Fun class and teacher, what other techer openly admits he really only watches cartoons

It was my favorite class all semester. His lessons were interesting and I learned a lot in that class.

Great guy with fantastic teaching methods. His enthusiasm is contagious...learned more in his classes than any others I took at ISU. His tests are tough but fair, and you actually feel like you've accomplished something when you complete his class!

I reiterate all the comments made above, except for the bad ones. To those, all I have to say is that arrogance is a natural by-product of superiority, so if Dr. Smith is the former, it's only because he's the latter.

He was amazing. Very intelligent and so enthusiastic about the course. He really enjoys teaching. I disagree about the comments on his one on one time. I think he's helpful no matter what. He only wants the best of out his students. No slackers.

This man LOVES what he is doing, and is excellent at keeping student interest in class. He is one of those people that inspires me in my field. He expects alot of his students, but he also gives you what you need to do it. I've never been so excited to write a 20 page paper! I love his smile and the geek glasses! Very hot.

Dr. Smith is amazing. I've never met someone so passionate and knowlegable in his field and yet can still relate to his students. He is both friendly and entertaining. I recommend him to ANYONE!

Great professor, terrible TAs. Makes things somewhat easy to understand, but there is a lot of material to cover in a short amount of time. Tests are hard, but not so bad if you study. Don't miss class, they don't make powerpoint available online anymore. I got a B in the class, but I worked for it.

I think he is a good teacher, however, I believe his tests are too "nit-pickey", therefore confusing the student. I earned a C in the class (after getting low B's on the tests). I don't really feel that it was fair. Also, the analysis project wasn't explained very well, and it shows in my final grade.

K. Aaron Smith is the best teacher I've had at ISU. He has a way of explaining the material that makes it so interesting. I never missed one of his classes. And he is, not that it matters...but extremely sexy. The girls love him, the guys want to be him. If he were teaching, I don't know, [insert boring subject] it would be interesting!

One word...phenomenal. If you can take a class with him, DO IT!!!! One of the best teachers I've had here at ISU, hands down.

Best. Teacher. Ever. Eng 241 is hands-down the best class I've had in college (I'm currently a junior). I learned SO much about the English language, and he's inspired me to stick with Eng. Educ. He's incredibly smart and makes class really fun and interesting. I'd recommend taking a class with him and Dr. Susan Kim-- they're a great team!!!

Want an AMAZING prof at ISU??? Here he is! He is funny, engaging, passionate, and knows what he is talking about. His funny stories and witty comments will give you the laugh you need when the material is getting dry. He is always willing to answer questions and help as much as he can. THE TEACHER to have a class with before you graduate!!!!!

Grammar is FUN with this professor! He's witty and everything you'd ever want in a professor: nice, helpful, and smart. A great professor and you MUST TAKE HIM FOR GRAMMAR!!! I am taking him next semester for ENG 241 I CANT WAIT! :)

Dr.Smith is the best teacher I've had here. He's witty, helpful, and has a plethora of interesting outfits. I hated grammar until I discovered that Smith makes it fun, funny, and incredibly sexy. Keep rocking those turtle necks.

K. Aaron is the man. I'm not too sure if he's going to teach this class again since he was just filling in but this class was alright. Didn't interest me too much and was a little confusing but kaaron made it a little more bearable. If you are interested in Cognitive Science then do indeed take his class, you will love him.

I had him for Traditional/NT Grammar and it was my favorite class I've ever had. He is a grammar GENIUS. You really need to study and practice. He gets offended if people do bad, but why shouldnt he be? We are getting a great education from him and doing poorly just shows disrespect. Would take another class w/ him if I could. GREAT DRESSER!!

He's the best/awesome!! Do your work, come to class, go to office hours. And he's hot...super hot! The class is hard though. You need to read everyday and you need to create a study group that you can depend on and they can depend on you. The finals are a killer. His tests are hard but if you study like you have no other classes, you can get an A:)

Incredible teacher, whimsically sarcastic and blunt. Cares about his subject matter, talks quickly, always entertaining. If the phrase "The world is a stage" comes to mind, you've got the idea. Every class period is a performance and leaves the class asking for an encore as they clap and chant "Bravo." The class actually gasped in awe at times.

Intelligent and entertaining. Learned a ton from the class. Was easy: attend class, pay attention, study before tests. Any effort put into the class was more fun than anything else.

Professor Smith entertains his classes without leaving the actual teaching by the wayside. His wit and charm are unmatched. The coursework can be hard, but you only really struggle if you don't try because he teaches it so well.

He is hands-down the best teacher I've had at ISU so far. He is hilarious and is also a great teacher over all. He remembers everyone even in his big lecture classes. He really knows his stuff.

Hilarious, class was really fun, he has pretty mandatory attendance but you will see why once you have been to class a few times. He is really intelligent and really knows his stuff. grammar really isnt the most fun thing in the world but he makes class as fun as possible, if you are an eng major take this class! one of my favorite professors

Very funny. MC was really really hard on tests while diagram stuff was easy. You can only miss 3 classes and he doesn't take attendance for a grade which is b.s. Definitely study for the tests. My view is that you either do really good, eh, or really bad in this class. Take it with him though!

I hated grammar and wasn't looking forward to this class at all. Now I'm thinking about focusing on linguistics basically because of K Aaron Smith. He's one of the best teachers I've had here and I loved his class. Taking another with him this semester. Subject matter can be difficult, but he is very helpful. I highly recommend any class with him.

I liked him, but he's not the BEST EVER prof at ISU. I think ppl get a little crazy with that.. Study hard for the test (in class notes) and you will be fine. You need to go to class because most days there are quizzes or in-class assignments. Quizzes are hard but the tests are easier. Some of the material is boring but they try to make it fun.

I was a little nervous about taking a grammar course, but he makes the class really fun and as interesting as he can. He is HILARIOUS. I laugh every single day, and I never dread going to class. His tests are difficult, but if you put in a bit of work, it's not a hard class.

He is the best teacher I have had at ISU so far and I'm going on my 3rd year. His class is hard, but he is always willing to help. He is hilarious and very quotable!! Every day I laughed in his class and had a good time! His quizzes are insane but if you study, you'll be fine. I'm taking another class with him in the fall...Highly Recommended!!

He somehow takes grammar and makes it fun and entertaining. It is apparent that he really loves what he is doing and wants his students to do well. Always open to helping students and making sure they understand.

Dr. Smith is amazing! You're allowed to miss three class periods, but you probably won't want to because his class is amazingly entertaining. He's really helpful and clear. He also has a good sense of where the class is as a whole. I strongly recommend you take a course from him.

Smith is easily one of the best teachers I've had at ISU. He is extremely helpful and doesn't make you feel bad at all for interrupting to ask questions. I never wanted to miss class because he makes everything so much fun. Granted, his classes/exams are hard, but if you ask questions and do your work it should be too difficult.

I had Dr. Smith for ENG 243 and 241. He is a wonderful teacher and fun person. He cares about his students and will do anything possible to help them succeed, however his classes are HARD. you MUST study and read the testbooks. Quizzes and tests are very hard, NO EXTRA CREDIT. If you take his class and be prepared to learn a TON and work VERY hard

One of the best seminars I've had as a graduate student--this is how seminars are supposed to be, with the emphasis on the master-presenter (the professor) elaborating on a topic in depth, drawing from the immense expertise they have on the subject. Funny, engaging, intelligent, dynamic professor. Strongly recommend.

The best teacher I've had here. Wish I could take him for every class. Extremely interesting and engaging, hilarious, and very flexible. Has high expectations, but helps you 100% along the way. A must-take teacher.

The content of this class is pretty tough, but Dr. Smith is AMAZING. He makes me lol every class and manages to make grammar super interesting. He is willing to do anything for his students, as long as they're willing to put the effort in. He always makes time to help but gets mad if you're not taking things seriously. TAKE HIM FOR GRAMMAR!

I will "calmly and unemotionally" say that he is hands down the best professor I have ever had. He genuinely cares about his students' success and gets angry if people aren't up to their potential. He makes you want to learn more with the way he speaks. I would recommend him to anyone especially for grammar.

The epitome of an excellent professor. If you are an English major/minor and desire to learn, take him! I cant even begin to tell you how fulfilled you will feel after taking grammar with him. He answers all those questions your high school teachers couldn't. He's hilarious, he's genuinely concerned for your success and future, and his lectures are engaging. I think every professor I've ever had could benefit from his example.

I had this man for THREE DAYS as a guest speaker about linguistics in my IDS class and I already wish I was an english major so I'd have an excuse to take a full semester class with him. So engaging. Absolutely brilliant!

BEST PROF AT ISU! He is hilarious, intelligent, and captivating! I did not want to miss his class, because he is so interesting and engaging. The material he teaches is very difficult, but he teaches it in a way that everyone can learn and have fun while doing it. Highly recommended! This is my 2nd course with Dr. Smith and I wish I had more opportunities to take more courses with him. He is, by far, my most favorite professor I have ever had at Illinois State. Dr. Smith knows when to be serious and when to lighten up the room. He's funny, sexy, charming, and extremely intelligent. I could be in his class for hours on end :)

Quickly became one of my favorite professors. He just oozes with enthusiasm and cares about your grade just as much as you do. Take him if you have the chance.

This class is very hard for those who don't show up or take notes. But otherwise this class was the greatest class I have taken in my thus far three years at ISU!!! He gives plenty of time to learn the material but you MUST go to review, if for no other reason than just to hear dr smiths jokes. Good luck to all who take this class

Seriously one of the best teachers I have ever had in my life. The material is difficult, but his passion and personality keep the students interested. Every single lecture went by fast and I learned so much. I will definitely try to take more classes with him! Also, he is the funniest teacher ever! You won't be disappointed!

Dr Smith was a great teacher for Latin, he was beyond engaged in understanding what the students needed and adapted that into the lesson plans, I learned so much more from him than in Latin 1

He is an amazing professor. I learned so much in his class and am so glad I got a chance to take a class taught by him. He expects a lot from his students and it is important to read from the text and go to class in order to understand the material. You can tell he really loves teaching and makes the information interesting for his students.

An excellent professor to work with - papers were always relevant to the class and I learned a lot!

Take ENG241 with him and Doctor Kim. The two of them stand in the front and throw shade at one another for the whole lecture. It's hilarious even though the subject is really boring. Still a hard class, but you need it and this is by far your best bet IMHO.

I have actually taken multiple classes with Dr. Smith and I wish that I coule take many, many more. He is by far one of the smartest prople I have ever met- like, just standing in the same room as him makes me feel like I'm absorbing intelligence through osmosis. Also cares a lot about students, has amazing lectures, and is an all around great guy.

When I signed up for this class, I thought that I would hate it. I was quickly proven wrong because of Dr. Smith. He makes the content more appealing because of his passion for the subject matter. He taught this class with Dr. Kim. She is excellent as well. I wish that I could take more classes with both of them. I highly recommend both of these professors.

By far one of the most difficult classes I have ever taken but also my favorite class of all time. Dr. Smith is hilarious, brilliant, and engaging. I'm so glad I had him and Dr. Kim for this class, as they made an otherwise boring subject interesting and class was fun to attend. TIPS: Don't skip class. STUDY. Pay attention and take copious notes. Don't underestimate this class, as you are graded by few things. Dr. Smith is great!

The best professor I've had so far at ISU. I immediately signed up for another class with him. He's super engaging and super non-judgemental; if you have an issue or just aren't understanding, he wants to do everything possible to help you succeed and understand. Also super socially conscious.

Dr. Smith has a very clear speaking voice and is also very clear in explaining concepts. He never expects students to understand more than they should, and offers lots of help in class and outside of class in understanding concepts. Very nonjudgmental, and just an all-around great professor!

Dr. Smith teaches Latin in a way that is easy to understand and also re-teaches English grammar at the same time so you understand why the grammar works that way. He is hilarious and I looked forward to class every single day. He wants the best for his students and it shows.

Would absolutely recommend to anyone needing to take a history class. He is an incredible professor and person. You have to actually try in his class to earn a good grade, so if you want to sail through a class this one is not the one to take. If you are looking to get something more out of a class than content he is your guy!

Dr. Smith is incredible. If I could have him as a professor for all of my remaining English classes I would. His lectures are perfect and fun to engage in, and the homework he assigns is always relevant to class material. 10/10 would recommend! Haha.

Dr. Smith is really cool guy. He makes lectures about grammar come to life and makes you want to be better at Latin. He requires weekly chapter summaries and class participation but the work is worth seeing him pick on Dr. Kim or play his flute. Truly a gem.

I had an absolute blast in this class. Prof. Smith is an amazing teacher, and he made learning grammar about 10x more interesting than I thought was possible. He's a good sport about homework and tests, and his lectures are really easy to follow. If I could take him again I absolutely would!

Dr. Smith is the greatest professor any student could have!! He is also very handsome and funny! The class goes by so quickly, you're shocked that 75 minutes has already passed. If you take notes and pay attention, you will do just great! The class is test heavy but if you look over your notes once a day, you will get an A! Great study habits A+

Dr. Smith is an absolutely fantastic teacher. This is one of the most interesting classes I have ever taken, and it's quite easy to understand if you're doing the homework (which isn't graded)! Every day I come to class and leave smiling, he's hilarious and the content is more than exciting enough to keep me engaged throughout the class period!

Dr. Smith is one of the best professors I have ever had. Latin is incredibly hard to learn, but he made lectures so much fun and explained things as many times as it took for us to learn. He made everyone in the class participate every class which sucked if you didn't understand the material, but it really made you learn! Very hard class though!!!!

Hands down the best protessor I have had at ISU. Dr. Smith is highly intelligent, he definitely knows what he's talking about and is confident in his teaching. I genuinely feel like I have grown so much academically and just as an individual from being in his classes. I highly recommend taking a course(s) with Dr. Smith.

His class is made up of 4 exams (including the final) he doesn't post his slides but is really a great lecturer. He respects our time and answers. Loves to joke around and talk with his students.

Seriously my favorite professor. I've taken five of his classes already and will take more. He makes English easy and helped me find my love for linguistics. If you have the chance to take his classes TAKE THEM. they will be hard if you don't go to class, but he is 100% there to help if you need it. Cannot recomend enough.

Dr. Smith is literally amazing and I would def recommend you take a class with him. He is very kind and respects his students. The class itself is very self-explanatory no actual graded homework and your grade is based solely on 4 tests. The content is confusing but going to his office hours is the best thing ever!! very encouraging guy!!

Dr. Smith was great. DO NOT USE YOUR SCREENS. Despise him calling me out on the first day of class for using a screen, he is a GREAT teacher. He really cares and will help you out if you reach out and ask. Do NOT skip class. Overall, loved the class, and teacher. Be prepared to laugh your ass off.

The only grades in this class are four exams, but they are not hard if you prepare. Dr. Smith's lectures are amazing; he is one of the few professors I have met who teaches while treating his students almost like peers. You will learn SO MUCH from this class and will never look at English the same way again. Take it!

Dr. Smith is such a wise person, I learned a lot from his 243 class. I thought it was a fun class, he is a fun professor. Only thing being, there are only 4 exams graded, homework isnt. He does not bump your grade or give extra credit so keep that in mind. Otherwise, he really is very fun and will do group study sessions if asked.

Dr. Smith is incredible, however this course is evaluated by 4 exams and 4 exams only. He offers out of class study sessions in addition to regular office hours. This course requires a large amount of dedicated effort, but there is additional support if you need it. One of my favorite undergraduate courses by FAR.

The material can be difficult at times but he is so hilarious and well spoken I had no trouble paying attention in lectures. He is brilliant in his field. If you take notes, study well, and write detailed answers you will do great. The only grades include 4 exams. He really engages with the class and will often push exams back if asked. Fav prof.

Professor Smith is an engaging lecturer who makes the material enjoyable. While attendance is mandatory and he doesn't allow technology, his clear explanations and willingness to help make the course manageable. unstuck study has been a great study resource alongside the textbook.

Great prof/person, but he is a very tough grader. He is very specific, and there are only 4 tests that make up your whole grade. He does not allow technology so get ready to write a lot of notes. He is super funny and makes class fun, but you HAVE to show up and pay attention or you'll fail. By far one of the hardest classes I've taken in college.
