I highly recommend Professor Maye. He is a pretty young guy, and could be a bit silly at times. If you want an easy A then take him. As long as you come to class each day and do the homework, you should get at least an A.
Professor Maye was a really good teacher up until I got sick and ended up medically withdrawing (it took him two weeks to contact me). In class, he is very helpful always explaining everything on an elementary level. He always stops to make sure everyone is following. He does have a super thick accent if you can get over that, just listen closely.
Professor Maye can be a bit uptight and rigid when it comes to grading. His tests are ridiculous for a general education class. 2 major tests, 100 points, 10 problems. So bomb one you're screwed. He's a good guy, just an uptight guy when it comes to grading. He expects a lot out of you. FYI I took Calculus and this was hard for the wrong reasons.
Professor Maye teaches really well. The material was basic. The only downfall is that he definitely challenges you with his stupidly difficult tests that can either make or break your grade.
After one too many low blows on regular and homework quizzes, I just can't give him a recommendation. Being that this is his second or third year, I wouldn't call him a great teacher, but he does enjoy teaching which is nice and I think it's safe to say he will become a better teacher in time, hopefully.
He's an OK guy. Not the best, just meh. His tests are harder than they should be. He takes so much time trying to explain things that a more experienced teacher would explain in 5 minutes. I don't recommend him.
Professor Maye is a genuine guy that really cares about his students. However as a new teacher his teaching skills are very undeveloped. Much of the class time is spent watching him copy things onto the board that could be found in the book. His tests are MUCH harder than the easy material during class and HW. Very frustrating Would not recommend.
So he's from Africa and has a thick accent. His lectures are extremely long and he is never clear about what he's teaching, it's almost like he is trying to teach himself instead of the class. DO NOT TAKE HIM. He also does not help with questions in class, he only repeats exactly what he just said. DO NOT TAKE HIM!
He is one of the worst math teachers I have ever taken, and I am a math major. I would never recommend taking his classes. The homework is incredibly easy but he spends most of class time rewriting the book onto the board and then gives tests and quizzes that have nothing to do with what we learned. Don't even think about taking him!
He's a newer teacher, but I would say 99.9% of his students would agree that he is not cut out for it. He spends most of the classes rushing through the lessons and does not reply to emails about homework. He expects students to remember everything from past math classes and learn everything right after he teaches it. Definitely do not recommend!
He is hands down the worst teacher i have ever had. He can't answer questions that you have. He relies on the math learning center to pick up where he leaves off. He doesn't review for tests and there are only 2 of them so if you fail one, its almost impossible to pass this class.
Absolutely the worst teacher I've ever had. Mr. Maye is one of those teachers who is very qualified in the subject matter but awful at teaching it. He is awful at time management. Shown up late multiple times, underestimates how much time we have to complete tests, then rushes us through them. Tacked on a last minute chapter to the final. AWFUL.
Professor Maye is an amazing teacher. He cares about his students and will help you until you understand. He is very nice and has a sense of humor. Your book is necessary and attendance isn't mandatory but to your advantage. Take him you won't regret it.
Mr. Maye is a good person but a very poor math teacher. In class, expect to receive poor education that will not prepare you for the quizzes and exams. He uses unnecessary time writing concepts on the board and rushes through actually solving equations. He doesn't listen to the students feedback and 3 exams are graded using a scantron, horrible!!!
The only way to pass this class is to go to the learning commons. This teacher does barely any examples and the homework he assigns doesn't correlate with the tests and quizzes at all. He only knows how to explain things one way and if that way doesn't work for you, you are out of luck. If you don't have to take him, don't.
I took this class because it was the only one offered for this subject and time I needed. He is hard to understand , ill prepared for class, does not respond to emails, does not give clear answers to questions asked. all grades were on curve since whole class struggled. He had the gall to ask us to rate him good on here before final! worst teacher!
He has such a deep accent that it's hard to learn everything. He does really well with helping his students and wants them to get the problems given. Most quizzez are taken with a group which is good, but the test are taken on you're own. The test are not that hard, if you pay attention to what he teaches you.
He is a little hard to understand but he truly wants his students to do well. You have a quiz every week but they are mostly group quizzes which helps a lot.

He is a very poor teacher, Though as a person he is nice and does care. He makes a lot of mistakes and sometimes cannot solve problems himself. I had to teach myself a lot of the material because he does not teach a lot of it. Tests and quizzes are a lot harder than homework and a lot of material is on there that he does not teach. Dont take!
He is very bad at teaching. I had one homework question for him honestly, was not able to solve it. Doesn't make any sense what he's trying to tell. Waste of time on writing board. Whatever he teaches is nothing on tests or quizzes. So POOOOORRRRRRRRRR .... Never take him......
This professor is very difficult to understand secondary to his thick accent. His responsiveness to emails is terrible. This is a waste of time and money and reflects very poorly on COD. I'm going to file a formal complaint with the school.
The professor assign an unrealistic amount of homework. The professor will explain problems very quickly and would not give you enough time to solve them. The professor talks to the board while solving a problem. He messes a lot of the problems up and creates a lot more confusion than necessary.
This was the most horrendous experience i have had in a math class. Mr. Maye might be a sweet person outside the class but in class he is a true struggle to learn anything with. He rushes the material half of the time, he assigns homework problems that we wouldnt how to do and he himself screws up his own examples in class. Skip this class please.
Regardless of his poor ratings he was actually good just know when choosing this professor you must attend every class in order to understand. He is very Understanding he holds himself back to help you. I passed because of him.

Very bad at explaining things, and almost seemed as if he didn't know how. He is a nice guy, but teaching is not his specialty. Everything he does seems as if he is reading directly out of a book, and if you ask him something outside of that book, he will not know how to help you.

Does not answer emails, tells you not to email him. Doesnt grade homework, which is crucial to math. Minimum effort in his lectures, just uses book and puts it in a slide. You basically teach yourself everything to succeed. Only grades tests and quizzes. Very hard to understand. This is not a personal remark, my whole class felt the same.
He's nice which makes me sad to write this review, but skip this class. His lectures are straight from the book, very confusing and convoluted, and I did not learn anything. He does not grade ANY homework which poorly affected my grade. Also literally tells you not to email him, never responds if you do.
Others have talked about his accent, it's really not that bad. Very easy class if you participate. He rushed at the end so I didn't learn much then, but the rest of the semester went well.
Do not take his class unless you want your GPA to go down. Impossible to get an A, very hard to get a B, if you try maybe you will get a C if you're lucky. Often messes up his own examples, gets confused, doesn't let you ask questions because it's a waste of his time, rushes, gets annoyed when you don't understand something, very hard to understand
Mr. Maye only grades through exams and quizzes, does not answer questions in class fully, and never finishes the lectures within the time of the class. I would not recommend ever taking Math 1218 through him and if there is no other options then wait until your next semester so you are able to select a different professor.
He is a good teacher. His accent isnt hard to understand at all. He does only grade quizzes and exams but he assigns homework and if you do the homework your set for this class. The lessons arent that hard if you just put in the work and dont skip class. ask questions if you are confused.He wont move on until you understand what he is teaching.

Maye does not want students to email him for help on assignments. He rushes through his lectures without having any time for questions. As a student who already struggles with math, this class is very difficult especially the way he teaches. He gets annoyed when students don't get the material. Don't waste your time, take it with another professor.
He is a nice person so it sucks to write this review. When we ask questions it's as if he doesn't know how to answer them and does NOT explain material well, again it's almost as if he doesn't get some things he teaches. Questions on the tests are NOTHING like you practice during lecture. Don't waste your time take this class with someone else.
I wonder why this professor was rated so low. I LOVED HIM!!! He was such an easy grader and never gave me lower than a C on any test. As long as you tried a problem on a test, he would try to provide you with any credit he could. I WOULD TAKE HIM AGAIN. He is honestly amazing. 10/10 he is also super nice.

Professor Maye is a fantastic teacher. He simplifies math for health and makes it very easy to convert for dosage calculations. There might be an opportunity for extra credit too and group work. I would take another class by Professor Maye.

That's the best teacher, his explanations were fantastic, I even started to like math and got A. I would say that I didn't have to study hard, because I got enough information from the lectures. I don't know how to express my gratitude, but I wanna take more of his classes in the future!!! + he is extremely caring, punctual and kind
Best teacher ever Very funny , very energetic enthusiastic person ,wonderful sense of humor . He always made his class really fun and always tells funny jokes . Material is not easy but thanks to profesor everything went smooth and understandable He always helps ,answers for question and give extra credit if you want He does not want you to fall
Professor Maye has been a blessing to have. He cares so much about his students and wants them to do well. No homework but if you do it you do better in the class. He offered extra credit at the end of the semester. His jokes were the best ever!! Please take him you will not regret it! He will truly make you love math as much as he does.
Mr. Maye made Math 1102 enjoyable during lectures he would crack jokes to make his students laugh, and the class enjoyed the jokes and references he made regarding math. Just show up pay attention to lectures and do the assigned homework and you'll be fine! Also, he is lenient when it comes to grading tests and quizzes.
He is a very good professor he cares about his student and wants them to achieve an A in his class. Professor Maye is very funny, he makes his students laugh and he is really helpful and nice. He would share his stories of him and him traveling and he never disappoints. His lectures are not hard you just have to pay attention and asks questions.
I agree with many other reviews here that he isn't great at explaining concepts in an easy to understand way. Though he's very kind and understanding. He has an... interesting way of handling some tests, and with that you'd have to try VERY hard to fail this class. If you do somehow manage to fail his class you probably shouldn't even be in college
He maybe hard to understand because of his accents but his way of approaching test and quizzes makes it very very easy for you to pass the class. Hes very clear about what you need to know for the test and exams. As long as you do the HW you'll do great on the test. Plus he makes it very hard for you to fail this class.
This professor is a tough grader. Will gives lots of homework, doesn't grade any of it. Only grades tests and quizzes. Will read form the board, and will call students out for minor inconvenience. Refuses to acknowledge accommodations
Lots of homework that is not graded. Reads straight from the book. Refuses to answer emails because "we should be talking to each other." Talks about himself more than the material. Part time and doesn't have a job in the medical field. Please just take a different professor. I spent too much money on the class and TWO HUNDRED DOLLAR BOOK!
Professor Maye is a fantastic teacher! He always makes sure everyone is on the same page and will gladly go over anything that might be difficult or confusing. The only thing I would emphasize is that he only posts grades in Blackboard so be sure to show up to class for all test/ quiz announcements.
Professor Maye was great! He made his lecture interesting and took the time to answer questions. Homework is assigned to use for further understanding but not graded. Many test and quiz questions were inspired from hw and in class problems. Just show up to class and review material and you'll pass. Really recommend taking his class!
Professor Maye was very nice and very helpful. He doesn't check homework but you have to do it in order to learn the material. The material is slightly difficult and at times it was hard to understand but he makes sure to ask before moving on and always would clarify when asked. We got a lot of help from him, I definitely recommend.
He's friendly, but as a professor, his teaching is hard to follow. Grades rely on a few quizzes and three exams—no homework or completion work. His test questions are confusing, and he doesn't take responsibility for low averages (1st 2 exam averages were 59% and 65%). Great for confident math students, but not ideal if you need clear guidance.
Allowed group quizzes and was very nice. But Missed tests meant a 0 with almost no exceptions. He might also spew out political beliefs that I and the class didn't really mind. But I wouldn't recommend his class to someone can't hold themselves together if maye states something they disagree with politically. Overall he is a very upbeat person.
only take this class if you want a professor that goes off on unrelated and confusing tangents to try and "explain" the material while making unfunny and irritating jokes throughout his incoherent lectures. homework does not count for a grade and he will not let you make up any of the 8 things we are graded on. DOES NOT USE BLACKBOARD OR EMAIL!!
I took his class once before and he was the only professor unfortunately to work with my schedule. The last class was allowed group quizzes this class has not had that luxury. You would think taking the class a second time would be easier but he still doesn't make the material easy to comprehend. if you take him good luck.
This guy made simple math confusing. Very hard to reach outside of class.
Clear and structured teaching style. He explains topics, gives homework, and checks for questions before moving on. Grading is fair: 5 quizzes (lowest dropped), 2 exams, extra credit project, and sometimes allow group exams. Jokes can be distracting but lighten the mood. Overall, he's organized, fair, and approachable. Definitely a good experience!
Professor Maye is a great teacher with awesome jokes, always interacting with his students. He is not very strict, doesn't grade homework, and is overall a kind spirited person. I would definitely take another one of his courses in the future. 10/10
Mr. Maye makes the math lectures entertaining and helps each student succeed. The only downside is that he doesn't assign homework and uses the test to tell whether you know the material. He also connects with students to get to know them better, which means he cares about his students. W professor
At the beginning of the year he said that this class was going to be easy but by the end of the year it seemed like nobody knew what they were doing. He made simple math a lot more confusing than it should be. He grades only quizzes and tests so failing one or two will hurt your grade. I felt this class would've been better with a different teacher
Professor Maye was really good this semester! When lecturing the subject and you have questions or concerns he will stop and explain everything all over again. So if you're looking for a math class take him and you'll pass the course. I do recommend professor Maye!
He was not very easy to understand. Explained the content poorly causing more confusion. If you had the choice between taking him and graduating or taking another semester. Take another semester. Some people just shouldn't be teachers.
mr maye was a great professor and noticed when we were all having problems learning and understanding the content had no problem reexplaining in a different way- he very forgiving/understanding. at one point as a class we were struggling with a unit and for those tests he let us do it in a group so we were help each other out 10/10 would recommend
Prof. was organized but he used to read from a piece of paper all the time, it gave me an impression that he had not that much of knowledge about the subject as he had lectures on a paper for MATHS!?
Mr. Maye is one of the best Professors I've ever had the pleasure of having. He is extremely happy and full of joy, loves to teach and is extremely fair on grading. His infectious smile and crazy stories he relates from Africa never fail to make the class laugh. Absolutely would take again.
Professor was very nice and clear about expectations from day one. He gives 3 tests (100 pts each) and a few quizzes (12.5 pts each).make sure to doALL the practice problems from the textbook bc that's what helped me the most. Show all your work; even if the answer's wrong, he gives credit for correct steps, which is very fair.
He has a nice personality, but his teaching is bad. He makes students write and solve the problems on the board, and barely explains it. He goes by the lectures very quickly, he's teaching medical math but talks and compares the problems to soccer? and other unrelated topics that have nothing to do with the medical field. I can keep going on.

Very good teacher explains it very well. Will have you try it on your own. Also very helpful if you have questions and gives extra review time. Test are around 10 questions and there from the homework. Homework is the best thing to help. Overall very good and would retake.

Do not waste your time or money with this teacher, he does not care nor answer his emails. He barely explains the problems and expects us to memorize everything in less than a week. He was the only professor left for this semester, so I had no option. He gives tons of homework and does not give points for it. Only grades are test and exams.
He does not care to read his emails. Does not follow the syllabus that he posts at the start of the semester. Does not explain the lectures and materials at all and makes his students teach the class. Homework does not count for a grade and class is based off of test and quizzes. The tests are nothing like the materials done in class.
I consider myself a motivated student, I cannot emphasize enough truly how incredibly difficult he made this class than from what it should have been. Material itself is easy, but he only grades tests and quizzes, does not respond, does not care to help whatsoever. Don't bother registering for his class, you will fail.
I took this class during the night but in those three hours Mr.Maye made it bearable. Hes great guy and knows what he's talking about. There is only so many assignments that are actually graded.

The class itself is a hard bit to be fair I've never been good at math. The professor definitely makes it bearable he's very funny and keeps that dreadful math entertaining he's really nice too and wants all of us to pass and do good I would highly recommend him.
Very friendly and kind professor, would 100% choose him for any future math courses again. Taught us the easiest way to do math! Always understanding with grading, especially if you show your work. I looked forward to his lectures.
The teacher is very funny and helpful. And he gives group quizzes to help you succeed in class and although he goes over questions quickly but would if you ask to slow he would do so and help you out if you don't understand.

He is a fun and engaging professor who genuinely cares about his students. His teaching style makes the material easier to understand, and he explains concepts clearly and patiently. He encourages questions and creates a supportive learning environment, which makes class more enjoyable and effective.
I do not recommend this professor. Lectures focus more on jokes than instruction, material is poorly explained, emails go unanswered, and grades rely almost entirely on quizzes and exams, making the course difficult to pass. He does lower the grading scale.
