His lectures are a bit scatterbrained. Can be hard to follow. Tests are fairly difficult and are worth a major portion of your grade. Prepare for weekly quizzes over web readings. The worst part of his class, is he is difficult to contact. Takes a while to reply to emails. Your best chance to ask questions is after class.
This guy is such a straight shooter. He doesn't mess around, make you guess what you're going to be tested on. He tells you, "X, y, and z will be on the exam." He's a life long learner, which is refreshing, & open to hearing students' interpretation of materials if they aren't "textbook right," b/c there isn't always just one right answer in A&P.
Some of the information is dry, and attendance is not mandatory but hes fun to listen to and goes on rants sometimes. He tells you what to focus on for the exams, and tells you during lecture I will/wont test you on this. He also got us all candy on Halloween. Really cool dude. Weekly online quizes on articles he provides on regginet.
Not a bad option if you just want to get your gen eds done, but this class can be frustrating. His lecture slides and test questions can be confusing and lectures are pretty boring. He is a down-to-earth guy and reasonable if you talk to him. Also gives out extra credit for showing up. If you go to class and do the quizzes, you will be fine!
He's a really cool dude. I had him for GEO 142. He gave me extra points when I went to go get help from him. The lectures are extremely boring. Quizzes once a week but are't difficult of you know what you're doing. Gave extra credit one day to everyone who showed up he is very nice. Exams are hard if you don't pay attention or study
So far, this guy has been a tough teacher. When I've tried to email him and ask for help weeks prior to an exam, he doesn't seem to ever reply and he eventually tells you in person that there will be a one review day, as well as a brief study guide with typically 8 terms that you get to study from. Big mistake by me for not dropping this class.
He's honestly a great teacher, but his class is so lecture heavy. All the slides are online, and can be accessed at any time. You rarely get homework, but most of your grade is composed based off of your test scores.
class is very boring if you're not interested in the material. lecture heavy and repetitive PowerPoints make up most of the class. isn't a huge help over email and study guides dont help for exams
This class is fairly annoying and difficult. Your grade is mostly made up of your exams. He gives extra credit but its not ideal to receive, he makes you volunteer an hour away to receive the points. Study guides and homework before tests barely skim the surface of whats on the actual exam. Would recommend taking this online instead.
Lecture heavy but all the slides are online which helped. Made it easy to study content and was clear cut on what you needed to know. Attendance not graded/mandatory but if you show up regularly It will definitely pay off. Being graded on only 4 exams can be stressful so if you arent a good test taker I wouldnt recommend. Very cool guy.
A straight G. Down to earth and just a chill guy. Coarse is all lecture, just show up and listen and you'll pass. Don't get the textbook because he covers everything in lecture. More concerned with the environment than politics for a geography class. Just a really cool guy, and for extra credit all you have to do is go volunteer.
Dr. Bauer is frustratingly inconsistent when it comes to lectures and assignments. He says that the book is helpful, but I've passed without even opening the book. There are "weekly" quizzes once a month and homework assignments before all 3 exams. His assignments are confusing, but all in all he isn't the worst. Would take again, but not for fun.
If you struggle with geography and need it for a Gen Ed
If you struggle with geography and need it for a gen ed take Bauer!!! I took a different prof last semester and failed but I passed Bauers class with an A. The PowerPoints are long and his lectures can be boring but if you study his tests are not hard at all. They have only 50 questions (multiple choice &true false)
I had Bauer during the spring 20 semester which was clearly a weird time due to the pandemic beginning and all of the uncertainty that was around. He was extremely helpful during this time and helped eliminate a lot of the stress and anxiety that came with moving online. wish I could have seen him in person again to say thank you.
He seems like a very nice guy, but he is incredibly inconsistent with his lectures and the quizzes. He will say one thing during the lecture and in the quiz, the stuff he said in the lecture are incorrect. The questions he asks are confusing on the quizzes and tests and they aren't hard, just really confusing. Overall okay.
Hes a really nice guy, but his quizzes are inconsistent with the lectures. He also often times gets off topic in his lectures.
An easygoing teacher who makes an easygoing course. The bulk of studying for tests is memorizing vocabulary terms, homework is easy to complete quickly, and there weren't any proper lectures, just optional weekly zoom semi-lectures where he talked about fun stuff not necessarily on the test.
I thought he was fine. He was VERY inconsistent in what the lectures were and what we were quizzed or tested on. I didn't show up to any of the zoom meetings this semester and still got an A. I didn't get the textbook either and got an A. Just remember to do the assignments every week and you'll be fine.
Absolute legend
taken during covid and purely online. I didn't show up to any zoom classes, only did the powerpoints, and didn't read the textbook. I think im going to end up with around an A. Easy class and he seems very nice, even though i haven't spoken to him... Taken for a Gen-Ed so worth it.
I had him online, and I enjoyed the class. He has hour-plus long lectures and slides weekly. However, the lectures cover nearly everything on the test. The textbook is optional in my opinion. I barely used it throughout the course. I would take the class online instead of in person.
The class was all online and was met with a weekly quiz, pre-recorded lecture (usually 1hr+), and a long article to read. All lectures are recycled and discuss previous semesters. Quizzes and tests have frequent misspellings and hard to understand at times. Unreliable communicator, emailed him multiple times in the semester and never got a answer.
I took Bauer during the Covid switch semester. He gives long lectures but gives almost every answer to the test in his lecture. No notes necessary if you can retain the info. I recommend having a map nearby for visual reference though
Professor Bauer was very funny to have for a professor. He kept the lectures fun and engaging. There are weekly quizzes online and homework assignments. The homework can be very time consuming.
Professor Bauer was a very nice professor. He is very funny and laid back. The class consists of weekly quizzes and homework assignments with a few exams throughout the semester. Overall, I thought the class was mostly easy. However, some of the homework assignments were very long and the lectures can be boring.
Bauer is a great guy, but his lectures are reused from previous semesters. There are lots of grammatical errors on tests and his lectures sometimes don't give all the answers to the Exams. Quizlets will help a lot if you find well-rated ones. There are weekly assignments and quizzes that aren't hard but assignments can be long at times.
Great guy who runs a very chill class. Very informal in a good way. As long as you understand the concepts and a few vocab terms you will breeze through. Play a drinking game with how many times he says "tuning in."
Professor Bauer is an awesome professor! I took him with GEO 135 and it was so chill. No need the textbook, just write good notes from the slides and study for the tests. The tests have content from the slides so notes are crucial. He’s super funny and this class was a super easy gen ed.
He's a nice guy but really annoying. If your emails don't meet his "proper etiquette" then he just won't respond. He has lots of grammatical mistakes on his quizzes and tests. His lectures are pretty boring and he rants about random things half the time. He has zoom available but then kicks students out LOL. I think he's new.
Legend. This guy makes class so easy.
I really liked Adam. He seems really passionate about this course, you can tell through his lectures. The homework and quizzes are not that bad, but the exams are very oddly worded and sometimes there are questions on them that don't make sense from the unit. Overall, this professor is really good and he is very understating as well!
The lectures for this class are very dry and boring and the assignments have nearly no relation to the material being covered in class. The assignments are long and time-consuming but quizzes aren't bad. However, the tests are never like anything discussed in class including the review and the questions are always worded to make no sense.
Professor Bauer is a nice guy and you can tell he really likes what he does, but the lectures can be boring and the weekly assignment are not the easiest things but they are definitely doable. The quizzes were not hard in my opinion and the tests I got about the same grade on all of them. He is good at what he does just can be boring at times.
He cares about the class and makes it welcoming. He is very laid back but will lecture the class if brought to his attention the lack of maturity of some college students on campus. Some get it others don't. He will help work with you in any situation. Emailing him still has to be professional as it should be regardless of how chill they are.
While yes, he posts zoom versions of the lecture online, even if you watch those and do the study guides, the tests are almost nothing like what you learned in class. The lectures are the most boring hour and 15 minutes of your life and it is very overwhelming once you fall behind.
He delivered content very clearly and the class was not stressful.
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. His ego is disgusting and could care less about his students.
Bauer was a great professor his class was easy and most of the time very interesting and relevant. I highly Recommend this class with Professor Bauer
I took GEO 135 with him last semester, and he is an ok teacher but his lectures are very boring and don't always make sense. He often talks about things that are not on the exam, and barely covers things that will be on the exam. His lectures will most likely put you to sleep, but the assignment and online quizzes every week are very easy.
Pretty boring class- quiz every week over a boring (sometimes hard to understand) article, a few assignments, and a few exams. Mostly vocabulary on the exams. Lectures are also boring. Would recommend for an easy A.
If you're looking for an easy Human Geography class, take this one. He does his best to make his material interesting and is a fairly interesting guy. I didn't show up for most of the semester and did well on all of the tests. Honestly, I would recommend going to his lectures, but mine was at 5 pm and that's usually my nap time.
Professor Bauer was a decently easy professor. Weekly assignments and quizzes (most answers on quizlet). The lectures were pretty boring but I felt that if I didn't go I would have not done well on exams. Exams were a little challenging, but if you go to class and study you should be fine. Great humor and an easy going guy.
i do not recommend this class. although the weekly assignments and quizzes are easy, he does not cover any material that are on the exams. i went to all the lectures and i still struggled with the material because he always went off topic and the lectures were so so boring. pick another professor if you can
I enjoyed his class. I got a 90% or higher on most of my exams. He made class fun, and he could always answer my questions when I had them. His slides are a little bear of information, and the pop quizzes can be a little misleading. However, I thoroughly enjoyed the class.
Personally I think this class could be taken online. He always posts the notes for you to access from the lectures. He does give out important information for the tests in the lectures though. Be careful, there is a lot of information on the tests that he does not teach.
He's a chill guy, weekly assignments and quizzes, easy most of the time. The test kinda suck because they're scantron but nothing crazy hard
Professor Bauer is one of the most chill professors I've had at ISU. He is very lecture heavy but they are usually interesting and he cares about what he teaches. He is a very caring professor.
Nice professor. Easy class. Attendance isn't mandatory, but it helps to attend regarding tests/quizzes. Homework assignment and quiz due each week but both are pretty easy. Tests are not too difficult either. Would recommend. I ended with a C but I also did not try very hard
If you want a good Geography class I couldn't recommend Bauer more. He does his best with the material he's given and does a fairly well job. The tests were pretty easy if you go to class and pay a little attention. He has four kids which he will bring up and some of his homework is pretty boring but he's a good professor.
His lectures were sometimes boring, but he realizes this and jokes around a little to cheer the mood. He cracks jokes and talks about his life since he has such a deep connection with geography. His TA Ethan is a champ and grades most of the work turned in, and his feedback is amazing. You get chances to correct your work sometimes too. Great guys.
each week consists of a quiz and an assignment that goes with each module. all quizzes are online and grades include 4 exams which are easy if you do notes and pay attention. slideshow is posted on canvas so class isn't exactly mandatory. professor Bauer was super nice and approachable. always cracking jokes, would take again
Even though it's a boring topic, he finds ways to make the class go by quickly. There are weekly assignments and quizzes which are extremely easy. Just study a decent amount for the exams and you'll be good. He helps a lot when exams are coming up, and will answer any questions you have about the exam.
This class was easy as long as you showed up. There's a lot of material. There is a homework assignment weekly and a quiz! A couple of exams too. I would recommend anyone to take this class. He's a funny guy. He also responds fairly quickly!! TAKE NOTES!!!!!
If you put in the effort then you will get an A. Weekly online quizzes, which are all on quizlet. Weekly assignments are very easy, do them to get the points. Tests can be hard if you don't study. Lecture was insanely boring. I never went to class and still got a 95. Easy A.
Amazing professor, as long as you go to class, and study you will be fine. Weekly 10 question quiz and a homework assignment. There were 4 exams but as long as you study and go to his class (especially the day before the exam) he does a review session and gives out some of the test answers.
He was a really good teacher when going through his lectures he tells you what exactly will be on the exam. Make sure you take notes. Go to class day before the exam he answers all your questions and gives you a good refresher. assignments can get a little bit confusing. (do not forget about his pet pig)
Professor Bauer is a guy who knows the material and is a very good professor compared to the others on campus. I had a family emergency and I missed the deadline for the quiz and an assignment and he replied the next day and opened them both for me he didn't have to do that, Highly recommend taking his class!
He's super chill and funny. There was one homework assignment and one quiz per week so it was pretty easy. Also each exam was easy.
Super great guy, hes very unf
Super nice guy, he wants you to do well and the class is fairly easy. Weekly quiz and assignments but they're pretty easy and quick. If you go to class he'll tell u exactly whats going to be on the exam during lectures so it makes things a lot easier.
Professor Bauer is an amazing professor with a real love for the subject. The only thing that really makes your grade is the 3 exams you take. Attendance isn't mandatory but I encourage you to go because they're interesting! Take this class as a Gen Ed because it's an interesting class!
Very chill guy that simply wants his students to succeed, lectures were fun to go to but I could understand why someone would think they're boring as it was less "lecturing" and more of just general discussion of the topics with the class. Very easy classwork only like 15 minutes/week, as long as you read lecture slides you're guaranteed a B.
Very good professor even for a 8am class he made it very interesting and even with like 300 people he still responds to all emails and is very understanding. Overall class was very easy and he has a lot of passion for it.
Great class to take as a GenEd. Bauer is a very easy going guy and so is this class. I never really stressed about exams or quizzes, going to lecture and writing notes was all I really needed. I really appreciate that he does not require a textbook, he will provide some excerpts from the book into lecture so you don't have to spend money.
Bauer says exactly what he means, but pretty nice guy. You can pass the class without going to the lectures, as long as you do the weekly quizzes/assignments you're all good. 3 exams, he gives a study guide for all. Just use the quizzes to study as well and you're all good.
great! go to class- he gives so many straight-up answers for tests. one homework assignment a week, one online open note quiz a week. Tests are in person. so easy and interesting.
Professor Bauer's lectures were absolutely not mandatory but when I did go, I enjoyed his lectures. He cares about the content. There was a weekly homework assignment and open note quiz. A few exams scattered throughout the semester in person and all multiple choice. Super easy to get an A even without attending lecture.
My gripes: Made a Holocaust joke Made a school shooting joke Flips through slides extremely quickly, and goes back and forth a lot very rapidly. Good luck taking notes Yaps about unrelated things for minutes on end, waste of time Constantly says "kitschy-cool" when he does not understand what that means I've had 2 classes with him. Don't do it.
It is a lecture based class but it not mandatory but it is nice to go because he will give hints on what coming on the exam. The class is a easy gen ed and he is a great guy and funny, just stay on top of the weekly assignments and quizzes and you will get an A, he also will sometimes curve exams and rounds grades.
Very chill dude. Explains things very well and uses euphemisms that relate to the topic and made me understand things more. No attendance, but showing up to lectures always left a smile on my face. I did fall asleep in a lot of them later on throughout the semester, but Bauer is a genuine good professor that is passionate about what he teaches.
Has assignments due on Fridays at 5:00 pm which I frequently miss since I have no class on Friday's so I recommend doing them ASAP. Lecture slides usually are posted but it helps to be in class, during review sessions STAY because he will literally give answers to the tests. He also gives vocab terms to know!
He goes over many assignments and will answer any questions you have. The final does not go over the entire semesters lectures, it works the same as all of the other exams we took.
Very lecture heavy but all slides posted. Thinks he's funnier than he is and brings up his kids a lot but he's entertaining. Gives answers to all study guides and basically tells you what the test is going to be. Super easy class as long as you pay attention to material. Would take his prof. again!
Super laid back. He does a lot of explaining in lecture, so definitely attend. He uses examples during lectures that make it super easy to understand. As long as you attend lectures and do all of your homework and quizzes, it's super easy. All of the work on homework and quizzes is usually present in the exams. Tests are in person, but just study!
You never have to go to class. He reads off the slides and posts them all. there are online quizzes each week and sometimes an assignment. He hosts review sessions the class before the exams, usually gives the answer of 10 questions that are on the exam.
I didn't show up to most of his lectures but attending wasn't mandatory. Quizzes and assignments are easy to do. You can barely study for his exams and end up getting a 70-75+. Just make sure to show up to class when he reviews his study guides for the exams.
He talks a lot during the lectures but it's mostly interesting. The homework given is easy, takes less than 15 minutes to do and it's due every Friday. I would say that the study guides for the tests are no help, but if you attend the lectures it's pretty easy. Just look over the slides he posts if you dont go to the lectures and youll be fine
The class was good but a bit boring. The homework is also easy and he would go over exam homework and gives the answers. Also a lot of time in his lecture he will tell you what's an exam answer is on the slides.
Lectures are boring and aren't required to go but you will have to study a lot for exams but they are straight foward with what he teaches. Assignments are all posted and you can get them done in the beginning of the week. He is quick to respond and if you try, you can for sure pass with a high B or A.
I took him for GEO 135 & 142 when I say TAKE HIM, I mean it! not a lot of homework at all, hes one of those teachers who understands not everyone in his class wants to do something with geography and his class is literally just copying down vocab and remembering it enough to pass the exams! easy to talk to I had a B+ in 135 and had an A+ for 142/5.
TA graded a little tough, but he added some extra points to make up for that. Responded to emails quickly, and the exams were pretty easy if you studied the PowerPoints.
an amazing professor. i cannot recommend him enough. I was an hour late to my exam (which had already ended) and he looked at me like I was an alien when I was begging him to let me take it: "Uh, yeah of course?" his lectures are very interesting and you can tell he loves what he teaches. he's very smart, so don't try to take advantage of him.
He's a very good teacher; he responds to emails very quickly. He always helps and make sure he put lecture videos in the canvas for you to find. Exams are very easy. 100% would recommend.
Right before the semester started he had to switch the class to be online. But, it actually ended up working out good! He answers emails super quickly, posts everything ahead of time, and is very organized. There are 3 tests and one final exam. There are weekly quizzes but they are so easy if you watch the lecture videos. The topics are interesting
I only had this course through online, but it was an easy class to pass. He'd post stuff on time, grade stuff at a decent time, and gets back to you fast through email. I wish I would've had him in person, he seems really smart and nice through the lecture videos that he posts.
All online open note, a lot of assignments but really easy to complete!
