Gets her own problems wrong.
I think she is a pretty good teacher. For someone who has at least the minimun knowledge of Algebra is going to be fine.
She speeds through the material. She makes an easy class very difficult. I'm not sure she really knows what she's doing in front of the board.
She's a good teacher and explains things until the student understands it. I recommend you take her.
Supper easy, she explains everything step by step. Her exams are not too difficult
No Comments
Doesn't explain things step-by-step. Her way of teaching is getting problems from the book and doing them on the board in under two seconds. She does stay after for anyone that has a question but her explanations are very cloudy.
Like someone said she just gets a problem and works it out in the board, she does not explain how to get there. Not so helpfull teacher.
this lady is not a good teacher, she just shows the class 2 or 3 problems on the board, and tells everyone that if they do their homework and understand it as well as the 10 question review the day before the exam then they will be fine...NOOOOOOOOT this lady does not know what she's talking about, she gets her own problems wrong and doesnt care
Very good teacher. She clearly explains everything on the board, and answers all questions posed to her. She teachers very matter-of-factly and can write on the board really fast. She stays after class to give extra help. If you do the homework, the tests are easy. RECOMMEND.
She does the problems on the board and gets them wrong. Her test have problems different from the ones on the review! She is not clear about instructions that are on the test, and she goes through the problems on the board without explaining them well!
good teacher, easy to understand, moves very fast though
She is an extremely helpful professor. She goes over the homework after the student completes it, she thoroughly goes through the problems and if student needs help she is more than willing to assist them.
She moves very fast so you have to really pay attention. If you don't understand something she's always willing to stay after class and she also goes over the homework assignments during the next class. She's a nice lady. The class wasn't that hard.
Did not like her at all! Very fast and very confusing. I failed this class because I got extremely discouraged. The online tutoring teaches better than she does.
She goes too fast & skips steps. She goes over the homework but gets upset if U ask her something she feels "U should know", will stay after class to "help U" but she will embarrass U in private as well. No extra credits in her class for the homework, just 3 tests + final exam which uses different terms to trick U. Worst match teacher I ever had !!
The woman is a nightmare. She writes wayyy too fast and her way of teaching is doing a problem on the board in record speed. And she writes so fast and hard that on the first day, a peice of chalk flew out! Unbelievable. I had to drop.
She writes toooo dam fast. She does a problem in like five seconds or less Usually doesnt explain how she arrived to the solution. Goes over homework, and stays after class to answer questions. In my opinion her ways of teaching are terrible. I dont think this class should be learned like this. Too much of a load on behalf of the student.
I had her for college alg. she was pretty easy. eventhough, she does write fast, it's basic math and she goes over any problems u made in the h.w. she is pretty helpful. her tests are pretty easy as well. she is a good math teacher.
i don't kno why so many people say she's hard. All you have to do is make sure you go to class, take the notes and do the homework.. If you need help she'll stay after class to help you out.. but i personally have never had to stay for extra help. She's really not as bad as people say she is.
she's great. she gets through the lesson within an hour. she is clear. goes over the homework and is helpful. easy class. shes doesnt write fast, people are just slow minded.
No matter what anyone says, this teacher goes over each section thoroughly and gives practice problems. SHe starts off with easy ones and then moves on to harder ones. If you pay attention and get the concepts then there's no need to do the H.W. A's on a test are very manageable to obtain. If you have a question, she'll address it and she also stay
Good teacher. Easy tests, just three in total and a final. Makes math easy, like math for dummies.
also, although she is easy beware of the final she doesnt make it the math department does and its hard!!! so make sure u get good grades on ur testes bc the final is worth 30%.. i had As on her testes but bc of the final i got a B in the class =(
I didn't like this professor too much. Although she was clear in her lectures, she never cared for the students. We all knew that the final was going to be made by the department at the end, but she should have said to read the whole text book! There was only about a 30% of the material she had taught in class in the final. I ended up w/ a C.
She warns you at the beginning that the final is made by the department but she prepares you fairly well. Im not good at math but I passed with a B (because of the final
The material itself isn't too hard if you pay attention in class and do the homework. Sometimes she writes too fast--just ask her to slow down a little and she usually will. Not bad, but not great either.
Wonderful teacher. Gives extra credit. Straight to the point... I've got 100% on every quiz and over 100% on almost every exam, and I don't own the textbook. Very happy to be in her class. Take her!
She teaches fast and is a very to-the-point kind of professor. She seems mean and unhelpful but she will try to help if you ask her a good question. This class covers a lot of material and its hard, take it with Kim Gwydir instead, shes great!! Monserrat would be my second choice...
She is an amazing professor. She seems intimidating, but is VERY helpful. She speaks CLEAR english, which is very important. Her quizzes are only for extra credit, so they can only help. 5 exams, and teh final. I got an A in the class. She is always willing to help. If you study, you'll be fine. TAKE HER!!
Montseratt is such a generous teacher because she gives the 5 extra credit quiz points which are added on to the already super easy exams and then she also reviews before the exam from time to time. She is really easy to understand because she speaks perfect English. The best thing is that her notes are suffice enough to use 2 study for on the exam
This lady is an amazing professor! Give a total of 25 extra credit points. Prepares you very well for the final exam. She is extremely helpful and is willing to answer any questions before, during, and after class.
HORRIBLE. Makes Math more difficult than what it should be. Extra Credit work only helps people who know the material, and doesn't help those who need work on the material. Goes way too fast, does not explain, and expects you to learn 15+ formulas for one exam. Has no control of the class as they kept talking. Do not take this woman. HORRIBLE.
Awesome teacher; she knows what she's teaching. College Algebra is a HARD CLASS and I think that this is the prof who's best at teaching it. She goes REALLY FAST though. I was worried I wouldn't be able to keep up. She gives loads of extra credit; take advantage of it! Go to class EVERYDAY! First time 1105 had to drop (Aladro). Got a B with her.
The class subject is hard but if you pay attention and actually go to class then you should pass. She gives extra credit quizes before the test, so if you know the subject then you'll get it. she's super helpful, always pressing you to ask her for help. Great Teacher!
She is so helpful! Makes learning the material super easy. I love her!
This professor is pretty straight. If you want to pass college algebra with a good grade you should definetly take her. She's easy going and knows what shes talking about. she also gives extra credit who should help out.
I think she teaches wayyyyyyyyyy to fast. I did all the homework and got tutoring and everytime the test came around its nothing what she taught in class. She seems like a teacher you really cant approach if you have questions. If you are a student who is weak in math this is not the professor to take Mac 1105.
i think she's amazing. she goes kind of fast but if you follow along and ask occasional questions you'll be fine. she gives extra credit quizzes and review sheets prior to every test and she gives about 7 tests not including the final. attendance is not mandatory but i highly recommend it if you don't like doing hw or reading the book. take her!!
WOW....Im a very good math student...and I failed her class. She teaches way to fast and teaches a new lesson every day. Doesn't care to go over what she taught the day before. Her tests are never multiple choice. Her extra credit quiz are only if you get them ALL right then u get 5 points.. which is nothing for her test. And her final.. VERY HARD
She is nice, but she moves a little fast. If you need extra help you can ask her after class. She gives plenty of practice problems and goes over them. If you don't already have some Algebra knowledge, you might struggle a little, but if you already have a gist of it, then you will be fine.
If you have to take Mac 1105 take it with Monserrat. She is the best professor! If you have a hard time with math take the extended class. It's an interesting course and her tests are a lot easier than nmost other professors. She gives great reviews before tests, and you even have extra time before the test to study. She's awesome!
Ms Monserrat is the best math teacher I ever had.She explains in the easiest way possible and gives you a lot of examples so that you can learn the material in different ways. She definately loves math and knows a lot about it.I am really sad that she does not teach higher leves of math, she knows this stuff.Easy A and really nice teacher!!!!
She is AWESOME! amiable and clear in her explanations. I learned a lot. Also, there are no weird online stuff to do, and she will explain anything you don't understand if you ask her.
the bomb
two words...absolute greatness.
Greatness.
She is awesome!!! always willing to help and makes the class learning the material as easy as possible.Tests are fair as well.
She is amazing. I took college algebra with another professor in the fall and failed the class. with this teacher, i have A's on every single test. she really does teach.
Amazing Teacher! Makes the class easy to understand and is extremely helpful. For college algebra being hard, she made it very easy. Attendance not mandatory but highly recommend it because it helps for exams
She is an amazing professor. She is willing to help and knows the material well. If you do the hw and actually study for the test you should get an A. Would take her again in a heart beat!
If you want to LEARN and get a GOOD grade take her!! she is so easy to understand. She makes you work for your grade and its very rewarding to know that you do good on every test. I failed this class once, and so far Ive gotten only A's and B's. Take her!!!!
She was a wonderful teacher! She follows the course syllabus to the tee. Shes very "type A" personality so she uses class time to the fullest. She always goes over the section for the day and then gives practice time. She reminds you to do your math lab so that you don't forget. She even offers extra credit quizzes sometimes. Take this class!
Teaches way too fast. I took her class because of all her great reviews, but was very much dumbstruck when I entered her classroom and noted that none of these comments to her justice. I would not recommend this teacher at all.
totally agree with the person below me. I even took her extended class on purpose thinking it would be more one on one help..yeah right. if you're great at math, and you understand concepts right away this is the class for you. if not..i don't suggest you take her
The truth is she is a little fast. Very efficient. It's true. At times I felt sorry for some of the other kids because I knew they might be a little dumbstruck. I have a good math background and had no trouble following along. Really helpful! knows what shes doing! do ur math lab! it HELPS SO MUCH! good teacher.... try it out
Took her extended class. She follows her syllabus and doesnt make a single change on it. She goes extremely fast and is very serious. 5 tests during the semester plus the final. Hard Ssbject, hard class, but good teacher.
I took this teacher because of all her great reviews but man was I wrong. She teaches at 473 mph and wont slow down for anything. Get ready to teach yourself everything. Good luck! You'll need it
AMAZING.. Got an a in the class, she explains everything, time fly's during the class b/c of the fast-paced lectures.. VERY organized, extra credit helps! Answers any/every question. (never opened the book once)Follows the syllabus perfectly, no surprises, no horrible accents, great teacher!!! Best so far!
She's very punctual, never late. Class feels like it's done after 15 minutes. She is a little intimidating but she never shoots down her students. She's all business, never talks of anything other than math and tests. She did smile on the day of the finals so that was heart warming :). She's everything what a college teacher should be. <<<period!
She is a tough grader. She does not care about her students and how they are doing in the class. She teaches extremely quick and if you ask her something she will probably answer something that has nothing to do with what you are learning. I strongly suggest you to look for another class because in my class only 5 of us passed the class. Stay away!
Te problem with Monserrat is she knows the material she doesn't know how to explain it properly. If your the kind of student that just needs a brief explanation on how to do something then she is great, but anything more than that you will not find with this professor.
This professor really knows her stuff. she's very punctual, does not get side tracked. She is very organized and if you are someone who needs structure and clarity, she's perfect. Very fast, but teaches so well if you go every day and do ALL of the HW you'll pass. Not an easy class, or an easy teacher but math is my worst subject and I got a B!
I took his class on summer and it was super easy. Im really good at math, you must go to every class if you want an A. if you're the wan who just need a brief explanation to solve the excursuses and don't like professors who talks a lot, this is your class. the test are the same as the board exercises and homework. she explains all the material.
Classes are straight to the point. She wastes no time, but also does a good job explaining material.
Very good teacher, explains concepts well in class, makes very good use of time. This class isn't easy if you don't know the material beforehand, but she makes it easy. She wants every student to pass and attempts to cover what will be on test/final. Great math teacher.
She is a great professor, she tends to move a little fast but she makes everything crystal clear. She is very helpful and whatever material is on the homework and on the quizzes is on the test. 2 thumbs up! Attendance mandatory..easy A for that portion of your grade
Good professor. You get what you deserve in the class. Study for tests. Grades fairly for tests. no curves. If you want an easy teacher don't take her. If you want to learn take her.
honestly, shes a bad teacher. she did nothing to help me learn. she brushes through work in class and there is no repetition in class so its hard to learn.
Made this class way too difficult. Don't waste your time, she's cranky, gets annoyed if you ask questions, and does not teach. Uses video lectures to do her work for her and has 60+ hw problems that have at least 3 steps each. (so it's more like 180 problems) Math is easy, she doesn't make it seem so.
She will lecture you through all the content and do examples with an accent that doesnt affect your learning. The problem is she really truly dislikes being asked questions. You can see it on her face and its very uncomfortable when you're lost. She often shrugs off questions and acts irritated. other than that.. its just math
She's not great. If you are really good at Math and don't want to attend class and just go through the class on your own then take her. But in class, she's really dry and not very understanding.
(CONTINUED)t the steps for the problem and that is it. There are helpers in the computer lab if you need it, but the actual professor is only there at certain times to help, and when she is,she isn't the most approachable person. IN SHORT: If you must take this class, I recommend taking it with another professor such as Professor Khan, for example.
Let me say this right off the bat: If you can avoid taking College Algebra, DO IT.4 hours in the computer lab are MANDATORY each week, and is 15% of your grade. This class is 95% online based. If you work, play sports, or anything else, take that into consideration. As for the professor, she doesn't really teach the material, but instead, writes ou
This class is pretty much online. I only went to about 3 or 4 lectures. Be prepared to spend a lot of time in the lab (at least 3 hours a week). She's unapproachable but you wont really need her. If you get lost or confused with the work just ask one of the lab assistants to help you. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT!!
Forget this teacher and go straight to the math lab and review the HW and quizzes to do well on the tests.
You go to class once a week for 50 minutes, then you have to go to the math lab 4 hours a week. She goes through the material, but you'll have to learn a lot on your own as well. This class is 95% online, homeworks, quizzes, and tests are all online. The lab hours are pretty annoying.
Professor speeds through problems to the point that if you dont know the material completely theres no point in trying to follow her. She is unapproachable, curt, and the class is overall a "teach yourself" class. Difficult class taught by bad teacher sets you up for failure. Hence 80% drop rate
She is not easy to approach if you have a question and looks very intimidating. She also rushes through the lectures and never slows down. However, she does grade fairly. I wouldn't recommend due to the nature of this subject and how important it is for professors to be approachable and willing to help in mathematics.
She is horrible. Not helpful, moves too quickly does not answer questions and isn't friendly at all. I did not enjoy this class or the 3 mandatory lab hours every week. If you can avoid this class and her, do it. I honestly don't know where the high ratings are coming. I kept an open mind as always but she was just terrible.
Not that great of a professor, but she is not the worst by far. She does explain example problems reasonably well, and is open to questions. The main drawback of the class is that you MUST use MylabsPlus, which isn't the most accurate or forgiving system to use. Overall, if you must take MAC1105, She is not bad. Not outstanding, but not bad.
she's not a bad teacher. She explains the problems thoroughly and takes question. You need an iClicker counts as attendance. Lab hours required AND Math Gym which was super annoying b/c its part of attendance. Not very approachable thru email though.
She covers the material fairly quickly, but will stop to explain things if you don't understand. She comes off as unapproachable, but she is actually very helpful. The lab hours and math gym are annoying, but that is a requirement by the department, not her. If you're good at math, you'll have no problem. Ask the LA's for help if you're lost.
Great Teacher! Really loved the way she explained the problems. The thing with college algebra is that even if you have a good teacher, whether you pass depends on how much effort and time you put into the class. Do the practice tests online a few times and you should pass the tests no problem.
This is by far the WORST teacher I have taken so far. She is extremely unapproachable. First off, be ready to take 3-4 hours in the mathlab, math gym, and hard hw and tests in any college algebra class. No matter what the class is hard but this prof just made everything torturous for me. Moves way to quickly and not helpful at all. I had to drop it
You have to go to class. I left high school finishing AP Calculus and AP Statistics and with four others maths. I thought college algebra should be a breeze but if you go in with that mentality you are sure to fail. It honestly isn't about Monserrat, it's about you and your willingness to do what it takes to succeed. Ask questions and participate.
She flies through the lectures and honestly seems to get bothered when a question is asked. Doesn't give any reviews for the tests and only meets once a week.
dont ever take her.. she teaches everything wayyy too fast as if everyone understood everything already. it seems more like a review. i do not recommend this professor. If you aren't already great at math, choose a different professor.
I thought she was great professor, NO ACCENT. She went through the material a little fast but only because she wanted to cover everything on MLP. She explains everything step by step. Not that approachable but an awesome professor nonetheless. oh and if you skip class your sooooooo not passing
She is very monotone and tends to move through the material very quickly without any depth. Personally I found the stuff she taught in class was very basic, anything on your homework or test will be a much more complex version. But, if you need a homework extension, shes been generous with that.
Great teacher and extremely clear ! Most of the stuff taught is learned in high school. She does go through it very quick but it is so you have an idea of what is going to be on the homework. Open to questions after class or you can meet her at the math lab. Yes we only meet once a week, but that is assigned by the math department.
The professor doesn't really show interest in helping you unless you personally go up to her and send her an email
She is a great math professor. I highly recommend doing some of the homework on MLP before going to class so that way you are not entirely lost because she will go over some problems but lectures are fast. She does stop and ask the class if there are any questions and she will also be available after class or in the math gym.
She's an ok teacher, goes over the most basic problems and does not help with the tougher ones that show up on the home work or test. She is really hard to get into contact with even with emails and approaching her, she will answer and move on not allowing you to elaborate on what you might need help on.
I like algebra so I understand what she lectures, tests aren't difficult, but if math is not your strength then it might all be hard. I have MAT 1033 and 3 hours of math lab a week are required, basically there is no homework, it's like a class to do homework. Goes through material, hard to get in contact with her. Book only for access code.
attendance not mandatory but recommended. 3hr lab and 1hr math gym required. if you dont go you wont pass. you wont see things you learned in class when doing hw on MLP. exams ?s are much different than the hw. too much work and too time consuming. just take this class online. much easier.
She just reminds you of what you learned in high school. If you are terrible at math DO NOT take her. If you can just look at a problem and understand it, take her. Lectures are short and easy. She does not care about your feelings. You're basically on your own. 3lab hrs, 1hr math gym with an LA each wk. 6tests. 5hrs that will kill your free time.
SPEAKS ENGLISH. Lectures are very clear and understandable. Nice prof. In class quizzes everyday (at least in my class)
I don't care what anybody says, Professor Monserrat is the best! She speaks English and she works the problem out on the board so there is no problem with understanding the lectures. However, 3 hours in the math lab is required and math gym. But, that's not her fault, its required by the department. Do your homework and study and you'll pass.
Ada is a phenomenal professor. The downside of this course is EVERYTHING else you have to do to pass. 4 hours a week mandatory in a lab where you aren't allowed to use your phone. An additional 1.5 hour workshop class. If you work or can't commit 6 hours a week to this class, please save yourself the stress and take this class at BBC.
She clearly explains all of her lessons, is consistent with the syllabus, and is always available in the math lab. The lab portion, which is most of the class, is tough. There's a lot of work.
So as a person shes not bad, but she goes through a problem in .5 seconds, she legit will start on snother problem before you even get to write down the first one. She teaches super fast. & for someone who actually needs to know step by step what they are doing to understand math, this class was very difficult for me. She needs to slow down.
I worked on a problem & got the answer right but just needed clarification on 1 of the concepts within the question. Asking Prof. Monserrat 4 help was the worst thing I did. She just looked at my notebook & criticized my work (Even though my final answer was CORRECT). She wouldn't even let me speak to get my question out. She's RUDE & UNHELPFUL.
She is a great teacher!!!! Take her
I love Ada she really helped me when I needed her and I enjoy her teaching style.
Absolutely love the way she lectures. If she could teach all my math classes, I would definitely pass. She's super clear and explains everything. She moves kind of fast but if you have a question she'll answer it. Only came up to her like twice, but she was always helpful.
She goes VERY fast during her lectures and always ends class early. But if you write what she does then you will have a better chance of passing. She teaches the material in a clear manner and does give some examples. If you are having any problems go and see the LA, they are really helpful. There is HW due every week along with a quiz.
Prof. Monserrat is a pretty cool teacher. She goes fast but will stop and go back to clear anything up. I dont know why the comments say her class is difficult when she gives the EASIEST iclicker questions for 2 points every class.
Prof. Monserrat is a very good professor, I don't understand why she has such a low rating. She makes lessons clear & shows several examples of problems that show up on exams. She gives very easy iClicker points that help boost your grade. The amount of HW & lab hours requirement is not her fault, its the department. I wish I could take her again.
This was one of the worst professors i've had. Lectures were poorly explained and she was very unhelpful. Unless you want to learn the entire class by yourself, i wouldn't recommend taking her class.
Prod. Monserrat is a good teacher, don't get me wrong, but she moves through her lectures very quickly and just does examples. If you're someone who needs things explained thoroughly, step by step, I wouldn't recommend her. Math lab hours and math gym is required every week and there is a hw and quiz due every week.
She is a pretty good proffessor. Nothing much else to say. She goes through the lectures at a good pace and she answers questions and really cares. I dont know why some comments say otherwise.
She's not a bad professor but she's very rude sometimes. I have an A in her class but had difficulty in one of the sections in which she really didn't cover anything that was on the HW and her answer was "you're supposed to figure it out on your own" which didn't make sense to me. She is not a bad professor but I wouldn't take her again.
She only does practice problems in class, you are supposed to learn the material on your own time. Three hours minimal are required in the math lab each week. If you do the work and avoid using mathway, then it's really not that difficult of a class.
This professor never responded to any of my emails concerning my grade which was a 78 even though my test grades were more than sactisfactory (A's&B's). The reason for this being all the extra requirements this class entails like lab hours and math gym. Don't take this class if you have a heavy schedule. It doesn't matter if you're good math here.
While most of the learning happens outside of the classroom I would highly recommend for you to go to the actual lectures since the participation/in class quizzes can boost up your final grade a lot. She goes fast but she is great with the problems she puts up. However, this class is most of it self taught, regardless of prof. TAKE HER
This prof. goes through lessons way too fast. All she does are examples and doesn't explain much, unless you ask a question. There are 3 hours mandatory to do outside of class to complete homework and quizzes. There are questions on the homework sometimes that are extremely hard and were never shown on in class.
She is a great teacher, and knows her stuff. But since their is so much she has to cover, she goes fast. The 3 hours in math lab and math gym are not her fault, it is the math department. She is understanding and will work with you to get a good grade. She is nice, go to her office hours if you need more help.
If you can avoid taking this class at FIU do it by any means necessary. All MAC 1105 classes are structured the same and the Professors do not have much of a say in the material or grading criteria. Prof. Monserrat goes very fast during lectures and does only 1 or 2 practice problems of each type. There is a 1 question "quiz" at the end of class.
College algebra is very MyLabs based so you only meet w/ her once a week where she reviews what you are doing that week. She's not very helpful though and only shows a couple examples and moves on, does not actually explain. She expects for you to already know what you're doing. Textbook not used but access code is mandatory. Class sucks, she's eh.
Its a big auditorium class so she is alright. Lots of teaching yourself and she does not go over the harder questions in class. Mylabsplus will teach you more. Easy A though.
shes really nice and helpful
Know the material well and teaches it well.
Most of the math courses at FIU (especially the intro ones) follow the same grading scale and criteria. Tests are short about 25 questions but you should be familiar with the concepts when you take the test IF you have been doing the homework and the test review quizzes. Those are IMPORTANT study tools and will get u that A that you want.
You meet once a week she explains the things of last weeks homework which is not very helpful after you have already submitted your assignment. But the course is easy so it doesnt really matter.
if i didnt have the text book and disicipline, i would not have passed this course. She knows her math but does not know how to properly relay information. Each lecture problem is done swiftly, leaving no time for understanding. She is very insensitive to your situation(i work full time). I would feel more confused during class then with the text.
This class is not difficult provided that, 1) You have the discipline to read before class, and 2) Ask LAs questions in the math lab sooner rather than later. Prof. Monserrat doesnt have any control over the material or grading criteria. Lectures are quick and she provides only a few examples or each problem. Be prepared to teach yourself.
My frustration with her is out the roof. I have attended every single lecture, done every clicker question possible(got only one wrong), attended my math gym (I only missed 2) and she decided to give me an 8% for participation, and 33% for both math gym and in class quizzes aka clicker questions. Rude when I spoke in person with her.
I wouldn't say that this class was bad because of the professor. It's FIU's math department as a whole.
The class is not difficult to pass if you work for it, but you have to stay on top of all of your assignments to pass. In my opinion, she was good at teaching the material and there were helpers walking around the class if you had questions. The material does not get too difficult, but it's better to take this online if you don't want extra work.
She uses an online quiz to take attendance. About ten other students and I had a problem using the software because it said we had to pay for it even though she said we didnt. She proceeded to be EXTREMELY rude to us, and refused to simply write our names down for attendance. Does not help to learn at all. MyLabsPlus does all the teaching.
Good professor, not that much work if you try. Class time was very useful for everyone to learn the material as long as they paid attention. There are better math professors though, so I probably won't be taking her again.
ummm... just don't. If you need a good college algebra professor with good lectures then she's not it. She lectures like you're watching Dora. Don't even think about asking her questions (good thing LAs are there). She has an attitude most of the time, but the last month she was better idk.
It doesn't matter what professor you take for MAC1105 as they all have to strictly follow the syllabus and most of the work is done outside of class in the math lab. That being said she is an alright professor.
Rude and unhelpful when you ask her questions. Her class is boring and she does not care about her students. DONT TAKE THIS CLASS
Summer A or B, get ready to binge some algebra to pass. MAC 1105 are all the same stepping stone class to just get out of the way. But she really is rude. She wouldn't even look me in the eye when I asked a question, and I was standing right in front of her. No excuse for poor manners.
She explains things fairly well. She informs you about upcoming assignments sometimes. The hybrid part of the course can be challenging to keep up with.
She does not teach, she does not go over all the material, and the one she does, she goes over so fast that you will not get a chance to comprehended. If you ask her a question she will brush you off, or say "I will not discuss that right now". She is not available. Awful professor. Do not take her is you have a choice.
Her class is easy if you attend the lectures, attend math gyms, and do 3 hours at the math lab.
All College Algebra classes follow the same rubric so she doesn't have much say in what she can teach or how the test is graded. There is homework and a quiz every week which you have to do in the Math Lab for 3 hours each week. The exams throughout the semester can make or break your grade and the final replaces your lowest exam.
Honestly I dont understand the bad comments made about this professor. The structure for the way that class is taught is not decided by her! Its decided by the math department which is not great. Either way, she tries to teach everyone and makes sure we all understood. Do your required lab hours and go to class and youll pass.
She does not teach at all. I took her for an online class and the problems that she gives are nothing like the quiz. She takes long to respond and is lazy when it comes to helping out her students.
Good professor overall, but then again the course was MAC 1105, which is structured pretty poorly by FIU. It's an easy class, just do your MLP work, live polls, math gym/lab and you're good.
The course itself is pretty easy, as most of the work is done on your own in the math lab. But if you're not able to teach yourself, good luck. Her lectures are extremely boring and she really doesn't teach, she just does a few examples. I actually left class early several times because I felt like it was pointless for me to be there.
Nice lady tries to work with you. I am not good with math and can be stressful. The homework assignments can be overwhelming but are key to passing her class.
While this class is extremely easy to pass, there is a bunch of homework and extra bs that is unnecessary, and instead of actually teaching she just turns off the camera and gives the answers. If you have a good gc you'll be good. hint: MATHWAY
Prof is so nice and communicated fast. I took her this semsester and her class was really easy for me. yeah the homeoworks are long but they're the exact same format for quizzes and tests so it helps you a lot. you have 1 quiz and 1 hw due every weekend and 4 tests+ final. trust me if you actually try on your hw you'll pass her class!
This class has so much tedious work and the professor didn't really teach much, you basically teach yourself.
Gave me an A- for no reason please spare yourself and take another teacher for the love of god
She is no help at all and basis everything on final exam 40% grade. So if you don't pass the final exam you don't pass her class. Even though, you complete all homework and assignments it does not matter. If you do not pass her final exam you don't pass her class, you are teaching yourself and she gets paid to fail you.
Several tests, lots of modules in canvas that were not related to the work given in mylabsplus. Prof does not give any sort of guidance throughout course. Does not give a study guide and expects you to memorize all formulas. It is nearly impossible to get a timely response to an email. Final covers ALL material.
Very tedious class, lots of hw, weekly quizzes and 4 tests plus a Final. If you don't study, YOU WILL NOT PASS. Professor does not teach, this is a hard self-taught course. Professor would send a zoom meeting ( 5 minutes before said meeting) on a Friday night, to review for a test. Must memorize about 30 formulas. Unnecessary math gyms & modules
Doesn't care to help for anything that's out of class time, just a overall mediocre professor.
Honestly, she is a good professor. People who got a low score probably did not care about the homework, you can't expect to get an A without doing the homework and reviewing them before the tests. Easy A if you study and she explains everything clearly. Definitely would take her again!!
Worst professor ever. Not only is there an insane amount of homework, but there are also pre requisites and a required hw grade of 80% or more in order to move on to the next assignment, and if you are having trouble w/ hw and decide to email her for help, she takes days to respond, often after the deadline and answers in 1 sentence. very unhelpful
This professor is the epidemy of unprofessional, she only holds last-minute lectures, never announces important info, there is no syllabus, lessons are missing & lessons don't match the tested material. If you have her as your teacher prepare to teach yourself everything, khan academy thought me more than this class, waste of my tuition.
To be honest, she's an ok teacher. I had her for college algebra and she does go kinda fast. She does give a lot of homework but unfortunately all of the college algebra teachers are the same so it doesn't matter which teacher you pick, you're still gonna get the same amount. She is nice and understanding though.
Shes actually not bad, I had her for college algebra and unless you dont pay attention and study you wont due well in this class. She may not be the best but not the worst either and shes nice too. Its just the class itself thats a lot of work :( And the grade is heavily based on four tests and a final.
Going to class was pointless. Her lectures didn't clarify what you had to do so you must be able to teach yourself everything. The tests aren't hard if you use the practices on MyLab.
I wouldnt advise taking her because of these things. One you are completely teaching yourself on the mymathlab and the assignments range from 4-5 each week with 15-65 questions. The regular assignments on canvas are clear but the mathlab is horrible so STEER CLEAR. If you dont get it on your own you will fail the rest because she doesnt teach.
This professor had a really good way of teaching for me. As long as you do all the homework, you will for sure pass! I think the only thing I disliked was the 1 hour math gym we had to do a week, but this is not her fault it is mandatory for every student no matter who the teacher is.
Poor lecture skills. Hard to talk to. Takes a while to respond to emails
This class 80% homework, and 20% tests. Doing the homework on time will help your grade a TON. However, the class involves other tedious things like dedicating certain times of your busy week to sit at a computer for an hour or two. It's not fun I'll admit, but she is a very nice lady who really does care, and she'll never give you a hard time.
Monserrat is amazing! Her class is just as hard as all the other classes so I don't get why people give her bad reviews for that. She truly cares and offers multiple resources like reviews on the weekends to help you succeed. There are 4 tests which are 60% of your grade and a weekly 2 hr math lab. Studying the lessons is essential to passing!
Took this class Fall 2020. I remember this being such a horrible professor. Barely did any teaching, I learned more from the TA's who would take over lectures instead of her. Extremely difficult to access her outside of class. I had an A in canvas, and then on my transcript I find out she last minute changed it to a B+. Rude during lectures as well
She's a great professor, just a bad math department. She gave us many chances to go back and retake quizzes. You could easily pass the class with a B or an A as long as you don't slack off and study for the quizzes. Four main quizzes, there is a final plus a preclass before every class and one homework assignment per week.
She was like alright. She does everything opposite like she asigns homework before you have even learned the information. Everything is pretty backwards. I would say that a good perk to her class is that you have retakes.
DO NOT take this professor. She makes you do a weekly Math Packet (which we found out does not even count for a grade), Pre Modules, My Math Lab assignments plus quizzes weekly. We cannot open the quizzes unless we get 80 or more on the MyMathLab assignments. Total of five tests all Proctored using a real person watching you over your computer.
Does no teaching and is impossible to connect with via email. Weekly 3-5 page packet, weekly homework assignments on MyMathLab ranging from 10-80 (not kidding) questions, weekly quizzes, 4 test and 1 final. I barely made it through this class having to use MML and YouTube to learn everything. I would never take this class again.
tbh, the class itself is really hard if you good at math then you got it!! she is really cool but the way the course is structure is bad. she gives 4 test the only good thing Is that you get retakes thats how I passed. try to do all her hw and do good on the test so you dont stress on the final because its hard and not everybody passes.
This Professor does not teach. She gives you videos that has a student teaching but does a terrible job explaining things.
She is one of the nicest and understanding professors but she gives a lot of homework and you wont be able to move forward in assignments if you dont meet the requirements for that assignment. For instance she gives practice questions where you have to score 380 which means getting all the questions correct. My math lab has a lot of work as well
Honestly the course material isn't hard if you actually study on your own terms. Monserrat was very nice and was somewhat helpful but the math department is what makes the class so difficult. There are two retests for almost every single quiz so it's not hard to get okay grades. Blame the department not the professor.
Ada Monserrat is a kind teacher. You can easily reach her through email and she usually replies within 24 hours. She does give a lot of homework, 3-5 sets of 7-20 questions each. Her class had 4 exams and a final. She did occasional ZOOM meetings to go over topics. She also gives extensions if you ask her. Overall, it's an easy class.
I took MAC1105 twice and failed the first time so i was really worried about taking it again but she was clear in her expectations for the class and really did a good job in explaining the material and why we do the things we do to solve specific problems. goto the math lab, ask for help when needed and try not to fall behind and youll be good.
DO NOT TAKE! This course was offered as a half semester course (6 weeks) and it was the worst experience ever. ProctorU is extremely invasive and the professor could care less. She responded to 3/7 emails I sent her and had limited zoom meetings at odd hours (9pm). 3 days after this class started we had over 200 problems due. 5 tests.
Extremely hard!! Took this course twice, had to drop both times. A lot of work about 4-5 homework assignments per module with about 10-20 questions on each completed on mymathlab. Your not able to take the quiz until you complete all homework with an 80 percent or higher. 5 question weekly worksheet on canvas where you have to show your work.
Emailed her 3 times with no response. Every Week: Over 3 hours of assignments. Video lessons not made by her, gives one example and never a full explanation. A pretest you must pass with a 100. Over 50 questions of homework. Quiz and a 4 page worksheet. Test are on proctorU that you must schedule in advanced, if you don't it's a 0. DO NOT TAKE THIS
HW based off math lab. Weekly math homework with 60 or more questions. 4 proctored exams worth 10 percent each except the final which is worth 30 percent of your overall grade. The weekly quizzes cannot be taken unless you have gotten 80 percent on all homework assignments due that week. The homework is busy. She takes long to answer emails.
don't buy panther bookpack, buy the 18 week mathlab. don't miss lectures. hw is very similar to the test so actually do it to learn, not to get a good grade.
Had to take twice because she was awful. Wont respond to emails with questions. All through Pearsons and teaching yourself. DONT TAKE HER
Stay away! She never answer the emails, send a lot of work like her class is the only one that you have in your semester, very unflexible, this is an University no a Middle School. We are working adults (60% of the students), I'm not sure if her goal is that everybody fails the class, because professors like her, I'm done with FIU
Great prof. All Math classes require tons of HW. So
Ended up dropping it when I saw all the outrageous stuff. Her HW is all through Pearson and some other platforms she likes to use. You pretty much have to teach yourself everything and she never responds to her email. I stayed in a group chat with fellow peers who stayed and EVERYONE is complaining. Stay away. Multiple tests/assignments due a week
She actually is so awful, she never answers your questions and always makes an LA answer and half the time they don't know the answer either. She doesn't teach her class at all, you teach yourself. I know this is college but your professor should at least offer a little bit of guidance and she just DOESN'T. Stay away if you value your sanity.
Professor's classes are tough - lots of work and little support. But the material aligns well with the tests, so putting in the effort with unstuck study helps solidify the concepts. Overall, just be prepared to teach yourself.
This professor is absolutely terrible. She clearly doesn't want to be there and it shows. During class she barely teaches anything and you're lucky if she smiles at you, super mean, cold, personality. She doesn't like to answer questions and leaves it all to the mathlab assistants (who are students) also never answers emails and assigns 50q+ HW.
Good professor and stated all the grading criteria since day 1. If you didn't do well in the class, it's on you. She provides so much practice for the tests that we have and states multiple times the value of tests in our final gradebook. Every class before exams she goes over everything. Really good professor.
Dt have enough characters to fully explain but the class itself is awful. The first tests are alright but later are actually rocket science. Lectures are just the professor solving problems themselves, and HW are 60qs+ for tests that are only 12 questions. Material is disgustingly difficult for something you'll never use again. yeah good luck AAHHH
Prof. Monserrat is chill and her lectures are actually helpful and help you pass. Attendance is not mandatory, sometimes there are poll questions during lectures, but I would recommend going since its short and it always helped me understand the material. :)
Honestly, avoid her if you can. Its basically like teaching yourself, maybe even worse. She will NEVER answer your emails and her lectures are pointless. Her class consists of the lab, pearson and some other platform. Pre class assignments, HW, and tests/quizzes. So many people dropped her class.
The class was okay. The tests were worth 45% of your grade but you do have 2 attempts with the highest going into your grade book. I highly recommend going to her lectures and taking notes since the notes helped me a ton when it came to the homework. The homework wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, but they're usually around 40 questions.
This class has a lot of work, but it's manageable. There are four proctored tests and a final exam. Professor Monserrat really wants you to do well. Before each test, she gives review lectures and post quizzes that are close to the actual test questions. As long as you do the homework, and take the practice quizzes seriously, you'll be fine.
She doesn't teach, she just solves problems on the board and calls it a day. This class is mostly self learning and her notes, yeah don't even bother. The notes aren't formatted correctly and they don't help towards the homework or the test. Don't take her if you want to learn and pass.
