This is not a blow-off class. Although attendance is not mandatory, if you want to pass you'll be there everyday. He's always right on time, like pulling into the parking lot 5 minutes before class so don't expect to get help before class. He does get annoyed if you ask him to repeat something more then twice :D no assignments. Somewhat easy class!
should not teach remedial level math taught entirely too fast offered no extra credit half of class dropped midterm other half probably failed straight from the book but its either you understand or tough luck
Great teacher. Keeps it challenging and on your toes. Not a blow off class. Study and come to class and you will be fine.
calss was a bit challeging. does get aggitated when lame questions area asked. study a lot. online homework nothing like the test you'll take. Good teacher. don't review in class. hard to find his office hours. but you have to be far beyond your toes.no lie to succed. he did try giving extra credit. good man though. loves stat that's fo sho
This is a hard class period but he makes it better. You'll have to work for your grade but he is willing to help you throughout everything.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS OR IT WILL COST YOU! Very scatter-brained, gets off topic easily and then rushes thru things. If you're already bad at math, he makes you feel dumber, offers to help but gets annoyed if you need things explained more then once. Tests are SUPER hard, although he does give reviews but they're tough as well :(
This professor is a waste of time. He was not clear, does not like to be asked questions, he is not available for office hours. Take another professor. I am taking another professor and I am understanding and comprehending material. Top it all off he is a perv.
I GOT AN A IN THIS CLASS, BUT I AM A MATH MAJOR. I DO NOT THINK IT WOULD BE THAT EASY FOR NON MATH-ORIENTED PEOPLE. HE DOES GIVE EXTRA CREDIT TO HELP BOOST YOUR TEST GRADES AND HE TRIES TO HELP WHEN YOU HAVE QUESTIONS. HE IS A GOOD TEACHER, USES EXCEL AND CALCULATORS FOR MOST STUFF SO IF YOU CAN GET THAT YOU SHOULD BE GOOD.
I love Mr. Goot's teaching methods. I feel that he is a great teacher. I can honestly say that he has taught me well. He takes time out to make sure you have learned the material. I would recommend him for Beginning Algebra.
Do not take him online for anything! Email responses are usually less than a sentence, & you have to email 3-4 times to get a clear answer & you can't track him down on the phone. The little he posts looks copy & paste out of a textbook, website, or another teachers work. I was lucky I had previous experience with stats to get through this class.
Do not even think about attending his class. Most of the time spent in his class was spent doing homework and he was very rushy. All he cared about was finishing the book but not how good the students were doing. He also never answered my emails. He was also tardy to class most of the time. He was not an organized person.
Im not good with math at all, however he made it soooo much easier to understand im so happy i took his class!! By the way he is very helpful and just make sure you attend class and do the homework don't slack!
Love this class, If you want to learn math, and I mean really learn math then take him. He breaks everything down for you. He's great!!! He takes you back to the basics so that you'll be ready for the harder math to come.
very good at explaining
He is the greatest math teacher Ive ever had. Soo good at explaining concepts and makeing them stick. Im sad he wont be my teacher this coming semester. I definately reccommend this professor.
he was very good at explaining, but is kind of hard.
He is he best math teacher I have ever had. I was so worried that I would have trouble with this class, since I was supposed to take a remedial class first, but it was overrode. Everything is straight from the notes he gives. Study the test reviews and do homework and you'll be fine. He has great energy and I'll miss his class.
By far the BEST math teacher. He is passionate about what he teaches and is extremely helpful. Study his reviews, do the homework and quizzes and attend class. I took him for a maymester, so naturally I was worried but I did my best and made an A. I recommend you take him.
I understand his teaching method so well I am taking his College Algebra class this Fall. Homework and Quizzes are on my math lab. You get 3 attempts on the 4 quizzes. 4 test, final. Test are just like reviews. Avg of Test,Quizzes,Homework & Final. I got a B+ & I am not a Math person. Show up and ask questions. He is more than willing to help!
I hate Algebra and have never been good at it, however he made it interesting and actually kindof fun. Never reieved over a C in a math class before and here I am making a B+
Do not take this class. When it came to grading he is not fair. I told him to help me with my project he gave me the right answers and then i helped my friend with hers since she was confused. I recevied a 80 and she received a 85. He did that to me several times. So if he does not like you good luck with grading.
I'll be honest. This is the worst prof. I've ever had. I've never had to even think about dropping a class before this one. He talks WAY to fast because he gets a nerdgasm with everything he does. He is not clear, he does not review, it's do it once and move on, and if you don't get it, you're just screwed because he doesn't answer emails.
Stay away at all costs. Seriously, this guy is awful. His tests are unfair, we didn't even use the textbook once, he rushes through everything, doesn't answer emails, and doesn't review. He shoves information down your throat so fast you can't even breath, and if you don't get it, you're just out of luck.
the best math class I ever took. he is very helpful go to his office and he will take his time to make sure you understand what he gives. test were heard if you don't know what your doing. loved his class! Awesome teacher!
I took "gut"s statistics class for my first semester of college. I was not dissapointed. If I have any complaints its that he can be a little disorganized however he is a blunt, funny guy who is passionate about statistics so he makes it interesting. He encourages office visits. If you seek his help he WILL give it to you
He talks way too fast and will not slow down when you ask questions. He is a very tough teacher. Would NOT recommend!
I'm horrible at math, and I went into this class hoping to make a C. I ended up with an A. I liked this teacher a lot. He is not super easy, but he was able to explain it in a way that made since to me. He really loves statistics and wants his students to love it too. He doesn't use the book so I was able to save some money. If you do the homework and study you should do good in his class.
I love math and I hated this teacher. It feels like he's yelling at you. I ALWAYS try to find the good in a teacher, but with him, it is rather diffiult. He's not very helpful. Coming from someone who is fluent in math and from someone who grasps it easily, he made it very difficult. I would not recommend.
excellent professor
Well, if he is not a good professor, I don't know what kind of definition of a good professor will be. He is super nice and very passionate with statistics. Plus he is willing to take his time to explain whenever you have doubt, even just few minutes before his next class period. I am so glad I had him for my first statistics course.
Mr. G was great! I am so bad at math and he made this experience less torturous! He is always willing to help and really tries to help you understand. He encourages students to go see him during his office hours, and never made me feel like I was wasting his time. Very energetic, encouraging, and loves math! Everything a math teacher should be!
He is a great person, a great professor and is very passionate about what he teaches. He is very understanding and if you give the class a REAL try and GO TO TUTORING you should be fine. Only thing I struggled with was the fact that I'm not good at math at all, and there was SO much information taught so fast. Other than that, he is GREAT!
Once a day class, is not enough if you want to pass this class. He is very fast, I do not recommend him if you cant make time to study and learn the homework. No power points, no reviews before test. Must be present in class to keep up with his fast paced writing/examples. All homework and quizzes are in Math Lab.
Mr. G is honestly the best professor I have ever had. I am not a math person AT ALL. However, I caught on to stats so easily that I considered changing my major to something that would require more math. I absolutely loved his class. He takes his time teaching and always stops to clarify if someone has a question. If you need stats, TAKE HIM!!
I'm only slightly biased having become his friend prior to becoming his student. He does a great job of breaking complex equations down to a lay simplicity. He gives practical anecdotes to offer a better concept of the lessons. My class had 4 exams, wherein the final was cumulative. It's math, though, so that should be expected. Great class!!
Professor G was easily one of the best professors I've had at TCC. A funny and nice guy but also very serious about his subject. Very clear on the material and wants EVERY student to understand the lecture, very helpful in aiding students who are struggling. I would take Prof G again in a heartbeat.
Had a fantastic experience with Gutknecht. I hadn't had a math class in 8 years but he was incredibly easy to follow. You can tell he's really passionate about his work. He gave partial credit to questions on tests, which really helps your grade. Very easy going. I wish I could take him again. One of the best profs I've ever had.
I am the worst at math but surprisingly still hanging in his course. Stats is rough but I don't know if I could do well with a different professor. Mr. G is so helpful and TRULY wants you to do well. He NEVER makes you feel dumb for asking questions! He's super obsessed with math so his lectures are interesting just because he loves it so much.
Very funny and outgoing. His Love for math is infectious. Show up take notes study.... He is available during office hours he will return phone calls and emails. I found my Love for math again and thanks to Mr. Gutknetch positive feedback and motivation to keep going and not to quit attitude I am finding the harder route wasn't so hard after all.
Wasn't looking forward to taking my math credit, but Gutknecht made the class easier than I expected and made it relatable and actually enjoyable for me, if you miss a day you might be a little lost as he goes fast with the materiel but he will meet with you if you need help, overall great teacher.
He tries to get you to love my math. He's an excited goofy nerd, but honestly you'll love him not the math. He's very helpful & he won't let you give up! I made such a poor grade because math just isn't my thing!
More corny than hilarious. He often went on too long about one topic. I think this was his first weekend class so he was learning how to teach 2 one & a half hour classes rolled into 1. I feel like I did a lot of self-teaching still. He wants you to pass.
He cares & gives great notes. I hate connect math. He wants you to understand & pass. I see him on campus & even though I failed I still say hi. I just required a different learning style then he gives you. I thoroughly enjoy him as a person though. He's great eye candy too.
Super enthusiastic to teach and is supportive when you shout out a wrong answer because "who cares if you're wrong" he wants to know where you went wrong so he can help you further, not belittle you. Overall a great teacher who wants you to pass and is super friendly and kind of funny in a cheesy way.
This professor is very knowledgable and enthusiastic. He does make things harder then they need to be. He Bounces in-between technology (stat crunch, calculator and excel) so it adds even more confusion. His tests are extremely difficult and he does not allow enough time to really think about it. My Math lab does not line up with what he teaches
i JUST LIKE THIS PROFESSOR, THAT IS ALL I HAVE TO SAY AT THIS TIME.
We had two tests in this class over half the material. No prep for final Homework did not match class work. Teacher was all over the place. Would not recommend
Absolutely loved having him as a teacher! Im not a math fan at all but his love for math will rub off on you. He is patient and willing to take the time to make sure you understand the material and will allow you to ask questions and make mistakes without making you feel bad. Always available during office hours for tutoring and willing to help.
Take his class. He LOVES to teach STATISTICS, made a difficult subject doable . NEVER miss class or you'll get behind. Online HW and quizzes have unlimited attempts to try for 100. STUDY!!!!! My class met 1x weekly and was a 14 week semester so only 3 tests. Offers 1 bonus ? on test. Do your best on test 1 (easiest) and 2 because final is tough.
I am not the best in math but, this teacher may confuse you since he does get lost in the lectures at times since he has the notes pre-written. He is a little too fast in the lectures. All homework is online and is pretty reasonable to do. He does not give test reviews so you need to make your own. He is a good guy and always in good mood
Excellent professor! Extremely supportive and helpful. He is very passionate about his subject. A little fast paced class but he is willing to work hard with you whenever you need his help. Even if you make minor mistakes it's really okay because he will not make fun of you. Be prepared to work hard but he is truly helpful and caring.
you have a lot of homework but he helps you a lot and his lectures are very clear and straight to the point and very understanding
I hate math, but after taking his class I figured it all out and fell in love with this subject, the way he teach is unique. He is always in good mood and loves to help students, he loves when you participate. Do the homework and the project, you will pass as long as try hard on the tests.
Great professor teaches everything to the T, Really wants the students to learn the language of statistics rather than just reembering the formulas and passing the test. I retained alot of the information he taught because of this. -- You will have to do the homework but it is self-paced and have large windows of time for completion.
Took a Friday only class, attendance is a must, goes over a lot in once class . Loves to teach and is always willing to answer questions. Homework and quizzes are online. Only had 2 test and the final. As long as you put in the effort you will get a good grade. Would highly recommend.!
This professor is always happy, but VERY absent-minded when not lecturing, and impossible to contact via email or office hours. Tests are only 15 questions and quizzes are only 5 questions, so even just a couple mistakes makes a HUGE difference in grade. Hes a nice guy who seems to care, but he makes things more difficult than they need to be.
Took him for Spring 2018 Stats. 1. Fast paced 2. Doesn't respond to e-mails 3. Takes role at the exact time class is to end 4. Starts a new chapter from handout with only 2 mins left in class 5. No extra credit 6. No multiple choice test 7. 4 test, 1 final, homework on mystatlab 8. Doesn't calculate test grades with homework or quizzes until end
Took Stats, Good guy, passionate about the subject. It's not an easy A, you have to work for it. Learn how to work the problems on StatCrunch and Excel. Master the "cash register effect" then check your work with the formulas. I've learned to enjoy math, credit Professor Gutk with that.
Although he's very energetic, passionate and knowledgable about the subject; the class is VERY fast paced. No extra credit and he gives a summarization of what to expect on test, but no real review. He talks very fast and moves even faster. Stats is hard, so if you take him get a tutor and a recorder.
TOOK HIM DURING SPRING! worst mistake ever. he doesnt respond to emails. doesnt post test dates. very disorganized. calculates grades last minute. do not take if you want a good grade. He posts a lot of homework and his quizzes are so hard and I am good at math. I hated his class but he is a great guy when he is not my stats prof
DONT DO IT! 3 tests, LOTS OF HOMEWORK that is SO time consuming!!!!!!! Test are 50%, homework is 10%, quizzes 10%, project is 5% classwork is 5% final is 20%. No test reviews. Lectures the WHOLE class. VERY hard to pass. I studied hours for the test and still did not pass one.
Great professor. It's college level stats, it's not easy. He makes it tolerable.
Enjoyed his teaching method, was fast-paced but as long as you are doing the homework you should be able to keep up. Practice the homework section before the adjoining lecture and you will connect with the concepts during class.
Love this guy. Knows what he's talking about. Gives a project with mult chances to go over it with him before you turn it in, so it's an easy chance for A.
Never been good in math, I decided to give Stats a shot. I took him for a Maymester, and it was tough! Lots of homework and no reviews for tests, but he is so good at teaching the subject that I for once in my life understood math. He is very fast paced and his lectures last till the very last minute of class. Do the work and you will pass.
Smart guy. He keeps your attention even tho the content is boring. High energy and desire to help you along.
GOOT is an excellent professor. You can tell how passionate he is about statistics and math in general. Statistics in general, can be a super difficult course to learn but he breaks it down and makes sure every student is understanding what is going on. It's pretty much impossible to not pay attention because he is super enthusiastic.
Professor Gutknecht is pretty disorganized. He doesn't put in grades very often and takes extremely long to put in test grades. He is very passionate about statistics, I just wouldn't take him again. He gives a lot of homework, but it isn't that hard. Tests can be hard and confusing, so don't blow them off.
He cares about his students understanding & will go over all questions many times without a single hint of annoyance/frustration. His lectures are thoroughly planned out to help the class make connections throughout the entirety of the course. Homework takes a lot of time but its good practice. He's the best math instructor ever, and I hate math
THE ONLY DOWNSIDE OF THIS PROFESSOR IS HE DOES NOT REVIEW A SINGLE THING FOR THE TEST, will even move on to the next chapters before taking the test for the previous ones. No review whatsoever so it is up to you to remember or re teach yourself how to do something for an earlier chapter. Also finals cover THE WHOLE YEAR WITH NO REVIEW. besides GR8!
Good lord, he's like a squirrel on crack but he's very passionate and fantastic at what he does. He does not do extra credit, the only review we received was for the final, but if you show your work on your tests he'll look for ways to give you some leeway with a few points. Lots of homework via statlab, unlimeted attempt. I highly recommend him.
Great professor, ready to clear up and questions students have. Take clear notes from the examples, and learn how to use StatCrunch before the first test. I suggest making your own notes out of your homework and to reference them when reviewing, this way studying for a test will be easier. Anyone can pass this class as long as they actually try.
Maybe Im just really bad at math but this class was super difficult for me. Sooo much homework with lengthy problems. Tutor 24/7 and the math lab are the only reasons how I passed this class. Lectures are super fast pace and its almost like hes in a race to see how much material he can cover in one day.
While he does explain the material pretty well, this has been the hardest math class I have taken.. Easy to understand the material while he's teaching, but he does it all with you, so by the time you do it on your own you don't really get it. Don't miss class either, you'll get behind.
Awesome teacher who cares, he will put forth a great effort to help you. Funny guy who loves math and also has found a way to make it flow. He is very helpful will stay late or allow you to sit in on other classes. The homework is a lot but if you do all of it even most you will past. He opens it all up at the end of the class for you to work on
Hes a really great teacher and hes really helpful. He doesnt answer emails though ): Hes really funny and finds a way to make the material flow. Hes soooooo cool. Take him. :)
His classwork examples are relatable
Took his class as a maymester Super interesting and passionate for the subject. He was always willing to stay after class to help, very patient. Definitely recommend you take the class. 10/10
He is a nice man but he is very very unorganized. He talks to fast moves around board to board. If you are not good in math avoid him! Homework online. Test are paper but so confusing and you have to use stat crunch and excel if you are unfamiliar with this your going to be lost.
Easily the hardest class I have ever taken. Prof G is such a cool guy but other than that the class is awful. Gives you one example in class, doesn't respond to emails and no extra credit. I have emailed him on multiple times during the COVID-19 situation and not a single response. Very frustrating considering that is the only way to reach him.
If you want a professor tat will. break math down to T for you take Professor Groot!!! He was freaking awesome and we got to use a system called my mathlab and statcruch for our tests and HW!! He was such a great guy and helped me understand statistics A LOT! I am terrible with math normally.
first of all he is very very hyper, he jumps from board to board. He is all over the place, if you already struggle with math DO NOT TAKE HIM! Homework is on my stat, you have to use excel, stat crunch, and you have to know what your doing during test time because you will be printing graphs and much other. If you are a math major this is your guy
Brilliant professor. Are you interested in learning elementary statistical methods? Then take his class. The structure of this course is such that you understand and retain the information.
The professor is a nice person, but he never answers emails. If you miss a day or two you'll be behind. The professor seemed to lecture well but I couldn't learn anything in his class, his way of teaching doesn't work for me.
I am horrible at math but I understood what was being taught and could apply it to our homework just fine. I didn't score well on tests but I was passing just by doing well on homework and quizzes. He is always there if you have questions on homework. Professor Gutknecht is a very easy going guy and will have you laughing throughout his lectures.
He was upbeat, nice, and really kept me engaged. It was an enjoyable class to be in
I absolutely loved how Professor G lectures! I am not great at math, but he breaks it down in a way that is very easy to comprehend. You need to participate and you need to show up for class!! If you don't do either, you will probably fail. Overall, Professor G is an AMAZING teacher!
Professor G is very passionate with his lessons. He is upbeat and ready to teach. He does lecture fast but he will take a step back to help those who need it. He explains everything clearly and doesn't move on until everyone understands.
Professor Gutknecht was very excited to teach math. He can go very fast according to some people but I would recommend the math lab because I ended up being taught by the people there since I require more practice on my own. All of the homework, and quizzes are straightforward. Be sure to review and read the syllabus on taking tests in his class.
Very helpful and shows an interest in teaching. Gives feedback on tests. Practice math problems to understand the lessons.
Professor Gutknecht is an amazing professor. He really cares about his students and gives opportunities to get tutoring or ask for help on homework, etc. He tells a lot of jokes and tries to keep the class engaged. He doesn't really respond to emails, which is a bummer, but his office is always open and he will talk after class.
Mr. Gutknecht was an awesome teacher. Loves teaching class and will explain the lessons until you understand. He will help you out after class helps with questions on homework, also getting help in the math lab will help you also passing the class. Take good notes, do homework and the quizzes making 90's you will pass. I will take his class again.
An awesome professor. I am not the best at math, but this professor taught with a passion and made sure we understood the concepts well which made it slightly easier on me. There are 7 chapters, 3 exams, 1 cumulative final! Lots of homework assignments on Pearson but he allows for them to be turned in late. Stay on track or you will fall behind!
Great professor, always makes sure you are understanding as he teaches
He's not the worst but not the best. He's open about having ADD and it shows. Not a bad thing necessarily, but notes and lectures get messy. I'm currently taking the class and if you read ahead and try to teach yourself, you'll have a better understanding of what he's trying to say. If you do the homework's after each lesson, you'll get an easy A :)
I found the content delivered in class to be truly enriching. The content shared transcends the confines of mathematics and provides valuable insights that extend into diverse areas of knowledge. the enthusiasm and confidence in teaching statistics have made the subject not only comprehensible but also enjoyable...
Professor Gutknecht is very ADD, hyper, & tends to teach certain subjects way too fast. I had to drop his class because I was struggling a lot with focusing & learning from his lectures. I tried to talk to him multiple times after class & he gave me little in response saying I "might" pass. If you need a more patient teacher, take another class.
Professor was a really sweet guy, he made math kind of easy to understand. Class consisted of 6 grades. 4 exams and the final plus the online homework. Be prepared to put in extra time out of class to fully understand the math and to do all of the homework. He left the homework accessible for all semester so it wasn't due until the end.
He is all over the place. Never knew when the test was going to be. He wasn't able to keep on a schedule. He went over topics very quickly. He did ask if anyone had questions, but you don't know what to even ask. I ended up having to drop the class.
in my opinion he was very good I mean he lets you do all of the homework's and assignments online all year long until the last day also unlimited attempts. he kinda is everywhere he genuinely wants you to understand it by putting math terms into english terms. Most of his test are based on the lecture n tells you exactly whats on the test
He makes math seem a lot easier than it looks
Best teacher I have ever had from Elementary till College. He really gets the point across in his lectures, he is always happy to answer any questions during the lectures as well I was so worried about taking College level math, but I passed both College Algebra with an A+ As well as statistics.
Professor G is engaging and makes the material easy to understand, even for math-averse students. The workload is manageable with consistent effort. Unstuck AI was a great study tool to supplement the coursework.
He is awesome, if you actually pay attention to the lectures, you will be fine. He actually teaches! Towards the end the course got a bit harder but just study and pay attention and you will be okay.
Overall an okay professor. Lots of homework which isn't due until the very end of the semester. Exams were tough. I once went to his office hours and he was very upset as I interrupted his online gambling session. No exams are dropped or replaced, and no extra credit is offered. Half of the class ended up dropping or failing. Avoid him if possible.
very passionate professor! You can tell he cares that youre getting the material and that you're learning. Fast paced but that is understandable given the amount of material that is covered. Definitley made learning fun for a subject I dont find very fun.
The Gut is an amazing professor if you can keep up with him. His passion for teaching is evident and you can tell whenever you are in one of his lectures. The hardest part about this class are the tests. Make sure to be prepared for those. Gutknect offers plenty of resources to catch up in-case you miss a class which is absolutely clutch.
He is passionate about the subject; however, he was not accessible outside of class for tutoring or help, so I had to teach myself everything. I'd recommend going to Mathlab as they helped me the most. A lot of homework is available throughout the semester. Be wary if you aren't good at math.
He was good but expect to take a lot of notes in his class.
