Take any class you can with Adam! He is an awesome teacher and literally the best one I have had a UA by far! Really likes discussions and brings a lot of different, but neutral views to the table. So sad I ran out of classes that I could take him!

Awesome teacher- you can really tell he is invested in the subject and in his students. The two classes I've had with him have been smaller classes and he orchestrates it so by the end of the semester you will have made friends with almost all of your classmates- A+ teacher- would definitely take a course with him again

I loved this class. Not only is Adam the BIGGEST BOSS EVER, but he is also an effective instructor who encourages his students to consider and challenge opposing views on sensitive subjects. I learned quite a bit in this class, as well as gaining more interest in social issues. I also highly enjoyed the(fun)class discussions!

Adam Sharples is one of the most amazing teachers you will ever encounter. He is a one in a million individual who truly, truly, cares about his students and not how much they learn for a test but what they will take away from his classes and use in their lifetime. Truly an amazing teacher with great work ethic. TAKE HIM!!!!! You wont regret it!

Let me just say that Sharples is by far the most helpful and substantial professor I have ever had at this University. Let alone any other school I have attended. Sharples is easy because he makes you want to be in class which in return allows you to succeed to the best of your ability. I am an average student and literally LOVE going to class!

Adam is the best! He is very into the material himself so it makes it super easy for the students to be engaged as well. He is so fun and he really knows his stuff. He picks pop culture artifacts that are popular among students. As long as you go to class and listen you're golden. There was one test, a few papers and a group project.

Best com teacher at UA! So helpful with outlines for speeches. Utilize him for help as much as possible. If you fear public speaking, you won't by the end of the semester. Awesome teacher!

Professor Brooks is great! His lectures are interesting and he clearly covers the material. He has a good sense of humor to keep the more boring material interesting and always has an answer to any questions. Take him if you can!

Dr. Brooks made my 9am on Wednesdays so enjoyable! He's very passionate about what he teaches and is one of the funniest professors I have had thus far. You'll need the text book for your quizzes that are due, but besides that, he covers everything you need to know in lecture. As long as you show up and do your part, it's relatively an easy A.

His lectures weren't terrible to sit through however you have to go to sign in for attendance or get a friend to sign you in. I didn't find the lecture information very important. everything you need to know for this class is told to you in your lab which is where you get your speech grades.

Dr. Brooks is pretty amazing. He makes class relate able which is a plus! Take him for COM 123!!!!!!!!!!! No book just online code. You can't miss more than 3 classes without a point deduction.

Professor Brooks is the best professor I have had thus far at the University of Alabama. He genuinely cares about his students and goes out of his way to make sure he is available to help everyone. His lectures are hilarious and interesting. Everyone, and I mean everyone, should take this class. He really helps to prepare you for the real world.

I LOVE Dr. Brooks! He is truly amazing! This was one of my harder classes but also the most fun! He made me want to do better! I learned so much and I can take it with me after college. We had two big papers (one was a group paper) they aren't hard if you apply what you learned in the class! One midterm (easy if you studied) Take him!

Dr. Brooks is simply wonderful, but be ready to take an upper level course. Readings are dense but he makes them fun, the only thing I would have changed about this course was the group project but even that wasn't that bad. I would 100% take a class of his again! If you have the chance to learn from him I recommend you take it!

Dr. Brooks is amazing. Obviously lectures are his strong suit because he's a public speaking professor, but there is never a dull moment in his class. He is always showing funny videos or making great jokes or doing something that gets the class involved, which is usually very difficult with a large group of students. I definitely recommend him!

Was absolutely terrified of public speaking (and slightly still am) but his class definitely helped me overcome a lot of my anxiety about it. I am in no way one of the best speakers, but somehow have an A in the class, so it is not an impossible class. He does take attendance but his lectures are entertaining and understandable. Would recommend.

Dr. Brooks' lectures were one of my favorite parts of the week. He is funny and tells good stories and genuinely cares about his subject matter and his students. COM 123 is easy enough if you do what you're supposed to do. Would definitely recommend Dr. Brooks for anyone taking COM 123.

He was my favorite teacher I've had so far at UA. He is interesting, makes you think in different ways, and wants you to succeed. You have to go to class no matter what or else you will not do well. There are random textbook reading quizzes, a midterm, a few papers, and a large group project at the end of the semester.

He is a great professor and I recommend going to class because attendance does effect your grade. For this course you only see him in one huge lecture tho, so it really matters who your TA is because he/she is the one that grades your speeches.

One of the best teachers I have ever had. He is a fantastic speaker, which is a good thing because he teaches public speaking. He is motivating to his students to stand up for what they believe and he makes you think. If you read this far into my opinion, good job. Take this teacher and you will enjoy everything about him. So he is very funny and nice but is kind of a low key narcissist. He will made side comments to you and indirectly insult you in a funny way which I loved and got a kick out of but may offend some people. The lecture is once a week and he does take attendance but it's pretty entertaining.

This guy is awesome. He is so funny and makes the lectures really engaging. You need to show up for lectures and lab for attendance points. This class is an easy A. The only thing you need from the textbook is to take the quizzes which are super easy. He clearly outlines what he expects in your speeches.

Dr. Brooks is awesome! His lectures are very entertaining and inspirational. The class itself is not too hard, there are 4 speeches and you just have to be able to take the time to write and memorize your speeches. I did not put in a ton of effort and am passing with flying colors.

COM 123 is a truly great class for anybody at UA to take. Dr. Brooks is very energetic and sets a great example of what great public speaking should look like. Pretty much all of the grading for this course comes in the lab, though.

By far my favorite professor I've taken. Makes the lectures interesting and applicable and makes sure you're aware of deadlines. He genuinely wants to see his students succeed, and helps to make public speaking seem easier. The book is needed for quizzes, and he uses the chapters for his notes. It's a very enjoyable class!

Dr. Brooks is a fantastic professor. He is a great public speaker (makes sense, as he teaches public speaking) and really cares about his students' well-being. There are attendance quizzes but lecture only happens once a week. There are also quizzes in the online textbook, but if you pay attention and read you'll do great. Highly recommend!

Honestly, I never once did anything out of my way for this class. I literally sat in lecture and watched criminal minds and still got a 98

Brooks was awesome, his lectures were required which sucked sometimes but he was a very entertaining professor and his approach on public speaking made it super easy. All around a great guy, very easy to talk to, and genuinely wants his students to become comfortable with public speaking and succeed.

Dr. Brooks is the best professor I have ever had. I was extremely nervous to take public speaking, but now I can say that I would be able to give a speech confidentially and effectively thanks to Dr. Brooks! Love him and his inspirational speeches!

Dr. Brooks is really helpful and is very entertaining while teaching. You can tell he really loves what he does. COM 123 was my easiest class this semester. If you don't mind speaking infront of people and you apply yourself some you'll do fine.

Adam Brooks' lectures were very interesting, and I learned a lot. You do learn things out of order at times, so beware of that. The quizzes were easy and lecture attendance was optional. However, SHOW UP TO YOU LAB. You will fail this class if you don't. Also, prepare for your speech! Too many people embarrassed themselves by not being prepared.

wow where do i begin! take him i promise he is amazing. he cares so much about his students and the lectures are fun but not mandatory but we do have attendance quizzes. go to your lab or you will fail. he is an amazing, motivational teacher and was so helpful when i went in for office hours. an easy class just dont procrastinate your speeches!

Dr. Brooks set up this class every well. He is a funny guy and you can tell he cares about his students even if the class is huge. I would recommend any one who needs to take public speaking to take it with Dr. Brooks as your lecture professor.

I literally love dr brooks his lectures were the only ones i looked forward to going to. The only grades are the lab speeches, which even if you give a little bit of effort youll pass (at least with my lab instructor)

Dr. Brooks is extremely charismatic and a great lecturer. While his lecture is not mandatory for class performance, I would most definitely recommend showing up. Lab is easy if you put in any effort.

Dr. Brooks has been my favorite teacher at UA BY FAR. He is so amazing and really cares about his students. His lectures are so funny and he's really good at getting your attention and the time just flies by. If you have the opportunity to take Dr. Brooks- DO IT!!! He's AMAZING!

Public speaking can be scary, but this class was so easy! You are not taking in front of a lecture class, you do your speeches in your labs of 20 people. I loved the class and I would take this class over and over if I could just for Dr. Brooks! Take him!!!

Dr. Brooks is the ABSOLUTE BEST. He is funny, smart, and genuinely cares about his students. I met with him multiple times outside of class and although we started the conversation about school work, we also just sat and talked about other things for longer. He is accommodating if you come to class & take the opportunities he gives for extra credit

Dr. Brooks is absolutely hilarious! He does lecture until the end of class. Even though participation is not required, it is in your best interest to attend. He can be short-fused if you do not give him the attention he deserves. However, it is deserved in every moment I have witnessed. I recommend him to everyone I know!

Dr. Brooks always has big lectures so everyone knew there were ways around to get your attendance points when not going, but I loved going to his lecture. He makes people laugh and every week and he intros the work and project you will be doing in the 'lab' classes so I always thought it was worth it. Also try for James Dubuisson as a lab teacher!

Your experience in this class is mainly dependent on your TA, but Brooks was awesome in lecture and I recommend him! Attendance is mandatory for lab & lecture, but you get 3 absences in lab. 1 reading quiz every week with a drop, 4 speeches, and a few more little assignments. Public speaking is obviously scary, but the class itself was very easy!

Such a good teacher. His lectures helped and he was always there to talk to after. The only thing I would say is his Prezi lectures can get confusing as he skips through certain parts and runs out of time. But because he has a public speaking degree hes so good at talking.

Adam Brooks is a great professor for Public Speaking. His lectures are entertaining, and he truly understands how to keep students engaged. I've only seen him positively since my first impressions. He is accessible through office hours and commonly attends labs, he wants to help you succeed! Attendence is graded, so try to attend lectures.

One of the best professors here at UA. Attendance is mandatory, but lectures are great so not an issue. The main grader though is your TA, Kaitlyn Johns was the best, but I hear most of them are great as well. Everyone is super helpful and lots of extra credit opportunities, as long as you put in the effort you will do well. 4 speeches to give.

Never went to lecture for public speaking, the TA taught me basically everything. But super easy going guy from the classes I did go to and the emails he would send.

Attendance is mandatory for lectures, but Dr. Brooks is amazing and super entertaining. Even if you're scared of public speaking, you only have two big speeches and you do them in front of your lab classmates and TA.

Professor Brooks is one of the best Professors here. He is so easy to talk to and very personable. He explains each assignment very well and tells you exactly what you need to do to get a good grade. Attendance does matter because it is calculated in your final grade, but he makes his lectures interesting so I didn't mind.

Make sure you go to lab. That is where a majority of class grades are from. It's a great class! I got over my fear of public speaking

Dr. Brooks is great at what he does. He's an incredible speaker, makes his lectures relatable and interesting and cares about his students. Grading is made clear, and attendance is mandatory, but show up and do the work and you'll be golden.

If you attend the lecture section of the course, it will be interesting. He clearly knows what he's talking about, and I feel he knows how to teach his course efficiently. Sometimes, the lecture doesn't really match up with what is happening in the lab, but if there is a speech coming up, he will discuss what is needed for that speech, which helps.

As an engineering student this class is a good break from the hard work load. Sometimes there is busy work but if you get it all done on that first weekend the class is a breeze. The TA's can be tough with grading so I don't know if I'd recommend this to someone who isn't comfortable with public speaking, but if you know what you're doing it's A+

Great teacher, but this class will be a hit or miss depending on who your TA is for your labs. He is so funny and easy to talk to. I recommend this class to all my friends. It's an easy A and fun (if you're into speaking). You only have to speak in your assigned lab groups.

He is such a great teacher. You only go to his class once a week, and then go to lab with his TA's so it really depends on which one you have. Theo is his best TA, but Dr. Brooks is very caring and a great teacher.

Very good teacher! Lecture is once a week and attendance is taken in lectures and labs. Plenty of opportunities to get extra credit, 4 speeches due in labs the whole semester. Overall easy class, not a harsh grader, weekly McGraw Hill quizzes. You don't have to be good at pubic speaking to get an A in this class.

Dr. Brooks is an amazing professor. He makes sure to use lecture time wisely and fills it with important or interesting topics. His class is pretty easy as long as you follow directions for speeches and attend class but he offers extra credit assignments if needed.

Dr. Brooks is without a doubt the greatest professor I've ever had. He is really funny and an incredibly engaging speaker. He's straightforward and legit, always gets right to the point. His lectures are some of the few that don't bore me. You can tell how passionate he is, and the class is not difficult if you put in the work.

One of the best professors I have had the pleasure of taking during my undergrad. Excellent professor who truly wants to help you grow. TA was Jade Larson, she was fine, not super memorable but satisfactory. Overall take Brooks if you have any possible choice.
