He is fun and has a sense of humor. His tests are really difficult. The work is extenstive and should not be postponed at the least. He's very helpful and will answer questions thoroughly. He's a great teacher and fun to listen to.
Sometimes forgets to come to class.
Great lecture. this is a hard class no matter who you take it from. the department has standardized 100 question tests that are extremely difficult. (this was the only class i did not get an A in last semester) Aaron is a good guy. if you got class and participate, he can bump your grade up three steps. so GO to class!!!!
Tests are hard. Especially the first one. But with all the extra stuff and online quizes, it is easy to get a B or an A.
Hottest professor ever! His laughter lights up the room. The class is hard just because it is a hard subject but he makes it fun and he motivates you a lot.
This is a great professor. As someone else mentioned, this is a very hard subject, and this class is definitely difficult, especially the tests, but you can take the online quizzes twice and use your book, which isn't too bad.
One of the best teachers I have every had! He makes the subject very interesting and helps you understand it. The subject is hard but he is a awesome teacher.
This class was really hard. The professor tries to help you really understand, but doesn't prepare you well for the exams. If you take this class you need to thoroughly study the chapters in the textbook.
Best teacher i've had at UVU. The class is hard regardless of who you take, but Bartholomew has a good grading system that means you can still do well even though the standardized exams are difficult. He make class interesting, is always willing to help and listen to students. Highly recommended.
Great professor. He knows his stuff, great sense of humor. He encourages questions and interaction. I enjoyed every class, he made it interesting. I completely disagree with the person that said he does not prepare you for tests. Quite the contrary. He doesn't write the tests, they are hard no matter who you take.
Bartholomew is very intelligent and very passionate about law and seems to be a very good professor. The ONLY problem I have with the class is that I took INTRO to American Law and every assignment and lecture that was taught was taught as if I should've already known the material. It felt like the 3rd Class in the American Law cycle.
Professor Bartholomew is an awesome professor. He knows the law and makes class interesting every day. Class discussions are great. Do the reading and participate and you should do fine.
This class is a little different now. Since he teaches an honors class, his tests are no longer the same as every other LEGL 3000 class. The quizzes are gimme points, but the tests definitely are not. I feel like his expectation for students is too high on tests based on the fact that most students are docked at least one point on most test answers
Great professor. Enjoyed his lectures very much... But the exams were super tough.. inspired me to rethink test studying strategies for next semester. Engaged learning looks intimidating at first, but got it done quickly, and you can get extra credit from it. Clinical projects can be tough.
AMAZING! I loved this Prof. He is a practicing judge and is able to connect real life to the content you learn about. He is so smart and funny and he really adjusts what we're learning about and doing to fit with the students. Tests are essay questions and are fairly simple. Assignments are reasonable. He is one of my top 3 professors EVER!
he was so amazing
This teacher had conflicting requests on the case study versus his announcements. He initially stated turn in via word or PDF, then 2 days before said only PDF. He was inconsistent. He also only allowed the final to be open for 1 day which was way too short of a time period. All in all prepare yourself for a lot reading and hard tests.
Prof Bartholomew was hard! But it forced me to learn something so I liked it. All tests were essay questions but if you go to class and study you'll be ok. Don't skip class. He was funny and really helpful. He even let me turn stuff in late when my computer was malfunctioning. Engaged learning extra credit saved my grade
He's a great professor and I definitely feel like I gained a good understanding of the subject. I wish he taught more classes because he was great, if tough.
Professor Bartholomew was a fantastic professor and knew everything you could ever want to know about Business Law. As for the structure of the class, Expect 4 Large Essay-Based Tests (8 or 9 questions), One 8 page case study near the end of the class (fairly simple and straightforward), and an Engaged Learning Assignment where you attend court. A+
Textbook and assignments were all through CENGAGE website; sometimes the website would go down, so getting homework done early is a good idea. Professor Bartholomew was extremely helpful and knowledgeable, and the court observation assignments were very interesting learning experiences. Tests are difficult and study guides are not given.
Professor Bartholomew is a very prepared person, his lectures are good and he engages you on the class. There is only quizzes, the engage learning and case study as assignments. However, be ready to do the case study and make sure you study hard for the exams. That is the hard part since they are worth 50% of the total grade and are essay questions
Professor Bartholomew is very passionate and knowledgable about what he teaches. He's got a great personality and keeps class interesting. But he's an extremely tough grader. It's nearly impossible to get high scores (A's) on his exams, which are pretty tough already. He seems to think his curriculum is perfect, so no curves or extra credit either.
The worst thing about Bartholomew is his exams!! Extremely vague on what to study for the exams, it seemed to be the consensus from every student I talked to. Lastly, be prepared to write a TWELVE page paper the final week of class all while studying for the final.
The class organization was awful. He would assign the next unit of homework a couple days before the previous exam was due. Normally I wouldn't have a problem with this except for the fact that would end up having 4+ assignments due that weekend. Tests were extremely difficult and were based on information that wasn't presented in the coursework.
Very knowlegable in law, but man does he give you a lot of homework. The tests are tough. If you just stay on top of all the homework and discussions and do decent on the tests you should get a B no problem.
He is a judge, and acts like one. He thinks his class is perfect, not flexible about homework assignments and unforgiving about late work for any reason. What he says goes. If you take him you need to follow instructions on all assignments to the letter. You will learn quite a bit if you have the time, if you don't have the time take someone else.
It was a really hard class, there were many assignments and the test are really hard.
I took this online I did okay in it. There is a lot of reading so get ready for that. You have to do an engaged learning plan which I did by attending his small claims court which he is the judge. He is a really nice guy and I enjoyed the class. You can succeed in it for what you put in it.
This class was taken online and there is a lot of reading if you want to succeed. The book he has you buy helps somewhat, but the best help is from the PowerPoints and old quizzes. He has discussions online that you have to participate in and he grades them very harshly. They are hard to get a perfect score on.
A lot of homework, but what made it really awful was constantly changing dates, a terrible textbook, and errors in test and quiz questions so you got it wrong even if you got it right (questions were very ambiguous as well). The online class felt like a live class just missing the live portion, making tests very difficult. Doesn't respond to emails
Professor Bartholomew has high expectations - he doesn't take crap work, so don't turn it in! He has extensive knowledge and experience in law. He knows what he's talking about and makes lectures interesting and entertaining. Case studies and projects are intense but valid and you learn a ton!
Did not like this professor. He graded very hard and his tests were difficult. There was so much reading. I know I was taking this class online but it was so much, I couldn't keep up with it and there were so many discussions every week that he graded very hard and never gave feedback.
Absolutely the worst teacher I have ever dealt with. After exam 1, out of 70 students, not a single A and average was 59%. I havent met him personally because I am taking it online but from his syllabus and responses to emails, he seems like the type to take pride in not giving out A's. Dont think that youre the outlier and can succeed in his class
This was by far the toughest class Ive taken and Im a semester from graduating. We had several assignments and quizzes due each week, aside from major projects. The professor gives absolutely no feedback for how he grades so you have no idea how to improve.
Doesn't care at all won't help you with anything and will treat you with distain for asking. Won't help anyone with anything no matter what the circumstances are. Broke your entire lower body? Too bad you fail. Don't take his classes. Typical lawyer
I took the in-person class. I was nervous from reading his reviews, but I enjoyed the class. Professor Bartholomew was easily accessible outside of class hours and was willing to go through your work with you. He was a bit of a tough grader. I did everything I could in the class and still fell a bit short of my expectation. Overall great experience
Aaron took over my class half way through when Howard got sick. Good teacher. Sometimes hard to focus in his lectures though. Graded by a few things hardly any assignments.
Extremely tough grader and doesn't give you any feedback as to why you got the score you did.
This is a tough class, and Aaron is a tough grader. If you are not willing to put in the work, do not take this class from him. On that note, I loved taking this class from him. Keep in mind, he has large classes and teaches several of them. This means he does not give feedback on every assignment. If you want feedback, ask! He will respond.
Took online. Take this class from anyone else but him. Take Carolyn Howard. He grades so harshly, has no mercy for tech or personal issues that prevent you from, provides no good resources to study for tests, makes the tests extremely hard. He's very unforgiving and doesn't care if his students succeed or not. Crazy heavy workload. Awful professor.
The only grades that matter are your dumb discussions. Even when I tested 100% on multiple quizzes, worksheets, etc, it didn't raise my grade ONE PERCENT. But, if you get 6.5/10 on the discussions, your grade goes down. The way he grades is quite ridiculous and is not set up for student success. There's no winning with this professor.
Pretty tough prof. and tough class. There was about 5-7 hours of homework per week. He is in no ways a bad professor, he is just very serious and makes you work for it.
Hands down on the worst business legal professors out there. There is a lot of homework, he is one of those who doesn't "believe" in giving A's. He does not do a good job in communicating either. I asked about 5 different questions and he didn't answer a single one.
Professor Bartholomew has been amazing! I took this class online and he made it so easy and accessible. There are 4 tests, and they are all pretty hard. But if you use the textbook and study you'll do just fine! This professor was always easy to get ahold of and overall just wants success for his students. It was a hard class though, so good luck!
Good source material and instruction but he's the toughest grader I've ever had. Our class average for our final project was 59.93 out of 100. He grades hard simply for the sake of it.
Professor Bartholomew did not have very clear grading criteria. This class did not feel like an entry level business law class. It was very difficult and had a lot of course work. I would recommend a different professor if possible
This class was not difficult if you completed the assignments. There is a large amount of reading, but how else are you going to learn the law. The lectures in this class are required for success. If you come to class prepared to discuss the cases that were assigned you will walk out prepared for the exam. I highly recommend Professor Bartholomew
The class was great, the teacher was great, highly recommend it.
This class was probably one of my favorite classes this semester. There were a lot of papers to write, but they weren't hard. He doesn't grade papers based on grammar, which was nice. He is always willing to help and if you put the work in, he will too. Professor Bartholomew is very knowledgeable about law and does a good job teaching it.
This was a great class, with alot of real world direct applicaiton. This class is not difficult if you do the reading and participate in class. Professor Bartholomew wants to see you succeed and will go out of his way to make sure you have every opprotunity to do just that. I would highly recomend his class.
Professor Bartholomew considers what the students have going on in their lives and adjusts his class to help. There were multiple times he extended due dates in my class to accommodate busy schedules. He's easygoing, friendly, and highly knowledgeable, with tons of real-world experience. Highly recommended! You do have to pay attention to do well.
Don't take him if you can help it. Not willing to help I could have gotten an A if he actually told me what I did wrong on the discussions and papers. He never said why I got lower and I did everything like other kids in the class and they were getting 100 on their discussions. The second half of the semester is so hard. Final papers/projects hard
Professor Bartholomew lays out his expectations, you need to provide good quality work to perform well. If you attend class and listen you should do well on his exams. Even though this class was hard, the information we learned was valuable and his real world experience really helped make the class more enjoyable
Professor Bartholomew is a very fair professor. Everything taught in class was relevant and helpful in regards to knowing for a career. He is willing to be flexible with dates and work schedules if agreed upon by the class. Expect to do readings before class and be willing to participate in class discussions. Lectures are enjoyable.
I loved the lectures that Professor Bartholomew gave. He provides great stories and valuable information you will need for your career/personal life. He is flexible with deadlines (if the whole class agrees) and is always available to help. His tests are hard but as long as you go to class, ask questions, and do the assignments, you'll be fine.
You must be prepared to put in a lot of effort in this class. If you attend class and finish your homework, your exams should go well. I learnt a lot in class, and I appreciated how the teacher used real-world case studies to make the session more interesting.
It is important to attend class and come prepared. The class has more assignments at the beginning of the semester and eases up at the end. Make sure to get started on the engaged learning assignment early.
He does not give any feedback whatsoever to why he grades so harshly. You can work for 2 hours on a discussion board or 5 minutes on it and the grade will still be the same (extremely low). WHY?
You can work 2 hours on a discussion board or 5 minutes, but either way you will receive an awful grade and will NEVER get feedback on it. This class is unbelievably hard for what it is and you will learn nothing about Accounting through it. RIP
Don't understand the hate on this prof. This class is about law and accounting ethics. Both difficult subjects. Took the class online and I thought it was great. Yes, you'll need to work and expect to work. Do the work and you'll be fine. I exchanges loads of messages with him and he responded quickly and gave me feedback when I asked.
Good Professor. You will work HARD in this course but will be rewarded with a lot of knowledge. Get ready to read a lot and have lots of discussions.
If you work hard, this teacher can be easy. He assigns a decent amount of work but nothing you can't handle. He grades pretty fair in my opinion.
Do the work and you'll be fine. If Professor Bartholomew can see you're trying he is a pretty liberal grader.
This is only the 2nd semester that this course is being taught at UVU, but Aaron does a great job with managing the course. He is a timely grader and clear about his expectations for the course work. Just be prepared to do quite a bit of reading between the textbook and reading court cases. It's a lot of work but he is a fair teacher.
The online version of ACC2600 is really solid. Canvas is for the most part well set up. There are lots of resources to help with learning. His videos really help. Quizlet saved me. Getting full credit on written assignments is not easy. The first part of the course (law) is double module and fast and then the second part ethics part is slower.
Professor Bartholomew is a great teacher. This is a tough class, but if you do the readings and learn the case studies, you will do great in the class. He is very responsive to emails and messages and will do what he can to help you succeed. He also offers extra credit and it makes a huge difference in your grade.
Professor Bartholomew was a great professor. He was very responsive to messages, and I felt like he genuinely wanted me to succeed. He is a fair grader and is willing to work with you if you ask. The class is pretty difficult, but you will learn a lot. He has good lectures and provides helpful resources. Work hard and you will do good in his class.
LEARNED TONS in this class. A fair amount of work, but it's easy to follow along with what needs to be done and how to do it. He responded quickly to every message I sent him and was flexible and helpful when I was having trouble. At the end of the semester, he threw out our lowest scores on our regular homework and that helped a ton.
This class is very law and case study based and requires a TON of reading and critical analysis, along with class participation and discussion. However, the lectures were enjoyable and the professor has a great sense of humor. Although this course is difficult, the professor is very understanding and willing to help students.
Tough grader, never gave feedback. Expected full essays for discussions. I never watched lectures bc the book did a good job explaining and lectures mostly repeated content. There were two modules w/ multiple quizzes due each week. Exams are proctored, closed note. Last month is all 1 pg papers + one 6 pg single spaced final project. Learned a lot.
I wish I could have taken his in person class because he seems like a great instructor, but they were all full. I had to take his online canvas course and it was more difficult than I anticipated. He's a pretty stiff grader, but is what it is. I would hop on the in-person course asap, you will have a better learning experience.
I dropped this class because I took it online and it was honestly so hard. I am a straight A student, but this class just has so many tests, assignments, discussions, etc that learning the material was near to impossible online. Would not recommend taking it online, but would consider it again if it was in person with this professor.
This class was GREAT! Yes, be ready to actually do work--we are in school, after all, and nothing worthwhile comes easy. But the content and layout of the class were exceptional. Great mix of lecture and stories (cases). I got an A, and I worked for it, but if you actually do the work, it's really not that hard to do well. Highly recommend.
He is very fair in his grading and lectures were well thought out. He allowed for a lot of student input. Overall it was a great class.
This class is really hard but the information you're learning is important to know. Get past the first eight weeks and the work load lightens. He's a good professor the class itself is just tough, but it's doable!
I loved Aaron. There was a ton of reading but I found it worth it as it did help. You will need to use your time wisely in this class, but you will understand the law better when you get through the class. He makes it enjoyable and is very willing to answer any and all questions.
I had so much fun in Professor Bartholomew's class! He is so funny and relaxed. The class overall is tougher, but is VERY doable. If you put in the work, YOU WILL BE FINE! Don't stress. He is very willing to answer any questions. My recommendation is to review the power point slides and then skim the reading. You won't regret taking his class.
He won't have you do anything that doesn't add value to you as an accountant. If you are looking for an easy A this probably isn't it-although if you put in the work an A is easily attainable. If you are looking to add value as an accounting or even as a business minded individual he is a must. Willing to go beyond the norm to help when needed.
This class was very well designed for an online setting, which is what is most important to me as a nontraditional student. The class was about a complicated subject, so expect to feel challenged. I received a fair grade and I got what I put into the class. I only spent more than the allotted 9 hours a week when I wanted to get extra credit.
I took this class during busy season while working 65 hours a week. This class takes a lot of time. He doesn't provide feedback on assignments, but you can email him to request feedback. He's very passionate about law and the classes were engaging. The exams were 3+ hours of written responses. There is a presentation, but you can pre-record it.
Prof. Bartholomew cared very much about your well-being. If you were struggling, you could reach out to him and he would find ways to help you. You get extra credit on every class discussion if you are thorough in your responses. It was a textbook heavy class with a lot of papers, but if you put in the work, you'll do just fine!
It didn't matter if I spent hours or minutes on required group discussions, he would deduct points. He never gave feedback to why he would deduct points. Get ready to read for homework and the on-going project for the semester. I wish I could go back and take the law class because I learned nothing in this class except for what I taught myself.
Professor Bartholomew's courses are designed for student engagement. Complete the assigned readings before class. He uses real-world examples during his lectures, helping students see the actual application of the information they're learning. Do the Engaged Learning Assignment early; the last third of the semester is writing intensive.
This class was good! You do a semester project where you can watch law movies, read law books, or listen to court cases to help you understand more about the law. The tests are free response questions, but the more you write the better score you will get. You do presentations on CPA liability at the end of the semester individually.
In my 3 years at UVU - WORST TEACHER EVER! Syllabus: "at least 9+ hrs of hw a week". The first half of the semester is a lot more. I was diligent & spent 10+ hours many weeks. Discussions are harshly graded. He seems to want to help but does not make it easy. It's rotten to have 90+ pages of reading a week, 3-5 discussions & 5 knit-picky quizzes.
Difficult class, but fair with many opportunities for extra credit. Very engaging and clearly invested in student success.
This was probably the most useful class that I took in the MAcc. As a consultant for small businesses and in my own side businesses, I've found that Prof Bartholomew knows exactly what to teach to make the class as applicable as possible to an accountant. He challenged us, and I didn't love it in the moment, but this class was vital! Must take!
Aaron may be a tough grader, but he is a wonderful and personable in-person professor. He made every class interesting and created a good balance between lecture and group work. Class always lasted just as long as it had to, and it flew by. I would highly recommend him and his business law class.
This class was a good amount of work, but it was very manageable. The class was incredibly interesting, and Aaron did a great job of teaching the difficult material. I always knew exactly what to expect on assignments and exams. The material is very applicable to the REG section of the CPA exam, and is definitely worth taking.
This class was online and the amount of hours needed for an online class is insane. I wouldn't recommend taking this class, as he isn't the easiest grader, and if you want not to spend 10+ hours a week on it.
Prof Bartholomew demands alot of his students. He frontloaded the course, so the first 2 months or so were incredibly busy. Can feel like you are trying to read his mind at times, so that gets annoying. Participate in class and request feedback if you need it and he will help you. This course was probably the most beneficial I have taken in school.
Professor Bartholomew is just amazing! If you show up to class, participate, and show him that you care, he will do what he can to help you in the class. I did not do well on the exams but when the ethics papers came in the second half of the semester, the prof. was always willing to help me improve my papers. Just reach out and he will help!
This was a tougher class, and I didn't love writing the papers but there were many valuable concepts about law. Professor Bartholomew provides tons of resources, so you'll be able to understand concepts if you put in the work. This was an online class, but he checked in a lot and provided plenty of extra credit opportunities.
Professor Bartholomew has been one of my favorite professors! He checked in on our class throughout the semester, which is rare as an online student. (Class discussions, assigned readings, and papers) I learned a lot from this class thanks to his video lectures and it was clear that he's had real world experience. Great options for the EL project!
First half of the semester is time intensive and had very difficult tests but only ethics papers the second half. When I did reach out to the professor for feedback, he was quick to reply and help. One of my hardest/most time-intensive classes but well laid out for online format and a helpful professor/resources for those who put in the work.
I took ACC 2600 in the undergraduate and now 6600 in the MAcc. I honestly think Professor Bartholomew is one of the best professors in the WSB. While his classes cover a lot of material, they help you think in new ways and teach more practical knowledge than any other classes. If you want to be prepared in business, take Professor Bartholomew!
Be prepared to work hard if you want a good grade. Aaron expects a lot, but I wouldn't have it any other way. His course was meaningful and one of my favorites this semester. You have to approach him for feedback, but he's pretty good at responding. He also offers a couple of extra credit opportunities, so take advantage of those.
Professor Bartholomew is an awesome teacher!!! I enjoyed his lectures and I felt like I walked away from this class with very applicable information. I learned how to set up a business, help prevent lawsuits, and more about contract law. This class was hard work, but so rewarding. I highly recommend this class and also Professor Bartholomew.
Prof. Bartholomew is very knowledgeable and passionate. This course is lecture-heavy, with a demanding workload in the first half, but the content is highly practical and valuable. There are plenty of extra credit opportunities to boost your grade if you stay engaged. It's a challenging yet rewarding class for those willing to put in the effort.
He is an excellent teacher. His real-world experience and professional knowledge are unmatched. The current event application this class offers made it even more interesting. This class was absolutely demanding but incredibly rewarding if you worked hard. He was always available and loved to help us succeed in all aspects of the course.
Awesome class! Just do the work and don't take shortcuts! You will end the class with a great grade and much smarter. Our in class discussions were awesome. Would recommend 10/10,
This was a hard class, but also a great one. I'm not one who is good with a ton of reading based learning so I had to work hard in this class. He is a tough grader but I personally loved this because I was able to genuinely improve and actually earn a 97 on my final paper. He also also very understanding and available for help!
This is a great class with a great teacher. Professor Bartholomew is a really good guy and does an excellent job teaching the subject. This class can also be quite challenging and you should expect to spend about 10-15 hours on average per week completing coursework and studying if you want to do well in this class.
This is a difficult class that pays off if you really lock in. You can do it!
Do not take this class online. There were 3-5 quizzes /week based on the textbook, but not proctored or timed. However, there was a chapter of a textbook, multiple court cases, and more readings assigned each week which would take hours to do. You get blindsided for the tests because the questions are extremely niche and not covered in the quizzes.
I think a lot of these reviewers are just not trying. Yes, the course is heavy. But if you actually try, you'll do great. Spend and hour doing the discussion boards--be thorough and you'll get 100%. You can tell who spent 5 minutes vs. 60. He is a great teacher who cares. For the average UVU student, this class is hard. Just put in some effort.
This class was one of the most difficult classes I've taken at UVU. Thankfully, Prof. Bart warns you at the beginning semester that it's difficult. There's a lot of reading, and you write a lot of papers, I learned a ton from this class. Prof. Bart is also more than willing to help you succeed. However, I wish I had taken it in person.
Tricky course to rate. On one hand it gets a bad rap. The weekly quizzes are not proctored *wink* and you guys know you don't have to read every word assigned by a professor to get an A right? On the other hand the grading rubric on the written assignments seems unlearnable and based on Aaron's whim. Also the study guides leave a lot to be desired.
