He was a little scary at first, but once the semester got rolling, he was kinda funny, and he did a good job of teaching the material. The tests were not exactly easy, but he did a good job of preparing us for the tests.
I would highly recommend him. He doesn't like to answer many questions, but usually explains the material in a way that you won't have any questions. His exams are pretty difficult, but he does a good job of preparing you for them.
He teaches material very well.He doesn't like to answer questions so make sure you make friends with the people you sit next to so you can help eachother.Tests are VERY straight forward and not that difficult if you prepare.I would totally recommend him
gets really excited about what he is teaching, don't talk in class or show up late and you'll be fine. not an easy class but he made it understandable for me and my friends
He loves to teach stats and is usually jumping up and down. Talks really loud and have to listen well since he has a think accent. Will criticize you if you don't know how to do the samples in class. Expects a lot. Exams are basted of HW probs.
He was great!! My friend and I got so many funny quotes from him, like "there is no magic here" and other such things. He made learning stats easy, but the tests were challenging. Definitly take him if you hate math and want a few laughs in b
Explains material very well and makes it easy. Also very lenient on due dates for homework. Very good over all.
I went in this course thinking it was going to be soooo hard! It was actually kind of easy. He explains things VERY well. Very repetive, but it's a good thing b/c things will stick into your head better that way. No tricks to his exams.
He took a dilike to me and picked on me all semester... Very unhelpful and tend to rattle on about things... Good class if you don't understand what's going on, but if you can do math don't take him
So loud! He does have some funny comments, but he is not the easiest teacher to understand. The tests are pretty hard. Does give help if you go in to his office hours.
He definitely knows his stuff! and he gets really excited. He is a funny little man, very entertaining. He will repeat himself over and over to drive points in. Do the homework and go to class and you will be set.
He's pretty good at explaining how to do things, but he seems a little paranoid. I tried to ask him on three seperate occasions outside of class why a test score didn't add up right and he got all jittery and anxious and blew me off. Eh.
He tends to be kind of a jerk about asking questions...so find someone who will answer your questions. He doesn't make himself clear whilst he is ranting.
Great guy. Makes getting up for an 8:50am worth while.
ROCKS THE STATISTICAL HOUSE! This guy is great and is pretty reliable when you need something to wake you up for class. Stats isn't the easiest, but he goes through the material at a very reasonable pace. Highly recommended! What a stud!
He's an excellent stats teacher. I was dreading the class, but he made if very easy. Do a couple of the homework problems and you'll do fine. He is very clear on all of the material.
I will admit he is entertaining and he does repeat things 5 times, but I found him to be unapproachable. The first day he encouraged us to ask questions, but I found he belittled you when you did ask. Funny accent. My roomate and I have many jokes from his class. "It's easy! Math 1 4 5."
he's a great professor...he does say some wacked stuff but is a great professor...he makes things as simple as possible and so easy to understand...the BEST professor to take STATS with! I got an A!
Alright professor, thinks everyone loves stats as much as him. Also thinks that it should be easy for everyone and is hard on you when you ask questions.
He explains things very clearly and lets you have a packet with the formulas on it for the tests. He has a bit of an accent, which I thought might make it harder for me to understand the math stuff, but it really doesn't affect his teaching. He's good at what he does and is very funny.
Elfessi is the S***..he is hilarious as h*** and is very good at teaching stats.
Didn't like him at all
No Comments
Elfessi is a very funny man and does explain things well. I'm horrible at math and he did make the class easier. However, the things that he explains very well are already easier, the harder areas are still a little confusing with him. Overall I think he is a good teacher, but you still have to work hard. The second test is the hardest.
Elfessi is a pretty good professor-one perk is that he lets you have the formulas, however, it is not easy, the material is pretty hard, but he explains things well. I went to his office though once and asked for help and he wasn't very willing. But there are tutors you can go to.
Very funny, wipes chalk all over his pants. He explains well and gives formulas for the test but the tests are still very hard. He does explain everything about 10 times though.
goes through the material too quickly, any examples he gives are too different from the problems on the test.never gives any help
Dr. Elfessi is EXTREMELY passionate about the material and about us doing well in his class. Sometimes this passion turns in to scolding, or sometimes he makes people feel uncomfortable asking questions. But overall his enthusiasm and clarity make for a positive academic experience.
very intimating professor!! He always made me feel stupid in class because i didn't catch on to what he was talking about. hard person to approch for help. if you don't like stats at all i wouldn't take him but seems like a nice guy outside of stats.
Test 1= ez, test 2= Hardest... pay attention, this man is hilarious. The 80's shirts are top notch, and his teaching is fluid if you PAY ATTENTION. he will often tell you to stop writing and just Pay attention.. for a reason
Amazing professor!!! He goes at just the right pace and summarizes what he talked about the day before so you're not too confused. He's really loud but really funny. He's intimidating but don't let that bring you down. Study Hard!!
Very good professor. He teaches clearly and gets to the point. Covers the test well and assigns homework that reflects what's on the tests. At first he seems very intimidating but you'll get use to it after a week or so. Only bad thing is that he hates answering questions and is a hothead at times, but I would recommend him.
Very interested in how you do, and explains very well. Also is constantly reviewing from the day before which is nice. However, the tests are very hard. I always did perfectly on the homework examples, but poorly on tests. However, he did explain the homework topics very well.
This class was extremely hard, over half the class dropped because they were failing. Very hard exams and no other grades in the class. I did very well on the homework, but terribly on the exams.
Nice guy but insanely hard tests. Somehow I managed to pass the class. Be warned that the tests are ubber hard.
yup, definately the worst prof i've ever had
Pretty good teacher. he has a strong accent which you become accustomed to, but his exams are really hard. There are no points on homework--only the exams. So, don't fail the 5 exams and you won't fail his class-simply said.
Straight Up This Man Knows His Stuff. But His Tests Are Extremely Hard. You Will Learn A Lot From Him But Don't Look To Apply It On The Tests....Your Head Will Be Spinning Both Ways During The Tests.
Typically math is my strongpoint, but this is a challenging class. The guy knows his stuff and teaches thoroughly though. 4 tests, 1 final, thats it...so you cant mess up. very passionate, he runs and yells and makes clouds of chalk dust. sometimes hard to approach. if u have to take stats, i recommend him, but be ready to work!
He's a cool guy. I'd recommend him. His test are rather long and usually take more time than allowed, other than that he's a good teacher
I had to drop this class. I could not stand this professor. He refuses to help you out of class. Ask him a question during or right after class and he will make you feel like a fool. Do all your homework but don't expect to apply it on the tests. Says if you go to class every day you will get an A.If you are a natural at math, maybe, if not, good lu
I would not reccommend this class with Elfessi at all. At first it seems easy, but the tests are ridiculous. The homework seems very easy, but has nothing to do with the tests. I took the first test expecting to get an A and got a D. Tests are hard and long, and final is worth 1/3 of your grade.
This man truly knows his statistics, and remember, this isn't actually a math class. He can be very intimidating and hard to approach, so if you are someone who likes a lot of professor interaction I would avoid him. Not too difficult a class, and if you pay attention and actually understand the concepts, you'll get a decent grade.
If you want to learn something, take this class. If you don't want to work hard, take a different prof. He's not very good about answering questions in class, makes you look like an idiot for asking a question on study day about material he covered 3 weeks prior. He already told you! You should remember! I was afraid to ask questions...
Tests are hard, but if you go to class and listen they're really not that bad at all.
He spoke very fast, writing was not very readable. No quizes, homework but not graded or submitted. We did have several SPSS homework packets to do which were hard. Only went on computers once during entire semester. Graded very hard, limited to no partial credit. Seemed hesitant to help. Not understanding. To give you a better idea of how hard he
This man is honestly the worst professor I have ever taken. He is hard to understand, you cannot read his writing, and he assigns ridiculous amounts of homework on a daily basis. When he provides equation sheets for his exams, be prepared to be utterly confused at the lack of order and clarity. Good Luck if you get stuck with this man as a teacher.
Great teacher! he explains the material well with lots of examples. He doesnt collect the HW so you dont have to do it, its all from the notes.. and hes hilarious!!
I would not recommend taking this teacher unless there is no other choice. Homework has nothing to do with the tests, and the test are extremely hard. If you try to ask him a question he will just make you feel stupid. He is not approachable at all. Smart guy but not a good professor at all!
not a good prof, can't explain things if you are confused and can't understand what he is writing.
I have never been strong in math, so I was nervous to be taking statistics. Well, any hope I had of passing died when I got Elfessi. At first I thought he was quirky, but he's hard to understand, impatient and the material is way too challenging to have someone like him teaching it. I had two friends taking stats too - both dropped like me.
Horrible teacher. Do not ask questions because he will laugh at you "what do you not understand, it is so easy!" He also said that while grading our tests he had to stop and take a break because he was so mad that we were getting things wrong. I ended up dropping along with half of the class. Do not take him!
A lot of people have a lot of bad things to say about Elfessi, but I think he's a great teacher. He really puts a strong emphasis on teaching and class can be fun sometimes. He communicates the subject matter pretty well and reinforces it until you understand it.
I was so frustrated with this man. He is difficult to understand and he makes students feel like complete idiots for asking a question. I was afraid he was going to break the chalkboard in half by how much he pounded on it. Half of the class dropped. Don't take him unless it's your absolute last option. Beware, homework has nothing to do with tests
I am a self-admitted slacker and I don't see the problem with this guy. He's not the greatest professor in the world but you could do a lot worse. He is far easier to understand than everyone says, and I have never seen him make anyone feel "stupid".
Not a bad teacher at all. I am terrible at Math and he was very helpful and cared that I did well. He is not hard to understand either.
Great teacher, very different teaching style. You either hate it or love it, but to be honest it kept me interested because of the massive amount of energy he brings to every class.
He's not as bad as everyone says...probably the least approachable teacher I've ever had, but other than that he teaches the material very well, and assigns hardly any homework. Interesting personality- you will either love or hate it, I thought he was hilarious.
I started out in this class not doing so bad, but only being graded off 4 exams and a final worth 1/3 of your grade isn't really fair when he expects you to be there evreyday and do the homework, yet doesn't give you ANY credit for it. He thinks hes a lot more funnier than he is. I dropped, waste of my time.
Knows what he is talking about and he is easy to understand. Homework is somewhat helpful but not very. The class has very few points and he is one of the toughest graders you will ever had. If your ready to learn a lot and work hard i would recommend him but if youre lazytake somebody else
I think that Elfessi is an outstanding professor.. I would recommend him for anyone.. He really wants you to understand the material and puts it in simple terms.. There is quite a bit of homework but it really helps for the tests! I would definately recommend him!
I thought he was a good teacher. Sometimes said some completely random things, but he also explained things very well. Not that hard to undertand like everyone says. I enjoyed it, but u have to know almost all equations, because he gives u very few for the tests and quizzes! Assigns homework, but u don't have to turn it in, just do it, it helps!
I really enjoyed Elfessi. He was very funny and so helpful. He really puts his students first but you have to make the time to see him. He is more than willing to help. Do the homework!! It's not graded but helps a ton for the exams. I would definitely recommend him.
Contrary to what many think I loved this guy for mth145. If you just go to class and pay attention for 50 min 4x a week and do the 3 homework problems he gives each night it is pretty easy. He clearly stresses the important things and doesnt try to trick you on exams. Not to mention he gives you every formula you need.
Plain and simple...take another teacher. He made fun of many kids in my class for asking reasonable questions, is hard to understand, and thinks he is hilarious when he is definately not.
his personality is a little abrasive, but his method of teaching is very easy to follow, if you pay attention in class. I agree with what someone else wrote, that he clearly emphasizes what he wants you to know, and his exams are very straight forward. I really liked him.
Would not take him ever again. Very unapproachable, frequently gets upset when class has simple questions. Not approachable for extra help. Formula sheets are in no order and hard to read. Homework is assigned, but not graded. Your grade is 4 exams, 4 (10pt quizzes) and a final.
Would not take him ever again. Very unapproachable, frequently gets upset when class has simple questions. Not approachable for extra help. Formula sheets are in no order and hard to read. Homework is assigned, but not graded. Your grade is 4 exams, 4 (10pt quizzes) and a final.
Elfessi is a great teacher. I dont know why people are trashing him. IF YOU GO TO CLASS AND TAKE NOTES... you will be fine. He goes over AND OVER what he wants you to learn and that material is whats on the test! He simplifies stats and is easy to learn from. He's not the friendliest prof but he truly wants everyone to do well. U GET WHAT U PUT IN!
wonderful professor. If you go to class and take notes you don't have to study for the tests. He is very clear and does LOTS of smaple problems that the class works through together. Not much help outside of class but he encourages you to go to the tutor center. He will not like you if you skip alot, but he'll love you if you come and pay attention
Really not that bad of a professor. goes over a lot of examples in class and is very clear about what will be on the tests. The tests are basically the quizzes put together, so if you know the material on the quizzes, those exact same problems will be on the test. He is actually pretty funny at times.
If you show up to class and do the homework, you will do well in the class.
He was one of the most entertaining math teachers I've ever had. Incredibly enthusiastic about statistics and is very clear about what he wants his students to know for the tests. Easy class if you go everyday and do some of the optional homework assignments.
Very clear on what will be on the tests. You go through examples the entire class period, which really helps. If you show up to class and do the examples, you will be fine! He is also very entertaining.
This guy is an all-around great professor. If you go to class and practice the problems you will do great on the test. He's awesome at explaining the material and he gets super into it(so funny). SO glad I took Stats with him!
It is impossible to fall asleep in this class. He is very vocal and keeps you attention. He's hard to argue with to get points back on tests, but he gives you tons of examples. I highly recommend him as a stats professor
Take him! He explains things very clearly and goes over a lot of examples. I took Stats in high school but I think it is easier with Elfessi. And somewhat helpful during office hours.
He is amazing! At first I was nervous because of his accent but you can understand EVERYTHING he says. I actually liked going to his lectures. I will definitely take him in the future!
One of the best professors I've had a UWL. I absolutely hate math, and although he says Statistics isn't math.. it is. He makes class ridiculously interesting; his was actually my favorite class to go to. What other professor will go off track for 8 minutes talking about marijuana? Seriously, take him. He made the material clear and fun to learn.
Elfessi is smart and loves his statistics. He comes to class on-time everyday and launches right into the material. I liked how emphatic and direct he is as a teacher, but if you have thin skin and are easily frightened, you might want to look at some other professors. Great guy, though.
You cant understand a word he says and if you do not understand what he is teaching he will leave you behind in the dust.
After reading positive information on this site, I chose to take Elfessi. Worst mistake of my life. Although the information was pretty understandable, if you didn't get it or had a look of confusion on your face, he was not helpful at all. He didn't care to help students who were struggling and was overall a complete jerk.
Definitely a great teacher, I would recommend him for anyone not good at math or just wants an interesting teacher. He also offers efficient help if you need it. I would take him again in another math class for sure.
He is by far the best professor I had this semester. He is a passionate teacher, and he wakes you up, so if you have to have a 7:45 class, take one with him! He is super clear and as long as you attend, there is no reason anyone would get a bad grade. I loved the guy!
Elfessi is so funny and keeps your attention during class. The homework isn't manditory. There are little quizes 1 week before the test to prepare you for the test. Just study for tests becasue they are alittle hard.
elfessi truly makes a 7:45 class enjoyable and not so much of a drag. he gives lots of examples and explains exactly what you need to do to earn fill credit on the test. you'll hear him repeat himself a thousand times, but repetition can only help with math. I expect an A at the end of the term. just do the hw on time and attend class. easyasthat
Elfessi is pretty awesome. He's really funny and I thought he was a really good teacher. If you do your homework and study, the tests aren't very difficult.
He started the class saying how easy Stats is and if you came to class and studied you would be able to pass...but it was much more than that and many people dropped. If you're good at math take him he's a nice guy...he can be a little intimidating though!
Super awesome! Makes class exciting and loves what he does. Go to class do the homework and it's an easy A.
If you go to class and do your homework, you should be pretty good. The problem is your grade is only determined by 4 10 point quizzes and 4 100 point tests. Make sure you understand each HW problem because that's what'll be on the tests and quizzes. Elfessi is super funny. LOVE HIM!
Awesome class! GO to class and do the homework and you will be fine. Just make sure you do good on the quizzes and tests before you have 4 of each of them and then your final. Funny guy, sounds like Dracula kind of. Don't use your phone in class, he will catch you.
Grade is only based on four 100 point tests and 4 ten point quizzes. NEED to study to do well. All word problems. He is intimidating and likes to yell/talk loudly A LOT.
Class is extremely hard with him unless you are exceptionally smart. I took it with him, failed. My roommate took it with him, failed. We both took it again with two other professors and she got a B, while I got a AB. If you looking for a VERY CHALLENGING class, well you found the right one.
I took Statistics in High school and received a good grade. However for college, this was my most stressful class. 4 tests, 4 quizes, and a final makes your grade. If you test well, plan on attending every class, and are good at statistics take this class. If you have questions he does not know how to answer them.
He was always super excited to teach class. He will ask the class questions and loves participation which kept me awake and on my toes. He is very repetitive! This is fantastic because he always is correlating the old material to the new material. The quizzes are super easy, but don't take your time on the tests. They are long!!!
I am convinced that this man is the only person on Earth who can actually make statistics interesting. If you go to class and do the homework (4-5 problems a night, nothing like other professors) then you will be fine. He explains things multiple times and raises his voice for emphasis, but I don't find it intimidating. Definite recommend.
Interesting guy, but unwilling to help or compromise. His way or the highway. "I've been teaching for 22 years, I will not change" stubborn, and very very picky. I don't recommend him.
His class is not "hard" but your grade is only based on 4 test, 4 quizes, and a final. He does not give you enough time on any of these. If you are like me and take time on your tests this makes the class hard. If you do bad on one test then your sunk like me. If you are a slow test taker dont take him even.
Attendance not mandatory but I HIGHLY recommend going to class every day. 4 tests, 4 quizzes and a comprehensive final exam. homework is not mandatory but do it. Assigns homework not in the back of the book and doesn't go over answers so you don't know if you did it right.
It is nice that he doesn't make you memorize equations. He is not hard to understand but his grammar takes a little getting used to. He can be kind of a downer, which makes doing well a little more personally motivated. Notes are scattered all over the board. Overall good teacher, just a few things to get used to...
I really enjoyed taking stats with Professor Elfessi. I am not a math person and this was my 2nd time taking the class, but he made it extremely bare-able. He was entertaining to listen to and made class interesting. He was straightforward with his expectations and was more than willing to help outside of class. 4 quizzes, 4 tests and a final.
Super funny, cool, and smart professor. Really intense and doesn't like when you make "easy mistakes".
I took MTH 145 as a Freshmen, and now I am a Senior. This course is still the hardest course I've took. I am the type of student who likes clarification, and help from my professor. If you are like me, I would high recommend staying away from this professor.
This man is a character. One of the worst teachers I have ever had but I love him. Very unique. He gets yelled at by neighboring teachers for spontaneously shouting in his class. He has also never seen the color red before.... don't piss him off
LOVED HIM!I had him for stats then took him again for algebra. He does A LOT of example problems on the board then has similar problems on his tests and quizzes. He is always at his office hours and always willing to help. He's very hyper and very entertaining. He will definitely make you smile and keep your attention in class! Favorite professor.
Awesome guy. Awesome teacher. Take his class.
Makes the Lectures seem easy and makes the content easy to follow. Gives you a Test that is too long, and completely picks apart your answers. SUPER tough grader. wont let you make any little mistakes and when you do you lose almost half the points! I would avoid if possible.
He doesn't believe in partial credit, at all. The toughest grader I have ever had in my college or high school career. Doesn't help in office hours (might as well just not go). LOOK AT OTHER PROFESSORS BEFORE YOU TAKE ELFESSI! Seriously, don't take him unless you have to. Good guy, witty and funny, but you either get a 100% or bomb his class.
If you hate math and stats I recommend that you STAY AWAY from this man. Every time I would walk into the room that he was teaching in I was immediately in a bad mood. He yells and pounds the board with his hand and head very loudly to get his point across and it is just so annoying. Do yourself a favor and find a different professor.
His lectures are very easy to understand but once he gives exams he likes to trick students into thinking more. Not too bad. Very loud. Overall, you have to study a lot to pass the class
His tests are confusing. Gives book homework which is not required, but don't expect help if you don't do it. Sometimes moves a little too quickly in class. I wouldn't recommend taking him if you haven't had any Stats in the past.
Such a confusing guy. he's never really clear on his expectations and only clarifies after everyone does the assignment and missed something. Also, if he assigns a presentation be prepared to be interrupted. Not even during a topic transition, like in the middle of a sentence. I expected this to be a tough class, but nothing like this.
This professor does not make students feel comfortable coming to him with questions, He assigns homework every night but not for credit, so the only grades are tests and quizzes and one SPSS project. He does not update grades until the end of the semester, so good luck knowing how you're doing!
He is definitely a different teacher. He teaches very loudly and is very theatrical in the way he explains things. Has a heavy accent, but overall, I felt he did a great job explaining the material, there were no surprises on the test, class flew by, and homework was assigned but not required or collected. Minimal amount of work/studying for an A.
he says the material is easy and gets mad when students don't understand a concept. his tests are not fair because he puts stuff in the questions that aren't needed. he did not treat this as an entry level course. very difficult to understand what he's explaining.
I never expected to have a professor that has so much of an ego that they blame the book every time he's proven wrong. I was screamed at for asking questions to the point where I stopped asking because I couldn't be screamed at again without crying. I worked extremely hard and the exams were still beyond difficult. Doesn't know english either.
Very intimidating guy, often yells and pounds on the board during lectures. Was not helpful at all. Often yells at students when they don't understand the material and is not approachable at all. Only opportunities for points are quizzes, exams, and a very time consuming project that is only worth few points. Would not recommend him.
Ask a question in class? He will yell and make you feel stupid. Not helpful at all. Took this class again with a diff professor that would actually answer my questions and got a B+
He really dumbed down the material and made it easy to understand. Do your homework and pay attention in class, and you will do fine.
I dreaded going to Elfessi's class because he would yell at students if we didn't understand, which was a daily occurrence. I actually had so much anxiety about this professor that I wasn't doing well on quizzes or exams. I recommend avoiding taking him as much as possible, because I, as well as half of my class have to retake statistics now.
I was not a big fan of math prior to taking Stats but was never bad at it. After having this class I absolutely abhorred math. I considered skipping nearly every day but decided I couldn't afford to. If the class didn't understand what he was teaching or did an example wrong he would yell and on occasion throw a marker or eraser.
If you don't do the homework, you won't do well. You're not graded on many things, just tests and one project. He was kind of hard to understand, but explained things well.
Dr. Elfessi can speak very loudly at times, which made me a little glad that I was sitting toward the back. There are 3 tests and a final, most of which are take-home where you do a few SPSS problems outside of class and the rest of it is in-class. Your grade also consists of two projects and two sets of homework assignments that are turned in.
Abdulaziz Elfessi was the most difficult professor I've ever had. He yells loudly, especially if you ask questions and/or don't understand something he's teaching. If you don't ALL of the homework you will fail the tests and quizzes, and if you go in for office hours, then you can expect to be demeaned and put down for trying to get help. Terrible.
It is a relatively easy class, but he is horrible at explaining concepts in his lecture videos he posts. I can't even explain how he teaches because it doesn't make any sense to me. I have had one of my friends teach me most of the class. He also gives a decent amount of homework but it doesn't get graded, you just need to know the info for tests.
This was tough to rate based on online class. All of Elfessi lectures this semester were just pre-recorded videos which if you suck at math like myself, itsnt the best way to learn the topic. His accent make its hard to understand the videos which doesn't make it easier. He was always available for office hours to help clear up question.
I really liked Dr. Elfessi. If you go to class, do the homework, and understand the homework, you'll pass. He is a bit animated during his lectures, but it's all in good fun. There are only a few tests and quizzes and those are the only things that make up your grade. If you do well on those you'll be fine.
I really liked Professor Elfessi, he explains everything really well and goes through multiple examples. His lectures are loud and fun, he makes learning stats easy. His tests and quizzes aren't hard if you study the material, but that's all that makes up your grade. Homework is optional unless you need more practice.
He is a super animated teacher & made classes go quickly, but I had trouble learning set techniques from him & I found the tests & quizzes very difficult.
Absolutely loved stats 145 with Professor Elfessi. Lectures were quick and helpful and everything on the test was heavily taught in class. Older style of teaching but I enjoyed it. 100% would take again.
