Excellent professor. Very clear, personable, friendly. Good stories and examples. Three tests, all fairly general info, not too specific. Group project. Book is helpful, but not absolutely necessary. Thoroughly enjoyed Cargile and would take him again.
He always uses the phrase, "the distance and distance between us." He is intelligent and passionate about the subject matter. He wants students to change their attitudes and behaviors. His tests are very challenging. I got C's and studied and never missed a class.
Very good professor! His lectures are interesting and the discussion boards online are also intriguing. Tests difficult if you don't study for them. Lots of extra credit opportunity and attendance points if you want to, will definitely take him again.
I rated helpfulness/clarity 3 because I never went to class except for test days. He now offers an option to do that. I got an A in the class without spending a single day there, but you have to read the book and study. Still, you have to do that to get an A whether you go to class or not. Some people thought the tests were hard, I didn't
I got an A without ever going to class once besides the tests. To do that, you have to read the book and study off the study guide, but it's not that hard, he tells you exactly what to study. Some of the class presents faulty stats. If that annoys you, don't got and just get the easy A
Exellent Professor. Interesting class. My only complaint is that the reader was a waste of almost $100 bucks because it wasn't really implemented in the lectures.
Professor Cargile make the class interesting. His assignments are useful for students to understand the concept. His tests are not difficult as long as students listen to his lectures and everything on the tests are listed clearly on the online lecture and he explains it on review sections.
Interesting topic. Cargile was okay. I found the lectures tedious however. The tests were quite difficuly and required alot of studying for my B.
He is a very straightforward professor. Very CLEAR about what he wants regarding the exams and papers. You must study for the exams to do well. He is also very LENIANT and HELPFUL. Although the lectures can be tedious, they are short and to the point. I would take him AGAIN
I don't understand how any one can say he is difficult. He is very engaging and one of the best instuctors I have ever had. He posts all of his lectures online and he gives very detailed study guides. If you have problems with the class, it's all on you, he does everything he can to make it easy, including a nice curve and plenty of extra credit.
His approach to teaching this multicultural class is very helpful to opening up communication about a subject that some people feel is taboo. Definitely take this class if you can, it will definitely open up your eyes.
Aaron is awesome. He is so smart, funny and interesting. At the same time he understands we all are adults and have obligations so he's generous with attendance. All he cares about is teaching students and enlightening them. Make sure you do all the rading tho, it makes studying for the exams a lot easier.
He is definetly one of my favorite teachers. His lectures are super fun and interresting. He is very helpfull and cares a lot about you learning the material. I defenitely recommend him to everyone!
Nobody can teach this class better SO WORTH coming to class! He uses the BEST techniques in teaching this stuff back to students thru dave chappelle clips and more!!! AWESOME!
He is an amazing teacher! I wasn't expecting much out of the class going into it. I thought it was going to be like other communications classes I've taken, but it's not. It's not necessary to attend class, he gives you an option, but I would go. I thought I was an open minded person before, but his class showed me more...
AMAZING WONDERFUL FANTASTIC PROFESSOR! 1 of the best professers in the Comm dept...this class was an extreme eye opener, Mr Cargile taught this class in a way that relates to our everyday life & no1 can do it better. I will always cherish this class as a great expierience @ CSULB & i will carry what ive learned throughot life! Lots of Extra Credt!
His tests are basic. However, I find his lectures to be a little boring. I also tend to find that in teaching the information he definitely has a bias against whites.
He makes the class seem really interesting the first day of class but his lectures are really boring. The same five people talk every class. Test are somewhat hard, it is all memorization. Journals and group discussion help towards grade.
Excellent professor. He's clear, he's helpful, he can be funny at times, and his lectures are extremely helpful for the tests. I suggest taking any class by him. He is absolutely wonderful, and in my opinion, he's easy. I have no idea why anyone would say he's "hard".
I waited until I had him for 2 classes to comment on his teachings. By far; the best teacher at CSULB. He is so smart and wise about his subject & really makes you gain insight and learn. Hes always there if you need him & although a lot effort is needed for an A, it's so worth it. He is the kindest teacher here! And attendance is not mandatory for
I love this professor!! If I could I would take all my comm classes with him. He explained theories in realy broken down simple terms compared to the book. But you do have to read the book to get a general idea. He provides insight which is great if you enjoy food for thought. He is really nice too. I would take him if you have the chance.
He o.k.
He better than o.k.
HEAVY workload but man can he teach! Extremely good looking and a wealth of knowledge. 2nd class I've taken with Dr. Cargile and he's still by far one of the best. His style of teaching is unique and this class was a real eye opener.
Ambivalent subject, EXCELLENT professor. Attendance not necessary but be aware, Dr. Cargile has an extremely keen sense of memory. He takes role the first week and I guarantee he'll know your name and face by the second week. He recognizes active AND inactive students.
He's a great professor, very knowledgeable and keeps class interesting & fun. Highly recommended for any class. READ THE BOOK, because the tests are hard, & most of the material is from the books. He does offer a lot of extra credit though! Attendance is mandatory.
He is sooooo cute & smart! Fun class!
My bad, it's COMM 330 not 309!
What makes Cargile so great is that he genuinely cares about what he teaches (more than you can say for some comm teachers). He really wants you to come out of class with something other than just 3 extra units. He sometimes goes a little fast through the power points but everything is on beachboard anyway.
He is just so smart, funny & cute! I'm in love with him!
He's probably my favorite comm teacher. His lectures are pretty interesting because he uses fun examples. He's not an easy A but he's an easy grader. He's really nice and usually gives you a good grade for trying. I've taken him for 3 classes now - HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
He is one of the best professors at CSULB!!!! He really knows the material and makes it soo interesting. I usually fall asleep in class, but I never fell asleep in his class b/c he is so interesting and smart. He is also soo hott and I'm in love. BEST PROFESSOR EVER! Take him if you want to be educated and get a good grade at the same time!
Amazing teacher.. Very smart and cares about his students. Offers extra credit but really helps you understand the material.. Best teacher on campus
This professor is SO helpful. Take the time to ask him questions you don't understand and he will sit there and explain it to you. He's so cool. Attendance wasn't mandatory--I went to every class WILLING! =) Lectures are fun, slideshows are up-to-date, not boring at all. He's very clear about what he wants. Just study lecture notes for tests
Prof Cargile is one of the greatest professors at csulb. take him! he is so funny and keeps you interested the whole time. he really cares about his students and is so smart! class is not mandatory but i went every time!! awesome professor.
Cargile is so wonderful. He takes time to learn your name, sees you as a person, and is so organized with his lectures and powerpoints. He always double-checks to make sure the class understands what he is talking about. I HIGHLY recommend him, especially for classes that are usually dry, like COMM 306 or 307.
Cargile's a great prof & this class expands on 330. You have to make a podcast, it takes a lot of work but it's interesting & fun! This class is worth taking. If you don't like discussion then avoid this class - it's heavily discussion/participation based!
I love Dr. Cargile! He's really smart and extremely helpful! He welcomes questions and discussion questions during class and office hours. Definitely take his classes for a great learning experience!
Took Cargile for both 330 and 430. His test aren't that easy, I would say easy B cuz there is usually a lot of information. Other stuff is easy and he offers a lot of extra Credit. Take Cargile FOR SURE!
He is SO AWESOME!!!!!!! Def the best class i ever took @ csulb! He is ingaging & makes course material relavent to day to day life! I learned so much from him-DEF TAKE HIM!!! Tests are a bit difficult but everything else is easy!
I TOOK A.C. WHEN HE FIRST CAME TO CSULB. AWESOME HUMAN BEING I WANT TO THANK HIM FOR BEING A GUEST SPEAKER IN DR. RICH'S INTERCULTURAL COMM CLASS. YOU GOTTA LOVE HIM THANK YOU
Awesome teacher, Awesome class! Cargile is not only an AMAZING teacher but a genuine guy too! I would recommended this class to anyone.
It's pretty easy to get a B as long as you do the extra credit. I didnt really take advantage of it, & ended up with a C. If i would have taken advantage of it sooner and not procrastinated, I would have least got a B,so DO THEM ALL!!and attendance is mandatory, and dont turn in group discussions even a minute late or credit wont be given.
Great professor but extremely stupid class. Did not learn s single thing. But if you read Cargile's published articles, you will find out that he is a genius.
This was like my favorite class this semester. Cargile is really funny and very genuine. He's also really good at teaching. He gives clear examples to support whatever he's teaching; just very helpful overall. His test are really hard if you don't study so READ THE BOOK and study hardy. I recommend him!!
By far the best Comm Professor at CSULB. Dr. Cargile actually cares about you understanding the material so he explains it in a way that is easy to grasp. His powerpoints are not boring at all. Really cares about students. Attendance isn't mandatory but you won't want to miss his class anyway. I got an A. Take him!!! You will be happy you did.
Great instructor that shows concise details in his powerpoints.I'm not in the communication dept (MPA), however, I am coming out the class with a great deal of knowledge involving autoethnography and ethnography. Just a lot of readings and beachboard postings! I figure with studying a bit harder you can get an "A".
Stay on top of the discussion questions, easy points. Also do the extra credit, I wouldn't have gotten an A if it weren't for it!!! Tests are a little hard if you don't buy the books/do the readings so I'd recommend to get the book. overall easy and nice professor
I took this class as a requirement for my business degree. So from my standpoint, this professor is the best professor at this school. He is super smart, clear, and he cares sooooo very much about his students that I would re-take this class with him again. I attended every single one, didn't even read the book (only took great notes)and I got a A.
AWESOME CLASS! He is an amazing teacher who strongly beleives in a sense of community. The option to pass this class is ridic. He wants you to do well. There is no homework aside from reading the textbook and online videos and beachboard group discussions, which you get credit for! Three tests throughout the semester and he provides study guide.
Professor Cargile is the most amazing professor to take Communication 330 with. He makes you think in ways that you never thought you would. Awesome professor a must take!
The best class I have taken within the COMM department. Do the extra credit! Its fun easy and it can completely change your grade in the class
he was a good teacher and the class was easy to pass as long as you showed up because attendance was mandatory . if you do all you work in the class and extra credit it you ll get an A
take him for comm 330. he makes you see things in a different way at the end of the semester. I enjoyed listening to his lectures. he also brings cookies from time to time. he is a real nice guy and tries to get to know everyone. take advantage of what he has to offer
Dr. Cargile, in my opinion, is the best professor in the comm studies department. This shouldn't be a comm class, it's a life class. I strongly believe the world would be a better off if this class was mandatory for everyone on earth. It was truly eye-opening AND it brought me to tears. It opened my heart and mind and I took away so much.
Dr. Cargile never fails to amaze me with his kindness. He tries to learn students' names and get to know each of us personally. The class material for each test is quite a lot, but still doable. Highly recommend the professor, take him if you have a chance to!
I took Dr. Cargile for twice for 306 and 330. One of my best choices while being at CSULB. Dr. Cargile genuinely cares for his students and wants them to understand the material of his class. Very relaxed and chill professor, but he is hilarious as hell sometimes. The work load isn't crazy, if you do the minimal you can get a B at least! Take Him!
Communication Theory is a boring class, but Cargile makes the course fun and he really cares about his students. The research paper may seem like a lot of work, but he breaks it down throughout the semester. He's a great professor and is very sweet. He baked us cookies!
Do yourself a favor and take this professor! Cargile is amazing. He is kind, knowledgable, and hilarious. At times the class is a bit boring but he overall brilliant personality makes up for it. The exams are easy as long as you read and watch the assigned material. I highly recommend!
Really nice! Funny in a nerdy kind of way and grades fairly. He cares about his students which is admirable and is there for you if you need more clarity. I would take him again!
He truly cares about his students and WILL learn your name. Tons and tons of extra credit. Gives 2 options: come to class and do work and tests, or only only come to class to take tests (fullbasic participation). His study guides tell you literally exactly what's going to be on the tests. Super easy A or B.
One of the best professors at CSULB. I took him Spring 2014. He really cares about his students. He opens up your eyes to the world and helps you to not be afraid to question the status quo. Need an iClicker. Tests are somewhat difficult if you don't have the book. Doesn't really go over book in lecture, only really need it for tests. Gives E.C.
Professor Cargile is amazing and I highly recommend him! He makes the material so interesting and this class has changed me as a person. He is very clear about what he expects from students. Not super difficult if you listen. I'd recommend taking the "full participation" option.
I can't say enough nice things about this professor. He has touched so many lives and it's clear that he helps and changes students for the better. At first hated that I chose to be in full participation, but as the time went on I was really glad to be in it. He doesn't just teach you about school, he teaches you about life. Really great man.
Such a kind soul and truly caring teacher. Really teaches you about the world around you & how to be a better person. Very interesting, interactive, and fun. You are assigned discussion groups. 3 exams, journal due at end of semester, discussion posts. He is really a great person, go to his office hours!
He's such a sweetie pie! By far, my favorite prof. His class is 3 MC exams, some simple online quizzes, homework to prepare you for the math portion of the class, and a final project. If youre confused, reach out and he is so helpful! The exams trip people up but go over the study guide (if people did badly he curves) Only prof. I'd take for 307.
He truly cares about his students. Not an easy class but he is extremely helpful, so if you're confused just talk to him and he will help you out without making you feel dumb. There are 3 exams, online quizzes and one project.
Take him, it's a no brain-er. His lectures are very eye opening. 3 exams, some journals due the last day of class, and some group discussion posts. He offers extra credit throughout. he cries a lot.
Dr. Carglie is an amazing professor. If it was not for him would have not got through Comm 307. The main factor in your grade is the three test. The second test will involve Math. Carlglie Carlglie was one my favorite professors during my time at CSULB. This guy really helped me understand social science research methods.
Cargile is a very well known, smart, and respected professor on CSULB campus. He definitely knows what hes talking about during lecture, but it can be a bit complex. You will learn in this class! Take him! He will help you if you need extra assistance.
One of the best professors I've ever had. I've never been in a class with a professor who care's so much about his students. Workload is doable and his exams were pretty easy as long as you studied for them. I wish he taught more comm classes because I'd take him again.
Professor Cargile is a wonderful professor! He is extremely knowledgeable and he cares for his students. However, he will make you work for an A in this class. With that being said, papers and exams are difficult. Attendance is not mandatory, but is recommended to get a better understanding of the theories. Easy B class.
Cargile is the BEST comm teacher ever! The material he teaches is on the difficult side, but he always gives great feedback as well as helps you better understand the material. He is a sweet professor! TAKE HIM IF YOU CAN YOU WON'T REGRET!
Cargile is amazing teacher he is very easy to approach and is always willing to help the courses he teaches are on the harder side of classes but he makes the material easy to understand. I've taken 2 classes with him and I hope to take more
Dr. Cargile is an amazing person. He genuinely cares about his students. His lectures are always great and he offers a ton of extra credit. His tests are a little difficult but if you study then you should be good. He makes you question your own thoughts and gives light to new perspectives. No papers, just discussion posts. I highly recommend him.
A genuine person who cares. Took course during summer: (3 in class exams, online chapter quizzes, two writing assignments + online discussion responses). Textbook written by Dr. Cargile; nice read. Tests are very dependent on student knowing theories inside and out! You Tube video lectures by Dr. Cargile also available. Recommended!
Dr. Cargile is unlike any professor I've taken before. If you can take him for 330, DO IT. It's more than just a class for credit, it will change your perspectives and keep you open to new experiences. He cares so much, by the end of the semester you will love him as much as he loves you.
I really like him as a person his kind & helpful some of the parpers and assignments are hard to understand his exactly what his instructions are saying hard to follow, but his friendly kind and will work with you if you ask for help
he's very nice and cares about his teaching. weekly discussions and quizzes that you can find on quizlet, otherwise i would've failed them. midterm and final were really hard you have to show up and pay attention to notes and lecture and study hard. He curves slightly but better to study. interesting class a lot to absorb
This was my first time taking Dr. Cargile for COMM 306. It was definitely a challenging course and some of the topics were confusing to fully understand. He is a very respected Professor and will help you with the terms / topics when you need him. He is always available during office hours and even offers extra credit! Good choice for Comm 306/307.
Great class !! If you have the chance to take him you wont regret it he will challenge you but it is worth it and you will become a better student. Do not be nervous he is one of the best teachers in the department
Lots of extra credit, 3 exams 40 pts each curved. Text book questions on exams -"according to text, what is..." Cargile memorized names by week 2! Group quizes - answers are already posted on BB. Large stats assignment due at the end.
Quizzes every week, 3 exams, group project, a few discussion post throughout the semester. He post his slides up which is helpful when studying
Dr. Cargile is a great professor! He genuinely cares about your grade especially during these tough times. Gives out a lot of extra credit!
Dr. Cargile is by far the dopest, most kindest soul that has walked this planet (not even joking). His superpowers are vulnerability and love! His lectures are interesting and class was interactive, cried plenty of times. The class, itself isn't tough, just do the readings & partake in the extra credit!
FALL 2020 Zoom: Full Participation: 3 exams, discussion boards, journal, attendance, tons of EC! Dr. Cargile has a full heart and truly loves his students. Requires camera to be on for attendance points. He offers a basic participation option where you don't need to show up or do the journal. The only negative is break-out rooms during class.
The sweetest most genuine human you'll ever meet. I would highly highly recommend this course and professor. You have about 7 meditation practice logs, a midterm, and a final. You also get points for attendance, but this class is so enjoyable, you'll want to attend.
If you do not like proctor online test, then do not take this teacher. Do yourself a favor and take other teacher more easier than him like dawn Kelsey.
Cannot even begin to explain what a life-changing effect this course and this professor has had on my life. This is an easy yet difficult course. Easy class content yet difficult because it forces you to face up to your internal struggles. Cargile takes you on a journey in his class, far beyond what any professor would take you on. Simply amazing
Sweet and caring professor! I learned sooo much from his class. His lectures were heavy at times in the sense that he talks about difficult topics but also creates a space for voices. His exams are a little hard, I would recommend to do the readings n take detailed notes on his lectures, you'll be fine if you do that! Life changing class, take it!
Cargile is an amazing professor. He makes his classroom feel like a very comfortable and safe space. He is one of the most passionate professors I've ever had and I can tell her really enjoys what he teaches.
The class wasn't very hard I just found it very boring. A few discussion boards, 3 tests I believe, a few quizzes which are open note/textbook, and an easy group project. The test uses a lockdown browser with the camera. Nothing wrong with the class I just wouldn't take it again.
If you need to take a comm 330 course you should definitely take him! He offers lots of extra credit which can help you boost your grade at the end of the semester! This course has 3 exams (in person or online using lockdown with camera). We did weekly group discussions & journals and overall his class was amazing and so inspirational!
Cargile is literally the best professor. Easy class, and the skills learned are helpful when learning how to be vulnerable and regulate yourself. He is very understanding and offers extra credit. Attendance is mandatory, but some of the classes are online, so you can do the class online that day. Overall amazing human being.
Cargile is an amazing person and makes the content of this class applicable to the real world. HOWEVER, do NOT be fooled by the name of this class -- it is A LOT of work. He offered in person or async and I chose the latter. Watch lectures for attendance points w/ some other HW. Meditation logs are easy but meticulous & exams are difficult.
Prof Cargile's teachings are life-changing. Kind, caring, uplifting, organized. Midterm, final, 7 practice meditation logs, attendance. My advice is to keep up with the coursework, do the study guides, and be present. readings can be long, skim & get the main idea. test can be a bit tricky. You get what you put into the course!
I am in his 443/330 class. I think that outside of classes Professor Cargile is a really awesome guy, but his lectures don't really teach me anything and his tests are way too hard. Applied knowledge and nothing he teaches in class. He was confused by our class getting such a low average when we literally held hands to light up a bulb in classtime
Really helpful on all assignments. Dont like that his assignments are worth so little points and the exams are worth a lot of points, but you should get A's on all assignments, they're easy. The papers are easy except the first part. You have to research and find articles, then do your own analysis. Exams are difficult, but they're weighted.
Professor Cargile's COMM443 class is a transformative experience. The workload is manageable, and the content is applicable to real life. Utilizing Unstuckstudy alongside the course materials can be a game-changer for study prep. Highly recommended for personal growth!
He is a cool/fair professor. My only issue with the class is the exams. A lot of the exams are based on supplemental material which is frustrating considering we learn A LOT during the lectures. Final brought my grade down to after having a high B all semester. Two 40q exams. Attendance taken every day. meditation logs are time consuming STARTEARLY
