extremely interesting lectures, always on time, overall good teacher

Boring lectures, read the text you'll get a B. Go to class you'll get a B+ to A
Really knows his stuff. Good guy overall.
Very nice man. Difficult to understand. Lectures aren't very coherent or structured. But I've never met anyone with the wealth of knowledge he has. Take his class, it'll be interesting.
VERY Smart guy. Course is interesting, too bad he is boring. Nice guy too. As for help, he is always willing to help out!
Everyone said this course would be easy, and most people got killed on the midterms and essays' I would not recommend taking this course
He's a great prof who knows a lot about history and politics! I strongly recommend to go to lectures and take good notes 'cause he's tests are right from them!
A little soft spoken, he was a perfect professor for a liberal. He knew his stuff, and his lectures were far from boring. Most Liberals you bring a pillow along, his class was actually intreasting. Now if I could kick the one kid beside me out this class.
very nice prof, not a difficult course if you have old exams!
Very informative professor. Full of knowledge. However be prepared to do a lot of work to get a good mark. Be prepare to read a lot. Marks essays pretty hard. Lectures are not well structured.
Very knowlegdeable. Has very informative and interesting lectures. However, they may be confusing at times. You'll enjoy the class, just have to do a fair amount of work to do well.
I love this man!!!! Very kind and friendly, loves to chat with you. Actually teaches you abt the world in every lesson. Get ready to read for the test/exam. Would love to have him again in the future!
I could hardly understand what this guy was talking about when I was in his class. He had a very weird accent which made it harder for me to learn. Also he writes like chicken stratch on the board and his lessons are not very coherant.
Don't take this prof's class if you want to be bored out of your mind. He has a thick accent so it is difficult to understand what he is saying. He doesn't let students go to the washroom when he's in the middle of a lecture and he never smiles.
Awesome prof!! Highly recommended
what an intelligent guy. His classes are so interesting and you come out of class actually feeling like you learned something. He taches at UofT as well. I would highly recommed this class. just study his class notes and do the readings and you will be ok
Very strong accent and small vocabulary... BUT... if you give him a break and listen to what he has to say and read the text you will do great. The class is about common knowledge that we all know anyway... so if you get a bad mark..you are just stupid
Abbas Gnamo was an incredible prof. He was inspiring and had a great deal of wisdom to share. His readings were far from boring and his lectures were unlike any others. If you appreciate "thinking outside the box" - take this class!
His Spoken language is no good. Although his class is a little no fun, he is really teaching somthing. I saw other Pro only waste my time to have fun in class, then kill you in exam but not him. If you can accept his old fashion style, just write all he said, these knowladge can use for life time
Very nice man! Just take notes in class, no need to buy the textbook! He'll help you in anyway that he can, and I highly recommend him
I learned a lot from this guy. Takes his time in teaching students. He's respectful of students. He might have an accent but he doesn't think with an accent.
um hes ok but he thinks his york and uft students are better and that ryerson is easy or that were behind uft or something i dunno..but hes ok?!
Cou day ta,waarald, burucraacee, moodall these were just some of da words dat sounded funny while coming from his unique accent but after a couple of classes,u'll get da hang of it.A very intelligent proff who knows his stuff.takes interest in wat he does. test & exam r wat u learn in class & easy.
I finally can attend his class again. What a nice day.... Well, only thing I can share is "Neve absent." Someone like skipping class or never taking notes, please do not try this course. He uses old fashion teaching style, not creative but 100% reliable. You will have 1000 words to write. worth it.
i believe gnamos to be a brilliant scholar, and avid educator. He does indeed have an accent, but it does not get in the way of his talent. He has a brilliant domain of the english language however, publishes actively, teaches at u oft as well, and his lectures are highly theoretical and insightful.
Very well educated and well experince mad.1 semester is not enough to extract information from the gold mine that is his head. He does have an accent but really trys his hardest to reach all his students. Copy exactly whats off the board then use your text as a "dictionary" and you'll be fine.
Odd african fellow. Seems quite intellegent and experienced. Enjoyed his class quite a lot. Take notes and read the book and you will be fine
He is such a sweet man and very informed on politics. If you talk to Abbas in person, it is well worth your time. Teaches the material reliably. Heavy accent though, takes a while to get adjusted to it.
Very intelligent and interesting person. His accent is heavy, but easy to understand, albeit bad pronounciation (unique<>eunich). Very reasonable test questions, but course outline is confusing and obviously not checked. Also able to handle obnoxious questions from students with grace.
Excellent professor. Go to class, read ahead and stay focused during the classes and you'll do well! My best liberal studies professor since coming to Ryerson an A++ Professor!
He ranks right up there amongst the best professors at Ryerson. A true scholar and an even better human being. His class is an experience of a life time. If you attend lectures and take good notes, he will personally ensure that you pass. Oh yeah, speak up in class! he loves students who do that.
I can honestly say that he's one of the best professors I ever had. It was truly an honour to have attended his lectures, because he's quite brilliant and very fair. U learn a lot from this guy, and not to mention he's very respectful and humble unlike many of the profs at Ryerson who are arrogant.
Great prof, he is very helpfull and teachs well. Only problem is his accent.
Very intelligent, pofessional, humble professor. Knowledgeable in his field and passionate about his work, one of the best prof. I have had at Ryerson, attend classes, talk, read, pay attention write a lot on the exam
He is my best professor ever. As we want to learn, he can bring us to a all-new dimension to look at the world. I saw no one fail in his class, but he marks very fairly. The only issue is a lack of time - he is too busy to stay in campus, because he is actually graduate school teacher in U of T and York U. >> hard work & 100% attendece are must<<
The BEST prof at Ryerson! I want to take more of his classes. Soft-spoken, kind, intelligent man. Speak up in class, and let him know you are interested. Excellent prof!!!
just go to class, and write the notes, amazing guy
hes a really good prof he helps and hes not out to make ur life hell.just go to class and participate aND ON THE ESSAY REFERENCE EVERYTHING b/c he checks
A truly humble, kind, and intelligent professor. Obe of the best professors I've ever had. He is able to make the subject matter simple and understandable.
One of the best profs I've ever seen. Very knowledgeable, respectful. He likes what he does and if he feels you are enjoying and learning he'll appreciate it. If all profs were like him, I would be a life time student. He is not out there to get you, he is there to teach..
"..and it's simply an important one..."Very nice prof, appreciates participation in class. Take notes and the booklet will be useless.. Very inteligent man and knows his stuff well.
I think that this is an intelligent and Helpful professor. I would be more then happy to complete other courses under his teachings. He is truly a teacher, and loves to teach. I am in my last year at ryerson, and have completed a degree via U of T, and from both schools he has been the best prof i have ever had.
great prof, accent is hard to get by, knows his stuff well
Knowledgeable of world affairs and the history related to poverty in developing nations. A life lesson I will never forget. Thank you
Great Professor, a little emotional.... but you cannot ask more.. be sure you have all notes
No Comments
By far the best prof at ryerson. He tries his best to help his students in class time. Note taking is a MUST. The tests are based on the notes, u dont even have to read the book. Overall he did an excellent job of teaching the course and I hope to attend other classes he teaches in the future. Tends to say "Basically" a lot lol.
ONE OF THE GREATEST PROFS AT RYE! Always wears a smile on his face, such a sweet person overall... Very helpful, very knowledgeable, just an amazing prof on the whole... Try to get a class with him, you won't regret it!
One of the best professor at UofT.PERIOD!
Very Very good prof. The best i've ever had at ryerson or any other school. Very passionate and knows SOOO much stuff. Take his class for sure, you will learn, and be treated to an academic dream. Tip: on the essays, use books too, not just web, or journals. He is old school. And you dont have to read, just review your notes.
Amazing man, very passionate about teaching and the subject. Be sure not to miss a single class, and write down every words he writes. He goes out of his way to make sure you have good notes. But DO NOT TALK in class! He hates it, and everybody else hates it, because his lectures r just too darn good to be interrupted by inconsiderate chatters.
One of the best prof. at Ryerson. Listen to him and make good notes and you will be fine in this course.
"Sir did you mark our tests?". "I mark-ed it". Simple and straightorward and doesn't try to topple you over with too much information. If you follow current news and have a little bit of history about conflicts then he's the man to make sure you get an A+. I got A+ not because I was a good student, but because he's a VERY good teacher.
Easy prof..but hard marker for the essays..requires a lot of refrences..but midterm/final are straight from his lectures...no point buying the textbook
The best teacher ever; I am not into social science courses but I had to take his course for my degree. He is amazing and I am glad I took his course. Highly recommend him.
Very good teacher. Very knowledgeable. Kept the topics interesting adn up to date. Flexible and understanding.
This is an easy class and an easy prof. PLEASE DONT BUY THE BOOK FOR THIS CLASS. Its a total waste of money, just take notes in class and study off them. Once again: dont buy the book for this class.
I couldnt understand a word the man said. Which truly is a shame because I really wanted to comprehend the lectures. He is obviously a knowledgable man who knows this area very well. This class was a breeze btw. I read the book (while falling asleep) and killed the easy essay. Final was a cinch. Overall, Id recommend this class.
You can sum up this professor into one word "Awesome". Sometimes it’s hard understanding his accent, however I do recommend him. I got A- in his class, what u have to do is attend the class, take notes, and participate and ask questions. Over all excellent teacher!!!!
The best professor I've ever had in Liberal courses, makes the topic interesting
Great teacher and an even greater person. Thorough and informative, I would strongly recommend taking any courses he teaches. Has a passion for teaching and is a very fair marker as well. Only downfall is that he's too considerate to less informed students who want to share their oh so importand and unique opinions with the entire class.
He knows his material very well. Although he could be hard to understand. Sitting in the front of the class might help.
What can I say about this guy. Listen show up to class, copy down the note, study note you’ll do good on midterm and final. Don’t bother reading the articles. For the essay start on it ASAP, he is an easy marker. I cant not believe how easy it is to get a mark of “B” for wiriting such a bad essay. I recommend him, so TAKE HIM!!!!
amazing professor.. its a bit difficult to grab his accent at first but ull get accustomed to it... no need to buy the textbook, his notes r sufficient!
What a wonderful professor! I have nothing bad to say about him. He's very considerate, helpful, explains from scratch and helps you understand perfectly. A little hard to grasp the accent at first but by the 2nd/3rd class, u'll get used to it. He is aMaZiNg, I DEFINITELY recommend him, very brilliant Professor indeed! :)
Awesome Prof with awesome classes, I've had him three times already and loved him every time... Ive got one liberal left and guess what... IVE GOT HIM AGAIN! I love the pictures he draws, hes not the greatest artist but he tries... some of them are halarious!!! overall amazing prof
Great prof learned alot. If you like to learn take this prof. Tests, Essays, Final all fair and quite easy.
this class is easy BUT it is hard to understand him at first due to his acccent.sitting in front of the class might help.it is VERY important to get good notes from him to prepare for the M/T and final, just study off the notes and you'll be fine.MOST IMPORTANTLY, DO NOT and i mean DO NOT buy the text, ITS USELESS!!NOT WORTH $80 at ALL!!!!
A nice guy and a generous marker.
good prof , made the course very interesting, some ppl say not to buy the text but i disagree, i dont think his notes are good enuf and you need to read the text to do well on the midterm and final since you have to talk a lot about a certain topic, people who did not buy the text still did well though.
I don't mean to be rude, but I really couldn't understand him all semester. It's not his accent, just the way he talks. Very broken, confusing sentences. Impossible to make sense of what he writes on the board, it's all just single words that you have to somehow link together to make a coherent point. Absent-minded, but can be funny sometimes.
Very nice, easy-going prof! Can be a bit difficult to understand him at times, due to his accent but apart from that, he is a fair marker. Tests are relatively manageable and so is essay.
I wanted to drop the class due to his heavy accent - but his sincerity and clarity in teaching detered me from doing that. Delivers content very well - definitely boosted my interested in politics. Amazing person to speak with, and accepts students' suggestions with grace. I'd take more courses from him if my schedule allowed.
Certain topics are interesting but his accent gets in the way. People constantly ask him to repeat himself because of it. DO NOT BUY THE BOOK!!! Got an A without purchasing the book. His lecture notes are your bread and butter tho. If you can make good notes youre set.
Great teacher, but a terrible communicator. He keeps the class interesting with alot of discussion, but his accent makes it hard to understand. He's an easy marker, even if u he's doesn't communicate his expectations for essays clearly. Very Knowledgeable, and I'd recommend him.
Very unclear..not fair too all students. Make sure not to buy book as it is useless.
A tad soft-spoken but certainly makes topics interesting. The text will give context to his lectures but generally not needed--be sure to take notes. Fair marker, and understanding and nice person.
EASY COURSE. DONT BUY TEXTBOOK. JUST STUDY HIS POWERPOINT SLIDES. His essay questions are so general, like you could anwer it without knowing studying the slides. His short questions comes direct from the power point slides.
Take this course! This professor makes classes very interesting. I would recommed buying the book, mid-term is easy, final you need to read the book.
He is an intelligent man and a great professor. He has a somewhat strong accent but you can understand him fine and he speaks the truth!
I hardly understood him in his lectures plus he was such a quiet speaker... Sometimes he would post lectures though. He is an easy marker but classes weren't really interesting.
These ratings are UNBELIEVEABLE! This man can't teach! Very hard marker, hard to understand, and teaches nothing about actual 'technology & globalization'. If class attendance wasn't marked, no one would even bother coming to class. He's really useless. I truly believe that he deserves a 1.5 rating. NOT 4.x. I STRONGLY suggest avoiding him!
This teacher keeps saying "many many" and "huh" repeatedly! He is a HARD marker and doesn't respect students. Completely disrespectful, even on one-on-one talk. I did not enjoy his class at all. We talked about irrelevant topics not linking to tech&globalization at all. Doesn't post all lecture notes. This was not fun. Don't take this class.
This professor is absolutely terrible. I was wrong in believing his HIGH rating here on RateMyProf. He virtually cannot be understood. His method of teaching is VERY dry, and is very unclear. His marking is also very hard. I made a very big mistake in taking one of his classes; I just hope you learn from my experience. DO NOT TAKE!
He is passionate about what he is teaching and unbiased.
I leaned a lot with this professor he is a good marker and knows his stuff
He is a very good teacher and good marker. His midterm is easy. for final his text book is very helpful. overall good experience.
A great teacher, very knowledgable and funny. I have had him twice and enjoyed both classes
Great professor. Let's face it, it takes time to get used to his accent. Sit up front! Very easy marker.
Took a Human Rights and Equity course with him. He is EXTREMELYYY helpful, as long as you show initiative and show up in his lectures. He's very knowledgeable, and knows is stuff very well. If your ever having trouble with any of his courses... TALK to him, hes awesome!!!!!
Absolutely amazing prof (had him for POL540 at Ryerson). He's passionate, knowledgeable and genuinely wants students to learn and do well. Wish I could have taken another course with him during my time at Ryerson! He tells you exactly what to read, his lectures prep you well and he's a fair marker. Attendance is the best guarantee to do well!
Good prof and course. Boring for those with no prior interest. Essay is 40% and if you do well on that ur GOOD! USE BOOKS FOR SOURCES IN THE ESSAY and you will get a bttr mark. midterm was okay but you need to be upto date with ur stuff. Final was same but a tadbit easier but still you write alot. Attend classes for marks and test will be easy.
Very intelligent prof. You learn A LOT in this class, very interesting topics are covered. His testing is fair but isn't easy. you must study, but if you do you will be rewarded
Very smart prof with a lot of experience. So long as you are studious, you will do well
Taken in the summer, I found the lectures to be boring but on the plus side you dont really need the textbook, just focus on the lecture slides and you should do good. Another note, he is a fair marker on essays
Best Professor Ever! took him for 3 courses A's in all! He knows EVERYTHING! No Joke!
Interesting class. Attendance is mandatory. However, I found myself tuned out during lecture. He's really helpful if you come to him for help. Readings are heavily used for midterm/final.
An amazing Prof! Abbas is a very intelligent man and makes learning a lot of fun and has a great sense of humour. Issues in third world politics was by far my favourite class in all of University! If you have the chance take it!
This professor was very unclear, he changed the date of the midterm and no one knew about it. His accent is very thick and reads exactly from the slides.
Misled by good ratings, I didn't know better when I took this course, after taking 2 more upper liberal, I found he is over rated. Lectures not very clear to follow at time, tested on readings not discussed in the class, TA marked essay harshly, way too many questions on the final. Take it only if you are very interested in this subject.
The Professor was very unclear and tough marker. My interest in course waned as classes were attended. He doesn't reply to emails promptly and is very unhelpful with replies. VERY old fashioned. Accused me of things without checking things properly. However, I like the way he says "banana" (Kinda like a minion).
This prof is very knowledgeable and the class is really interesting trust me you will learn a lot about the world we live in. The con is that he's a hard marker
Hard to understand, slides are very hard to understand, hard marker, boring class, useless in terms of communicating with students.
An amazing, personable, and highly intelligent prof. I graduated from Ryerson 6 years ago, and he's the only prof I really remember.
Horrible, just horrible
Terrible class, don't take this class if you want an easy B or higher. Classes are very boring and there is participation marks so you have to go. Some times he doesn't post slides on blackboard. Marks essay hard and tests are probably easy, but hard to study since taking notes are hard in his class (useless slides and hard to understand him).
I enjoyed attending his class. He made the material sound interesting. He's from Africa and has a strong accent, but it's not hard to understand him. He doesn't post lectures slides, so students have to choose between writing them down or paying attention to his lecture. He's a fair marker, but essay and exams are longer than any 300 level course.
Good Prof, but lot of reading and long term paper
Abbas is the best prof I've had at Ryerson. The courses he teaches are quite difficult concepts for some to understand but he clarifies them well. Does't make you do too many readings and is not a hard marker
The Bad: Very boring lectures. Hard to understand his accent. Argumentative (not in a mean way though). Forgets things he may have promised. The Good: Fair marker. Earnestly wants you to do well. The Key: To do well in his classes, do the readings and participate. And in Exam answers and essays, use reading materials - READINGS ARE KEY!
Subject interesting, well delivered. Course completely disorganized, course reader only included 30% of required readings, rest must be found on library website but the course outline doesn't include proper referencing so they are challenging to find, some readings not even available free online, responds to emails only if you badger him.
Abbas had agonizingly long lectures (sometimes going over the 3-hour mark) but he was intriguingly excited about the material he was teaching and made the length worth it in the long run, always provoking interesting discussion. He's big on participation so attendance is pretty much mandatory, as is doing the course readings.
Honesty, I would avoid him! I found the course really interesting but he's hard to understand with his accent.. even after going to almost every class, I miss 60% of what he says to this day. You have to go look for readings on your own as he doesn't post them online & they aren't in the course book. Tests are fair. No slides so take good notes.
encourages discussion
He is a very nice person. Lots of reading. But A is possible.
He seems like a nice professor, but he honestly cannot teach. It's very hard to understand him sometimes, his notes are extremely unorganized, and he even forgets to give us a break when needed because he is soooo busy talking. Youtube is my bff this semester, that's how bad it is.
Awesome prof, enjoyed his class. Focuses on the lecture slides more than the readings. Only down side is the paper, 10+ pages. Other than that, very enjoyable class. His accent is adorable.
Overall Professor Gnamo is a Wonderful Prof. He definitely brings very interesting topics to the class to teach, but make good notes, because they will be covered on the midterm and final. I will have to say, keep up with the readings! His midterm and final are fair and easy if you've done and kept with the readings and lectures.
He teaches wrong history!
Abbas is a good person and knows so much about the topic he teaches, but his lectures are difficult to follow. He does not post the slides so attendance is mandatory and he insists on staying until 9:30pm for each and every one of them. Although I did not go to every class, I was still able to pass but it didn't come easy. You must take good notes!
Abbas is one of the best professors that I've had at Ryerson, he's such a nice guy and his lectures are really interesting. he knows what he's talking about and he's always there to talk to after class if you don't understand something that he talked about, is in the readings, and he will point you in the right direction. 100% would recommend
he's such a cute prof, he's really easy to talk to and he's a really fair marker, this class is easy. i would take his class again with no problem
He was so boringggg. He is a nice person but If I am paying thousands of dollars for education, I need someone who can teach and really engage the students. No matter how hard I tried I just kept falling asleep. He just posts a bunch of longgg articles that you need to read and memorize in order to do good in class.
Very hard to understand his accent. Reads straight from his powerpoints. Many times class discussion gets very long and boring. But is a nice person overall. Barely gives a break during a 3 hour lecture.
He has difficulties to explain his lecture in a better way. Not capable for leacturing. His attitude is racist .
Boring. And if you show up more than 30 mins late he'll tell you to just leave. Expects you to learn more on your own and your ability to do so is what he focuses on for marking primarily
Read the lecture notes, they explain all the readings in a more comprehensible manner. Sit at the front of the class if you have trouble with listening to accents. DO NOT COME LATE he will call you out. 15% attendance grade. VERY FAIR MARKER. Encourages discussion. DONT EXPECT EMAIL REPLIES, VISIT IN PERSON, VERY HELPFUL!
this teacher honestly he is understanding and people who so well are the ones who come to his lectures. He intentionally prioritize those that come to his lectures and he make his test in a way that if you don't come to lectures you won't do well. I did well because i came to his lectures and followed his reviews for test and asked for help.
I did not enjoy his lectures and a lot of the material he uses is out of date. I found his assignment outlines confusing, but he was an easy marker, so most people who showed up did okay.
Attended all his classes, completed everything on time with a pretty decent grade. But when I got my midterm back, he wrote "you did not study" when I actually studied two weeks in advance! I got an okay grade. I thought it was unnecessary, rude and i would not take his classes again
Worst prof ever. he does not know how to respect his students and if you have any issues or emergencies he doesnt care. Do not take his class
Simply Horrible ! Would not recommend, especially for electives. Do not take this prof unless you absolutely have to. It was an interesting course that he made unbearably boring. He was hard to follow as well.
He seemed nice at first, and I gave him the benefit of the doubt. His overall capabilities as a prof. are pathetic. He messed up on multiple times, which if I didn't pay attention I would've been giving the wrong grade. Not marking half my exam, giving me the wrong participation mark of 30% WHEN I CAME TO ALL OF THE CLASSES, he seemed very clueless
This prof is soooo bad at teaching he doesn' speak proper english and its really hard to understand what hes saying but even then the way he teaches is soo confusing sometimes it almost feels like he teaching us what he likes and not whats on the slides, coming to his classes is a waste of time you can teach yourself but he doesn't post the slides.
This professor puts too much information into a class & doesn't explain concepts. He told us after our midterm if did poorly that it was our fault, that it should be the easiest midterm & that "we just didn't work hard enough". He isn't open to any opinions but his own & was rude at times. I dreaded this class & would not recommend it to anyone.
Don't take him for this class, at ALL COSTS. He was rude, and completely clueless to his students. He was unwilling to accommodate an exam conflict "because it was complicated" - It's your job pal, get over it. He also messed up the midterm, and does not care to help anyone. Can barely understand him and blames students for his poor effort to teach
Overall, solid professor and is very caring. If you treat him with respect, he will do the same to you. Be sure to attend all lectures, each one is worth a lot.
This prof is rather hard on marking, he used the words "mark is given for your effort" and gave me a 65 on my essay, which i worked extremely hard on because he was unclear of what he wanted from us. Coming to class is necessary because he takes attendance at the END of class. He cares for students though, just lacks emotion sometimes.
Terrible prof So lazy and dry with his emails and doesnt know what hes saying half the time Hes too old so still be teaching
Has no idea how to run an online course
I had him a while ago. Very tough on plagiarism, even if it was unintentional. Lectures off of his power points and goes off on tangents. Not too exciting, not totally hard but definitely no room for slacking off.
He spent 20 minutes talking about an assignment for a class that wasn't ours. Doesn't respond to e-mails, isn't at all clear with his instructions, has no place teaching in an online environment. Maybe when things go back to in-class learning, he'll get another chance. Right now? Save yourself the money and the anxiety.
He is just so boring, so dry. You can tell he doesn't even like or care for what he teaches. He is a pretty okay guy but not a good professor.
I heard bad things about this prof but his class worked with my schedule. He did not care to make his class remotely interesting, attendance was a waste. His slides are nearly word for word from the book so just read that to pass the course. He is rude and does not even answer questions clearly. Thrilled this class is over.. yikes.
Gnamo seems like a good guy, but he's not a very good teacher. Nearly all of the readings are at least ten years old, and you can tell that his lecture slides haven't been updated in about that long. I'm disappointed by how little I took away from this course, despite its potential for being an interesting course. I won't take his courses again.
I found his lectures to be extremely boring like most students. He assigned groups for a major assignment and even when group members dropped he forced individuals to work independently. Happy this was for the credit and I never have to deal with this professor again.
Prof. Ganmo is one of the best professors I've met. I've taken two of his courses and both were excellent! He is very knowledgeable and respectful. He was totally engaged during lectures and shared very interesting stories. I'm not a Political major, but he made me very interested in the field. I highly recommend his classes, he's just amazing!
He was not a very pleasant guy, and was relatively dismissive during lectures if you had any questions. He marked quite difficult on essays, and required a lot of reading each week. He was definitely knowledgeable on the topic, but his lectures were boring and used old slides which didn't seem up to date.
He was a pretty good prof. I never read the textbook and barely went to the class but I still did pretty good in this course. I did the exams based on the slides he posted and I did well on the exams. The slides were pretty well detailed so I didn't have to read the textbook.
He's a nice guy but his lectures are boring. Had a 10 page essay which he marked quite harshly.
Professor does not understand your concerns or questions. Is adamant on his policies and procedures. Be careful picking his online class because he lacks technology use. Moreover, he doesn't like to reply to emails at all.
he seems nice but he isn't very considerate and doesn't have clear outlines. he doesn't explain anything properly and he will make things like presentations mandatory at the last minute
If you enjoy history this is the class for you. Do not expect any debates or modern politics.
Dr. Gnamo is definitely passionate about the subject and he gets the class to participate in short debates and conversations. Unfortunately, his lectures can be boring but the biggest problem is that he tests on content which isn't in his slides but are in the textbook, so you have to keep up with the readings. The course was more history based.
Nice guy but i barely understand the guy sometimes. Lectures are boring
His lectures were really boring, which made it hard to be motivated to come to class. But the course itself wasn't too bad. I myself wouldn't want to take another course taught by him.
Dr. Gnamo truly cares about the topics he teaches about. He's kind and passionate. Yes he has a thick accent but he's really knowledgeable and goes deep into his subject. I would take his class again. He's also a fair marker and his test are straight forward. The Mc is very textbook reliant
Knowledgeable prof and seems to be passionate about his teachings, but he doesn't really seem to care about students. Wouldn't take again personally.
There may be some confusion with this teacher. Sorry my english will be slightly challenging, I am studying from Europe,International student. This teacher was nice, I could only attend few lectures but he was bit rude. He does not know how speak to students but we will say he smart. If he wasn't such a D head i would take again. Smarten up BasBOY.
Very interesting lectures, if you just attend them (which you will for additional 5%) and take notes, you can easily get 70% on tests. Tho, there is the textbook which is very text heavy, so you might read it for better grade. The prof seems to care, tho I dont understand his grading criteria
worst professor at TMU.
Very unaccommodating, this professor requires attendance for unengaging lectures. The students' contributions were often the most insightful and informative portions of the lecture. Tends to take everything personally and mocks students who leave early. If you have alternatives, consider choosing a different professor.
Overall he is very knowledgeable and passionate and his lectures are pretty engaging (personally). Just beware that he is by far the most difficult grader I've had at TMU. This course also has a pretty heavy 3500 word paper which for some (especially those choosing as an elective) might find heavy. His tests are very textbook reliant so read.
Professor Gnamo is knowledgeable, but can be tough to engage with. Lectures are content-heavy, and he tests on material not covered in class. Attending is a must, and the course skews more historical. unstuck ai was a lifesaver for study prep.
I think he made a creepy passing comment to me but I could not really understand him LOL, I don't think it was because of his accent but because he is incomprehensible. His vibe is weird and he will call u out and get mad at u if u show up to class late. He is not up to date on info and he will prob spread misinformaton about saudi arabia.
Rude to his students and will treat you like you're 14. Marked his own test wrong and when you go to him he will make up bs to justify the wrong mark. Group essay worth 30% and you cant choose your group. If you get stuck with a bad group good luck. Could not understand anything he is saying because of his accent and he doesn't post all the slides.
Upon receiving a grade, I emailed him asking for constructive feedback I went wrong. His reply was very rude and disrespectful as if I was insisting on a higher grade. Yet he wrote back in a degrading manner that he should never use towards students. There were many other problems during this course, so I do not recommend taking him.
Final was very unreasonable and grading is horrendous and hard for no reason. Cut off like 5% if you wouldn't show up and lecture slides were so unorganized on d2l i cant even explain it. Midterm was fine but he threw in a random like quiz in the middle of term? None of us had a clue either. if you wanna take an easy elective, this is NOT THE ONE.
Don't recommend. His teaching style was not compatible with my learning style and it appeared to be the same across my peers. Readings are heavy, grading is tough, classes consist of straight lecturing. This course took my GPA from a 4.2 to a 3.6.
The course itself wasn't difficult, but Abbas specifically as a professor was very much a struggle. He did not have clear grading assessments, contradicting and changing things from the syllabus. During our semester he changed our midterm date one week before it occurred. If you take this course, TAKE ANOTHER PROF NOT THIS ONE.
He is a charming professor who knows and is passionate about his teaching. However, it can get complicated to understand and follow along with his lectures. His grading criteria are also messy, and understanding what is expected is hard. Two online tests, participation and group essays, were challenging, but you can get by with enough effort.
Hard to understand a little, cool guy
His accent makes him incredibly difficult to understand and the whole class was very uncoordinated when it came to returning grades and formulating discussion posts. He also seemed quite lazy and usually gave everyone the same grade for all assignments making me think he didn't really care for his students.
His accent makes him very hard to understand. He takes a long time to give grades back. The class was disorganized and when taking the midterm test half of the content on the test was not covered in class or the textbook readings
very disorganized - changed the date of the midterm a week before the scheduled date. he was also rather disorganized when it came to opening online discussion forums and assignment submission folders.
Incredibly rude. Doesn't answer emails. Implied that my doctors note is fake. Lectures students infront of the whole class about using their phone. Hard to understand but he also can't ever hear anything i'm saying in class. Doesn't respect religious accommodations.
Standard for hiring professors should be higher. At the end of the day he is knowledgeable about geopolitics/politics, but his accent and lack of technological proficiency limits him greatly. When students try to participate in live discussions, he almost always misinterprets what they're saying.
Just flat-out not a good professor. Extremely disorganized, antagonizing to anybody who asks a question (even though he begs people to participate) and he's not clear at all on assignment requirements. Interesting subject matter, but you have to teach it to yourself because he spends half the class time each week complaining about his students.
Confronts late people - makes it so hard to watch. He is SO hard to understand I have had so many professors with the thickest accents but his requires so much focus to actually get. Gross towards female students & made weird comments. Super strange grading and doesn't provide explanation when you ask also NEVER answers emails. Avoid at all costs.
I genuinely do not understand how this "prof" is qualified to teach at any level let alone at university. He can't construct a proper English sentence yet he is marking students work. The research paper assignment clearly stated a 2,500-word limit in the course outline but the guy took our marks off and said we “could have done 3,000–4,000 words.”
Not qualified. Hard to understand. Incorrect information in lecture and slide. Spelling errors in emails and exams. Contradictory when asking about clarification. Yelled at me for using the ASSIGNED TEXTBOOK in class claiming i was doing work for other classes. Group project: class is full of 1st years so they don't really care about big research.
During lectures I would have a hard time understanding what he's saying. Whenever anyone was late he would stop talking about the material and call them out. He does know a lot about what he teaches but he doesn't teach properly and you have to relearn everything by yourself. Overall he wasn't the worst professor, he was just ok.
I personally found him easy to understand & interesting but he's not a professor who cares about you. His lectures are mandatory, but over half of what he says won't be on your exams. Be sure to read & rely on the textbook when you study. He's not good at responding or understanding questions you have, so beware if you have bad group members.
