I tried to give her a break since it's her first time teaching, but she is really terrible. She makes slides that are incorrect, then proceeds to just read them to the class. When we ask for clarification, she gets angry and argues. She groans if we ask to go back a slide, and she uploads them 10 mins before class starts. DON'T TAKE HER CLASS.
Professor does not like too many questions. Not very good at explaining. She just wants to get through the lecture. Read before and after lecture the book explains things better. Watch out for trick questions on the test.
Very tough professor. Lectures have the most basic examples, and on the test she gives the most difficult and trick ?'s. It seems as if she wants students to do poorly. There is homework everyday. You must read the book everyday (it explains things a lot better than professor), many pop-quizzes, and this is on top of homework/tests for lab.
It was Winter session, and it was her first time teaching. They really should have picked someone with more experience to do the job. Lectures were super boring and she'd just read slides and had many typos. Exams were difficult with hardly enough time to finish, and she even went over things that our lab teacher said were too advanced for Chem 60.
She does go over her slides really quickly, but you have the opportunity to download them. I recommend doing the homework(credit) since few of the test questions are from there. She also provides problem packets during workshop that serve as study guides for her exams. Her exams include both MC and free response. Overall, I enjoyed the class.
Go to class and be on time! (gives pop quizzes and quiz every lab), if you're late you don't get to take it), use the quizzes on the mastering chemistry website to study. Her tests are hard because a lot of the multiple choice questions are ambiguous or confusing and she doesn't explain equations like a math teacher would, just shows examples.
I took her in spring 16 and she's a great professor. She tries her best to help hee students. She doesn't change the slides until she makes sure everyone clearly understood.
RECOMMENDED. One of the best professors at pierce. People might complain about her being boring or not helpful, BUT TRUST ME. She is great :)
My sister and I both took her class. She's a great professor and explains everything very clearly. So far the best professor I ever had.
She is a sweet, kind, easy to talk to new professor. I really felt at ease with her. She is partially new to teaching, and just like any work -field, ALWAYS give a CHANCE to those who are new/just starting off. Put yourself in her shoes as a new professor, its quite intimidating. Will take her over and over again for any chem class.
She is new to teaching, however she is an excellent teacher. She is very friendly and is always available to help her students. The course itself is not difficult, you only need to study by the powerpoint slides. I didn't really use the book, except for the pearson code.
Alia Latif was an incredible professor. Her lectures and power points were clear and easy to understand. She truly cares about her students succeeding, was funny, fair, and gave me such a good basis for chem 101. Highly recommend Professor Latif!
Took her during winter class which is tough to begin with. But she made it easy for us, her lectures are concise and direct to the point. She gives practice exams, a lot of extra credit points, and pop quizzes which are btw just free points. Very hard worker teacher and fair grader. She cares about her students and want them to succeed
One of the best professors I've had as a student. And I say this holding a B.A and having taken graduate level courses. she knows the subject well and presents it in a clear and concise manner Do a majority of the problems at the end of the chapter and you'll be fine for the quizzes Study her notes read the book & do ch problems and you'll be fine
Pr Latif is awesome! Chem was my biggest challenge but Latif made it doable. Chem is a tough subject so she gives a generous curve and explains things thoroughly until she's sure you understand it. Go to class on time as she gives easy pop quizzes, quiz q's come right out the book, also allows exam corrections to make up missed points. Take her!
She is a great teacher. I just started college and she is by far my favorite professor so far. She uses PowerPoint for her lectures which you can also download and use to study. She is clear and to the point. The exams and quizzes reflect only what was taught in the class. There is tons of opportunity for extra credit. I would highly recommend her
latif is an amazing teacher. Took her during the summer and hopefully will take her again in the future. Highly recommend her!
Best Chem professor, wish I could take chem 101 with her.
She's a wonderful proffessor. Chemistry was the hardest subject for me, and she was able to make it very understandable. And in an 8 week corse. She's amazing.
Chem was my biggest obstacle of all the nursing prereqs and I'm so glad to have been fortunate enough to take it with Latif! She's great and really wants her students to do well. Exams are straight forward, quizzes are directly out of the book and hw was simple. Do the work, find a good study group and ask questions when confused and you'll do fine
Professor Latif is great! She's very friendly and approachable, which makes asking questions a lot easier. Not too much homework. Exams directly relate to lectures. She really prepares you for the next course. Because of her, chem 101 was a breeze. If the opportunity comes, I will definitely take her again.
I took the five-week winter chem 60, and she was very understanding and helpful in such a difficult class. Explained the material very well, and the tests were not easy (they're not supposed to be), but easy to study for. Definitely recommend this professor.
She is easy and caring. If you dont understand something just ask her and she will go over the concept again. Her lecture slides are very helpful. Take her chem class, you wont regret it.
If you didnt understand chemistry in high school, this is your chance to understand it better. Clear and amazing lectures, tons of extra credit (quizzes & test corrections). Her office hours are useful if you want to improve your grade. Took her in the 5-week winter session, it was tough but worth the learning! Take her!!!
Really knows what she is talking about and I would 10/10 recommend
I am taking Chem. 101 with her and she is just amazing.
Trust me she is the BEST. if you want to actually learn something in chemistry take her, she teaches great and makes sure everyone learns, there are tests that are hard but she makes you ready for them and if you read her notes and do example questions they will definitely help. I took her in winter and it was super fast but I learned a LOT.
Best chem professor I have ever had, very fair grader. Although the exams are tough they are fair if you study the notes and read the book. Very chill professor but get ready to learn, I wish I had her for chem 102. The final exam reflects the class exams, gives extra credit.
Professor Latif made Chem 60 in a summer session very doable. She held office hours every day and regularly stayed past her time limit to provide extra help. She grades very meticulously so you must pay close attention to details (setup/units/etc), but she also provides lots of extra credit which was a big help.
Professor Latif is the best. I took her Chem 60 class during the summer session and I loved it. She makes sure everyone understands the lecture and she is willing to help the students during her office hours. Her powerpoint lectures are great and she offers tons of extra credits. Take her, you won't regret it.
Latif is the best. She takes her time explaining stuff. You will get an A, as long as you study from her lecture notes.
The best teacher I have ever had. Pay attention to lectures and be sure to complete all the homeworks. Quizzes and tests were easy as long as you review the book and her lectures. So caring and passionate and always helps if you ever need it. If you want to learn TAKE HER!!!
1/2 She made me fall in love with chem. I truly looked forward going to class and lab. Her lectures are straightforward and easy to retain. She includes several examples of free-response questions in lecture. Tests mimic lecture examples so ask questions if you dont understand something. Shes the queen of extra credit so attend lectures!
2/2 Its impossible to fail this class. She is extremely nice with partial credit. Exceptional teacher who makes you feel prepared for the next sequence of chemistry
Hand down best chemistry professor for chem 101 . She is very nice and takes her time explaining stuff . Take her
Took her for chem 60 and now taking her for chem 101, shes absolutely the best, all her lectures are on powerpoint and she gives practice exams and tons of extra credit.
Her lectors are very straight forward and build upon one another. So if you're the kind that flakes on a few days BEWARE, miss one day and every problem from that point on will be difficult to grasp. She also welcomes questions and can also make hilarious remarks like "If you have jerk cat-like, I do, gravity helps him knock over everything"
There's lots of extra credit and tests are pretty straightforward. Multiple choice section of the test are concept/definition based. I dropped this class with Waugh last semester and took Latif over summer and it was the best decision because she is so amazing!! Don't skip lecture and do all the extra credit! I definitely recommend her!
She is quintessential because she loves her job I received a C, almost a B, and that's because I had Bio3 at the same time and my appendix got in the way Overall, a super performance I acquired the value of dimensional analysis, take this class it will help you tame other classes. She brings math & chemical properties together like no other. Best!
Overall, a decent teacher. She kind and does cares about students but seems to be bothered when a student does things the way the textbook teaches. She has the mentality of, "my way or the highway" and if you ask her why she claims that it will help you avoid errors when in fact her way only creates more errors. She gives a lot of ec. Easy A.
She is amazing and you will learn most things is required for chem 101.
Prof Latif is probably one the best professors you can get for Chem 101; had her for Chem 60 and she is as good as you can get. She has a certain process in which she wants her problems being done, but they're pretty straight forward and will help you understand the material. Offers lots of extra credit and allows you to correct your tests for EC!
Her lectures are clear, and she cares about her students. A lot of online homework but it helps for the tests/finals.
Latif is the best I grasped everything she taught so easily & its not because im a fast learner, she just organizes things so perfectly & makes everything so easy to understand. lets you correct your tests but with her teaching you'll be doing so well you won't even have to worry. Chem 60 is pretty easy but I bet she'd be just as great in chem 101!
Professor Latif really cares about her students and wants to make sure everyone is doing well and is comfortable. Her lectures were easy to understand and she was easy to reach via email with any questions. She transitioned to online classes smoothly and I honestly recommend her for anyone who is looking to actually learn something in chem.
She is the BEST!!!! The perfect teacher and will do one on one tutoring with you if needed! I came to her when I was super worried about my grade and she went through everything with me!!! You will have to work and study for this class but honestly its just like any other class. I probably could had gotten a B if I didnt slack of for three weeks.
Professor Latif is awesome. The way that she teaches is very straight-forward and easy to understand. 3 exams, 1 final, weekly worksheets. Her office hours were very helpful (go to them!). Take her!!!
professor Latif is one of the best professors out there. She explains everything in detail and makes you fall in love with the materials. I can't thank her enough because before taking the chem course with her I took it with professor waugh and chem was a nightmare for me but after this summer with professor latif I felt in love chemistry.
Best Chem Professor, easy A ^_^ Love her.
I honestly doubt I would've passed chemistry with any other professor at pierce. The way she sets up the class is very organized and she offers extra credit too. You still have to put in the work though, but she helps make the journey bearable and passable! Chem includes math(my weakest subject) and I managed to do way better than I expected!
Don't know who wrote these other reviews but don't listen to them!!! This class is hell, I am a straight A student and biology major yet I have never seen anything like this before. She even proctores her weekly quizzes which just adds onto the stress. TOUGH GRADER, watch out for your sig figs because one mistake and your grade will plummet.
She was a very good teacher and lectured well, but sometimes the lectures felt like they dragged on, but she is a very good choice for a teacher. She offers alot of resources on her canvas for help and help on the labs. I did wish she was more accessible because she didn't respond to emails alot and only had office hours on the days of our classes.
Be prepared to work a lot for this class. She is very amazing. Her lectures are long but she takes time to answer any questions without making you feel bad. She recorded her lectures on zoom and left them for students to go back to study which helped so much.
She is an amazing chem professor! Everything she taught was very clear despite some of the topics being difficult. Her office hours were super helpful and she was always so kind and willing to answer any and all questions. I would 100% recommend her.
This is one of the best chem teachers I have ever had. She goes very in-depth in every topic and is able to answer any question you throw at her. Easy class due to teaching style. Lecture-heavy and has some hard questions on tests, however, they are manageable if you put in a little effort. Amazing teacher I recommend you chose her 100%.
A true gem of a professor who makes difficult concepts digestible, yet not oversimplified. She's funny and caring, and there's a good chance that you'll fall in love with chemistry by the end of the semester. Tests are only always based on the lectures, so take good notes! 1000% would recommend to anyone who struggled with chem in the past.
An extremely compassionate and caring Professor that never failed to provide amazing feedback for complicated Chem material. By far one of the most amazing STEM professors you can possibly have.
Professor Latif is by far the absolute best professor I've ever had. She is extremely sweet and caring. She truly cares about her students and whether or not they understand the material. She sits with you during her office hours until you understand what you're learning. She made chemistry incredibly fun and enjoyable.
I took her for both 60 and 101 and she was an amazing prof for both. Tests are kind of difficult but 101 is the hardest chem course anyway. She's sweet and cares about her students. Offers extra credit 2-3 times. She's one of the best chem profs, if she taught 102 I would take her. Doesn't really grade until the end of the semester though
Great Chem 101 teacher. She has no problem answering questions and always asks if anyone has a question throughout the lecture. She offers an extra credit question on all her exams, as well as a few towards the end of the semester. Do the Aleks homework, go to lecture/workshop, and do well in lab and I'm sure you can get an A.
Prof Latif is the most amazing teacher I have ever had. She's a very sweet and compassionate teacher who truly cares about her students. If you don't understand any of the material, she will sit with you during her office hours and explain it to you until you get and will never make you feel bad about it. She made me develop a love for chem.
Professor Latin is a great professor. I took her for chem 101 and I learned a lot from her. If you pay attention and listen to her lectures you will do good. She does take a long time to grade everything but overall she's amazing.
Literally the sweetest human, she's so understanding. This class is easy to get an A in if you just study the slides before every exam. That's what I did and I finished with a 96%. She doesn't do trick questions and isn't extra, breaks down everything and makes chem much easier than many other teachers would.
She is a wonderful professor. She cares about her students and wants everyone to learn. Her lectures are long and if you're like me, it is not always easy to pay attention the entire time, but if you pay attention she makes chemistry very understandable. She is always open to answering questions and is able to give good feedback and help if you ask
I absolutely loved her. I have a very hard time with chem and she made the classroom a very comfortable environment. She never makes you feel bad for asking questions and will typically offer exam corrections. Chem is a difficult topic, but she really made an effort to be extremely clear and have neat hand writing. Highly recommend!
No professor cares about their students as much as she does. She always asks, 'any questions?" flawlessly. If you do bad in her class, it's completely your fault. She's also very kind and often cracks some jokes in her lectures. You'll love her if you like Disney.
I love Latif! She is so sweet and genuinely cares, and her lectures revolutionized how I take notes. She is extremely organized, intelligent, and good at what she does. Her workshops often let out early when she didn't use the time to lecture as she gave us worksheets that were immensely helpful in clarifying and implementing what we just learned.
I have not had the privilege of taking a course with her. However, she will walk by here and there and my peers and I would ask for help. She has always been so helpful. I think professors should also be rated on how they interact with the student population. Some of the professors in STEM at Pierce have their HEADS too big to care enough.
Can't express how awesome a professor Latif is. Took her summer chem 060 course and it was so simple and straight forward. It didn't feel cramped at all. Her A starts at 88% and she gives tons of extra credit. She's always very considerate and helpful. Keeps a professional tone when she needs to and laid back otherwise. Can't ask for much more.
Professor Latiff was an amazing professor. I took her class in-person over the summer before my first year at Pierce and I fell in love with chemistry again because of her. Lectures help with tests and quizzes. If you ask her questions during the lecture, Professor Latif will go out of her way to further explain and help you understand a topic.
professor Latif was one the best professors with easy access to lectures and videos of the lectures that she has recorded lectures which helped a lot if I didn't understand/catch on when in a lecture she explained everything step by step won't make you feel bad about it. take advantage of practice exams, workshop questions, and extra credit.
Professor Latif was a wonderful professor! She finally made me understand topics that I struggled with in high school and she was really understanding about the workshops! You're mostly graded by workshops, quizzes, exams, ALEKS, and lab. I can't wait to take her in the future!
I had Prof Latif for chem60 & now again for chem102, my opinion of her has not changed. She is an AMAZING professor. She makes sure that you understand what you're learning. Office hours are the best with her because she never makes you feel dumb about anything, even if your questions are dumb! She is one of the BEST professors I've ever had!!!!!!!
Had her for 101 and 102, excellent teacher. Provides multiple opportunities to succeed. The class was well balanced, lectures were coherent, and exams were a reflection of powerpoints, practice exams, and workshop worksheets. Slightly slow grader but she was teaching many classes this semester. She is patient and always open for questions.
I took Professor Latif for chem 101 and chem 102. She was nice but if I am being honest, I pretty much taught myself the entire two years. Office hours are so short and many people needed help that she wouldn't get to you most of the time. Yes, I got an A, but not because of her. Thank god for the organic chemistry tutor on youtube.
I have taken Professor Latif for Chem 101 the semster prior to the one I took Chem 102. When I took her for Chem 101 she was nice and actually cared to help her students when they had a question. However, when taking her for Chem 102 there would be times I would ask her a question and she would respond in such a passive absuvie tone, very rude.
The best professor I've taken at Pierce. She is so sweet and understanding, will answer all your questions and loves when you attend office hours/participate. Tests/quizzes are very easy if you study the practice exams and go through notes and practice problems from lecture. Allows late work for full cred and offers extra credit. I loved her class.
Professor Latif is amazing! I failed chemistry in high school and with her help I was able to obtain an A this semester. You do have to study!! This is not a course where you can get away with the bare minimum, but having her as a professor made it so much better. Attend workshop, office hours, and complete your ALEKS then you should be good.
Such a sweetheart!
Chemistry was tough as it, is she made it more difficult. The class slides did not help as much. The workshop period was spent trying to find correct answers. She does not show how to complete worksheets or problems. Her office hours are always so packed. She assigns so much work that you have little time to spend actually studying the material.
Do yourself a favor and take her class!!
Great teacher and encourages students to ask questions. Lots of hwk, such as aleks, workshop worksheets, prelabs and post lab reports. She creates practice tests that are really similar to the exams so make sure to study those alongside aleks. Labs were fun and interesting, and she made sure to clarify things students did not understand.
Professor Latif is THE BEST professor at Pierce. She cares that her students understand her lectures. She'll sit with you during office hours & make sure that you understand everything. Don't listen to the bad reviews, her exams/quizzes are light work & have lots of extra credit. She gives partial credit even if you write random gibberish.
Professor Latif is amazing! She made learning chem 102 easy, and she is very helpful for labs too! Definitely keep up with her lecture material week by week. There is a lot of assignments due like pre-labs, post-labs, aleks, and workshop sheets. Her practice exams are very useful as they are the same format for her actual exam. Put in the work!!
Prof Latif is a very knowledgable and caring professor. While she might be busy due to her work load, she really wants the best for you, and shows it by giving extra credit, generous grading scale, and extensions. Go to her office hours when you have any questions and she will be more than happy to answer. If you have the chance to take her, do it!
Professor Latif was one of the sweetest, most understanding, and caring professors you will ever have. Her quizzes are accurate for the workshop packets but unfortunately she does not grade every often so it's hard to know what your grade is in the class. She's very helpful and her practice exams are similar to her actual exams but MUCH easier.
Prof. Latif really does try to help her students. Rushed through lectures sometimes, and the planning of the class got messed up in the middle of the semester. We would do the workshop after we had been quizzed. Takes a while to post lecture slides and practice exams. Very generous partial credit on exams.
I took this course last year. I am so grateful to be able to take it with professor Latif. She is honestly a great professor and very easy to approach. Please go to OFFICE HOURS before exam, she basically carries you step by step on the process. She also accepted my late work due to medical issues. Just do and turn in work. Lecture is on slides.
Really great Professor. She gives lots of partial credit on the tests, so don't be afraid to answer a question even tho yk it's wrong, she'll still give credit. Go to every lecture, if you miss one you'll be behind. 3 exams for the semester, 2 quizzes between each exam. Gives lots of time to complete Aleks & workshop. Ask questions she'll clarify.
Amazing lectures with Professor Latif always asking if anyone has questions. Homework (ALEKS) was very manageable and didn't even hurt your grade if you missed a few. Quizzes are short and easy based off what you learned the previous lecture and exams were based off 3 chapters. Some things are provided on the exam and but aren't hard if you study.
Prof. Latif really cares about her students and will help you as much as she possibly can, mind you the class is difficult and with that she knows it is difficult so she has a much more lenient grading criteria. that does not mean you can slack off as the material is very difficult. so attending lectures and workshop is a must. AMAZING PROF
Amazing professor, took chem 101 w/ her spring 25. She is so helpful during workshop, she is really detailed and engaging during lecture. This is not an easy class, but as long as you put the work in and do all your assignemnts on time, youll be ok. ALEKS is rlly helpful, though very annoying. Final is cumulative but doable, allows a cheat sheet.
