this guy rambles on about... i duno what.. during lectures. kinda boring, but really easy. past the class with an A.
his lectures are available on beachboard. but in terms of being able to assimilate the class material, he didn't teach it well. about halfway through the semester he switched up the weekly assign. from easy to hard. the tests are based off the lab-assignments. if you want to learn, go elsewhere.
His homework assignments are pretty easy when you work together in class. If not, good luck to you. His test are straight foward if you understand the homework, but never given enough time. You have to write 3-4 programs in a total of 75 mins. Not enough time!
this guy never wrote anything on the board for the first 2 months, used the projector and read off his lecture notes. really boring but reasonable.
Bring your pillow, this man puts insomniacs to sleep. He's slow (in lecture and answering questions), and even admitted that he wasn't very good at what he's doing! Just read the book and try to stay awake during lecture
response to question he does not no answer to : " i dont have time to explain this to you, if its too difficult for you to comprehend.. the answers are in the book so read that first".....lol utterly worthess
teacher is very monotone. The assignments were pretty easy if you understand programming. Students helped each other most of the time. Does not give enough time for tests (4 programs in 90 mins). I got a B in the class. Do all the work an you will pass.
he doesn't know how to teach. he avoids questions by changing topics or just simply saying "read the book" or "go to beachboard and read the notes there." and if u get a low score on the tests, most of the times he will just say "just look at what i marked and wrote on your test." DON'T TAKE HIM
The worst possible teacher there is.....
teaching style sux.
HORRIBLE teacher! Boring, ineffective, inconsistent grader, unsympathetic, and DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO TEACH! Could be best engineer in the world, but can't teach for****!
Horrible teacher, expects you to learn on your own, when I went to office hours, and asked questions, he said check the book. Grading is rediculous. all or nothing, not good.
He doesn't help you at all. Basically you learn more from your peer more than from him. He never answer question. He always ask student to find the answer from the beachboard. He has attitudes as well. I don't understand why LB still using him. Don't take him! If you look at any MAE schedule, his name won't show. It will shows as staff. That's HIM.
I got an A in this class but learned nothing from this teacher. He NEVER helps student. If ask him, he'll ask you to read the beachboard. This guy should've been fired by the department. This type of teacher lower CalState Long Beach Engineering reputation.
I don't know why you guys rate him like that...If you have a brain and use it, you get an easy A in 205 and 305. He'll refer you to beachboard b/c he has all the information on it + example problem's. Just copy + adjust them the exams (all open book)! Can't get any easier! I never studied, but did all the homework and the result is two A's...
The people who said he is a terriable teacher are sort of right. Yea he doesn't really answer your questions and always looks high but, I never had to open my book. If you take the notes in class, which are also up on beach board, and listen you will do OK. intro to C++ helped me and so did using MATLAB help. Also If you copy change your variables.
He sucks. this guy does not know what he is teaching. don't take because he would not answer your question. Does not help you. Very boring. DON'T TAKE I agree please fire this guy
Took this in 05. Got a 100% on the first test, 80% on the second test and 85% on the final yet somehow I ended up with a C in the class from him constantly giving me poor grades on my homework. Make sure your homework is perfect, its worth a good 40% of your grade. A worthless teacher that could put a hyperactive 9 year-old with A.D.D. to sleep.
if you are looking for help after class one on one he claims that you are asking him to do your homework. i learned more from students attending the same class by another teacher.
Do not take this teacher. He won't help you, he doesn't care about the student and even worse is his attitude. Most teachers will try to help you, that's their job but Khattab won't.
I can say with certainty that he is the worst teacher I've ever had. Grading is ridiculus and terribly inconsistant. His knowledge of the subject is very poor ON HIS OWN ADMITION! He will not listen to anything you say it's his way or the highway, only he dosen't even say how he wants things done so good luck guessing. DONT TAKE HIM!
Do not take him. he is horrible. The department head should fire him. Matlab isnt that hard, but he makes it impossible to learn.
Great teacher; Learned a lot, but without being pressured to learn. Made AutoCad fun and easy to understand. Great professor, highly recommended.
IT IS an EASY A with this guy, if, you are willing to put a little work to make those lil' MATLAB functions work out just how he wants you to (ask classmates who 'get' the program). Beachboard examples helped greatly and pay attention when and if he does do a demo. The previous comments are pretty accurate, but trust me, do all the work = A =D
Never used the book, all the notes and examples you need are on Beachboard and are very straightforward. All exams are open book/note. Homework really wasn't hard, just follow his examples and put in some effort. Exams were identical to homework. It's boring material with a boring teacher, but just pay attention, do the work, and you'll be fine.
If you have trouble sleeping at night, go to his lecture and you'll easily take a nap. Everyone just helped each other during the lab because he's not that helpful. Material isn't TOO difficult. Just study all the programs. Grading is also very inconsistent
I cannot believe that people give this guy a good rating. He is worthless. He is an incapable teacher. His job is to relate information which he is horrible at doing. Esfandari is hard but at least you learn something, take him. I would rather shoot myself in the leg than take Khattab again.
He's horrible on grading the project and test. Not not fair and clear at all, rude, explain very roughly and. My friend and I study very hard but result a low score in the test. My score is a little bit lower than my friend's.He just slightly passed it and I dropped it.Worst instructor I have ever seen before. The best MAE205 is Marayang,A is not hard
This class is on AutoCad. Khattab doesn't know how to use AutoCad. He claims the book is wrong and often makes mistakes during his lectures and doesn't know how to correct them. Take this class with someone else.
Man.... I had to take redbull in order to stay awake in his class. Hw is easy . But he doesn't give Enough time for the tests . Ull need to work with others in the class to get the work . He is too old school . He should retire
He Really doesn't help you; if you ask him for help he gets frustrated, saying he can't do your work. If you do assignments well but poor on tests he says you've been cheating although he doesn't give you enough time to do the exams at all...Even his lecture notes he makes have inconsistencies, and make bad programs.
worst teacher ever. i don't ever rate professors but i felt obliged to tell people how bad he is.. Can't even understand him.
useless instructor. he is inconsistent, you got to learn on your own. take someone else if you have option. got a C in the class.
If you have never contemplated committing suicide and want to, take this class. I am not a violent person, and all I wanted to do was punch this stupid teacher in the breadbasket. He is absolutely worthless, his homework and test grading is impossibe and he yells at you if he asks for help . Please take my advice and never take this teacher.
Prof. Khattab should be helpful to students but most of the times he's not. Personally for me lectures were boring. The only way I got through this class was self taught and I got help from classmates. Assignments are easy, the tests are fair...It would've been great if he gave atleast 15 minutes more to complete the problems. I got a B. He's ok.
Avoid this professor. He's worthless as an instructor and his grading is arbitrary. He just creates an atmosphere of apathy and quiet contempt. He has a forgiving curve, but it's just not worth wasting your time for. Instead, choose a professor who you will learn from.
going to this lecture was a waste of my time, it just put me to sleep. he doesnt help students at all and is unfriendly. he is hard to understand and is very arrogant. avoid him if you can
Basically echoing what everyone else said, this teacher needs to retire or be fired. He has arbitrary grading standards; I made a mistake and got 20 points marked off while my friend made the same mistake and only got 3 points off. When you ask him to explain why you got something wrong, he gets mad and threatens to take even more points off
This professor is so damn boring i want to fall asleep everyday in class. He is fair with grading at first, but later on he becomes completely unfair with grading assignments. Tests aren't too bad, but he is not a good professor. DO NOT TAKE HIM!!! TAKE ROBERT GREENE!! I met him and he helped me with my assignments and he is super nice and easy!
He is so boring. I want to fall asleep every class. His lectures are pointless.
Worst professor I have ever had. He leaves during the middle of labs for 1.5 hours, if you ask questions he gets mad at you, and he grading is random.
He is hard to understand and his powerpoints don't make much sense. Although his test are open note, the notes he gives you dont always explain everything. Also, he gives you programs to use for the homework that don't even work. Worst teacher I have ever had!
RUN!!!!Worst engineering professor ever. I got a B in the class but this guy is so bad I had to teach myself matlab. He has a very thick accent, and an even worse attitude. Avoid if possible.
If you have some prior programming experience this professor will be easy. He will not give you the tips and tricks to the things right. He thinks that you should be able to do it yourself. If you are green, you'll have a hard time.
He is useless. I aced the midterm and am currently enrolled in his class at the moment. He took off three points for forgetting to staple my paper and took two more off for no reason make sure your hw is perfect and hand written. His standards are ridiculous and he wouldn't even pass his own class.
Terrible professor. However, tests are almost directly from homework. He's pretty strict about legible and cohesive homework, he'll take off points for sloppiness. Reads off powerpoints, doesn't really teach much.
Unless you have prior programming experience you will most likely not pass this class. He does not help much and referring to the book does absolutely nothing. He teaches the class with his own style
has own notes with examples, but posts them just before class so you can't really look at them ahead of time. projects require thinking but are very doable. i normally finished an 60-90 min early. can ask for help, but instead of telling you exactly what to do he gives you a step in the right direction and you have to figure it out. speaks quietly.
Do the homework exactly like his notes. Forget compressing your work into 1 page. Take as many pages as you can. This tests are like his homework so review them so you can do them by hand. Open notes tests. Easy A as long you keep this in mind. Has interesting stories.
Good teacher. Helpful, eager for students to do well and learn.
Avoid if possible. He is bad at teaching. He has an attitude and a very thick accent. People were scared to even ask him questions. He is a strict grader and even if you do all the work in class the tests are what matter.
OMG AVOID AVOID AVOID!!!! if you wanna hate your major and give up on everything, take him!!! he is angry all the time , if you ask him questions he will give you a bad attitude and blames you for not understanding even if you worked hard. hates his students and doesnt care about his class. you have learn everything by yourself. NOT RECOMMENDED
HORRIBLE!! AVOID AVOID AVOID. He has got to be one of the most inconsistent graders I have ever had. My buddy and I would do the same exact homework and tests yet we always got different scores. Bad teacher. He doesn't help at all (He thinks you have all been gifted by the programming gods) , class is not fun with him. HEAD MY WARNING
he thinks everyone's cheating because they use the solution manual. THING IS YOU CANT GET 8or9or1010 unless you use the solution manual bc he's a tough grader. do hw to prepare for testsquizzes, read all examples in book. tests aren't hard, but if it's not done his way, you're wrong. simple things like ag or a9.81ms^2 will mark you off 10pts
His tests are extremely easy, but very tough on grading, and will not regrade if you think its unfair. Expect 10 points off tests for a simple addition error. Lectures were thorough, except he teaches step by step from sample problems from the book.
This class isnt that hard. The tests are open notes. And they're very similar to the homeworks. Just understand the homework and you'll do fine in the class. Pay attention to his lectures though because he helps you with the homework like at the end.
Some of the easiest midterms I've ever taken. 2 Midterms and a final, all are open bookopen note. You can even go online if you really wanted to. However, make sure you know what you're doing, because he will pick it apart and take away a lot of credit if you aren't perfect. Study, and take it seriously. If you do that, it's very easy.
He is the WORST professor I have ever had. He is not clear with grading, homework, tests, or lectures. He refuses to offer help, leaving you with no choice but to teach yourself the material. He made learning AutoCAD an absolute nightmare and i highly recommend that if you have the choice to choose someone else, DO IT!
AK Kattab is pretty good professor, he made fluids so easy, if you study for a little bit, and do the HW, then it is an easy "A".
He is an extremely tough grader. If you're not willing to put in the effort and be perfect, then you will be marked off major points on the exam, hw, quizes, etc. He is hard to understand at times, and his lectures and power points are not clear. His tests are pretty easy, you just have to be perfect. In my opinion. AVOID AVOID. AVOID.
Just no. IF you have any other option, go with that. Worst experience I've had as a student.
Very unclear on the grading criteria. Tests are usually similar to what is done in the assignments so if you understand the assignments, you'll do well on the test. Other than that, this professor is at best, mediocre.
I took him for 334, and had a great time. He is one of the best professors in CSULB. I recommend taking him
Not sure how he is for other classes but for Fluids he's alright. Lectures can be dull and hard to follow, but the exams are pretty straight forward (HW and example problems are key), the project was actually pretty fun, and definitely useful. The way he grades exams though, is a head scratcher. Id give him a C if grading professors was possible
If you want to lose your hope in cheE, then take this crazy professor. Very extremely bad
This guy refused to really help the class. He took examples from the book, and KIND OF explained how to use it for the homework and tests. I would say the concepts are easier understood if you read on your own. He also requires you to use the pink calculators. I guess the good/bad thing is you get to use the book on the test. Don't rely on it, tho
Just exhausting. I've taken him before and his classes are just exhausting. The hw is pretty heavy and the tests are too. Grades quite hard. Midterm averages were below F every time pretty much. The tests are conceptual though, if you can prove that you know what you are doing you'll pass.
Gives homework, pop quizzes, and exams (2 midterms and a final). On his exams, a simple miscalculation can take away a lot of points. 20+ mins into a problem, he realized he made a mistake so a lot of the steps/numbers were wrong. He even sometimes doesn't fully go over problems & expects you to solve them at home by yourself. A lot was self-study.
He has very strict rules and I respect that. But I wish he was as efficient with teaching as he was efficient with grading our exams! just saying!
Two midterms, 1 final, 5 homework assignments, and random quizzes. This class is really not that hard. Just go over examples and homework. The ONLY bad thing about this class/prof is his grading. He will give you -15 points for a wrong minus sign, -30 for wrong variable. Makes it impossible to get and A kn exams unless your answer is perfect.
He's honestly not that bad if you're wiling to teach yourself. His explanations are not easy to follow but his grading is not bad. I never went to class and missed two pop quizzes and still got a B in the class.
You're gunna have to teach yourself. He mumbles to the wall, gets angry when you ask questions, and only follows the book. Do not bother to go to class to learn only for the pop quizzes. Never takes the averages on tests and I had a 53% in the class and got a B. Only worth it for the curve but not to learn.
This dude sounds like one of those engineering tutorial videos on YouTube. The only difference is you can't speed it up and you can't skip the boring parts.
You will start hating your major after taking his Class. That guy didn't make any sense at all. Avoid him!!!!
Never again! Dr. Khattab's lectures are unclear, boring, and all over the place! Stares at the ground and not the students. His exams and quizzes are somewhat similar to examples, but his grading is so unfair! No feedback on what went wrong. He blames students for not studying hard enough and said that grading exams are a waste of his time! AVOID!!
Genuinely the worst professor I've ever had. Gives unorganized lecs & disrespects students w/ questions. He'd rather tell you that you didn't study enough than explain any quiz/exam problem. Syllabus says any assignment problem receives 60% for an honest attempt, and 40% for correctness, but gives 0s on quiz/exam problems often & w/o explanation.
Please do not take his class. pains me to say but he will make you hate your major and frankly the entire department. Complete disregard for students questions and concerns. If you hate teaching why do you pain us with doing it. grading is an absolute joke, its his way or the highway.
This professor caused me make this account just to warn other students, he is one of the worst teachers ive ever had. Avoid his classes at all cost, even "easier" courses. His grading criteria is so vague and you wont know your actual grade during the entire course. The wind tunnel project was near impossible and you get no feedback. Learned nothin
It's almost unbelievable he teaches here still. Not very helpful, no partial credit, and has told us to google things he doesn't have the answers to.
He is horrible Professor. Honestly Professor i believed that you work damn hard in your life. Now its time to think about your retirement plan. To be honest Cal State lb need better Professors.
Took online during the pandemic. He's a nice guy, but his lectures can make you fall asleep, he's got one of those gentle, slow voices. I heavily relied on the book (needed for HW, appendices for problems, and notes), because I didn't really pay attention much. Light amount of homework, quizzes are easyish, I just never knew when they would happen.
A nice professor, but isnt the best. His lectures are boring so it was hard to pay attention the whole time. He assigns us homework that are problems from the book. We have pop quizzes that are pretty easy, and the tests arent too hard either. Assignments 10%, Quizzes 15%, Tests 50%, and Final 25%.
Claims he will give partial credit based on correctness/process used, but when it comes to grading he will mark entire problems wrong. Was extremely disrespectful to students and cuts them off saying to email him before they finish asking questions. If you are planning to take his class, my advice is don't.
Very boring voice. Not tech savvy. It helps to read over the examples he goes over, and textbook. Beware pop quizzes. For exams, he doesn't tell you what you did wrong or any solutions to the exams. He just shows how many points he takes away. Big curve in the end is how I passed.
He doesn't like when students ask questions during class. He interrupts students before they can finish asking a question. He will tell you to write down an equation for a quiz problem but not to solve it, then he will dock you points for not solving it.
Doesnt believe in office hours. Will not grade hw ever. Teaches math from a word doc. Horrible lectures. Inconsistent grading. If u dont do the test exactly like he wants it u lose 50% credit. Doesnt understand how to use beachboard. Will never post solutions of anything even tho he grades horribly. Honestly just dont do this to yourself.
This guy absolutely sucks. I don't know if this was the case because of COVID and online classes, but he basically just put the textbook up on the board and read it aloud. Has not done a single example by hand, he just shows us what the book did, and then it somehow has mistakes in it. Will never answer a question or even allow someone to ask one.
Does not use the textbook, lectures using word doc. Never wrote anything in class. Goes off on tangents that make no sense. Never grades hw, then gets the same questions on the test and docks points because you didnt solve it like the hw. Doesnt believe in office hrs? Im sure youve been warned about him, just dont take him. Dont.
Never grades hwk. Tests are directly from hwk so learn how to do those and you should do well. There is a project at the end of the semester. Doesnt give partial credit on test problems even tho he claims he does. Will cause you more stress than is worth, dont take him. Lectures are from a word doc? for a math class?
Very little feedback. You wont know what you need to fix on the homeworks so wont be prepared for the unannounced quizes. He doesn't go over the tests either so again you wont know what you need need to work on. He will give you a number of points but you wont know why or how he graded. Goes over Textbook examples instead of concepts. POOR.
Worst professor ever, trust me his reputation is too nice on him. Doesnt believe in office hrs? seriously? during online school? says hes online 30 mins before class, never is. Doesnt give a crap about his students. Everytime he is asked a question he gets VERY defensive and starts attacking the student. will stress u out and ruin ur gpa
Doesnt know how to lecture. Attacks students in class. Will remove points for you if he didnt like how u solved a problem. Removes 15pts on test problems like its nothing. Procrastinated grading eerything, currently a week before finals with 2 hwks graded only. DONT TAKE HIM. Im surprised he still has a job
Worst MAE professor ever to exist. Check out his salary on transparent California salary and let me know if 140k is earned for the crap students are put through in his class.
I've never seen a professor that is more uninterested in his job. He even admits in a meeting that he doesn't like teaching. Lectures are basically slides badly put into a word document. Is somewhat uncaring and disrespectful when students ask questions. Tests give next to no feedback on where to improve or what you got wrong. Avoid please.
Everything that is said is true barely grades homeworks and gets mad at you for asking questions. He very defensive and rude when you try to talk to him. Test are like the hw but alot of times he wont grade anything. Please avoid ends lecture after 20 mins
I'm sure he is a good man, but when it comes to be a professor, he is the worst I've had. His lectures consist of screenshots posted on a Word Doc with him reading, verbatim, what is on there. The 'examples' he solves in class are pretty much useless. Ask him for help and he'll get defensive; wont help you. Exams are short but his grading : wack
This professor is not good. He forgot to post homework for 4/8 assignments. In one case, he gave 3 assignments in a week and then gave us the test the next class. No one did well. Grading Criteria very unclear, took off up to 20% of the test grades for minute errors or even if an answer was "vague" or "written poorly". Overall do not take.
The worst lecturer. Uses Microsoft Word Docs with screenshots to teach. Wont teach anything himself or do example problems (if you ask he'll tell you its not possible). Grading criteria is vague; he takes off lots of points on exams with no explanation. HW is never assigned on time. Pop quizzes (some easy, some hard). Grades were posted late too.
Doesnt use textbook & teaches with his own confusing notes. Teaches with word doc. Doesnt have Matlab on his computer so he wont show any coding/examples. Assigns hw late & randomly. Never grades on time and posted final grades late. His beachboard is disorganized. Lectures are tedious & end abruptly. Takes off points on exams with no explanation.
God awful teacher, he is way too old and computer un-savvy to be teaching an online class. His lectures are just him reading off Word docs. He doesn't solve any problems in class, he shows pictures of examples from the book. He can be an unfair grader for quizzes and tests, doesn't take feedback well, and doesn't change much upon request. Terrible
Took his MAE 371 class. He is just as bad a professor in MAE 330. Same old monotone lecture, random pop quizzes, and rude attitude towards his students who are trying to learn. I guess the moral of the story is that he can "teach" anything. Bad news for us aspiring engineers though.
This is the worst professor you will ever take. This guy does not care about your learning experience he is only there to get a paycheck. He does not know how to use beachboard and you will have a hard time learning from the notes. If you get this guy drop his class immediately unless you don't care about learning the material and want an easy A.
Not sure why so many people hate on this guy. Took him for 305 and would tell us to redo the examples we went over in class. If you actually redid the examples, the exams were easy. He grades tough but there's no surprises on the exam. He is beyond boring and you will probably fall asleep but just save the files he covers and study it for easy A.
This professor is the absolute worst. If you have the opportunity, crash another course or take another professor. He never programs in a programming class. After a couple weeks most people ditch since its so depressing in there. If you have no other option just make sure you don't fall behind your classmates and you'll pass with the final curve.
He is not the best Professor, but he is a good Professor to take dynamic. His lecture is clear and will be on the exam. You need to redo the sample to get the highest score on the test. He willing to help his student out for homework or whatever you want to know. He gives us real applications for the future job.
While not the worst professor you will take, he is definitely the most boring. I walked out of his lectures feeling 20 years older as they consist of nothing but random slides. On top of this, you have to turn in your code by printing it on a piece of paper as he claims he does not know how to open a dropbox on canvas.
The class was easy, he provided pretty nice canvas notes so you don't have to pay attention to lectures, if you want to be bored out of your mind you could (his lectures are horrible!) Homeworks do a great job of preparing you for exams (old versions can be found on CH, he doesn't change them much)He doesn't post grades on Canvas so keep your work
Prof Khattab gets a has a bad rep but honestly don't see what the problem is. In MAE 305 he goes through lectures which are yes boring and dry but if everyone just pays attention and listens there wouldn't be a problems. He's just a very straightforward old fashioned prof. so maybe thats what ppl dont like? Just follow his rules and study! Youtube!
I wanna start by saying he is arguably the worst professor in the MAE department. His lectures are based on screenshots of the textbook that he probably took 10 years ago. On top of that, he gets somewhat lazy with his lectures and blames the students for doing bad on exams. AVOID HIM AT ALL COST.
There isn't enough bad things to say about this professor. He is an incredibly picky grader, marking off 20 out of 25 points per exam question even if you have a page of work, but also doesn't give feedback. Lectures are on a google doc and he doesn't explain well. Hardly a curve even though he grades so harshly. DO NOT TAKE HIM.
AVOID HIM AT ALL COST!!! I lost points on exams despite using the same approach as classmates who got more credit. He refuses to answer questions or explain mistakes, making it impossible to learn. His grading feels arbitrary and unhelpful.
just dont, save urself trust
The lectures can be dry, but following along and reviewing the notes helps. The exams are tough, but using Unstuck ai and previous homework solutions makes it doable. Overall, just stay engaged and you'll be fine.
this professor is the epitome of a tenured professor who doesnt give a flying care about you or his teaching. lectures were very very very very and i mean very boring. pop quizzes here and there but they are open book and internet. midterms were a bit hard, final was terribly hard. i would avoid at all costs.
Khattab is not the worst professor. To make it simple: Yes, grading is tough - but, he CLEARLY defines how he wants answers written in the syllabus (he gives good partial credit if you're organized). If nothing else, the class is consistent. Expect quizzes frequently. He is surprisingly talented at lecturing, definitely not the worst I've had.
Probably the worst professor I've had. His lectures are boring with his monotone voice. His teaching is writing equaitons and doing example problems. He expects you to read the textbook on what he doesn't cover in class, which is almost everything since he doesn't explain concepts. Generous curve at the end.
