Very funny and a strong lecturer. Midterm and final are easy, but get a good TA. My TA graded the papers extrememly hard, expecting us to have a fairly strong background in phil. My test average was high A, paper grades low C.

He kinda reminds my of Adam Corolla. Insightful and entertaining, I enjoyed almost all the lectures. I would have liked the class more if my TA wasn't such a hardass. The papers are definately the hardest part of the class, especially if you get a bad TA.
Definitley an interesting class... he holds the classes attention well.
zimmerman is great. his lectures are clear, he's humorous and keeps the classes attention easily. hes an attractive guy. the paper topics are cool and he gives review sheets for the midterm and final which are very helpful.
He goes off on tangents trying to be funny, but it just made me space out. The review sheets he gives for the tests are very helpful. Papers difficult
He's a really good lecturer, but when you ask questions-he is sometimes very sarcastics towards you.
He's an awesome lecturer, heelarious. some of the readings are dense, just read the handouts and you should be fine.
This was by far my favorite class all year: the discussions were fascinating and entertaining and Professor Zimmerman is hilarious and very effective. I couldn't recommend somebody any more enthusiastically.
BADASS TEACHER! He's funny in lecture and his assignments have purpose. Tests are easy, straight off the study guide.
He makes the class so much fun and entertaining!! I actually WANTED to go to class w/ him! and girls- get ready for a treat, he's super hot!!
this is a great class to take! zimmy teaches this class with great knowledge and wit. he knows how to make it interesting and he's great to look at too! His handouts and study guides are VERY helpful and his midterm and final are EASY! "yay for zim"!

He is very funny and easy on the eyes. :) He also makes the subject matter interesting. The final and midterm are VERY easy if you do the study guide. The papers were hard, depending on the T.A.
Amazing class, lectures were great, he kept the class interesting because he clearly loved the topic. Exams were easy enough, just don't rely entirely on the handouts. The review sheets for the exams are VERY helpful though. and don't try to cheat on the exam by slipping pages into your blue book.
he is a jackass. very funny. very smart. expects you to read, doesnt care if you dont. he likes kant a lot (only bad thing). he is very fair, and the papers and tests are reasonable. get a good TA, rich graziano is excellent. this is an awesome class

The first half of the quarter was really great, when you move on to theoretical ethics things get difficult and VERY BORING. He goes off on wild tangents for most of the lecture he takes about 20 mins to answer your question and doesn't usually answer it directly. get the handouts and skip lecture
Hated this class with a great passion. sometimes the man is entertaining, but then when he recycles old jokes, it get's very annoying. Also, the TA I had for this class was terrible. Ruined my entire experience. John K... Didn't understand a word the man said!!!
Awesome class. Zimmerman jokes around with the students and makes class really intresting. The course itself is really intresting as well. Zimemrman called me "the skeptic," a future crack addict, and a wise ass. Best class I have taken here.
Best professor on campus. Going to lecture was the highlight of my day. Very entertaining and knows his**** about philosophy. Definately get this guy.
The class is easy- I didn't even read the books and I got an A. All you have to do is go to classes & review sessions before tests- he gives a study sheet for the exams and all of the questions from the test are on that sheet. EXTREMELY FUNNY- very comfortable to talk to guy... plus he's pretty cute
very good teacher, very entertaining. tel students know what was going to be on test. the papers are hard and the grading depends on your TA, however. but overall a great professor and an awesome class.
Great teacher, one of the best I've ever had at UCSB. He encourages students to participate in class discussion, as opposed to boring lecture. He honestly cares about the students and encourages student interest in the material. Take his classes if you are ever interested in philosophy.
Honestly, I laughed until it hurt during every lecture, but I only learned about philosophy of mind by reading the book. Lectures were def. fun, but low on content (i.e. critical analysis and original ideas). Not as intellectually stimulating as other upper div. classes I've taken.
So funny! I loved Zimmerman
Zimmerman is great!! I had his honors section and he's really funny..he makes the boring material interesting and debating in class is fun! DON'T GET JOHN THE T.A. HE'S HORRIBLE!! I had him and pretty much that ruined the class for me! Otherwise, Zimmerman = the****!
So hot. Distustingly sarcastic, but I loved it. He makes the most boring class (ethics) really entertaining and its worth going to class just to see who he is going to make look like a dumbass next, hes awesome, sort of looks like jerry seinfeild, but a hoter. Tests are easy because you are given the questions before hand.

Amazing teacher! Makes going to class entertaining and hilarious, especially when he makes fun of people. His Phil 100D class is also entertaining even though the actual subject is horrible!

The best teacher I have ever had. He is so funny and that keeps class so interesting. He wants to help his students and that is a rarity. He is also really cute and that NEVER hurts! Zimmerman Rocks!!!
He made this class a lot of fun. His humor is like Jerry Seinfeld and cracks you up in class. Papers are worth like 70% so do well on those. But you don't have to read because he gives you handouts summarizing the readings, and he gives you a list of questions that will be on the test before! Pretty easy, and highly recommended!
Boy, he is good!
Awesome professor. Some of the topics didn't particularly pike my interest, but Zimmerman made class worth going to. Lectures were entertaining as he is a really witty, sarcastic, funny dude. People say he's like Seinfeld, which is quite true. Grade primarily based off essays, so concentrate on those. Good class.
if he didnt spend so much time being sarcastic and telling 300 kids not to yawn, maybe we would be able to get out of class 20 minutes early....and do something with our lives.
Zimmerman is an incredible teacher, and I was sad after the class ended. He makes going to class fun, and you really don't have to do any of the reading. Tests are easy if you know the questions on his study guide. Honestly, I wish I could take this class again just to have more time around Zimmerman
extremely entertaining AND informative lectures. aside from having to surpress yawns, i really enjoyed the class and i really learned a lot. i also got away with doing almost none of the readings and still got an A. definitely take.
Worked hard and got a C+. Glad I'm not majoring in Philosophy! =D
Awesome teacher who makes lectures fun.
Is there a bad thing you could say about Zimmerman...I mean seriously...he is awesome, except if you yawn in his class. Other than that, he makes lectures worth going to and he gives study guides for the test which as extremely helpful.
this class was aweomse. zimmerman is a great prof, he is so entertaining, i loved going to lectures. tests are easy too cause he gives you the questions before. i definetly reccommend taking this class.
take philosophy 4 with this guy, the material is interesting and he is funny as hell.
entertaining at times, pretty funny, don't yawn in class or he will pick on u, the review sheets for the tests are the EXACT same questions as the test, so if u do them in advance, you will do fine.
He is my man! Love him!
This guy is sheer philosophical awesomeness. He knows his material like nothing else and while he can sometimes get carried away, he'll always explain fully. Try not to be late, or leave ealry, or yawn, he'll tear you a new one, but if you're interested in philosophy this guy is the best. The only complaint is that there is 3 essays.
He is entertaining, funny, great at answering questions, and oh yes, a cutie pie. I really liked going to his lectures but I did not like that he did not write anything on the board and it was very difficult to take notes in his class. But I would surely reccomend this prof. to anyone interested in philosophy.
Do you wanna learn Philosophy from "Jerry Seinfield"? Then this IS the professor for you! Sarcasm gets thick sometimes, but the class was ALWAYS interesting!
Very funny. He finds ways to make things relevant or will say things so outrageous that they stick in your brain. It really helps when you have to memorize things. He has an awesome mind and the lectures are definitely more important that the books. No need to take notes, you'll have no problem remembering what he says.

One of the most helpful professors I have encountered. Great sense of humor to
great class and great professor. very comical. he definitely keeps your attention and helps you remember the arguments. the TA's were very helpful as well. i recommend any class taught by him.
Aaron thinks he knows everything there is to know about philosophy...and he's wrong. He is an easy grader, though, especially if you agree or pretend to agree with his views.
I took this class a couple of years ago and really enjoyed (I'm not a phil major) Zimmerman is really funny and a great guy. He still stops and says hi to me if I see him on campus. Class was kind of easy...I got a B without really doing the readings
He's a funny guy, but SO hard to pay attention during class, lectures not mandatory to pass. MAKE SURE to print out the study guides because they outline EVERYTHING you need to know and keep out the unnecessary. Midterm and final easy if you answer all the questions. Two 5 page essays which aren't bad. Recommended. All pretty interesting anyway :)
Zimmerman Pretty much rocks! Prima facie I was so scared to take this class, but I really enjoyed the class in the end! Lectures were entertaining, I laughed because he gots jokes. Make sure to print out and study the handouts, you don't really need to read the books. get a good t.a. like Chris Tennberg and you're set.
Lectures are great, but readings are not! He explains everything well so comprehension of the material is not hard. i recommend any class taught by him!
Very fun professor. Phil isn't my forte, but he made it fun and at least somewhat interesting.
loved this guy. really into the topic and relates well with students. pretty young and has a sense of humor.. sometimes he thinks he is funnier than he is, but good-hearted. bring up objections to his arguments in class and he'll ask your name... and remember it!
Best. Professor. Ever. He seriously made me look forward to every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The class was sooo interesting, and not only did we learn a lot but we laughed out loud the whole quarter! Professor Z is AMAZING! TAKE HIM!!
Zimmerman held it down. Fun class and good lecturer. Was very clear and interesting. Take it, even if you aren't interested in philosophy. Went a little too slow at the beginning and then too fast at the end, but still really good class. Even if you don't need to go to lectures to get a good grade, i would suggest attending because they are fun.
Very funny. Class is always interesting. Reading isn't entirely necessary. Make sure you know the study sheets. They are word for word on the tests. Essays can be a wake up call. Visit your TA often. It can make or break your grade. Also, outline your essays for the final. Medium length should be a page, long should be 2. He grades on length too.
Awesome professor! the guy is really funny and you want to attend lectures not cause u need to but because hes a stand up comic. The tests and papers are pretty simple and straight foward. He gives you the notes you need for class and jst goes over them during class. My advice is take this class no matter what your major cause its fun.
One of the best professors you can ever have! He was interesting, funny, and made me love philosophy. If you are even marginally interested in taking this course DO IT! Even if you aren't interested and just want units/GE's TAKE IT!
Great, easy course! Two papers worth 60%, midterm 15%, final 25%. Gives you a "study guide" week before midterm and final which ARE THE TESTS. If you are good at filling out the study guide based on the handouts he posts online, you are set! Get a good TA, write a good paper! Fairly easy A- for me! Highly recommend him. Attendance not necessary.
He was a great teacher, very funny lectures. sometimes hard to follow his argument and often shoots down remarks from the crowd in a funny way. class wasn't that hard... worth taking as a freshmen for four units, 1 midterm and he gives u a comprehensive study guide and 2 small papers, and then a final with another goood study guide
professor has a great sense of humor and the study materials he provides are the EXACT questions on the test. look them over, and you'll be fine. the papers are fairly easy, but managed to bring my grade down.
So funny, he kept me entertained all class. His analogies were just ridiculous enough to drive the point home for most philosophical theories. I would highly recommend taking a class with him, any class. He's awesome.
I love this man! The class was super interesting and he is so funny. I was never bored listening to his anecdotes and he kept you involved. Even if you have no initial interest in philosophy, take the class! He is one good looking intellectual!
Great lecturer and professor, approachable outside of class, humorous, and good at breaking down tough philosophical concepts so that most students can access them.
Yes his classes are very interesting but I would not recommend it based on the final. It just made me give up I mean what kind of professor makes you write 10 short responses,4 mid length essays and 2 long essays ...WAY TOO MUCH!
Hilarious professor, keeps you entertained every class. Lost of class interaction, he only lets class progress if people volunteer. Definitely recommended
I loved this class! It wasn't really necessary to go to all the lectures although they were entertaining to sit through. He gives you outlines of basically everything you need to know from the readings so you don't have to do much reading. The only downside was the final which was excessively long
This class was a giant game of "would you rather", that being said, he was interesting and fun.
Razor sharp, witty, humorous, and very interactive. Like magic, tedious and dense information became intelligible with his guidance. Show up to class, show him the respect and attention a professor deserves and you wont regret it. You will find knowledge and entertainment in his classroom.
Awesome professor, very loud and engaging in class. Answers questions while keeping on track. Optional section. Easy to pay attention and interesting material. Final is difficult but fair. Best phil professor at UCSB hands down.
I ended up loving this class. But beware, it is FAR from an easy A. The essays are deceivingly tricky and screw most people over (30% of your grade each). Talk to your TA before you turn it in. Zimmerman was awesome: loud, engaging, funny, and cool. He always got the class to participate and allowed every voice to be heard.
I've had Zimmerman for multiple classes. Best professor I've had at UCSB easily, the 4.2 rating is way too low. He keeps the class interesting and makes it easy to get involved. Finals are long but you get the questions beforehand.
great class! really interesting! NOT super easy though, don't expect to get an A without some work. However he posts handouts that explain the readings in a concise, simple way. I never even opened the textbook and I was fine. the final was hard but he basically gave you the test in the review guide, if you memorize it you are fine
Easily one of the best professors I've had at UCSB. Every lecture was interesting/fun. He has a great sense of humor and incorporates it into the class. The material can be complicated but he is very helpful in office hours. 2 papers and a final. The final is very long, but you do get the questions beforehand.
This guy is great. I wish I had him for Ethics instead of Epistemology. That class is rough no matter how interesting the professor is. Zimmerman made it so much better though! The material is very technical but he made it interesting. It was not an easy class, but he gave us the questions for the final before hand which helped. Great prof!
He's a great guy and teacher. You don't need to do to class since everything is in the handouts online. 2 short essays and final, no midterm. He gives you the questions to the final before and its all pretty straight forward.
The way he lectures is very hard to keep up with. His final is way too long. This class is way too hard for an intro class. I highly regret taking him and I will avoid taking another class with him.
Attended everything, enjoyed the class and prof. Went to another TA's section end of quarter and learned a ton, compared to mine who used felicific calculus to lazily explain everything, thanks for the C.
His lectures are clear and interesting; encourages class participation. His notes are online and summarize the readings quite well. He is quite humorous and makes class enjoyable. He assigns 2 papers and 1 final. The final is quite long, but he gives you the questions beforehand. He is always willing to help, either with essays or concepts.
Aaron Zimmerman was an excellent lecturer. the lectures were probably not super important for the assignments due, but just showing up was beneficial. Not an easy intro class, it actually forces you to use your brain (imagine that), so I wouldn't recommend it for an easy A. If you want to actually learn something, Zimmermans your guy.
Zimmerman was incredibly entertaining and enthusiastic teacher. Although I think ethics is pretty boring, he made jokes and kept everyone super engaged. Would definitely recommend taking a class with him. Maybe its just cause he's funny and obviously really educated but I thought he was superrrr hot, definitely works out too.
I was expecting this to be easy - NOT AT ALL. Lectures were hard to follow, difficult to take notes on. If you're on the fence about philosophy, I would NOT recommend this class whatsoever.
He's very condescending and arrogant. Calls people out in class if they're talking or on their phone. His lectures were pretty much impossible to take notes on. You have to go to class because he'll sometimes give you EC final exam questions. The material actually made you think. The final took the entire three hours.
Never had him before, but he was great. Don't listen to the comments about him calling people disrupting the class. What do you expect? Get off your phone or get out of class. He explains everything well, does go off on tangents, but they are mostly relevant. Readings were short and doable. Literally a week to do one. 2 papers, 1 final. Recommend.
I absolutely loved this Professor. He is kind, funny, smart and presents ideas and theories in a very clear and precise manner. If you are eager to learn he is eager to help. He usually has handouts online which explain everything he goes over in class. His tests are fair and randomly offers extra credit. Would take class again.
Greatest professor I've had so far. The material is a lot to process it when you get it the class is great. 2 essays and a final but he gives you the questions beforehand. It's work but doable. Pay attention in class, try on the papers and it's an easy A.
Definitely the most entertaining professor I have had so far. So funny and knowledgable. The subject is very dry and you need to attend lecture but he makes it worth attending. Go to section and participate because that can help your grade. He makes it easy for you by providing handouts of all the readings. Study guide is way too long. Hard class.
Zimmerman is great! He's genuinely hilarious, I spent most of lecture smiling. if you're interested in philosophy/ethics, the class is a great starting point. That being said, the reading is difficult so you should definitely come to lecture. Lecture is what he bases the final exam on. Also, there's no midterm, its just 2 papers and a HARD final
Funny and knowledgeable guy, but kind of a d0uche. Class was easy to BS. I took 21 units this quarter, this class was perfect for a GE because I probably spent 5 hours in total on it and still passed. Final was easy as hell to study for, I primarily used Quizlet, and anything I couldn't find there I CTRL+F'd his lecture notes.
Although the lectures are not mandatory to pass the class, I found that they were both extremely engaging and helped outline key concepts that you would need to know for the final and both papers. He also likes to make jokes and they're actually pretty funny, extra credit offered and it is extremely easy to work. No busywork
2 papers and 1 final (each 33%). Go to lecture because he gives extra credit assignments when less people show up. Your grade really depends on your TA. The final is cumulative and pretty tough so be prepared! Zimmerman is funny but hard to follow sometimes because he goes off on tangents to explain things. His handouts were life saving.
this class honestly lets you know whether or not you should major in philosophy. for some it's super easy, but for me personally it was so difficult. the readings were so hard to wrap my mind around, and his lectures seemed like he was repeating the same thing over and over again. his study guide really helped me pass the final tho
This class was very easy and also very interesting. Attendance is not mandatory but Zimmerman is hilarious and his lectures are entertaining. The final is really long but as long as you study the review sheets he gives out before the midterm and final it is very easy to get an A. Go to your TA's office hours before turning in each essay too.
Zimmerman was the most confusing professor I've ever had. Irrelevant tangents like no other, speaking at a million words per minute, tripping over himself, not clearly explaining anything, long readings, only seeks his interpretation of the readings, difficult to follow, a humongous bore, and way too ecstatic for his own good.
I wanted to like this guy, but Zimmerman was so hard to follow. The wording on the handouts (while there were not many), were SO overwhelmingly confusing. I am a philosophy minor and I highly recommend taking a different class. Although it may have simply been the content of Epistemology that was hard, he certainly did not make it any easier.
Despite Zimmerman's delicious booty, he is by far one of the most nit-picky, intense, and difficult professors I've ever had. He's incredibly passionate, inspiring, and eclectic. However, if you do not understand the material inside and out, he will RIP you APART. MAKE SURE YOU GO TO HIS office hours to make sure your papers are WHAT HE WANTS.
Lectures are all over the place and not engaging at all. He doesn't make philosophical concepts accessible and this doesn't seem to give a great intro to ethics. He takes questions in lecture but interrupts people a lot. Final exam was brutally long but doable if you work on the study guides (those save lives).
Zimmerman is an intellectual powerhouse who holds his students in high regard, expecting they already have a wide range of philosophical knowledge going into the class. He teaches in stream of consciousness, which means the class flows like a long conversation and he forces students to come up with their OWN answers to tough philosophical questions
Go to lecture! Some of the material is hard to grasp but his lectures are engaging, interesting, and so helpful in passing the class. He's a pretty funny guy and will answer your questions to make sure everyone is understanding what's going on. Having a good TA definitely helped me in the class. One of my favorite classes I've taken so far.
All quarter he was a relatively chill, only 2 papers and he was lenient on grading. Then finals came around and he released the longest study guide I have ever seen. His expectation for the final exam was completely unrealistic even though we had 3 hours for the final. Beware.
don't take this class if you don't like debate style conversations. very heavy readings (very old papers). 2 papers and a writing final that was 4 essays, 800 words each. lectures were all over the place, not much structure. section attendance is mandatory, TAs provide paper outlines. as an ex-stem student, this class was awful. take another class
Prof Zimmerman is an excellent lecturer. Unlike the textbook of this course, he never fails to catch my attention during the lectures. He is also open to all kinds of questions. If you are confused, just ask, and he will thoroughly answer your question.
Only take this class if you're seriously interested in philosophy. The course material was very dense and it was easy to get lost if you weren't paying attention. The handouts helped a lot, but epistemology is a hard topic no matter what. Zimmerman's lectures were fun, but he takes a lot of time to answer questions. 2 papers, and 1 take-home final.
The reading materials were difficult and he sometimes couldn't explain them clearly. Obviously, he was using the previous classes' handouts and didn't prepare well.
I don't think Zimmerman is a bad professor, just not for me. Most of the class is just him talking through the concepts which for me was hard to keep up with. I got a good grade on the papers but basically had to teach myself the material. I'm sure some people loved him but his style was not for me at all.
Prof Zimmerman was so funny and I really enjoyed his lectures. He explained complex ideas in a way I could understand. BUT your TA really matters! Mine sucked and made me even more confused. Grade is based on 2 papers and one, very long, written final. lAttendance is not mandatory but it you won't do well if you don't go to lecture.
best phil prof ive taken at ucsb so far, his moral psych class is very interesting and he is very engaging
Zimmerman's lectures are engaging and he explains complex ideas well. Attendance is recommended, as he gives helpful extra credit assignments. The course load can be challenging, but using study aids like Unstuckstudy alongside the textbook and TA office hours makes it manageable.
This is my second quarter at UCSB and this professor was nothing short of an AMAZING lecturer. I would take another course by him 100%. He is so knowledgable and if you just give him 100% of your attention during lecture you will learn. Good GE course, only graded by 2 papers and 1 final exam. I would definitely recommend this as a GE!
Zimmerman was a great professor, truly cared about the students and was a very engaging lecturer. Great class overall, but be wary of TAs because mine graded super harshly for absolutely no reason. So if you are looking for an easy A be careful as a TA can make a big difference.
It was all good until the final exam. Be prepared to write until your fingers cramp up bc he'll have you write for the entirety of the 3 hours. Gotta say the final exam is a complete 180 from the rest of the course in work load.
Two 5-page papers, a final, reading quizzes, & class participation. Lectures are conversation style & follow useful handouts from Canvas. Zimmy loves the subject & he emphasizes genuinely engaging w/ the material in essays vs. just checking boxes. Final is long & difficult and he is difficult to reach outside class.
Zimmerman was a good professor who cares about what he's teaching. He goes on tangents at times and I found some of the lectures to be dreadfully boring, but he's funny and does his best to make class engaging. TA Jess was AWESOME and wanted us to succeed, so would highly recommend going to office hours for help. The 2 essays/final aren't too hard.
Couple of books to purchase from amazon for lecture. TA (Jess Wood) graded the papers very harshly, lectures were very boring and the professor went on excessive tangents that were not related to the material. Only one exam, final, was easy to study for once given the study guide. Lectures did not really do me any good in learning the material.
