Cool professor, extremely nice but the course is diffcult. His tests are harder than the practice exams for the final but he'll offer extra credit.
Its not his fault that the department has lots of bs regulations to make the class harder although he does give lots of work it is for your own benefit. Hes very nice, funny, and he cares that his students do well. Hes there to help you if you tell him to teach class slower he will. Great professor considering the rest of the department take him
He is the best math teacher I've ever seen. I was not good at math when I was in High school and felt very nervous when I was required to take MTH2003. But he brought me the huge confidence to math and I got an A eventually even though the class was not easy to every one. He teaches clearly and remains patient. He cares about students feedback.
Prof Converse is an unbelievable professor!! He is the MOST helpful man, devoting HOURS each week to his students outside of class!! He assigns homework and webwork and goes over our q's in class. There are so few profs like him, he is SO patient and SO kind. He really genuinely wants his students to do well, and makes himself SO available for help
One of the best math professors ever. He teaches with passion and he actually makes math easier for all of us. He has a ton of patience and is always willing to devote his time for this students to get better. He is available online and answers questions as soon as possible when you need help and he is always there if you need extra help in class.
He is the best Prof. I ever had. If you want to learn Math Take him please. He is very helpful. He even gives you extra time after class.Highly recommended, take him.
This has got to be the best professor EVER!! I hated math before this class, but the way he explains things clearely and patiantely is simply amazing!! He cares about his students incredibly and invests a whole lot of his free (unpaid for) time!! when does that ever happend?? take his class seriously, do the homework and u will do great on the fina
He is simply the best... i used to hate calculus but he made this boring sub a fun !!!!!!! i simply love his way of teaching, he is extremely friendly and know how to teach "calculus" in "friendly and lively atmosphere"!!! u r lucky if u have him,as cal prof!
He is the best math teacher you could imagine!
Probably the best professor there is. Soooo helpful, patient, friendly and great for freshmens that are in the process of "getting use to college".
HARD PROFESSOR! Keep you on your toes. Mandatory attendance, homework and quizzes every class. Really good and Helps you in every way possible. However, you have to work hard. Not an easy class. Hard to get a grade of B or higher. Take another professor for an easier grade.
If you want to FAIL take this professor.Nuff said.I think that those comments beneath mine he posted himself.Really bad professor.
bad proffessor. i would have with some other professor. gradin policy is ridiculous.
Extremely difficult. Quiz every class, mandatory textbook and webwork homework, 3 tests & final. No curves. Explanations are good but he doesn't do enough examples. Adds bible psalms with emails and chews obnoxiously on bagels when you're taking quizzes.
The best math professor at baruch.Makes math interesting and enlightening. He is one of the reason I made math my minor. He keeps you accountable with the work he gives, you will thank him when final comes, youd be able to figure out hard problems because you will understand everything you need to know=))
TERRIBLE TERRIBLE, AVOIID AVOID AVOID!!!!!
Strict Professor. Quiz in every class, hw & attendance mandatory, no extra credit, never curves test. Doesn't do enough example problems. The 3 in-class tests were 5x harder than the final. Words questions on tests in a tricky way which I find useless because questions on the final were just asked straight forwardly. NOT AN EASY CLASS!
He is extremely difficult, unsympathetic, and moves so fast. His tests are crazy hard, all trick questions. Very discouraging, offers to help but doesn't put the effort in. He doesn't really care what you have to say, he won't change anything in his ridiculous expectations, doesn't even curve. & gives SO MUCH HW.
Really good professor. graded Quizzes and graded homework every class. Explains everything in detail. Friendly and helpful. The class is not an easy A. Have to work hard. Does not curve. Move on if you want an easy professor
If you're not good at math, you should not take this professor. He gets impatient. This is not an easy class and he does not make it any easier for you, nor does he care to. He just does not care what your problem is.
I really think he gives himself these good ratings because he's an OKAY teacher to put it kindly. In my opinion, he does not care about his students or whether they pass or not. He basically makes sure to emphasize that you are not his problem.
I agree with some of the comments below. He requires a lot.Quizzes every class, you must be on time and homework every other night not to mention Webworks which is due on certain dates which he does not open back up.He teaches really quickly because he wants to cover all the material in the course.
Wasteeeee of time! Way too much hw, quizzes every class, loads of webwork. Very unsympathetic, does not offer any extra credit, tests are all stupid trick questions. Unless you love math and can stand his annoying jokes, dont take him. He does not make the class easy for you at all. And he gives out those stupid scoobi snacks...
Ppl dont get it.It's the math dept. that makes the final and this class fairly hard.Had prof for pre cal n calc. The HW and webwork really isn't that much compared to other class. If you keep up with them they teach u the material. The quizes are mostly easy and quick. Do the HW ace the quizes! only prob is that they r at the very beginin so
(cont) don't be late!! There are enuff quizes/hws/webworks to miss one or two or do poorly and still not hurt ur grade. Plus he drops 2 hws 2 quizes and lowers the webwork. No extra credit comment is a lie! If you catch his mistakes he gives scoopies worth a quarter towards your grade. They add up! And he gives 10 points on grade for test
(cont again) corrections. He does go fast but he has to.Tests are harder.Couple tricky probs but doable!Def a fair teacher.Grade: 10% hw, 10% web, 10% quizes, 3 tests your lowest 10% and 2 highest each worth 15%,final 30%. For those who left bad comment stop ya b*tchin n man up.If you suk at math leave Baruch.Take this prof if you grasp math easily!
A great way to spend your summer is taking calc instead of relaxing on the beach(yeah right) I suck at math and I know I will fail the final, Baruch policy: fail the final, fail the class. I was in my 20s when I took my last math class, so no wonder why I had such a rough time. Great professor, horrible subject. College algebra is essential to pass
great guy, gives notes on blackboard so u can have a better understanding even with all the examples in class.... attendance is a must he gives quizzes every class.... dont be late cos those quizzes count. if its ur 2nd time u must take him cos he will make u understand but he is such a hard grader... if ur lazy better dont waste ur time
Great professor...very helpful and always willing to explain things over again if not understood.Tough grader but if you do the work and apply yourself you'll succeed. Readily available for questions outside of class and reviews material and questions students have 15 minutes before class starts. Definitely take him if you want to pass AND learn!
Great Professor. Very fair and very helpful, no one left behind. He gives a lot of home work and quizes almost every day but it is necessary in order to pass final. I got an A, but I put a lot of time and effort to achieve it.
If math is not your thing, please run. There's nothing wrong with his teaching style, he's just quick. His exams are hard and he likes to throw in at least one hair ripping question. Overall, I would take him again once I'm ready for real commitment.
Extremely helpful. He teaches you everything step by step. Give quizzes every class, but it's really helpful. Just use the quizzes to help you study for the test. He's picky on how he wants the answers. Overall, take him if math is your strength
Be ready to work! He gives homework everyday. Also quiz in every class. 3 in class exams plus the final. Lots of webwork! All that helps you to ace the final!! He works very hard to make sure everyone understands everything! He is an amazing professor, extremely helpful and def wants his students to pass! Know your algebra! Take him!
I think by far all teachers from Baruch, he's the one professor that actually cares about his students and actually gets you through the class and especially this FINAL! Take him if you want to learn, his hwk is a lot but it helped me learn and improve. Quiz everyday encourages everyone to study so it's a good thing. TAKE HIM!
Quiz everyday day, move fast , don't give u time to think about the example problems yourself , sloppy hand writing
If a prof does everything possible to teach u and if still u dont understand, then the problem lies with u. He puts lots of effort and gets ur attention when he feels ur daydreaming by cracking a joke or laughing. cant ask for a better prof.
This guy is great...says himself that he is strict and doesn't care but he is really a sweetheart. He cares about his students, and if u ask for help he will give it. He is funny, and willing to answer questions at any point. His system helps you get a better grade. He is really just a nice guy. Im a freshman and this semester, he is my fave prof
Great teacher, he's a pain with homework and quizzes but it helps.
As an incoming freshman i failed pre-calc. the following semester i took this professor and honestly its because of him that i got through both pre calc and calc. He give a quiz every class, but its for your own good. the guy makes notes for his students, and is always there to help his students before and after class. great professor, really cares
He's probably the clearest professor I've taken. He takes you step by step. He is hard on attendance. There are quizzes every class but as long as you studied the material it is not hard at all.
His tests are ridiculously hard. They are really tricky questions and always one that no one gets. There is homework due from the textbook everyday and webwork on top of that. Homework is not mandatory but he gives you points on the daily quizzes if you do them. He is really strict and clear about the way he wants things done.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PRFSSOR!!!I even don't where to start. Quiz everyday if you missed one 0! no make up , HW everyday +webworks. He has a high expectation about student. He think his funny with his jokes but fail . I don't know how it got all this rate Im even thinking if he wrote some! I pick him according to the rate he got but totally irrelevant.

One of the best professors at Baruch, Calculus is hard on its own, but he explained each section very clearly. Because of him I passed the department final on my second try. There is a lot of work. Quizzes every day, but they are not hard if you studied your notes from the class before, plenty of opportunity for extra credit and scoobies. great guy
too strict on the grading. Im an A average student, and i had a bad finals day.. my grade dropped from A to C+ in this class. Boring class. can sleep... Too much work. Dont take him.
Honestly not a bad professor. Calc at Baruch is harder than any other places, so it's not his fault. His quizzes and exams are hard, and you cant miss a day, but his teaching methods are good enough to pass. If you fail with him, it's on you
he is a good professor. He doesn't require a shed more than ANY student in college is supposed to know. people complain that he gives too much work, but the thing is, we are supposed to know that. i took him for algebra, precalc and calc and i do not regret. Take him if you want to learn so you won't embarrass yourself after in other classes.
The best Professor I have had at Baruch so far. He explains the material really well. If you do the homework and webwork you will be just fine in the quizzes and exams.
Extremely nice professor. Explains everything well. Gives quizzes everyday but they actually helped me do better on tests cause I would always study 10 min for them. Hw is not mandatory but if u do it u get 2 extra points on the quiz. I got an A!
Professor is so great, he teaches in a clear and simple way, he answers students' questions with great patience! he is very nice to students. you will definitely learn a lot from his class! Best math professor ever!
best professor ive had in baruch. ppl say hes hard, but this is baruch, math is supposed to be hard. he teaches in a clear way. i got an a, but had to study evryday. gives quizzes evryday, but this made exams and quizzes easier. he often says "theres almost nothing id rather do than teach". from that, you know hes good. take him, you wont regret it
This is guy is smart and he also expect you to be smart. If you are not good at math, better run away. because at least 1/3 of people drop the class after midterm.A lot of HW as extra credit, which spend 1.5 hr on average.Eazy quizes, the same kind of questions he go over in the class.Good thing is, final will be so easy if u do all his assignment.
He is amaizing. he explain everything always have time for his student. The class is hard and the is a ton of work to do but if you sat on top of it you will get a good grade. He give a ton of xtra credits. I took it with another profesor and fail know i got A-
He is a good professor. He has amazing patience with his students. If you don't understand anything he tells you to keep asking questions. He knows his material but the material is difficult. Daily quizzes, 3 tests and a final. Definitely buy the textbook.
Prof Converse was amazing. I was absolutely terrible at math, but he was so patient with me and the class as a whole. He did everything he could to make sure you understood the material and that you were prepared for the final. He graded tough and gave a lot of hw, but he was fair and it helped me learn and retain the information. Best math prof!
It's a hard class. To do well you really have to work your butt off. Quizzes every day and homework everyday. He's a very smart man, but i just don't understand why he make math harder than it should be. At times he teaches material thats not even going to be on the final. He thinks he's funny, but he's the only one that laugh at his jokes.
Smart professor. If you have heart problems, do not take this professor. His screams will give you a heart attack, no joke. Won't curve any grades. If you want an A in his class, you have to be the class pet, kiss up,study your ass off and have no social life.
If you're bad at math STAY AWAY. HW and quizzes everyday. Writes a TON of notes on the board then does one or two examples and from there you're expected to know everything. He is very intelligent and nice, but he makes it very hard to understand sometimes. taking this class at 8:15 didn't make it any easier. Tests are HARD so study.
This class requires a lot of work! I mean a lot of work, quizzes every class and homework plus webwork. I didn't get the grade I would have liked ( I think eventually I got sick of calculus). But honestly professor Converse is really good, you will learn and you will pass the final.
He's a great professor. Glad I took him. If you actually listen to him, you won't miss out on a single concept. He targets what is necessary and makes sure you have it down conceptually and mathematically. The work load might be heavier than other classes, but if you make sure to be up to date, you're not only bound to pass but also do well.
Took him the last summer session, he was great. Gives tons of homework but it helps. quiz everyday but it helps. Tons of ways to earn extra credit. He runs on tangents sometimes and is a little weird and very blunt but overall great professor
I don't understand why people think he's hard. Its just a lot of work, and if you do it you're fine. Sure he's a tough grader but you'll actually learn something. He's a bit dorky but this guy is a great teacher. Take this seriously and you'll do well.
Overall a very good professor, obviously knows what he is doing. He gives little editorials on each section before he teaches it, for example, how hard the section may be, or how important it is in relation to other sections, or if it may show up in tests or the final. This is very helpful for students in compartmentalizing parts of the course.
Professor Converse is honestly one of the best teachers I have ever had. He gives you homework and quizzes every day for you to practice. He will prepare you very well for the next class. I highly recommend him.
Prof Converse is awesome. Calculus isn't an easy subject, but if you come to class everyday and take notes you'll be fine. He has a very clear grading system. He doesn't curve. Gives excellent explanations in class.
He is funny and friendly. Textbook is not necessary and you just need that for homework questions. He has class notes for every chapters posted on blackboard .Calculus is tough but he explain things very clearly. It does need a lot of work to get an A. Quizes everyday, homework everyday plus webassign. Take him and you can learn many.
Don't take him because your GPA will be messed up. He is very strict and don't really help you.. WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY!!!!
Prof. Converse is one of the best math professors you would ever encounter. He is thorough on conceptual stuff which is one of the key elements in passing calculus and he can simplify for anyone. He makes tons of jokes but only those that intellectual minds can comprehend.
This Professor is excellent at his job. Those terrible reviews that you see are posted by students who are habitual slackers and expects a Good grade without working for it. Lectures are interesting, quizzes are effective in testing your knowledge, comprehension and memory. I definitely would recommend him!
Professor Converse is an outstanding teacher given the course he teaches. He explains everything clearly and is very willing to take questions. He gives daily quizzes and has daily homework assigned on top of the weekly WebAssign work. The class is a lot of work but if you attend and do your assignments you will pass.
Great professor, helped me learn a lot.
I 100 percent recommend taking him! He explains everything clearly and doesn't leave anyone behind. He does require a lot of work, but totally worth it. By far the best professor I have ever had! Thank you professor Converse!
Explains everything extremely clearly, no one gets left behind. He's always there for you. He gives daily quizzes and online HW. His tests are harder than the final, but it just prepares you so you can get a better-than-usual score. If you don't slack this class will be an easy A or B.
He really cares about students. And patient with students' questions. But, I have 18 quizzes as attendance, and three tests. Be ready to take good notes and do the extra credits homework and old tests. That really helps. I like the way he teach. Everything is written in his notes, and his class strictly follows the syllabus...
Overall he teaches calculus well but is very straight edge when it comes to grading . The subject was already hard enough as it is , alone his demanding workload . I did learn a lot , but he will not care about performance of his student's on a micro level . I received a c- , but it was because of the departmental final which he did cover
Such a great professor. You MUST go to class to pass. Tests are hard but he prepares you well for the final.
He is more enthusiastic about scaring students and proving that the subject is hard that making sure students are learning. Sometimes he doesn't even answer students' questions, saying he doesn't have time, but somehow he manages to find time to tell stories from his past. Extremely hard class, mainly because of the professor.
Converse is a really good professor and if you want an A you have to work really hard for it. He explains the material very well but his exams consist of a lot algebra that makes them tedious. He really prepares you for the final that is departmental. People that are lazy and do not like working hard for their grades should not take him.
He teaches really well and he would make sure you know the concept before moving on but he gives quizzes everyday and homework.
Converse is a difficult teacher. I missed 3 classes in the semester and had to work unbelievably hard for my grade. Quizzes at the beginning of every class. Tests are extremely hard. Funny quirky guy though. Not a bad bet if you're a hard worker and a skilled math student. Otherwise, don't take.
His teachings really help. He is difficult but it makes the departmental final feel like a walk in the park. Funny too. He is fair. He isn't lazy!!
Let's face it, math is not an easy thing to learn and understand, but Professor Converse teaches it in a way that makes it relatively easy to grasp and really helps to drive the topic home with a whole set of supplemental homeworks and practice exams. He posts all of his thorough notes and homeworks online and is a very genuine and funny guy!
quizzes every class teaches way too fast wouldn't take him again
One of the best professors I've taken at Baruch. We also share the same name :)
Professor Converse is a tough in a way he gives H.W. everyday plus quizzes everyday. In fact, I thought he wasn't that good but he gives extra credits to boost up your average. MyMathLab is helpful which is annoying most of the time, but hey it'll be worth it at the end. Overall, he is a good math professor.
Great teacher. He is very easy to understand.
He gives quizzes every class to help boost your test grades. He gives extra credit homework to do for the quizzes. He prepares you well for the final. He may go a little fast at times, but is always willing to stop and help explain. He was very nice and helpful. Would definitely take again
Taught Pre-calc: get ready for quizzes every morning on material of previous class. Hw is pretty heavy on paper & online but he seriously makes the class hard so you're ready for the final exam. I hate & suck at math, so take it from me. I got a 90 on the final & I can say it was because of his dedication to teaching. There's extra credit available
the worse!!! has time to talk about his personal life but has no time to answer your questions. Quizzes and home works everyday and says that he loved to bother his students
Hes an amazing professor! He really makes you work for your grade and the exams are a lot harder than the departmental final but it really pays off at the end of the day. I would 100% recommend him, his teaching is so great.
Best professor ever. Alot of work in this class but he makes you learn the material. During the final, he noticed an error on my work and did not stop bugging me until I fixed it. He is the professor that will make you learn and appreciate the work he's putting into his students, Very sarcastic and funny. Extra credit after tests, awesome best ever
he is amazing because his class is generally hard, in my opinion, but you are prepared for the final. Its stupid to have a teacher who is an easy grader and then all that work is lost because you failed the final. My class grade would have been lower but I did really well on the final.
Professor Converse is honestly an amazing professor! I was really nervous to take his MTH2003 class because I've heard that his test are pretty difficult. His tests are difficult but they definitely prepare you for the final I did poorly in his tests but once the final came along I felt well prepared for it. I got a 91% on it!
He's really good and making sure we know the basics and explains the topic you're learning conceptually and to really understanding and not memorizing.
He's a pretty funny teacher. I recommend asking questions as soon as it comes into your head because you really want to know the basics. He stresses that A LOT. And don't be afraid to participate.
Professor Converse is an amazing professor. He is kind and does multiple examples throughout class to ensure that you understand the topic. He makes the class harder than the test will be in order to prepare you for the final (in case it is brutal). However, his class requires a lot of effort so be prepared to work for your grade.
He is a character. He has a passion for math which is clear. Can be intimidating at times because he is sort of abrasive. But by the end of the semester you get used to him. He cares about his students doing well even if he doesn't show it. Best part of his class is when he gets off on tangents about philosophy. Two classes in one!
I highly recommend you take this professor. He explains things very thoroughly and if you have a question he will immediately address it. He does not take any late homework and there are quizzes before every class based on the previous lesson so you do not want to be late for class or absent.
DO NOT TAKE HIM. GOES extremely fast. I promise you this one teacher you do not want to take. he is ruthless, not caring, arrogant. Stay away from him at all cost. QUIZ everyday. test are extremely hard. I promise you there is never a time where you not going fast. you look down for two minutes and then you're lost. if you take him gpa is bad
Don't take this class if you can't do math.
It is obvious that this professor has a huge passion for math and philosphy. However, his test are extremely hard, there are quizzes every single class (if you miss one you CANNOT make it up), AND he gives alot of homework. If you want your gpa above a 3.0, than I don't recommend this professor. Good luck!
Most definitely one of the best prof I've had, knows how to teach and is organized with his lessons
Professor Converse is one of the best math professors at Baruch. He explains fast but if you need him to slow down he will. He doesnt have any problem explaining things again. He makes his test more difficult than the final so when you do the final you can do great. Homework every day. Quizzes every class. But it prepares you for the final.
He makes you earn your grade but it doesnt take too much work and hes homework is pretty easy and not a lot. There is a quiz every week but these are simple which boost ur grades. LITERALLY ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS JUST PAY ATTENTION and thats it. Earning a A is hard but possible but most students gets B and B+.
AVOID AT ALL COST! I DO NOT RECOMMEND TAKING THIS PROFESSOR!!! HE DOESN"T COMMUNICATE WELL WITH STUDENTS! LECTURE'S HEAVY, GRADES HOWEVER HE LIKES, IF WORK IS SHOWN A DIFFERENT WAY YOU WILL LOSE POINTS. QUIZZES AND TEST ARE HEAVY! HOMEWORK EVERYDAY! CLASS ENDS WHENEVER HE WANTS! HE NEVER ANSWERS QUESTIONS BEING ASKED IN CLASS OR THROUGH EMAIL.
Hes one of the worse professors, please be aware before you take him. You might regret breathing.
I'd rather kill myself than take his class.
just horrible overall.
if you want to pass your class, dont take him. hes very proud that he likes to fail his students
i want to drop out of college after taking his class
horrible
Hes a good and understanding professor. If you communicate what youre having trouble with, hell help you through it. He makes sure to go through each step, that way we can understand it. I took him in the summer so we had a quiz everyday, but if you have a general understanding of the material, youll be fine!
hes so strict for no reason
This class is not made for everybody. He makes students work for their grade and understand the subject. Yes, having to do homework & quizzes everyday (was time consuming). He gives feedback, adds 10 points to MML, extra credit, lecture videos (VERY HELPFUL), helps whenever asked.
While he does give a lot of written/ online (MML) homework assignments and quizzes, he does it to help prepare us for our final. If you pass EACH of his exams with a 70+, you're basically guaranteed an 80+ on the final. If you have any questions he answers them thoroughly too.
Hes a great Professor, if you have any questions during class he will take his time to explain it thoroughly. He prepares you for the final and also has additional times to check-in for any questions you have on any of his practice problems following the final. He cares for his students if you let him know what is going on.
His exams are very hard and the time is limited, hes not a good professor.
Professor Converse overall knows what he is doing while teaching. However, assigns way too much work to be able to study for his quizzes every morning. Along with that, you're expected to do MML and teach yourself two lessons a day since he does teach as if he has somewhere to rush to.
Yes, you will have pop quizzes every day during the class. Yes, his test could be challenging, but overall it's the effort you put in that will reflect on your grade. He is willing to help during his office hours and answers any questions. DONT YOU DARE THROW OUT HIS QUIZZES cuz they help study his tests and do the sample tests. Do that easy BorA.
Unless you are really good at math before taking this professor's course, you will be overwhelmed. Daily quizzes, lots of homework (both written and online), and if you miss more than one class, good luck on catching up especially if you are deeper into the topics of this course.
I took Calculus years ago and failed. I went back to school and was dreading calc.Yes he gives lots of homework, yes its tedious and Calc is hard, but this is the only way to pass, is to do 1,000,000 problems and thats how he will help you. I passed and thats all I care about! Not sure I would have been able to do that if I had a lenient professor.
Class becomes hard when you start doing matrices, RREF stuff. Watch a lot of youtube videos, do all the final problems, attend tutoring, ask him questions after class, do all the hwk, prepare for his everyday quizzes, and do the final review sheet he provides. All of these will lead you to that A+. I didn't get an A bc I slacked on hwk. Dont be me.
i dont know why he have a higher rating. hes one of the terrible professors at baruch. he will make ur life a living h*ll and make u regret coming to class. he gives out quizes everyday and theres so much work and he talks a lot and nothing is understandable. goodluck people, i will never recommend him to anyone
Mr. Converse is a chill guy but the way he teaches this math class is so bad. He gives quizzes every day, which for me is fine but the thing that gets you is the homework. He wants the homework handwritten, printed, and stapled when you give it back to him and If you ask him to slow down he'll proceed to say " I wish I could but I don't have time."
Unless you're a math genius, don't take him. Class is notes and he doesn't stop if you need time or have a question. Quiz every class plus 2 tests plus final plus hw for EVERY class. He grades harshly and its his way or the highway. If you can take a different professor do that otherwise you're gonna suffer for a whole semester, trust me.
He teaches the material well. He posts class notes that go through the problems. He explains the answers to the quizzes and exams. The homework can be a lot but if you are on top of your work it isnt bad. You have to be there on time to take the quizzes every class, quizzes are straightforward and based off the homework.
Great professor to learn math if you're willing to put in the work. I struggle with math but he taught well and prepares you good for the final. Lots of homework, quiz every class but it's based on the homework so it's not too difficult to study for. Tests are similar to the homework. Gives you the whole semester to do MML
I'm not used to this prof's style, but it was pretty helpful in the long run. Quiz w/ 3-5 questions at the start of each class, and veeery detailed and organized lesson notes that are super useful for doing your hw and studying by yourself at home. He will torture your brain into mastering the content, so give him props for his grand effort.
every class has a test which I found so annoying at the beginning but I found it to help and quizzes so much taking my final. The practice test given are so helpful so DO THEM he provides step by step answers for homeworks and quizzes online as well as a well as hand written notes. I only found it hard bc I hate math. prepares u so well for final
He's a very good professor. Quizzes every day are tedious but they're based on the hw. They are very helpful when studying for his tests. He is a quick grader and we will have everything ready by ur next class. He gives extra credit for the tests. You have to put in the work if you want a good grade. He outlines his rules clearly on his syllabus.
Honestly, this class was a major wake up call. Converse is not a bad professor at all-- his teaching style is not for everyone. His lectures are 2 hours long, and extremely boring based on math. Written homework and quiz every class, plus MML (easy). His tests are extremely difficult STUDY!, and supposedly the final is easier (i dropped the class)
too hard! tough grader, quiz every single class, homework every single class, no time to focus on my other calsses
don't take if you want to have a high gpa
He is a very good professor, his lectures are fast but if you pay attention you'll be fine. He gives a quiz every day and it helps a lot. He's a generous grader, he gives partial credit even if you get a question wrong
I would recommend to take this class. Is it fast paced, Yes, but he does stop if you ask him to explain something and he has more than enough office hours if you need more help. HW/Quiz Everyday to see where you're at and helps you boost your grade after tests. Listen to what he says in the first day of class take your time on his tests don't rush
There's plenty of new material to go through everyday, but the homework and daily quizzes provide enough practice to prepare you for the tests and finals. Granted, I had him over the summer, so I had more time to do all the work and MyMathLabs. His teaching style worked for me, but it won't work for everyone. Take if you're willing to put in work.
He explains the content well, and make sure to ask questions if you don't understand. Very fast paced so it's not for everyone. The daily quizzes and the amount of homework might be a hassle, but it prepares you to pass the tests. He's pretty funny too.
Beware of a quiz every class. He is very strict and doesn't give any fks. He has no emotions and wants you to learn it and won't pass you unless you know everything about the math he is teaching. It is ok for some students but let's face it, are you really going to use this math for your career, most likely not. But he is a passionate person.
Professor Converse expects a lot of work, but if you put in the effort, you can do well. The detailed notes and unstuckstudy are lifesavers for studying. Tough grader, but worth it.
If you put in the effort, you'll see the results. Though, I have to admit there's a lot to keep up with, daily homework assignments and pop quizzes, but they do prepare you for future exams and the final. Majority of people have said that the final is easier than the tests given, and from my recent experience, I can completely agree.
He makes the test unnecessarily hard and very long. The final was a piece of cake compared to his tests. The daily quizzes are a torture. I am good at math but this guy just thinks math is the only thing we have in our life.
Favorite professor at Baruch! While his class was definitely not easy, he's amazing at teaching math! There is homework and short quizzes every class (the homework definitely prepares you). Tests are def not easy so study but the class is passable. He is also a pretty funny guy! Put in effort and you'll pass. He also has office hours often!
The dude is the type of guy who will call the police if you're hosting a party. His exams are brutal, and he gives crazy homework assignments (online and written) and quizzes every day, and it's just not it. If you're a math nerd, take him. Overall, he is a chill guy who is passionate about the things he teaches.
Ignore all negative ratings, he is amazing! People who speak bad about him are just lazy. You have to work hard in his class as he makes sure that you are fully prepared for the final. It is not about him but the math. Ignore him if you are not ready for the real math, but take him if you want to understand it and have A on the final.
Prof. Converse isn't the worst professor, but the content is very difficult to understand based on his teachings. Lots of homework, a quiz every class, and the exams are incredibly difficult. In-class exams are even more difficult than the final. If you can self-study well, then I would take him. If not, there are better options out there.
Professor Converse is a good teacher. I took a summer class before I went to Baruch. You can tell that he enjoys teaching math. He gives fair grades, and the tests are a bit more difficult than the final test, but I think that's for the best. Study and do your homework, and you'll be fine.
Genuinely one of the best math professors. He goes over everything super well. I took it during the summer, which was a tight schedule. Quizzes are given every class, covering the homework you have every night. It's quite the workload, but he makes it easy to understand and is always willing to help whenever you ask. I cannot recommend him enough.
Took him the summer of my freshman year, and he aligns perfectly with my style of learning. He takes time to ask if the class understands before continuing. The homework is frequent but honestly super easy if you already understood the subject back in high school. Great at giving examples in class and is obvious that he really understands his stuff
Professor Converse is a pretty decent professor; pay attention to the lecture, and you'll pass the course. He does explain that if you ask a question, there is a lot of homework, but it's beneficial in preparing you for the final, quiz, and such. I'm not the best student in math, but for the level I took, it's definitely a decent difficulty.
I took him the summer before my freshman year; he is honestly a really great professor. He explains things really well and if you have questions, he will gladly explain it again. He has HW due for every class and a quiz for every class so beware of that. It is a lot honestly but the packets of HW and quizzes genuinely prepare you for the exams.
Too much work load, class was easy, but constantly stressed about doing his work. Overall weird honestly and wasn't very accessible.
He is very straightforward. Gives daily homework and quizzes but they are very easy and short. Tests are difficult but if you take it serious, 45 minutes to an hour of studying, you should be fine.
Worst class ive ever taken
Professor Converse is an good teacher, during his lectures he will stop and ask if anyone doesn't understand anything and will explain. There is homework after lectures due the next class with a short quiz about it and this is for every homework. too His exams are harder than the final in order to prepare you for it.
Great Professor for MTH 1030. He does have quizzes every class but as long as you do your hw and understand the material then the quizzes are easy. Makes only short response exams that are harder than the final but even then, if you study for a for about an hour the day before the exam then you'll be fine. DO PRACTICE PROBLEMS!!
