This guy is awesome, his class is FUN! It's once a week, really late at night, and really long (7-9:45) so it's a pain in the butt schedule-wise, but it's definitely worth going to. It's fun and you really feel like you're learning something. The work is hard, but worth it. Doesn't feel like a 3 hour class, really fun and interesting class.

I loved this class! he's really funny and keeps you interested. The papers are a bit of a pain, but the tests are easy if you study some and pay attention.

What am amazing professor!!! I just took his course over the summer. Every M-TH for 2 hours a day. I had very low expectations for this class since it was required; however, it turned out to be one of the mose interesting classes I have ever taken. Professor West really does an amazing job making the class fun and the material interesting!

Study for tests and do the papers and you will do fine.

I loved his class. He has a passion for what he does and enjoys teaching music. He also plays an instrument. He keeps class fun and upbeat. His tests are multiple choices with a written portion on pieces of music at the end. He gives you everything you need to know for his tests. No surprises! I would recommend taking his class.

He is an awesome professor! He is very passionate and knows what he is talking about. Quizzes near the end of every class period. Do not waste your money on the book and the kamien website. Everything is on blackboard! so print the slides and take it to class to fill in info. Study slides and the listening parts. You can listen to them on youtube.

Excellent professor. There's nothing like taking another stupid required class and enjoying it. He is interested, engaging, and always has a great sense of humor. Don't get the textbook. Attend class with powerpoints, and rip the music onto your laptop from the CD's they provide in the library ;-) Put in effort, do what he says, and you'll get an A

Totally awesome teacher! He is fun, engaging, and a happy guy. Grading is straight forward. Two major papers that are almost half your grade, but are totally do-able. Make sure you listen to the music for the exams! Just go to class with the power points, follow his directions, and you'll get an A.

Awesome Class! Studying is key, as well as listening to compositions... He gives all of the information needed, just show up for class & pay attention/take notes. Prof. West makes this class way fun, and enjoyable. Not too hard on the eyes either ;-)

He is absolutely the best professor! He's extra funny and very helpful. Go to class, sit in the front row, study the music a bit, and you'll easily get an A. I never got anything lower than a 95 on his exams with a little bit of studying before the exam.

He's a great professor, his lectures are straightforward and interesting. You don't need a text book; and the tests are based on everything he says. Very enjoyable class!!!

Probably my most favorite class ever taken at collin. I'm a musician and i just loved this class, seeing non musician enjoy this class made me happy. He makes the class very easy, just listen to the recordings and you should be fine. There are two papers but he grades them fairly easy, his main concern is format on them. I highly recommend him!

This guy his hilarious. He makes learning about Western Art Music one of the most fascinating things ever. i wish I could have a professor like him for all my classes. The book is not mandatory its just extra help. Everything on his tests come straight from the power points or from what he says. Make sure you study the listening for the tests.

Took this class on-line; very clear on whats due; he is on time with issuing weekly assignments; answers emails within 24 hours; works with you on grading if you did the work and prove it to him; all in all I enjoyed the class and his weekly updates to get to know him better.

He was one of my favorite professors. He's just weird and funny, and he's genuinely enthusiastic about the subject. You'll pass with no problem if you really and truly study. Forget what you hear, because it is definitely not a blow off class, but he makes it interesting. Study and take good notes.

Professor West is AWESOME! If you are deciding between Art app. and Music app. at PRC pick Music! I have taken both and did Not care for the art app. class at all. Prof West is comical and you can see in his lectures how much extra time he puts into his work. Book is very lightly used in fact I'll go as far as to say you can get away w/o 1. 5*****

He builds interest in music background very well. Never worry about getting bored in class. Test are very easy unless you never make an effort to look through at all. He gives Lots of extra credits. No need to use text book which saves you lots of money. Overall have fun and you will learn a lot :D

BEST TEACHER EVER! BEST CLASS I HAVE EVER TAKEN! He teaches you everything. You don't come out knowing just music, but backgrounds of important figures, political history, art history. Not only do you learn, you get a good grade, and he is very entertaining. Amazing perspective on things. I wish he taught every class!

Professor West is a notable instructor at Collin College. Able to engage the material, Professor West's personality makes music appreciation come alive. My only regret is not taking his course over the long semester. Truly a delight and a gem to Collin, I implore you to enjoy him and the class.

Great professor! He is funny (his laugh is awesome) and the class is easy in general just show up to class and listen, power points are on blackboard so its easy to follow along with him and the listening is extremely easy! I wish i could take him again!!

The most amazing teachedr I've ever had!! I never missed a single class. He's very straight forward, if you study and memorize the music you'll def pass the exams. Class is not blow off bc you actually have to study but if you pay attention in class then it's very easy! I'd def recommend him!!

If you have a musical background, super easy course. If not, it may be a little hard, but Aaron's an awesome teacher. He can be kinda...rude on a 1-on-1 basis (like office meetings), but awesome in a classroom setting.

Prof West is a great guy, likes to engage in discussion. The work is not all that easy, in order to do your weekly tests you need to read your textbook. The listening exercises are straight from what you were required to listen to that week. You are required to do a Concert Critique and an Audio Critique (pick your fav song)

This class is so much fun and you learn a lot. He is so funny and you don't need the book just print out the powerpoints for notes because you need them for the tests which are so easy if you pay attention. Come to class though it could be on the tests

Took the online class. Professor West gave clear instructions and the syllabus was easy to follow. I preferred my book to the online one so I could highlight things that might be on the weekly quiz. Prof. West was quick to respond to emails and has a great sense of humor. I loved this class and was actually sad it was over. A+ class and teacher!

Take him! 5 multiple-choice tests with listening, 2 papers, 1 required concert (he gives suggestions). Just practice with the excerpts and pay attention to formatting on the papers and it's a breeze. I had him first thing Monday morning and was laughing every day. Very friendly and knows what being a student is like. I can't recommend him enough!

Not too bad. It's an easy A if you do the work and read assignments. I HATE liberal arts and humanities but this class wasn't as bad as others. You will need to attend a concert of western music so it's not entirely online. Just do the work, write quality material, study a bit and everything will work out.

Very fun class. I had him for both Music Appreciation and American Music. The class got harder towards the end of the second semester (more essay questions on tests and no extra credit), and he IS a stickler for formatting on the papers. BUT, its a fun class still a decently easy A, and he is a VERY engaging and well-spoken professor.

Took him online. He laid everything out very clearly and the class overall seems easy because he's very organized. One discussion post a week, with a quiz and a listening exercise. I spent about 30-45 minutes a week on that class. There is one concert critique and an audio critique which are easy if you follow the prompt.

Mr. West is the BEST teacher you will ever have! He makes class so interesting and fun! I was excited to go to his class every time! Don't get me wrong, you have to WORK HARD for your grade but studying for it is really fun! He gives you EVERYTHING you need to make an A. BTW you don't need to sit in the first row to get an A. Took his online accelerated class. Yes you will have homework (mostly writing), but it's all manageable. I took 17 hours this semester and was fine. First few listening exercises were difficult, then they got easier. Just do your work and you'll most likely get an A. Definitely recommended if you need to get an art credit out of the way.

aaron was great! super chill and laid back in class but serious about the subject. Prof West is good, but this elective is surely a lot harder than I had expected! Especially since I took the express class, there were over a hundred pages to read per week, a lot of discussion posts, tests, quizzes & the listening exercises were horrible because it is so hard to identify the different elements.

Took this class online and if it wasn't for me being lazy I would have an A+ in his class. Great professor and will help you out on almost anything, replies to emails in a timely fashion. Would recommend to anyone looking to get their fine arts credit out of the way.

One of the few teachers at Collin who I feel cared about each one of his students. He was always fun in his lectures. makes every student feel welcomed into his class each day. Papers are always clearly explained, so you have a good shot at making an A as long as you follow his format and instructions! Provides extra credit when needed, but study!

VERY fun professor, cute in a weird way, & super sarcastic. This class was taken for an art credit I needed & I couldn't have found a funner way to do it. He has somewhat challenging tests only because of the listening portions, 25 multiple choice questions & 4 songs he chooses randomly out of your notes. Take good notes & you're set! Easy grader!

Honestly the best professor, he is so down to earth. He was so much fun, i never missed his class let alone skipped it. Only have 5 tests, no quizzes. Dr. West is a great teacher. He makes class fun, lots of laughs. Puts funny puns on the screen. He understands that we're taking this class because it's required and makes it a point that you have to motivate yourself to succeed. Inspirational, and we talk about real life things frequently.I think it's wayworth it to buy the online music "textbook"

He's very passionate about music and will give you little trivial details that just make the course more interesting. His powerpoints are all online, but be aware of things he cuts out during the lecture, you could end up studying a lot more than you actually need to. Also, prepare for the listening portions of the test! They can be difficult.

Aaron is a fantastic professor. I took this class for my art appreciation. His lectures are funny, interesting, and very informative. He is very organized and clear in his grading criteria, he makes you to work for your grade. If you do your part as student, going to class and listening the audios for the test repeatedly you wil get an easy A.

I took this course online. Professor West gives you the outline for the entire semester upfront, and makes it fairly obvious what needs to be done in order to be successful in his class. Weekly quizzes and discussions that require reading the chapters. 1 paper only in the semester. Not difficult at all, but you will have to put in effort for an A.

He said in the very beginning that this would "not be an easy class". He was right, and I appreciated the honesty. If you hate to read and hate to write, then do not take this class (or any other liberal arts class). Overall, I really liked this guy. Just do the work and you'll be fine. I skipped on a few assignments and struggled to hang on.

Was super fast at grading discussions, next morning. We had 9 discussions & 9 quizzes once a week, & then one 1000-1500 word assignment towards the end. The hardest part was the listening questions, be sure to listen to the composers he tells you each week in the modules. Overall, not a hard class. Just try & u will get an A. Take in summer online!

Genuinely one of my favorite professors I've ever had. I took his in person class and it was a lot of fun. He has a great sense of humor and makes learning the material enjoyable. I took him during Wintermester online. Very easy course (quizlet). For wintemester each day a quiz and discussion were due. There was an audio critique (like on a song) as well. Very easy, I ended with a 98 and also gained some interesting knowledge through the readings required to do discussion posts. Take him if you need this credit.

Took online for wintermester. He is very funny and offers unique feedback. Each day was 1 chapter reading, 1 quiz, 1 music sample quiz, and 1 discussion. The workload isn't bad if you manage your time. The chapters are big, but you can pass with an A if you only read the intros to them. Very passionate about music. Highly recommend.

Professor West had fairly easy coursework with not many assignments. Most of the work is textbook reading and quizzes based on the reading.
