She is a good professor as in she teaches well, but the content is very quick and hard to understand easily. You really have to do a lot of studying on your own and the tests are hard.
She's a nice professor, as in, she is helpful if you have questions. However, content load feels heavy and you have to go through it really quickly. You do need to study after to actually understand the content to the fullest extent. Exams are in-person.
Dr. Johnson is extremely nice, and her lectures helped me for the test. However, the content moves pretty fast, so you would have to study in advance for it. Overall, not bad, just make sure you are keeping up with content.
She seems nice and like she cares, but this class is based too heavily on group work. There's group exams, group projects, and group worksheets every class. You have to do a lot of studying outside of the class to really grasp what's going on because her lectures go really quickly, and she pauses frequently to make you work with your group.
An out-of-touch HR lady reads a slide show. Jokes aside, she is a very kind person. However, I would steer clear when looking at her class objectively. Most of my learning came from external sources and self-research. She mostly relies on a very poor online textbook with daily homework. The work isn't hard, but it is all mindless and tedious.
This professor was very sweet but not super helpful when it came to understanding the material. The tests and class were unnecessarily hard for an intro bio course. Tests were only 18 questions. We also had many group projects that were usually very confusing. For homework, we had daily quizzes but they were super easy and quick to complete.
ABORTT MISSION IMMEDIATELY! Class requires an unreasonable amount of external resources to understand information. Lectures are very hard to follow. You can tell the professor knows what she's talking about but does a very poor job of making it digestible for new learners. Tests are 18 questions so you don't have much room to miss a question.
Her lectures are nothing like the tests. Her tests are super hard. Do not take. Take another professor. You have to teach yourself out of class. She uses codon and sometimes reuses questions but the reused questions have a completely different correct answer then the one from codon. Do not take. Lots of group work as well.
The class and tests are not that hard as long as you keep up with the lectures and homework. The class does have ALOT of group work so that's one thing to keep in mind. her test are very similar to the practice test she gives so if you do those before the test you should do fairly well. She also requires you to buy a ~30$ online program.
I personally had a great experience in this bio class. I looked up this professor's name out of curiosity expecting to see a result completely opposite of what I found. Dr. Johnson knows what she's talking about and does a great job explaining and making sure the class understands. I would recommend 100000%!
Take the class with literally anyone else, unnecessarily difficult and super condescending. She does know what she's teaching but she does not actually do a good job at teaching it. I had to teach myself essentially the entire class, made us use an online platform that really didn't help at all and the amount of group work was ridiculous. AVOID.
Anyone who says she doesn't teach or this isn't a good class clearly doesn't understand college class expectations. She's an amazing professor and is clearly very knowledgeable. She's very helpful and fair if you have any situations outside of class or you need extra help. 10/10 would take again.
Workload is light. Study Codon AND her powerpoints for the tests. She's always willing to answer any questions you have. Don't go in expectating that this class is "baby bio" - its not THAT easy. Lots of group work. You take your individual test and then the group test (same test). Tests are 18 questions long and she drops the lowest at the end.
Lots of people complain but this was a pretty normal class. $30 online program, not my fav thing but it was well organized. Lectures and slides are kind of hard to follow. LOTS OF GROUP WORK. she will answer questions and be quick to respond to email. pre class quizzes+readings (easy), group and individual tests, its not that bad.
It is true the tests are on the harder side, but it's not impossible. I didn't like how we had to buy this $30 learning program called Codon, but it did teach me and help keep everything organized. She's a really nice and smart lady, and is very passionate about biology. Also she does drop assignments!! :)
This class started as relatively hard because the tests are only 18 questions, meaning 2 wrong is a B. I think people must've complained because her tests got easier and perfectly reflected the study material, reusing lots of questions. The lectures are boring and there is a lot of group work, including group tests, so hope you have a good group.
I would not recommend this professor. A TON of group work and group projects. 5 tests with 18 questions each. Also online program requires (Codon) that costs $30. Before each class, a pre-quiz had to be taken on codon, a group work sheet is done in each class so attendance is mandatory.
Tests are not super hard but need to do a good amount of studying. Pre-class quizzes on codon before every lecture($30). A LOT of group projects and group assignments every single day. Very lenient on grading projects and assignments and is helpful if you approach her. as long as you do ur work, getting an A isnt really that hard
She's nice and seems really into the subject, but would sometimes rush through a topic to fit it into the class period. She does take notice of attendance even though it's a lecture. The class topics itself wasn't very difficult, but the study guides she would make, do not help! Take the practice test multiple times and u are good.
She gives really difficult tests and the group worksheets never have anything to do with what we are actually tested on. She is either really nice or really rude, depends on the day. Thinks she is teaching us life skills by giving group work, but it is just unnecessary. tests are difficult and you need to pay for the website the class is used on.
Very group work heavy. Group worksheet every single day, group projects every unit, group test portion on each test. Everything is based off of Codon Learning. Her class is pretty easy if you just show up and do the work, but sometimes the tests can be a little hard. Tests are only 18 questions, which doesn't leave much room for error.
Awesome teacher! Tests were not hard if you paid attention but were only 18 questions which meant there wasn't much room for error. Super group heavy, probably to compensate for number of students. Uses codon learning for everything, which I loved. This was her first year teaching and she had a lot of students, so expect her to improve.
Dr. Johnson was a solid college professor. Her class was really straight forward and she really shows a love for biology! She's really understanding and is very passionate about her teaching! I never liked biology back in high school and dreaded doing it in college, but she really made me enjoy it. I believe I will even come out with an A!
Everything is straight from Codon. We have pre-class reading and quizzes every class. EVERYTHING is done in groups. even the tests have a group portion. It was difficult to follow along in class and know exactly what we should be taking away. The slidesdont have much more than pics so you have to listen a lot. can be led by emotions. dont recommend
Incredibly manageable class if you just do the codon assignments + study. Tests are 18 questions so not much room for error but they're straightforward. Dr.Johnson teaches off powerpoint so the lectures aren't that engaging but because of the group work element, class can be fun. She can be sassy but if you can get past that it's an easy A.
Reading a lot of negative reviews on here, which surprised me. She loves the subject and wants to engage her students. Lots of online assignments, but none of them are time-consuming. Also group work and projects, but nothing hard. She grades projects super easily. Pay attention in class and do the online work, and you'll be fine :)
This was her first year teaching a lecture, so I give credit there. Class was easy if you put in the work. Your grade is pretty much based on 5 tests, but one is dropped which is nice. Most of her lectures don't always pertain to the exam. Most annoying thing is the heaviness on groupwork, so if you get a bad group, good luck with the projects.
I personally really liked Dr. Johnson. It was her first year teaching a lecture, but she wants you to succeed, and she was decently lenient with things. She does assign a lot of group work in a group that you are randomly put in, with group worksheets as attendance and projects. exam content can be found on Codon that is assigned, but go to class
Fall 2024 is her first time teaching but she did a fantastic job. Class is mostly group work with a worksheet along with the lecture every day of class. Easy HW due for each class. Exams are split between individual and group exams. 5 group projects (will decrease). I could easily see her rating going to a 5 after she improves upon this semester.
Dr. Johnson is caring and definitely knows biology. Lots of group work in groups assigned for the whole semester, and the tests are only 18 questions, but she drops the lowest one. She is accessible to ask questions, but the content can be confusing. Make sure to use Codon to study; these practice questions are most like her test.
Do not take her, unless you want to be struggling throughout the entire semester. She does everything in groups and on codon which is honestly so annoying expecially if not everyone in your group understands the topic. She did not even teach us she would SPEED through her slides then we immediatley go into groups. seriously just avoid her
Good things - very open to office hours which I attended roughly 20 hours of throughout this course, also very sweet professor who was easy to talk to during them and enjoyable Bad things - her tests are hard and if you are not prepared for them you will fail, you must study slides which is a lot to know, also teaches a lot about stuff not on tests
Dr. Johnson was the best! Her class consisted of group assignments, pre-class work on codon, and lectures. We had 5 exams throughout the semester and no final/midterm. No textbook-- all assignments were through codon, though sometimes the work there was more tedious than helpful. She wants her students to succeeded, I would take her for Bio1103.
pretty good teacher. its important that you have a good group though because they can make or break your grade.
I think she believes everyone in her class are bio majors. No textbook, everything on codon. Preclass quizzes are easy but annoying. He lectures about stuff that have nothing to do with anything. 5 tests and tons of group work as well as out of class projects that don't teach you anything. Her tests were eh if you study a ton.
SO MANY groups projects and there is a group worksheet each class which is how she takes attendance. Attendance isn't "mandatory" but if you want a good grade in the group work section, then come to class. I didn't learn much from the lectures and just watched YouTube videos and did the online practice. So do that and you will be fine.
Make sure you have a good group and everybody is doing their part. Personally I thought it was kind of strange how everything is group based with daily group worksheets, projects, and even tests but according to her this will help prepare us for the workplace. Make sure you don't get overruled on the group tests if you know you're right.
BIOL 1103 isn't very difficult, and Dr. Johnson teaches it adequately. While the Codon work and group projects can feel like busy work, the workload is manageable if you stay on top of it. Codon isn't very engaging, but if you review and understand the material before the tests (which are multiple choice with one drop) you will do fine.
Sooooo much group work, tests are easy but even missing a few questions leads to a bad grade. Lectures were fine but hard to pay attention. Getting a good group is everything.
I thought Dr. Johnson was a great professor, you can tell she is very passionate about biology and I always was interested in the lectures. You are put into groups so make sure to stay on top of your hw assignments, but overall I did really well in the class and felt that it was very easy. Do your work and practice codon and the tests are fine
She was a very knowledgeable professor and does care about her students. Biology is a hard class in general so it will require work. She is very heavy on group work, which can either be very good or bad for you depending on your group. You will want to show up to class because it will help your grade a lot. Her test were all multiple choice.
For a first-year teacher, she did amazing! However, a lot of your grade is group work, so if you get stuck with a bad group, then you might be a little screwed. But, she cared about her students, was very efficient with grading, and made it very easy to succeed in the class. I would definitely take her again!
This class was a bit of a hot mess. She's passionate about the subject, but for a class specifically created for non-bio majors, there was way too high a threshold for participation and group work. There was a group project in every unit, and group worksheets in every class. Nothing is too difficult, but it's just too much.
Daily codon assignments/videos, and then she'd read off a powerpoint and instruct you on a group worksheet...every class. She would further explain some concepts but not a lot. This was her first year, and she wasn't bad for a new teacher. All exams were 18 questions, once taken alone and once in a group (drops lowest individual score). No final.
If you study and work hard you will be fine, however there is way too much group work. She also speaks through the lectures and doesn't really teach. I taught myself the material so I was fine. If you read through the slideshows look at the codon practice test and study paths, you should be fine. She also drops your lowest grade in each section.
Dr. Johnson is an engaging lecturer and passionate about the content. The Codon practice problems prepare you well for the individual exams. But, the ENTIRE class is group work, so your experience (and grade) in the course will depend on your group. Fall '24 was her first semester ever teaching so she will probably improve more in the future.
Dr. Johnson was nice and cared about her students and improving her class. The class was VERY group heavy (group projects, worksheets, and tests). A lot of the work is done on Codon (which costs money) and she drops the lowest grade for every section. Actual coursework is not that hard though. Besides her corny jokes, it's a good class.
One of the easiest classes I've ever taken (easier than most high school courses). 5 individual and group exams, drops the lowest (we scored 100 on every group exam, they were the same as the individuals exams). Caring, sense of humor, good lecturer. Very passionate about her work. People complaining are lazy freshmen who aren't ready for college.
Mainly group work but assignments were never heavy, just pre-class quizzes, worksheet, and a unit project. Dr. Johnson was very passionate about her students and about the course content. Only thing is no test make-ups, so use your one free "pass" wisely. Tests are graded on a curve and if you study the guides on codon guaranteed to get an A.
This class had a lot of group work, which can make or break your experience. I liked the group work because it gave me people to talk to every class. The projects were a little weird and confusing however, my group never got anything under a 100. Her tests can be tricky but if you study the slides and do the practice questions they aren't too bad.
Dr. Johnson was a decent. There was pre quiz assignments before every class and every few weeks there would be a unit test. The tests were based on the topics that you learn and not specifically based on the online work, in class work, or the lectures, meaning you have to understand the concepts to pass. Pretty easy grader. HEAVY GROUP WORK.
She cared about what she taught, but it felt more like a 'save the world' biology and less of an introduction to biology. There were groups assignments every day and projects for every chapter. Tests were short and not really difficult as long as you paid attention and studied.
She's so sweet and SUPER passionate about Bio! She's a great lecturer, attendance is mandatory, SO MANY GROUP PROJECTS (so make sure you're happy with your group). Not too difficult of a class, the tests were individual AND group and she averages the two. She's really nice though and passionate about research :)
This class had so much group work that I could've screamed. Overall, she was a pretty easy grader, and you could get an easy A just from putting in effort. Tests were OK, but you need to listen to lectures and take notes. Also a group test which can be beneficial in raising your grade. Attendance is taken via group worksheets EVERY CLASS.
Dr. Johnson is so fun! I started the semester saying "I hate bio so much but I have to take it" and finished saying "It's actually kinda interesting." There's a lot of group work, but she gives you the opportunity to change groups if yours sucks. I lucked out and had an awesome group! The only reason I have a B is my lack of studying for tests.
Dr. Johnson is genuinely one of the most caring professors on campus. The complains people say on here have to do with the content itself, which is standardized for ALL 1103 professors. This class is easier than most high school classes and she is so sweet.
Literally all of the negative reviews have to do with the course itself, which is not designed by Dr. Johnson. She is incredibly caring and understanding, this class is by far one of the easiest classes I've taken in college.
Dr. Johnson is awesome! She is very approachable and really cares about her students. There is a lot of group work but easy to complete. You will do great if you keep up with Codon and the pre-class quizzes. Make sure to study for tests but all the tests are multiple-choice and super base-level knowledge is needed. I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Johnson!!
Took her for BIOL 1107. Very caring, and class content is not too difficult. Other than tests, every homework assignment is pretty much completion, so study and you will do well.
Dr. Johnson is AMAZING. Took AP bio senior and tbh didn't learn much (seniorities), but took her for 1107. Codon the website she uses is a game changer and her test are really easy if you know at least a decent amount of content. She has learning objectives so for test literally put it in chatgpt to give you practice tests and you will do great!!!!
I LOVE her class! She's so caring and knowledgable. Clear structure and expectations. Tests are easy if you pay attention and take notes. Lots of review. There is group work every single day but I came to love that aspect. Plus her pre-class playlists are great :)
Professor Johnson is such a caring professor. You can tell she loves her job and enjoys teaching her class. Her lectures are very helpful to learn the content. There is a good amount of work for the class and attendance is part of your grade, but come to class every day and do all your homework, and you will easily get an A in this class.
she explains the material in lectures really really well and makes sure we know what's going on in the class. there are lots of practice questions and group work that we do in class that really helps you understand the material. i loved her as a professor, she's the best I've had in any science dept at UGA.
I feel like she is a very caring professor but not the greatest at teaching, however she will answer any questions during office hours. Exams were pretty wordy but she did award a lot of extra points because of it. Codon is great for organization and it was the easiest class dashboard I've used. Would recommend it is a bit of work though
Her tests were always may more difficult than the material she taught in class. I would not take her again. I have been a straight A student my entire life and am struggling to keep a B in the class right now. She does office hours and wants her students to succeed, but her tests do not reflect her lectures.
honestly if you show up to this class, you're going to be perfectly fine. she puts you in groups of 3 that you'll be in all semester and you collab on worksheets and even half of the test you take with your group. johnson is a really good teacher and is very straight up with what you will need to know on the test.
Genuinely so easy, you won't find a more caring professor on campus
Professor Johnson was a great teacher, and she made the course easy. The class uses Codon, so it is a lot of busy work, and she also uses group worksheets for attendance, but honestly, her tests aren't bad at all. If you just study effectively, you should receive the grade you want.
I absolutely loved Dr. Johnson and this class. The way the class was structured made it so easy for me to learn the material and actually perform well on tests. Dr. Johnson is such a nice and great professor and was very giving when it came to curves on tests!
I would recommend Dr. Johnson to every student taking a bio class or just any class she teaches! Her class set up was great and I was able to learn the material instead of just memorizing it. The tests weren't difficult at all and she curved most of them.
Easiest Bio 1107 professor, there is a lot of homework, but it is structured well and helps a ton for understanding the material. Dr. Johnson is very nice and her tests are SUPER easy. She even adds points back to most of them. As long as you do the work and study you will do great, please take her!
I know she won't be teaching 1107 again but I would take her again in the future. She was kind, her slides made sense and Codon really did help. She really seems to care for students and is always welcoming during office hours. The tests are semi difficult but not too bad. She deserves a higher RMP than this.
Dr. Johnson is such a great professor! She teaches the material very clearly, and her slides are incredibly useful when studying for her exams, which she writes herself. Her office hours are accessible and very helpful, and I really believe she challenges students in such a good way without destroying their GPAs or their confidence in a subject.
she is still new to teaching, but i found her class pretty easy. just do the codon and review the study path and youll do fine. test were pretty straightforward and was heavily based on codon. you work in an assigned group (every 1103 class does) all semester, so pray you get good groupmates because theres a group test after the individual one.
This professor was very enthusiastic about the material and did a good job teaching it. Also, she used a lot of questions in the class to count, but they were just participation points. The program she used for teaching was very user-friendly. The only thing kind of negative I'd say is that she asks a lot of questions in class that are really easy.
She teaches class more as review rather than learning, as if students already know the material. The lectures are not helpful, you will end up teaching yourself most of the content. The content is not difficult, it is just poorley taught. Would not take again.
extremely high-intensity group work. poll questions or group worksheets require collaboration. there is group exam, immediately retake the same questions with group. group assignment each unit all codon questions were quite different from the actual exams, unclear wording in the answer choices. PPT didn't provide directly useful for the tests
Very easy class. Tests are short and simple. Lots of homework but its participation based. Big emphasis on group work with group exams, worksheets, and projects which is cool unless you get a unhelpful group member. Professor Johnson is a sweet teacher who cares about her class and content.
I loved Ms. Johnson's class. Her tests were reflective of what we learned. She uses Codon for homework, in class polling, and test studying. If you pass the Study Path in Codon, you will pass the test. Lots of lecture slides, but not too overwhelming. Lots of group work, which is nice; it breaks up the traditional lecture class style.
She teaches well, sometimes it can feel a bit rushed though. The tests can be slightly difficult. A good bit of review is required before tests at least.
I liked Dr. Johnson! Lectures could be rushed, but the class wasn't too hard. Do your codon hw and make a quizlet for tests and you'll be fine! Groups are assigned from day 1 and involve group project work and group tests (same as individual, only MCQs). In class participation assignments (polls, questions, worksheets). Drops 1 of 5 tests!
Knows her stuff but goes a little fast through her slides, easy class would def take again
She was very passionate about biology, but sometimes the material being taught didn't seem to make sense and was kind of random. She uses Codon, which I loved because it was a great study tool. Her tests are easy (only if you study the practice questions/review the notes); she made us take group tests, too. There's a group project &exam each unit.
Although I wasn't able to have personal interactions as BIOL 1103 is a huge lecture heavy course, her course was: 1. clear in expectation, 2. well-organized with incorporation of Codon Learning 3. group-work heavy. Her tests are mainly based on slides and codon. Her overall course material seems a bit disorganized but nothing too disturbing.
Class was very organized.
Dr. Johnson was great, she had us do Codon to learn and prepare for the test, she gave a lot of practice material on there as well. Her lectures were super engaging and you can tell she is very passionate about it. Every test we'd have an individual and then a group test. Overall she was a great professor and I couldn't recommend her more!
I love Professor Johnson! She was so caring and very willing to go out of her way to help. She does have mandatory attendance and uses Codon every day. Very short tests, but they are not hard if you complete the Codon study path before. Would def take again!
Dr. Johnson teaches lectures using powerpoints and codon. She is really caring and wants you to succeed. The class is pretty easy and you can do well by using codon's prep tools and practice exams.
Great Professor! I do not typically enjoy Biology, but she made the content clear and understandable. Codon heavy, group projects, and very straight forward of a class overall. Highly recommend!
The material itself isn't that hard, but tests get harder and more complicated. There are pre class homework's before every class do the readings (sometimes multiple and really long) or videos and they definitely help understand the class because she doesn't go into much depth during class. You'll have to self teach. She's super sweet!
Fairly easy as long as you do the pre class quizzes and study for the exams.
Professor Johnson is a very kind person. Her lectures are not super helpful, but going to class would help (and is mandatory). There are lots of group of projects, but they're not super difficult. There are group and individual tests for all 5 units. Tests aren't too difficult just use the codon practice tests and the learning objectives!
Coursework is simple and her explanations are usually clear. There are lots of groups projects but a group test worth about 10% of your test grade after every test evens it out. There is attendance work but a couple are dropped so it isn't too bad. Asks very basic questions during lectures but extremely nice and fun to talk to.
She is absolutely awful, very hard class for a required course. Exams are closed notes and very hard. If you can avoid her, do it.
Easiest A ever! 5 tests (20 multiple choice), but one gets dropped. You're assigned a group (4 ppl) and each test had a group test, but it was the same test you just take it together. 5 group "projects" but they're super easy. Uses codon for in class questions (not for accuracy) and test prep questions so I never studied extra. 1000% recommend her!
She's super chill and nice. It will seem like there's a lot of work in the codon thing but everything is really quick and easy. Attendance isn't "mandatory" but there are in class questions and group worksheets (all for completion) so it's not necessarily hard but you do have to show up. Lots of group work but I loved my group members (assigned).
Dr. Johnson is really sweet, but I didn't get much from her lectures so I had to teach myself the learning objectives. Group projects every unit, so better hope you get good groupmates. To do well on exams, don't just rely on Codon questions, you have to really understand the materials (but don't worry they aren't difficult)
She is a fine professor. The class itself isn't hard. There are 5 tests, but one gets dropped. The tests are pretty easy if you study her slides. The class is codon-based, which is a bit annoying. Attendance is not mandatory, but there is some in-class participation that you wont receive if you skip. Easy A though.
Very nice and respected, many grades are put in so if you can get away with like an average of an 85 in exam scores (1 of 5 get dropped), you are able to get an easy A in the class.
I LOVED her. The class was pretty easy. If you have a good group it makes the class more fun. She uses Codon which I found to be helpful. Her tests were not too hard. 20 questions multiple choice. Just do the codon and focus a little in class and you'll be good for sure.
Ms. Johnson is very nice. She genuinely wants her students to succeed and engage with the material. The course is very lecture heavy and she sometimes does go too fast with the material. There's also a lot of group projects which is unfortunate if you're in a bad group. However it isn't hard to do well in the class and your lowest exam is dropped.
Easy and caring professor! You don't even have to be serious to get a safety A. There is allot of makeup. The lecture medium. The condon system is so easy to handle though. Interesting content with easy grading policy.
Very straightforward class structure, beware of the group projects though. Same group for whole semester so pray you get lucky! Her lectures are great, lots of real-world examples tied into the content. Clearly very passionate about what she's teaching, and she cares about the students. Tests are all multiple choice and fairly easy.
imo she's not a great instructor at all. you can't really learn anything from her lectures. that being said the materials aren't hard so if you self-study you'll do well. no busy work except for group projects at the end of every unit. i only took bio once in my freshman year in high school and made a high A here, so take that as you will :)
