He's the funniest professor I've had in college so far! Also he doesn't require you to buy the text book for his class but if you're more of a slow paced learner I do recommend buying the text book to look over the things you didn't understand in class. Mr. Alon is very committed to his students success and provides you with a lot of extra credit :)
Very good professor. Works at your speed. Lots of extra credit!
Prof. Alon gives you plenty of extra credit. He is very passionate about music and wants students lo learn and have fun. He also has a good sense of humor and makes class fun and interesting. His exams are clear and he even hands you a review along with a review session. I had fun in his class and learned many stuff about music.
HE'S A FUN PROFESSOR WITH DETAILED INSTRUCTIONS.
he teaches enthuastically.he loves teaching.he is trying to give a lot of chances to have good grades.I learned many new music knowledges from him.he is a great instructor.
The teacher is very nice and easy, but the material in the class is a bit difficult. It may be BC I have never used a instrument.
He has got so much energy and love for what he does that you can't help but learn something in his class. I really enjoyed his class and hope to take another.
Really passionate about music! seems to love what he does, and that makes learning about music for me much much easier! Learned much more than i thought i would! great class to take if you already have a basic knowledge of music!
Great teacher. You definitely learn a lot. Very useful class for any musician/singer to take. Very enjoyable.
He has great knowledge about the subject and tries his best to help us to understand the subject and to pay individual attention to everyone in the class. He treats students equally and fairly with lots of patience. His handout materials are very useful, better than the textbook. Great instructor!
Pretty awesome teacher, though I don't recommend the 3 hour class. He knows a lot about music and is always willing to help his students. The type of teacher you see in Freedom Writers or something.
great teacher. Really knows his stuff. Lots of fun and helpful
Great class learned alot!!! The only problem is that it three hours long but when your in the class time flies so it all good.
Music knowledge prior to this class would be helpful
Professor Alon is forgiven, nice, and easy to get along with. He gives you chances to help motivate you to do better. I enjoy the class very much although I am a very slow learner. I am pleased with the teacher so my big advice on Piano is to practice at home as often as possible. I would say Pro. Alon is a good choice.
He is such a great teacher. He is very helpful and friendly. Strongly recommend to whoever want to take Music class
Great teacher. Loves music and it shows in his teaching. Very patient with all students as well. Mild mannered, layed back, yet sarcastic which is fun! Must attend class for good grade! H
Great teacher. Very passionate about music and his work. He is also very helpful and is willing to setup meetings after class for extra help.
Overall he is a pretty good instructor. Work is easy to do just need more time with piano pieces.
I loved this class. I failed the first Music class I took, but Dr. Alon is wonderful and super helpful. He is very passionate about music, and it shows. His enthusiasm rubs off on the class. He gives lots of extra credit, and really wants you to make a good grade. I hope to have another class with him, he was lots of fun, great sense of humor. Thx!
Good professor. Very helpful. Class is harder than expected.
he is very helpful and it's not an hard class. I enjoyed his class a lot, great semester. He is an Awesome Prof.
He was a very interesting teacher very informed and keep the class intersting
Great teacher! Really helpful with grades and extra credit. You learn the basics of music and it's fun! Attendance is a must!
Good Class.
I really enjoyed taking this piano class with Pro. Alon. At first, I was skeptical about taking a piano class because it had been several years since playing on one. I thought that the material would be extremely hard, but pro.alon makes it seem simple and fun. I just advise practice away from class or you'll forget the material.
It is a very easy, enjoyable class. He knows what he is talking about so listen and take notes. If you do, you can easily pass the class.
He is a nice guy who knows what he is talking about. He is clear and concise, and passing his class is easy as long as you show up.
He is a really easy going guy & is ready to help whenever you need it. He is dedicated to his work.
It was easy to understand what he was teaching and made it interesting.
He's got more degrees than a thermometer, so ask away he knows his stuff. If he doesn't know he spends time to figure it out, it made class an adventure. Also he is pretty lenient on attendance so if you have to miss you don't kill your grade entirely. Oh and he likes you to support the arts so go to a concert and you can get extra credit.
Really laid back. He knows his stuff, so if you have questions don't be afraid to ask. He will even see you by appointment if you need extra help.
He's easy to understand and aproachable which encourages students.
Great teacher...he makes music for starters very fun!!!
he was really funny and he helped alot when we needed it.!
Fun and interesting class. You will definitely learn a lot about how music works and collaborates together. Professor Alon made the class easy and helped when students were lost.
great teacher. i learned alot, extremely helpful and funny. i highly reccomend him
Love love love this class. It was brutal but fair. Of course the level was set where the student set it so brutal was what i wanted.
Mr. Alon is an exceptional teacher who cares about every student who walks into his room. If you ever require hands on assistance, dont hesitate to ask as he will make time to help you.
Great teacher. If you're interested in music definitely take his classes. If you are just interested in getting credit, still take his class because it's very easy.
you definitely should take his class. He is very nice and helpful. He cares about everyone in his class. And it's pretty fun in his class though. I was really enjoy taking his class.
Awesome very helpful. Keeps the class interested even if music is not part of your major. Looking for an art class to get over with yet at the same time learn something fun and new, this is the class to be in.
It makes a difference if you have a professor who is approachable and helpful in a busy semester. Professor Alon likes to help everyone who has questions regarding his class. He seems to enjoy what he is doing. This class has a lot of technical information. Attendance and participation in class is a high portion of your grade.
Very good teacher. Loves what he's teaching. If you're taking his class for an elective or for your major, he's great for both. If you ever have trouble with anything, he'll definitely help you out if you ask him to help you with your grade. I learned a lot in this class even though I hate music! Awesome/funny professor!
He's a great professor. Super helpful and funny.
He is an awesome teacher who enjoys what he does! He is an accomplished lyricist and he helped me learn so much about writing music
Writing music is more than just words.
He is AWESOME.
Very knowledgeable, helpful and organized.
Aaron is a wonderful professor, I highly recommend this class to anyone who is looking to further their musical ability. great for any level of ability.
This class was great, I found it interesting and I think I do want to continue the class, I never really understood the notes in the music but thanks to this class I do understand it more.
He was very helpful in everything and will help you if you just ask. I believe my Final grade would have been much better if I'd only ask for help. You can really tell he is passionate abiut what he does. Totally recomended!!
He is great professor very understanding and I'm enjoying his summer 2 class it been fast but if you before class you will be find he goes with book. His quizes are easy but you most have a book. I highly recommend his to anybody to take him he is really nice and understanding he also gives extra credit. :)
Very helpful!!!
He is very helpful! You can tell he loves what he is doing; very compassionate about music. This class is easy but you learn a lot and it's very interesting! :) I recommend his class to everyone!
Professor Alon has definitely made the time go by fast! He is very nice and willing to help any student. You can tell he loves what he is teaching and that is always nice as student.
GREAT TEACHER! Isn't afraid to help and answer questions. Teaches material very well as he makes it as entertaining as possible. Doesn't hand out grades but his awesome teaching appears to. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
He is very knowledgeable and uses several examples during his lectures. I enjoyed his class and I would recommend it to anyone.
Great Professor!Well prepared.
He is really a professor who loves music. His interest in this subject motivates me. As time goes by, I like music more and more. If I need to take another course in this field, I would like him to be my professor again.
He is a very kind teacher who loves what he does. I went in with no knowledge of music at all and now I can read music and play piano. I didn't even need the book. If you have even the slightest interest in music or just want an easy credit, take his class!!
Good Class for beginners and if you are advanced.
Prof. Alon is a very understandable and relatable professor to work with. He breaks down all notes and rhythms with their very own special meaning, I find his class very intriguing and etc.
Take good notes = A+
he is a really good teacher. I came into the course not knowing how to play any instrument, much less even be able to read a note on a piece of paper. he is so helpful and will break stuff down for you if you do not get it. I highly recommend this teacher, he loves music and definitely knows what he is doing.
Take good notes and study them thoroughly before every quiz and final exam.
The Teacher is very insightful in music. He has the ability to make the class fun even for the people who has no clue about the piano (myself). I'm glad that I took this teacher and I'm sure you will be too. Good luck and enjoy.
Best Teacher ever! If you have no clue in music he will help you all you have to do is ask. Pay attention in class, show up to class, ask questions, and study are the main things you have to do in order to get an A+!!
It's a fun and interesting class. He is easy to get along with and explains things well.
Interesting class. If music is not your thing it might be a bit hard. He offers extra credits though.
Great teacher, highly recomend.
a wonderful,helpful music teacher.
this guy is a good understanding prof. that understands the principles of songwriting as well as what sounds good and what to listen for
Good job
He is a great teacher, he actually takes the time out to explain things so you can understand. I enjoyed his class because he was so passionate. I have never played an instrument ever and i learned how read music and play the piano. The class is very much worth taking.
cool teacher, explain everything you do not understand i really recommend this teacherfor any class
so far he was cool techer
he was a cool teacher
Best Music Theory teacher I've ever had! This is the first time I can say I actually understand and enjoy learning. He takes the time to make sure everyone fully grasps each topic before moving on. He's passionate about his students improving there skills and is always willing to help. I highly recommend Dr. Alon!
He is a good teach. very funny and friendly. In his class, i don't feel like he is my teacher, but I always feel like he is my friend, so it help me feel more comfortable to study in his class.
Passionate teacher with an extensive background in modern recording techniques. Always available and willing to help out. Highly recommend
The teacher is sometimes prepared, but not always. He does tell us what we will be doing in the class, and what we are going to learn. He also gives us websites that are part of the class assignment/exam.
I really enjoyed learning with him ! I even gained interest in the subject and made me learn outside of the course. You just gotta make sure to pay attention in class :D
He is like the best teacher you can have! He helps you prepare for your piano performance and is fun to get along with. He's also an amazing guy too!~
Professor Alon was one of the best teachers I have had. He was ver interested in seeing us all succeed in his class.
He is one of the better professors that I have met in a long time. He cares about the success of the students in his class and is proactive with regards to their learning.
Take this class! you won't regret! I am really enjoying this class and if you not miss any assignment, you will get easy A!

In really liked him! He seemed to actually show concerned for the students who wanted to know more about music.
Super Nice and very helpful if you dont understand just set up a time with him after class and he will make learing super easy you will be like OOOOO
He is very good at presenting information in as many ways as possible so you can find a way that makes sense for you personally.
GREAT. YES. I LOVE ALON.
Great class, ENjoyed the subject matter.
This teacher is by far the best teacher I've ever had because he was clear and knowledgable about ever topic he taught on. I've been in college for two ¥ears and he is the best!!! Everybody got an A in the class. And he wings every test, which we only had 1 test and a final. 60% of the class is participation.
Easy class as long as you participate, follow along, and do the work it is easy. I don't know how you could fail it. Recommend this professor to anyone.
Class worth taking. Was fun and learned what was stated in the curriculum
Extremly helpful, super nice professor!
took theory 1 and it was awesome hes awesome and a mad genius!
Very helpful, and nice. Always encouraging to have students participate. Very knowledgeable about music!
Great guy. He will not hesitate to help students learn material; if you need help, ask him and he will help. Hes very clear with what he explains and he will take time on certain subjects if the class needs it. Also fun class, hes a very down to earth guy and it's very hard to fail.
great class, fun instructor, study is mandatory.
He's the best music theory I've encountered so far..Im signing up for his next class!
Definitely helped me figure out my major or my goal for life! Very Helpful class! I'd take it again in a heartbeat.
Very very helpful answered all questions in class and answers outside of class. really nice i actually feel like he could be meaner.
Easy class long as you pay attention, something I didn't do much of. But still managed to keep up with things. He's very helpful, he teaches this class very well and passes a great amount of his knowledge of music off to you as much as he can throughout the course. I RATE IT EXCELLENT.
PERFECT PERSON TO TEACH THIS CLASS
This professor is an extremely knowledgeable professor that is highly passionate about music. He is extremely helpful and is very precise and detailed with his expectations of the students. He keeps the class motivated, challenged, and engaged in each lesson. I highly recommend this professor to any student that wants to learn the origins of music.
Very fun class to be in is a challenge but is a good teacher for this class
Very funny! Good at communicating information that may be harder to understand! Relates information in ways we can all understand!
Very nice teacher. Quizzes are fairly easy if you listen in class. According to him the quizzes will be really helpful with the final exam so never throw them away. Up to 10% of extra credit :) It can be a little boring.
Definitely knows exactly what he's teaching. Makes me feel prepared for the next course or to transfer. Explains everything in multiple ways, and almost always understands our difficult-to-understand questions in class.
Great guy, very helpful, very knowledgeable.
great teacher very helpful and make the dream of music not so much of a dream and will even take time to help you write and read and strengthen youre voice
He's pretty good at what he does and helps me learn things really well.
Its a good class if youre wanting to learn different rhyme schemes learn other wat=ys to write music like for vocals to piano.
One of the greatest music professors ever! Aaron is attentive to your needs and patient. He is talented and shares his knowledge to better you as a student. Take this class if you actually want to learn about music and not just talk about it. I came in knowing nothing to seeing music in a totally different light.
Mr. Alon's Popular Songwriting class allowed me to enjoy something I liked all of my life. Mr. Alon is a very positive and extremely bright instructor, who made the class learning environment very encouraging for students, who want to express themselves through music.
A great professor who is passionate about what he teaches. I learned a lot in his class and will definitely take some of his others. He is very clear and explains things very well. He is willing to work with his students and help in any way possible.
He's awesome!
Very good teacher!!! He's very knowledgeable and creative. I love whenever he plays the piano to give examples. He definitely knows what hes doing!!
My passion for music most of my opinion and comments would be bias for this course. As a students opinion Aron's great, things that would be difficult to understand even with the music theory involved are made clear and are broken down to very basic means. Where as if this class is just part of your major, you'll understand what he teaches.
He's really passionate with music and opera. Take notes in his class! Helps you on his quizzes, even though he goes through his quizzes the day before it. I think the hardest thing that happened in that class is that the quizzes have a "drop that record" and we figure out what era it's from. Other than that, he's chill and easy. Great professor!
A really laid back professor. Knows a lot about the music he is teaching. Gives a lot of extra credit opportunities. Open to student suggestions.
TAKE HIM! Half you grade is attendance. He gives you GREAT reviews for all the quizzes. The final is exam is questions from the quizzes (which he lets you keep). There are lots of simple extra credit opportunities avaliable. He is a super nice guy and the class is a very easy A.
I highly recommend. I just needed an art credit and although I have no interest in music history, this class has been a great choice. He is super laid back and easy. Just need to show up and take notes. He reviews all the quizzes with the class and practially gives all the answers. Do take for an easy A.
I highly reccomend taking him. He is laid back and funny, yet a very passionate professor who knows what he is teaching. I had and still have no interest in this music class, but it was definitely a great choice for an art credit. Take for an easy A.
He is very nice and helpful. His quizzes are very easy. He reviewed the quizzes before taking it.
Dr. Alon is a great professor!! His class atmosphere is very relaxed and entertaining during his lectures. He makes the information interesting even when the material gets dry. The book is good if you desire to follow up on his lecture. You will do well on tests as long as you attend class and participate every once in a while.
Professor is really cool u just have to pay attention in class and u will have really good grades
would take his class again seriously take his class
I knew nothing about music before I came and now I can read music! It is quite amazing!
Awesome class. Learned a lot about music fundamentals and how to use different software programs such as pro tools. Editing and mixing tracks was interesting. Cool and laid back teacher but make sure you come to class, big chunk of your grade depends on that.
Great class for learning the basics about mics and audio engineering. Each student has own there station and school has up to date audio software!
Teacher is very helpful. Any questions you have he will answer. Assignments/projects given consist of research that will help understand and learn more about the material and software.
Super nice and cool teacher. He really knows his stuff, and he always makes sure that we don't get lost. I would recommend him to anyone, whether you're a music major or not. He makes the class interesting and cool.
Prof. Alon is a fun and interesting professor. He's pretty quick-witted, and if you have the abillity to keep up with him, it makes his classes su much better!
Very nice proffesor. always engaging with the class. Loves what he does and passionate. Make sure to study hist notes becuase everything he says are on quizzes which are like 4 the whole semester. NO HOMEWORk, NO TEXBOOK but come to class and pay attention. over all easy class.
Very nice proffesor. always engaging with the class. Loves what he does and passionate. Make sure to study his notes becuase everything he says are on quizzes which are like 4 the whole semester. NO HOMEWORk, NO TEXBOOK but come to class and pay attention. over all easy class.
Very knowledgeable professor. He is interested and patient with his students. Teaches you to read music easily! Truly one of the absolute best professors I have ever had.
Super awesome dude with incredible knowledge of a vast array of subjects! More than willing to make accommodations for students to help them finish class assignments or to do some more in-depth instruction. Definitely would take another course that he is teaching!
Very cool, patient teacher.
Awesome Professor!! I am pretty much musically inclined, and now I feel like I could actually take the time to learn more about music. If you want a great music Professor, take this man!
Great professor, super easy and makes you have a better understanding of music.
aaron is very helpful and knowledgeable about music. he is a very easy tacher to connect with and understand. i enjoyed taking his class. even with a musical background, he still taught me things that i never knew about music. the textbook is not necessary for this class since he gives you so much info! take him! you will not regret it! :)
Very helpful and is commited to his studnets understanding the material.
Great professor, is always willing to help his students with anything they need. He does a great job in working with the students for due dates and projects and makes sure everyone does what they are capable of to the best of their ability.
Awesome teacher !
He is an Amazing teacher, i would recommend him to anyone.Make sure you listen in class and take notes, especially on his review days.

Good class. The teacher is very helpful and informative.

This is one of the best instructors in the Lonestar system. He is very knowledgeble in the subject, loves the subject and it shows in his teaching. Music is his life. You will leave this class with a greater understandin of music. Very passionate about music.

Prof. Alon is a pretty good teacher. Easy quizzes. You don't have to buy the book. And the majority of your grade is showing up. So show up to class listen and get an easy A.
He is a wonderful teacher. Take him :)
He's a good musician!
Extremely easy and helpful. As long as you show up, pay attention, and ask questions where needed, you should get a good grade.
I enjoyed coming to class every day.
Great professor! He is passionate about the material and willing to assist students.
Probably the easiest class I have ever taken
He's really helpful and will make sure you understand the material.
Extremely knowledgeable & passionate about what he does. Easy going & cares about your education. Always asking if anybody needs help & caters to every individual accordingly. A great teacher.
Professor needs to slow down just a bit. To fully understand.
Prof. Alon seems knows what he is talking about and, works with students that have the will to commit to learning and provides amusing anecdotes to keep people engaged with a smile. In case you didn't guess already, I enjoyed the class. Go for it.
Teacher well versed in all aspects of music, and is polite and respectful. Fast paced class but not diffucult to retain information if you at least cram the night before. In my opinion easy A if you at least put forth some effort and show up since 40% of your grade is attendance and participation.
Very funny and helpful teacher! Dont miss class or it will get harder to catch up.But if you do have to miss class, hes available after class to help you with the material learned. Loved his class!
Very helpful teacher. He explains the material to wear it's very easy to understand. I am not musically inclined but I have a much better understanding and appreciation for music as a whole.
Interesting. Easy.
Overall very good professor Explains everything well. Does very good quiz reviews. Sort of talks way to much sometimes though. The only thing that bothers me is when he plays music for us to listen to, he plays it way to loud and it hurts my ears. Other than that good professor.
Very helpful and thorough with presentations. Excellent quiz reviews. Will look for more of his classes as I progress.
He is a great teacher who cares about his students. He makes sure that everyone understands the material and the quizzes are hard, but as long as you STUDY they are easy.
excellent teacher
Very helpful. Class is easy to understand. Just study and you do fine in his class
Interesting
Overall great professor
Great class and Dr Alon is awesome.
He's really helpful & gives great reviews before a test! This class was definitely one that I enjoyed. I actually recommended it to many of my friends.
extremely clear and witty. he makes class easier and fun.
As long as you go to class you will be fine. Dr. Alon is more than happy to help outside of class. After 3 absences he begins taking points off of your grade. I understand this, but he is often late himself. The class is much more fun and interesting than I thought it would be and I highly recommend him.
Great class ever
excellent teacher!! Wants you to do well. I learned a lot and had no prior music experience.
Great class if you try
Overall excellent professor Explains everything well. Does very good quiz reviews
Very smart. He has great sense of all kinds of music and he is willing to work with you as long as you try
awesome
great professor. Very helpful and passionate
Great teacher. Fun class we didn't use the text book much which was good cause I'm broke. He made everything easy to understand despite the fact that it was theory. I recommend taking his classes.
Great class and superb teacher! If you don't have any prior music or keyboard experience it might seemed like a fast paced course. The final project is to play a few measures of a song from a fake book. But he helps you in any way to succeed so it's not impossible! Did not need the text book.
great class
He is very helpful and gives lots of credit. He also gives you alot of chances bring your grade up and pass. He is a great professor!!! I highly reccommend takng him. He is very helpful!!!! If you need help ask him and he will help you. He wants you to pass!!!!!
He was cool, take him.
He did a great job of maintaining my interest. He made sure every student was somewhat fluent in music fundamentals before the class was over.
great teacher
Aaron Alon is an awesome teacher. you do not need to buy the book. easy class... you must take him...
Aaron was very friendly and crystal clear on his description of various points in the fundamentals of music with a slight overlap into music theory. Overall, this was an informative, easy, and delicious class. Get him as your professor! He's awesome! Not to mention modest in his musical skill.
fun class
Really fun class. Explains things in different ways so each person understands it. He's funny and full of personality.
Initially I was very excited to take this class but found it disappointing in the fact that Mr. Alon wasn't very clear and almost always late or cancelling class.
Great guy. I've had him for a lot of classes and his teaching style is easy to understand.
Aaron is such a great music mentor and is one of the most nicest teachers I've had in along time
Aaron is a great professor and most certainly knows how to explain things in many different ways to make sure that each student understands the material. He offers many opportunities for tutorials as well as out of class credit. He is super enthusiastic and really enjoys sharing his knowledge, great guy. :)
Great professor and hilarious in addition. If you take from anyone else, you should be flogged and criticized.
The class was easy to pickup, and I had a good time learning how to use Pro Tools. Definitely is a good teacher, and would recommend.
Awesome professor, really goes out of his way to make sure students understand the material. Very clear on instructions.
Easy class and learned a lot, very helpful
The instructor was very informative and helpful when learning a new task. He was very prepared for each class and had a lesson for each day so the class didn't seem monotonous or boring.
Aaron is awesome! He knows about everything music and is really helpful and helps ypu understand audio engineering. He gives extra credit which is really helpful. You need to study for the tests! Very detailed. Overall great teacher!
He is a really great teacher! Very helpful and makes the class very easy!
Great teacher! Very helpful and clear.
Like his positive attitude; keeps a student focused on learning rather than other things. Knowledgeable fluently, in his craft. Will explain something verbally, and then aurally, which can be a useful aid. Easy-going and agreeable. Will correct your mistake to help you learn, will tell you what you should study to be prepared for exams. Good prof.
A very helpful professor. He explains the material very well and has a genuine interest in the students' learning.
Aaron is such an excellent teacher! He explains the material in a variety of ways to ensure you understand. If for some reason you are still having trouble, he is more than happy to help you outside of class. He also has a lot of extra credit opportunities!!!
In Popular Songwriting you get what you put into the class. Dr. Alon is a very skilled composer and lyricist; he can help you write any genre. The concepts taught in the class are easy to understand and are taught well.
This class is about participation. If you are actively involved, you will get a lot of knowledge out of the class. It's a great class for people who know very little to people with a small amount of experience in audio engineering. Dr. Alon is pretty knowledgeable in the subject and he cares about his students' learning.
This class is all about being involved. If you aren't involved or you aren't interested, you're going to have a bad time. The auditioning techniques learned in the class help a lot. Dr. Alon even does some vocal coaching, but not much because it's not his profession. Dr. Alon cares about his students and will help anyone who reaches out.
Dr. Alon is very clear in his lectures. He is available if you need help. He is respectful and willing to work using different methods to helps students learn. There is not a lot of homework but he's willing to help if you need practice. The class is very relaxed but procative.
Very helpful, always eager to make his students reach the highest grade possible, but his classes aand tests can be quite demanding as well.
Best Teacher I have ever had! Always keeps you interested in the subject of what we are talking about in class, Assertive, and knows how to relate to the students very well.
He is a great teacher that knows what he's doing. He always explains the material so that it is simple and clear.
Wonderful teacher!
He knows material well and will try to help with any questions he can. Does not always respond to emails though.
A truly amazing teacher would recommend to anyone taking their first music class. Is very easy to understand during class and is always willing to answer any questions students have before or after class. If you are taking music 1301 TAKE HIS CLASS!
I really learned alot during my time in this class. Most of the learning is hands on so it makes the class really enjoyable. He's always willing to help you out and gives multiple chances for extra.Great Teacher overall!
Prof. Alon is an Amazing teacher! He is very easy to work with and wants to see his students succeed. He puts you in real life situations and shows you how to handle them. (for example, the audition process) He also gives extra credit! He's also VERY funny!! I highly recommend him for any music class he is teaching.
Really good teacher, hes very nice and helpful, Highly recommend
this professor is Da'BOMB take him dont question it!
Easy going professor, but you gotta do the work, it makes the class easier.
He is a great teacher and if you are passionate about songwriting, you will love this class. I, however, am not a huge songwriter (Can't even read music fluently) so the class probably wasn't meant for me. It is still helpful though.
Good instructor very helpful and fun.
Very helpful and funny. Recommend his class be ready to learn music.
Good teacher and very interesting and fun class!! I think this class and teacher are effective!
he is a helpful teacher. if you do not know music this class can be hard but he will help you out if you do not understand
HE EXPLAINS MUSIC IN A VERY SCIENTIFIC FORMAT. SO IF YOU HAVE A HARD TIME FOLLOWING/COMPREHENDING MATH, I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND ONE TO TAKE THE CLASS. BESIDES THAT, AARON'S SUPER HELPFUL AND WANTS HIS ALL OF HIS STUDENTS TO SUCCEED IN HIS COURSE. CAN ONLY MISS 2 CLASSES BEFORE IT AFFECTS YOUR FINAL GRADE. YOU CAN EARN EXTRA CREDIT TO MAKE UP FOR IT.
He is one of the best musicteachers i have ever had. in order to get agood grade you should not miss any classes.
Excellent professor. He explains everything very clearly and thoroughly. He moves at a comfortable pace and takes time to help each person stay caught up. His class stays pretty light and fun if you're interested in the subject. Very personable teacher. Highly recommended.
I think Mr. Alon was a great person, but unfortunately I really didn't learn anything by the end of the semester.I actually have some knowledge of music and still I was lost. I sincerely tried to interpret what he was saying, but it just wasn't happening. I think the ones that will succeed the most are those who already are advanced in music.
He is a good teacher. Very passionate about the class. He also cares about his students. Tries to explain the concept to students undertsanding. One of the best music tutors in LSC.
Great Professor! He is very helpful and wants all his students to succeed in his classes! Offeres extra credit but you can only miss two days before it starts to affect your final grade! I would recommend taking him if you need a music credit!
He is a good teacher. Very helpful and loves what he does. one in-person quiz, and a couple online quizzes. you will also need to learn and song on the piano
genius.
Professor Alon's class is really fun. He explains things cleary and is always available to help if you need it. Definitely recommend.
Professor Alon is very attentive and willing to help students. He is respectful and available if students need extra help. Sometimes it feels like the class is going too fast, but he is willing to go back and help students understand before moving on.
He explains things differently so each individual understands. He is a very good teacher. His classes are fun and interactive.
Very Helpful
Theory can be a very boring subject, but Prof. Alon makes it fun and interesting. He does everything he can to make sure his students succeed.
Professor Alon is a great instructor. Very helpful and very nice. You can tell that he is so passionate about what he's teaching in class which made it more interesting to learn from him. If you ever get the chance, take him! You won't regret it!
Wonderful teacher, very fun. Class is always enjoyable.
Aaron is an excellent professor and does a great job of making sure that the students understand that the material is more than just concepts to be learned, rather, they are actually things that can be seen as truly interesting and thought provoking. Has a hilarious sense of humor and always keeps class upbeat and fresh with new information!
He is very passionate about what he does! Was very helpful. If you need to take a music course, I would recommend taking him!
He is willing to help students
He is a very caring and knowledgeable teacher!
Very professional and fair. Does his best to work with you. He understands your concurrent course and work load. I took the pop singers class at lone star the second semester it was offered. It is a program that is constantly improving.
Professor Alon really knows his stuff. I learned a lot and thought this was a great experience.
He's a knowledgeable professor who cares about the success of his students. Great Class!
Good Teacher
interesting class. Great for a beginning song writer.
Awesome teacher! Helpful and funny.
Took music appreciation will Alon. he offers 1% extra credit on final grade for completing this evaluation. no class is a blow off class, but if you are there everyday and pay attention there is no reason you shouldnt get an A.
He's a good teacher. Not boring. Very helpful if you need any help. Quizzes will need to be studied for but quite easy. Recommended
Pretty sweet guy. Very knowledgeable about working in the music world.
Professor Alon was extremely helpful throughout the summer session. He was always attentive and eager to teach at your personal level and pace.
Aaron is an AMAZING teacher!!!!!!
Great teacher! Very passionate about music appreciation, I would highly recommend this professor.
Very into Music. took this class only to fulfill a credit and this is not an easy blow off class. you do not need the book. I would not recommend getting the book if you pay attention in class. must show up for class it is graded. I passed but i studied. still easy but not a blow off. gives extra credit. should be able to pull off an A if you try.
Not a completely boring class, it depends on the era of music that is being taught. I wish that we could've done more on the contemporary era. You actually have to look over your notes for the quizzes/tests, and know what you're talking about in the paper. Good class overall.
Cool class
Grades hard on paper but he reviews good before the quiz!
great professor. Take him
Cool guy, easy A if you take good notes and such. I didn't.
he really helps you understand the course material, and really makes his lessons fun
A very well spoken professor who provides a clear and concise course in music while displaying superb piano skills.
Nice teacher, really enjoyed the class!
Crazy hard teacher. Anal about attendance. Was a big part of grade. Papers suck.
The class is not a blow off class. But it is fair
He seems to know what hes talking about, but sometimes he leaves out some important details until the very last minute.
Professor Alon is an amazing instructor. He is very clear and has a passion for teaching music. Rather this class is a requirement needed to fulfill credits or if you are a music major,I highly recommend this course. Any bad comments would only be from students who don't come to class. He provides reviews for all exams and finals. Amazing Teacher!
Great professor! He is very passionate about what he teaches and is very helpful!
He made this class so hard. Graded harshly, final exam was super hard. Don't take.
Great teacher.
Great professor! Very patient, and very knowledgeable. One of the most friendly professors I've ever had.
Ask questions if you have them, he will make sure to help you out. Use puns to get a laugh out of him.
The class was super cool. The teacher takes the time to help students. Easy if you do your work and come to class (go figure). Would take again.
Learn Alot. Great teacher
Awesome class! If you're looking to get valuable, constructive feedback, this is the place to get it.
okay class
Wanna pass? Attend. Make sure you actually write songs if you take this class, don't just expect to walk in, work only in class, and have a song write itself. The help is there, you just need to ask. This is more of a workshop class than an actual "sit down, write down what I say and test on it later" class
He's very knowledgable. He likes giving timed quizes.
Aaron is a great teacher who really cares about his students! The course included a lot of material that is very helpful in learning to develop your career. Included where quite a few guest speakers on topics from copyright law to business finance. I highly recommend not only this course but this teacher. Not a cake walk, but worth it!
Professor Alon is a wonderful professor. When we began the semester, we began with meter and rhythm, which was one of my weak areas. But after spending a few weeks on it, I got better at it. He gave a clear explanation on how to count using simple and compound meters
This Professor is professional, and well educated. Will go beyond his job to help you. He cares for your grade and most importantly if you understand it. It would be a mistake not to take his class.
Great professor. Helped out with confusion and would have tutorials every week right after the class once a week.
He's cool and can be cocky
Really amazing teacher, wonderful person, and an understanding teacher. He makes you work but he does literally everything he can to help you reach your goals.
Enjoyed his class very much
Dr. Alon is a great professor who will go out of his way to help a student. Student's should not hold back questions if they are confused because Dr. Alon will definitely do his best to help. Great theory professor. A favorite.
Dr. Alon is very picky when it comes to your work, however, this is a positive aspect of his teachings. Dr. Alon will help you quite a bit when it comes to lyrics, and your music's chords. Wonderful Professor.
Great instructor
I really enjoyed having Professor Alon for Theory I this past semester. Normally when he begins Theory I, he starts out with meter and rhythm, which was one area in music I struggled with most. But after several weeks of going over meter and rhythm, I got better at it. I totally recommend him if you are interested in theory.
Did not think material was expressed with enough clarity. In my opinion, a lot of fast-talking but not much sensitivity to the students' understanding of what is being taught.
You have to do your own research and study to make everything click. Don't expect to just attend class and walk out of the room with everything making sense in your head.
Awesome teacher
Most definitely will work with you and help you inside and outside of class!
If you show up, you will pass. This is a hands on class, and you will learn all you need to about microphones, microphones, microphones... Did I mention microphones. All you ever wanted to know about miking instruments.
I came in wanting to learn more about music production in general and this class was an extreme honor to be a part of. I loved all of the recording settings that took place, we even got a chance to run live audio as well. If you're looking for a new kind of music experience then this is the class for you.
Aaron is a great teacher and extremely knowledgable about music theory. At times he can talk really fast and the information can fly right over your head. However, if you let him know that you are struggling and need extra help, he will take the extra time outside of class to help you. He wants his students to do the best that they can!
Aaron is a great teacherdirector. I would take this class every semester if it was offered. Favorite class of the year.
There is so much information that is provided it's incredible! I'm glad Aaron created this class. It was an awesome experience. If you want to become a profesional musician, this class is definitely a must!
Great course, incredible teacher
Professional development for musicians was a pioneer course for us in Fall 2014. Aaron went through a lot of trouble to have a course ready for us that would teach us to think about the options available for those working in the musical arts. Because of this class I know of several new avenues to continue my career as an audio engineer. Take this!!
great teacher. highly recommend.
Awesome teacher!
Dr. Alon is hard to understand when it comes to lectures whether you grasp knowledge quickly or are a little bit slower. However, if you take it upon yourself (and you should) to ask questions, seek help, and put forth the effort Dr. Alon will be there for you and walk you through studies.
Would have preferred if another instructor with a very different method of delivery were teaching this course and would have excelled in the class like I know I could have if so.
This professor Grades really hard. His exams are hard and he expects a lot. He explains things vaguely because the notes are online. But only available after class which is very inconvenient. He is a funny teacher though.
I loved his class! Best professor I've ever had!
Good director, sometimes sets goals too high. But this class is fairly easy if you do the work. He definitely shows favoritism but overall is fair.
He's Great!
Whether or not you're here to learn about this particular subject or otherwise, Dr. Alon is informative enough to let you in on whatever it is that you might be curious about. Would recommend highly.
Aaron's really there to make sure you meet your goals. He's also very good about pulling us out of doubtful slumps. If it weren't for our conversations, it would have been much harder to get my song done by the end of the semester.
He's cool but go to class and do your homework
awesome person.
It was a challenging class
Great teacher! Really cares about his students learning and understanding
Great class!
He's strong in feedback and answering questions
A really great experience!
He was new to teaching this class so I think most of the drawbacks was that. It was better than songwriting 1 and had hardly any theory homework so yay. I suggest signing up for it if you like songwriting and working with people.
Super fun. It was a bit difficult timing wise, but it was a great experience.
A hard but fun class. Great teaching
Really fun and enjoyable. This is my third class with this prof. and i loved every one of them.
Pretty good.
He's always available for his students
It is obvious that Aaron has a lot of knowledge when it comes to music. Sometimes though his lectures can be overwhelming and the information doesn't come across clearly. However, if you are having trouble with the material, just let him know and he will tutor you privately. He wants his students to succeed!
He ' s an awesome teacher, you have questions he ' s got answers. You can say he' s a music dictionary on feet, tons of information on concerts ranging from early to contemporary music . Dr. Alon is very approachable and humble, he s not afraid of admitting mistakes and quickly corrects them. He makes you want to explore music in every level.
Great teacher, great class to take a little turf on Quiz definitions, but helps you and gives extra credit to make up for your grades..... :) :) :)
Mr. Alon was a wonderful professor. He is more than willing to make sure that you succeed in his class. He is hilarious as well so it creates a relaxed environment for learning and that's one of the big reasons as to why I passed this class. I really enjoyed his class and is a must for anyone thinking about taking Music Appreciation.
I came in not knowing how to read music or really anything except how to listen to it. If you're looking for a class to learn how to read music, essentially back to basics this is an awesome class to take. Mr. Alon takes time to explain everything, just make sure you ask if you don't understand. Overall this class was really fun and insightful.
He knows a lot. Like a lot a lot. Extremely approachable and able to put concepts of varying degrees of complexity into appropriately complex terms, unlike myself, as indicated by this sentence. He's also got a lot of patience if you need to ask a bunch of questions.
Fun class, good atmosphere. Pay attention and do the quizzes and you will be just fine.
Great Teacher. Just great.
If you pay attention in class you will pass. You will not need the book.
He goes a little too in depth, and covers unnecesary topics. Over all a good teacher, he's very organized and helpful.
Laid back guy. Class is interesting and the music keeps you interested as well.
Great professor, mostly lecture and a lot of quizzes after. The only way to pass is to pay attention in class and taking notes. The quizzes are repetitive at the most part, so study previous quizzes.
Professor Alon made this class a blast with the different amount of music played to help understand the concept of the era we were studying at the time.
Outstanding teacher! For the most part, he was very clear on explaining the concepts. At times, the excerpts he showed were beyond me wanting to pay attention. Other times, he was right on point! Got a lot of interesting knowledge from his class! Took it during summer, so class was a little quicker in teaching, but actually fit perfectly! Good Job
Explains music then plays it. I feel that was very helpful.
he was awesome yo.
Awesome profesor! He tries to teach in different ways knowing every student has a different way of learning.
Seriously, this is the class to take. the teacher explains music, plays the music on a piano, no textbook, assignments are simple. what's not to like?
Great teacher. Definitely there for help if you need it. Responds to emails very quickly. Caters to the student.
I really like this professor! He makes a difficult subject clear for people to understand well. Sometimes he gives sarcastic responses to people which is really funny! I recommend this professor a lot!!!
Great class. Came away with a lot more than I expected.
Aaron knows his stuff and is more than happy to help you if you find his lectures confusing. all you have to do is ask! highly recommend.
Absolutely fantastic teacher who knows his subjects thoroughly - without a shred of a doubt one of the best teachers i have ever had and I will be continuing my education with him. Also has a strange obsession with cats, so no dogs allowed pls
Make sure you go to class and participate. It is a fun class but you also have to practice.
Awesome class, he explains really well and if you dont unerstand. Just ask and he'll explain it until you do.
He was great! Professor Alon was outgoing, funny, and he is very clear on what to expect on his tests. He reviews them with you which makes it a lot easier to pass them, even though they're easy to pass anyways. Attendance is important in his class so make sure to be there. His class lectures are interesting so the hour flies by. Super fun class!!
Easy A, to be honest. Just put effort into it. Attendance is mandatory, but honestly, I find that useless since he uploads his powerpoints in D2L, and quizzes are right off of the power points. No midterms or tests, just quizzes and final. Sleeping in class in inevitable, but he doesn't really react badly to it.
Dr. Alon is a great professor. This is an easy A if you pay attention and take notes. He is very helpful and quickly responds to emails. He is very knowledgeable to the subject he teaches, and you can tell he is very passionate about it. If you have to get a fine arts credit, this is definitely the professor you would want to teach this class.
AWESOME dude
EASY A!! Just show up to class because attendance is part of your grade. You don't have to pay attention because he puts everything on D2L. Quizzes come straight from there and he tells you exactly what will be on them. 4 quizzes, couple of assignments and 1 project.
Gives a good mix of introductory and advanced concepts for the range of musical literacy present in the class.
Good!!
very informative and provides many useful examples.
He's extremely laid back and understanding. He treats everyone with respect and will do everything he can to make sure you have as many opportunities as possible to excel. He stays focused and lets you know in advance what will be on tests and homework. He always goes over what students miss on the tests. Oh yeah, he has great stories too. lol
Awesome professor. Pay attention carefully, cause he moves quickly. But extremely rewarding once he explains completely. Perfect balance between work and relaxation. Doesn't make you feel swamped with things to do.
Pretty cool, calm, does not stress about much. Helps your technique a lot! But don't get too comfortable, the semester is faster than you perceive it to be at first! keep on top of your work, and you'll do perfectly fine.
Dr. Alon is a wonderful instructor. His explanations are very clear, and he explains things from different perspectives so that you can find a method to best understand the material. He definitely works toward the success of his students and even offers tutoring outside of class.
This instructor is enthusiastic about music theory and gives thorough explanations and examples of its applications.
For people with little/no music experience whatsoever, this class might be a bit difficult at first. However, Dr. Alon's teaching style is straight forward and he provides resources/practice for practically every topic which really helps. Also, try not to miss days because some topics are a little confusing and are better explained during class.
Recommend him to anybody that needs a art credit. He is very passionate about music and knows his stuff and if you need help is willing to help you out just ask. Really nice professor.
I enjoyed this class. The Professor was clear in his lectures and he gave out a lot of recorces to use when studying. He also explain what he expected on the tests. You just need to practice everything you learn becuase the lectures are fast paced.
Awesome course! Definitely learned what I expected and beyond that!
Was a great class, go to tutorials!
As a musician who's never taken any music classes, Aaron's class is not the hardest music professor you could take. It will take time and effort outside of class to earn your desired grade. Classes are fun when out of topic, once class starts it gets to the point. Aaron is highly educated, worth taking.
First Piano class ever taken. It takes time and practice to get all your work done. Most, if not all assignments are given at once. If dedicated enough, you could finish all work early. Fun class to joke around. (Rough, rough, meow!) Lol
Aaron alone is such a good teacher. Test is easy. Easy A for this class.
He's really easy and funny. He usually play the music for you.
Makes lectures interesting and engaging. Gets more in depth about topics for those more interested.
He is an amazing teacher. He is very nice and interesting teacher ever. All the quizzes are very easy. If you want an eassy A, so this is for you.
Only take this class if you're looking for something professional and not just for a grade
attendance is key
Was a great teacher, really had fun lectures and didn't require a textbook! Quizzes are all based on his lectures. Really easy class if you pay attention
It's a pretty boring class but there isn't much work. He counts attendance so show up most of the time. Read the PowerPoints he puts online before the Quizzes. Do your final project (which is totally easy). You'll definitely pass unless you try not to.
Class was somewhat easy but definitely more of a music literature class. cool guy, though.
Great class to take along with theory and sight singing. 10/10 Would recommend.
Good teacher, class is not hard, show up to class.
Enjoyed the class. It was very helpful. Lectures and instructions were clear and you are able to follow along as long as you study and do your homework. Much like anyother class.
A very nice, experienced musician and teacher. Always gave good advice and was very hands on in general about things. He was a reasonable and rational man.
I love Electronic class; it helps me to become more creative
He is very helpful. He is an expert in the subject. You will love him!!!
Very good communicator - interested in students actually learning the material and utilizes different techniques to reach students at their level. Professional yet friendly. Definitely knows the subject matter and provides an enjoyable atmosphere. Grading is very fair, but you need to attend and pay attention.
Professor Alon is an excellent teacher. Listen to the lectures, participate in class, and finish assignments. He gives great feedback and cares about his students passing. He's not overly lenient but he will do whatever he can to help you pass. This was his first year teaching Honors and he did a great job. If you take his class, utilize him.
His lectures are very strategic as to achieve the best understanding.
Great teacher, fast talker, but will totally repeat again if you ask. If you're looking to learn theory, take his class. If you're looking for an easy A, look elsewhere.
Piano is piano, and he expects you to put in the work, practice, and use knowledge from his theory class to get through. If your'e ready to really LEARN piano, take this class. If you're looking for an easy A, keep searching.
This class was one of the most important classes I ever took. It taught me not only to be a better musician, but a better person. It also allowed me to connect and network with people that can be essential to getting really great opportunities in the future. The mock auditions were incredibly useful, and the guest speakers were great.
Dr. Alon truly cares about his students. He is always available for questions, and answers everything you ask him. He is very knowledgeable not only in the course content, but in all the various aspects of the music degree and industry. I can't imagine a better professor to take Theory with.
Dr. Alon has created a wonderful course full of resources and knowledge that all musicians should know before graduating and entering into the music industry. His open and honest discussions and reviews of mock auditions are priceless. The guest speakers he brings in are inspirational and so relevant to anyone seeking a career in music.
Dr. Alon is a great professor! As long a you follow the instructions on the homework assignments and memorize the the lectures he gives, you'll do great.
Really reliable professor and very communicative with you when it comes to assignments and due dates. He is very lenient and always has your best interest in mind. On the other hand, I am not a huge fan of the online lectures and assignments in class because often times it doesn't feel like we even have an assignment in his class certain days.
Dr. Alon is a fantastic teacher. His lectures are clear and he takes the tome to help each and every student when they need it. Tough material however, do not expect to just show up and pass.
A bit intense material, but if you pay attention and take notes here and there it isn't difficult at all. If there's a kid who's good at this stuff that is in the class, FOR HEAVEN'S SAKE MAKE THAT KID YOUR NEW BEST FRIEND. Otherwise, you should do fine and Prof. Alon is extremely helpful if you don't understand something.
Challenging material, but Dr Alon wants to see students succeed.
Yes, you absolutely should take his class. Great teacher, awesome lessons!
I took him as an honors class and he is an amazing professor. His lectures are about and hour long videos he posts on D2l. His quizzes are easy as long as you understand the lectures and actually watch them. Is required to go watch three musicals or plays and then write a paragraph about the music. He gives many ways to earn extra credit.
Professor Alon is awesome! He makes the class really interesting and gives great examples when discussing different music topics. You must participate in class discussions and complete assignments to receive good credit. He does give lots of opportunities for extra credit. Not your typical music appreciation class! Great class, would take again!
Dr Alon is a great professor! He expects you to participate and will point out how you should play piano.
The Teacher is very respectful and understanding of family matters. I had to miss a lot of school for medical reasons and not only did he give me private tutor sessions but he also cut me some slack on attendance, which is graded.
Dr. Alon is quite possibly one of the best professors you'll ever take, so make sure to be prepared and to be respectful. Do not play Philip Glass in class, save that for home.
My absolute favorite professor at Lone Star College Cy-Fair is Dr. Alon. He is as kind as he is brilliant!
He is absolutely brilliant!! He is a wonderful instructor and his knowledge for music is incredible. If you work with him you WILL. NOT. FAIL.!!!! He is very understanding, he will answer your question 10 different ways if he needs to. I took this as an honors class and i can honestly say i learned a lot. I really advice everyone to take him.
It is a very fun class and Dr. Alon is awesome!
Fun and interactive class
Dr. Alon is very helpful. I took summer 6 wk mini, workload was not to much. Overall good class!
Good professor, very enjoyable class, Wasn't too hard. I procrastinated until the very end which cost me an on the project. Would recommend 10/10
Professor Alon is such an excellent professor. He is very passionate about his love of music, which is great. His lectures tend to be a little lengthy, and if you are not interested in music as much as he is, and are just using this to get a credit out of the way. This probably is not the class for you.
He is a nice teacher but get ready to participate in class, also he is a tough grader but he does give you opportunities to get your grade up with extra credits.
This class isnt as easy as youd expect. Ive been in choir for 9 years and there was a lot that i had to study for in this class.
Good teacher, but a really tough grader. Makes you feel like it's more of an english class than a music one.
Fantastic professor. Always communicates clearly with his students and provides really interesting and engaging lectures
This class isn't for everyone. If you aren't that into music then i wouldn't suggest it. Overall he's a great professor w/ good lectures, but also a bit picky on grammar/writing skills. Took it online during 6 week summer sesh. Pay attention a do your work correctly and you'll be fine
Excellent. Learned a lot
Prof. Alon is great! If you're looking for an easy class though, look somewhere else. As long as you put in the work you will learn a lot. He's a pretty tough grader on grammar.
He is super chill. I took him for a summer class, and he only gave out 3 quizzes, an essay along with a power point presentation and of course the Final exam. You really have to know your music periods, sounds, and the elements of music.
A fantastic professor that gave great feedback in a respected amount of time. I failed music appreciation a few semesters ago, but thanks to him, I will walk out of this class with an earned A.
Great feedback. Make sure to do every assignment thoroughly.
He's funny, easygoing, professional, never rude or frustrated or angry, and he uses different methods to help us understand music, like videos and bits of songs, plus he plays piano to describe certain musical ideas. Oh, and yeah, he's pretty good-looking, too.
Prof Alon had one of the better online classes I've taken, super organized and easy to follow. Not a hard class if you simply do whats asked. Four quizzes, four discussions, one 2-3 page paper, and the final. Not bad at all. You can tell he really enjoys this stuff, which makes it better!
Great professor! Understanding and lectures well.
Amazing professor! Great overall experience.
In taking Music 1306 with professor Alon, even though this was an online Music class, don't be fooled by the level of difficulty you will face. After taking English 1301 and 1302, and making As in both, you better be more than well prepared to work hard for this class. However, Alon is very helpful and is very descriptive and will try to assist you
Aaron's class was more challenging than I expected, but it was a a good experience overall. He makes all class lectures and materials accessible online, so no need for an expensive textbook.
He is reasonable, easy to understand and organized. All the material was on D2L.
Great job
overall a great professor. I was just lazy and did not study
Lecture are enjoyable, but lengthy.
Prof. Alon online course is based mostly on his lectures, that you must listen to and take notes in order to pass the quizzes; which isn't as hard as it sounds. One thing Prof. Alon is VERY picky about is punctuation, grammar, and proper use of phrases, etc. make any mistake and he will criticize it in your discussions and research paper.
The lectures are fun and informative. I have been able to improve my knowledge well.
Very understanding, caring, and patient. There is a lot of homework but only 1 test. He explains the criteria in more than one way so that you can use the tool that works best for you. He is very laid back and funny.
Very tough grader, tests are very difficult
Prof. Alon, is a tough grader when it comes to grammar, punctuation, and syntax. Quizzes and tests are easy as long as you pay attention to the lectures and take notes. He provides everything for you so a book isn't necessary. He does provide extra credit and allows enough time to complete assignments.
Professor Alon is a good teacher. He is extremely organized. He provides video lectures that are about an hour each. Tests are a bit hard because the wording you study will be different and confusing on tests. You must learn the sounds of the music in the lectures to pass the tests. Do your work on time and stay on top of things you'll pass.
Beware, even though this is a Music Appreciation class he grades like a English Professor! He expects "college level" writing and will grade you very harshly! 1 Final Exam, 1 Final paper, 3 quizzes that make up a good portion of your grade. A takehome assignment (form assignment) is VERY DIFFICULT if no music experience. Lectures are youtube videos
This is a really easy class! Professor Aaron is kind and respectful to everyone. Since day one, he kept a positive environment. We didn't have any homework. We had four main projects: two presentations (about 5 minutes each) and two software projects. You don't have to purchase the textbook. There are two tests and no essay assignments.
Dr. Alon is an excellent choice for whichever class he teaches. He will make sure everyone is understanding the class content. Something I appreciated the most was that he will give you a very specific feedback on papers, he will provide you with tips to address and fix each of your points. Overall, a great class, he is very professional.
This class was not too difficult for someone who has never played piano before. Aaron is patient with students and gives feedback in order to improve. You should practice outside of class to stay caught up.
This class was very interesting. You learn about mics and how they work and industry standard software that you use in the class. Aaron is patient with students and gives feedback about your work. 2 presentations, 2 tests (midterm and final), 2 projects and attendance. Overall, this was a really fun class!
Prof. Alon is a challenging professor. He is very intelligent and may seem intimidating at times but he truly cares about developing critically-minded students. He understands challenging students is important but at the same time, he goes the extra mile to help you succeed and you can tell he truly loves music and interacting with students.
Professor Alon is a good teacher. He is very thorough with his lectures. He does not require a book. He provides YouTube videos for lectures. You have to make sure to pay attention. He is a tough grader and is tough on grammar, punctuation, and proper use of phrases. He treats it just like an English professor. He also provides good feedback.
Really good at explaining things and always offers to help, hilarious and doesn't grade hard
Music Appreciation was awesome. I learned a lot about the history and different elements of music which has given me a new way of listening and understanding music. Would definetly recommend if you want to be challenged a little and learn some good stuff. Wouldn't recommend if your looking for a blowoff class.
I wasn't too crazy about the MUSC1306 material. It was boring to learn about and write. I think Professor Alon did his best to make it interesting. I was thankful that he had a pleasant/upbeat voice in all his video lectures. He was SO GOOD about responding quickly to any problems I had. He is a quick grader and provides lots of good feedback.
Professor alone has proven himself to be one of the best music professors in the Houston area. If you take his class, you will not regret it as there is always something to learn.
Professor Alon was great! He responds very quickly to any questions you have and does an awesome job at explaining! He is very interesting and very well organized! TAKE HIM!!!!
Music Appreciation was a fun class to take. I learned a lot about the different elements of music. This is not a blowoff class you definitely have to work hard to get a good grade. But he offers plenty of extra credit and feedback.
Great professor overall. Very kind and is always respectful to every student. Gives attention to each student and always responds in a soothing manner. Has a good sense of humor and likes to make the class interactive and fun with videos and audio samples.
Very good at explaining things from the test and homework. Worth taking his class.
Great Professor be ready to read he gives you chances to make a better grade he teaches you something you can use if you really want to learn about music. Not an easy A.
If you show up to class and follow the directions, you'll get an A
He's a really helpful professor and knows exactly what he's talking about. Don't be afraid to ask questions. I would highly recommend him if you're serious about your music career.
Professor Alon really knows his stuff. He is easy to understand and talk to. I enjoyed Theory 1 more than I thought I would!
Professor Alon is a clear speaker, and is easy to talk to if you have questions.
Professor Alon is respectful in his feedback and really good at answering questions.
He's a very good and enthusiastic professor, really like his teaching style. Will take his class again if I have the chance to.
He is very knowledgeable and passionate about music. He makes the information easy to understand. He truly cares about the success of his students. Hands down the best teacher I've had.
Great professor! He is really passionate about what he does and really strives to help his students succeed. He does a great job with answering questions/explaining things. The material could be challenging at times but he made it a fun class to go to.
Dr. Alon is an amazing teacher. He is so passionate about what he does and it is inspiring as a music major. He does teach at a fast pace but he will help if you are lost. He makes lectures entertaining and Theory can be fun! I loved this class with Dr. Alon and I cannot wait for the semesters ahead!
Piano I was a challenge for me since I have never touched a piano before this semester. It does require a ton of out of class practice. He has no deadlines until the end of the semester. This class also coordinates with Theory so you apply skills learned in that class at the piano. Overall, Dr Alon is a great piano teacher & gives quality feedback.
Professor Alon knows music very well and he replies email fast. But when he's grading your paper, he is picky about punctuation, grammar, and proper use of phrases.
Great professor. Actually cares. Lectures engaging. Goes extra mile to answer questions in depth.
It was very helpful and interesting class! Aaron is awesome!!
Great teacher, gives off a great mood and teaches the material in ways that you can completely understand and apply
He's an awesome teacher and is always willing to help you outside of class. If you need a music class take his please!!!
Worked well and loved tutoring/seeing students succeed. Was late sometimes but had so much passion it overrode.
He is very helpful if you have any questions. His powerpoints are on d2l if you need to look back on them. Very good Teacher of the material!
Dr. Alon is an amazing teacher! He is also available when you need help and holds tutorials. Be sure to not miss a class as you can and will fall behind for just missing a day.
Professor Alon is awesome. Can be tough when grading abstracts, papers, but very smart and his classes are so interesting! You really learn a lot and you never dread going to his class.
Dr. Alon is a wonderful professor! He really does care about his students and he does his best in teaching every aspect of music. I would definitely take another course with him. He made the online course very user friendly. He does expect a lot out of you, but that's what makes him such a wonderful professor.
He presents a well organized lecture and gives great feedback.
Great class! be sure to be there for class so you do not miss a lecture. He puts notes up online and they are in depth but it is better if you are in class to get a better understanding of everything.
Aaron is the best!
He's the best take him!
This class is super easy, yet useful. He's always willing to help out no matter the situation. He's awesome and I'm taking him again next semester.
Great teacher. Syllabus was clear and followed. Keep track of the syllabus and complete the assignments.
I only took this class because it was a requirement.
I took his class online and there wasn't much homework, so if you don't do an assignment it will affect your grade. Overall very detailed lectures that prepare you for quizzes, which aren't hard if you take notes on video lecture. He actually made all of his own lectures that are like youtube videos about an hour long each. I enjoyed this class.
Dr. Alon was an amazing professor that made learning theory fun and interesting. I struggled when we got towards the end of the semester, but tutoring in a group or one-on-one was easily accessible. I would highly recommend him as a teacher and will be taking my future music classes with him.
changed the way I listen to music.
it is ok
Professor Alon doesn't rely on pre-chewed materials provided by the textbook publishers but uses his own materials. It shows his dedication to teaching his class in the best possible way.
I like this professor and everything. He's helpful and answers concerns you may have, but I have to say he is a tough grader and his quizzes are pretty hard. Only a few discussions, but he looks at everything like grammars, spelling errors, as well as how well you can put your writing together and you have to be very detail as well. Overall it's ok
His lectures are his own, but they are typically an hour or so long. Part of your grade is to respond to classmate's discussion responses. He is very specific for what he expects and how you can improve your grade for the next assignment. His quizzes can be difficult, so take extremely good notes to study for them.
Dr. Alon is ok. But the class wasn't what I expected. We learned the history of music and the different eras. And we learned about the components that make up music from timbre, form, meter, harmony, etc. Tests are hard, so study and I felt like I was in English 1301. You will write papers.
This class is lecture heavy and I wish he didn't use so many videos as lectures because they didn't grasp my attention long enough for me to watch for hours at a time.
His lectures are great, he returns grades quickly, and gives good feed back.
Dr. Alon's class was tough and felt more like a Music Theory class versus an Appreciating Music Class. I started playing music when I was in the sixth grade and all through my earlier college years and i will say that if i did not have some sort of music background or have been exposed to music in my past, I would have failed miserably.
Trust me... take this teacher!
Professor Alon is a cool dude do your work and you'll pass.
Amazing teacher and a wonderful person!
Professional Development for Musicians taught by Aaron Alon is a MUST take for anyone wanting to get into any kind of music profession. He really covers everything you need to know.
I don't think there is anyone that doesn't like Aaron in his classes. Lectures are really enjoyable, there is no textbook, and he will help you on anything that you don't understand. I took his class for personal reasons, it does not apply to my degree.
Professor Alon gives you honest feedback on what you need to improve.
One of the hardest classes I have taken but Aaron is so good about teaching the material. He has so many different ways of explaining things and is eager to help students outside of class. He is also quick with grading and gives good feedback. He makes the class more interesting I would definitely take him again.
Great professor! His class is hard, but so is the entire subject of music theory. He does his best to help you understand the material, and gives some extra credit. His lectures are not only informative, but they are usually interesting and he is very interactive with the entire class. Don't miss more classes than you must, lectures are important!
He is THE BEST teacher to take in the music field, specifically theory and piano. If you can take him DO IT! He is ALWAYS there to help! And he takes time from his life to make sure you have what you need to be successful!
Just do your work and you will do great! He gives many resources to succeed in this course. I am not musically inclined and have done very well.
Aaron is the best. He'll work with you until you understand, and he can present things in different ways for you to understand.
His proficiency in music theory and other music related topics such as orchestration is inspiring. He also has a great sense of humor!
I've taken his class before and he's a great professor. He is incredibly picky about grammar, sentence structure, etc... Don't get me wrong, I learned a lot about music, but it felt more like an English class than Music Appreciation.
QUizes are hard. Very few assgnments through out the semester. But the one that you get will take whole semester to complete. Get ready for the quizes and exams, Good Luck
He has youtube videos as lectures for online class so nothing to boring to read. The guy is like a strict English teacher though so he'll grade heavilly on things like grammar. Despite this, he's still a good teacher.
Be aware that he will grade your writing like an English 1301 or 1302 class. The online tests are easy if you watch his videos. You really have to do the discussion thing on D2L. The final project is a short essay.
Professor Alon is kind and organized. The only think that makes his class somewhat difficult is that he treats your papers and discussions like you are in an English class. You must be a college level writer.
He is very niece.
He is very helpful if you have any questions. He grades papers very hard so i recommend going above and beyond in writing your paper and also having the writing center help you. There are worksheets as homework a lot.
He is an eggroll that sets up clear assignments throughout the semester. Make sure to come to class so that you can keep up with the assignments.
Great, compassionate professor. You must study, you must practice. When you leave you will know a lot more about music then when you entered.
Took his class online because of my busy schedule however I wish I could have done it in person. He's always wiling to help you if you have any questions about any topic or assignment. I recommend this professor.
This professor doesn't give a lot of work, there are 3 discussions overall, 4 quizzes including final exam and one final research paper. This class may seem easy but this professor is a very tough grader! He grades even harder than an English teacher on simple grammars and writing errors. I would not recommend him to anybody!
HAS GREAT MUSICAL BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE. HE'S THOROUGH IN HIS FEEDBACK AND VERY FAIR.
The class wasn't too work heavy. If you watch the lectures, you should be fine on all of your work. A little bit of a tough grader but besides that, he was a great teacher.
Professor Alon makes sure we understand what we are talking about in class. If one student does not understand something, he will go over a topic again to help them understand. There is obviously going to be writing assignments because it is an Honors class, but I would take his class again. It is an interesting course and he is a great professor.
Hes very lenient and cool but if you want to pass do not take! (For honors course atleast). He is such a hard grader! Wont take him again because he stresses my life out with the way he grades.
Professor Alon is very tough. No matter how much time I spent on analyzing my paper and trying to perfect it, it wasn't good enough. I'm not upset, it is what it is. I respect his teachings and he has made me look at writing persuasive essays a lot differently. Not to mention he does offer lots of help. If you're looking for a challenge, take him.
He's pretty straightforward in his grading and is willing to help you if you make the effort to talk to him. He grades hard, so you have to work for the grade, but his lectures are interesting and thought-provoking. Class participation matters.
The class discussions are intriguing if you have some musical knowledge. As an Honors course, the class was really confusing at times however this was his first semester as an honors professor, so it was extremely understandable. Overall, with papers, he is a tough grader, but as a person, I would rather have really good feedback instead of very little feedback. I would highly recommend to meet Professor Alon during his office hours so you can stay on track for a good honors project.
I love music yet after taking Dr. Alon's class I am changing my major. In this class I felt inadequate and that I could never live up to the professors expectations. One of the most disappointing classes thus far in my college career.
He knows his stuff, not a teacher you want to try and fool. He is understanding about assignments, communication is key.
This class moves at whatever pace you would like it to move. If you practice enough, you can practically finish the class (besides taking the final) at any point in the semester. Easy grader, great guy, super caring, understanding, and fun. He really wants to see everyone succeed. This class in particular was a little harder, but still great.
Professor Alon is absolutely amazing when it comes to providing feedback that is super constructive! When he suggests revamping or reworking something on an assignment, do it! He also provided very insightful lectures that truly involved the students in this sort of Socratic dialogue kind of way. Overall, he is a great and affable professor!
Ridiculously hard grader and overly demanding and critical. He doesn't realize that some of us are new to college, that we have full time jobs and families too.
This is a very tough class. Be prepared to spend hours on homework/studying. If you go to tutorials, pay attention, and ask questions; you should be fine.
Dr. Alon is an amazing teacher, but he is fast paced. He gets through the material quickly and gives you time to figure it out individually. He will is always there to help and he will take the time for tutorials. He works with you step by step and understands what kind of musician you are.
I took his online music appreciation class, and the tasks were fairly simple. The quizzes were easy you just need to watch all his lectures and know when they are due because they surprised me. The final paper was definitely the hardest assignment since directions were unclear and even whenever I thought I did everything right, I got a bad grade.
Aaron is a great guy who really cares about his students. That being said, his music theory class is not for the faint of heart as it will require lots of studying. He puts his materials online, but skipping class is still a bad idea because his explanations are thorough, and he will answer any questions you have in class.
I'm taking the Honors music appreciation course currently, and I don't like it at all. I haven't learned anything this semester, and it feels like an English class with a musical prompt. The instructions are unclear, and a few classmates have agreed with me that it seems directionless. We are left to our own devices in a way. He is nice, though.
I took this course for 1306 honors appreciation. He is a great professor, I learned many things I never thought that I would know. The only thing I struggled with is the honors paper. You just need to be great at writing, especially grammar and things like that. Be prepared to discuss things in class, b/c that also counts. Besides, that we're good.
Although he may be a tough grader, he is fair with his grades. He really loves teaching music and is very knowledgeable on the subject. Overall, I would take another one of his course because he is open to what students have to say.
He is an extremely tough grader. However, he leaves useful feedback and class discussions are some of the best aspects of the class. Work on your writing, such as grammar and sentence structure, and you will pass the class.
I took Professor Alon for Honors Music Appreciation, he is an extremely tough grader but this is expected as an Honors student. Get ready to read for the in-class discussions, and participate if you want to learn. Even though it was his first time teaching honors at University Park he was open to change and improve his course overall.
You can easily tell that Professor Alon really cares about his students understanding the material. Hes not at all intimidating, and you can feel free to ask for any help that you need. His teaching style is very clear. Just make sure you show up to class because it is participatory.
Music appreciation mini-mester was a good choice for me. The class was quick. There were 3 discussions, 3 quizzes, a research paper and the final exam. I was irritated because the research prompt is free choice. Meaning you have to choose something yourself. This was hard for me because I don't care for old music too much. Overall easy class though
I'm taking professor Alon for music appreciation (1306) and so far, it's been pretty easy going. He provides you with the materials needed to succeed. His lectures are fantastic. He knows his stuff and does a good job at sharing his knowledge. He says he is a harsh grader for the paper so be careful. If you can take him, take him.
I took MUSI 1306 the quizzes are doable just read the lectures but his Final Paper is ridiculous. His expectations are higher than any English class I've ever taken. Unless your a professional writer I would not recommend this class.
He is always ready to help you if you just ask questions! He's one of the best Theory teachers I've ever had.
He was great! Always willing to help out outside of class and very easy to get along with. Was usually a few minutes late to class so I never stressed about being tardy
I've studied under Aaron for a couple of years now. He's truly a great professor. He will challenge you, but will do anything he can to help you succeed. Very intelligent, easy to talk to, and fun to be around. Don't expect an easy A, but you will learn a lot if you can put in a little effort. You wont regret taking this professor.
I can't wait to be in your class next year and learn even more about music. I enjoy applying what I learn to music as well. Like harmonizing and composing music. It really engages me and reminds me why I'm doing this.
I have taken Aaron's class for a few semesters and I have really enjoyed him. He cares for his students and their success. He also helps you understand something in detail if u didn't understand at first. I would highly recommend Aaron as a first pick.
He always helps out when I need help and his lectures are always very thorough. He is very caring and nice.
Dr. Alon (Aaron) is an amazing professor! He really understands if you are having personal issues. He is very willing to meet for tutoring if needed. Aaron cares for his students and is passionate for what he is teaching. His passion inspires me in pursuing music. I have loved having him as a professor.
Professor Alon sets his expectations of papers higher than your average English teacher. Also will accuse you of using your lecture notes "too much" though it is what he is teaching you so in a way he is contradicting his own words. He does not respond to emails and takes awhile to grade. However, Quizzes are easy.
Hes an awesome professor. All assignments are released the day the class opens. Class consists of 3 discussions, 3 or 4 quizzes, form assignment and a final paper. Sounds like a lot but its all very easy. Hes very flexible and WANTS his students to do well. 11/10 rating. Made an A in the course.
Unless you are amazing in English do not take this class. Although the work is easy and everything is open. He grades as a really harsh English teacher. Told me to use the UP writing center and I did. Submitted my paper four times to them, and he told me I had poor proof reading done.
The assignments he gives online are not hard. I would have passed if I only I had a gotten a good grade on the essay. He is a tough grader on essays so beware of that. other than that the class is ok
While Aaron isn't very organized or clear about his expectations on assignments, he's a kind person who has a lot to teach and makes that experience as fun and exciting as his demeanor. He respects your intelligence and is not afraid to test it with the intention of expanding your mind further. Expect benefit and challenge from this class!
Very dedicated professor, truly is passionate about what he does. He is one of the best theory teachers out there. Class can be difficult if you lose focus, but he is always willing to help with whatever you need. Professor Alon is extremely patient and will help you succeed if you ask for help.
good class, understand materials
Prof Aaron is great, definitely take him! The work is hard if you're not naturally good at the class content, but show up and he will be happy to help you if you need it.
You definitely need to show up to the Music Theory class because the course is lecture-heavy and if you don't come to class you will be totally lost. But Aaron is really accessible in and outside of class if you have any questions and he will definitely find a way for everyone to understand the material. You have to do studying on your part, though
If you want to learn more about music and need a good, objective teacher, Aaron Alon is your guy
Dr. Alon has a gift for teaching. He gives clear explanations and will answer all questions with great patience until everyone understands. You HAVE TO work in order to keep up. You have to take notes since there is no textbook however he provides lots of on-line links and handouts.
Dr. Alon is a very interesting person, he has to be one of the smartest people I have ever met because of how much knowledge he holds. When it comes to papers he is tougher than your normal English professor but does give you good feedback.
This class was definitely difficult, but hes always there to help if needed
This is not the easiest class to take but Aaron tries his best to make sure every student is understanding the materials taught. Assignments in this class are difficult but he offers tutoring outside of class. He really does want his students to succeed and also offers extra credit.
Very thorough in teaching, makes sure everyone is caught up and helps is you need it.
One of the best and most educational professors I have ever had. He is caring and understanding. He won't let you bully him into getting good grades. But, he is very lenient and gives many opportunities for better grades.
He is a very tough grader, especially with his papers, so beware.
Lots of papers and is a tough grader. The coursework is constant revision as I would call it. They assignments build off each other and theres always going to be something wrong with what you submit. He is nice and understanding and approachable. Just difficult. Not a fan of the group project. You will know a lot more about the subject though.
Professor Alon is a tough grader, he will make you work for a good grade. Essays must be done in a timely manner and edited a lot to get a decent grade. He is very respectful and understanding. Make sure to ask questions when confused because if not then things will not work out.
Took Mr. Aaron for a 3 week course, although his class was very smooth sailing all throughout you cannot slack off. He cares about your education but can be a hard critic. Any written assignment, Mr. Aaron will be your worse enemy, no matter how hard your attempt to perfect your writing or who you get help from he will indeed find something wrong.
Dr Alon is a really great professor, yes, he makes you work for a good grade but that is good because it keeps the class quality and makes sure you learn.
had a great experience with Dr. Alon for theory one and two. however, you have to be on the ball and keep up with assignments otherwise you will fall behind. other than that, great class w a great professor who helped me understand music a lot better
Great teacher but if you miss one class you will be behind. He does try to have tutorials if you miss though and he cares about his students
Aaron cares deeply about his students. If you ever need anything he is willing to help so long you put in some work. The lectures are interesting, entertaining and hilarious. Aaron is a great teacher and is incredible smart. 10/10 super grateful to have him as a teacher.
Music Theory is a hard subject, so for any professor if you dont show up you wont pass. A lot of opportunity for extra credit and a lot of grades taken so its hard to fail.
Aaron is a great professor overall this course is really helpful as well for people who are going into careers that are in the music field.
Dr. Alon is amazing at what he does. It is not a chore to go to his class like so many others tend to be. His lectures are interesting, and while he grades a little harshly, it doesn't come from spite. He is genuinely trying to push his students to be better and to excel in any field they choose to be in. I would absolutely recommend Dr. Alon.
This review is for his Pro Dev class: Extremely useful! We've learned a lot about the industry and about ourselves. The mock auditions really helped us to understand that there's a lot more going on than just showing up and playing/singing. The mock auditions did get in the way of other school stuff, so take this if you know you'll have time!
Excellent
Dr. Aaron Alon is THE best professor I have had in any of the music classes I have taken. He clearly labels what is required for each class and checks in on students who are struggling. He accommodates all students, regardless of learning styles. He also provides countless resources for studying/learning the material. Truly a smart inspiring man.
awesome Professor really great to work with excellent class .
Aaron is one of the best professors I have had so far. He always does his best to make sure you are understanding the material in his class and will work with you independently if you need any help. He has tons of optional, supplemental material to help you if you need it. Also, he keeps you engaged during class and doesn't give unnecessary work.
Aaron was really helpful in this course and did a wonderful job of setting me up to a path of success with the music workforce. He did require weekly reading, which took about thirty minutes a week (and reading quizzes weekly). Some portfolio projects require a good amount of time, but it is really not that bad of a course. Great professor overall!
The course was tough but my professor made it very fun and entertaining and easy to understand.
Probably one of my favorite professors! He takes his time to explain why something is what it is. Showing up to class is crucial as this class was 55 minutes. Missing one day can hold you back. Show up, ask questions when you dont understand the material, and youll get an easy A. No pop quizzes. Homework from time to time. Overall amazing class
Great teacher!
A great professor who genuinely cares about his students and knows about the music industry from personal experience. He is very real with you and wants you to do better.
Showing up to this class is extremely important because of the topics being discussed. Work hard on making your auditions better each time because its more important to him that you are actually getting better versus showing the same result each time. Great Professor overall!!
Prof can be confusing, ask questions. Nice guy tho
Aaron makes sure that all of his students understand what is happening in class. You can tell that he truly loves his job. Music Theory III was very difficult, but if you needed the help, he was always there.
This is a really hard class but will help you with your musical development. Dr. Alon is a genius and even though the class itself is hard he will find a way to help you understand.
Prof. Alons class is one of the hardest classes Ive taken yet. That being said, he does everything in his power to make sure you succeed. Hes not going to spoon feed you, though. He makes complex subjects more understandable for all. Theres lots of chances for extra credit, so make sure you do them because youre going to need them.
Professor Alon's class is tough. Pay attention during the lectures. Ask as many questions as you need! He truly cares about his students, so don't be afraid to ask him for help!
Great teacher that cares about students and is willing to help.
Very great professor. If you dont show up, you wont pass, always ask questions if you need help, Dr. Alon is more than willing to help you.
Took Music App. 1306 (mini-mester) for credit, had absolute zero interest in music but Prof. Alon made it short and fun. Participation was just discussions which were very interesting and as well the lectures were super informative in regards to music. Easy A in my opinion and enjoyable alongside his feedback in writing is super helpful.
during discussions where he asks for your opinions, he later in the feedback section tells you your opinion is wrong ??
no clue how he has a 4.5 rating , he graded beyond worse than my engl1301 professor. he takes off so many points just for typos.
What an amazing professor! While he gives solid feedback and good counsel, he is extremely passionate about music and it's evident from how hard he works that he truly wants everyone to pass. This is my third semester with him and I told him that I feel inadequate since I started "late" in music. However, he has been very reassuring. Awesome guy!
He is a great professor that is always willing to tutor, unfortunately the pace of this eight week course is extremely accelerated. Half of the assignments are videos online and never touched on in class except for final review, however, the video lessons are very well put together for a hybrid class. Very easy to fall behind.
He is a very passionate and great professor for music, but the class itself is difficult. Not a lot of time to breathe between assignments, but is very insightful in his feedback. Its very easy to fall behind if you are not on top of your work all the time.
Dr. Alon is very knowledgeable in his field and comes to class very prepared. The course material may be confusing at times but he paces well and goes back to review things his students are unclear on. If you show up to class regularly and participate it would be hard to fail.
So long as you participate in class and do the work (which there isn't a terrible amount of), you'll flourish in Dr. Alon's classes. He's great at helping his students understand the material by making lectures fun and engaging. Dr. Alon is also very respectful towards his students and their backgrounds. No textbook is required either. 10 outta 10.
Dr. Alon is so knowledgable about the subject and really wants you to succeed. Its a difficult class, but thats because of the subject matter. He does a great job at explaining things in a way youll understand and has no problem going back or answering questions.
Take this professor if you want to feel like studying an English class. He's a tough grader, takes a long time to grade. He's graded a discussion like the final essay. Be careful because he grade is even tougher than an English teacher's. Love to catch errors on little things like grammar, structure of sentences. Nothing like a Music class.
Dr. Alon is very prepared for every class and is very knowledgeable. He does his best to teach what other music schools teach, especially since they all teach differently. A wide range of homework assignments regarding difficulty but he is absolutely willing to work with you. Amazing professor!
The class is very fast-paced and has a lot of homework. However, Dr. Alon wants to see his students succeed and offers a lot of extra credit and feedback. There are a lot of assignments and they take me a lot of time to do. This class is fast-paced and takes a lot of time.
If you are ever confused or need him to break something down for you, he will never make you feel dumb & will do his best to help you both inside & outside of class! Homework due every 3 days generally, lecture videos are in depth & interesting too! By far a really good professor!
Taking Dr. Alon was definitely a challenge due to the immense amount of information that is taught in this second level. He is always open to tutor and was a big help to me in understanding the majority of the topics. You do have to put in a lot of effort for this class. He is very dedicated and cares about his students. I would take him again!
Lectures are purposely extended to 60 minutes by making you listen to full pieces of music where a small clip would suffice. The prof info-dumps and does not offer any form of practice. Prof argues against your discussion posts in grading and will dock points if he does not agree. Paper instructions for 2-3 page paper are 2 pages... absurd.
Dr. Alon is AWESOME! He takes the time to make sure you understand the theories behind music, and issues out homework to supplement what was learned. He always responds to questions, no matter how many times they may be asked, and is super patient. He's also very funny and relatable with his students. Always look forward to class time with him! :)
This was an interesting class! I really learned a lot. Doctor Alan is a good instructor, and if you're struggling with anything in his class, he makes himself available for tutoring, he wants everyone to pass and is willing to work with anyone if they're willing. to me, that is a 10/10 teacher!
Professor Alon is by far the best professor I've had. He offers so many opportunities to repair your grade and to have an understanding within the class. He gives tons of bonus questions and offers test retakes to those that would like them. He offers videos online as well as papers to take home to review. He's a very fair grader as well.
Dr. Alon is one the professors that care about his students yet (some of) the work was difficult to understand. He does offer a lot of tutorials to students who struggle with music classes (theory, fundamentals, etc). Because of me taking this as a online class, I have to learn this class from video lessons and also practicing homework strategies.
I took this for Pro Dev for Musicians & I'm SO glad I did. He was strict with preparing for auditions, having our portfolios ready, understanding college lingo, & so many other important things professional musicians wish they new before going into their field. So sweet & hilarious, & extremely helpful especially when you tutor with him.
Taking Professional Development for Musicians will give you a solid foundation for preparing for auditions and making connections within the music industry. Be sure to read the required readings for each week of class (which are provided for free) and to complete assignments on time. It's a lot of work to prepare for the future, but it's worth it.
Dr. Alon is very passionate about what he teaches. He gives you all provided information in order to pass the course. Will definitely take again!
Dr. Alon is very caring and creates the content of this class based on the student's needs. He is extremely flexible, and the class is designed to be as helpful as possible to prepare you for your next professional steps. There are "mock auditions" that feel stressful but are actually incredibly helpful.
Professor Alon is a great professor overall. This course does have a lot of homework, but the homework is not long so its manageable. Professor Alon will grade your homework very fast,as well as give you detailed feedback to help improve. He gives you an opportunity to turn in late work. The only thing is sometimes he is lectures aren't very clear.
Aaron Alon is rude when providing grading feedback. If he doesn't agree with your thought, he takes off for it. I have been writing for many years and he said my writing was confusing. I gave the same text to multiple people to read and they weren't confused at all. His feedback is harsh and he was contradictory many times.
This professor is amazing. I am very insecure but he provides such a welcoming and learning atmosphere. He is also very careful to respond to classmates' incorrect responses with dignity. His swift response in answering emails and grading material is excellent. This professor also really does want his students to succeed.
Dr. Alon is very gifted to teach. He cares about students learning and even offers tutoring outside of class
A good professor teaching a very difficult class, I have no real complaints.
Not difficult at all, quizzes mostly repeat themselves, only issue is that the discussions take up a large portion of the overall grade
Though the class is not filled with specific assignments for grades, his discussion posts make up for the busy work. Whereas some other instructors use the discussion posts to ensure you are logging on, he makes them valuable to the course and learning the course material and expects more than a couple sentences for answers.
An excellent place to learn about music.
Professor Aaron Alon breaks down music's technical terms in such a way that I (a first-time music learner) could understand. His timely updates and reminders on the assignments and tests are a great help, as I tend to take my time with them. Although I haven't been the best student, Mr. Alon is a great Professor!
This professor is really good just make sure to turn in everything before it's due dates.
took his online course, he was great at giving feedback for discussion boards, but he grades tough on them. he has many lectures you gotta listen to. take notes and review your quizzes and you'll do great.
Great professor, maybe the easiest class I'll ever take in my years of college, just turn everything in before time and you'll do great.
He's a great professor, the syllabus was clear, and this'll probably be the easiest and most fun class you'll ever take. take his class
He was a great professor, and the course was interesting without it being too overwhelming. The assignments were pretty easy, but he did have a tough policy where he did not accept any later work even if you are sick and I think that is a little harsh. Overall, I would probably take another course!
Professor Alon is a great professor who made MUSI-1306 an enjoyable and informative class. He gives good feedback to students. The class was not too stressful, and I learned a lot without feeling overwhelmed. However, the late policy is very strict, so be sure to submit your assignments on time.
The professor was great and gave us lots of reminders when certain assignments were done. There is a late policy so make sure to turn your assignment in on time.
I describe Mr. Alon's ability as a teacher to be strong in communicating with the class regarding the classwork and making the entire experience a linear, clear process. These two factors made the class itself a pleasant experience, with little unnecessary difficulty.
Professor Aaron makes the class easy for everyone to learn something.
While I disagree with a few of his policies (personally I think that online classes should have everything due on Sundays, not multiple times throughout the week) Professor Alon was very clear in his expectations, his class was extremely accessible, and he gave everyone every tool possible for success its just up to you to follow through & finish
Loved this class! Prof Alon provided everything needed to get a good grade. He doesn't accept late work at all due to everything being open all semester, so keep an eye out of that if you tend to turn things in late. His video lectures are on the longer side but they're very helpful! The quizzes and discussions aren't hard by any means.
Great class! I took an 8-week course with him and it was effortless. The lectures are long, but the quizzes all repeat themselves and the answers are on Quizlet. The only thing that took some effort was the discussion posts, he expects good effort to be put into them but that is fair since there is no assignments only lectures (that you don't need)
Overall great professor. The content was easy to follow and the quizzes were self-explanatory. I like exploring the different aspects of music and the history behind it. The notes were very helpful.
Dr. Alon is a graceful teacher. My favorite part about having him as a teacher is that he is able to explain the same topic in numerous ways to accommodate different learning styles.
He is a great professor he makes sure what we learn we get a good concept but the material is still hard and when it comes to grading he makes sure that everything is either right or wrong. Overall he is a wonderful professor that will help you out if you just ask. Just make sure to pay attention when he is teaching and you'll be fine.
As long as you do your work, you won't have a problem! Everything is open from the beginning and you can submit it at anytime. However, he does not accept late work due to open submissions. He grades quickly and send reminders to prevent missing assignments. Literally the easiest online class I've ever taken.
this was a very easy course i just didn't keep up that well
Recommend this class! Great professor and he offers extra credit!
I consider this class a challenging class since you have to learn about sequences, RNA practice, and jazz chords. However, Dr. Alon helped the class with this course since Theory iii is difficult out of all the music theory levels.
Very good class, definitely makes you think more and dig deep, does not want surface level answers! Make sure to follow rubric for grading of discussions and participate!.
really easy class, just do your work and you should do just fine
Passionate about music.
Great class for a winter mini! Just make sure you hit all the points in the rubric when answering the discussion posts and you will do fine.
Easy class, double check punctuation on discussions!
Mr Aaron is a very organized professor. His syllabus clearly shows the due date, how to access assignments and how to find your grades. Mr Aaron is a stickler for deadlines, however, I did not find this to be a problem because of his organized class schedule, lectures, and syllabus.
Professor Alon's class is well structured. I love the ease of knowing what and when an assignment was due. Everything except the final is open in advance. I was grateful for his feedback on Packback. I had never used that platform and was confused when using it. Take this class if you need credit. This is an easy A class.
Great professor, as others have said, very well organized. The only reason I gave a 2 because he sometimes fishes for certain answers within Packback. I might have gotten too specific. Don't try to turn assignments in late, no matter what!! 100% would recommend anyone needing credit or anyone needing great music professor who has great knowledge.
If you pay attention to the lecture you will do just fine. There was about 8 assignments total and then the final. Everything was spaced out perfectly. I enjoyed the way his class was set up.
The course overall requires a lot of work but if you turn in your work in time, participate, and really pay attention there really shouldn't be much of a struggle. Music Theory is a lot on its own, but he really makes it fun in a way where you can tell he is very passionate with what he does. Amazing professor overall 10/10 !
Professor Alon's class is well structured. You know what and when an assignment was due from the beginning. Everything except the final is open in advance. His feedback on Packback is very constructive and helpful. I had never used that platform and was confused when using it. Great class to take if you need the credit. This is an easy A class.
Class structure is very organized and easy to follow. As long as you do your work this class is an easy A.
Prof. Alon's class was easy to follow. His discussions are graded based on a grammar, citations, and interaction. Quizzes are easy and review previous lectures. Extra credit is available at the end of the semester. Respectful and provides feedback.
I took professor Alon for an 8wk online class and it was straight forward. He gives you a checklist and has everything accessible from the start. 7 lessons, 3 quizzes/exams, 1 final, and 2 discussions with replying to 2 classmates. Do the work and it should be an easy A.
The class was super simple and easy to navigate through, as long as you keep up with the assignments you are sure to pass.
Highly suggested.
Good professor, nothing too hard. Just make sure to do your work and you should get a good grade. Nothing out this world and the professor replies fast.
Good professor and very helpful
The teacher is not good at explaining instructions.
Dr. Alon is an amazing teacher, he knows how to break music theory down very well, also if you don't understand something, he won't move on. He'll take time out of his lectures to help you understand.
Very solid teacher who helped me individually on numerous occasions outside of class, and would reach out when I missed class to check on me.
Super well organized, and all the lessons have been put together very well.
During this class, I gain a new sense for music. I love music but I guess it was just the surface level. While doing my assignments and quizzes for this class, I really absorbed what music really means.
Make sure you stay on top of your assignments. It's easy to forget with the class being online and at a good pace.
power points didn't go well with the video leaving me to figure out what was going on in the quiz since it wasn't on the power point, but was something he was only talking about. Had to try to find key details and listen to what he said even though I didn't have a way to know if it was part of the Quiz or not. He's always reading Emails I love it.
This professor was clear in his grading criteria. Discussions are worth a lot of weight so be sure to do those. Quizzes were easy and come straight from the lectures. Be sure to watch the lectures and take some notes for the quizzes/test.
A clear schedule was provided at the start of the semester to know what was due ahead of time. Lessons/PowerPoint were provided followed by a short quiz. Provided great feedback on discussion boards when needed.
Professor Alon was amazing and made everything very understandable and easy. His assignments were laid out nicely and everything was easy to follow, with clear deadlines. I would definitely recommend taking him if you can!
Super great professor! 3 quizzes, final, and 4 Packback posts. The only thing is to ensure you read the questions he asks thoroughly; he will make you revise them if they don't.
This professor is very reasonable with the timeline he gives for the assignments (class discussions, quizzes, & extra credits). Although late submissions are not accepted, he constantly posts reminders to ensure you don't forget to do the assignment and you stay on top of your work. Overall, great teacher and great class.
Very easy minimester class. Just do not miss a discussion deadline because there are few assignments.
Professor Alon is a very nice professor, he communicates very well. You have to be sure to finish your work on time there was no late exceptions. Overall great professor and very easy to learn from him.
For an online course, this professor was amazing! He posted everything on the first day of the class, set reasonable grading dates, and responded immediately when I emailed for help. I would honestly give this professor another easy 5 stars!
The professor has a structured system, but if you engage with it, the class is manageable. The lectures are worth attending, and resources like unstuckstudy ai can help with study prep. Stay focused and you'll do well.
Passionate about his field and has really improved my understanding of musical concepts I always wanted to learn about but struggled to comprehend looking into them on my own.
It's not a hard class if you pay attention to the dates and what he expects specifically. He gives good class feedback, and if something is done wrong, he will acknowledge it and let you know.
Really enjoyed this class this semester. I would recommend you have a little musical background if taking the class. I especially liked the Packback discussions, Dr. Alon give great feedback on yours and gives you an opportunity to correct and resubmit. He's a very good Professor, I highly recommend the class.
Professor Alon is very organized in his online Music Appreciation course. His syllabus was followed as listed and he provided the class a checklist showing when everything is due. The discussion posts through "Payback" are a little tricky but he provides feedback and allows you to resubmit for full credit.
Dr.Alon is a very passionate professor and you can really see it through his teaching! Music Theory III is the hardest of the four and I would say it was quite difficult, but he was always able to explain what was wrong and really helped you understand your mistakes. Definitely a professor worth taking!
Just be ready for some lengthy discussion posts. Easy to navigate.
Professor Alon's course uses Packback discussions and he gives constructive feedback when going off topic, instructions are very clear, and he gives students opportunities to correct their work before receiving a final grade.
Dr. Alon is one of the best teachers I've ever had, he is very engaging and knowledgeable. I find his way of teaching to be very effective and he gives us plenty of opportunities to understand the material.
Dr.Alon has been a true life saver when it came to preparing me for Theory I and the rest of my College degree planning! He is always willing to answer any question and is always prepared to have extra study material online if you need more guidance. While simplifying concepts for us to understand, he also treats us like musicians to prepare us irl
Professor Alon, has always been a wonderful teacher to work with he doesn't give a hard time and when your struggling he's there to always help you understand any topic that's bothering you and I've lucky that have him for a Theory 1 teacher plus, I this was my third time taking Music Theory 1 and I'm glad I took it again I was able too understand.
great class, took it online, followed the syllabus, and got a B
I took the 8-week course, it was somewhat fast paced, but slow enough to keep up. He provides a detailed schedule at the beginning of the semester. There are 4 discussions on Packback, 3 quizzes and one assignment (all multiple-choice questions), one final, and some extra credit. It wasn't a lot of work, but his lectures are long.
Great and easy course. Do the work, you cant afford not to, but its not difficult. Dont get lazy like I did and you can easily get an A. I enjoyed the packbacks, I had never done them before. It was interesting to research, read, and present questions for others to answer.
I took this course as a winter mini-mester, and it was the best decision I ever made. This class was very manageable, especially during the holiday season. He has all the assignments open, so you can work ahead, i would take Professor Alon again and again! This is a great class and very interesting!
Took in 3 week mini session. Completed entire course in 4 days because he opens all materials. The final exam is not opened until the last week so I'm still waiting for that. Discussion posts can be a little annoying but manageable. Exams have listening portions so you actually have to watch the lectures. All lectures prepare you well for exams.
he is a good teacher who will remind you that it's his job to help you
Dr. Alon is a music genius. I took his 3-week mini over winter break and so glad I did! The assignments are all opened up from day 1 so you can work ahead. He's kinda nit picky on the packback discussions but overall great! 4 quizzes, 1 cumulative final, 4 packback discussions: 2 questions and 2 responses for each. Take good notes! Great class!
I took music appreciation as a mini. There were constant reminders for assignments. He was prompt with email responses. Everything is open day 1 except the final. The musical examples in his lectures were engaging. Definitely practice identifying what era a piece is from and take notes to study from the lectures and you'll rock the quizzes!
such an easy class, honestly i wish all my classes were as simple as this, beware he doesnt take late grades, but plenty of time to finish your assignments.
This professor is very upfront with what he expects early on in the class. Although he is strict on assignment deadlines he doesn't give a lot of assignments weekly so you should not fall back. And always remember failure is not an option.
Professor Alon is fantastic. He is a clear speaker and understands exactly what he is asking you to learn. Grading criteria is very clear and easy to follow. The class is required for a lot of degrees and is a breeze with Professor Alon. I took the class over the winter mini semester and I had no problems, due dates were very fair.
He was very sweet and nice
I Loved Professor Alon!
This course utilizes video lectures and class discussions which are very easy to follow along. Just make sure you get work done before the deadline and you'll do great!
This class/course was one of the best ones I could've had. Syllabus was crystal clear and hardly had any trouble with the assignments. Work itself was easy to use and simple would recommend this 10/10. Love how is at your own pace (as long as you do the work on time) and you still actually learn
The professor's step-by-step explanations made everything easy to follow. He is a great professor!
He made the class pretty easy and straightforward. I took the 8 week course and there were only 3 quizzes all of which had lecture videos to go with them. There were some discussions using Packback which aren't too time consuming, one assignment, and then a final exam. Plus some extra credit opportunities. Overall pretty painless, would recommend.
Professor Alon was a great professor! I took his 8-week music appreciation course and was not overwhelmed with the work I had to do. His notes are easy to understand, and he covers everything on the tests. The packback discussions are a little difficult, but get easier as you progress through the course.
This was an interesting class. Not too hard.
To me this was a difficult class compared to others
This class is super easy I took the 8 week version online and I work 10 hour days 5 days a week and had no issues completing this class super easy take this class
The assignments of these class are simple to do but Professor Alon is a tough grader. When you do discussions, it is sometimes better to tackle ahead of time on certain topics about music. Since each classmate will have a topic different others. You will have a higher chance of having a unique topic if you get it done early a week or two.
Music Theory IV was a pretty easy class. The curriculum was straightforward, and Dr.Alon could answer and help you out with anything you had trouble with. He's a great professor, and I couldn't have asked for anyone better for my theory courses. Very inspirational!
I've been a student of Professor Alon's for the better part of 2 and a half years, and in my time working with him, I've learned so much in those years that I've been a student. So far, I've been able to pass Music Theory 1 because of him, and hopefully can pass the next set of theory classes going forward.
Dr. Alon is one of the best teachers I've had! He makes sure you under stand the constant and gives opportunities to raise your grade. He keeps class interesting and is available outside of class.
Dr. Alon has proven to be very thorough and understanding. He will follow his criteria to a t and provide so many resources and opportunities for us to look over and practice for absolutely every topic talked about in class. Dr. Alon creates such a comfortable classroom environment for us to work together.
I took Music Theory I thinking I wouldn't get much out of it, but I ended up learning a lot. Professor Alon's lesson plans are straightforward and well-organized, especially for an online class. The pacing wasn't too bad, and he gives really helpful feedback on assignments. Overall, I would definitely take Professor Alon again!
Patient and passionate about his work.
Professor Alon is great at teaching and his class structure is simple. With the 8 week course, there are 7 lessons (on your own time), 4 discussions posts (opinion based), 3 quizzes, and a final exam. His quizzes and exam do not require lockdown browser or webcam, so you do not have to stress about being watched. Would highly recommend this class.
Took his online course, and everything you need to know is clearly stated in the syllabus. He doesn't take late work, but all the assignments are opened at the beginning, so you should be able to finish everything on time. A lot of packback discussions, but they're pretty engaging and I actually enjoyed doing them. Overall easy class!!
Great professor! Has assignments open an ready on first day, only Final is restricted. Clear syllabus and instructions. No textbook required because all lessons are in the course. I took the 3 week minimester which included 7 lessons, 4 packback discussion posts to write 2 answers and 2 responses, 3 quizzes, 1 homework sheet, and the final.
Professor Alan is a great professor who makes taking an online class easy and accessible. In the three week semester there are four discussion post, four quizzes and one homework assignment that are open through the entire course. His slide shows are very clear and helpful to look at before taking the quizzes. I would definitely recommend.
Not that bad of a course, can be challenging if you have zero clue about music, but the lectures or lessons is very informing.Took May mini-minister. 4 quizzes, 4 discussions, 1 music quiz/assignment (label what goes where on a song, chorus, verse, etc.), and final quiz. There is extra credit. Difficulty level for me was a 2.5, plus I do know music.
This class is incredibly easy to manage. He gives you the flexibility to work on the material at your own pace. All assignments are available and open. It's a great option if you prefer a relaxed schedule and want to learn without the pressure of constant class meetings. Highly recommend if you're looking for a low-stress music course!
This course is extremely manageable and well-suited for students who prefer a flexible learning environment. The material is posted at the beginning of the semester, allowing you to work through it all at your own pace. It's an ideal choice if you appreciate a more relaxed schedule and want to engage with the content without a lot of pressure.
