Not the easiest class but that's b/c of material. Very willing to meet with students for extra help, but not very good at putting econ terms into english. Work hard and you'll get and A, 800 points and two 20pt. xtra credit assignments.
Always willing to meet for extra help. Class is hard, but experiments make it interesting.
Very willing to meet for extra help. Wants you to do well and understnad material. Knows his stuff! Not an easy class but an A is do-able with hardwork and 2 xtra-cred. assignments
Aaron is a great prof. It's basically all notetaking and some experiments.. but he's clear and the book is easy reading. If you pay attention and read, it really isn't hard at all. I enjoyed having him for a professor.
Aaron Lowen is one of the best teachers that at Grand Valley. He makes a not so interesting subject seem bearable. Basically all taking notes and doing experiments. He has a good sense of humor and you should definitely take him for economics.
The material didn't thrill me at all, but it was bearable. Read the book, and take notes, and you should be okay. Didn't care for him at first, but he ended up being alright.
Aaron was always there to help out. It isn't a fun subject, but he did a good job at explaining it. Just do all the assignment and study notes and book for test and you'll do fine.
Aaron was honestly one of the best professors I have ever had. He is very helpful, makes a boring subject fun, does give extra credit (that helped my grade a lot). Do the extra credit and do well on hw and tests and youll do fine. Don't sweat quizzes
Great Prof. Class isnt the easiest but he makes it fun. Funny guy, very willing to help and wants you to do well. Says measure really wierd, must be an Iowa thing. Would take again if I had the chance.
At first th ecourse could have been in spanish and it would have made more sence. Stick with it, he's very willing to help and meet outside of class. Doesn't pull any tricks out on tests, he's not out to make you miserable. Uses great examples.
good teacher
He gives you homework from the book so you need to buy it. Homework is harder, but he gives you tons of help and the tests are just like it. Very entertaining class, not much to do with business though, or creativity.
great prof!! makes a boring subject seem almost interesting. pay attention in class and study the quizzes for the tests. he's got a great sense of humor and is willing to help out. TAKE HIM!!
He is very young, energetic, and cute :) He is also mildly amusing. The class seems impossible at first but it gets better as it goes.
Aaron is the man! Take this guy! You will not regret! Funny guy, very young too, cool dude.
A good professor. Does a great job at teaching. Spend enough time on your homework and do it to its fullest and you will be okay. Fun class too. Not your traditional class!
I didn't really enjoy this professor. He does use a lot of real life examples to clarify the subject matter which helps.Overall I thought he was kinda harsh. Not always willing to help. I think he liked himself much more than I did...arrogance.
One of the best profs I have had. He is very clear about what he expects you to learn and gives great examples. He has a great teaching style and made a 3 hour class bearable. Would definately take him again.
All I cans say is...best prof I have ever had. Can't wait to take another class w/ him.
loved it
Hard class, alot of work, but Aaron is nice and willing to help you whenever.
Make sure you use the study guides- he can make the quizzes tough. Do the readings too. He makes the info easy to understand and will haelp if you ahve questions. Good Econ Prof!
I HATE this class! What a useless subject! The prof is alright but the subject should be banned from real academia! It is very conceptual and difficult. I really feel like I wasted my money!
Great Prof. Great, easy to understand lectures. Study your notes and you can Ace the exams. Very smart guy. Take him
Great Prof! He does two things extremely well: 1) make things interesting, and 2) brings the subject matter to a level in which you can understand it. I highly recommend this professor!
Professor is average, subject is awful, a complete waste of my time. If game theory was applied to real life scenarios it could be interesting. Too theoretical, not much breadth or depth. Prof is partially to blame, unless he is told what to do and cannot create his own class (seems to be the case).
Aaron is a great professor, its just that the class itself is terrible. I thought it would be entirely different, especially for a theme class for creativity. I would not recommend the class, but would recommend the teacher
This class sucks, but Aaron is a great prof. Some of the homework we were given was vague and difficult to do, but he's fair and willing to help you out. Very good at relating to students. If you have to take ECO 342 get him, and definitely take him if he's teaching a different Econ class.
Hard class, but understandable.
Bad class/prof combo. Pretty much useless. Can I have my money back?
Awesome prof! Class builds upon previous class periods so attendance is required. Material is difficult at first but once you grasp the basics the class is much easier. Aaron does a wonderful job explaining things. If you EVER need help he is willing to meet almost any time outside of class to help you. I would recommend this class with Aaron!
Great, very helpful prof. Class is challenging but not bad if you read the book and articles and really try the homework. Now I see game theory everywhere I look. Solid class.
Exams are very hard, but he tries to make class interesting and is willing to help if you have problems
Didn't think I would like the class at all however I was surprised by how much I actually did. Aaron involves the class so its not just sitting and listening to him lecture. The tests were too bad, we always got him to let us use a cheat sheet/notecard. Go to class, listen and you will do fine.
This class at first is seems overwhelming, but I really learned a lot! Aaron is one of the most helpful profs I have met, I highly recommend him and this class. I took this class in the summer...really long classes, but not once was I board in his class!
Professor Lowen is great teacher. He is able to take a fairly mundane subject and make it interesting and learnable. His tests are easy if you study exactly the homework. The homework is probably the most time consuming part, as it is long. But he is always available to help. Also, he is a younger professor, so that helps.
Great Econ Class--not sure why it's part of the creativity theme? Workload much harder than the typical theme class. A fair guy, exceedingly helpful, and a good teacher. Looking for an easy theme class? Move on. Willing to work and want to learn about game theory? You're in the right place.
Great professor. Only complaint is there were only 2 exams, and A LOT of info to take in for each exam. The experiments were fun, though they were the only two "homework" assignments. Tough class, well taught.
Hard to concentrate on game theory when your professor is so cute! But, I learned a lot, too.
Aaron's very interesting. I liked going to his classes. Not too bad on the eyes, either... BONUS!
He's funny and has a really practical approach to teaching. I know I'm not the first person to say it, but he really is very attractive. I wonder what the school policy is about students having crushes on teachers.... can they make rules against that? :)

Aaron is a great professor, by far the best prof I have had at GVSU! Class is difficult but he is very willing to help. Makes class interesting and lectures don't seem bad at all, class goes by fast! Definitely take him! Wonderful!
Makes class very interesting. Subject is tough, but he is very helpful and fair with grading. Take Him!
As long as you follow along with lecture and understand the game concepts, the class is not all that bad.
Knowledgeable. Enthusiastic. Personable. Lectures are understandable, and he uses students' time spent in class well. However, the exams are more difficult than the material would lead you to believe, because TIME becomes a critical factor.
Aaron is a super nice guy, you will love him. However, his exams are pretty hard, and the quizzes are harder and you NEVER have enough time to finish them! He never follows along with the sylabus and is just overal a hard Prof.
Awesome professor, one of my favorites at GV. Down to earth, friendly, funny, and VERY knowledgable. Class is very difficult, but you will learn a lot, and curves are huge, so you can get a good grade with effort.
Very tough class but learned a lot!
This professor has an exceedingly rare combination of professional competence as a researcher and effectiveness as an educator. The first exam is difficult; the next two are easier. There is a group project (paper based on research or in-class experimental data) and presentation. Two classes are spent watching Dr. Strangelove. Note: play "mean".
Too much noice from nothing! Did not learn from his lectures or pointless assignments. The book is a very good to understand easy material. The tests are trucky and hard for this simple and USELESS subject. Aaron is a good entertainer and makes easy to spent time in the class. Did he think to move to Hollywood or Las Vegas? I prefer his show there
Aaron is a great prof - very enthusiastic about his field. It's refreshing to have a grad school prof who is a native english speaker! His quizzes are a challenge and he really knows how to ask questions that make you think hard about the topic.
Good teacher. With all of the little quirks that made him slightly irritating, I still say he's great and I'm glad I had him over anyone else.
Take this class with this prof or you will forever hate yourself. Amazing.
He was a very fun and interesting teacher. He made the subject easy to understand, but his tests were tough. He does give you a 4x6 notecard to put anything on it you wanted to. So as long as you come to class and know what he says you will do well in the class. Go LOWEN!!!
Aaron is a fantastic prof. who obviously loves teaching. Very easy to interact with, very clear on what is expected, and keeps the class interesting most importantly. This class was a lot of work, (intensive weekly quiz/exam(s) but that should be expected from an MBA class. Highly recommended.
The class and subject matter was demanding, but Aaron was a great professor. Very personable and encouraging to students. His quizzes are tough so be prepared!!
I took this class as part of my creativity theme requirement and found it had nothing to do with creativity and it is pretty much a weak way for the school to get students to take economic classes. We worked with theory of games and solved math equations and didn't really play games. Pass on this class. Lowen does rule though take him for soemthing
Lowen is not that good of a prof. He comes off as very "proud" of himself. He does not like to explain things too clearly. He likes to talk about his daughter and how she is smarter than most of his students. He may be better for other classes than this games class, but overall I would pass on him and ECON 342.
Aaron is a nice guy, but not a very good professor. He doesn't explain things too clearly, and his quizzes are almost impossible to score highly on. I would not take him again.
Best prof at GVSU, hands-down. Lowen is very smart and very sarcastic. His weekly quizzes are nearly impossible, but are graded on a curve so it balances out just fine. Class requires a lot of work to do well, but you'll learn a ton if you pay attention and do the work. Take him if you can.
Very hard class, but well worth the effort. Prof. Lowen is very clear, and very very good instructor. He has high standards, but you can meet them if you work at. I highly recommend this professor.
Take ECO210/211 instead of 200. Prof makes it liveable tho. Uses humor to break up an otherwise ugly class. You'll do fine if you read the chapters in advance b/c he isn't lying when he says he expects you to do it.
Don't take this class or this professor or you will regret it. IT is ridiculously hard and extremely stressful.
Lowen's one of my favorites at GV. He runs a tight ships where you know what's going on and he grades like a maniac but it all comes out in the wash in the end with the sick curve he puts on.. By far the most entertaining ECON class I've ever taken
Prof. Lowen was a very good professor OUTSIDE of the classroom. Most of his lectures in the first few weeks of class were confusing and I had to utilize the book. His grading/curving is odd. I would HIGHLY recommend using his office hours for help b/c written instructions are useless. However, this was the class I learned the most from this year.
Knows his stuff, but all over the board (literally and figuratively). He'll tell you want he wants for assignments, but in generic terms. Read the book and study notes and be sure to remember the things that he covers just once in class cause ANYTHING is fair game.
Very helpful, and kept three-hour night classes interesting. Really knows his stuff, and does a great job making sure the class is moving at the right pace. Learned a ton and enjoyed it. Definitely recommended.
Excellent professor. The course is somewhat challenging at first but once you grasp the intuition behind game theory it becomes easier. The exams were not bad IF you studied the material more so than just the night before.
Outstanding Professor. A credit to the university and his profession. His lectures are relevant, interesting, clear and often fun. The term project is difficult, and graded rigorously. The midterm and final are brutal. The knowledge gained, however, is priceless. Also, the final grade is curved.
Fantastic professor. Aaron is very demanding, but will teach you valuable material for the MBA program. He expects you to read and contribute something relevant to class discussions. Aaron is intelligent, helpful, and has a sarcastic sense of humor that helps you get through three hours of night classes. He wants to help - visit his office.
He needs to record his lectures for video. All these professors should (i.e. Khan academy style). We students need more control over the pace of the content. I could not stand the guy.
He clearly was picked on in high school. A nerd to say the least. Overall, he does a good job at telling corny jokes and making the lecture interesting. He is a good professor.
Professor Lowen was very rude, and made the classroom a hostile learning enviroment. I had to re-take the class with another Prof. Wish I would have taken the second prof. the first time.
Very hard grader. Everything is either right or wrong, there is no gray area. Good personality though which makes class at least bearable. Definitely knows his stuff. Curves exams. Frequent quizzes. Study and read a lot if you want an A. Likes to not explain extraneous assignments very much, I mean the directions are there but of no help.
I expected a lot from the class.
Prof. Lowen does a great job teaching the material, although he expects you to read the text first. His personality made it easy for me to stay engaged (Econ is NOT my area of interest). He's a tough grader & the directions he gives on assignments are sometimes not very helpful/well explained, but if you have to take Econ I'd recommend him.
I loved Lowen. The sense of humor this guy has makes up tenfold for the difficulty of the material sometimes. I only got a B, but I loved the class. I learned a ton and was challenged and you couldn't ask for a funnier guy to teach you about some boring stuff at times. Dealing with some health problems, he was very understanding as well.
Good guy. Super smart. Great sense of Humor. READ the Chapters. DO the practice problems. GO to office hours. ASK questions. Otherwise, many will be lost.
Aaron Lowen is a great professor. He is the reason I became an economics major! He takes material that on the surface just seems like numbers, and turns into real life situations that area easy to understand. Amazing prof! Never a dull moment.
He has an awesome sense of humor, is really down to earth, and makes the subject interesting for people like me who have zero interest in anything to do with econ. He grades tough, but fair, and is crystal clear with what he expects from you. Everyone should have an opportunity to meet him at some point in their academic career.
Aaron is really fun to talk to if you go to his office hours but he expects a lot from students. Gives great real world examples but the tests are more closely related to the book.
Prof. Lowen is amazing! He really cares whether or not his students get the material, and is always willing to sit after class to discuss any questions. He's a really friendly and funny, and makes a somewhat boring topic understandable. Exams and homework are hard, but he gives plenty of time and goes over material really well. BEST econ professor!
Prof. Lowen is way to advanced in the econ field to be teaching a 211 course. The exams he purposely makes hard so you have to really know what you are learning. Quizzes based on the chapters pre-lecture, if you read they are an easy 10 points. Info Lit paper isn't bad. Overall if you're good at econ I recommend him, but not if you struggle
I thought he was a decent professor. He is very willing to help his students out and really wants everyone to succeed. Exams are very hard, but he lets you go back and get half credit. Also just put an answer down for the quizzes and exams cause he will give you half credit from the start if you just attempt to answer the question.
Incredibly tough grader and gives the absolute worst directions out of any professor I have ever had at GVSU. Nice guy but bad teacher.. Try to avoid
I took Honors ECO211 w him. Aaron is fantastic. I am NOT an econ person, but I enjoy his class a lot. A very tough grader and theres a LOT of work associated with his class but i didnt hate going. Doesnt take attendance, but you probably wont do well on exams if you dont go. Always willing to help you if you need it. Fairly understanding as well.
