Mr. Smith is a great teacher and tries to keep the topic interesting. He is always playing music when you walk in and sometimes he even takes requests. His tests are easy if you go to class and actually study for them.

Very nice. Gives you help before the test if you need it in SI sessions. Audio lectures online are great in case you miss something. Very funny and tries to keep you awake even with something as boring as Mitosis.

Mr.Smith is a wonderful teacher! He really loves Biology, which makes his lectures easier to listen to because he is full of energy. His tests can be a tricky, but if you take good notes, go to class, and attend the help session you should do fine!!

This is the best teacher in the Biology department at Clemson. He cares a tremendous amount about the success of students, female and male. Excellant at explaining things, always available for help. If you get the chance, take his classes.

One of my favorite professors thus far! He loves what he is teaching, and keeps a potentially boring class very interesting. His exams are challenging, but if you go to class and take notes, keep up with the study questions, and do the practice exams, it's very possible to do well.

This guy is a great teacher and there is a reason he got teacher of the year. Taking this my freshmen year, I was delighted with how friendly and helpful he was in understanding material. His tests are fair and those that study will do well. By far the best intro biology teacher at Clemson.

He gives you a study guide beforehand. I used this to study by and that's how I got my A. He's also interesting in class. I highly recommend him if your willing to put in about 15 hours of studying before a test.

C'mon you guys. Let's be totally honest. Yes, I agree that Dr. Smith is a great teacher. HOWEVER-with emphasis!- he is not easy. Please stop making him seem so damn "wonderfully easy." This class is very challenging and it's gonna take lots of studying ( hours,days,weeks) to only prepare for one test. Would I recommend Dr. Smith?- sure- but study!!

I liked him so much in 103 that I took him again for 104. He really strives to do what it takes for you to improve on tests, etc. He was always available after class for anyone to ask questions, etc. This is a difficult class, but if you put in the time along the way and don't kill yourself the night before, you'll do just fine.

Was awesome. Extremly helpful and still knows my name today 2 years after i took him. Makes the class easy to follow and is extremly friendly. Awesome guy, awesome teacher. Take him over any other freshman bio teachers.

I took Dr. Smith's class last fall and then I went to Carolina and took a Biology test. To put things nicely, you don't know what you got until you lose it. He is not that hard. I would give anything to have him back. I absolutely loved him.

This guy is so full of energy and I am hoping to get him next semester for Biology 104. Every morning of class, you walk in and he is blasting popular music that we teenagers listen to. Anyone would be lucky to have Dr. Smith as their Bio. professor!

Denny is "Awesome" and his class is "Toe Curling". I think he is the best teacher i have had and is always enthusiastic about teaching. Denny is the man!

I love this man! (ok, not really) He's a great teacher that keeps you paying attention in class. He gives you study guides and gives you many resources to find the answers. Before tests, he has study sessions (for 2 hours) and answers ANY questions and goes over any diagrams. His book is on-line. Plus, he plays music before class. ; )

He is a really cool teacher and he keeps me interested that early in the morning, even when I don't have my coffee.

Awesome teacher, Gives handouts and studyguides for every test. His tests are really hard but if you do all the study guides and handouts you will do really well on the test. He is also always available for help, even if you just stop by his office.

Wonderful professor. Really cares about his students. Plays music every morning, which really helps to wake you up. His practice test is similar to real test. Gives review sessions that are extremely helpful.

Dr. Smith is a great guy who really cares about his students. His personal enthusiasm in the subject made it easy for students tp pick up. He lets you know what is expected and gives you the tools to succeed. His may seem tough, but its not impossible.. he's willing to work with the students.

Dr. Smith was my favorite professor this semester. He's funny, he plays music to get you pumped up before class, he learns all 200 names in each lecture.. Take really good notes, write down everything he says even if you don't understand it right then, and you will be able to pull off at least a B. Really loves what he teaches.. get him for bio!

He is one of the funniest and nicest professors! He WILL learn your name no matter how big the class is! Lots of sex jokes! His tests are all multiple choice and he does his best to prepare you for them.

Dr. Smith is the man...Extremely friendly and happy guy who is always willing the help you out. As noted above.. he plays music before class (quality music) and learns almost all of the students' names. Difficult class.. but well worth taking just because of the professor.

He is really nice and fun. However, his test are hard. So, anyone who is taking this class be prepared to study alot. He is know for preparing people for med school.

Probably the best teacher I've had at Clemson. His tests are hard and you will have to work your ass off. But you will learn a lot and enjoy it while you are learning it. Take good notes and ask him for help.

I thought he was an AWESOME teacher. If you've ever taken another bio course at Clemson, believe me, you'll appreciate what this guy does for you: he gives you outlines, handouts, worksheets, and even a list of study questions for EVERY chapter you cover. Just answer the questions, stick with it, and if you have ANY questions, just ASK AWAY!!

Dr. Smith is by far the best teacher I have had at Clemson. However, his class is a killer. I am taking it for the second time now and I am working my tail off for a C. He is extremely likeable and he really does want you to do well. If you want an easy bio, take Surver, but otherwise, go with Smith.

His 4 tests require a good bit of studying, but he holds a review the night before that are extremely beneficial! I pulled a B, but learned a lot! Highly recommended if you want to get something out of the class

Dr. Smith is by far the best Bio professor on campus. He makes a point to not only get to know ever student personally, but he also wants every student to understand biology. Don't get me wrong, you have to study. But that's any biology course. I actually learned something instead of memorizing my way through it.

It depends on what you are looking for. If you are a Science major and really want to learn the material then take him. If you just need to the gen. ed requirement take someone else. His tests are VERY hard and tricky, but you will learn a lot.

So fun... this guy actually enjoys being in class and his subject.. dont find teachers like him very often... Tests are what to be expected; he gives you a detailed handout and even the diagrams. Take this professor if you actually want to have a class to look forward to.

Awesome Teacher, blast music in the room before class starts to get you relaxed! Tests are a little tricky but read before you go to class and study the material daily! Quizzes are given for extra credit and I recommend doing them b/c they can really boost your grade! Good Luck

Awesome guy and teacher. Greets everyone by name before class starts. Everyone says his tests are bad but come on....its freshman biology. If you pay attention in class and review the notes you dont even have to crack the book. He also gives up to 5 points on your OVERALL GRADE for taking online quizzes.

Denny is a really good teacher.. after you take his class you REALLY know Bio. If you don't have to have Bio and are just taking it, i'd recommend not taking him because you have to work really hard to study.. tests are pretty hard. Attendance not mandatory. GO TO REVIEW SESSIONS BEFORE TEST!! They will help soooo much.

P.S. Denny Smith and Alton Smith are the same guy on RateMyProfessor... Dr. Smith is hard, but a really good teacher.

He is a wonderful professor!!! Yes, the tests are hard (I studied night and day and only made a B) and tricky, but he makes sure that you know biology and not just memorize it! He even plays music at the beginning of class to get you pumped up!

Amazing teacher! His lectures are incredible, he really knows his stuff. His tests are hard and require a great deal of studying but take good notes and you should be good. He provides extra credit quizzes, an extra study lecture before each test, and gives out study questions. Be ready to study hard, but he is worth the extra time.

HE IS AN AWESOME PROFESSOR... ALTHOUGH HE IS TOUGH AND HIS TESTS REQUIRE EXTREME STUDYING TO DO WELL ON IT, HE IS A VERY GREAT TEACHER OVERALL. I MADE A C IN THE CLASS, COULD HAVE MADE AN A IF I HAD PUT MORE EFFORT INTO IT!

If you go to most classes, do his study questions and study them for the tests its hard not to make a B(all the information he tests on are in his study questions you just have to make sure you answer them right)

Dr. Smith is a great teacher. He's really passionate about biology and just has a great personality. Extremely funny and makes random sex jokes. You have to study for his tests in order to do well on them though, and since the only grades are the 4 test grades, it's necessary to do well on them. Overall, he's a good teacher!

Great professor!I really learned alot in this class. He is a very great prof if you go to class. Attendence is not mandatory but if you want to do well you have to go. You have to understand application versus memorization because his tests are tricky. I got a C in 103 and an A in 104. I would recommend him for anyone going into any related field.

This guy is the man! He makes a boring subject interesting. He is funny and friendly. He takes a genuine interest in his students and their grades. The class is hard and requires a lot of reading from the book, but if you go to class it helps a lot because he breaks everything down so it is easier to understand. Recommended over R. Garcia for sure.

Great teacher. Only take him though if you are willing to work. You NEED to read and go to class to be able to do well so if you're not willing to do that then do not take him because you will struggle the whole time. But I really enjoyed him, he made things fun to learn.

Although he may be more interesting than Garcia, his tests are MUCH harder and his extra credit is harder to obtain than Garcia's .... given the choice, choose Garcia

Yes his tests are detailed but as long as you read the book and do the study questions fully and understand them you will do fine. I have skipped quite a few classes and have done awesome on the tests. He's a great teacher and really enjoys getting to know his students. As long as you understand the basics of biology, you'll do fine.

Best teacher I have had to far. He is very entertaining while in class and tries to make everything as clear as possible. He often does analogies which help with memorizing the material. He offers extra credit quizzes, which even though some are extremely long, they can substantially help your grade. I enjoy going to biology because of this man.

This class is extremely hard if you are not a good test taker. The only grades for the class are the four tests you take which consist of the most detailed questions possible. Dr. Smith, however is a very nice man who really wants his students to do well.

He is by far the best teacher I've ever had. Gives a total of up to 5 pts of extra credit added to your final credit which is huge! He is a great help outside of class plus its good to know him well if you plan on going to med school (he'll be your adviser). Test are not as hard as people say. Just read book and make sure to do study questions!

He was a very good professor. He talks really fast, but he is more than willing to help if you go to office hours. Also, he rounds his grades up, which helps! All my other friends had different teachers, and they had such hard quizzes. He gives 4 tests, and even extra credit! Take him.

Going to class is not mandatory but it helps to go and listen. I recommend sitting in the front. Fast talker, read the material before class, really have to put in the hours. I would not take this class unless you are a science major or have taken AP Biology.
