Such a boss! Love how he repeats the end of every sentence at least once! But he is very clear and concise and I really benefitted from this class. TAKE IT!!
Gives definitions, but no more than that. Examples are short and vague and have nothing to do with the test questions.
Extremely boring class. Everyone's literally staring at the clock the entire period waiting for it to be over with. He's straight-forward and concise but repeats his words frequently and is very monotone. Only plus is that all exams are open notebook! Don't miss - we cover a lot in one class
so hard to understand, lecture is essential point less, test are open book, yet not the easy as you would think
not the worst yet not the best, hard to understand, tests are open book
great professor. SO helpful and always willing to help students out. Really wants his students to do well and will meet whenever. Very good at explaining concepts, attend class because it is helpful.
Professor is very helpful. Looks out for the students. The exams are fair and are open book. Attendance is not mandatory but attending class will definitely help you out.
This is the easiest class ever. Test are 3 step exercises! Take this class
Hard to understand in beginning but you will get used to it. Makes things very rudimentary therefore making complex things easy to comprehend very funny at times.
He's very awesome. I love this guy. He literally wants everyone to get A as long as they attend the class! Very helpful.
He is a great professor. Take a math course with him and you will learn.
Great professor Math becomes easy with him.
Lecture notes are on Powerpoints and are posted online. He goes through many examples in class, and the problems on the tests are practically the questions on the review sheet, with different numbers. Tests are open notes, open book. If you go to lecture and take notes, and use those notes on the tests, you will do well.
EXCELLENT PROFESSOR. He is the best math professor anyone can ask for. Yes, he has an accent, but you can understand everything he says. He explains perfectly, and is available to help you. Homework (almost every week) really helps you for the tests. If he sees interest in improvement, he will help you out. Go to class, it makes the difference.
One thing I really liked about his lectures is that he gives you a lot of examples which help a lot - even to someone who completely sucks at math. His tests are open book so if you put a tiny bit of effort in (or none if you're a math genius), you'll most likely get an A.
Listen, the tests are open book, and the material is already pretty easy as it is. Latif is clearly a nice guy and he teaches the material very directly, but ultimately I just feel sad that he is wasting a clearly intelligent mind teaching this course. Also, try to get Pants for your TA.
Easiest course I've ever taken. You dont have to be good at math to get an A, all the tests are open book, including the final. Recitation consists of easy minitab assignments, so go to them. If you go to class, its a little boring, but he goes over so many examples and will explain everything in extreme detail if you need. Overall great guy.
Good professor, super nice, very clear.
What A Guy! What A Guy
The lectures are straightforward and know what to expect for the test based on the lectures. Also, if you dont understand a concept, he usually does more than one problems. I have never understand math, but this class made it easier.
He is tough to understand in the beginning of the semester because he has a heavy accent, but you start to get used to it. He explains the material well but if you have a question he makes you feel a little dumb. There was no work due besides three tests and a final. He posts his power points to Blackboard prior to class.
Even though attendance isn't mandatory I would defiantly recommend going to class. He goes over examples in class, but doesn't post them on Blackboard. Office hours are extremely helpful, and he's a cool dude. Would DEFIANTLY recommend taking his class for Business Calc.
Dr. Bourhim is a really intelligent and caring professor. He wants to make sure that his students succeed, as long as they are willing to show up to class and put in the effort. He is extremely passionate about teaching. It's a shame he is teaching math classes where most students don't care and respect math, or seem to care about their education.
Really easy class, especially if you already took calc. Professor Bourhim goes over everything you need to do well in the class. The exams are exactly like the examples in class and the homework. I'd definitely recommend.
Professor Bourhim was easily the best math professor I've ever had - he goes slowly in lectures to make sure that you understand the concepts and how to apply them. His tests are very fair and the homework questions were more difficult than the exam's. If you go to lecture and do the homework it's not hard to get an A. Overall loved him!
This class seems to go by very slowly but only because Professor Bourhim goes over each concept so thoroughly! He made calc easy - his homework problems and practice exams really prepare you for the exams and final. He's very sweet and wants you to do well! Homework is graded on correctness though.
The usual professor: attendance is not mandatory, pop quizzes, four exams, clear lectures, but a bit corny (sometimes). Easy A though, if one studies.
He's a good teacher and very straight forward about what will be on the exams. As long as you go to class regularly and ask questions you should be able to get a decent grade. His lectures are boring at times but all the information will be on the test. He gives pop quizzes and homework due weekly. Intimidating and offended when you need help.
Professor Bourhim is the best at Syracuse. I took calc last year and got an incomplete because I could not understand the material with my old professor. I'm finishing the class with Bourhim and I understand everything so much better. He will meet up with you to go over any material and will explain it to you clearly problem by problem.
When I first started the class I didnt understand very much because of his accent. But, after a couple of days of getting used to it, it wasnt too bad. I am not very good at math, so I had to attend every lecture to really understandl. Overall, he is a great professor, and he will do anything to help his students succeed. I highly recommend!
Took him for business calc and he was a great professor. I took calc in high school so taking his class was super easy. He made his lectures clear and the exams were exactly like the HW/notes he taught in class.
He just regurgitates information and formulas at you the whole lecture. I have no idea how anything we've discussed actually works or how to use the formulas. He gets mad when you ask questions so its hard to say anything if you don't understand.
Latif knows his stuff... sometimes a bit too much. At the start of each lecture he would write numerous formulas on the board as review; it would have been better if he handed out a review sheet with the formulas to save time! On the other hand, he is an easygoing grader, and he gives detailed feedback if you make a mistake on a quiz or exam.
This man is amazing! He sometimes take attendance because the lecture is suppose to have 150 students and maybe 50 showed up. So I wouldn't skip all the time, maybe occasionally. I never study cause the exams are open book.
Would be a great professor from my point of view if I had him as a professor in a smaller setting. It is difficult to understand what he is saying during lecture because he tends to repeat things in more complicated terms over and over again. It just gets confusing. Nice man, though.
Grading criteria is clear and the workload is very manageable.
Hes cool he lets you have open book tests but you have to go to class. Also dont talk in class cause hell call you out and if you dont understand something just ask your ta because he gets frustrated.
Dr. Bourhim is a wonderful man and he truly cares about his students. A lot of people do not like him because he calls you out for talking but just do not talk then? His lectures aren't mandatory. You can have open notes on ALL exams. He is truly an amazing guy outside of class and very helpful. I wish I could take this class all over again.
Homework is done in class and I did not need to buy the minitabe book, but the textbook was needed. With his accent it can sometimes be hard to understand him and his classes are boring. If you need a math class I would say take him to get it over with. He is okay (not bad, but not great). If you take his class you will not regret it
Professor Latif is a wonderful man, he truly cares about his students and even though his lectures can be boring he does try to crack a few jokes here and there to make it bearable. All tests are open notes and you can use sticky notes to write examples down. I wish I could take him again for calculus.
In the beginning I did not enjoy his class all that much but over the semester I ended up truly enjoying it. Tests are open book, and you are allowed to write things down on posits in the book. Make sure you go over the chapters before the test. Prof. Bourhim was great to speak to during office hours and was very helpful going over tests.
Dr. Bourhim is such a great professor. Although his lectures are long and boring he makes perfect sense in every single one of them and gives many chances to improve your grade. 100% would take him again.
In lectures he really just uses a lot of examples so be ready to either really pay attention, get outside help, or teach yourself. He's pretty lenient with attendance and only started when less that half the class would show up so make friends in the class. The tests are all open book and he lets you use sticky notes so make sure you use that well
Prof Latif is a great guy. People who say rude things about him are just salty because they put zero effort into his class and get upset when they don't know what to do ON AN OPEN BOOK TEST. go to class if you dont understand, or dont and teach yourself. He is a smart guy, knows his stuff, and actually wants you to learn. Take his class!
He is one of the best professors I've had a Syracuse. His thorough process of laying out the material helped me succeed in this class. Professor Bourhim cares about his students and their understanding of the criteria. I would highly recommend taking his courses!
One of the best professors Ive had at SU. I took this class after reading that he has open note exams but for my class, this wasnt the case. I was scared since this was calc3 but his lectures were very clear to understand and he really knows his stuff! He really wants you to learn and it was nice to see a very smart, yet humble professor.
Prof. Bourhim is nice enough but if youre not good at math, be prepared to get a tutor or see your TA frequently. I went to every lecture and took advantage of the open-book exam policy but still struggled with my grades and had to teach myself. Exams are a HUGE portion of the final grade and each one only has a few questions.
Sit near the front of the huge lecture hall otherwise, you won't hear him & sign up for Chegg to find hw solutions. MAT 121 has open book exams so literally copy examples and the study guides that he sends prior to the exam. I didn't know how to do the last two exams and received a 91% and 96% for using solutions from similarly worded questions.
He talks very low so you'll barely understand him and if you raise your hand to ask a question, he'll be rude and would make you feel stupid. The only good thing is that he lets students bring their textbooks for exams so you'll easily pass because of the exams and the homework are online and sometimes easy.
He is a bum of a teacher. He gets rude to students when they ask questions. A girl asked a question and he replies saying "what do you think the answer is?" Why you think she asked clown. He just shoves formulas in your face and expects you to understand. If you are rude to your students who ask questions you should not be a teacher.
Professor Bourhim is such as great professor! He is very patient and helpful to all students. Tests are easy as long as go to lectures and do the homeworks.
Its open-note tests and he gives review sheets for each test. Shouldn't fail this class.
Do well on tests and assignments and youll be fine. Lecture is soooo boring.
Lectures were very boring and sometimes hard to follow. Homework was fine but you're going to have to teach yourself. Exams were pretty easy. Seems like a good guy.
He is more of a dry lecturer but overall this class was easy. If you watched the lectures, and did the homework and quizzes, you would do well on the exams.
Although a nice guy, wow can he not teach. I didn't attend one lecture this semester because it wasn't worth it. I just taught it to myself and I didn't even buy the textbook I just used the notes on blackboard. For me it was an easy A because I put work in but if you are bad at math STEER CLEAR THIS MAN WILL NOT HELP. He does respond to emails tho
Honestly, Bourhim was a fantastic professor. Sometimes, the material could get difficult but he was more than happy to meet outside of class (literally anytime) and he also had multiple office hour sessions a week where he was incredibly helpful, especially when it came to homework. I would definitely take MAT 122 just to have him again.
MAT 121 is a part of the core curriculum for most SU students, it's boring and sometimes hard to do. Do not buy the textbook, you won't use it.
definitely one of the best professors I've meet in Syracuse! Even though there were lots of homework in total, you will be fine if you do each one after each lecture. Also, the exam is not hard, use the homework, lecture notes, and study guide(!!!) is important. Professor Bourhim is always welcome if you are asking questions.
Bourhim is the best. I finished with an A and that's largely due to Bourhim's teaching. The man can explain stats to anyone. He is also accessible outside of class and will help you work through the homework. The exams are only 7-8 questions and he is a fair grader. He drops a few bad homework grades and answers emails within minutes. Take Bourhim
Hard to understand, but notes are very useful and all tests are open notes. Only 4 tests the whole semester and homework is easy to complete as long as you understand the material in the powerpoints.
Professor Bourhim honestly might be one of the best math professors I've ever had. He's an excellent teacher and his classes are so organized. He can make hard topics easy to understand. I've never done this well in a math class and I really do believe it's because of how great a math teacher he is. Tests are open-notes and he gives the formulas.
bourhim is honestly the greatest. ive never been good at math but he helped me understand. tests are easy and open notes. super accessible outside of class for extra help. you can tell he really wants you to pass and will do anything to help. really caring guy. sit close to him in lecture bc hes a little quiet. if you go to class you will get an A
Bourhim is great! He is a little difficult to understand in class at times but honestly if you just write down everything he puts on his PowerPoint you will be good. He posts all of his lecture notes on blackboard. All of the exams are easy and fully open note. There is a textbook but you don't really use it as all homework is on webwork online.
Professor Bourhim made Probability and Statistics a generally easily understandable concept, which is surprising for me to say because I am terrible at math. As long as you attend the lectures and take in-depth notes on the powerpoints and example problems, you should be fine since the tests are open note. Just make sure to remember the Webwork HW.
Good teacher, but slightly hard to understand due to heavy accent + mask + poor speaker system. Webwork HW is the hardest part about the class, the open-note exams are easy. Lecture notes are online so attendance is optional if you can learn the material on your own using the lecture notes and textbook. Should be an easy A for competent students.
Easy lectures which are also posted online. Just copying notes. Homework is the hardest part, which isn't too bad. TA's are amazing and will help with homework. Open notes exams. Labs once a week, super quick, with very helpful TA's.
Bourhim is an amazing professor. Attending lecture may not be mandatory, but I strongly suggest that you show up. He posts his lecture notes and is always considerate of his students.
The best math professor. Can use notes on exams
Latif is an awesome professor. I swear he could teach stats to a rock. his accent is a little difficult to get used to at first but if you attend the lectures and pay attention, you will catch on within the first week. the recitation is very easy, you just learn how to use Minitab (basically excel) and submit very easy assignments.
He is a good professor. Lectures not required, and he posts notes outside of class. Every time I contact him and he answers within a good amount of time. He explains stats well, and the tests are always exactly what you expect. I had a terrible TA, so that was the only downside of this class. It is a lot harder than MAT121.
He is an absolutely amazing Professor. He makes difficult concepts very easy to understand and is accessible outside class. His passion can easily be seen during lectures and is truly infectious. Do take him if you get the choice!
He was a great professor and the class is clearly outlined. Do the homework and come to class! The quizzes aren't hard and a lot of times he lets you take them home. Pay attention, ask questions, and use office hours if you need help. He is very kind and always willing to explain things to you.Tests are the biggest part of your grade, so study!
He is a quiet lecturer who expects you to know certain topics before you come to class. His tests are long and complicated, but if you pay attention you can do well. He has quizzes almost every other lecture based on a problem we do in class.
He's good at teaching topics and making it simple to understand.
I hate math more than anything and only took math121 because I had to. I fully expected to get a B at best but Bourhim is a literal angel. If you take notes in class and do the homework (a week early for extra credit) you will get an A on all of his tests.
Love him. Really easy tests if you take good notes in class because everything is open note. Attendance isn't mandatory but I would recommend going when you can because his examples in lectures are the exact problems on tests. Homework is the hardest part but you can get extra credit for doing it on time.
Not only is Professor Bourhim a really nice person but he is also an AMAZING professor. He makes it really easy to understand complicated concepts given you pay attention in class. He gives you all the materials to be to succeed in his class and he cares a lot about his students. I would take 100% recommend taking his class if you have the choice!
Professor Bourhim is amazing! He makes concepts easy to understand because he is an excellent teacher. Attend the lectures because the problems done in class are often on the test. Take good notes because he allows you to use them during the exams. He provides extra credit for homework if handed in early. Easy A if you put in the effort.
I would definitely recommend taking a class with Prof. Bourhim! He is so kind and genuinely cares about his students. There are many extra credit opportunities and all tests are open note, so it should be easy to get an A as long as you go to class and take notes. Lectures can be dry at times, but it was very easy to follow what he was doing.
Very nice professor but very hard to understand (has very strong accent). His lectures are very straight forward as he shows the work and completes example problems by hand which is helpful. Open note tests which is really nice. Attendance isn't mandatory but go to the lectures because it really helps understand the course and work.
Professor Bourhim is super sweet and truly cares about his students, his lectures are boring but if you show listen and do the homework you will do extremely well on the exams. He is extremely responsive outside of class hours and overall great.
Bourhim is condescending. I would not recommend this class unless you have to take it with him.
I only took this class with Bourhim due to his ratings, but he is an absolute nightmare. He can barley teach, gives a shit ton of homework. Grade is basically only exams which are hard for no damm reason. This is your warning, USE A DIFFERENT PROFESSOR!
Great professor. Covers everything in detail during lecture. Hard to understand because of accent, but you get used to it. All exams are open note. If you pay attention, attend lecture, take notes, and do the homework, you'll be golden for the exams. Attendance isn't mandatory but it's definitely effective for your grade.
Do yourself a favor and take his class instead of MAT 221. Super easy, open note exams. Labs are also easy if you have a good TA. Lectures are boring, but he clearly explains all of the concepts and makes sure you understand what is going on.
He assigns lots of homework and exams. He is condescending and will be rude to you if he thinks your question is dumb. You can never understand what he is saying during lecture. Would not recommend
The lectures were very helpful. The math was easy to understand and very clear.
Recommend going to lectures or at least copying the notes posted on blackboard. You have to take 3 exams but are open note (only handwritten) & similar to the examples during lecture. Have to do webwork h.w. but extra credit if you get them done early. A lot of the material is connected so make sure you understand. Also quizzes during recitation.
Great professor! He gives diagrams of step-by-step strategies on how to solve problems which makes note-taking easier. If you are listening and consistently in attendance you will do great! He definitely takes note of who's participating so try to get a couple answers/questions in. He's very responsive outside of class so take advantage of that!
Clear grader, made Business Calculus much more manageable than I expected. Super resourceful and great at explaining things I had trouble with. Accepted student feedback and was overall very fair. If you participate and put your effort in, you will ace this class.
love him, gives open book tests and uploads all of his lectures. emails back fast. not a lot of homework
I took a similar course in high school, so the concepts are familiar to me, but he can be hard to understand at times. I do love that he allows open notes in exams, though. As long as you come to lectures and prepare good notes for exams, than you'll be fine.
Professor Bourhim is a very intelligent and straight forward teacher. He cares about his students, and at the end of each lecture posts his in-class notes on Black Board in case you missed his lecture. His tests are open note, so copy down his in-class notes for an easy A. Very easy to follow and loves to answer questions. Slight speaking accent.
Trouble understanding him, especially with wearing a mask
Professor Bourhim was both a competent and stand-up guy. You could tell he clearly knew his stuff and gave very accurate examples to questions we would see in homework and tests. He was very helpful in helping me work out conflicts and all in all a great guy.
Professor Bourhim was very straightforward and the class is an easy A as long as you go to lecture and take notes
Go to office hours.
He was very good at keeping lectures clear and concise. There's great opportunity to get extra credit if you finish HW assignments early, which I strongly encourage doing because it boosted my grade a lot. Take good notes because tests are all open note.
Lectures was really helpful, make sure to take good notes. Most of the quizzes were open notes in class or take home. Exams were related to lectures and practice problems done in class. The professor is really great, he will not let you fail if he sees that you are trying.
easy a BUT could not understand at all and extremely rude when asking questions or anything having to do with talking to him after class or over email and does not respond to emails
Very easy, he explains every concept & does many examples. Homework questions are harder than the exams but he answers emails with explanations. Exams are very easy and are open note as long as they're handwritten. There is a textbook but don't need it, Stopped going to lectures and was able to teach myself the material from his slides and get an A
The key to success is copying his notes word for word, doing the homework during the extra credit period & applying yourself during labs. Bourhim is readily available outside of class to answer questions. Attending class is optional but use that time wisely to work on homework, take notes, or get familiar with the calculator functions.
This class is crazy easy. All the tests are open note and you get extra credit by turning in the homework early (my HW grade was 130/100). That being said, sometimes the homework can be difficult, but try to get all the easy ones done (especially in the extra credit window) and you can afford to skip a few questions.
don't have to show up, very easy course
Doesn't take attendance, never went to lecture and finished with a 105. Only 4 tests, all open note so you can bring everything. HW harder than material learned in class but can look them up. Lab was unnecessary but required. Such an easy class.
lectures are boring. super easy exams because open notes so TAKE NOTES! that is how you will get an A. homework can take some time to finish bc its a lot but the questions are repetitive so not hard after you get the first few done. lots of extra credit homework. If you are taking this course to learn - DONT. if taking for credit and easy course DO
Great teacher, goes over topics with multiple examples so you really understand it. Gives extra credit if homework is done early, and allows open note quizzes and tests. Class is very easy as long as you put in the effort and have good notes.
Great professor! Very easy going and helpful.
I never write reviews, but years later, I'm in grad school now, and I still think about what in amazing professor Bourhim is. I took him for stats 1 and 2 and I loved him so much. I always went to office hours and the professor was always so helpful. He made me want to minor in stats, I still wish I did.
He started taking attendance for the class half-way through the semester. Labs are easy. Tests are all open note. He posts study guides which are exactly like the test.
Super easy. Tests are all open book so make sure to write the slides word for word. Attendance wasn't mandatory in the beginning and then by mid semester he started taking random attendance. Lectures are really boring but he posts the slides.
he was awesome so much extra credit and he's pretty chill. tests are open note
He was great! Honestly just a great class to take with him, all his lectures were in depth and informative and he posts all the edited versions online after class. ALL EXAMS ARE OPEN NOTE if you take notes you'll pass. Super chill and easy to talk to, he'll give help with anything and will give extensions.
He's great! Lectures are boring but that comes with every math class. All exams are open notes so I wouldn't skip lecture. By far the easiest math i've ever taken, so much extra credit if you do the hw on time.
Super easy class, 3 tests and 1 final exam made up most of grade. All tests/exams were open note and he posted a study guide before each test. Take notes during the lectures and you'll get an easy A.
My experience with this prof was very positive. He is ultimately a caring a passionate guy who wants his students to succeed. If you go to lecture and pay attention you will do fine
He was awesome and had meaningful lectures. He gave good grades to him. He was also fun.
Lots of homework assigned on Webworks but it took up very little of my time and was helpful. All exams are open note so if you attend lecture and actively take notes you will pass! He does review before every exam and everything he reviews is on the exam. He is caring and answers emails quickly. Overall, great professor and made math easy.
Class was as easy as stats gets. I never went to lectures and I'm awful at math. All exams are open note so if you copy down the notes (which he posts online) a few nights before, you'll be fine (start 2 nights before, it's a lot of content). His lectures are intelligible and impossible to understand. Go to your labs and do the hw early for EC.
Easy A if you take notes and do the homework. Exams are open-note, so reviewing those notes is key. Unstuckstudy was a big help for practice problems. Lectures can be dry, but worth attending to stay on track.
Class was NOT mandatory. He posts the notes every week from the lectures and every test was open note.
He is a little hard to understand sometimes, but he made me like math (stats) again. He's pretty funny too. Open-note exams, extra credit for submitting homework early. GO TO CLASS! You will get lost if you skip. A few people say he starts taking attendance midway through, but it doesn't count for anything.
Professor Bourhim is an amazing professor. His lectures are straight to the point and give you what you need to know. Lectures are not mandatory, but going to them will almost guarantee an A in the class.
All grades come from 4 tests. all tests open note but you need to have handwritten notes. Teacher is awful and does not engage students. All slides posted after each lecture.
He's actually so cutiepie Great teacher and lenient with deadlines, so easy if you pay attention and give it some effort.
If you don't do well on the exams, you will need to drop the class, as they are 25/30% of your grade each. However, I found them very easy; he always curved them, meaning many of the students got over 100%. You will learn absolutely nothing in class, only in recitation. Overall not bad he assigns a lot of homework but it's doable.
I'm not a math person at all, and I spend a fair amount of time actually studying to try and pass. Professor Bourhim gives good lectures and goes slow through all the problems while giving time to ask questions. It was a test heavy class with 3 exams making up 80 percent of your grade, but he provides tons of resources to succeed.
Take Bourhim for MAT284! He explains the material clearly and slowly and answers questions clearly. He also gives extra credit for doing homework early. The tests aren't too hard if you study go to recitation. BEWARE- the tests including the final are worth 80% of the overall grade. The recitation in this class is SO helpful. Would take him again.
Only take this class if you can sit for the entire hour and thirty minutes without getting distracted. The class is extremely test-heavy and quiz-heavy. I found that the homework assignments typically didn't resemble the examples he gave in class. Gets agitated at students frequently.
Very Good, Professor. Teaches well and explains very clearly. Attendance is Mandatory, and there will be pop quizzes. However, the quizzes are straightforward. The professor is very accessible outside of class. Tests are average difficulty as long as you study.
His lectures are a lot, but the material is not difficult, and he explains it well. Tests are very easy as long as you study. I am taking his MAT 284 class right now, and he offers a lot of extra credit as well.
Do the homework and learn the content, it really is that easy.
Would not take the class if you have a low attention span.
