Amazing teacher! extremely helpful, goes out of his way to help you understand the material. Reading is a MUST, just make sure you read the chapters he assigns and whatever you don't understand, he will explain in class. very funny! and a very fun class, tries to keep it interesting! this class is required for graduation, *I recommend him!
He is an awesome teacher! If you don't understands the materials, ask him! he'll try his best to help you out so you can understand the materials better or fully. Bonus, the attendance is not mandatory but he'll bump you final grade "a letter up" if you have zero or one absence. He also gives extra credit paper which is very easy.
Martin is straight forward and clear about what he expects you to know for the exams. Showing up and taking notes will get you far in his class. He gives you a study guide and even lets you use notes for exams. Interesting class, well taught.
Amazing teacher! He wants you to do good in his class. HIGHLY recommend him. He is so cool, and is always there to help you. Textbook is crucial. He gives an awesome review for each exam so STAY for it. Attendance is part of your grade.
I took Aaron for political science this semester, and he was by far my favorite. He knows what he's talking about and how to tie it into the real world. You can fill out a notecard for the tests and use it. Easy to get an A. And if you only have one absence, he bumps up your letter grade, for example a b would be an A. Definitely recommended.
UNBELIEVABLY AMAZING!! Hands down the best professor at Wayne state I had so far! Extremely helpful, fair grader, and all you have to do is read the chapters that he assigns, come to class and enjoy your time there. You'll actually want to come to class. I took him last year and got an A, and loved every minute of it !
HANDS DOWN BEST PROFESSOR AT WAYNE STATE! this class was fun, easy, and got you running towards the door to get in. All you have to do is read the chapters, participate in class, and enjoy the time there. I got an A, and if my other classes weren't in the way, I would take him AGAIN just for fun! TAKE HIM!!! you won't regret it!
AARON WAS GREAT!! ALTHOUGH IT WAS A LECTURE CLASS AND IT WAS BORING AS HECK!! I LITERALLY WENT TO SLEEP EVERYDAY AND RECEIVED AN A AT THE END. HE BARELY GIVES OUT ASSIGNMENTS AS LONG AS YOU TRY YOU ARE GOOD. AND HE MAKES IT CLEAR WHAT WILL BE ON THE EXAMS. AND AT THE END IF YOU HAVE PERFECT ATTENDANCE HE RAISES YOUR GRADE A ENTIRE LETTER GRADE!!
One word:AMAZING! I had no interest whatsoever in political science, after taking his class I loved it. He makes sure you understand the subject rather than just memorizing stuff. Fair exams, fair grader, tries to help as much as he can. You might not like his class the first week but later on you WILL. He is also very funny. Highly recommended.
This guy is really cool and takes the time to make sure you actually learn the subject. He is young and full of energy (unlike most of your other professors). Plus if you attend all of his classes, he bumps you up an entire letter grade. There shouldn't be any problem what so ever getting an A...unless you are extremely lazy. Best teacher ever!
This guy is awesome. He loves the material but thinks the class itself is boring. Tests are matching definitions. Lets you go early on Wednesdays to go to the Farmer's Market.
He's a chill guy
Although his lectures are kind of difficult to follow at times, Dr. Martin is by far the best HON1000 professor. Visit his office hours to turn your A- essay into an A (don't know anyone who got less than an A-.) Fun, clear, and inspiring. All quizzes are take home. Not a difficult class at all. Can't wait to take his class next semester.
Dr. Martin is by far one of the best Honors professors. He is hilarious, really helpful, and almost always willing to help you. He gives great feedback on essays and analyzes Dean Herron's dull lectures in a way that is sensible and easy to understand. I wrote all my essays the day before they were due and never read any of the books and got an A.
Dr. Martin is very good. He is very easy going and is always there if you need help. He is straight forward with what he expects in his essays. Take his class!
I took him two semesters, for honors 1000 and this. He is very passionateloves what he does which makes the class 10x more enjoyable. He's very kind and understanding. Beware though, he says he doesn't give pop quizzes but he does over the readings, he just calls them "reading assessments," don't be fooled. He's the best, take him.
I ABSOLUTELY adore Dr. Martin. He's funny, nice, and very helpful. Just do what he says and pay attention in class. He also genuinely wants you to do well in all your classes so just show him you're trying. Dr. Martin is also the better than all the other honors senior lecturers because he cares a lot and works hard. He's really chill too, take him
Regret having to drop his class for HON1000. Hands down best professor. Always there to clarify and explain your paper or question. Quick to respond your emails in detail. He also provides notes for the week's readings. P.S. Remember to read the title of the assigned readings.
Best professor I've ever taken.. he is not an easy A, he expects a lot out of you. He grades based off of effort and participation. He is an awesome guy and loves what he does. Very helpful, and always available if you need help. I wish I could take him for all my classes.
Dr. Martin is a great professor and clearly loves what he does. Do the work, go to his office hours to fix up your papers, put in some effort and there's no reason for you not to get an A. He gives a few pop quizzes (pay attention to the readings titles...). Great feedback. Really wants you to succeed and learn. Would definitely recommend!
Dr. Martin was an amazing professor. He believes that his students are capable of the best if they just put the effort in. He takes the time to write very helpful feedback on essays, which really helped me improve my writing. Although I am not a big fan of the subject Political Science, I really enjoyed being in Dr. Martin's class.
Dr. Martin is hands down the best professor in the honors college. He was so funny, helpful, and knowledgeable. He really knows his stuff, and applies it to real life issues. He gives very detailed feedback on papers and tests, and you can tell that he cares. Oh, and he hates vague, imprecise language. Take him, you'll be glad that you did!
Dr. Martin is a great professor! Lectures are always entertaining. There are a few essays to write and he gives detailed papers on what he want in each essay. Come to class on time and participate and you will get a great grade
gives good feedback on assignments. intelligent and very knowledgable on current events, which he talks about in seminar. passionate. attend seminar and lecture and do the readings and you'll most likely get an A. he's a great instructor for a boring course. will definitely take him for honors PS 1010 .
Simply put, Dr. Martin's awesome. His passion for what he does is so inspiration. LOVED! FYI: his classes go quick, register ASAP. Key points 1) don't skip lecture, and definitely don't skip seminar 2) go to his office hours 3) do great on your papers, that's one of the major ways he communicates with you, lol. 4) he loves participation.
Dr. Martin really kicked me into gear, he was the professor I needed for my first semester at WSU, his class wasn't easy, and I'm glad it wasn't because that's exactly what was needed for me to realize this isn't something I can screw up, Dr. Martin was there for me, he believed in me, you won't regret having him as your lecturer
Dr. Martin is one hell of a professor. He knows what he's talking about. He's passionate about the material. Probably the BEST senior lecture to take for Honors an PS. He gives amazing feedback on essays. The class itself if sort of tough but as long as you try and he sees that, he won't hesitate to help you out.
Dr. Martin is a very helpful professor. He keeps you on your toes with pop quizzes as well as expects your participation in his class. I mean participation as in not only answering questions, but also asking questions and giving your own alternative answer to a question or discussion in general. He is a very awesome teacher.
if you want an A show up to lecture and seminar on time every week and follow his grading instructions. basically caring about what he wants will go a very long way in this class. his lectures are entertaining and engaging. overall, he's such a great guy; super smart, kind and funny. best lecturer in the honors college. he is simply the best.
When a page full of people tells you to take this guy's class, you should! I had him for two semester and he is REALLY the best! He's intelligent, kind, FUNNY and knows how hard it is being a student so will be lenient. Just do exactly what he tells you to do, go to his office hours if you need help with the papers, and you are GUARANTEED an A.
Dr. Martin is a nice guy and really cares for your grade. However, his teaching style makes it hard to understand what is being taught. The class is very heavy on reading and failing to do so will make the class very difficult.
LOVED his class! He was an amazing professor. The discussions were always interesting, and ps1010 wasn't a walk in the park with the 20 page paper at the end of the semester, but Dr. Martin helps a lot with breaking down everything that you need! I improved as a writer from this class. Just come to class, do the work, participate, and you're good
extremely intelligent and caring.
I really enjoyed taking PS 1010 with him, his lectures are interesting and engaging, and he gives credit where credit is due. Always show up to class (on time) and put effort into the essays and you'll do fine!
Super nice teacher who really cares about his students. If you put in the effort and time you will do fine. Go to his office hours if you need help, he's super nice and helpful. 2 things to beware of though 1.)he is very liberal so be prepared to hear very liberal viewpoints 2.)He says he doesn't give pop quizzes, but he does. However they're easy
Dr. Martin literally has my heart; his lectures are so engaging and make you want to change the world. He may seem like a jerk at first, but you have to get used to his personality (it's an amazing one). He genuinely cares about his students and is very passionate. Follow his directions, never miss class, and you will be fine. Very admirable.
Dr. Martin's lectures just gets better and better in each class and since the class is an accelerated 7.5 week course, the workload is quiet heavy but absolutely doable. Your grade consist of many small summaries, a presentation, poster, discussion in class. He's a good dude, you'll love him; just take his class!
Dr. Martin is the best lecturer I've ever had. Passionate, engaging & genuinely interested in what you think about the material. Big on papers & reading. He expects participation & punctuality but is very forgiving so long as you put forth obvious effort. He sincerely cares; he WILL learn your name & help you out as much as he can. Simply the best!
Dr. Martin is a great professor. He expects a lot, and he is always willing to go out of his way for each of his students. My only complaint is that he incorporates a lot of his personal political views into his lectures, which makes things very one-sided on the political spectrum. Besides that, I would highly recommend him.
Martin is very passionate. He can also be very frustrating. However, he really is here to teach you. If you get a bad grade on a paper, you ge the chance to fix that grade by using his feedback to improve your next paper. He enjoys discussions and loves to hear/read great arguments. He is VERY strict on attendance and VERY strict about no cellphone
Dr. Martin was cool. He incorporates his personal views into lectures and many conservative classmates didn't like that. BE ON TIME, there's a ton of readings (don't bother with them all), papers have to be good quality but if you improve from one to the next he lifts your previous grade. You will get an A if you do your work and put in effort.
I won't say you *need* to go to class every day as well as not be late, but you need to go to class every day and not be late. I received As and A-s on most of my papers, but ended up with a B- in the class. It's advisable that you do your work on time, if not early, including the ePortfolio and Passport assignments. Solid for dedicated students.
You must attend class and be on time, and you won't use your phone. Definitely liberal, if that's offputting to you, don't take him. Great lecturer, his lectures are really put together and thoughtful. Inspirational teacher for an honors class I frankly didn't want to take and still wish I didn't have to. His grading rubric can be bothersome.
Honestly his favorite papers by students are those that repeat his worldview back to him. While that may have been good for me, I don't see this as being conducive to a true learning environment. He will say differently, but his behavior definitely reflects one who views his own position as being correct, period. He was nice though. A is attainable
Dr. Martin is a great professor to take for both HON1000 and PS1010 but, be advised- if you miss an assignment, turn it in late, or miss class for no reason chances are it will count against you. Overall, his classes are easy, as long as you do well on all of the major assignments, like papers and projects you will get an A.
Attendance is the most important thing to him and as long as you can make it to every single class on time and put in effort on your assignments, it should be an easy A. He wants his students to pass and does care. Lenient grader (as long as you put in the effort), open-note quizzes, great lecturer. Overall 11/10 wish I could take him again
One of my favorite professors thus far here at Wayne. Extremely knowledgeable of the material and strives to make sure his students succeed. Understands different backgrounds and circumstances, and is willing to work with you. He can be really intimidating at first, but as long as you show up on time, and submit all your work, you'll be fine.
I'm going to be real, Dr. Martin is a great teacher who really cares and if you put in a lot of work, you will get a good grade but if you're looking for an easy option, look elsewhere.
Super easy class. Hardly did any reading. The research essay was annoying and tricky, but he guides you well enough to easily get an A. Loved Dr. Martin. Best honors professor and he requires A LOT LESS work. Take this professor!!! You will get an A!
He is an amazing professor. He makes you think about things in different ways. Class was always interesting and he is very funny. Assignments were straightforward and manageable. He may seem intense but is very kind and really cares about his students.
I felt like he was a really caring professor and it's easy to get an A as long as you submit a quality level of work. Sometimes I felt like he was unnecessarily intense tho and his speech patterns were a little annoying to me
Super available outside of class if you need anything. Lectures are amazing and really engaging. He gives great feedback and is willing to work with you as far as due dates go to ensure that you get the best possible grade. He really cares about his students and will do anything for them to pass. Also very pleasant and personable as a person.
Great Professor. He is really passionate about the material and wants you to succeed in his class. If you work hard, you'll be fine.
Called himself a deranged redhead in class. He is, but in the best way possible. Deeply passionate in small sections and has a cute dog that he's rightfully obsessed with. Recommend 10/10, feedback is very in depth, however is extremely fair with grading. Out of all my professors, he's been the most available. He really is there for you
Wrote all of my assignments last minute and still got an A. Very passionate about the material and makes lectures entertaining, even at 8:30 am! Office hours are great and he responds super quick to emails, even between 4-6 in the morning. If you are sick, email him ahead of time and he will be forgiving. Overall, a great prof.
Dr. Martin is strict about punctuality and can be a hard grader, but everything he does is for the benefit of the students. I became a much stronger research writer during his class, and his lectures were entertaining. He is easy to talk to and easy to get in touch with out of class. This prof genuinely cares about his students, and it shows.
Dr. Martin is GREAT! I really enjoyed this class, he is really passionate about what he teaches and you can tell! Take some time to do your work and you'll be fine. Super willing to help outside class and really wants to see you succeed and will give you every resource you need to do so and he is a very fair grader. Take his class if you can!!!
He knows what he's doing and what he's looking for - just follow his instructions and don't be afraid to email him outside of class for help
Graded on mainly attendance and papers. Gives barely any feedback that will help your papers. Very preachy and liberal and expects everyone to be the same. Tough tough grader super specific on how papers have to be. PLEASE do yourself a favor and don't take his class and give yourself stress. I know people who have suffered honestly. Save urself:)
Took Dr. Martin for the second time and I'd take him 10 more times if I could. I just love everything about his classes. He truly cares about you and is willing to help you as much as he could. There is no reason not to get an A if you follow what he asks for. He is really understanding and his classes are very interesting. Be always on time!
He grades only on the papers and attendance. He gives little to no feedback on the papers and nitpicks every little thing. Very harsh with grading, have to echo his beliefs in writing, and at the same time be unique. His lectures are not helpful AT ALL when it comes to writing the papers.
Dr. Martin is genuinely an amazing teacher. Through his class, I was challenged as a thinker and a writer. Dr. Martin shows genuine care for his students; if you show that you care about his class, he will help you get an A.
Do not be late for class and show up every week. Doctor Martin is one of the best professors I've had in my two years in college, he's incredibly knowledgable and fun to listen to. He grades fairly and gives you an A if you work for it. I would take a class with him again in a heart beat!
I really loved Dr. Martin and his class, but some don't share the same sentiment. If you show up, listen, and ask questions (in person or email), you will do well. He has a very distinct teaching style that some found boring, but I enjoyed. He knows a lot about the topic and cares about his class and students.
He is an excellent lecturer and makes the material interesting. He gives a lot of feedback on papers, which is most of your grade. He makes it easy to meet with him outside of class and is very helpful if you interact with him.
I took him for both HON1000 and HON2000. He is one of the most caring professors at Wayne and takes time to ensure you succeed. He is very easy to reach. You have to put in the work, but he makes it easier by giving a clear grading rubric and really good feedback. I highly recommend taking one of his classes.
He's a good speaker, but can have some awkward silence moments in between his sentences. He has his own opinions he's not afraid to share, but he's also welcoming to other points of view.Hon2000 is a bit more reading that Hon1000, but I think it's worth it for the lectures and for the grades. Most hw was just reading.
It's been over a year since I've taken Dr. Martin's classes and I still can't get over how AMAZING and caring he is. His classes are one of those classes you will still remember years after graduation and reflect on what you learned. I like to describe his classes as a must experience at Wayne. you wont regret taking his classes I promise.
Dr. Martin is great! He engages in thoughtful lecture and encourages students to really think outside the box. Does he talk too much for 8:30am sometimes? Yes. But he is extremely passionate about the course and is always willing to help students, and gives great feedback. (He's also lowkey kinda hot- dude's tatted all over)
Dr. Martin is just awesome. He's so chill and easy to talk to. Attendance is absolutely mandatory because it determines if you have to take the final. The two research papers we did were a challenge, but it was a good one. He provides extremely helpful and well-thought out feedback on assignments to help you improve.
No busy work and only two essays. They are graded leniently as long as you do everything required and put effort into them. The only thing that I did not like was that attendance was mandatory. You are given two points for each class you attend. If you have perfect attendance and an A in the class, you don't have to take the final.
Professor Martin was great and unlike a lot of classes I've taken, I never felt like I was wasting time in this class. The lecture was always engaging and professor Martin seemed to have a true passion for teaching. Even if you don't agree with his takes on certain things he's always respectful and you can tell he really cares about his students.
the class is great he's an amazing professor and very caring lectures are never boring and actually make you want to listen attendance is important very important most of your grade try not to skip unless it's actually an emergency wrote papers, but he walks you through it and provides assignments, so you don't fall behind on them.
Super great guy who just wants everyone to do their best. He always insists that people reach out to him if need be and knows how to balance a lenient and professional demeanor. Take him, you won't regret it.
After taking 3 classes with him, I literally teared up leaving his last class. Dr. Martin is truly inspirational! I am so grateful I was able to have him as a professor. He cares SO MUCH about his students. He even came to our graduation ceremony to congratulate us; I did not see ANY other professor do that. Hands down the BEST professor at WSU!
He's an amazing, clear, and fun professor! He explains everything well, and he will respond to any questions you have! He always says to reach out to him, and if you're confused, please do! He will definitely help you. He also offers extra credit, and his grading rubrics are easy to understand. Also, just make sure you read before class.
One of the best professors at Wayne, genuinely caring for his students. Always accessible via email, his lectures are thorough and insightful. Attendance matters, as he gives points for participation. He lets students with an A skip the final and provides great essay support. I'd take his class in a heartbeat—so much to learn! He will be missed!!
I took his Food class, where joining the book club let us skip essays. His lectures are in-depth, and he brings fresh perspectives. I learned a lot about food systems and was enlightened. The class isn't about changing eating habits. The final is manageable, and attendance earns points. Awesome professor—unmatched in excellence! Take his class.
Probably my favorite professor I've had at Wayne State. This is the only class I've ever taken that I've felt engaged the entire time during the lectures. Very reasonable grader and checks in with you consistently to make sure you're going on the right track for papers. Offers lots of easy extra credit opportunities as well!
The class was sometimes engaging. However, he is power-hungry. He does not care about your grade and grades papers based on what he would have written. Also, he is not a fan of athletes who have practice and other commitments. He is very unfair with the attendance policy and being on time even though we are all adults with lives.
Professor Martin was by far my favorite professor! He is extremely passionate when he teaches. For my class “Thinking Through Tech,” we had class readings with prompts due before the next class. Also, there are 2 essay-based tests for this class, along with a research project. He is so kind and helpful, and I can tell he cares about his students!
As long as you are committed to showing up to class, you will do great. It is not a hard course, but effort is necessary. Dr. Martin will help clarify anything you misunderstood. Also, he explains everything in the course without reference to slides and just really knows what hes doing.
hes amazing, definitely take his class!! He wants you to pass and do well, and he makes sure you're not lost at all. Also his lectures are very interesting.
