Clear, entertaining, grades fairly. Tends to translate math language into plain English, which makes him far easier to understand then most math professors. He also happens to be quick at mental arithmatic, and can do about anything without a calculator

nice teacher, but a little tough
Very clear, makes math fun.
He is a nice teacher. If you study, you can get good grade.
fantastic....and a great teacher too!

the homework everyday was rought but it did help, it's how I managed to pass. He's a good teacher and great guy but I just had a hard time with some stuff that I missed in 111
Very good teacher. Makes sure you understand the material, and he does grade fair. Over-all you should try to take a math class with Gage, he is a good prof.
Best math instructor at Skagit. I had him for Math 99, 111, and 112. He is very clear, fair, and willing to help. If you can take him, I strongly recommend it. I am now a Math major at Western, and I have yet to have a Prof. as good as Able. I wish he taught up there. If you do go to Western the closses to his teaching style is Armirian.
really good teacher he will explain the content really well so anyone can understand it he seems to care how the student is and not just there because he has to be
AWESOME TEACHER - I'm not a math person but he taught so well that I got A's - plus he's not bad to look at!!

He's the man.
It is better for international students not take his class. Also, his grading is so strict.
Teaches straight from the textbook. Does not give various strategies for tackling problems - which makes his class difficult. I can't understand why he won the Teacher of the Year Award at Skagit. Frankly, I think too many female students are caught up in his looks and not his ability to teach.
I took him a few years back for math 99, 111, 112. This man made me want to become a math major. I am now in my last quarter of a B.S. in Applied Mathematics, and by far I would say he was the best math teacher I have ever had. And in my 3 years of doing nothing but math at WWU, I have had a lot. I am glad to hear he won teacher of the year award!
took abel for 98, 99 and 112 would have taken him for 124 but he didn't teach it that quarter. He is clear with what you should know and will help you anytime you need it. One of the best teachers I have had. If you show up and listen to his help (do your homework) you will get a good grade. I wish he taught my econ courses!
Great professor! I use to struggle with math and after taking his classes I wanted to become a math major (but I didn't). He takes you step by step on problems but if you miss class you will be confused on how to do problems. He is always there for help!
Best prof ever! I had him for pre-cal and statistics (I got A's in both which says a lot). He's funny, a fair grader, doesn't waste time with stuff you don't need to know, and definitely knows his stuff.
Awesome teacher. Sweet style! Makes my day, everyday.
He is the best professor that I have ever had.
Although I am a international student, I can understand what he was teaching. Also, easy A for me. I didn't even study before exams.
I've had him for the standard calculus series (1-3) and he's fantastic. His exams are hard, but that's mostly due to the fact that calculus is REALLY hard. He's always available for help, and never made me feel stupid for asking questions. Don't take calculus from anyone else!!
He responds like crazy to every email and I can tell that he just really, really wants me to succeed. He's excellent.
I'm taking his online math class. I was having trouble with some things and was very frustrated so I emailed him. Within THREE minutes he had answered my question in an understable and slightly amusing way, so I understood it perfectly and knew what I was doing wrong!!! I'm definitely going to try to get Abel for an in-class math class!!!
I took his class online. I've always struggled with math. But he was quick to answer my questions. Like some of the others said, he answers emails right away. Yes, the exams were hard, but I got an A in a class I didn't think I'd even pass! I wish I could have Abel for Math 98 next quarter. I'm taking him whenever possible the rest of my time here!
Very helpful & unusually good at explaining things! In lectures he is very clear & makes sure not to miss anything that is important for understanding. Answers questions very well & is really nice about it. In the later chapters we moved away from using the textbook explanations, but we still had homework. I understand the material better than norm!
Seriously the best math teacher I have ever had. If you struggle with math at all you need to take this teacher! Super helpful, and very nice. I have taken 4 math teachers at Skagit and he is by far the best.
Great professor. Understanding and easy to deal with. Gives good information during the lecture and works really hard to do activities which deepen knowledge.
An exceptional professor! He is very clear and precise during his lectures and puts interest and enthusiasm into math. He grades fairly, and always saves time for review before exams.
Super helpful, quick to respond to emails even though it was summer quarter. Genuinely helpful and caring. You can tell he really wants you to succeed. I had an 8th grade education and had never done algebra. I passed with a B, and got a hillarious email from him telling me he was proud of me, even though we had never met.
Great the teacher! He is by far the best math teacher I have ever had. He makes learning stats interesting, he is really funny and he is enthusiastic about what he teaches! Take a class with him if you get the chance!
He is a very strict grader as mentioned previously and there is a lot of lecture straight from the book. But something worked - I'm horrible at math and passed with a B. He does genuinely want you to do well. I think he's a great teacher and if more math was required for my degree, I would want him as a teacher.
This is the best math teacher at SVC! He is able to explain everything very well and makes math fun. I really like how he teaches and am looking forward to more math classes with him!
Abel is one of my favorite professor of all time. I enjoyed every single class with him. Very helpful!! Very inspiring!
Best teacher in Skagit Valley College , He will make you do math and covers the main points out the book. Test you on what he had taught. He does not brings trick on you only Extra Credit questions lol
Abel is the best! If you need a math class, he is my top suggestion.
Very helpful Professor. Mr. Gage made learning math fun! I was so frustrated before with math, now I have the confidence to keep learning more...
I took Precalc 2 online using mymathlab with Gage. He always responded quickly and found a solution to any problem I was having. The final exam was difficult but I was used to taking them at home with my book and previous homework assignments in front of me. Great teacher!
I had Abel for math 148 and 142. His lectures were thorough and directly applicable to the homework, quizzes, and exams--learning math at SVC is relaxed and enjoyable; I transferred to WWU where the pace is quicker (you walk out of class wo really understanding the material in 50 minutes). He is extremely helpful and a genuinely great professor.
Abel Gage is not only one of the cutest professors you will ever take at Skagit Valley College but he is also one of the BEST. I am not good at math at all, but having him as a teacher really did help me get an A in Statistics. He is very helpful, there for you, and explains concepts very well. He has a bold sense so style so dont ever miss class !
Abel is SUPER. He's really good at seeing individuals in a crowd and talking to you, but also shows favoritism or picks on anyone. He's fun (goofy sometimes, with a unique fashion sense), down-to-earth, very clear and helpful. The first math class that didn't make me cry, and that I actually enjoyed. Would 100% take again and keep in contact with.
Very helpful teacher, easy to learn from. Homework is a very reasonable length, and responds to emails quickly. Finds a way to somehow make learning statistics fun.
I had Gage for Math in Society my last quarter before graduation, and I am NOT a math person. But Gage made it all fairly easy to understand, and he was also really funny so classes were never boring or dry. I wish I'd had him for all my math classes because I might've understood math better! Great teacher! He makes number exciting!
I took Stats with Abel and it was pretty hard. We had homework every day. His jokes are pretty cheesy and he's kinda nerdy but he didn't make anyone feel stupid for dumb questions. He's super nice and he explains everything really clear.
Abel is the best! As a teacher, he is superb, clearly explaining requirements for tests, complex equations. His illustrations, lectures, and use of text are unparalleled. He also has a sweet sense of style! Unlike every other Math teacher at Skagit, he is the only one I haven't heard any complaints about.
Abel is the best math teacher I've ever had, and I mean it. Sure, I didn't get an A but I fully understood what I was doing and that is a rarity. He's funny, caring, and makes sure you understand. He's a dork, but it's entertaining. Definitely take him whenever you have the chance.
If you don't like math, take this class!! Abel is fun, explains the concepts well and throughly answers questions. His tests are clear, he offers extra credit, and he always gives great feedback. If you don't understand a topic, office hours are your best bet. Take this class if you want to really understand statistics, not just get a good grade...
Learned statistics, had a lot of fun doing it, and aced most of the tests a long the way. Some people will struggle just because it's a difficult subject, but it really doesn't get much better than taking statistics from Abel Gage.
I hate math, and this statistics class was one of the most enjoyable classes I have ever taken. Abel gives excellent feedback and gives you extra help if you need it.
Abel gage really helped me through a difficult subject and he was very patient and always willing to help you one on one. He was very funny and if you were bad at math like me, hes the perfect teacher to make sure you have the basic down and the tools to succeed in the future.
Amazing statistics teacher. Always more than willing to talk with students and answer questions. Quick to grade homework/tests. You can tell he really cares about what he's teaching and wants students to have a great math experience.
I was so glad that I have taken his class. Abel is very interactive for you to learn statistics. He made us well prepared for the upcoming tests and exams. Extra credit opportunities are provided, also interesting group work. Fair among of homework, with massive grading factor.
Abel Gage is the absolute best math teacher I've ever had. Attendance is optional, but then you miss his awesome, thorough lectures. He's always available outside of class & is extremely approachable, kindhearted, & nonjudgmental. He's transparent about test material. The material is hard, but with Abel Gage, you can learn & master anything at all.
One of the best math teachers I have had. Wish I could have him for all of my math classes at Skagit. Makes learning math simple and not too hard. Explains things well and has students do a lot of practice in class while he goes around and helps students as they solve the problems. Wants all students to do well and pass & shows in how he grades.
Abel Gage is the best math teacher I have ever had in my entire life. He's very knowledgeable and has the knack for teaching. I would go out of my way to take math with this teacher again.
Abel is the best math teacher I have had, he truly cares about his students and will ensure that everyone is understanding the material. He only tests on material he has covered so there will be no surprises come exam time. He made Differential Equations bearable, which is a feat if you have taken this course.
Abel is an awesome teacher! Classes are not too boring and quite a few small group practice sessions in class. He is also very helpful and will explain problems until you understand them as well as office hours are great if you ever need him. Overall very helpful and friendly, just be warned that tests are weighted pretty heavily.
Abel was great, I wish I took all my math classes with him. He made sure that you understand the material which is impressive in Differential Equations. He was always available outside class time for questions and was really great at explaining the concepts. Doesn't require you to buy a new book which is nice. Take his courses.
He is, by far, my favorite professor at Skagit Valley College. If you get the chance, I HIGHLY recommend taking a math class with Abel Gage!
Prof. Gage is solid. He doesn't assign much homework- maybe not even enough! Not very difficult problems either. He always keeps it interesting with mini in-class activities and things. Only thing I didn't like is that he collects homework pretty much daily and usually only gives you one day to complete it. Other than that he's great.
Out of the three math profs I've had, Abel was by far the best. He always made sure we understood the content before moving on, and the homework was very reasonable. Although assignments are due often, they never took more than an hour or two. He also doesn't use My Math Lab, which was a big plus. If you struggle with math, I highly recommend Abel.
Abel is a very good teacher, there are no weekly zoom calls just recorded lectures. the homework can be hard if you don't watch the lectures. he meets in zoom multiple times to go over practice/test questions. he is extremely helpful and is always up to meeting you and giving help. i would 100% recommend you take this calls if you need help.
Focused on helping students improve their skills and when grading assignments always gives great feedback. The course was well structured and enjoyable bc this dude has coolguysyndrome, would 10/10 take course again.
Professor Gage is an amazing professor! He post videos for each chapter that explain the sections so much easier than the book explains them, so make sure to watch every video. He gives amazing feedback, and answers any questions you may have. The weekly Stat Chat zoom call is really informative. He is super responsive and willing to help you.
Abel is a great teacher, he loves to teach. When you do well he lets you know it. He stays very engaged. The classes at the college were converted to online format because of covid. He expressed he preferred the in person format, but still I learned more from his lectures than I did from the book. The book was informative, but not the greatest.
Professor Gage inspired me to pursue a hobby in statistics. His approach to teaching helps you grow a deep understand of the material and its practical applications. I feared statistics, but I can gladly say that his stats class was one of the best classes I've taken thus far. Workload is reasonable, tests are in-depth but not unfair. Great prof.
Took his class online- rarely had to use the textbook because of how helpful and concise his video lectures were. They normally didn't exceed fifteen minutes; whenever I had a question I would just skim through the most recent lecture to find my answer. Very friendly.
Abel is an amazing professor. its clear he cares about all his students and wants them to succeed. I came into this class dubbing myself as really bad at math, but thanks to his office hours and by-request zoom meetings, I was able to get a better grade than expected. Would definitely recommend.
Abel is one of my favorite teachers/professors ever! He is very kind, funny, and inspirational, and he gives clear answers. I am taking him for the sequence of calculus classes (I through IV). He is an amazing teacher and is easy to talk to in and out of class. He is very personable and will stretch your brain :).
Abel Gage is a great math instructor. I had him for an online Stats class and his lectures were clear and the homework and tests were manageable. I wish I had him in person. No expensive mymathlab, he uses a textbook that can be bought/rented pretty inexpensively. Highly recommend Gage for math!
I took his online Stats, Summer 22. He was incredibly thorough with his expectations, lectures and homework. The projects, assignments and tests were all very doable and manageable even with a busy lifestyle. He is one of the best professors I have ever had, and you can tell he truly cares about his passion for teaching and his students succeeding.
I enjoyed the class, it was online so it was taught with videos and a textbook. He made at least one video every week rather than just finding someone else's youtube video, which I respect. He was responsive when help was needed. After having the other professor for calculus 1, I'll be going back to Abel Gage for Calculus 2.
Really nice, one on one help from him was great
While his intentions were good, I feel this instructor could have spent more time going over material. Homework is given after every class which is to be expected but I feel like the amount of homework given was excessive as I spent 2 hours a night just working on assignments for this particular class.
Abel was great, the textbook is easy to get for free, his lectures are detailed enough to where you don't really have to read the textbook at all. He always put great care into being welcoming and friendly. You will have to spend quite a bit of time on homework, about 2 hours a night for this class, I think that's just kind of the nature of calc.
Mr. Gage is good, but gives lots of homework. Very time consuming!
One of the best professors at Skagit
Abel is awesome! His lectures are amazing, and he really cares about his students. I really enjoyed his class overall. One-on-one help with him was helpful, and he was always willing to help me. He will push you to your limits, but is always willing to help, and I really appreciate that. Great to know and work with this guy!
Abel was a fantastic professor. So great in fact that i took all of Calc 1 through 4 from him. He gives great, detailed lectures that were still at a pace to where you could write everything down and make good notes. I spent about 2 hours a day or so doing the homework, but I would say doing more work will be to your benefit in understanding Calc.
He was very easy to get ahold of and was always willing to help out. We also didn't have crazy long tests.
Professor Abel is fantastic! He explains everything so clearly and makes learning enjoyable. He's cool, approachable, and amazing at what he does. I highly recommend taking his classes—I learned so much!
Amazing teacher. Responsive to questions and clearly explains the solution. Always willing to help. If you turn in your homework early, he will grade it early so you can fix any mistakes and receive full credit. Statistics class is hard but exactly what I was expecting from a college-level math class. His outstanding teaching made class easy.
He's very nice and I found the class easy. He explained everything very well and was easily accessible outside of class
Abel gage is hands down the best teacher ive had. He is super flexible and understanding, there is much work overload but definitely manageable. I highly recommend to anyone needing to take stats!
Best mathematics instructor I have ever got. Took his class from Cal I to Cal III.
very clear syllabus.
Abel is one of the best math teachers I've ever had! His instruction/lectures are easy to follow and very helpful. Homework assignments are reasonable and not too difficult. Attendance is not required but I would recommend going to each class because the instruction is actually useful. I totally recommend this class.
