This is my favorite teacher ever. whoever wrote he is scatterbrained is ovbiously just too stupid to understand him. Professor Rutchick is cool enough to hang out with and also very pationate about the material he teaches. Dont expect very easy tests in his class you actually have to study. I reccomend this teacher to everyone.

The class was really interesting and the professor is very helpful and fair.

Abe was great. Very enthusiastic about the subject, and is helpfull to students that show-up. If you don't go to class you can fall behind. If anyone complains about this guy, than they're either not attending enough classes or not very bright.

i knew nothing about social psych coming into this class. he is very passionate about it and is incredibly smart. he gives of his time freely to those who want it and will use it. his class is not easy, but that is the material and understanding it in general. he is warm hearted and will do what he can to help his students to the end. A++

I HAVE HAD GOOD AND WORSE TEACHERS. HE IS NEITHER GOOD OR BAD. HE HAS SOME FLAWS. HE WILL LEAVE OUR THE CENTRAL THEMES DISCUSSED IN THE BOOK AND TEST YOU ON TRIVIAL THINGS. HE WILL MAKE THE TEST EXTREMELY TRICKY SO THAT EVEN IF YOU KNOW THE MATERIAL YOU MAY END UP WITH A B OR A C IN THE CLASS.

Rutchick is my favorite professor to date. Been studying psychology for 4 years now and havent had this much fun in class! Being penalized for not showing up to class... on tests?! No wonder! Good students will enjoy this professor, and have alot of fun while learning.

i disagree with the negative comments. Rutchick is one of the best professors in the psychology department. he is very witty, he is confident, he is fair and understanding.

He is very enthusiastic and you can tell he loves to teach. Sometimes he stutters and gets a little ahead of himself, but he is always more than willing to explain a topic until everyone gets it.I can see how his teaching style isnt for everyone, but he made the topics interesting and I learned something from the class. I would take him again.

Excellent professor. Enjoys teaching. A little over energetic sometimes and he can be a wiseass but overall one of the better professors on campus. The class is worth it, the tests are NOT hard or tricky if you pay attention in class. If you want a free ride, don't take this class. I got a lot out of it.

He is an entertaining and funny professor making showing up worth it. The problem was about having way too much work and I felt spread thin...5 Exams, 3 research projects + 3 APA papers.Poster presentations, online stuff + final essays (you will learn about cognitive load).

Best teacher I've had so far.He can't make the material more simple. The tests are straight forward and if you read the lecture slides he puts online, you'll get an A. He's very helpful and will go over any questions you may have. He does a LOT of research and is very familiar with the field he is in.

He is the best teacher I have had at CSUN! I didn't get the best grade, but that was my fault. I actually really enjoyed the class and if you study like you should, it should be a breeze!

great professor

Class consists of: 3 short answer tests, 10 questions long, and an online group project. The lab does not exist next semester so less work for you. Even though class was at 8am he was still full of energy and interesting. He requires no text, just a few articles he posts on moodle along with the class notes. I would take another class him.

Awesome professor. No books to read, only optional psych papers. He talks a little fast sometimes, but makes class extremely fun. If you plan on going into social psych, take him. He is goofy, and he is inspiring. The way he thinks about research kind of makes you want to do research too. Class was fairly easy, just pay attention.

Had him as a team-teacher with Malmberg...interesting dynamic between the two. Rutchick is very funny and enjoys what he does. Helpful in making concepts understandable if you are having a hard time--just be sure to ask for help.

Team-taught with Malmberg; the two had an interesting dynamic and teaching style. I enjoyed the strait forward lectures with powerpoint slides that are later available on moodle. Really helpful if you ask for it. Rutchick really enjoys what he does, and it shows and makes all the difference.

Class material is relevant and thought-provoking-- I talk about it all the time at home (geek alert). No textbook, just scientific articles. Not an easy A but if you go to class you should get a B easily. super cute and friendly prof:-)

Good teacher, class is a bit boring but pay attention to reading the book and studying on your own, class can be difficult.

The information is so relevent to anyones life and the teacher is HILARIOUS. He is one of the most entertaining teachers I have ever had! Im serious!!

When i took this class it was taught by both him and malmberg (a tag team ordeal). i LOVED him, he was funny and entertaining and he could get concepts to stick into your brain with his jokes and visuals. But i did notice it was harder to learn from him in comparison to malmberg. GREAT PROFESSOR though, an A is very do able!

Okay, the person below me needs to relax a bit. Yes, tests can get a little confusing, but it's only because he wants you to think for yourself and really absorb the material. He is really helpful. He responds to his emails really quick! Come to class and pay attention to lectures! No textbook but do read research articles. Enthusiastic teacher! :)

Honestly a really nice guy, tries his best to make sure everyone understands whats going on and will repeat anything he needs to. Always willing to help out in his office hours and truly wants everyone to good. He's hilarious and excels and keeping the class interesting.

stay away!!!! I got a C in this class, can not believe it. He wants students to think outside of the box for examination, tests are confusing. Extremely charming but BEWARE his exams are very tough.

He is a great teacher, very interesting and knows alot. However, this course (479) was a waste of time. It was the same stuff we learned in regular social psych (345) plus a ridiculously stressfull final project. If you are thinking about taking this capstone (and have already taken 345) I recomend you take something else. Cool guy, but bad class.

Without a doubt my favorite teacher at CSUN. He keeps his lectures interesting, and he talks with so much energy it was hard not to pay attention to him. The final project was a bit stressful, but if you compare it to the amount of work you have to do in other captsones, its not that bad. no textbook, or exams. Just weekly online articles to read.

Really fun class, and clear lectures! If you take him you HAVE to study THOROUGHLY, his exams are short answer & can be tough if you don't study well enough - you have to understand the material because he expects your answers to be concise. His grading is tough. I learned a lot in the course & recommend him 2 those who AREN'T SLACKERS.

AWESOME PROFESSOR. He's very intelligent & knows how to keep you interested in lecture. 8am classes aren't cool, but he finds a way to make this interesting. Very funny guy. Young & knows how to relate to students. Exams are written, every 2 weeks. 3 papers total. DO NOT GET TEXTBOOK. Everything is lecture based. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

One of the best professors that I have had. He makes this class very interesting, he's hilarious. As long as you pay attention and take basic notes you will do great in this class.

Professor Rutchick uses personal experiences and examples that students can relate to, to help students understand the concepts. Offers extra credit. Term papers and 7 tests. The book is optional but come to class because the tests are based solely off of lecture. Must understand concepts and theory, not just memorization. Highly recommend!!

His tests are all written responses; slightly difficult. He is very reasonable, funny, and can talk fast when he gets excited over the topic. He makes the topic understandable in real-world contexts. Attend class, take good notes, ask questions, and do all assignments - you should be golden.

Honestly, he is so smart its ridiculous. Yes the class is hard, yes the final project is stressful but you can do it if YOU want too. He answers emails very quick and makes so much effort to help his students. yes he is energetic but its entertaining and the class is worth it. Best psych teacher yet. Really takes the time to know your name too!

AMAZING TEACHER! He incorporates real world situations to his concepts. I took his class at 8am and it was no problem for me to want to come to class, because he made it fun and awesome! He will show video clips that actually keep me interested, and he's very smart and funny!

Very energetic, very knowledgeable, and very helpful. The final project is hard, but Dr. Rutchick will help you every step of the way as you work on it throughout the semester. It's rare to find a professor that responds this quickly to email and genuinely cares about the needs of his students.

An excellent professor, PSY 150 was one of my favorite classes by far. He makes lecture interesting yet educational. Listen to his lectures and you'll do fine.

Great class! super interesting and very informative. Book is good for test review. take good notes on the lecture, participate and study well. 4 tests and a project. Would definitely rccommend to all!

I LOVED this professor. He has some very original teaching techniques that I won't disclose but just trust him. He loves what he does and you can feel it in his lectures. I was never bored and wanted to learn the information. BEST teacher!! (I didn't use the textbook and got an A)

Exams were all lecture based, don't need the book. He's great! Lectures are so captivating, and so is he ;) I actually looked forward to come to his class. Highly recommend! Looking into social psych now!!

He is the best professor. Tests were thought provoking, and lectures were wonderful. He is by far someone who cares about what he does, and someone that every student should take. He is enthusiastic about the subject and cares and understands students. His class is large, and somehow he is able to remember names and include all.

Love professor rutchick! Actually learned a lot from his class. Tests are all short answer but learned a lot this way. Go to class and pay attention a lot . Book is pointless unless you need clarity.

Made class fun and interesting but I HATED his tests. They were written, (a word or a sentence were ok to write) which meant it leaves alot of room for interpretation and misunderstanding. The class was easy overall, but i really HATED his tests.One paper (2 pages) and a few EC opportunities

GREAT teacher, smart, witty guy, approachable, energetic teaching style. Pretty much everything u want in a good teacher. You actually want to go to class and feel bad if you miss! Downside- entire class is graded on group work which can be challenging BUT only 3 major projects & beats cramming for exams or doing lots of reading.

He is a great professor you have quizzes which are unannounced therefore you have to show up to class. However, they are open notes and has two papers over the semester and a final. Take this professor you will not regret it!

LOVE Rutchick! Social psychology was so fun to learn from him. He does have random quizzams (quizzes / exams) but they're from previous notes in class. He gives you the book for free online. 2 papers that are fun to write and can receive extra credit. Highly recommend this professor!

He's extremely smart, hilarious, chooses really interesting topics to teach and really gets students to think. Has pop quizzes but allows book notes, don't have to read the text book, just go to class and learn from him because he has great incredible lectures. I absolutely would take him again. Plus, he's eye candy and has a cute laugh.

Rutchick is awesome. 2 papers, a few UNANNOUNCED quizzes (so you have to go to every class) & drops lowest 2. Cumulative final which is kind of difficult but if you study notes throughout the semester & do a detailed study guide, you'll be fine. This class is not the easiest but he makes it interesting, funny, & worthwhile. TAKE HIM FOR THIS CLASS.

He's very funny, so it helps when you're learning about something as dry as social psych (I'm a psych major, but I'm not gonna lie about what I think of social psych). He tells you at the beginning of the semester about the quizzes, but not when they are, so you do have to show up. Overall, he's great. He does talk fast, so pay attention.

By Far one of my favorite professors! Very enthusiastic and passionate about the subject. He cares about student success after graduation, which is awesome and rare! The class was all group work and projects, which I personally enjoyed. No book and no need to take notes, but go to class for participation and just because it's interesting.

Professor Rutchick is caring, his class was not an easy one though. He does give quizzes, but they are open notes. Assigns a few papers throughout the semester, but they are relatively easy and interesting. I enjoyed this class and learned a lot from it, i would take him again.

I LOVE HIM!!Rutchick is hands down my favorite professor at CSUN. I used to hate social psych but because of him, I am going to take my CAP stone in social psych as well. He makes lectures so much fun. His tests are actually called "quizams" b/c they are like pop quizzes but are the only tests for the class, consisting of 10 multiple choice ques.

He is very clear about grading. There are unannounced quizzes that are called Quizam. Theres a Social paper which wasnt that hard. Extra credit opportunity. He does speak fast so pay attention closely. Review notes through out the semester it will help you for the final. Overall, he is a good professor and funny too!

Professor Rutchick's course for Social Psych was great! His lectures are really fun and energetic! He aims for free books and the NOBA was really helpful. Short pop quizzes named quizams, which are good and challenging to make sure you are learning the material. Show up to class, midterm short essay, extra credit, final longer essay. Good stuff!

I wish I could have taken this class in a full semester because there was a lot of good knowledge to learn but online it was very fast -paced and it moved fast. There was a lot of reading but great TED Talks to learn from and he had webcasts as lectures and it was a great class overall.

there is a paper (really easy super fun), quizams (toughest part of course they are five questions that are from the lecture (don't miss class) given at random days), weekly content checks (based off the readings get two try's to take them) , and a final paper. the class was really fun your going to love a specific sections more than others.

All you have to do is take good notes and 10 min before class review them and that should be enough to get good scores on the pop quizzes. Every week there is a 10 question content check where u can basically search up the answers. There is also 1 essay and a final mini essay where you can use a cheat sheet. Plus he offers a bunch of xc. Nice class

He is funny and makes class fun! His homework is easy, some you just have to take a survey and thats it. His exams were easy as well if you take good notes on his lectures. There is one paper for the semester but it's about two pages so it wasn't too bad. I wrote about how social psychology applies to the pandemic happening today.

I extremely thankful to have him Dr. Rutchick as my Professor, and during COVID. He is very passionate about the topics, and quite hilarious. It is very easy to remember topics with how he presents them. Offers plenty of EC, and is extremely responsive to emails/canvas. There is one paper that has clear grading. Overall, very happy to have him

One of the best professors you'll ever take. Incredibly passionate, insightful, and caring. Cares about his students' success, even with huge classes. Makes material super relatable and easy to understand. Pay attention to easily pass. "Quizams" w/ 3-5 Qs every other-ish week. One or two papers. A final essay exam with lots of options that're fun.

Enthusiastic and kind professor. He has guest speakers which Make classes interesting. No hw, 5 papers which are very, just put effort. interesting class that makes you engage with studies/experiments. Learned a lot and found it super relevant during cover time. Technology and sociology will never go away.

Easy-going professor. His lectures provide a lot of background information and examples to help you connect concepts to everyday life. Can be a bit disorganized and you'll likely get a lot of notifications through canvas about assignment due dates shifting and the assignments themselves being modified.

A really really cool class to take for my capstone. He's hilarious and engaging, and includes a lot of awesome guest speakers. Topics covered are so interesting. Really long paper due at the end (5 papers put together) but other than that very easy class. Would take again!

He is the only professor that has been able to fully command my attention during zoom classes, closely followed by Dr. Drew. He is charismatic, knowledgeable, and not uptight at all. Lectures are recorded but I highly recommend tuning into them for your own enjoyment. Make sure to study well for his exams.

No cost pdf textbook. Lots of opportunities to earn points. short weekly readings + weekly quiz. 1 short paper. Exams make you think. Tip- study + take notes on the examples he gives during lectures, they are usually the ones they end up on the tests. Great class learned a lot- Must take!

Its a gaming class so you better like games (video games, board games, card games, etc). He doesnt require a specific book but you do need access to a general psy book at least for concepts. Only required to play 8/12 games and write 6/8 papers about the games played. Pretty chill class. Guests every week and 1 question for every guest required.

He's a really relaxed professor. He's super understanding and has a lot of patience, don't take advantage. He doesn't grade anything until after the semester is over so if you get worried about your grade go to office hours or email him. There was over 200 students in my class, so don't expect any hand holding.

Dr. Rutchick was a pretty good professor, had weekly lectures and a weekly "podcast" for the second day. Assignments aren't too bad, and he doesn't assign that many.

Dr. Rutchick is a good professor! It's better if you take in person than online. It has knowledge checks, questions for guestspeakers, 2 social media posts w/ summaries, and deepdive (4+pgs) all in a portfolio, and a 3-min presentation at the end. This class was a perfect balance of easy and hard as this class is a good introduction to the 400level

I love this professor. He needs some work for sure with organization and structure of the class. It's very open to interpretation. Interesting lectures. You have to gage how you're doing yourself bc he doesn't grade until the end. I found him very funny/kind. The work is doable. Be prepared to WRITE though bc this whole class is essay heavy.

I took this class because I passionate about games, I recommend this class for anyone who feels the same. In my online course, there were 5 units and 15 2 double spaced papers in total and a final game design. This class was so fun and the Professor was great. This class is not too much work for a 400, and is generally so insightful. 10/10

Really cool class and professor! Don't use any type of AI because he will fail you!! The class was really fun but it is lots of reading and writing which is expected in an upper level class, but honestly one of the easiest classes I've taken.

its a writing course. There are 5 units and you have to write about 3 2-page papers for each unit. It may seem like a lot of writing but if you start working on it early and don't procrastinate its easy. I worked on about a few papers a week and finished in just about 2 months. Keep in mind you have the entire semester to work on these papers....

I took the social psychology and emerging technology class with him, and I really enjoyed it. Readings and lectures were all interesting and felt relevant to what's happening with AI and other technology. Weekly papers but its only 2 pages, and the class is graded holistically so there's no strict rubrics/points.
