She's nice as a person, but not the best as a professor. She goes very fast and expects us to learn the rest of the material on our own. Her accent makes it a bit harder to understand her. Your best bet is literally going to SI because she teaches way better than her. Do the SI's practice exams and you should be ok because they are very similar.
Shes nice but hard to understand. Lectures have required attendance and include clicker questions
Doesnt spend a lot of time really going in depth and moves really fast in class.
If you struggle with chemistry do not take this professor. It is hard to understand her and she goes really fast. Her exams are nothing like what she teaches in class. It is pretty much useless to go to class but you have to go because she does i clicker quizzes which are a big part of the grade.
Avoid at all costs. Worst professor for CHEM 119. Take someone else. She doesn't know how to teach or explain. She got no clue what she's saying either. Frustrating.
The lectures are a bit fast, but she does ask for feedback. She's pretty cool to be honest, understanding. SI sessions and office hours are offered. The lectures are a bit hard to follow, and you have a cengage homework that takes a few hours every week, but the cengage goes pretty in depth. She sends out study guides and curves exams.
Do not recommend. Worst chem prof to take. The first time I went to tutoring, the tutor had no idea what we were doing. She doesn't teach well or explain topics that are going to be on the weekly homework.
I feel like everyone who left a poor rating just didn't pay attention in class or go to office hours. I was worried about taking Chem, but she makes it bearable. She does move fast but way less so than other Chem 119 professors. She also gives opportunities for extra credit and curves the tests, so I would definitely recommend her as a professor.
In all honesty, the negative reviews are being left by those who completely ignored Dr. Songok in class and would spam groupme during the lecture period. I've always struggled with sciences but this professor made chem more bearable! She offers an array of extra credit opportunities and is extremely approachable and understanding! :)
Very kind and sweet professor. Very difficult to understand her and does talk very quickly. You have to put in the work. She makes it very possible for you to succeed. She also wants all of her students to do well. If you do practice exams and homework an A is very easy to achieve. She is not as bad as people say, take her. So nice!!!
Extremely kind and easy to work with!! Came in with little chem knowledge (did not take AP Chem lmao) and managed to get an A! She does move fast but offers a fair amount of extra credit and is workable with homework deadlines! Take her if you want an easy chem prof!
I hated this course. I took this class because of time connivence and was mistaken. Nice, but does not give in depth explanations on anything and expects you to know way more than you already should. If you took AP chem in high school (all the good reviews) I promise you are fine. I however, did not, and was constantly playing catch up. Don't Take.
I love how she is constantly asking for feedback on how she can improve, and always follows through with the feedback. She was willing to explain extra if the class was confused and wanted to make sure everyone understood. I didn't take AP chem in hs, but found this class easy especially with the homework and clicker points.
I say take her if you are willing to put in some work for the class. She is fast with her explanations and a little bit hard to understand. Go to SI and do practice exams and you should be set for the exams. She offers lots of extra credit and curves. Homework is fair. Attendance required for iclicker points. Did not take AP Chem in hs.
Super sweet and caring prof. Honestly not good at science so I was pretty worried about this class. All the practice questions, homework, and SI sessions really helped though. She also gave a 6-point extra credit opportunity that many people didn't take advantage of and curves tests. Good class for being 2 days a week!
I personally did not enjoy this class. I like chemistry as a whole but her lectures were really not helpful at all, you learn everything off of ALEKS, including exam material. She's nice and will work with students but the class itself was just not enjoyable. Not hard, just a lot of at-home work and mandatory attendance.
Like all Chem 119 profs, Professor Songok uses Aleks in her class. Honestly, it is the only way I got anything out of her class. Her lectures are word for word from the digital textbook. The biggest issue I had with her was how she spaced out ALEKS assignments. I would have preferred less modules due multiple times a week than 30 due every Tue/Wed
Professor Songok is a very nice and caring professor. Her lectures can be overwhelming at times, but her tests are really easy if you attend the SI session and just take the practice exams that they offer. I REPEAT IF YOU WANT TO DO WELL ON TESTS ATTEND THE SI SESSION.
I just come into class and do my homework lol.
I just come into class and do my homework with my friends.
Attendance is mandatory because you get iCliker points, what taught me the most was the Aleks HW online. Syllabus is clear, homework is once a week. Tests are taken at home with a lockdown browser, and the final is taken in person. I think that this class is a pretty easy B+, and an A if you put in some work. Gives 4% extra credit.
Most students go to class to do homework at this point because her lectures are not helpful. Her class is very much teach yourself by doing aleks hw. Attendance is mandatory because of iclicker participation questions. She is definitely not the worse but avoid if possible.
If possible try your very best to get another professor. This class isn not for the weak and you have to teach yourself . The class is based on Aleks this assignment software which is everyone's nightmare.
Did the homework during class and went to SI to learn. The practice exam and exam review the SI did was more helpful than any of her lectures. Only went to class because of iClicker. She forces groupwork through jamboard which was so confusing and inconvenient. Does offer extra credit though.
She is honestly so kind and very smart but her lectures can be overwhelming. Aleks is what all of the homework is on and a few of the test are on there too. She has been very helpful to every question I have asked. SI sessions are your lifesaver. Out of many chem 119 profs she is probably one of the better ones to take for your first year chem.
She was absolutely the worst professor I had this semester. It is very hard to understand what she is saying and her teaching is not helpful for when it comes to tests. The homework is very lengthy and does not help either. If you take this class prepare to teach everything to yourself or go to a tutor.
Professor Songok literally read off a 100 pg slideshow for two hours and gave us about two minutes to respond to iClicker questions, which were more complex than what were in the slideshows. She never had a consistent homework schedule and would change due dates continuously. The only way to kinda understand chemistry is to go to the SI sessions.
She has assigned seating, a thick accent, and attendance through iclicker. She also has participation questions during lectures. All the homework is on ALEKS and the exams are on there too. The only way I learned was through the homework because I couldn't understand her and she didn't make sense to me.
She spoke very quickly and her lectures we not helpful at all. after 2 months I just stopped listening and did homework in class instead which improved my grade since her tests are on Aleks where the homework is. Her teaching style was not very good and took at least 2 weeks to respond to emails. Pay attention to Aleks hw if you wanna pass.
Overall, the class was not difficult. Not because she's a good teacher, but because it is easy to teach yourself . She gives an extra credit opportunity for 4% bonus points, and she is really nice and wants to help. Her class is painfully boring as she just reads off a hundred-page slideshow, but attendance is mandatory so be sure to show up!!
I feel as though her lectures weren't helpful at all, I began to do my homework and lab reports during the lecture, but had to attend class since our attendance was worth a part of the overall grade. Gives 40 points of extra credit onto the lecture grade, and the tests are online and at home. Final was in person and comprehensive.
She seems like the best out of all the chem 119 options. gave us 4 points on the overall average. all exams except the final were given on your own time at home, lots of material was given to take the exam. ALEKS will be your best friend, use them to learn, do them during lectures because it's not helpful. Exams are easy.
Showed up to her class and just did homework. She explained concepts poorly even when I went to office hours. The SI sessions made the class manageable, but just barely. Used Aleks and iclicker way too much and leaned heavily on them. If you can teach yourself the material her class is fine, otherwise take another prof.
She is behind her own schedule in the syllabus and does not teach us important homework concepts before the homework is due. We have to teach ourselves. She does a fantastic job explaining concepts, but goes at such a slow pace that you end up teaching yourself most of the homework, and therefore most of the class. She should not be teaching.
If I could give Songok a 0 rating, I would. Beyond the fact that she is a horrific lecturer, she seems completely uninterested in what she is teaching, and how her course is operating. A&M is usually great about hiring capable staff, but they vastly missed the mark employing her. She is disorganized, unenthusiastic, and lacks basic common sense.
I took Dr. Songok in Fall 2022, and I hated it. She is hard to understand, English is not her first language, and she's terrible at answering questions. Go to SI sessions and study like crazy if you want to succeed. IClicker is taken in class, but that's about all you'll learn. Homework is okay, but expect to teach yourself most of the material.
She seems like a lady who wants to teach but she is very hard to understand. She is soft spoken, uses a handheld microphone instead of tthe clip, and she has a very thick accent. She also explained things very confusing and would double back on what she had just said. She uses jamboard which idk what she even wanted us to do on it, I never did it.
Songok is ok, lectures are unhelpful but mandatory (iClicker). GO TO SI. Lots of HW, do early and its not bad. Songok is understanding though and will often give extensions. Least of the evils for chem profs honestly.
Professor Songok is a good professor. She does give one homework each week that aren't that hard to complete just time consuming. All of the tests are online besides final. She gives a fantastic review for the final. Make sure to be present for IClicker because it is a good portion of grade. Good prof overall!
Everything about the class was confusing. SI really helped me through it, so go to SI. She curves and gives extra credit. Her exams aren't impossible, but you have to teach yourself so if you aren't good at that, take someone else.
I like how this class is setup to where it is possible to get an A even if you don't do good on an exam. Lecture portion is the most challenging due to her not teaching the material that well. You're going to have to learn it on your on. Lab was pretty easy. Just hope your lab partners are chill! Overall, she's a good person but not the best prof.
She was def NOT my favorite. She didn't follow the syllabus and the whole class was a mess. Exams were online, but the final was in person. The ppts were all over the place, and it was hard to keep up. SI's don't help since they're at the worst times. She gives a study guide before each exam with hints about each question. Didn't learn anything.
This class was very disorganized. I feel like she had no idea what she was teaching, and I was not confident in asking her questions about the material as I feel she would not know the answer. She uses JamBoard and it is an EXTREME waste of time. Take literally anyone else and you'll be better off.
Many students don't agree but I found Dr. Songok to be so funny. The best way to succeed is come to class and DO THE HOMEWORK. The homework is how you learn. Labs are easy but time consuming work. She offers extra credit and it is very possible to get an A: do the homework, show up to class, do the lab assignments and you will be fine.
You must do the homework! The homework is exactly like the exams. If you do well on the homework, you will do well in the class. She also gives out extra credit which is super helpful. I wouldn't say that it is a difficult class, but be ready to work for the grade.
The lectures are hard to understand and often made simple concepts seem very confusing. there is a lot of homework but it is the best way to learn and the exams are not hard if you do all of the homework.
2nd time retaking CHEM 119 and finally passed. Hard teacher to understand but TAKE HER you wont regret it. Homework is on mindtap which gives you multiple times to attempt questions. Exams are all online, not proctored, and give two days to do it. The final is in person during class. Caring teacher. Most of the time pushes the due date back.
3 Exams- unproctored, 2 days to take. Final in person. COMMUNICATE & SHE WILL WORK WITH U! Attend her office hrs after exams and ask questions (she may raise by 1-2 pts) ATTEND CLASS! - IClicker is almost mandatory! DO YOUR GROUP PROJECT!!- 5% extra to final grade. She isnt horrible just do the homework, attend class, and ask for help!
While chemistry is hard enough, she does not make it easier. She is actually very rude to her students if you ask a question during lecture, and seems very uninterested in what shes teaching. English is not her first language either, so if you're not good at teaching yourself concepts, do not take her. 3 exams online and a Final in person.
Taking her right now, currently have an A+ (two out of four exams taken). 4 In-class exams, one easy group project, homework is on ALEKS every week. She talks fast so some people find it hard to keep up, but if you go to office hours she's so sweet and helpful + she gives hints for the exams. *did not take ap chem *all chem119 profs use aleks :((
she is just a terrible teacher
I found paying attention in the lecture difficult because It was going through the slides. However, come exam week she prepares study guides and practice problems which help so much. GO TO OFFICE HOURS AND SI SESSIONS on exam week and she essentially gives you what is on the test and she always curves it. Hardest part is the lab it's so tedious.
Don't let the other reviews deter you from taking this professor! She's the sweetest. There's only one homework assignment each week (online and an automatic 100 if you do it). She is very accessible outside of class, and records and posts the lectures. She also posts a review for each exam, if you study it then you will get an A. Curves the exams!
Dr Songok is so sweet and wants her students to succeed. Exams are not online anymore, but her study guides tell you exactly what will be tested. If you study and do the reviews an A is not difficult. She is really patient and understanding and will go out of her way to help her students. Chem is not a blow off class so ofc study, but shes great!
Although her lectures were sometimes difficult to follow, she was very sweet and clearly cared about our success. Her office hours were extremely helpful and study guides were almost identical to the tests. She will always make the time to help her students and prepares us well for exams.
loved her as a person, but not as a professor :( she reads off of the lecture slides that were accessible in canvas so attending class had no point besides iclicker points. the way she would work out problems didn't click with me and i had to teach myself pretty much everything. get another prof if you can; if you can't, seek help from others asap!
This class should be an easy A. She posts practice tests a week before the actual tests which are very similar to actual test. However, she isn't that good of a teacher. Take her as a professor if you took AP Chem for an easy A, if you didn't take AP Chem take a different prof as you won't learn chemistry in her class.
Uses iClicker religiously, and is a very boring prof to listen to. I just sat in class doing other things instead of listening. Tests are straightforward to study for. Mostly taught myself through ALEKs and youtube. Tests are easier than in other prof's classes. Lowest exam grade is replaced with final grade. She's an easy and fast grader.
She is not a good professor at all, she is solely a chemist rather than an educator. She does try her hardest but she constantly makes mistakes in class in regards to her math that confuse lots of student. Ridiculous ALEKS assignments that are very annoying. She had a seating chart on the first lecture, Overall get ready to learn on chem on youtube
Professor Songok was great! She is an incredibly sweet person and gives many opportunities for grades. Chem 120 can be difficult if you don't put effort in, but overall not terrible. She uses iClicker every lecture for a grade, so going to lecture matters. Lectures can be boring, but she does typically explain slides. Exams aren't bad. Take her!
Take this professor if you want an EASY A. The iclicker is a built in grade for the class, so attendence is "mandatory." All of her exams were copy paste ALEKS practice exams, so you could literally just study that and get an A. Lectures are good, but ALEKS is what I learned most from. Lots of projects.
This is a tough course, but her lectures and overall class structure definitely contribut to your learning. Could not recommend her more!
Honestly, I hated this professor at first, but she is very caring and wants you to pass as long as you put in the work. Her exams were almost identical to the practice question and study guides she gives, and I ended up making a 90 on my final. I just took this over the summer as a 10 week course so during a normal semester shouldn't be too bad.
When you get taught by a good chemistry professor, Professor Songok will show what its like to be taught by a bad professor. She doesn't explain many of the topics in class, and usually just jumps right into practice problems. Get ready to teach yourself chemistry because the professor won't. Tests were super easy tho
She's hard when it comes to lectures as well as tests, but does want to help you as much as possible
Has the most confusing way of talking about anything, bad elaboration in all lectures; does not “teach” but read from slides, does not “solve” problems but, again, read from slide; has the most confusing instructions in the world and does not guide the students through the things she posted on canvas; does not provide any sorts of study guidance
I always recommend songok for anyone wanting an A. The slides and homework prepared me for every exam. Practice exams exactly like exams. She will curve exams with bad averages, and she gives a group project that is basically a free 100 to boost ur grade. Not a ton of homework and she would push back due dates often. Used class time to do hw.
DONT TAKE HER IF YOU WANT TO LIVE SHES SO BAD DO NOT TAKE HER AT ALL
So she's basically the worst professor for such a hard course. She will not teach and she would ask the class to correct her on mistakes she did while explaining... ALEKS was hell because each homework had like 60 questions and they were long math problems. BUT, for the exams ALEKS will be your bestie, it will teach you better than her.
Songok genuinely cares about the success of her students. Although she may not be the best lecturer, tests are practically identical to the practice questions and she gives partial credit if you go to her during office hours. Take this class for an A, take another prof if you want to actually learn chemistry easier.
Professor Songok's lectures are pretty boring, and I ended up zoning out most of the time and just using the homework to teach myself. The tests are exactly like the review, so it's not hard to get a good grade. But to understand chem concepts more, I'd not recommend her.
only good thing that came out of this class was my lab group #trauma bonding She doesn't teach, just yaps. Teach yourself through ALEKS. Do all of them and practice with them. Go to class for iClicker. She makes you do Perusal which is a waste of time. She will give exam practice which is helpful, and exams sometimes be like them. Good luck!
She spends most of class talking about running and teamwork. When she actually tries to teach chemistry, she just reads from the slides with minimal explanation. Exams aren't too hard if you teach yourself and do the HW, but be prepared for 40-60 question HW. Also, expect to correct her math often. Just try and avoid taking from her if possible
Spends way too much time of other things instead of the actual lectures. Complete a group project second week, still hasn't graded it. Homework's are easy 100s, but are usually 60 questions. The lab was even worse. Horrible grading criteria, inconsistent, very frustrating.Chem120 email sucks. Just don't. Take someone that is easier to understand.
She seems to care about her students, but she does not make sense at all. Lectures are spent going over 1-2 practice problems the entire 50 minutes. We barely get through any material during lecture, feel like I have to teach myself everything to do good on exams. Homeworks are usually 60 questions but should be an easy 100 if you take the time.
Super hard tests and hard to understand. Do not take this course. She will not answer emails or anything either.
Dr. Songok is very nice, but her teaching might not be for everyone. The class has easy exams, homework, and lecture preview assignments. I would say the class is an easy A as long as you keep up with work, but it might take you teaching yourself some topics to really understand things. Lab will most likely be the thing bringing down your grade.
The reviews are honest, she's not a great lecturer. However, you're given all the resources you could possibly need and she offers extra credit. If you're any good at self studying, you'll succeed in this class.
She's not a good lecturer and her style of teaching is definitely not for everyone, but she offers so many extra credit opportunities that if you just study and complete the work, you will pass. Class has a lot of homework that take forever to finish, but her practice questions are basically a copy of the test. Just be ready to self study sometimes
I took her fall 2024 for CHEM 120. She is not good at lecturing, but everything you need can be learned from ALEKS and youtube (Ochem tutor is my fav). Her tests are fairly easy (understand concepts). You only need a 70% for iclicker. I got an 85% for the lab with ~5 hrs of lab work per week. Overall, this class is an easy A, but its on you.
Be prepared to spend a lot of time on the lab every week if you want an A. Overall pretty easy class, but make sure to learn stuff on your own as she doesn't teach very well in lectures.
To get an A in her class do the following -Study ALEKS a lot for exams -After your exam, go to office hours for partial credit -The final was the easiest exam, its just like the ALEKS Bad things/Drawbacks -I spent probably 65% of the in class time on tik tok (lectures are boring)
Dr. Songok is smart but it doesn't translate well when she's teaching. She's a nice lady, but expects us to know everything. Lecture was not that helpful you'll need to do a lot of self study. Also go to office hours and get the extra points on Iclicker. There is also a group project which is lowkey a waste of time.
Lots of daily assignments. Every lecture had pre-lecture reading, just to use all the lecture time going over the pre-lecture reading. Mandatory teamwork assignments that aren't super useful. Exams were easy and very representative of the review questions. Lab portion is not fun and is graded very strictly, with the main goal to waste your time.
HW wasn't too helpful and the lecture itself was boring. There will be times where she would skip slides. However, her exams are extremely easy if you look at her review. B+ and above is definitely possible but I did not learn anything from her class.
Gave assigned seating for a group project she uses for a grant. Tests had NOTHING to do with lecture. ALEKs reviews were similar to the third and final exam. Notes were all over the place and she would get through 2 slides per lecture. If she is the only professor offered wait another semester for this class bc the stress is not worth it.
This might be the weirdest class I have taken, here's what to know... Lab is AWFUL 0/10. I could spend my lifetime perfecting 1 post lab and get a 60% with a note that says "no work shown" when the Q didnt ask for work? Songok is not a good professor however she is smart. The grading part of lecture is a 10/10, so much extra credit and replacements
She is a very kind person who cares for her students, but her style of lecture is inefficient if you are looking to learn from her lectures. If you are good at teaching yourself, then you will do just fine. Her test reviews were helpful. She gives extra credit and offers partial credit on exams if you review your test with her during office hours.
She was rude when you asked her questions and the exams were almost nothing like the reviews. She gives a loose list of things to know and an ALEKS review, but overall it's unhelpful. She also tries to force a study style on us which is unhelpful and gives Perusall assignments that she doesn't put on Canvas so forgetting to do them is easy.
Terrible professor, likely the worst I've ever had. Contrary to an earlier rating, she does NOT give credit back on exams. She gives so many assignments, there is one she gives every week that is easy to forget because she refuses to put them in the canvas calendars. She's rude when you ask questions and the lectures are INSANELY BORING.
Dr. Songok is a very kind person. I rarely pay attention in class and ALEK's problems are too hard and wouldn't use them to study. I HIGHLY recommend going to SI. There are 2 SI's per chem instructor to learn the material. I would go to one of the SI daily and both of the SI the week of the test. Songok's tests are easy. Lab exam hard
Not my fav professor ever. Lectures were boring and didn't help me. Had required readings due before class which didn't help me either. She was nice but not that helpful. I do think her exams were somewhat easy but only 16 questions so beware. Some exams were similar to ALEKS. I do think that if you learn content yourself it should be an easy A.
Really easy tests. Do the Aleks Reviews before the Exam. Easy class.
I genuinely do not understand why people do not like her! The accent is truly nothing to worry about, you get used to it in 20 minutes max in the first lecture. She has a lot of extra credit from Perusal (20 points) and is a fine lecturer! She is very clear on what you need to study for the tests, and we do so many Clickers and practice problems.
Nice person, tough prof. Lectures are hard to follow and she doesn't explain concepts clearly imo. Exams are 16 questions and difficult. ALEKS wasn't bad. Perusall hw was easy to forget but matters so DO IT. EC at the end of the year for attendance and completion. Not much but it helps. Class is survivable ig. This subject is a nightmare.
The ALEKS is not exactly like the tests, but it's pretty much as close as someone could get. Her lectures are not amazing, but she really does give you enough materials to prepare for the tests. Tests are not difficult at all. If someone failed, it was on them not her. Best word to describe her class is 'fair'. Overall, you will be fine.
Songok was a great lecturer, and I learned a lot from her class. The week of the test she will give out learning concepts that will be on the test to help you know exactly what you should study for. The ALEKS test reviews are not exactly like the test, but the concepts are similar. There's a discussion board through perusall due before class tho.
Dr. Songok's lectures were very unhelpful, but the exams were pretty similar to ALEKS reviews. She tried to be accessible for help, but I heard her office hours were very unhelpful. Perusall lecture previews before class were annoying to do, but easy extra credit, and didn't take too long. IClicker attendance matters so be sure to attend class.
I usually make a pros and cons list for every professor I rate. There are absolutely no pros for this professor. Lectures are hard to understand, and she works out chemistry problems in silence without explaining. Exams are unnecessarily hard; ALEKS homework does not help you prepare for any exam. Responds to 0 of her emails!!
Dr. Songok is not very lenient. ALEKS helps for about 40% of the exams. Lecture does not help in explaining conceptual information which are the root of solving math problems (she doesn't explain the math well either). If you struggle in math, good luck trying to figure this class out. Her office hours are her saying "you should know this".
Treats her class like high school.
she is very sweet but do not take her unless u are rly good at chemistry cause u wont learn anything
Shes so sweet but she is a really bad lecturer. I feel bad saying this but going to her class is genuinely pointless and the only benefit in going is getting the iclicker participation credit (which she does every class). Her exams are easy I guess but you do not learn anything from class.
Shes really sweet but shes so bad at lecturing, there is literally no point in going to class except to get the iclicker participation grade (which she does every class). You do not learn anything from class, you have to teach yourself everything, but her exams are somewhat easy.
she is the sweetest thing but if ur not good at chem ur fried
Avoid trying to speak to her before or after class, as she will not engage with you. It's important to attend the lectures, but be aware that they may not be helpful; she tends to present the material poorly, which you will be tested on in the next class. If you are majoring in education, you might enjoy this class, as you will teach yourself!
Songok is a reasonable. Lectures are more or less unhelpful but she does iClicker every class. SI sessions and ALEKS are extremely useful. Songok pretty much tells you how questions on the test will be asked if you ask her. Thus, tests are easy, but if you mess 1 question up it will tank your grade (16-20 questions avg.) Would recommend 100%.
In this class, I learned absolutely nothing through her lectures and had to teach myself every unit on my own. She is barely audible in the large lecture hall and gives little to no explanations behind what she is teaching.
while she herself is a great person, she seems to have unrealistic expectations based on her own abilities to lecture. honestly, teaching urself the material using SI sessions is the way to go for tests.
You won't learn anything in lectures, doesn't explain the math & expects you to already know it. Prereadings helpful but I had to teach myself everything, and the tests were HARD. Final replaces ur lowest grade which saved me, first C of my life. Homework is annoying. Group project is unnecessary. She lists concepts needed to know for exam.
Lectures are not the best, it's hard to follow along, but her tests are easy. You just have to teach yourself everything! But, an A is easily attainable as long as you put in the work before and after class. She's really really sweet though :'''')
If you have a decent basis of chemistry most of the course will be review, the tests aren't bad and the ALEKS hw isn't too much. Just do your work and go to the SI sessions
She has slide shows that are helpful but doesn't explain them very well. She gives perusall assignments which are very helpful, do them. The tests aren't bad if you take notes. If too many people fail the first test she will crash out and make you watch ted talks about studying and peer review notes for a week, and your class will fall behind.
The material itself wasn't too bad, but she doesn't know how to teach her students. She just reads off the slides and then expects you to understand. There is a Perusall due before every class, ALEKS homework usually once or twice a week, and then 3 tests (not including the cumulative final). Try to avoid her or else you'll be teaching yourself.
Dr. Songok is a decent professor. Her exams are the easiest out of all the other professors, but her lectures waste time. She is kind, but the pacing of CHEM 119 is very fast, and her teaching isn't super engaging. I would take her again for her exams, but expect to teach yourself some material. ALEKS is time-consuming, but helpful for learning.
She is a very nice person and definitely cares about her students, but her lectures are not the most helpful. Tests are easy though and plenty of bonus points at end of year. Shes drops the lowest grade for final additionally.
She is a terrible lecturer, you will learn nothing from her. However if you're willing to put in some work, study on your own, and teach yourself EVERYTHING you'll be fine. I didn't ever go to class halfway through the semester because her lectures are pointless. The study guides she posts are EXACTLY like the exams.
She is a very nice professor and is willing to help you in office hours. That being said, her lectures really didn't help me learn the content at all. If you are willing to actually do her pre-lecture work, homework, and reviews you will be fine. Her study guides are VERY similar to her exams and that is what I used to study!
The only point to attending lectures is answering iClicker questions since her lectures are only about as good as her slides (she literally reads them nearly word for word). For those well versed in chemistry, easy tests and no quizzes could make her a decent pick for you, but if you aren't good with chemistry, you won't learn much from her.
She's really sweet, and every exam including final is very basic and easy. I mean its gen chem. She might be hard to understand 10% of the time but she answers every question helpfully. No offense to the white girls in here that rated her a 2/5 but they're just dumb. This class is way easier than other science courses
Songok has a lower average than deserved. Her tests are nearly identical to the ALEKS assignments and reviews given, making it very easy to study and practice for. That being said, her lectures are not very helpful at all. The only reason I showed up to the lectures was to get iClicker credit. Overall, it was a pretty easy class to get through.
Professor Songok is very sweet, however I found her lectures hard to understand, most lectures I walked out not knowing what we learned. After failing her first 2 exmas I went to SI sessions, and got A's on test afterwards. SI sessions help so much, use her study guides as they are very similar to her exams. Lots of ALEKs H.W + IClickers every week
At the beginning of the semester, this was my least favorite course. But after the first exam, I started going to her office hours and came to find that she is very caring and helpful. Her lectures are hard to follow, but as long as you do the homework and practice tests, you'll do good on the exams. (Take advantage of ALL of the practice tests!)
