AVOID this guy. Took him as an online over the summer class. He was anything but helpful. His office hours were just when he was checking his email, he wasn't actually on campus. He doesn't clarify on the assignments and his exams are difficult (you have to use his formulas, but he doesn't give you them before hand) he'll mark off if you don't.
His grading criteria often nickel-and-dime you. He is very clear though and is the only game in town for this class so better bite the bullet.
He is too interested in himself to help you outside of class. When he is in class, he goes over the material way too fast and makes you responsible for before chapter and after chapter quizzes, and homework. These are teeny tiny "nickel and dime" ways to lower your score. There are only two tests,so they count a lot.
AVOID!!!!!!! he will take any kind of points away he can on everything. He is way to interested in his own interests in the class and speeds through material.
This class is challenging and will take a lot of your time! He is very clear and if you want to learn the material take this guy.
Great professor. Knows his stuff, and although has tough tests, they are fair. He curves the grade at the end of the semester. If you try hard you will do well.
Challenging professor who is always willing to help you understand the material. Do not take this class for an easy A, but rather because you want to learn about Physics. Wow... could education actually be about knowledge?
While he was pretty clear while lecturing, he was not as clear on grading. He would take too many points for little, insignificant mistakes relating to how you wrote the problem. His methodology is: take a relatively simple problem and add extra steps to make molasses out of extra virgin olive oil. He also never shows up at his office hours.
Very difficult class. I went in with no previous knowledge in Physics, and if it were not for my boyfriend, I would be failing. He briefly touches concepts, then throws you head first into to most difficult example problem he can think of. I'm not impressed and hope they will offer a different professor for the next section.
Dr. Wade is very passionate about what he teaches and very willing help students in and out of class if they seek it. Methodical and sticks to his syllabus. Lectures are sometimes dry and he is inflexible about grading policy, but overall I enjoyed his classes. Definitely learned a lot about physics.
It isn't that Dr. Wade can't teach Physics, but he spends all of his class time explaining useless derivations instead of working example problems. Then on his tests he expects you to somehow apply all the crazy derivations to actual problems. Instead, he should spend much less time on derivations and instead do actual PHYSICS PROBLEMS in class.
Did hardly any examples in class. Mostly focused on messy and practically incomprehensible derivations. Did not tell you why you missed points on HW and tests, even if you got the answer right. If you show work, and get the right answer you can still get a D, if you do not do it in the exact way he wants you to. Do not take!!1!.
Did not explain grading criteria. Tests were so hard you might as well not even study because it doesn't help. The examples in class are not what is given on the test. Honestly he's kind of rude too. Majority of the class is going to fail the final. I put tons of work into this class with little to show for it.
Tough but fair teacher. Definitely take Dr. Wade if you want to learn physics. Passionate about physics which keeps the class interesting. Tough grader. He expects you to show all of your work.
awful..What examples he does do in class, he stumbles through and ends up confusing you more because he's just quickly making something up and it never ends up working out to be anything helpful.online homework screws you out of partial credit. He lectures like a nervous rookie, hurriedly presenting the material instead of actually teaching it.
Very hard class, coupled with online homework made this a tough class to pass. Wade's a decent teacher, but he chose incredibly simple problems and then the homework would pummel you. He started doing "whiteboard problems" later on in the class and did more examples, which really helped my understanding. Take him if you have the time to study.
I was apprehensive about taking physics with Dr. Wade when I first checked this site...but I am glad I did. One of my favorite professors at UWF. He is tough but you definitely learn. Grading is FAIR; no error is "insignificant." He is extremely nice and willing to help students. Funny too! Don't let bad reviews scare you; he's great. Go to class!!
Exemplary. Always had time for students. Physics is difficult and the Studio (whiteboards) setup is a new concept. I personally didn't prefer the class style, but Dr. Wade's a great professor. Tough on students in the right way, challenging us to apply our physics knowledge and really learn/understand the material. Respects people who work hard!
I took the studio version of UP1. He spent 90% of lecture time on derivations that did not have to know. If you got stuck on a group problem and asked a question he would solve the problem and not explain it or give your group a chance. He is VERY particular about how to answer questions. You have to show your work HIS way, any other way is wrong.
Dr. Wade is a nice guy if you show your interest in the class. I took his class in the SCALE-UP setting and I didn't like it whatsoever. Try to stick to a normal lecture and a separate lab class. Don't take UPI Studio, much harder in my opinion. Focused more on group work, therefore you don't realize your weaknesses as easily.
Makes me hate physics sometimes
Dr. Wade is a great professor in my opinion. I stayed after class almost every day and he never failed to help me. You have to put forth effort. If you want an easy class where you won't learn anything then don't take Wade. If you want to work hard, push yourself, and have a full understanding of all the work you've done then take Dr. Wade.
He is the worst teacher I have had thus far. He will tell you to write brief explanations but hammer your grade for not writing a long response. He is in general rude and self absorbed with questionable grading criteria's. I and 6 others got all questions correct, we are 100% sure but we still got points off the tests. I would suggest to Avoid him.
This guy has ruined my love for physics. Very unhelpful and give so much homework you don't have time for yourself or other classes. His grader is terrible too.
While it is clear Dr Wade is a smart man, he is not a very good teacher. He spends majority of the lecture time going over clicker questions and very little time actually teaching the class. If you want to pass in this class be prepared to teach yourself and not expect much help from him. Also, devote every waking second to Physics.
This is the third class I've taken with Dr. Wade, and I've enjoyed it just as much as the other two courses! He tells us exactly what he expects of us and he is available to help if we have any problems. I enjoyed his Physics I Studio class so much that I find myself missing it! He is a fantastic teacher; he genuinely cares about our success.
This prof spends 90% of the lecture on clicker questions that take 60 seconds to solve. When it comes time for exams, expect questions that take 10+ minutes to solve and are no where near the level of the clicker questions. He also does an extremely poor job at explaining the material. You will absolutely need to teach yourself this subject.
Avoid him at all costs. He means well, but he only teaches to on personality type... and I haven't figured out what that type is yet. He is definitely very smart, but I think he assumes everybody else should be too. I am definitely not, so I need time to answer questions. He does not give much of that. Expect a lot of work.
One of the worst teachers I've ever had.
This class is no joke. Come ready to work very hard. The tests are incredibly hard. Do every bit of homework! Go to Dr. Wade to help you with all your questions! He is very accessible, and has an open door policy. If possible read the first couple of chapters before starting the class. In fact, go see him before you even begin .
Really hard class, the exam is totally different for what we learn, we just learn easy question during class and webassign, but the exam is way hard than that.
I hate giving bad reviews, but with this professor, I have no choice. If you have to take this class and your only choice is Dr. Wade, take it at PSC. Unless you are a Physics Major and you have no choice in the matter, avoid taking it at UWF. Take it elsewhere. It is not worth your time and hard earned money.
My average is over 95 on UP 2 with Dr. Prayaga. I am so confident with my physics, however, for lab, my average is 76 right now. I study for the lab just as hard as actual class. If you have him on physics, change your professor or dropping it off. What a tough grader. If you take his class, be ready to work extremely hard if you wanna pass.
I left a detailed review but it's not here... The poor reviews don't lie. The exams consist of 5 and 10 point multiple choice questions (no partial credit). Test questions come from the text, online and written hw, powerpoints, and workshop worksheets, plus random ?'s from prev. chapters. NO EXAM REVIEW NO IDEA WHAT IS GOING TO BE ON THE EXAM!
Every week you will receive 4-5 homework assignments online + 1 FULLY written turn in one. These R no joke either they could easily take up to 4-8 hours if you R not very good in this subject. They also R due before tests making actual studying difficult. The lecture is just him briefly going over basic clicker Qs and barely explaining any of it.
Dr. Wade has a bad reputation, but he's a good professor. He's always available to answer questions. The exams are difficult, but looking back over them most of the time it was stuff I should have known. By the end of the class looking at test 1 I was amazed I made such silly mistakes. Definitely a TOUGH class, but it is possible to get an A.
Accidentally used definitive language on my first review. This course was extremely difficult. I found the lectures confusing, and when I finally grasped a concept I would realize that Dr. Wade drastically over-complicated it. The content of the lectures, "workshops", and homework did not line up very well at all. $320 textbook for course. Avoid...
Rarely teaches in class. Usually just does example problems. Most of the info you have to teach yourself from the book.
He takes pleasure out of seeing his students fail! He assumes everyone is well versed in physics. Most of the slides are clicker questions. If he took half of those clicker questions out and spent more time explaining material in depth, results would be different. Quizzes on reading material that you dont understand. Gives you false sense of hope
Anyone who says this professor is awesome must not be used to good professors! Physics is definitely hard but this professor does not break down the material. Do not take this class if you have never taken physics before! I made that mistake! The course goes super fast and I found myself drowning.
Doesnt teach at all just goes over material and expects you to understand it
Never failed a class and this is the first class Ive failed. No exam reviews, just recently started listing where he got his exam questions from. If the majority of the class is correct then he assumes everyone knows it. Teaches to a specific student. Ive never had physics until now and now I hate it.
Hes definitely a professor that teaches in a very clear way but, he expects you to understand the book perfectly and spends almost 90% of class time reading off the power point and doing the clicker questions. Then turns you loose for the exams when the material wasnt really covered in depth. Expect to constantly have something due on canvas.
Here is the mindset, You shall all suffer from the pain of physics and he won't make it any easier!!
read the book and work through the examples, it will help with hw. physics, in general is a tough subject, especially for those who have never taken physics before. his test questions are mixed between hw, clicker questions, drawings he did in class, specific examples he showed in class, and he throws some minor curve balls on the test.
There are clicker questions during every class, so if you skip more than once or twice be ready to lose a lot of points. He has a lot of pop quizzes which brought my grade down a ton. You can do well in this class if you put in the effort, I studied for 30-35 hours on every test. If you struggle with math I would recommend going to PSC or NWFSC.
DO NOT Take this class if you have not had partial differential equations. The Schrodinger Equation for the hydrogen atom is no joke.
This guy sucks. He does not teach well and throws tons of homework at you that you do not understand. Avoid at all costs. If you like Physics, do not take him. I hate the subject now. Terrible teacher.
There was an assignment due just about every day that could take anywhere from 15 minutes to 3 hours. The lectures don't really help much but if you miss them, they count a lot towards your grade. He's a nice guy and he knows what he's talking about but he also kinda expects you to know what he's talking about too even if it's new.
I think a lot of people who rate Dr Wade are just those who take physics 1 and dont put effort in. I took Wade for phys 2 and he actually made me excited for physics! This class wont be easy, but you will learn a lot. Go to his office hours if you have questions. Read the textbook and use resources(videos) listed on canvas to study for quizzes.
Ive never seen a professor move through material so fast in my life. Literally the most trial by fire first lecture Ive ever been apart of. Subsequent ones have been identical. Not even 2 weeks in and Ive taken 30pgs of notes, i understand all of the material, yet still feel like Im falling behind. Pretty crazy.
The lectures are very fast paced. He does little explaining of the material, yet spends the majority of the lecture time on interactive clicker questions, which are mostly trick ones. He will go on tangents that irrelevant to the material. When asked questions he, doesn't respond clearly, just talks about excess things that highlight his expertise.
Dr wade was an alright teacher at best. he was pretty chill as a person but as far as lectures go he only mainly covered concepts of physics and not the actual calculation and work to a problem that would be given on something like an exam. Attendance isnt mandatory but basically is since alot is covered in one class you will be behind if you miss
I like the professor but not his class itself because of the awful unfair grading scale. THE QUIZ TAKES UP 50 PERCENT of the overall grade. You can study, learn, do the homework, and everything, but if you make at least one mistake in the quiz. You can kiss your straight A grade goodbye, because that bih finna drop to F.
Physics I is hard, but I know it shouldn't be this hard. He explains none of the math he puts on weekly quizzes worth 50% of our grade, and provides no resources to learn it. It is brutal. I have resorted to teaching myself; lecture is useless. Please take a transient physics course at PSC. I am an A student, and I will likely fail this class.
For physics one everyone complained about how bad it was but if you take more time out of class to learn its not awful. especially after everyone did bad on the third quiz everyone gave up. as a person I really like him, he's hilarious, but I think he has ADHD and gets distracted and struggles breaking down concepts and explaining them sometimes.
Professor Wade is an extremely harsh grader and the things we learn in class most often do not apply to the questions given on quizzes and tests. He uses special cases, and although you should be aware of how to solve the problems he gives, the time limit he provides for the quizzes is simply not enough to think yourself through the questions.
Tbh don't take this class the homework is very hard and you will most likely need chegg to help you understand the concepts and the test are a majority of your grade and is hard to study for the test's since he dosen't provide study guides just says look over your notes in class and HW. Take this class at another college.
I agree with what everyone else has to say about this professor. He is very kind and passionate about the subject, but the quality of his teaching is just not there and I do not feel adequately prepared for physics II. Unfortunately, UWF does not have many other options for physics professors which is the university's fault. Don't buy textbook.
Yes, he was very passionate about physics and I could see that. However, usually being a stellar student, I really struggled in his class, mainly because he never put the topics together in a teachable manner. His quizzes are weighted too heavy and really dropped my grade and everybody else's in the class.
This instructor avoids answering questions. He likes to just talk about himself instead of the material.
~~AVOID if you can No useful lecture, very few examples worked with real numbers. He will spend all your time in class with bogus live MC questions on your laptop, and then not explain or over the answers for half of them. The homework is brutal, it's Pearson online with examples turned off and point deductions for each incorrect attempt.
Calc 2 was easy compared to this, and that's only because of how bad a teacher Wade is. He moves extremely fast and explains concepts as if you already understand the material. He seems like a nice person, but he's terrible at properly conveying concepts and information.
Attendance is determined through answering questions on your laptop during class and it is mandatory. Personally, I'd prefer to study at home and go to class only to take exams. Wade is not a good professor and you'll need to learn most of the material by yourself.
Aaron wade is the worst prof at UWF most of your time in class is wasted on in person trick clicker questions. He will not teach you how to really do the homework and refuses to USE CALCULUS which would make the class easier. This is an algebra based physics with no study materials and 80% of your grade is in quizzes and the final, take PHYS at PSC
Class is seven quizzes, and a final, not easy at all, be prepared to study. Biggest advice I can give is read ahead, and then use his lectures for reinforcement of concepts. Highly recommend going to office hours, if you can, he is very helpful in a space where there are a lot less students. He also provides a lot of good practice problems.
The course material is difficult, you NEED to study for this course. He gives 7 quizzes and a final exam. Each quiz and the final there is an opportunity to earn 8% extra credit. As well as an extra credit bonus assignment so, lots of opportunity to raise your grade. Go to office hours! He is very helpful 1 on 1. Very nice and really cares.
It's not the rigor of this course that is an issue, it's the amount of homework given. In one week you have 52 pages of homework, 2 discussion boards, video homework, and a quiz. In addition to reading the content and the labs, you shouldn't work or take any other classes, you won't have time. The amount of homework didn't prepare me for the exam.
The class material isn't hard, but the class was structured horribly. 12 quizzes, only open on weekends (NOT self-paced, weighs 50% of your grade). Weekly handwritten worksheets with 40 pages on average that are not being quizzed. 4-hour "lecture" videos per week. Could explain more but in short, you'll need to invest 12 hours at least to get a C.
SUCH A TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE OF A CLASS. I HATE THAT I WENT THROUGH IT AND I HAVE TO GO THROUGH IT AGAIN. THIS IMPROVISED PHYSICS 1 CALC BASED CLASS WAS THE WORST CLASS OF MY LIFE. because myself, the class structure and the professor. maybe the department as well but idk. point is: horrible.
Took it online (was his first time teaching it online). Its a hard course, with hard material and can feel like its out of left field on the quizzes sometimes. Take advantage of tutoring and office hours if you are struggling, make friends in the course and study. This isn't a class you can slack in, don't just do the work but engage with it.
This is probably the worst class I've ever taken, and it's coming from a B student up until now. This class was fully online, but showed that it wasn't competently put together. Dr. Wade is a good person, but the class was not well put together and your grade heavily depends on whether or not you can study for 25+ hours a week. Not good.
Genuinely the worst class I've ever taken. While there is some fault that can be attributed to the class being online, it is clear that Dr. Wade did not put enough thought into this course. The videos that replaced our lectures did not match the content of the quizzes. The sheer amount of work assigned was impossible. He is also condescending.
While Physics itself is a challenging course, taking it with wade made it almost impossible. There were no lectures, and the tests made up your entire grade. The class was structured poorly, and the professor was not accessible. Long story short: Run.
I really really had to work to get an A in this class. It was by far the hardest course ive ever taken. Physics is difficult and with no partial credit plus a professor who will not reply to emails, this course is very difficult. To get an A you will have to know the concepts inside and out
Proff is passionate about the field, tried to engage us and is very knowledgeable of the subject, however this course just has SOO much content that it's very hard to actually digest and learn. Idk you have to be very effective and not wrestle with it at all to come out with a decent grade. That may be a board issue of just cramming so much stuff:(
Doesn't actually teach. Paid for lectures and a teacher, got premade videos from other professors instead. He doesn't actually teach in his lectures, he reads off premade slides and doesn't give enough time to even take notes. His homework consists of watching videos of someone else explaining what he should've in class. Waste of money and time
heart sank when i read the other reviews. they were all true. idk how its expected of us to read a chapter and learn physics by ourselves with large amount of questions (punishes you for being wrong) and then apply it in class with no real lecture or practice exams. students have no other classes or responsibilities or hobbies outside of one class
If you're considering this course, know the pace is very fast and to be prepared to do a lot of outside work. I highly recommend that your foundations in trig and Cal are SOLID. If those skills come as second nature, then don't not take the course, he's smart and is a nice guy, BUT if you aren't a natural genius and have a schedule just don't
Go to a state college for this class, I'm an A/B student and I barley passed this class because he explains simple things in a difficult manner and I had to teach myself every topic in order to do the homeworks.
His teaching doesnt help you with any of his quizzes; not even the homework will help you. I would say to read the textbook, but that still doesnt help. I don't know how he expects us to pass his quizzes if he's not gonna teach us whats on it.
This is a lab; why am I having to pull up the textbook to help me? If you need help, dont expect it; hes just going to ask you the question like you should already know it. Takes off points if you don't word it how he likes it.
If you take him next semester and just so happens to be the ONLY professor teaching this course, just take physics at PSC. Like the previous reviews, the quizzes do NOT cover the lectures and homework. Physics is rigorous, but you'll hit a brick wall if you take this professor. Nice and passionate guy, but that doesn't excuse his teaching skills.
terrible, goes on tangents, goes through equations in a very complicated ways, he is so weird
Awful lectures, doesn't care about his students not being able to follow and having trouble with the VERY DIFFICULT topics. Some of us have never dealt with physics in their lives and are struggling a lot. Would be helpful if he actually tried to understand this. Everything about this class was bad.
Literally said “I'm not going to be teaching, you will learn only from the book.” It feels like he overcomplicates his examples so no one understands. He will take 25 minutes to do a problem, using every white board when you only really needed a couple lines of work. The only reason I did well is because I took it in high school.
UWF NEEDS to reevaluate Dr. Wade as the only phys 1 professor. Not exaggerating, taking Dr. Wade is set up to waste your money and have your academic record tainted. He thinks calylinics is helpful, but is the opposite. QUICK! turn your neighbor, have 5 sec to talk about the answer he hardly touched context on. "Do you know" "Nope, not a clue" .
Professor Wade is proud of his association with the Democratic Socialists of America, but clearly takes no pride in his teaching. He does not lecture on the material in a coherent or real way. He talks down pearson but does practically the entire course on there. Tests on material not taught in class or provided in notes. Run, don't walk away.
