SOOOoo unhelpful and uninthusiastic. Will not go the extra mile to answer questions. Is very cocky. Asks for feedback but then tries to deny everything bad that we say. Doesn't try to have a good knowledge of the subjects taught.
Absolutely terrible prof. failed course because of him, When i asked for help he was still unclear. If you see his name attached to a course... drop it.
Very tricky midterms, but the final was ok. Tries to help the student. He should improve his french.
Good prof, takes time to listen. Enthusianstic and helpful. Loves to challenge his students.
He gives the hardest exams, he is english and teaches a french class, therefore the sentences dont make sense. But he does have some good work experience
Prof. Brown teaches biology in a way that makes biology interesting. He explains in a way that I can understand because he repeats several times to make it stick.
overall good prof, expects alot from his students but hey we're in university, gives lots of examples, expect his students to listen, his mid term are hard but they're fair
Friendly and knows his stuff...loves the subject but is kinda cocky, as in he thinks he's all that...his exams are fair, and as long as you go to the lectures and study you should be find. Personally I hate the content just because it's not my thing, but if you like it I guess it could be a good class.
He is a good teacher, but sometimes he is not intresting.
Has good examples but always uses the same ones. He really likes to talk about himself. Funny at times but it's hard to know when he is because he is somewhat monotone when he talks. You really have to know you're stuff to do really good on his midterms.
Interesting course, not much of a workload. Dr. Brown knows his stuff and has great teaching skills.
Good teacher and keeps most of the lectures interesting with neat facts and examples of his own works. Exams are hard to get used to as he tests on his example - he's cocky that way. Learn his examples and you'll do excellent. He is still "New" but well on his way. He has improved a lot since september.
A fair teacher. Honeslty people who insult him about his french are disrespectufl. You are lucky enough to be in a bilingual University and that this course is even offered in french. I find he speaks it well enough to understand the content. However he should have more availability to answer questions and some questions on his exams are not clear
This prof is hard but fair. He really expects you to know everything from his lectures and the textbook. He sometimes has questions on the exams that we did not cover in class, but we did cover the same concept and he expects you to be able to conect the concept. His exams are HARD! the class average for our 2nd mid term was 45%. know EVERYTHING!
Great prof! intressting class, if you can have this teacher take him. His french is really good and he makes lectures interresting. Be ready to relate concepts to specific examples and you will do fine on exams.
For a first year intro course, this professor was overly demanding and tricky. However, he knew his stuff and moved through it quickly and clearly. It was quite important to attend the classes. If you're a model of studious perfection and love to attend class more than anything in life, this prof is for you.
list of keywords: well, y dont you just give us the textbook to memorize word for word? and y do only the people who failed get to loose one midterm mark.. awfully unfair! they can end up woth a higher mark than the people who actually passed!! ps. this course was supposed to be a grade 12 equivalent: not even close!
If anyone is thinking of taking this course with this prof, PLEASE DON'T! I can't even explain how difficult this course was and how heavy the load was. It took over my life..... and i still didn't do extremley well. I am usually an A stundent and this course pulled down my average, SO PLEASE STAY AWAY!! YOU HAVE BEEN FORWARNED!
He was a great prof. He expects you to know what he taught in the lectures....shocking, i know! For me, it was very interesting. As far as the 2nd midterm, i got a 91% and was shocked by the 45% avg. It was A LOT easier than the 1st midterm. He only expects you to know the lectures and allow the text to compliment lectures. He's is MORE than fair
The prof definitely improved over the semester! Small finishing touches: becoming more acquainted with his slides + answering questions on 'our level'.My high school science courses were 10 yrs ago,so this was a GREATLY ENJOYED refresher. If you're not into science, his course will take EFFORT but he's very very fair...(also rated on Nov 21/07)
He is a missionary of Morris dance and a prof in disguise ...don't let him convert/recruit you! He's extremely cocky.
There is something about adam brown that I loved...until his first exam! If you don't write it the exact way and in teh same words he wants it in, you will not do well, even if you clearly understand the concept. His mots cles are a waste of time, but if you skip one that you have never herd of, chances are it will on the exam. The 2nd was easier!
Adam Brown is an amazing lecturer; he makes the subject interesting, goes out of his way to explain everything well, and peppers everything with his own sense of humour. His tests are the killer, though; they're very nitpicky, clearly designed so that the results will end up in a nice bell-curve. Be prepared to work hard for your grade.
Dr Brown is a wonderful prof. His lectures are simply fascinating, hes very animated and passionate about what hes teaching and it shows. He is very fair, and whoever says he isnt just didnt work hard enough. You will defenitly not breeze through his class on last minute cramming but he isnt tough, you just have to know the material.
Really BAD teacher!! Expected people to know way too much for what was supposed to be a basic first year class.
Very good lecturer, impressed at his French speaking skills since he was clearly not raised in French. The class is super interesting but be sure to attend class and take down lots of notes. His tests are fair and he pushes you to work hard for your grade but that is what first year classes are all about... teaching you how to learn.
Though he is a good lecturer and is clearly very well educated on his topic, I found it terrible how our class average for the first midterm was 45% and for the second midterm was around 50%. The class is supposed to be the equivalent of a grade 12 biology class but instead, it was filled with tricky exams!
His lectures can be tough to follow so it is important to read the book. Over all as a prof I think that he is ok, but he is a fairly new prof and I think that given a few years he will be great. His exams are very difficult though, especially for a grade 12 equivalent course. Like I said before - READ the book.
Mistakes in his slides, exams : tricky and so is the correction. Good prof.
He tests more on memorization of examples and random fancy words in the slide show than on actual knowledge. Test questions are often unclear. Extremely difficult to find a meeting time that suits him.
unclear expectations, fails to remember that the course is a grade 12 equivalent for anyone to take, tries to monitor his students like test subjects using facebook. does not respect students wishes to study alone. Difficult tests, posts practice exams with no answer key, so one must guess or ask him on his facebook group. overal unimpressed sorry
Incredibly arrogant. Has his entire resume on his website. However, he was very enthusiastic about his lectures, which made it interesting. I didn't use the text once. Considering I had grade 12 bio, it was quite challenging. Make sure you take good notes with him.
He was an alright prof. Lectures were clear but very uninteresting and he lacked he ability to get the students interested (most people talked in class). But mostly did not like his arrogance!!
Wow!!!! J'ai jamais vu un prof aussi prétencieux et incompétent. Sérieusement, il ne sais vraiment pas comment enseigner pour que ces élèves soient intéressés. Non, vraiment, il est trop nul!!!
Very enthusiastic about what he's teaching. A bit arrogant, but he does try hard. He loves bugs, and never ceases to remind you, which got old fast. His tests ask very precise questions about things that are not written down anywhere. Take extensive notes; you miss alot of you miss a class. The textbook we used was of a much simpler level then the
The prof's expectations were clear and not unreasonable. He knows what he's talking about, and though he does make some grammar mistakes it does not detract from the understanding. Too bad he was a condescending and pretentious **** when I went to see him during his office hours. Show up and do the work and you should do fine, though.
Prof Brown clearly knows his stuff. Good for him. Unfortunately he expects you to know it too, which, given that the class was a gr12 equivalent, is a bit ridiculous. I'm an A student, and the A- I managed to get in the class took twice as much time and effort to achieve than I felt was reasonable. If you're willing to work tirelessly, he's ok.
He is the same as Professor Houseman, except nicer. His teaching style and arrogance are quite similar. His course is a great intro to Bio 1130. Study hard for his exams. I loved his class.
I had him in 1st year bio 2006: bad prof, didnt know what he was doing, horrible multiple choices, way too tricky. I had him again 2nd year bio: form and function: much better prof, improved in his method of teaching and doing exams. Very happy I had him again to see his improvement!
Go to class. Take notes on what he says and you will do fine! People who dont do well in class dont listena nd take notes even if he has power points it is important to note the examples down!He is a very nice prof. i simply dont understand what everyone is talking about. I've had him twice and he is the reason i am in biology now
Article write-ups aren't easy marks, take your time and put effort into it. Midterms are hard, must write up all key terms and do practice midterm to get anything in the 70s. He changes his mind about answers to questions, so make sure you double, triple with him to get the right answer. If possible avoid this prof hes the hard part not the materal
Excellent professeur. Dr. Brown est intéressant et divertissant. Cependant, ses réponses aux questions des élèves peuvent ne pas être très claires.
The midterms are challenging but not impossible. There are students who get in the hight 90's for sure. He's super interesting and he really knows his stuff, I'm definitely going to take his 3rd year course. He makes a huge effort to speak in French and advocate for the French language which i find really great especially because he's Anglophone.
Completely obsessed with himself. Insists on being addressed to as Dr. Brown. Had him for intro to bio. Easy class that he made more difficult then it had to be. Literally spent half of every lecture talking about himself. If you're an insecure teenage girl you might like him. But otherwise stay clear.
VRM est bon professeur , meilleur que j'ai eu a l'université depuis 3 ans !!!!!! sa classe est vraiment interessante et ses examens sont justes, represente vrm la matiere vu en classeee<3
Very good teacher. I don't have anything bad to say about him. I had him in a french course and even if it's not his first language, he does a really great job. Exams fairly represented the material saw in class. Just make sure you study enough or it risks to be quite hard for them who didn't. I recommand all of his courses to anyone.
Self-obsessed prof, explanations aren't clear in french, will use words that don't have the good meaning and assume he's right. Had him in 4 classes, and he's very arrogant
He's a very enthusiastic professor. I found his exams fair and relevant to material presented in class. Has a great website with a French scientific glossary that helps with those pesky vocab questions. Gave good hints about short/long answer questions on exams, and made excellent practice tests. TONS of memorization required for this course.
Great lecturer! went to his office hours though and it was a different story. He was impatient, seems annoyed with anything that came out of my mouth and rude. I cut the question asking short because I felt uncomfortable and uninvited. I do recommend this class, I do not recommend asking any questions outside of class. What a shame.
I've had him for two classes, overall excellent professor both in English and French. Good lecturer, fair grading, answers questions. I did notice, as it has been pointed out, that he is not the most approachable prof outside of class. He shows that he is rushed and has better things to do, which while understandable, makes a person uncomfortable.
Good lecturer. However, he follows the book very closely which makes him highly unoriginal. He adds nothing to the knowledge in the text and expects you to memorize it. Then he claims he wants you to only know the concepts and not regurgitate. Memorize the glossary at the end the textbook to answer his terminology questions. And read the text.
For animal behaviour, contrary to what some believe, he is not a good professor. Basically you have to memorize the textbook and the GLOSSARY at the end of the textbook to answer his exams well. In his lectures, he basically follows the textbook blindly. However he talks very clearly and makes it interesting. Seriously memorize the text.
It was an interesting course but many people found his marking extremely strict. I found it okay because I had all the memorization aspects down but had some trouble explaining stuff. He is keen on looking at "both sides of the coin" as he keeps saying. Overall not a super hard course but don't be fooled it is definitely not easy!
Book is really good. Prof just repeats it. He is very hard. Unless you are a mindless memorizer, you will do bad in his exams. I wouldn't recommend him to anyone. He seems very clear but he really is a bad examiner.
Superficially, seems to be a good prof, but he doesn't prepare you for exams. He says not to regurgitate info but that's not true. On top of that, he's actually a terrible person. My grandpa passed away and I missed 1 DGD and he wanted documented proof and to see the obituary. Last thing you want to deal with when you're in that situation...
These are the classes that I took: BIO3176(animal behaviour), BIO4134(special topics in biology), BIO4104(pesticides and the environment). Overall, he's a good prof. Nothing unexpected shows up on exams. It's important to go to class and take notes. Anything on the slides should be memorized for sure!projects are easy marks if you put time into it.
Honestly, he is so obsessed with himself and he is far from helpful. Word of warning, if you don't have the answer written on his exams in exactly the terms he would use you will lose marks. Last, he doesn't prepare you very well for exams, says that the exams are not memorization but end up almost being repeating topics... Bad prof.
He is an awesome teacher, if you dont understand, go see him. He taught me a 3 year class when I was in second year, and I found he was great. You dont need to memorize, just understand. If you dont understand, then of course you'll have to memorize! It's all common sense.
I took 3176 as well as 4134. Both classes were amazing! He is very clear and obviously interested in what he's talking about. PlantAnimal had a presentation and essay, no final. It was a great set up and my favourite course to date. Animal Behaviour was very intuitive and enjoyable.
He doesn't want us to memorize, yet he is testing us on a small sampling of over 500 "key terms" he expects us to know in less than a month of class. I would really enjoy this class, but "key terms" are taken to such a degree that it's no longer enjoyable. Scientific terminology? Yes. But let me explain how I've learned in my own terms.
I got a good grade in the class, but it is important to note that the grading criteria are very arbitrary. You might not *quite* use the terms he wants, or say it the way he wants, and then lose a ton of marks for it - even if you studied very hard and understood the material inside and out. Don't take if you can't afford a B+, for example.
Dr. Brown was my favorite prof up to now. He's super nice, funny and down to earth. He explains the concepts very well. It's possible to do very good in his class if you study. The notes don't include very much extra information so it's important to go to class to add notes. He's always there to answer your questions. I would highly recommend him!
Cannot use old version of textbook (lots of sections missing). Powerpoints are incredibly vague. I couldn't figure out what to write down. Biggest problem IMO is the prof's superiority complex. Scientific literacy is nice, but words cannot describe how bad this class was (first time teaching it, but I paid a lot of money for this...).
Lectures were very interesting, but the slides were almost empty, so even missing one class will make you behind. There were even some things on the midterm and the final that were not covered in class.
Literally have never had a more self-involved, egotistical professor. He teaches at a high school level, his lectures are incomplete and vague - he loves to hear himself talk. His tests are ridiculous, he expects one specific word or else you fail. His assignments are dull. This is not a biology class. I hate this professor. Beware.
do not miss a class because anything he says in class can be tested! pay attention to dates for the first midterm
Prepare to take notes, and don't skip class! There's a lot of material but it's not hard. It's an easy A if you study (the lab, however, is another story).
He is one of my favourite profs! I always was excited to go to his class, however, keep in mind that he can be a tough grader in regards to midterms. I did really bad on the 1st midterm which dropped my mark, but the 2nd , final and presentation are manageable once you understand his marking style.
great prof!! he took up all exams with the class and let us keep them to use for studying purposes. he really seemed to care about each student and even knew off the top of his head how i was doing in the course the one and only time i approached him after class!
This prof says that the key to success in this class is not to memorize anything. The only problem is that his exams require you to memorize definitions of ALOT of keywords. Seems to spend more time preparing what he will wear to class than what he will explain.
This prof is terrible at explaining concepts and goes over the course material very fast. He is nice but not very approachable as he is a bit arrogant and spends most of the time talking about his own research instead of answering your questions. overall his lectures are interesting, though not necessarily what you need in order to pass the class.
Is very good at oratory, but is a terrible exam writer. Unless you memorize the entire glossary of the textbook don't expect to get a good mark. If you miss even one keyword in a definition or short answer he wont give you the mark, even if you concisely explain it. Literally brags about his ted talks every class and makes you watch it for marks.
A great lecturer. Didn't buy the textbook- just showed up to every class. I wouldn't bother with the key words other than to use it to refresh your memory. What he says during lectures is exactly the answer he wants on exams, seriously. This class tells a great story of who we are as humans. Not a heavy workload. Go to class, then review. Easy A!
Lectures are interesting as well as majority of the content covered in class. The textbook that was over $100 was useless to buy so don't buy it. The grading on short answers is not always clear because he always expects you to write more even if you explained well the content.
The DGD was the worst from the mandatory attendance to the group presentation, but the course and prof were great despite the weird example based lectures and theory testing. It took some adjustments but the course was really easy
Dr Brown is a very good lecturer and convey the subject matter very well. The hardest part of this course is understanding his testing style, since it is example free and just more so explaining theories. I highly recommend doing all your readings and making notes on them as questions related to the readings will show up on tests.
Awesome professor, very kind, and has very interesting and engaging lectures that you will actually enjoy attending. Even cracks a few jokes in class. You just have to focus and take good notes and you will do just fine.
I had him for two classes and really enjoyed them. What I like about his classes is that he attempts to develop other skills (science communication/ public education) while teaching the subject matter. Test method for 3176 was unique, but not overly painful, and developed communication skills. A+ guy, profs like him are too few in Sci faculty.
Worst Prof ive ever had. if i could rate him a -100 it would never be enough. he is so insensitive and uncaring towards his students. consider switching programs to avoid him.
Do NOT buy the textbook unless you think you really really need the extra reading material. Brown is good and conveys the information well and is very responsive to questions.
Good lecturer. Animal form and function was very interesting. He is very word-oriented so pay attention to the key words. The book is helpful, but very expensive. If you don't get the book, take notes in class because his slides do not contain all the necessary info. Class was a lot of memorization, but midterms were fair. Non-cumulative final.
BIO1300 is an easy A for someone who already has a science background. Good lectures. Even though the textbook was written by him for this course, almost nothing he actually teaches is covered in it so don't bother buying it. The tests are basic, but you can easily fail this course if you don't come to class. Overall I loved him as a prof.
The textbook will save your life, I promise. Seriously, just read the assigned chapters and then follow along with the diagrams from the slides, then read those parts. He is a passionate and he really does make class interesting, but I find reading the textbook really makes the difference.
Worst professor at Uottawa. Extremely rude, uncaring and condescending. Avoid at all cost
Mr Brown was a pretty good! The course was a lot of information and I found he conveyed all of it very clearly. The textbook can be useful but really isn't necessary. As long as you attend all lectures and take REALLY GOOD NOTES (his powerpoints are not complete, mainly just diagrams) you'll do just fine! Make sure to study, ESPECIALLY for the lab
Loved him! He's passionate about the subject but also passionate about teaching, and it shows, he conveys information so well. I could sit in his lecture all day. You can skip the textbook but only if you go to class and take good notes (I didnt open it and got an A+). Use the keywords! They are listed in order of when they show up in the lecture.
One of the many reasons the University of Ottawa is a complete joke of a school. Doesn't teach anything, has nothing on his lecture slides, talks way too fast, and yet expects you to know as much as he does. Absolute nightmarish grading and hard questions, yet acts confused why the whole class did poorly on his midterms and blames the students.
OK here's the scope on Adam Brown: - Attend EVERY lecture. - Talks fast, RECORD the class with your phone's voice recorder. This will save you. - Review your lecture notes OFTEN and LISTEN to the recording to add to the notes on anything you may missed. - His tests are HARD ( 50% class average). Study! - Read the chapters, they help A LOT.
Speaks way too quickly about very specific things he expects you to know. Doesn't put any info on his slides so you need to write at an impossible speed to get everything down. His tests are ridiculous and so specific its ridiculous.
Terrible class. The professor seems like a nice person EXCEPT he blames the students for getting a "50%" midterm average, and then says "try harder!" on the next midterm exam which is just as hard. Does not adjust his process - thinks students aren't trying enough when in reality we're grinding. Will there be a bell curve?!?!?!?! AVOID this class!
Excellent prof. Course material is so interesting. Don't buy the textbook, huge waste of money. Got an A+ without the book. Just need to go to the lectures and take notes. 2 midterms and a final. Great course and I would recommend it to anyone. The prof is brilliant too, he seems super caring, and he's a good teacher.
I love animal behaviour and this course. However, exams are all long answer questions and you have to answer the questions IN HIS WAY, which is the ppl who don't know biology can understand what you are saying. Most of the students did much worse than they thought due to his weird logic. You have to get used to his logic.
Brown is one of the best lecturers I have ever had! That being said, his method of testing is horrible. Like other reviews have said, you need to learn how to write the test because he wants you to respond in a VERY specific way. if you're willing to memorize and learn how to write the answer his way, youre good. Content of class was AMAZING
Class is supposed to be for non science students, but after every test he complains about how poorly we did, and how he expects us to do as well as the science students. Also has a textbook, but never talks about what he wants us to do with it. Lectures are interesting though, and he's obviously very knowledgeable.
His class covers A LOT of material so get ready to memorize everything. And 90% of the notes are given in class so you need to go to every lecture. But he conveys the material well and he answers questions after each lecture too. The exams closely reflected the course material. Also, do the practice exams he gives you - they're very useful.
Avoid this class like the plague. Science student, worked so hard in this class for a D! TERRIBLE prof.
Grading is pretty tough on definitions and long answers, but absolutely loved his lectures. Dynamic speaker teaching an interesting topic. He's also an understanding guy and was always very nice to talk to and approachable.
Awesome professor, great lectures.
Honestly one of the only classes I have taken so far where I actually learned something. The lectures were super interesting. Prof Brown does talk pretty fast but you are welcome to record him. He explains the concepts really well. As long as you attend the lectures, take notes, and study you can get a good grade. the lab portion is another story
love love Adam Brown! He is such a great prof, he explains every topic extremely well so you don't need to use the textbook if you took good notes in class. He can speak really quick at times so I recommend recording his lectures. All exam questions come straight out of the notes, there are no tricks.
Im taking this class atm and let me tell u I AM OVERWHELMED. This man thinks hes all that, talks too fast, thinks its a race. He sounds like hes trying catch his breath every minute. Avoid this prof lmao. The lab coordinator changed this year and there is one lab exam instead of 2 like previous years (thats good at least)
Slides are primarily just pictures, you need to type or write everything he says in class as he is saying it. He speaks at a ridiculously quick speed & expects you to know a huge amount of vocab on top of the theory aspect of the course. You need the textbook b/c he will not mention everything you need to know during class or just speed through it
Prof. Brown is an interesting lecturer and seems very knowledgeable. However, his tests are extremely hard to do well on, especially on the short and long answer portion. No multiple choice. If you do not have word by word memorized for a topic, good luck! Also, seems irritated when students ask simple questions. Avoid.
He is a very good teacher, but sometimes talks too fast. Lectures are not recorded, which means you basically have to write everything he says because it WILL show up on the exam. Memorize literally everything if you want a good grade. Very kind and cares about his students.
A lot of people claim Adam is a horrible prof--that is not the case for me! It's true, he talks very fast during lecture, but he has no problem with you recording, which I highly recommend because his midterms are solely based off of lecture! He explains the material very clearly, and his midterm questions directly reflect what he explains in class
I have taken him twice (BIO1300 and 2135) and will be taking him again for Animal Behaviour in the Fall. He is so interesting and I learn so much in his class that sticks with me. He always does two midterms and an exam so if you study deeply for those you will do very well. He is my favourite biology teacher by far.
Relatively straight forward class. Recording the lectures is very useful bc he does talk fast. It's really important to go over the key words bc they will be on an exam. Also if he's spends 5 min going over something- remember it as it's probably going to be on an exam. It really isn't a hard class but it requires effort which some people hate.
Brown is a super sassy but great lecturer. The material is heavy memorization, but he does a great job conveying it. It is very evident what is important as he emphasizes in class, but he speaks incredibly fast, so share notes with friends to make sure you don't miss anything. Reading the chapters in the textbook before class really helped me out.
The worst. The most arrogant prof I have ever seen. He thinks his words are the law
I had Dr. Brown for zoology last term & actually liked him but this class, his arrogance really peeked through. He wouldn't even stay for the entire lecture and he showed a lot of narcissism when students complained about him not posting the recordings on time. Assignments had very vague marking schemes yet very strict guidelines.
I really enjoyed this class, he teaches the material very well and it is easy to tell what is important for quizzes and exams. Not sure what the other reviews are talking about in terms of him being arrogant, I found him to be pleasant and helpful. Lectures are easy to follow and there are many opportunities to boost your grade. Awesome class.
ARROGANT professor. Emailed him about an assignment and asked him for an extension (I was extremely sick) but instead of being professional/understanding, he accused me of lying. I provided proof and he backpedaled and followed up with an email where he pointed out how important respect is... how ironic. Ruined my entire experience in this class.
Decent prof, approachable and reasonable. He provides pretty good feedback back though written work is marked by the TAs. His lectures are clear and gets the message across. Lots of guest lecturers so hes often a second thought in this class. Lots of presentations and hes encouraging towards shy students. A friendly guy, okay to give extensions
I don't know why people are saying he is vain. I missed a lab report due to some difficulties and talked to him. He gave me two days to finish the report and hand it in. Super understanding, no fuss. Just asked me to send an email to remind him of the problem. Lectures are fun to watch, labs are also fun, midterms are the most straightforward exams
Maybe I just really enjoyed the course material in BIO 1300 but his class was so interesting! usually I have a hard time trying to get into what is being taught to me but everything was well taught and organized.
Dr. Brown had the chance to make this class enjoyable but, he missed the mark. The content and the idea of doing more creative assignments rather than an exam sounded promising however, his midterms were ridiculous. The way you need to answer the questions is unreasonable. He is very arrogant (big ego) and his expectations were vague and unclear.
He knows his stuff and his lectures and clear and to the point. Definitely needs a good amount of revision and textbook reading to excel, but his lectures and teaching style are great nonetheless
Honestly don't know why this prof has so many bad reviews, he is one of my favourite professors at uOttawa. You definitely have to go to class and take notes as his slides don't have a lot of info on them, but this is a good way to actually pay attention. His lectures are interesting, allows cheat sheets for the exams. Easy A & GPA boost, take it!!
Dr. Brown's teaching style is interactive and engaging, but succeeding Animal: Form and Function requires significant extra study. His noticeable arrogance may detract from the learning experience. However, if Dr. Brown is the only choice, I do not believe you will face too much of a struggle.
Amazing prof, very passionate about his subject and very knowledgeable. Always open to help and answer questions at the end of class. Also gave us a bunch of documentaries to watch at our own will which were not on the exams. For exams I would recommend memorizing the key words are your grade will mainly depend on it.
The class is a mixed bag - lectures are clear, but the professor can be arrogant at times. Assignments have vague guidelines, yet exams are straightforward. unstuck ai proved a valuable tool for exam prep alongside the course materials. Overall, a challenging but manageable class.
Fun engaging lectures with a 10% participation mark. The behavioural paper and documentary were pretty clear and graded fairly. The midterms were difficult because you had to explain the behaviour and key words were needed. Adam is an eccentric guy and good lecturer.
When it was good it was great but when it was bad it was BAD. Trying to give him a fair shake but I hated coming to class. Midterms are so frustrating, not hard, but his marking scheme makes them impossible. Every mistake is %5. His human behaviour classes were straight up wrong frequently and leaned kinda sexist to an uncomfortable amount.
okay so he doesn't even teach this class, just brings in guest lectures which is good bc i enjoyed learning from them A LOT more. class is assignment heavy, but does teach you some good skills for future use. real MVP is Paul (TA), will help you with assignments bc there is no rubric and only extremely vague instructions for everything. arrogant.
