Very difficult class. He is a grad student, and he teaches the course like we are grad students. Only grades are 3 tests, and each test is one essay question. The answer he wants on the test is very specific, but the question is not so it is tough. He is very knowledgeable, but his lectures are all over the place. Take a different course.
not the most exciting class. you gotta bring to it what you want out of it. Tests are essay questions but if you read the chapters and pay attention its pretty easy. not a stickler for dates so that was great for the exams. read the assigned chapters and you will do great.
Good teacher but difficult. Kind of all over the place in his lectures. Good communication through e-mail and available after hours.
Good teacher but his lectures are all over the place. He is looking for specific answers on his exams and he requires an essay. Always available after hours and responds quick to e-mails. Likes it when you take an interest. I'd recommend him. Good looking too. :)
Veryy CHILL teacher!!
Extremely disorganized. Seems like no matter how hard you study it's impossible to do well.
dude's cool, his funny. he will help you, he doesn't want his students to fail but its not an easy A you defiantly have to work for it. (its 3 tests and an essay). my only complaint is that the lectures are re really scattered he writes all over the boards and you cant read his hand writing so you really have to listen, & take notes, you wont fail
He moves through lector pretty fast and jumps around so it can be hard to follow. Seemed to me more like a review with a few added details rather than really teaching. He give you the questions on the test before but expects a lot so you'll still have to study hard. Great guy though lots of fun.
-Intellectual teacher, he's invested into what he's doing. Makes intro-history classes interesting; doesn't make anyone feel stupid for asking questionsengaging. 4 tests during semester, 1 paper, tests are somewhat difficult you must study but not too bad overall. Enjoyed his class & lectures.
Overall great class, lectures can get all over but so long as you pay attention and take notes shouldn't be a problem
He teaches to his test so sometimes things that may seem important, like certain presidents, are skipped right over. Best taken if you've just had a history class before. His tests are hard, when you think you've included everything in your essay he finds something else you missed. His lectures are easy but he moves fast and jumps around a bit.
Lectures all class but will always answer your questions. Wants everyone to do well! The only downside for me was the paper--he didn't give out the topic until a week before it was due. If you can write well in a few hours, great! Not everyone can take "just a coupla hours" and produce a paper they'd want to turn in. Otherwise, great teacher!
Class is pretty easy, and he's a nice down-to-earth guy who'll always answer your questions. His syllabus is a study guide for the exams: make sure to use it. He goes over the questions on the exams in the class leading up to the test so you can cross off what wasn't covered. Only problem is that he never responds to e-mails (in my experience).
Great professor who knows what he's talking about. Don't worry about getting the newest version of the textbook, but definitely do the readings. Take good notes in class, and ask questions if you don't understand. Do your best to come to every class, because he'll practically tell you what's on the test. Not afraid to get into bad parts of history.
Teacher is okay for lectures. He goes through class with funny statements.
Funny guy but tough grader
Try hard, go to class, do your homework, ask for help. Not enough for this horrible guy! Tough grader, no matter how great your essays are, he will always find something wrong. Do not recommend him at all! Ps. His tests are hard as hell! This guy brought my gpa down by a lot!
Really great professor! Lectures are interesting and encourages discussion. Doesn't make you feel stupid and loves to talk to you about things you don't understand. Tough grader on essays, tests are a little rough, but not impossible to get an A. Make sure to attend lectures, study and communicate with him. He does offer tons of extra credit.
The guy is cool but screwed me over with my grade
Professor Reynolds is by far one of the best sources for history at ACC. He has witty personality and a plethora of information on U.S. history as well as Texas history. YOU HAVE TO READ IN THIS CLASS! This is an educational institution, not a night club. So put your big boy pants(or big girl)on before going to this class, I would recommend to all!
Usually lecture-heavy classes are boring but his are amazing. Really chill and helpful, you honestly don't even need to go to lectures but they're helpful. Don't buy the textbook he has a website for you to use. Just study the learning objectives thoroughly and you're good to go
doesnt use slides or notes just talks so its hard to know what info you need and makes the class sooo long and boring, but he cares for his students passing and is reeeaaaaallllly nice and will work with you to make you pass. and attendance isnt required
Dr. Reynolds is a VERY great professor. Attached to the syllabus, there's a study guide with everything you need to know for each test. The study guide is almost identical to the actual test. He's a tough grader but if you go in for his office hours he'll tell you exactly what he expects. Also, his lectures are very easy to understand!
Syllabus includes questions. Be prepared to write. Nothing he says in class is relevant to test. READ. Practice the essays. Prepare to fail first test.
Great Profesor. There was no PowerPoint slides it's all just lectures and class discussions. It was hard to know what exactly was going to be on the test. There was no homework or a textbook required. I barely passed his class since I hate history. Everything you need for the test is on the syllabus. Includes a 1pg essay and 3 tests
I personally really liked Dr. Reynolds. He was very approachable and really funny. Unfortunately, I wouldn't take his class again. He uses no visual aids in lectures, he just talks and is pretty much all over the place. He was hard to keep up with and I had to study extra hard. Reviews had not much to do with test, which was also very complex.
Dr Reynolds rhetorics are inspirational. Attached to the sulybus are potential questions on the test. You just have to connect his lectures with questions and you can pass easily
I've taken Professor Reynolds for US History 1 and now for US History 2. He is awesome! He does skip around in his lectures, but he is very available in the learning lab, and is totally willing to answer all the questions someone has. He is super patient, and very laid back.
Theres only four grades for the whole semester. He doesnt do extra credit. However, his lectures are inspiring although he does go on tangents. Hes really approachable if youre having issues though. Just talk to him and hell help you.
He likes to skip around with topics so be prepare to teach yourself. The exams consist of one essay and a couple of questions. If the class does not participate he will randomly start calling on students.
doesn't provide slides, the things he writes on the board doesn't help at all. lectures don't relate to the questions on the syllabus and test.
Dr. Reynolds is a really knowledgeable professor, he knows the subject well and doesn't sweat the dates. (Whoop!) However, he does grade this freshman class as an upper-level class. The exams are all open-ended questions, including an essay on every exam. He grades tough but fair, if you get an A on your test, you will know you truly earned it.
He's pretty good at lecturing, keeps it interesting. Seems like a nice guy willing to help, however his tests are very difficult and require a substantial essay for every one. You will not pass without studying.
Although he has interesting lectures, he is rather unorganized and will often gloss over or not even mention material that is on the test. The study guide on the syllabus DOES NOT reflect the material on the exams. Overall a tolerable professor and nice dude, however he often fails to prepare students for the exam.
I took this class during the Coronavirus. He provides very little material outside of the textbook, just some documentaries. Be ready to write very many papers. Each test also consists of writing a paper and some short answer questions. He sets due dates and criteria ahead of time, but is a tough grader. You will have to read ALL of the textbook.
He is a nice guy, but grades very harshly and offers very little feedback on his grading (at least online). He is also not very good at responding to emails. However, I do want to reiterate that he does attempt to make his lectures interesting and is not MEAN or UNFAIR.
Took him online, Summer 2020. No lectures uploaded, only book/website. 3 tests, 2 papers. I stopped reading the book after test 1. All open note. Tests are 3-4 short descriptions, 1 essay question. Paper 1 over an essay, paper 2 expands on paper 1. Kind of guy who doesn't believe in giving an A unless it's actually phenomenal.
I was surprised by some of these other reviews. I thought professor Reynolds did a great job, was entertaining, quick to respond to emails, and an easy A so long as you did the work according to instructions. It is a writing and reading heavy class but thats just how history is. I totally recommend!!
Dr. Reynolds is a good man and teacher. However, this was my worst/least enjoyable class by far. That I've ever taken. I'm sure it has more to do with my learning type - and the fact that I was all-virtual - than the class/professor himself, but there was absolutely NO time to complete all the readings. Very tough grader. Difficult essays.
Prof. Reynolds was an awesome professor! First online ACC class & it went really smoothly, didnt require you to show up (i still did tho) & would record the session & upload to BB for others to watch. Essays & Papers were pretty easy & as long as you got the idea/outline of what you were talking about, you get a good grade!
A good guy, knows a lot about history. Has 3 tests and 2 papers, nothing else. Read the textbook or you wont pass.
Nice guy, but gives no feedback on exams and papers and is a tough grader.
This class was okay. You can tell he tries to make his lectures interesting, but it just ends up being him talking about everything and nothing for an hour to an hour and a half. The only assignments you'll really have are papers and tests, which if you put in enough effort and use good evidence, you'll pass.
Professor Reynolds was a great teacher! Tough but very, very fair if you did your part. If you did your best and you were still behind, he might allow you to make it up with a redo, based on your work ethic in the class. Talk to him in person because it may be a while for an email response.
Very good class with interesting lectures. If you study the review sheet the day before and make a good you should do fine on the 3 exams the class has. On the papers as long as you read it with slight understanding you'll do great. There aren't very many assignments so make sure you do well one them.
There are only a few papers, but he's very clear about what you need to do and is available for editing. His lectures are entertaining and he's very down to earth
Prof. Reynolds is very simple and straightforward, his syllabus is very clear. There are total 5 assignments for his class which includes Exams. He is quite a tough grader who doesn't give feedback, other than that he is a nice professor and his guidelines and lectures are very clear.
Dr. Reynolds was very clear and straightforward with his expectations. He was a tough grader, but fair. He gave a fair amount of time to complete the 2 papers and 3 exams. Course is heavy in reading and writing. The exams were short answer and essay...so lots of writing. He was very quick to respond. His BB lectures were recorded.
Pretty simple class - 3 exams and 2 papers. For a 5 week online course it's very straight forward and easy. Won't give you an A unless it's "perfect", so be prepared for a B at best. Essay prompts are a little ridiculous - you'll be answering 4-5 different points and trying to piece it all together, wondering if it's right or not. Lots of reading
Prof Reynolds is passionate about US history and enjoys teaching it. He does not follow any powerpoints for his lectures but draws concept maps on the board, which as a visual learner, I really appreciated. He always encourages questions and participation (including staying after class), and is a tough grader who sees and rewards effort.
Dr. Reynolds was a great professor, who always gave amazing lectures that were informative and helped me pass the class. He grades fairly and easily, and provides feedback if needed. I would take his class in the future.
Very friendly and professional. Class was lecture heavy.
If you are a good writer then this is a good class for you. There are 5 grades and they are purely writing based. He does grade hard but he has amazing lectures,
This professor did absolutely nothing to prepare the students for the class. Not only did he not lecture anything by himself, but he also didn't even make rubrics for how he graded. On top of that, he gave everyone terrible grades without even providing feedback for how to improve on later assignments. By far the worst professor I've had.
If you care about your grade or learning much at all in this course, do NOT take professor reynolds. He doesn't provide lectures online, or guide us through anything whatsoever besides giving a reading or two. There is no clear grading criteria, and he grades extremely harshly without feedback. Make sure to attend office hours if you want a chance.
This guy is the worst professor I've ever taken. It was online and there was no lectures and he graded terribly without feedback.
As a student who is confident in their writing and reading skills, I was dismayed when I received my first few grades. When I took a history course this past year, I was one of the, if not the, top students in my class. Then Professor Reynolds dropped a B and a C on two out of the five assignments that we have in this course. Do better, please.
After getting an A on the first assignment and spending many hours writing, I thought that this professor would be very fair and understanding that we are high schoolers with high school level writing. But after seeing my friend's grades we realized he does not care and doesn't provide any feedback or a clear grading criteria. Do not take.
As someone that is more than confident in their writing abilities, when I received my first few grades I was bewildered to say the least. He is the toughest grader I have ever had for seemingly no reason. Do NOT take his course.
Takes forever to grade, and gives no feedback just bad grades. Doesn't teach or clarify rubric or anything either.
I took this as an asynchronous summer 5-week class. He posts long documentaries every day in place of lectures. Grading criteria for essays & exams are virtually nonexistent and he provides no feedback for the grades he gives. Expect no higher than a B as he almost never gives A's on any assignments.
Bro. How did i even end up taking his class. He's like my immigrant parents - nothing is enough to make him happy. I did the impossible and read an entire 41 page article for the first paper and wrote a good analysis and he gave me a C and refused to tell me why. This man is NOT Ryan Reynolds.
The negative reviews for Reynolds are hilarious but not accurate. Yes, he is a tough grader and you must be proficient at college writing. He gives no rubric but provides the standards he grades by, just make sure you answer every point in his prompts. This is a great class if you prefer writing over proctored exams. I took Hist 1 and 2 and got As
Course taken through dual-credit. Essentially, there are 5 graded assignments (3 tests & 2 papers). Don't be frightened, he's accessible through email & lectures are great. Ask questions for reaffirmation or general inquiry. Makes you think for yourself regarding test/paper answers, but I found txtbook unneeded in my case. Overall, great professor.
Wow ... I'm really surprised by these negative comments. He's a tough grader yeah but if you follow his rules and answer what he's asking for, there'll be no problem. Follow exactly the rubrics on his syllabus and you'll get a good score. He responds to email and ready to help. There were 3 exams and 2 papers.
Not only does he grade extremely hard with no feedback provided, he only has 5 grades for the entire semester, not allowing you to make up your grade. He lectures without any aid from drawings or writing on the board, it's incomprehensible, and he never posts anything to BlackBoard (even if you ask him too,) so if you miss class good luck.
This class made me cry. All of the in-class lectures were impossible to follow and covered very few topics. The board would be scribbled on every class making taking notes on his lectures utterly painful. Never received any feedback on my writing and didn't have a rubric to follow.
He just talks to himself the whole class and goes on random rants that aren't relevant. The class was mostly a waste of time. Be ready to read documents that make no sense, take hours to read, and are 35 pages long. His grading was very unclear and gave no feedback and is only impressed when your paper aligns with his beliefs on the subject.
do not take this class, learned so little and ended up withdrawling
Dr. Reynolds was a great professor. He gives a total of 5 assignments throughout the semester. His grading scale can be hard, but If you follow his rubrics and give the answers he mentioned in lectures, you are likely to have no problem succeeding. He is a great guy, and I highly recommend this course, as It is low-stress, and not too challenging.
Harsh grader, no feedback. Yap and you will get a C. Do exactly what the rubric says, get a B. Do WAY MORE, get an A. This means 1500+ word essays, quotes every other sentence, indepth analyses. Cs and lower can be raised to B with rewrite. Don't watch the videos, they are a time suck. Email for any and every question, and READ THE WHOLE SYLLABUS
As long as you ask questions, he's a pretty good professor. Rounds grades up based on improvement, even an 86 can be rounded to an A. Cons: No in between grades, can only get up to a 95 on assignments.
This professor grades terribly. He has added ways to bring your lower grade up to no higher than a B if you rewrite it, however, he will only post the grading criteria afterward and they contradict everything based on your grade. I obtained a C for no reason due to not getting an A+. No clear rubric, unfair grading, no clear help. Awful logic
3 Exams & 2 Papers (1500-3000 words). My class was asynchronous so it was lots of reading & writing, im talking 5 chapters, 50 pages each, per unit. no camera & no timer on tests & all short answer & essay questions are posted in the syllabus. However, will post tests late and randomly change the questions. If you are not good at writing dont do it
14 weeks asynch materials: 1-2 weekly videos (some 4 hours) 2-3 weekly readings (some take over an hour to read), a textbook- 5 chapters per unit (each taking over an hour to read and I'm a super-fast reader), and 3 books, the last two being over 300 pages, and the first one was a book written on the stock market from over 100 years ago. No thanks
Overall, I feel the layout of his course was pretty easy to navigate, but his grading criteria was all over the place during the time I had him as my professor. He doesn't provide any sort of meaningful feedback to your papers. The times I submitted a paper and received a lower grade than expected, I didn't get not one piece of advice nor reasoning
You will get no feedback on your tests or papers just grade. He gives very vague instructions on his assignments and test. This was a 5 week dual credit course for me during the summer and totally ruined my GPA. You cannot have anything else going on in your life if you want to pass. Hard pass if you are concerned about GPA
His grading system is honestly super confusing, do what he ask and receive a c or lower, go above and beyond and you're sure to get a good grade. I did this class for Dual Credit and honestly it was the worst 5 weeks of my life. Please only take this class if you're ready for the challenge.
Gives 24 hours notice for 3 page essays due the following night. Gives no feedback on why he grades so hard. Posts a bunch of links with no real correlation to the assignments. Doesn't throughly explain. No video lectures.
Took his 5 week summer course, honestly, the most confusing class I've had. He'll add multiple videos/documents that prob take longer than the whole summer itself to review. Finished the assignments on time following his criteria, got a C without explaining why. If you take him and have a gut feeling on the first day, DROP IT IMMEDIATELY!!!!
My effort in this class was not 100% there; however, the class was much harder to take as Professor Reynolds did not provide direct feedback upon returning the exams/papers with the grade. In itself, if you spend most of your day working on this class, you should do well. Only being able to receive feedback through office hours made it difficult.
No feedback upon returning papers. Unclear prompts as well as only receiving feedback during office hours.
I am really bummed. I wish I had known about this website before taking his class. I do not know what my average is in the course. There is no feedback on grades, no assignments to help learn. Confusing about what you actually should focus on. Be prepared to write an essay, thinking it covered his rubric, and still not do well.
