He is so nice and helpful. He is always available and I can still go to him this day. Great teacher!
This man is a chemistry genious. He is very committed to teaching during class and after class. If you put in the time, you will get an A in his class. That is more then you can say about a lot of prof's at MC. Cheers professor Mintz and I hope you get your roof fixed!
i had mintz for lab and he was very good. he knows his stuff and is always willing to help. he wants all his students to succeed. also he has been teaching for a long time so he knows good methods and tricks.
You can always find him after class & he will help you untill you understand it. The most helpful teacher i have had at MC.
Best chem professor ever....
He is really too cool, he explains very well and likes to be on time.. If u in MC for a parade or a crusade.. or whatever don't take him..
Yeah Yeah..he's good...i learned a whole loot! I like how he relates the topic to it's everyday applications. I BUSTED MY ASS FOR A B!!!!!!.but it's all good..the final is hard tho...very!
He is good??I agree, but read this.Points taken off for every significant figure??We lear math or chemistry?Home work is 10 percent to the final grade.Grading on the homework so hard that it seem likes you need to do it perfectly correct.Am i a solution book or student?Tests to kill,to failed every bodies.20 bigs calculating problems for final???
Best Prof I have ever been in a class with. Has a good sense of humor. Do your homeworks, you'll ace the tests (Test problems are not exactly the homework problems, though, but similar.) Always watch out for your significant figures.
There's good and bad. Has plenty of office hours for extra help. Teaches great. Takes off points for every MINOR mistake, doesn't curve much at all. He is a great teacher, but the class is hard. You have to be dedicated in spending a lot of time on chemistry.
Prof is great. I think chemistry is hard and he made it much clearer for me. VERY helful outside of class. VERY organized. Collects and grades homework.
Very cool chemistry teacher. CH 135 is a hard class but he made it fun and easy for us. He helps a lot outside of class and makes the long and boring labs easier and fun. If you are able to do all the problems in the tests, final will be a piece of cake for you.
THe best professor ever! Loves to teach and it's obvious. If you hate chemistry that will change if you take it with Mintz!
THe best professor ever! Loves to teach and it's obvious. If you hate chemistry that will change if you take it with Mintz!
very good teacher; but tests are hard; requires a lot of your time; be prepared to work really hard in this class; no joke!!!
Great Chem teacher for a tough class. Has tons of office hours and grades very fairly. Assigns a lot of hw but helps for tests. Read text, do the hw, and go in for help and you should do fine in class
Mintz is a very good teacher...may be one of the greatest at MC. Always available at anytime..he has lot of office hours and is available after class...even on sunday....he replies to emails quickly even after 11pm...his tests are a bit challenging, but if u work hard(hwks and lab reports on time and well done), u can ace this class...
good prof.
He is really good teacher. If u r not good in chem, u will be good. if u dont like chem u will love it. he teaches until u get it. has review sections before every tests. best proff i have ever had. take him. u will learn alot. he is very helpful with great office hours.
He is an excellent teacher...just pay attention in class and make sure you show up and you will be able to get a good grade!
he's a really nice guy. i was joking when i said he's hot. but seriously you will enjoy his class. good luck
The most dedicated prof you can ever have. He spends long hours at school/in office for his students. He can be flexible with times in which you turn in homework. Very understanding. Tells the greatest stories/jokes for fun in relation to a subject. Offers test review before each test. Volunteers to do final exam review! Very organized and prompt!
i had him over the summer during this program i was in. he's a great teacher overall. unfortunately, i sucked at chemistry even though i took it in high school. the math part of it all was very confusing, but he'd help me understand it everytime. that's was pretty cool of him to do.
Hands down the best chem teacher. Dedicated, helpful, loves his job. Warning: Unless you are an ace at chemistry, I strongly recommend taking chem100A with Miller first. She will prepare you well for this class. Chem101 is a difficult class that requires attendance and lots of work but with a great teacher like Mintz you will be successful.
Awsome Professor!! I recommend you register for Mintz's class if you're taking Chemistry 101. He is the best chemistry professor at MC. He's dedicated, available for help, reasonable, and crystal clear on his lectures. If you take notes, pay attention in class, and study for exams you'll get an easy A.
Prof. Mintz is an amazing teacher and individual. Organized in lecture and prompt and fair when grading assignments. Review sessions before tests. An extremely dedicated teacher who cares about his students' success and loves to answer students' questions. Spent his whole weekend before the final helping students prepare. I'd highly recommend him.
One of the best professors i ve ever had.He is very very knowledgeable and always available to help students. Beware even though he is really helpful and knowledgeable, the class is fast paced so you have to work hard. he repeats his tests so ask for previous tests from a peer. that will help your cause. Highly Highly recommended.
There's good and bad. Very dedicated teacher. Held review sessions prior to tests. Extremely helpful with good office hours. Can be a picky grader especially with sig figs. The tests were too long to finish in such a short time. If you are in his class to learn then you are in the right place but if you are there to get a good grade then you're not
Incredibly dedicated & always fair. Awesome & enthusiastic professor. Clearly loves teaching. Always gives extra help when needed as long as you aren't slacking off. If you put forth a conscious effort towards the course & still don't understand he ALWAYS helps you until its clear for you. Always finds a way 2 b available for those need him! A++++
He's a cool teacher! He teaches thoroughly, and takes time to explain things to you. Even though when i took his class for CH135, it was a fast paced class, but thats how CH135 is, the class is hard, its not him. I can imagine he's a breeze in slower paced classes. Definitely do your hw,they're helpful, watch out for sig figs. Take him! TAKE HIM
He is a very nice person, however a SIG FIG FREAK! your labs have to be close to prefect when it comes to calculations he will take off ALOT of points for sig figs.. its almost imposibble to get a prefect on a lab because of him being so OCD over sig figs.
Many people on campus asked me if Professor Mintz is a good professor, and I simply replied with "take his class." I shall do the same to whoever is reading this and deciding on whether or not to take his class...TAKE HIS CLASS! He is extremely helpful IF you take the initiative to ask for his help. CH135 was hard, but only because its so fast paced
Prof. Mintz is very thorough and will not move from a topic unless everyone understands which is good, but can drag class on a little long. CH100 isn't a tough course, but he makes learning it a breeze. Highly recommended.
If you are looking to learn and have some fun while you do it, take his class. He will be there for you in case that you need him, but you have to do your work. Don't forget to learn your sig figs.
Prof. Mintz is awesome. My gf and I took him last semester and we learned more with him than our ch 101 course at UMBC. He has so much knowledge of chem and physics and throws in great info pertaining to current life and history. HiGhly recommended. Do your work and you will do great!
Awsome! Nice, and very helpful. He explanations are extremely clear. I wish he was teaching CH102. Very good. Highly recommended
He is really good, extremely helpful :).
Very helpful, easiest teacher on grading if you do your work and show up. Very flexible with grading on tests which is very hard to find in Chemistry. Take his class before it fills up, you will not regret it. He is your best shot at getting an A in Chemistry and actually understand and enjoy it while doing so.
Abner is awesome. I could imagine hanging out with the guy if it weren't for the awkward student-teacher relationship. He's a geek (like me) and drops D & D references into instruction from time to time. Tons of office hours. Gives great, relatable examples. You can tell he cares about Chemistry beyond it being his job.
Professor Mintz is a truly great professor. He is wonderful in lecture, has lots of office hours, and is always willing to do whatever it takes to teach a student the material. He tests only on what he covered in lecture. You should definitely take Professor Mintz's class.
Mintz is awesome. He loves chemistry, and he shares that love of chemistry with all his students. He is the best teacher I have ever had.
Very smart professor. Dr Mintz knows how to teach and he knows how to make it fun. Expect to work hard if you aren't already a Chemistry wiz. B is very attainable but make sure not to miss any homework/labs/tests because that bit me in the end. Highly suggested if you want to learn the material.
Great professor!! Take the class, and do the work. The only reason you should fail CH135 is because of the pace! He is a great professor!
Certainly one of the best professors at MC. Explains very clearly, so much so that I never needed to open the textbook for anything other than the homework. Don't miss class and hand in all the assignments and you should do well on the exams. Easy B if your a decent student, easy A if your slightly better.
Great professor. I was in his office more than I was in his class sometimes. I took CH 135 so that I could get chemistry over with, and I struggled mightily. I still found a way to walk away with a B. He is a great teacher, lives to teach, but he is pretty strict with his policies. Super nerdy, but great teacher. Love professor Mintz!
Best professor ever!!! He is so wonderful and dedicated to making sure you understand everything. He is so passionate and thorough about Chemistry and he is just brilliant. If you have to take Chemistry, def take him! Just pay attention in class and take notes, but he is so willing to help you and explain everything to you.
Best Chemistry professor ever!! Honestly, I hate Chemistry, but Mr. Mintz made it a little more acceptable for me. I made a lot of progress thanks to him! He's awesome.
Professor Mintz is great! He made chemistry much more understandable and enjoyable to learn. And he was always willing to help students out. Do all the worksheets and homework and go to the review sessions, and you'll definitely get a good grade!
I took CH135 with Mintz. I'm reading these other ratings and I can't imagine anything further from the truth. Mintz is a good guy and all, but be prepared to fail and/or drop the class. His grading system is the stupidest I've ever seen. He grades in 1/8 points. His tests are stupid hard. He gives you about 2/3 the time needed to take his tests.
Professor Mintz is an outstanding teacher! He is always willing and able to help and teaches Chemistry in a way that is practical and easy to understand. Attend his class, do the homework (very important), and study for the exams and you will do well!
You will need to work in his class, but an amazing professor! Cares a lot for his students and invests lots of office hours, be sure to use them! If you pay attention in class and do the hw, you will have no problem passing the class even with its rigor!
Boring lectures. Tedious. Do homework and you'll do okay.
an awesome professor
nice professor. If you want to receive an A, attend classes, take notes, and do the homework.
If you do (most of) the homework. you will pass.
A great professor, and can help you pass if you put an effort. However, chem 135 is very hard and lots of work. There are 6 tests, 18 homework. A lab report and pre-lab every week. Tests are hard and he gives you half the time you need to finish. Most likely you end up having a question or 2 that you didn't have time to do. Take chem 131 instead
If you put in the effort and actually study and prepare for the labs, you could end up with an A, if not a B. Tests are alright, as long as you study your notes, you'll do fine. I wasn't much of a sciencechem fan heading into the class, but I actually learned a lot and very much enjoyed the class. Again, try your best and you might enjoy the class
Honestly one of the best professors I have ever had in my time at montgomery college. Professor Mintz is hilarious, a kind person, and always there to help. As someone with no prior chemistry experience, the class was difficult at times. He helped me many times and was very understanding. His class well prepared me for chem 131
He is very helpful answers any question you have. He is one of the best professors I had.
This is by far the best Chemistry professor I've ever had! He is a must take for anyone considering chem as a class andor career. He explains everything so well, and he'll slow down to make sure everyone understands the material. He knows exactly what he's doing at all times! I will really miss his class, his witty and "failed" jokes lol.
One of the best professors I've had. Has office hours everyday and always goes the extra mile to make sure that he is accessible to his students. He is an easy going, approachable person, and his genuine interest in the topics covered shines through in his lectures. I could go on and on but, 350 characters doesn't do professor Mintz justice. 1110.
Professor Mintz is a tough grader but somewhat fair!!! His lectures are great! But try not to miss any class! He goes fast through the chapters! Make notes of the exercises in class. It is most likely to be on the test! Try to show up for the review sections, they are really helpful! He has many office hours! Use it!
Took different types of chemistry classes(Hon chem, AP chem, Orgo) in my life and Professor Mintz it by far one of the best chemistry teachers out there. Attend all his lectures and ask questions when you need to. He is very helping during lab. He also always gives feedback on any work he returns to you. I'm expecting to get an A in his class.
Great at explaining tough concepts
Tough class. Hes clear but expects alot.
He is the most amazing and competent chemistry professor at montgomery college (Unfortunately I've gone through various chem teachers). He is fair on tests and lab reports. As long as you put the work in , don't miss class and take this class seriously you will definitely get an A. He is literally the best chem professor ever!
One of the best Professors at Montgomery College, he puts in a lot of effort for his students to understand the material and tries to help them as much as he can. He is a fair grader and assigns problems that are akin to the ones he gives out in his Homework. If you put your best effort in he will also match you and try and make sure you pass.
Best Professor I've ever taken. Period. Gives 200% Effort when teaching. Honestly take the class with him if you get the chance, you will not regret it at all. The courses he teaches are hard but honestly Professor Mintz deserves a 5.0/5.0 rating with the amount of effort he puts into teaching students.
Professor Mintz is a very agreeable person and a nice professor, but he teaches straight out of the book. Do the homework and you will get a good grade. His tests are just like the homework. He doesn't add any extra insight. Lectures are boring.
He's just the G.O.A.T. take this man and you'll definitely learn a lot from him. Even if it's hard you'll still absorb the information he tells you. Test's were hard sometimes but hey its chem 135. Highly recommend.
THE BEST TEACHER AT MONTGOMERY COLLEGE. I REPEAT, HE IS THE BEST TEACHER (OF ANY SUBJECT) AT MONTGOMERY COLLEGE. Literally made chemistry a joy for my class. No teacher i've ever had has put as much time and effort into teaching as he does. He will change the way you look at chemistry completely. TAKE HIM.
Best teacher i've had so far, changed the subject of chemistry that I really disliked and managed to make it one that I now enjoy. Teaches in a way that makes the material very interesting, especially with the way he gives real life examples. Lots of material so make sure you go to class every time. Take this teacher!!
Great choice, but you better be serious. kind, funny, and really knows his stuff. not an easy grader and the tests vary between hard and very hard. you better read the chapters before lectures, but available outside of class if you need help. he's definitely one of the best chem professors I've had.
Prof Mintz is actually the greatest prof of all time. He's incredibly dedicated to his students, his lectures are spot on, and he's got the geekiest sense of humor. Anyone taking him should feel lucky to have such a five star teacher to learn from.
CHEM135 the DEATH CLASS, but my suffering was pretty bearable! For such complex &confusing information, Mintz explains it quite well. It's hard to cram so much into one semester, but he's as reasonable as possible about it. He makes a good number nerdy/punny jokes, just go with it. And DO THE HOMEWORK-- not just for points, it's v. good practice!
The semester isn't over, but I can say this man is the best. 5 /5 rating. He is just super great and available outside class, which is a huge PLUS. I wish all prof were as good as he is.
Great teacher. Puts in a ton of extra effort to help students. Hard class but hes a huge help
If you think that calculators are faster problem solvers, you might be wrong. Take Dr. Mintz class and you will see a real super human, he can solve the problems in his head faster than a calculator. He is the best prof ever. I have been going to his office hours many-many times, and he never put me down. If you need help, he is there for you!
Oh my God, I can't use words to express how amazing this professor is. You just have to take him and see for yourself. I have never had a teacher who devotes his life for his students. This man truly deserves an Award from the school or something... He masters TEACHING. he is so in love with his Job. 5 Infinity/5 rating. He is justwowowowowowowow.
Professor Mintz is an amazing! I would definitely recommend him to anyone for chemistry. He gives extra credit points in class and on the test. He makes difficult concepts easier to understand and he's really devoted to making sure you understand the material.
Don't be late or absent homework due the next meeting after each chapter Prelab required before Lab session After Lab, Lab report due next lab session If you can do the homework, you can do the quiz. merciful when grading Chemistry jokes He tells you what you need to remember Rounds up your grade, that's why I got an A. Review sessions before quiz
Professor Mintz is a phenomenal teacher. I have never had a professor put in the amount of work, time, and effort that he does. Not only is he passionate but he is knowledgeable about the material and provides many real-life examples. I wish every teacher would put in the work that he does. He makes other teachers look lazy.
Mintz is caring, a real chemistry wiz, and a goofy but highly respectable guy. He always goes the extra mile to make sure everyone understands the material he is teaching. He has multiple extra credit opportunities. Make sure you know your sig fig rules. He loves teaching and it shows in all of his lectures. Be prepared for the cheesy chem jokes!
He's a very nice prof. His way of teaching is very hard to understand because he speaks too fast. He gives HW every class. His test are hard and he's not really engaging. Save yourself a headache and frustration. Don't take his class.
Prof. Mintz deserves a 6/5 rating, however, I don't recommend CHEM 135. He talks fast, but he has to in order to cover all the concepts. This class is incredibly hard b/c there's way too much important info to completely understand in a semester. FYI, almost half the class dropped CHEM135.
I dont know where to start, but Professor Mintz has all you need in a professor ! You just cant have an excuse to blame him if you dont pass this class! Because he gives you everything you need to pass! He is the sweetest!:) take a class with him and you will not regret it! He is himself and I love that about him!:) I have to cut his short:(
Mintz is like the Messiah of Chem. Beware thoe, it's Chem for "engineers". What I mean is that if you don't have that mindset of an engineer, the ones who spend most their nights/day studying all the times then, of course, its hard. If your an incoming college student with not a strong math or study habit, make sure you build on B4 this course.
10/10! If you take his class, you will absolutely not regret it. He is a genuinely caring and extremely patient professor. Can basically explain even the most complex concepts in the easiest ways. You will have a great time in his class, even if you aren't remotely interested in Chemistry. Definitely go to his office hours if you need any help.
He is the BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE HIM!!! He is funny, caring, smart, kind, friendly, thoughtful, and sweet!!!! Ask him thousand questions, he's gonna answer every qeustion. He is a total sweetheart. And he grades generously! I wish I could take him again but he only teaches general chem...... :'( Mintz for Organic Chem!!!!
Awesome professor! The best chem instructor that I have ever had. Chem 135 is a tough class, if you think you cant write long lab reports every week and do the homework on time do not take chem 135, but if you decide to take it take with prof Mintz you wont regret it. He is pretty merciful while grading.
Prof. Mintz goes beyond his efforts to make you understand the lesson. He always will to help students outside the class. Organizes review section to cover thinks that students have issue with. This class was a little bit challenging I guess because it was accelerated 099 & 131
Passionate about teaching. Would take points off your late lab report or homework rather than rejecting. Very patient . Non native speakers can enjoy his lectures easily
135 131+132, this is a heavy course (both lecture and lab (nasty)). However, he is a lenient and comfortable prof. He made the textbook become redundant. Just record all things in class, practice hw completely, and follow his guidance in labs, you will be fine. Again, prepare a strong energy for this class and consider other classes b/c of 2 in 1
Exceptional! Explains everything thoroughly, even made lecture videos for each chapter which were superior to the book. HWs really help and get you prepared for the exam. It's a lot of content, but he puts in so much effort to make sure you succeed if you work for it. He appreciates participation and it helps you learn and stay focused if you do.
Really great professor. Added lots of interesting details about the lectures that showed that he really enjoys the subject.
CHEM 135 is downright a difficult course as it is a combination of CHEM 131 and CHEM 132, but Professor Mintz is an outstanding professor who makes the course a lot more bearable. Professor Mintz is easily accessible outside of class and provides students with plenty of resources for them to use if they're having trouble with the course.
The best there was, the best there is, the best there will be. Professor Mintz is a gem of a person.
CHEM135 is an accelerated class. If you want anyone to be your professor, it's Professor Mintz. He is caring, reasonable and lenient with grading. he provides Homework for each chapter which you must do to do well on tests. He provides more resources if you are not confident after the homework. Sadly, starting spring of 2022 he won't teach CHEM135
I have no word to express how grateful I am to be his student I spent almost 20+ year in school but I have never seen any professor who dedicate his life for what he is doing. he provided video recordings for the lectures and for the Lab which makes it easier for students to go back and see what they don't understand.
Best professor I've ever had. This class is super tough but its so much more bearable with Mintz. Memorizes all his lectures and every little detail. Seriously a GENIUS, can't believe he spends his time teaching and does it so well. I was very upset when this class ended so soon. Going to miss being in this class.
Chemistry can be a very scary subject for students to encounter, but Dr. Mintz provides a different experience. He makes students very excited to learn Chemistry which is like a once in a lifetime experience. He always makes sure that no student falls behind, and he is always very lenient with grading. Best Chemistry professor, 100% recommend!
Abner Mintz is the greatest teacher I have ever had. Whatever they are paying him is not enough. The dedication he shows to ensuring you understand the material is honestly insane. Chem 135 would be an absolute nightmare with an average professor. Mintz makes it not only bearable but totally aceable if you put in the effort.
Abner Mintz is a fantastic teacher. He gives excellent examples and explains things well. He posts videos of his lectures online and is willing to help students during office hours. He is kind and caring to his students. The one thing is that sometimes his class can get fast-paced, and he does not slow down even if most students are drawing blanks.
Best chemistry professor I have ever had. His lectures cover all material for tests. If you can do the problems on the homework correctly, you will get an A on all tests. Get the ACS book. He is super easy to contact by email and during office hours. He adds stories to help you learn the concepts and he teaches very well. Thank you Professor Mintz!
He is a great professor! he gives homework packets that are extremely helpful!!! do them and if you do okay, you're set for the exams. He gives answer keys after grading homework's which are so helpful. his exams come from his hw packets and gives an extra credit question on every exam. pay attention and memorize what he tells you and youll be fine
WOW!! Prof. Mintz is an absolute sweet angel, and his lectures are insanely good! He really cares so much about his students and gives extra credit. He always offers me to come to his office hours if I ever need help. If you take him, DONT take advantage of his kindness please. Wish I could take him again. Tells stories during class, which are good
Great teacher but tries to teach the class way too fast.
Amazing professor. He is very thorough with all material you get lots of practice in class and in homework. He has extra credit in assignments and always on tests. Sometimes it can be lecture heavy, but it's not bad at all. He is the most organized professor I ever met which really helps to know all topics you are learning and what your grade is.
I think Prof. Mintz is a really good professor, but sometimes he overestimates the ability of students and assumes you remember all material. He has 4 tests, gave extra credit on each test, but I felt as his homework problems and labs were sometimes a nightmare to do since it was like 20 questions each week. This class requires definite effort.
Worst prof at MC. These ratings fooled me. He talks SO much and SO fast and expects us to remember every single thing he says. The tests were horrible. This class made me horribly depressed. Most chem 99 people took the class just to get a general understanding of chem but he taught us as if we were 131 students.
Nice but his class requires A LOT of work. Homework was about 25 problems with 4 parts each so really 100 problems. Requiring HOURS to do. Lab reports were really tedious and time consuming. He talks VERY fast and refuses to slow down. No powerpoints, prerecorded videos where he works examples. Exams are difficult, he curved first 2.
Professor Mintz was an exceptional professor who truly cared about his students. His lectures were very straightforward, the material was taught in a very organized manner, and homework and quizzes directly reflected that. He even has videos for each section that covers all the content he teaches in person. I plan on taking his class again in 131.
Prof. Mintz makes chem fun and accessible. Lectures are engaging, and he's always willing to help. Unstuck Study AI was a lifesaver for exam prep alongside the free textbook. Highly recommend!
Seriously the best teacher I've ever had. You never feel like you need to study extra with him, his workload is perfectly rigorous. if you genuinely do the work you'll excel in his exams (which can be a little hard sometimes). He inspires you to do better, his lectures and videos are a delight. Unfortunately I won't have him this semester. The GOAT
Exams are extremely hard, takes off points for small things, be ready to barley finish ur exams on time. Hw's are long which he grades harshly along w your pre labs. Honestly, you can find a better professor that's lower maintenance and still perform well. If you're already good at chem; Take him! But if you struggle, find another prof.
I'm really happy I took this class. Professor Mintz is very kind and respectful. He replies to emails quickly and is very organized. He graded everything on time and explained the material very well. However, you do need to study to do well in this class. I will definitely take more classes with him in the future. Overall, I highly recommend him!
Professor Mintz is just an amazing person, and he's always willing to help you. He is a great organizer with this class. Exams are tough; all you have to do is put as much effort as you can into this class. If you enjoy chemistry, it is for you; on the other hand, if you don't like chemistry, but it is a requirement for your major, good luck :)
Chem 132 is a heavy course.
Professor Mintz is very helpful and clear. Beware that attendance is part of your grade, but he uploads his lectures online so you never miss content. He is a tough grader, down to deductions on significant figures. Barely any extra credit on exams, and his HW also takes hours to do. However, if you can handle the workload, he is one of the best!
Professor Mintz had really great reviews on here, which is why I decided to take his Chem 132 class. However, Professor Mintz is an extremely tough grader (taking off half points or full points for minor mistakes), he grades the homework (12+ pages) on accuracy, he does not give any equations on tests, and he does not adapt to his students' needs.
CHEM132 is a fast-paced course but as long as you do the homeworks + the quizzes, study decently and ask him for help (he is always ready to respond), you can easily earn an A.
