Attendance is pretty strict. The tests are hard and the lectures are long! He does seem to enjoy his job and is always willing to offer help if you come to him.
Enthusiastic, helpful, knowledgeable. Powerpoint lectures, study guides for tests, good labs, not an easy course but survivable if you study.
I took General Bio w/Branson in a once a week night class setting with about 22 other people who didn't seem to care much at all about the material, so it made his job all that much harder. If you show up to class and study his power points along with your own notes and in class activities. Branson is eager to teach and has a wealth of knowledge.
Professor Branson is a great guy. As long as you attend class and pay attention and study (Like most any class) You'll pass with no problems. He's very clear with his PP lectures, and knows what hes talking about with loads of original content from his own head so hes not just another professor reading word for word off the power points.
I had him for both general bio and micro and he is a great teacher. Although his tests are challenging they are nt impossible. You have to pay attention and study but his class is fun and you learn alot!
I had Adam for Bio 150 and 175 this semester. He's a really cool guy (great sense of humor) and a great teacher. He knows his stuff and expects his students learn the material. His tests are hard, but he'll answer any questions you have, he's really helpful. Study and work hard and you'll make it through his classes.
Power Point instruction with little interjection of his own during lecture. Very poor time management which he credited to class overload. Which is poor planning. His labs are self taught from the lab manual for the most part he will cover the absolute must cover topics but expects you to accomplish the work on your on.
Good teacher! Very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. He's got a good sense of humor and he uses whatever means necessary, to explain complex topics. Tests are difficult, but he gives you the necessary resources to get a good grade.
Mr. Branson was really nice. He's kinda goofy and weird but he stayed on topic and made sure that everyone understood before moving on. He was very clear and helpful with labs too but his tests are kinda hard, lots of short answer! Overall, I'd take another course with him.
He might be a nice guy but his tests are ridiculous. More than half of his tests are short answer, are worth up to 5-10 points each, and require so much memorization it's crazy(study guides are a joke) The only good note is that lab points are basically a guarantee as long as lab procedures are taken with precaution.
I don't know what these people are talking about. His clarity is 0/10. He flys through material. His test is basically covering anything so you have about 1000 things to study. Tests are ridiculously hard, you get a small part wrong he takes of half of the points. I love bio, but he has ruined my interest. Too much, too hard, not enough time.
This is my second course (only because no one else offered it) and although better than his Micro, it still was just as bad. Branson goes so fast you don't even understand half of what he is saying and then asks if there are questions. What? There was no prereq but unless you are current with bio good luck! Makes derogatory comments constantly.
This teacher shouldn't teach online classes. He is not responsive to questions and does not answer emails. If he makes a mistake like not opening assignments, he will not give extra time to complete the work. He believes you should be working on his assignments every day for several hours and assigns that much work.
Great teacher who likes to move through material quickly as there is much to cover like any general science class. He emphasizes that if you are lost, he will stop and explain further. Test cover a lot of material, so studying his power points is a must. Although tests are very hard, he makes it possible to get a high grade by coming to every lab.
Worst teacher I have ever taken at Cape Fear. Lectures are confusing and hard to keep up with. Only 4 test and no extra assignments to help you out. Study guides are a joke. Tutoring is a joke seeing as the tutor gave me wrong answers on the study guide. does not care how hard you work or how much effort you put in. I transferred schools bc of him
If you're coming into this class expecting to cruise through, you're going to fail. That being said, Adam is a great professor. Maybe he's changed his style since a lot of these posts were written, but I find his lectures to be clear, informative, and easy to understand/follow. His quizzes & exams are straight forward. If you study, you'll do fine.
When I started this class I felt certain I would finish with a C at best. This class is hard, explaining the bad reviews But Mr. Branson is a smart and sometimes funny lecturer who really knows what he's talking about. If you need to ask questions he will stop lecture, but SPEAK UP! You must study everyday to get an A. I ended the class with a 98.8
Lectures are extremely confusing and fast paced. Labs are difficult to understand due to inability to clarify information, procedures, or questions. Gives vague answers when questions arise in lab. Only grades are are quizzes, tests, and 1 project.
This was the most confusing class I have ever taken. It was extremely difficult and he teaches very fast. There is a lot of material and not enough time to cover everything. He expects you to memorize EVERYTHING. This class almost made me re-think my career choice but I decided to take the class with a different teacher. I would not recommend!
I graduated as an A student at UNCW, Professor Branson literally sets you up for failure. He doesnt care about his students at all period. Im barely passing his class, you forget to sign into class once (had a huge convo with him that class and he knew you were there) and says "oh well". He also confuses things he says thinking he said them.
Highly difficult, even for Bio majors. Skips around during lectures. Study guides "there to promote thought" and do NOT help. Only grades are exams, quizzes, 1 project. Exams are 50/50 scantron/short answer. Late for exams/quizzes are AUTOMATIC zeroes w/no makeups! LOTS of info to memorize. Doesn't say what is on exams so difficult to study. AVOID!
The lectures in Adam's class were fast-paced and hard to follow. It was impossible to retain all necessary info for a single test. Gave vague answers are refereed students back to a powerpoint when presented with a questions. Labs were pointless and, just like his quizzes. He only grades tests, quizzes, and 1 project due at end of semester. AVOID!!
Even though I got a good grade, this was THE hardest class. He barely gives you direction for the test, and his study guides are just to make sure you understand the info; they hardly help on the test. He's extremely passive aggressive and rude at times and makes you feel bad for asking some questions. Do yourself a favor and do not take his class.
Let me put this in perspective for you: I have never failed a class in my life. I never gotten below a 93% in a class, and I have a 4.0 GPA. With that being said, I am failing this class. It'll be a miracle if I make it out with a C. I like him as a person and I know he's passionate about biology, but his teaching style could use improvement.
He is knowledgeable on everything he teaches, but in turn assumes most things are already known by his students. Asking questions will help, but EXTENSIVE test prep is ESSENTIAL! His tests are in depth and it is almost impossible to get As on them, and its still a feat to get close to an 80%. It takes a very dedicated student to pass.
Took this class & withdrawed. Only 3 grades; exams, quizzes, and a project. Quizzes every other lecture & are only 5 short answer questions so missing only 1 already puts you at a 75. The questions are super hard, study guides are pointless, & he carries an attitude that everyone should already know answers to everything. AVOID!!
His test are very difficult. There was a total of 11 of my friends in this class and only 1 was left at the end of the semester. If you want to destroy your GPA then this is the class to take.
I was excited for this class, I really wanted to delve into Microbiology , lab was the only fun/interesting part . Majority of your grade- quizzes which are only 5 Q's so if you miss even two you fail. He fly's through material and talks to you like you are stupid if you don't comprehend it. If you want to pass don't take it with this Professor.
I took this class with high hopes. Ive been excelling in my college career so far. BUT this class single handily made me want to quit school completely. The majority of the grades come from a 5 point quiz every week which could very in questions from 2 lectures and a previous lab. So basically you dont know whats gonna be on it Over all the note
Worst teacher I've ever had. You can study hard, memorize the entire chapter, all of his notes and study guides and still fail all of his quizzes and tests because the questions have little to do with what you have learned. He also speaks to his students very unprofessionally. Last, he makes it more of an advanced bio chem class than intro bio.
I am a very good student and have never struggled in a class until I took this course from Mr. Branson. His exams are based off what he says in class and not what is on his notes. He also gives out study guides that DO NOT help you with exams at all. Be prepared to take a quiz every week with only 5 questions. Avoid!!!
I've always done good in bio, but if I could give Branson less than a 1 I would. his test are based off memory and not notes or study guides. His grading is really tough for some reason we have to know everything he says. If you're a good student do not take this class save your time. My bio class went from a full lecture room of kids to 10.
Really tough. No leniency. Gives notes for you to copy on board and then gives open ended questions on them. Studied for hours and still am not passing.
While hes nice he has a way of being very condescending in his remarks. 5 question quizzes each day that all seem to be gotchya questions. Tests and quizzes were written answered questions which he grade incredibly harshly. I would not recommend to take this instructor.
Is knowledgeable but not a teacher. No amount of studying is enough, you'd better not have any other responsibilities because this will be your life for a few months if you want a passing grade. You won't know what to study so will spend hours focusing on incorrect things, very harsh grader. Is big on got-you Q's. Is nice but condescending.
He is a fantastic professor. He teaches you for the sake of teaching you. He is willing to help you with any questions you have about anything. He is available during his office hours and he isn't not condescending at all. He takes pauses in lecture to make sure everyone understands the info. Yes you have to actually have to study for this class.
He is a horrible professor. He is not willing to help. He does not give you any time for lab. He is extremely condescending and unprofessional. I am an A student and barely passed with a C, I studied daily for hours. I would not recommend him.
1-2 quizzes a week with five questions. His quizzes are not clear questions EVER. I am an A student a have failed the quizzes. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. He knows his stuff but grading policy sets you up for failure.
He would talk in the lectures super softly, once being asked if you could please speak up by another student. She was sitting in the 4th or 5th row and I was a sit behind her and I couldn't really hear him either. He quickly and still softly said I'm doing the best I can, which was not true, and shrugged his shoulder, then went back to teaching.
I found Mr. Branson's class very unclear- he spent too much time lecturing on the cell structure without clear view of where in Microbiology we could apply that material. His lectures were very plain, unorganized, no good examples or associations. I couldn't even stay through the lecture. I really hope that student's reviews will help him to improve
I'd like to add that I couldn't hear him very well sitting in the middle of the classroom, and recommended a microphone use for students to be able to absorb the material. I really hope that our feedback will help him to notice a need for improvement. I lost my money when I left the class, and hate that this will happen to other students.
Pros: Fun to converse with, will gladly answer interesting questions, teaches enthusiastically, provides a simple background in the fundamentals of chemistry. Cons: Weekly quizzes are near exclusively memory reliant, includes trivial facts in addition to the rest of the lectures, and requires a spoken presentation which can be uncomfortable to do.
He counted me absent once because I forgot to sign in and I think that's a pretty unfair policy. I never missed class. I studied for hours upon hours but his quizzes and tests always had a few questions that caught me off guard and I didn't know. His study guides don't help at all and he expects you to remember things he barely touched on.
Only grades tests and quizzes, homework and lab is never for a grade and while he will answer your questions if you have them; most all the kids in my class struggled to keep a passing grade. Most ended up withdrawing .
He was definitely a subject matter expert but lacked the ability to transfer that knowledge to his students. Extremely condescending, offered extra help with problems but never posted the answers or further explanation, so you had no idea if you were answering them correctly or not.
I have always done well in all my classes, especially science and math. I always felt like I knew the material well going into the exams but would repeatedly fail them. The exams were a lot of short answer questions that required a lot of detail. No amount of studying was enough. If the exams were multiple choice I may have passed.
By far the worst teacher I have ever had. He assigns chapters and quizzes you on them at the end of the week. HOWEVER, no matter how much studying you do you will not pass. The material he provides will in no way aid you with the quizzes/tests. The labs are enjoyable because they aren't made by him thankfully. Never taking his class again. Beware.
If I could rate this guy a zero, I would. He does not teach. He tells you what to read and then offers zero information about it. Also, quick to accuse of plagiarism. Do not memorize information because it will happen to you. Had to retake the class and now I have an A. He has no business being a professor. Waste of my time and money.
I don't ever want to just bash someone online, but this guy really is in it for himself. Some professors you can tell are there for students and want to see them grow, others are there for their ego. Take someone else and save time and money.
Professor Branson wants you to know the material and understand it, he will be patient with you as long as you are trying. You will have to study! and you will need to be able to articulate biology because there will be some short answer
Grades too harshly for an intro class. Will look for mistakes on the Gram staining just to deduct points. Is condescending will accuse you of cheating/plagiarism and will give you a zero without talking to you about it. STAY AWAY FROM THIS CLASS get Dr. Walters
This is my first review of anything ever. I feel so strongly about this teacher I had to say something. He seems to have it out for students. His expectations and grading are unrealistic for this level of class, and his level of teaching. Save your sanity, and put your time, effort, money towards a teacher who cares about students success.
I am a straight-A nursing student and this class was terrible... His tests are the hardest tests and you are not given the information needed to do well on his test, same goes for ALL the quizzes. He doesn't give you an explanation of why he counts questions wrong, I think he just counts them wrong for no reason. DO NOT TAKE- IDK how I got a B
The absolute worst teacher ever. I was so glad to see that he had such a low rating. I wish I would have checked before taking his class. He doesn't care about his students and doesn't even teach. He has you read the book but never explains anything. Terrible grader and I have to retake the class but of course I will not take him. DO NOT TAKE HIM.
If I could give him a 0 I would. Do not waste your time with his class. His exams are timed and not even all multiple choice. He expects you to be a mind reader and know every detail of information. He has questions on the exams that you need to write paragraph answers for and chances are if you dont word it exactly the way he wants you will fail.
It’s a hard class and he’s an unforgiving professor. I don’t think he wants his students to do well. He doesn’t extend explanation for his grading or communicate very much. I’m in his remote class and we came back from spring break Monday and he hasn’t made any announcements since March 3 (it is the 16th now)
I honestly hate his class. Worst teacher ever! He is not understanding about assignments AT ALL. His class is time consuming and he doesn't tell you how he wants you to do the assignments and will give a bad grade. For one lab it took me 2hrs to do and he gives us 3 a week at most. Overall my experience with him is not good. DON'T TAKE HIS CLASS!!
If u want to have a mental breakdown all the time take his class
I do not recommend Adam Branson's class to anyone. He gives TONS of work with information that's never included in the lectures or textbook. One bad grade will set you back the whole semester and he shows ZERO compassion whatsoever. His goal is not to teach his students and see them succeed but rather to see them struggle to boost his own ego.
I worked really hard and it still seemed like I was going nowhere. He is a very stingy grader. The work isn't necessarily HARD but it is very time consuming which makes his class extremely difficult. Each lab that was given took me HOURS to do and he gave us (at most) 3 labs a week. If you have him, good luck.... you'll need it.
Extremely hard class. Professor Branson is extremely passionate about biology. He seems to be a bit better than he was in the past, however he gives absolutely NO leniency. There is so much work. In total you have to do roughly three to four labs a week + quizzes. I have mental breakdowns constantly
Do not waste your time or money on this one. This class is already hard but he makes it unnecessarily more difficult. His homework and exams have material not covered and he will say everything but the answers to your questions. Very strict and obviously doesnt care about his students or their learning.
Sets you up for failure. He says to focus on anywhere from 5-12 pages of learning outlines and expects you to memorize all of it but then tricks you by not even using half of it. This class is a joke. Dont expect him to answer your questions clearly either or answer your emails when you have tough questions like about what happened with grading.
would never recommend him as a professor for any class. he gives an unreasonable amount of time for the exams - 60 minutes for extremely hard questions, leaving you guessing on the last few questions. the homework is not bad at all but the quizzes are difficult but nothing compared to the exams.
The worst professor EVER. He's rude, & extremely unhelpful in every circumstance. You'll be teaching yourself the course the entire semester while he uses class time to express that he's unhappy with the class for not understanding the subject or parts of a project. Better off to take this class online or with another professor all together.
Mr. Branson is by far one of the worst teachers I have ever had. He does not care about his students being successful in his class, he only makes you feel stupid. Tests with over 80 ?s TIMED for 60 mins with NO other resources. I am not sure how CFCC has not fired him with all of these bad reviews. I got a D-, I am in honors and had a 4.0 GPA.
I have never dropped out or withdrawn from any of my classes but his. His quizzes are set off a time of five minutes for more than ten questions. I would wake up the next day to get a notification that says I missed an assignment and received a zero. When I emailed him about it, he did nothing. Do not take this class.
He doesn't respond to emails and harsh grading, ask for pictures of everything even if you're watching a video for an assignment. He doesn't necessarily care if you're sick unless hospitalized.
I had him for an online class where you had to order a lab kit. One week after the class started, the first lab was due. If you did not receive the lab kit in the mail yet you will fail the lab because it will not unlock until you receive your kit. He offers absolutely no extensions when students cannot control the mail.
AVOID HIM AT ALL COSTS!!! a quiz every single class with no makeup, even if you are on your deathbed. the harshest grader and so rude, in person and online. does not respond to emails and posts assignments the day before they are due, and does not help you at all!!!
Mr. Branson is too smart for his own good. It makes it feel like its hard for him to understand that people process things slower than he does. He also feeds off the one or two students answering questions, and moves on from material quickly just becuase those one or two students understoood. He is not understanding of outside situations at all.
If you want to take a biology class with a professor that will attempt to help you with labs and assignments, that is understanding of any unfortunate circumstances you are undergoing outside of their class, and will thoroughly explain the curriculum's material, do NOT take Biology with Mr. Branson. He will not answer your emails, and won't help.
Really harsh grader and does not tolerate late work for anything. He regularly forgets to post assignments and when you email him about it, it takes him at least 2 days to respond. Then he posts it late and does not change the due date.
All around the worst professor I have ever had. He grades labs very slowly, is late to post assignments, and is impossible to get in contact with.
Do not take his class. He will give you a 0 for ANY mistake on an assignment, including titling it without the class name.. Also never responds to emails, takes forever to grade, and grades harshly. The syllabus also says he takes 1week minimum to grade labs, but expect 3-4 weeks and you'll probably fail anyway.
awful
This teacher had me so frustrated I was ready to drop the class in the middle of the semester, lose all my money, and take it again with a different professor. Avoid at ALL costs. I wouldn't take this class with this teacher even if I needed one more class to graduate and this was the only one available. Also does NOT give spring break!!!! BE AWARE
Will give you a 0 at any chance possible and will not help you. Not helpful. Labs are ridiculous and it will cost you to get materials for labs that he does not tell you about prior to taking the class. Does not grade anything on time either. If your lucky it'll be 3-4 weeks.
Unless you have excessive photographic memory, this class isn't for you. The test uses questions that are not shown in the chapters, leaving you pulling your hair out before you answer the first one.
Targeted exam questions are extremely difficult, and the study material is a joke compared to the quizzes
Does not respond to emails at all. I read the syllabus and emailed him the way he requested 3 times, and I never received a response. Feedback and grading skills are very tough. I also had to buy supplies that were not supplied in the Lab kit so beware. Overall, please pick a different professor.
I am writing this because I had a random thought about how I had him at BCC in 2015 - STAY AWAY from this professor if you can, he is the absolute worst teacher ever and I am surprised he even has a job still, toughest grader I have ever had and that says a lot as now I am in a masters program and I still remember this nightmare of a teacher.
Majority of grade was based off of tests and 5 question quizzes. Does not prepare you for either of those things and just throws a ton of information at you and expects you to know it all and more.
If you read the ratings after registering, don't freak out, he's not bad it's just that doing well at his class requires a significant amount of studying and Mr. Branson explains things in a unique way. Prepare for trick questions on tests, study frequently, take notes and you will do well. He's far from being a mean instructor, just challenging.
He's extremely test & quiz heavy but often times gives extra credit assignments or take home exams which are extremely beneficial considering how tough of a grader he is. Super nice guy, extremely smart, only negative is that he can go kinda quick sometimes so make sure to bring a notepad and pay attention. All around, I've enjoyed Mr. Branson.
If your head literally pops off your body and you physically cannot do an assignment there is no earthly way he will reopen it. For no reason. Incredibly frustrating to be practically emailing a brick wall when you pay a lot of money for the class and are more than happy to submit the assignments with a lower grade
Do not take this class. I was nervous before the class started because of the reviews but I am telling you they are true. You have to teach yourself everything and it's still not enough. He gives you the information halfway and then test you on connecting things you didn't even know were in relation. I have all As but this class I am failing.
I honestly didn't enjoy the class whatsoever. I had done the assignments correctly and yet I was getting 0's. I had needed to provide pictures of it, but he wasn't very specific that we HAD to do it; wasn't mentioned at ALL. Though I did neglect one thing, I feel as if I deserved a better grade since he wasn't specific with instructions AT ALL.
