very smart man, without a doubt. just cant explain the material very well for people with NO philosophy backround
Great teacher to take for Logic of Everyday Reasoning. I am not sure what is wrong with everyone else who rated him but it was one of the classes that I looked foward to.
Mixed feelings. Has a repugnant philosophy and loves to argue. Has a good sense of humor, but will publically humiliate you if you cross him. Best to debate him after or before class. Best come prepared: he debates REALLY well. REALLY knows his ****.
I enjoyed arguing with him. He was smart and I enjoyed his class. You just need to keep up with the reading.
Not my favorite class, not my favorite teacher. Topics are fairly easy to understand, but don't expect everything to be made 100% clear to you in class.
decent at relating the material to others, but his personality needs improvement. very moody and full of himself. hey dr. w., as it is said -- conceit is God's gift to little men.
Until Abe, I had taken many philosophy classes and had always gotten A's. Although I wrote A- papers for his class, encouraged productive class discussion, and demonstrated a creative approach to, and understanding of the material, Abe made it HARDON me.
He is very arogant, but does everything to help you out if you try. He seems frustrating at times, but only because he's trying to make you think out of the box. I enjoyed the class, it was an easy A if you do the assignments.
I think this is one of the coolest, laid back teachers at Rowan. Yes, he can and will debate. Yes, the subject is alittle hard to understand. Yes, his grading is tough. But he is awesome. Take him.
He likes to argue a lot, and is close minded. If you have a different opinion than him, he will try to make you think he is right and you are wrong. After taking this class, I felt stupid, because he wants to show you don't know anything.
I got all A's on the papers but a C- for the semester. He's close minded and makes you think you're crazy. Take anyone else but this guy
He is the worst teacher anyone could ever have! If you have to take logic take it with anyone else but him. He is so unclear, makes you feel dumb. Don't you dare disagree with him, he think he knows everything, reality check prof, you don't know anything
Look past his below-par teaching and this isn't too taxing. Somewhat difficult readings but easy assignments. He treats the majority of his students like they are incompetent idiots (try clearly EXPLAINING the material, genius). I'd take Fleeger because h

great subject, not so great prof.
One of the best professors I've ever had. He is continually patient with students who, no matter how many ways he tries to explain it, just don't get it (it's them, not him). Philosophy is about reasoning and debate, so you should expect an argument with him. If you are rational, he's easy.
Prof Witonsky is a great teacher, for those who feel stupid after his class it is probably because you cannot open your mind to new ideas and a new rational way to think. I recomend taking this course it not easy but it helps you become a more logical and rational person in the way you see the world
He's the man! I had him in the summer and I can't stop thinking about his awesome class. Witonsky, If your listening, I love YOU.
People that complain about him are just too closed minded to the material. Thats what philosophy is about, opening up your mind. He does a great job and is a really nice guy. He plays devils advocate but thats the point of philosophy. Very smart man who doesn't give himself enough credit.
wintonsky is an awesome prof...you can't go into the class close mided or else you won't take anything away from it...he is willing to help and is very understanding
Basic class...easy A if you do what is asked of you. I really couldn't stomach the prof though...pretty irritating. You do learn a lot, so it's not a total loss.

This man changed my life and my way of thinking. If you want to find yourself thinking critically about your world and your reality take Witonski. If you want to live in ignorance for the rest of your life, don't. It's that simple.
He is probably the best prof ever and so very, very nice. I would recommend him to any and everyone.
Amazing man. Loves to see familiar faces so be sure to take him again and again. And again. Husband thinks I'm obsessed. So bald, so quirky and funny...I would have paid to listen to him read his grocery list.
he's so stubborn and close minded that it makes you want to scream. if your not a stuck up republican you will not enjoy this class.
The best thing about Abe is when he cancels classes. He is very closed minded and will argue with ANYTHING you say. If you don't like constant debates, don't take this class.
Go to class, or you will fall behind. Be prepared to be called on, he involves everyone in the class. Entertaining class as it goes by pretty fast.
I love Prof Witonsky - I take him whenever I get the chance. His classes do involve a lot of debating, but it's for a reason. He wants you to learn how to make a good, solid argument, because that's what philosophy is all about. And he loves to play devil's advocate and get you thinking. I love Abe - I've learned so much from him.
dont take him unless you plan to be there on your death bed . . . .you will fall behind and he wont care if you fail . . . and he LOVES to argue with any and every point you make
Sure it's a tough class, but what did you expect? It's logic. He does a good job of making you think, which is the point. If you meet him halfway (like come to class and try a little bit) you'll get something out of the class.
he was one of the worst professors i've ever had. He goes way to fast and gets frustrated if you don't pick up on things quickly. Don't take him unless you like feeling strssed. Oh and you can do well on all of the tests, but when finals come, if you fail the final, you fail the class..Now there's an incentive for you...
awesome teacher. loves what he teaches. students slow the class down. take him if you can handle the class.

anybody who says this class is hard is an idiot. its philosophy - you sit there and think. witonsky explains everything very thorougly and when he "argues" its so he can represent both sides. Easy papers, easy grader, gives you the questions to the midterm/final and lets you take them in a group. don't listen to other ratings
He is very good teacher. He explained things well and put a lot of effort into involving everyone by calling on them. Uses variety of hw, quizes and exams. Philosophical discussions played a minor role, but were very interesting. He doenst seem to have a personal position on anything, but lets his students influence him.
Very knowledgeable and relaxed. Uses the Socratic Method to its absolute fullest, which is how a philosophy professor should use it. Obviously opinionated (and sometimes has a sharp tongue), but encourages student responses and debate. The purpose of his class isn't simply to learn, but to really think and examine issues at every possible angle.
Makes a logic class as interesting as possible. Gives worksheets out in class and has you do them in groups and explains each problem on the board. Tests can be hard but if you study an A or B is within reach. Limited homework that really helps you with material. Missing a class can hurt your grade if you miss a key concept and have to catch up.
Logic was a pretty tough subject, but witonsky is not to blame. blame the subject not the the prof. he does a good job to make logic simple and interesting, and is very helpful. tests are kinda hard, but you have opportunity to bring up your grade with a paper/presentation. can use some notes for test. hes a great guy to talk to outside class
never took a philosophy class before but this was a great class alot of discussions and no tests. you do one final paper and a presentaion you can work with someone which is good. fun class didnt mind going to his class at all. def take him
He is a very good professor. He makes classes very interesting and his lectures are clear. If you have any interest in philosophy, you will love his class. If you don't like his class at all, philosophy is probably not your thing. My only complaint was that we had to submit essays (250-350 words) every Sunday at 1:45PM which was a bit annoying.
I love this guy! If you are interested in philosophy you will love philosophy of religion. He is super nice and he tries really hard to make everything understandable. Plus, he tries to make his class amusing.
Prof. Witonsky is SO cool. You'll get involved in this class by studying different arguments and deciding whether or not they make any sense. He'll challenge your viewpoints no matter what they are, but it's to make you a better thinker and he never makes you feel bad or stupid, just makes you want to try harder. TAKE THIS GUY'S CLASS.
I did not like him at all. I took him for introduction to philosophy and he was hard. Some people succeeded but I did not because I am not an expert at philosophy nor am I in love with it. He actually made me hate philosophy. I wouldn't recommend taking him because hes hard. You also have to write a big paper on a chapter of a philosophy book. ugh.
He goes into a lot of detail and goes back to everything more then once. He lets you take test in groups so you be able to do good. The final is the only thing you can't take in a group but the final is based on the first 2 exams so if you apply yourself then you should do fine. He's a good guy, very smart and passionate about Philosophy.
I have a lot of respect for him. Not many teachers in my life actually have me to think of what I say or how I think. If your the kind of person who likes to think a lot of things around you and yourself then I say his class is the best choice for you.
He's extremely hard. I do not recommend taking him. He doesn't really explain much and if you aren't a pro at Philosophy then you should def. not take him. You have two hard tests and a huge paper on a chapter in your book. The final is optional though but he is really hard and it was def. my worst class
Very, very good at explaining things that are difficult to explain. I could him to be a fairly easy grader as long as he could tell that you were trying. Class is very discussion oriented, which is a nice break from lectures. Kept bugging me to switch my major to philosophy. Because of his class Im thinking about minoring in phil. Overall good prof
He talks A LOT but it's only an hour and a half class. Quizzes are simple if you review the FEW notes that he gives. Can be a confusing subject ex: believe vs. know. Otherwise, easy.
Dr. Witonsky is a great professor. He keeps the class interesting and makes you think.
I took him for an honors course and by the way he talked it seemed like he treated us differently than his normal classes. Overall I loved the class. There was not very much work and the work we did do he graded easily. The class was interesting and thought provoking. Take him!!
Took him for philosophy of mind writing intensive. Instead of one long paper, cuts it up into 5/6 short papers (800-1000 words). Lectures can be confusing at times, but really tries his best to get your to understand the material. Funny guy but challenges you to think hard. Very passionate about his job.
Took him for honors intro to philo. Not every interested on the subject (still not) but the class isn't hard at all. Expect to read a lot of papers and take group quizzes on them. Also, you have to write about 5-6 papers but the topics aren't that bad if you do the readings and listen in class. Pretty easy A. No textbook needed.
A Nice Guy who actually listens to his students. He speaks to his students as equals. He is by far the best professor i have had so far.
Cool dude, just wants you to be interactive in the course. Almost every class was a full lecture, sometimes we watched Black Mirror or other videos for a full class. You can get away with not showing up a few times. Only 2 exams, 1 paper at the end-- he grades lightly, as long as you know the jist of what's going on in the class you will pass.
Nice Professor. Very willing to help.
I took intro to phil, and we wrote a bunch of short essays which were not too difficult. I think he grades leniently. The course material was also really interesting- definitely take this class if you've ever thought about philosophy at all! Professor Witonsky's lectures were also really great, and there was almost never a dull moment in class!
I had Dr. Witonsky for online Philosophy of Mind. The course was extremely interesting and thought-provoking! For it being an online class, the amount of work assigned each week was fair. If you keep an open mind while examining the philosophical arguments, you'll take a lot away from the class. Truly one of the best professors I've ever taken!
I had Dr. Witonsky for Intro to Philosophy and it was a pretty great class. He's a cool guy and talks about thought provoking subjects, even if you're not too interested in philosophy. Class work was alright - had to write a few paragraph long papers about different topics we talked about in class, and took easy group quizzes. Definitely recommend.
Interesting lectures, youll have to pay attention to understand most of the material. Assigns quite a few essays but theyre only ever a few paragraphs. Some of them are reading based and others are based off of content gone over in class. Hes a nice guy and gives good feedback, and seems to actually care about his students.
Honestly, the worst person I have ever met. He was unhelpful and rude. Never ever ever ever take him. He will make your life miserable. I have a 4.0 and this guy has been the absolute worst. he should not be teaching any person in the world. I actually hate him and everything he stands for. Do yourself a favor and take anyone else.
Took him for Phil. of Mind (WI). Really awesome guy. He's funny, wants to hear your thoughts, & overall the class was very interesting. It's pretty easy to get a good grade if you listen in class, do the readings (seriously) and complete the writing assignments. The class made me pursue Philosophy as a minor. I'm taking him again next semester!
Took him for phil of mind. He is kind of scatterbrained, so it makes it hard to follow him sometimes. Grading criteria felt a little random, but I am giving him a 4 because his lectures are quite interesting. Also, he's a fair grader who curves a lot. Group quizzes, two exams, and a weekly reflection essay on philosophy and thats about it.
passionate about philosophy. easy assignments with group quizzes, hard exams but they are open notes.
Gives 2 quizzes and 2 discussion posts a week. Some weeks he will give a test and a paper instead of the quizzes. Discussion posts are extremely difficult to understand. many times they ask opinionated questions, however, when you give an opinion that doesn't match his, he gives you a bad grade. One of the worst online classes i have ever taken
I took Witonsky for online Intro to Phil. The content confused me in the beginning of the semester, but he patiently and clearly answered all of my many questions. You must do the readings and listen to the lecture in order to get an A, and you must pay attention to the way things are worded. After his course, I am considering a minor in Philosophy
The worst professor I've had during my 4 years at Rowan. Every assignment turned in is met with harsh criticism and points off, if your opinion doesn't match his you won't pass this course. DQs are meant to be argumentative as you have to disagree with a classmate's opinion to get credit... super uncomfortable classroom environment
Inclined to believe the 4s and 5s for "Dr." W. are from himself. Pats himself on the back for being so very superior. Philosophy is interesting. That's due to its nature, not this fraud. Look at all the profs in his department ACTUALLY publishing papers. The class itself is easy, because he is an inept teacher and curves to hide that he is inept.
You have many quizzes that seem to be there just to trick you, and many DQ's but they are graded very harshly. Even though discussion boards are often times meant to be your opinion, if it doesn't line up with his it will be graded badly. I do not recommend this professor, too scatterbrained to keep up with a class.
Honestly do not take this course, you will regret it. He has to be the worst professor I've had in college thus far. He grades all discussion questions and core quizzes with a strong bias so if you don't believe what he believes, you are set up for failure in the class. You will have at least one test/quiz a week but he responds to emails quick.
Uncomfortable classroom environment, acts pretentious and isn't open to opinions outside his own. It's a shame because the class has the potential to be thought-provoking but instead just leaves a bad taste in your mouth.
This Professor is honestly such a good guy. At first, I was confused by the class and topics being discussed but through multiple days discussing the same topic, he made it very understandable. Topics are very eye opening and professor explains well. Tries not to convey his own opinions too much, but he does let you know where he stands.
Very lecture heavy, if you miss one class you'll be lost. Lots of room for discussion, which can get intense at times. If you question anything he says, which is part of philosophy, he becomes extremely defensive, and has a bit of a superiority complex. Overall weird vibes.
I was wary of this class because I hated philosophy and the number of low reviews, but by the end it was one of my favorite courses. I can see the value of the field and looked forward to every class. Dr. W is engaging, smart, and fun. Definetly take the time to engaging meaningfully and you'll get the most out of the course.
You just have to pay attention + pretend you agree with this old timer. I think this guy's so polarizing bc the topics r cool enough, but there's something off about the prof. Like, we don't care if you fought w/your wife. Teach the subject and keep your personal life personal.
Professor is biased as far as his opinions, disorganized, and rude. However the subject matter is pretty interesting. You can do well by not missing classes and parroting back whatever he says. Quizzes are easy, light amount of work overall.
I took his intro honors philosophy course and he was very engaging. As someone who hates reading, I can say that he made the material extremely interesting and left me wanting more after the semester ended. Show up, participate, and study. You'll do great!
Took his honors phil class last semester. Like others say, he's not very organized nor open minded. Not a tough grader so if you do put moderate effort in, you'll be fine. I've had better profs in phil that have more depth and are more intriguing but can't win them all.
Class discussions are cool..DQ's, easy papers..I did well but I now have a strong dislike for philosophy because of his negative aura..he's all over the place with grading, gets flustered easily, mood swings.
YMMV, but I'd rather read Vogon poetry for all of eternity than listen to this pompous humanoid for another semester. But I got an A, so...
I would love to never hear this guy's voice again. Took the class because I had a general level of interest in philosophy and by the second lecture I was questioning if college is for me. This guy knows his stuff but does not know how to convey his knowledge. Avoid taking this class and professor unless you are a full-fledged philosophy nerd.
He talks a lot and the quizzes are a big part of your grade.
No passion for the subject. Sad little man.
He is not awful he just wants you to actually do the work and answer the discussions with details, not bad at all, great professor,
