Took night class. She is clear on the material and rarely let class out early. your homework is on My Mathlab website and due on the day of the test. The access code for MathLab comes with the book. Good test reviews and your notes from lecture really help. She uses blackboard too for extra handouts.
Good teacher. Wants you to pass and goes out of her way to do anything she can to get you there..
She explains the material very well. She will go over it until you fully understand it. Her test reivews are very helpful. Overall a great calc teacher.
She is one of the best math teachers I've ever had. She explains material very well. She makes math seem so easy. Don't be fooled though, you must do your homework or the least the review.
I took her in the summer, and I hardly went. She goes over things... OVER and OVER. If math comes easily to you, you will get bored. I was very bored. She's easy enough, though.
She is very easy and helpful teacher
I HAD A WONDERFUL TIME. WELL! IT'S MY FAULT THAT I COULD NOT KEEP UP THE GRADE, OTHERWISE SHE IS VERY DOWN TO EARTH.. LOVE HER !!, VERY POLITE AND UNDERSTANDING.
She is one of the best teachers I have ever had. She is always in her office to answer questions. I would recommend her to every one
She is one of the best teacher i had last semester. really helpful and easy to understand. She gives extra points work for the tests, this really helps with the grade. Dont even bother to buy the book, i never did.
Do not take this class. It is not super hard, just completely boring. Teacher is quirky and dull. Good intentions but still I would not take this class again.
Took her for 0306 & 1314 made a 100 in each class. Her notes are thorough and the tests are just like the examples in the notes.
She is a very nice person and teacher. My only problem is that she moves too fast with the material and thinks all the students are a Math whiz. Her tests are not that easy unless you are good at Math. She picks hard questions and never does M/C questions on her test.
Great Teacher! Show up to class, do the homework, and you will do fine. I found that the SI sessions helped out quite a bit when I could attend them, but she was always available to help as well. She made Calculus really simple and easy to understand.
Very helpful
took her for 0306 and 1314. she's super easy if you just follow the notes. Made a 100 in both classes.
You have to study hard, but she does not make it impossible to get an A. She is a great teacher and really knows her stuff!Great teacher would take her again!
Great Teacher. Very Easy gives great notes and she puts the notes online for you to get. All ways willing to help students if they don't understand anything. I would take her again for future classes.
great teacher
I took her for both Cal I and Cal II. i learned a lot, this teacher makes you like math again. She is will try her best to explain if you have questions. Her exams are very similar to the reviews. Very easy class if you do homework and study her notes.
GRAT TEACHER. I TRANS. FROM ANOTHER CLASS. SHE WAS HELPFUL AND UNDERSTANDING. sHE EXPLAIN ALGEBRA SO ANYONE CAN UNDERSTAND IT. SHE USES MYMATHLAB SO YOU DON'T HAVE TO PURCHASE A BOOK.;)
Great Teacher!
An amazing professor! I had her for precal during the fall and trig over the summer, in both cases she was fantastic. She tests straight off her lectures, gives lots of partial credit, and does an example for every type of homework problem during class. At times she's a bit over excited, but she knows what we students need to know and really care a
She is super nice! She teaches math step by step. I love that. If you get lost feel free to ask, she like students to ask questions. She gives you options with homework so that is nice. If I had more math to take, I would definitly take her again.
Tests were easy so long as you did and understood the review. Lots of partial credit on tests. Really nice professor and always willing to help out and work problems.
She works her tail off in class and goes over tons of problems. She is a great teacher! She really knows her stuff and really cares about the students. She does not waste a second of time in class because shes doing so much. She works so much and so hard and she does it all for the students so they can learn. Take her.
i LOVE this professor. she is extremely helpful. super easy. just pay attention in class and take notes. she's actually pretty humorous at times. she ALWAYS gives you extra credit on tests, so it's not that hard to past her tests either. there should not be a reason why anyone should fail her class. too easy. bottom line is, I LOVE THIS TEACHER!
Very good teacher. Tries to make sure everyone understands and offers help after class to those who may get stuck. Test are from the notes. Make an effort and you will pass.
I love Ms. Payne. Seriously one of the kindest, most helpful teachers at SJC. If you're stressing about taking a math course, this is the one for you. She goes at a slow pace and makes sure you know EXACTLY what to do. Reviews for every test, extra credit for every test. Final replaces the lowest test. I'd recommend to ANYONE! Take her!!
If you struggle in math at all, you NEED to take Mrs. Payne. I liked my Precal prof, but I loved Mrs. Paynes class. Seriously probably my best prof so far.
Mrs.Payne is awesome. She will work with you if you miss a test. She drops your lowest test grade. Almost made an A but didn't get there. :( But overall, she is an excellent math professor. Too bad I will not be able to take her for Summer.
Do your HW take your quizes and keep up and you will do great!! Her tests r 100% easier than the reviews. I was afraid of alg but I think it has alot to do w/ the teacher.Plus I haven't taken math in 13 years and made a 'B'.... And she is EXTREMELY helpful, forgets alot, but very helpful.....
She teaches with passion. Payne enjoyes helping her students and I encourage if you need help go to her in conference hours. If you do all your homework, you will be fine. For test, she gives difficult reviews, but very helpful to prepare for the test. There are 3 test worth 20% each, homework 5%, and final exam 35% or she drops the lowest grade
Cal II isnt exactly an easy class! But she makes up for that by doing everything she can to help you out... The rest is totally up to you. I made a C in a 5-week course but that was my fault. If you apply yourself in her classes, you will get an A
I was in the same class with the student below me and I am glad that I am not the only person who got a C. This class was one of the most difficult classes but I managed to pass because she makes up for such a short time (5 week). If you really apply yourself, you can get an A. I barely studied sometimes and still passed with a C. She is good.
Terrible online teacher. Only use MyMath Lab but her tests are completely different. She may be good in a face-to-face class but not online. She's very nice but needs to stick to face-to-face classes only.
Excellent teacher; Professor Payne teaches with genuine interest and cares about how well you understand the material. I hate math and she got me through Calculus: that says something!
Wonderful math teacher. Clear explanations, and makes sure students understand. Very helpful and will answer questions. Minimal MyMathLab homework. So sad she left in the middle of the semester :( but happy that she had her baby. (my sub, Mccurdy, was awful.)
Very nice instructor and extremely helpful. Unfortunately, reviews one week before tests so you might not remember it if you struggle w/math.
Had her for precal. Class is easy. Only thing is she is not as organized as other professors. Also, the homework is time consuming but easy. Overall, a very good choice for precal.
Great teacher! But not too breezy, she expects people to be there in class and on time. Homework load is probably above average yet will help you pass the test. I don't really recommend her for people looking for an easy A in math, but for those who major in it i highly suggest her! She is very clear and posts all notes online.
Teacher very unorganized, went off topic all the time. I had a hard time staying focused because of it.
Professor Payne is very nice and helpful! A lot of works for Precal though, but there are always review materials for testes. She did give out a midterm and a final for Precal online.
Great teacher for PreCal. Very willing to help if you don't understand something. I would NOT recommend this professor if you are looking to an easy A. She provides way more homework assignments than average but all help prepare you for tests. I took this course online including tests but the Midterm and Final are proctored on campus.
She is the best math teacher I have ever had! If you can't pass with her as a teacher then you will probably never pass. You will also learn a ton if you put in a little bit of effort. So if you have to drive an extra to take her it's worth it. Overall one of the best decisions I have ever made and stick with her it's worth it!
This is the professor you need to take it. Let me tell you, that this is not an easy professor but as long as you do you hw you will be good. She is more than willing to help and answer questions. She is very nice. I would take her again. 100% recommended
this teacher is absolutely wonderful!!!! TAKE HER! She is a very fair grader and she knows her stuff. she's always open to answering questions. The course really is pretty easy if you are willing to pay attention and put a little effort in it. I probably wouldn't have done as well in it if i wouldn't have taken her. also, don't buy the textbook
She explains the material very well. She will go over it until you fully understand it. Her test reivews are very helpful. Overall a great cal 2 professor.
Great teacher! Go to midterm and final reviews if you are taking the online class. She will specify what will be on the tests. AMAZING!
HORRIBLE. Horrible at teaching. You really don't learn anything in his class , tests are very hard , not very helpful. you're basically teaching yourself. Would not recommend her
REALLY HELPFUL Instructor! If you are not a big fan of math and struggle with it then you should take her class. There are 6 exams and a final which replaces the lowest test grade. Also do all your work and DO NOT buy the textbook. Math is my worst and least favorite subject and I still passed her class with an A!
There is a LOT of work in this class, especially online. But taking it online is nice because it was mainly on mymathlab and you got instant feedback and the opportunity to work more problems if you didn't get it the first time. Prof. Payne is so helpful, she holds 3 tutoring sessions a week online . She gives partial credit on tests.
good professor but she has a lot of homework and some times she doesn't explain everything very well.
Professor payne was a very easy going teacher. Even though she does give a lot of homework, doing the homework does help a lot to understand the material. Also her reviews are amazing and really help when it comes to reviewing for an exam. Would love to take her again.
i took professor payne for precalgebra which is pre cal and algebra together in the same course and she was alright. fell behind on lessons from time to time but she's very helpful with feedback and any questions. if you're good at math you'll be great but if you struggle like me, you'll have to work hard for a passing grade
She is really amazing, professor Payne really is good at explaining everything and cares about her students. There is a lot of outside class work, but it helps prepare you to be successful. If you need help just ask her.
She was a great professor, but was taking the class too seriously, and does not prepare you well enough for Calculus.
She is great at teaching and cares a lot for your success. Spend time to talk to her and seek for help if you struggle. She explains thing so well it makes math much simpler to understand. Extra credits earned in class as group work before every test. Average amount of hw. Attendance not required if your grade is good. Lecture note is posted online
Note: I took this class over Summer, so it might not be be exactly as in Fall/Spring Great prof. with good lectures. Posted notes on Blackboard after. Do the HW to get the material down good, it'll help. Good, solid exams, nothing too hard. She does exam reviews day before. 3 exams and a Final which replaces lowest
I took her for pre cal and cal 1. Do your homework and study you will do fine
She was not a bad teacher but her final is 30% of your grade. You can make straight hundreds and do bad on the final and fail the whole semester. I had an 87.9 the day before the final. Went to take the final and she took away the note card she told us we could us because she didn't "approve". I did poo on my final and went from a 87.9 to a 67 :(
Very good teacher that teaches the material very well. You will learn well if you pay attention and do the work. Uses every minute of class. Definitely a good math teacher. Tests are very important and she gives formulas sometimes.
Glad to say I had Professor Payne for Pre-Cal, she explains the problems very clearly in class and will help if you have any questions. Homework was out of the book and used almost every day in class. If you do the homework and study for the test then you'll pass no problem
Took her for cal 2 and she makes a hard class easy to understand. She tries to make sure everyone in the class understands the lectures. I like that even if you miss a lecture she'll help you get caught up. She really knows her stuff and finds different ways to explain an otherwise very difficult class. I've taken her twice and I'd take her again.
Wonderful! The subject/work is difficult, but she tries her best to present it in the clearest manner possible, and is willing to work with you should you need anything. I thoroughly enjoyed this course.
I took cal 1 over two years ago and took her fall 2018, she will help you understand anything you might have forgotten. Very helpful outside of class and in office hours. Homework is graded 4 times, so you have to complete a few chapters of homework and turn in it before the test. If you try to understand & do homework you'll be fine.
I'm taking her class spring 2019 and so far so good. she explains in great detail, step by step. She also posts the notes we take in class on black board. In my opinion that's is extremely helpful because I can just sit in and listen during class and not have to miss a step while trying to write everything down. I recommend this class. Will update.
Professor Payne is an amazing teacher! She really makes sure students understand the material needed. Shes posts lecture notes online but I find it is way better to be there in person to learn it all. Overall, a great teacher that I would take again.
Easy A Pre-Calculus class. Just keep concentrated, submit homeworks(which are usually a lot) on time, and do extra credit which she offers before every exam. Class has 4 exams and 1 final exam. Plus, no need to buy textbook, just take pictures from libarary book to complete homeworks
This class was absolutely horrible. I took calculus 1 first 5-weeks got a D in it. She is a tough grader, everyday lets us out late from the class, and gives a ton of homework. Never take her!
She is the sweetest person on this planet, and she handles her class in a kind, professional, and (mostly) organized manner. You are expected to have a background in College Algebra, but she will explain/go over algebra despite the fact that she is not required to while going over all course material. She is available for tutoring A LOT. Take her!
One of the best math professors hands down. Gotta do work in order to get good grades in the class but she offers partial credit.
I have nothing but great things to say about this professor. She was very kind, informative, and helpful throughout the entire course. If a student was confused on a topic, she would not hesitate to address the misconception. Additionally, she was accessible outside of class and responded to emails promptly. I will be taking her again for CAL 2
I took her for Cal 2. Im good at math so I didnt find this class difficult. Course has 3 tests and a final which replaces one of the test. Homework takes time to complete but soln are available online for help. Quiz are couple questions and easy. If you have problems, she will help you during office hours or in library. Dont miss lectures.
My experience was absolutely fantastic. Professor Payne was extremely helpful throughout the course and quick to respond to emails. I would retake her again any day. Its too bad shes not teaching calculus 3 in the fall!
One of the BEST math teachers I've EVER had. She has regular office hours and is very accessible when you need help. I never thought I'd be able to pass Pre-Cal but taking her, I got an awesome grade. She does live reviews if you need them. All around AWESOME!
I took her because she had good reviews.... but no. If Pre-calc its hard for you then do not take her. She helps you out somewhat. She has online meetings one day out the week and you need to be there to be counted as present. Ive had better teachers, she allows for you to catch up on lectures but her quizzes are very hard.
took Prof Payne for pre-cal. she made the material very easy to understand. plan on taking her again for my other calculus classes.
I loved her very sweet. She does have a bit of homework on my math lab but the steps are there if you need help. We have lecture once a week optional and 4 tests. She is willing to help and during lecture answers a lot of questions from the students. She has a good system for online. I would take again.
Professor Payne is a fantastic teacher. She's wicked smart and her lectures are awesome. Very clear expectations. Cares for her students and wants them to succeed. Lots of work though. Tests were tough but fair. Her exam reviews are super helpful. Overall, linear algebra can be a tough class, but Payne will guide you and help you learn it.
She is so sweet and will never hesitate to help! She is understanding and will work things out with you. Lectures are clear, gives reviews, exams were like reviews, and open note exams. Extra credit here and there. I will be taking her again for Cal 2. You can clearly tell how much she cares about your success.
LOVED Professor Payne. I didn't quite understand calculus 1 but when I took calculus II with Payne she truly helped me understand the course better. Took her online on a schedule class, lectures were great, open-note exam. You can truly tell she cares about your success.
Professor Payne is a great professor, she works hard to make things clear and to structure classes in a way that students can succeed. Linear algebra was inherently tedious but not hard to understand, so just be careful in your arithmetic and you should be fine. Prof. Payne was a very fair grader and lecturer and her Q&As were helpful.
I took this course online anytime. It was a pretty easy experience, only thing that messed me up were the exams. There are 4 exams, she gives a review prior by mathlab which helps a lot. Right now I have a 90 exactly but still have to take the final. Wish me luck.
Prof Payne was amazing! Shes easily accessible and responds to emails quickly. I took her for an online Pre Cal class, and the lecture videos and presentations are great for learning the materials. I highly recommend her!
Prof. Payne - great instructor, fair grader, willing to help. I took online anytime, she was accessible & held office hours. Go to office hours. Lectures were given in pdf format with some videos attached, but mostly had to read and teach myself, I disliked this method- hard to learn that way. full video lectures are better for my learning.
This class was difficult for me, but math has never been my best subject. I took it online anytime and it felt like I had to teach myself a lot of the time. Professor Payne was always good about answering emails and questions, but online anytime is tough. There was tons of homework, but that really helped strengthen my math skill.
There is a lot of homework but its really in your benefit so you can actually remember the material for tests. It also helps with your overall grade if youre not a great test taker or do bad on one exam. If you go to class, take notes, turn in homework, and study vocab, youll for sure pass her class. (Ps, lin alg gets easier after the first exam)
Professor Payne was a nice person, but taking her class online was horrible. Her lectures were helpful, but it felt like I was teaching myself during the homework. The tests are what got me the most. If you struggle with math, I do not recommend.
Professor Payne is fantastic, and one of the best professors I've had. She cares so much, and knows so much about the material. I haven't had a professor that cares this much about teaching since High School. Linear Algebra is a hard class, and a lot, and there's not much she can do about that, but if you do the work, she won't let you down.
wonderful professor, planning on taking her again for linear algebra hopefully. open note tests and lowest test score gets replaced by the final.
I could not more highly rate Prof. Abigail Payne. Usually I go to central campus, but went to south campus for her honors section Calculus 1 class. She is very passionate about mathematics, and seeks to instill and understanding of why things worth versus just telling you they work. If you are on the fence about taking her courses, look no further.
Professor Payne is an amazing, patient, and caring teacher. She explains her answers in a step-by-step on screen way so you always know how she reaches her answer. She always tries to make sure each student is understanding material well and will personally help if not. She answers questions kindly and clearly. Definitely take her math course!
I've had a way-too-long, roundabout college career, and taken a lot of classes with a lot of professors, and Ms. Payne may very well be my favorite. She made difficult concepts easy to understand, and it showed when I got to later Math classes at my 4-year school. She also cares deeply about her students, in a way I haven't seen since High School.
Took this prof from pre-cal to currently cal2, will take for cal3. A top tier prof. She isn't above reteaching fundamentals from all levels of math even in the middle of a calc2 lecture. Extremely dynamic teaching style. Don't think there's a student she couldn't teach, given the student cares to learn. Also she's a very sweet lady, very humble.
I took her anwhile ago for colle algebra and I did very well in the easy class. I went on to university and was not ready for anything math related. I couldn't even get into UT when I tried. I was not ready for any math and I made a A in this class. Don't take her as you won't learn any math. You will get a easy A, but it won't do you any good.
Professor is very sweet and humble. Great teaching style. 3-4 lecture exams on paper, 1 final, weekly aleks homework and some quizzes. Gives extra credit reviews, overall great class and great teacher.
I would definitely recommend taking her class she makes it as easy as possible for you to understand the material. Her exam review always match what is on the exams. Only suggestion would be give yourself plenty of time to study and don't slack off on the homework, also take any extra credit she offers you.
Took her for a 5-week course during the summer so it was very accelerated and lots of homework. But Professor Payne made it as less stressful as possible to help you with managing the workload and learning the material for this class. Always pay attention to her lectures and give time to study a lot. Very humble and easygoing.
Took her in the summer which was a 5-wk term. Very accelerated but Professor Payne tries to make it as less stressful as possible and easy to understand the material. Very humble and easygoing. Also provides extra credit on exam reviews and/or on the exam.
All I can say is Professor Payne is not only the best math instructor I've ever had, but the best instructor I've ever had period. In all known metrics, a perfect professor.
