A young professor who will probably improve over time. Reading was pretty useless, since his lectures were based entirely on what we were supposed to have read. Tests were overly difficult & study guides were pretty useless; he asked broad questions & looked for minute details. A little arrogant, but that could change over time.

Decent professor, but worst test writer in the world. He prides himself on not giving the least shred of help to study for his tests so you have no focus to concentrate on even though you've covered tons of information. Avoid him if you want a grade that reflects your learning.

I loved Brown's campaign class. He is an engaging teacher, loves politics, and it was clear he really wanted us to learn. His tests were absolutely doable, but you have to pay attention to the "key terms" and "lecture questions." Do that and you'll be fine. He even gives you the essay questions for the test ahead of time!

This was a very easy class. I got an A- with no effort at all. For a good grade all you have to do is attend EVERY class, take meticulous notes, and cram for about four hours with your notes before each exam. Don't bother with the readings. The only other part of your grade is a fun application paper. Brown is very structured in teaching the class.

Best professor ever. The class is well-organized with clear deadlines and such. Each lecture is clear--Brown starts by showing us an outline for the day, then ends by reviewing specific terms we should understand and going over a list of review questions. Lectures are engaging and fun. No complaints; strongly recommended.

Like an earlier commenter said, great professor but he'll make you work. But you'll do fine if you just ask for help. Stop by whenever, even if it's not office hours. I visited him for an hour before each exam asking questions. It's a tough class if you don't ask for help, but he was happy to help me understand things.

great and enthusiastic professor. His expectations were a bit overwhelming for me though. I thought some of the key words taught in class were vague-- ie. you could not find concepts in the book or they weren't clearly stated in lecture slides. On the flipside, he is always clear that he is willing to help via office hours and email

1st time teaching PLSCI 110. Expectations were WAY too high. This should have been a 4 credit class. Read at least 1-2 chapters a night, plus other assigned articles, iClicker quizzes every class, 2 page paper due every Friday, 3 Exams all had 120 questions on them. Pl Sci interests me but this class was BORING. Recommend taking from someone else.

This class is tough. The trick to do well on the tests is to do the online textbook practice tests and go to the TA reviews weekly. To do well on the debate papers, ask a TA to go over it with you as you write it. To do well on the daily in-class quizzes, give yourself an hour or so immediately before each class period to do the extensive readings.

Brown was a great professor, very funny and relatable. The only downside to the class was the butt ton of reading that applied to both tests and frequent iclicker quizzes, which you can bypass if you're devoted by going to an earlier section and just getting it from there (don't think that's necessarily legal). 3 tests, 3 papers, extra credit.

Professor Brown's lectures were engaging and he provided a fair grading system. The workload is heavy, but manageable with good time management. Unstuckstudy was a lifesaver for exam prep.

This is probably the worst professor that I have had at BYU. Was not helpful after under performing on the exams. Did not allow athletes to be excused from classes even while traveling and in season for athletics. Exams are way too hard for a 100 level class. Honestly this class sucked and he expected to work/study outside of class way too much

Interesting Class but pretty difficult. Really hard to pay attention during lectures and tests are based heavily off of long boring lectures. Some of the stuff is interesting just hard to stay focused for such a long time and retain that much info. He also uses his own website instead of canvas or learning suite which is hard to navigate.

This class is so hard! I think Professor Brown tries to make it doable, but there is just a lot of information, a lot of reading, and really hard tests. He does try to help and provides lots of office hours, so if you want to get a good grade, expect to be with the TA's often.

Honestly, this class was so invigorating. I am a business student, but learned so much about the United States and how it operates. I really liked his teaching style. If you don't do the readings, you will be lost. Make sure to fill out the study guide in class during lectures so you know how to do well. Take it if you like reading

Very good professor, highly recommend. Very informative classes with solid explanations of concepts. Explicitly states what you need to do to get an A. Only gripe is that the there is a bit too much reading assigned creating a pretty big workload and he also uses his own website instead of Learning Suite and his website is a bit wonky.

Professor Brown is an awesome teacher, even though I got a C in the class. He provided so many chances to get good grades in his class, However the class relies a lot on how well you do the test. The test are all multiple choice but they are very difficult because the questions are worded hard.

Mandatory attendance, way too much reading for a 100 level class, and confusing wording on questions where he'd even write questions that were incorrect. Overall if it's your only option to take from him it's not bad but it's way too much reading and work, and confusing wording on tests.

Only 5 assignments (mini essays, 500 words, easy) for the whole semester. 3 tests. Lectures are packed with info, so pay attention and go to class - the powerpoints WILL NOT CUT IT FOR TEST, you NEED to take notes during lecture. TA's rocked. Test's aren't bad if you take good notes and study. Quizzes you can get by not doing the MANY readings.

Could not recommend this class more. Brown is incredibly thoughtful and wants every student to learn. Phenomenal lectures. It is test-heavy, but he gives you so many resources to succeed (all lecture recordings are available). There is a lot of reading, but he gives you a study guide that points out what specific things you need to learn from it.

Professor Brown was amazing. I've always hated history, but I genuinely enjoyed his class. There are quite a few readings, but they are made up for by not having too many homework assignments. As long as you follow the study guide while doing the readings and watching the lectures, the exams aren't that bad.

Professor Brown was great! His class was clear and his criteria was understandable. The daily quizzes barely make a dent to your grade, but there are plenty of papers and 2 midterms that balance it out. His class is usually engaging, but sometimes it can be boring. He is a nice grader and cares deeply about each student. He's super funny and kind.

He was clear on expectations, class structure, and taught so well. Gave great lectures and explained complex ideas clearly. The class wasn't hard but was still challenging enough to keep me engaged. I had basic government knowledge from a class I took in HS and I was intimidated to take this class. The key to doing well in this class: he literally bases lecture off of the study guide so copy and paste it into a doc and fill out the answers as he goes through it in class. Stay caught up on the readings and you'll do fine.

I would highly recommend Professor Brown. He is extremely organized, and although there are some readings, they are SO easy to find. He is very understanding and does not grade too harshly. If you do the BASIC work, you will pass easily. The lectures are also on Zoom, so if you can't make it in person, that is really helpful. A useful class.

easily one of the best professors I've had at BYU. - A bit of reading if you don't do it you probably wont get an A. (Reading shows up on kahoot and exams) - 5 super easy short essays with enjoyable topics you get to choose from a list. Not super time consuming - Lectures that you have to pay attention to, so much of exam content comes from lecture
