Very boring
Says nothing about tests, lectures on film scores+ current events not material
Buckley
Takes student opinions into considerations, very updated on what's happening
by the end of the semester I knew more about phillip glass's most recent film score than political science. Is OBSESSED with film scores, only moderately interested in politics.... okay maybe that's a little harsh
boring.
Great Professor, most people dont like him because he seems to grade a little bit more strictly than most professors here, but the class lectures were very interesting and thought provoking. Not necessarily an easy A, but if you do the work, you're fine.
Fair and interesting class.
weird cowboy from oklahoma, but nice guy and grades fairly. highly recommend!!!
This class was a litle hard but the teacher is great and he keeps the lectures interesting and will answer students questions with consideration.
Grades okay. Got "A" in his Winter class with no problem. Lectures can get boring at times, but not often if your interested in politics.
His teaching is uninspiring and just studying the book and the study guide is enough to get you through the course. You might as well stay home. He must have been a good teacher once.
poli sci 1 is cake! just study the questions in the study guide and you'll be fine. he's a really easy grader on the essays. pol sci 2 and 7 are just boring, but I got by without doing the reading even in there.
He is very knwoledgeable and academically challenging. You cannot get any better than Alan in Political science.
Very likeable instructor. Fairly strict, but fair in grading. If you know the material from the texts you should have no problem answering question and writing essays. Likes to have discussion in class, sometimes lectures go a bit off course
this is a easy class, good class to take in the morning and just sleep...he doesnt care at all....no homework, just a bunch of quizzes....tests are tricky
He is not the most approachable man,he is also somewhat patronizing and condescending. Further more please note that this class is difficult, not because of the work but because the lack of lecture clarity.
Great sense of humor, but not many people got it. He is quietly sarcastic but very smart. Most people in class hated him but I think he's brilliant and the class material is fascinating.
Quiizes are both multiple choice and essay. Multiple choice are easy but he grades very low on essays. Do not take him. Out of 40 students there were only 2 A's.
He's a funny guy, I enojoyed listening to him make fun of people and such. But his class was really hard. A lot of reading and he isn't clear on what u need to know and what you dont.
i lasted two weeks.
He was pretty easy when I had him, but that was 4 years ago.
Somewhat overbearing & condescending of student opinion & also not terribly helpful outside class beyond the most basic assistance. But class isn't too hard if you study and he has excellent grasp of subject matter.
If your interested in political science history and how it relates to what's going on in the world, this is a great class!! Keep up with the reading and you won't get lost in class discussions and lectures.
he is sent from hell. dont take this teacher if u want a good grade in political science. it seems that he wants as many people as possible to fail, the class is easy and he jokes around alot. he wont let u know whats gonna be on the test, its a suprise
has a degree from columbia but can't teach.....unclear about what is on tests...two thumbs down
Watch out!! This teacher is not the best choice, I am considering another major because his class is conducted in a way that is very much a turnoff. Chauvanistic. He has a good sense of humor however, he is sidetracked easily. The test ?s are terrible
Ok he isnt the easiest teacher,c'mon its college! He gives you the info you need, just keep up with the readings and participate in the discussions, he takes a lot into consideration. he gave me an A for my 86 average, ask ne thing, just seem interested!
You must be prepared for TONS of reading & studying on your own if you want to take this class because the lectures don't help at all. Not an easy teacher--gets red in the face if you argue w/ him during a discussion. Only take him if you're a studious!
What everyone else said on the bottom. So true. Very true.
Great class. Lots of fun. Great Teacher. I took him for Poli Sc. 7 as well.
Dont take him! His class is nothing but unclear lectures and boring readings.
He is not easy, but if you do the reading and come to class you will do good. He is a very smart person and you could learn a few things in his class.
i think that he might want students to not suceed. i had an A only because i knew the subject matter before. Watching him with the other students was really depressing, he is condescending.
I took him twice because it was required for the major. He is the worst professor in the department. He never established any legitimacy and each class was painful to sit through. He will test you on the most obscure, seeminly unimportant material simply to feel good about himself for knowing it.
Easiest professor in the world i like his class because i get to argue with him about politics because i know my**** since i was raised as a diplomatic child. In his class i dont even need a pen or book and still i get an A because everything on his exam is related to the material he set out.
The post before mine the guy speaking sure has a big ego, wonder how he ended up in smc if he such an amazing student. But reality Buckley is hard for most only 5% of the class got A's so you got to work reall hard.

USE YOUR RESOURCES, also complete the reading & pay attention during his lectures! Few people did well in his course, which I didn't quite understand...unless ppl. only relied on his lecutre, or the text. The key is to use all available materials. He is helpful during officehours. I liked his course
Hmm.. He was a very interesting teacher. Very smart and with unique humor. This is a tough course to take, his lectures are very thought provoking but often lead off the topic. Everything is on the texts though, reading and understanding are the key for success.
Buckley is a very smart guy that knows his stuff, but he's not the best professor. He'll take your questions in class and use them for comic relief. His joke rating would probably be higher if he taught in his home state of Oklahoma...Great guy, but not such a great professor.
When i study and come prepared, i'm surprised to see the questions that he gives on tests - very unworthy of attention and something i would never guess he would ask. For people who are "fanatic" about Pol Sci, this professor might be good, but not for students who are not crazy about this subject
Very cool and laid back teacher. Loves the Simpsons, stars wars, and has big hot wheel collection in his office. Lectures are often boring, but you rarely need the informtion anyway so take a np (he doesn't mind). As long as you learn the study guide you'll do fine, especially on the final.
If you're interested in the subject, he's a good teacher. Otherwise, the class is a bit boring.
Very nice man, but boring lectures and reading assignments. I enjoy political science but was very turned off by his teaching style.
A great professor, laid back and knowledgable. Wants you to learn, answers any questions. His lecture outlines and online materials are really helpful. I got out a lot from his class.
OH MY GOD, I DONT KNOW WHERE TO START, FIRST OF ALL THE CLASS TOPIC'S WERE NOT COVERED EVERYDAY WE WOULD START CLASS WITH THIS PHRAE ''SO WHATS NEW IN THE NEWS?''AND STUDENTS WOULD ARGUE ABOUT IRAQ, STOCKS, MEXICO..ANYTHING BUT WHAT THE CLASS IS ABOUT AND DURING THE LAST 20MIN WE WOULD OPEN THE BOOK
Took this class online. Not too bad, actually. I think Dr. B is almost better online. Threaded discussions give you a chance to get your take on the subject out there and get feedback. Mult-choice tests EZ if you do the reading. Grades your material fairly and critiques usefully.
His lectures are very dry, but he knows his stuff. He allows for debate and often plays devils advocate. If you are looking for a dynamic speaker, you are looking in the wrong place. If you are looking for a knowledgable professor, you've found him.
His lectures are boring, but he doesnt really care if u listen so I just sleep. Tests are pretty difficult and the reading sucks. But if you read all of the material, you can pull off a C+/B. If youre a nerd, youll get an A
You know he is a difficult professor because he treats you like a college student, but I never had the time to visit him during his office hours which may have really helped me. I've found though that I actually know something about politics now...and he's such a great guy. If you understand his humour-you're laughing. You get what you put in!
A walking encyclopedia of Poli Sci knowledge. Liberal political views seep through, but he is not one of those dank hardcore Leftists that inhabit colleges and couldnt make it in the real world if they tried. For those that think he is disorganized, he just isn't into hand-holding. Rapier sarcastic wit. Highly recommended.
I'm a political Science major, and so were my friends and we were tortured in this class. he is not a good teacher and his test are HARD!!! and his answer keys are always off. so to sum it all up, don't bother taking this class. if its your major, take it with the other teacher even if its at 9 PM, who cares, anything is btter then this class =(!!!
he calls himself "Dr. Buckley" but he is hardly an excuse for a teacher. He hates his life therefore he will make you hate yours and does absolutely nothing to help the student. his name has 6 letters. Buckley but he is really another word that is 6 letters -****
Took him for two different polysci classes, enjoyed them both very much - maybe my favorite teacher at smc. Dry, sarcastic wit - very liberal. Most fun when he allows the class to discuss current events, and adds his own devil's advocate spin to get everyone thinking. Tests are STRAIGHT outta the study guide, wonderful!
his class makes you think. The tests are hard but he is always willing to meet during office hours and help if you want it. Great teacher! Very Very Smart man. It is alot of work but worth it.
I am an "A" student. School is fairly easy for me. I enjoy discussing in class what we are reading. Class discussions are irrelevant to course. Do not man if you want to experience interactive learning. I purposely missed final, so I would not pass. I want to learn, so I plan on taking it again with a more inspiring instructor.
I AGREE he is hardly an excuse for a TEACHER. Dr. Buckley, more like can't teach get a life buckley. he needs to go to third street get a little corner and have debates with himself, becasue if you argue with him your grade will suffer. not that it matters what you argue about, never makes sense anyway. bad bad bad teacher.
I took his class online and he was not very helpful. His test was so hard because the way he words its confusing. If you need help, he doesn't try to help you.
He's "easy" unless you're not a test taker (like me). No writing/homework opportunities in his class to make up for that. Biased (what teachers aren't?) but less zealous as others. Boring as hell but completely complacent when it comes to attendance/falling asleep in class (which my friend did everyday)

He's a very pretentious liberal whose ego is greater that any dictator. Very arrogant and unhelpful. Exams are all lecture notes and reading is unecessary. Don’t bother to ask for help unless you are a middle aged female. Don’t dare to think for your self during his lectures. Gives liberals a bad name.
Buckley is interesting in lecture, although he can be known to go off on tangents, and its hard to keep track of what section is being covered, and he often stresses certain points in class that aren't that relevant on the tests. the grade is divided between 4 tests.
I loved his sense of humor, but I don't think many people got it. I was also transfixed by his lectures, but as I looked around, the rest of the class was dozing. So take my glowing recommendation with a healthy grain of salt.
great teacher - keeps you interested and well informaed! kuv him!!!!!
He's not bad. Lectures are interesting and relevant to modern times even if they're historical, and he's always willing to answer questions - although sometimes, a little too much. If you ask the right question, you can steer the class into a different direction for a good 20 minutes. Overall, it's a good class that makes for interesting debate.
Really interesting and really funny if you listen to get the subtle jokes. Tests are fine if you do the reading.
The class is pretty straightforward, as long as you do the weekly readings/notes. Mr Buckley is a nice teacher who does well in engaging the students in an otherwise boring subject. His website is helpful in preparing for exams.....however, the exam is half multiple choice/half written, so if you bomb one section you literally bomb the whole exam.
Buckley is a wealth of information. If you like his speaking style, you'll enjoy his classes. Mostly lecture with assigned reading, & the tests are broken up into 4 multiple choice tests each w/a short essay question. The tests are 80% out of the reading with the essay coming from lecture. This class is easy if you attend and read the material.
He's an interesting, intelligent guy who really knows his stuff. Tests are easy if you take good lecture notes & do some of the reading. I learned a lot & got interested about a subject once very boring to me.
Great Professor! This guy is like a walking book. He basically can resite to you the last 500 years in history, while making it interesting. Had him for 2 classes and got A's. READ,READ<READ!
Wonderful professor. Seems like a bit of an ex-hippie, so if you consider yourself a bit on the left, you'll probably like him. Grades are based on four tests, which are broken down into multiple choice and short essay. Definitely take advantage of the web resources and his website.
Very smart man, but too lazy to teach. Leaves it to the books and class discussions, but everyone who takes the class is liberal so it defeats the purpose. TONS of reading: some interesting, most of it mind numbing. HARD tests m/c based on the books quizzes, (which are hard) and essays. Make sure you know every boring book detail, front to back.
Horrible professor, talks about stuff which is never on the book, goes off on many many tangents, if you go to class you learn useless info that will NOT, I repeat NOT be on the tests. Take someone else.
His class completely boring. Did't give homework though, which wasn't really a good. So if you don't wanna take notes in a hurry for more than an hour don't take this class.
Its easy, he does follow the class outline but you have to come to every class or make a friend within the class because he will add a film or a fact/comment that is not in the reading.oh yeah...you have to read the required text(s,) there is a small essay question in the tests, which are multiple choice for most part. Final is ALL multiple choice.
Threaded discussions are stimulating and educational but the timed open-book quizzes and exams are ridiculously hard. Even if you read the material twice, your success depends upon your proficiency with the table of contents and index. His super critical grading of threads ( essays) gets you to think deeply and look at both sides of complex issues.
quick online responses to questions and tests and assignments
Interesting and insightful. He leads great discussions and encourages you (if not insists) that you draw your own conclusions about politics through your OWN analysis.
Ok, so he does think he's god's gift to the world, but he's pretty damn smart. Highly recommended if you love a challange, a lot of reading though, and yea, class lectures are a bit of a tangent, but they're so fun i don't take notice. Little tough though.
Here's the deal. The lectures are fun and all. A lot of reading, 1 book per quiz basically. The problem with that is that his quizes are almost solely based on book reading and he will pick small and insignificant details for questions like. If you have time to read 3-4 books, and reread them several times, you'll be K, otherwise don't take him!
Dr Buckley is an extremely interesting and funny guy. His lectures were very interesting and he's very sweet and incredibly intelligent. His tests are not very straightforward. There is a lot of reading required and the questions are sometimes on some seemingly arbitrary information. I learned a lot in his class, however.
Great teacher! Online quizes and good lectures.
He is a very good professor. Explains the material clearly and his tests are not hard. All you have to do is read the book carefully and take the online quizzes and youll do well. He is very helpful in his office hours and is just a good person in general.
Dr Buckley is an excellent teacher, very bright and funny. He is a good person and makes you want to learn more. He is fair and organised. It is a pleasure to learn from him and discuss with him. If you want to get an A, read the material, study the key terms carefully and do the online quizzes.
amazing teacher. Very smart...greatly appreciated the inspiration!
If you're into politics & enjoy discussing the day's issues you'll enjoy this class. Reading intensive; 10min. quizzes can be perplexing. Work hard and you'll succeed. Intensive 8/wk session. Dr. B. is fair and recognizes improvement. No judgment re: personal ideology. Professor knows his subject. Highly recommended.
Great online class. Helpful. Responds to emails quickly. Book use very heavy. If you don't read fast or have little interest in govt I wouldn't suggest taking this class online-or if you are not motivated within yourself. Quizzes are fast and easy if you do the reading and know your vocabulary. Learned a lot very fast. Impartial prof. intensive

If you are expecting to be tested on or learn a broad range of poly sci, think again. His quizzes and tests are ridiculous, unless you have a photographic mind, good luck. I have never been as frustrated with a prof as I am with him and I like Poly Sci! He seems like a nice guy, but I always feel like he is trying to trick students. I'm not dow
great prof. keeps you interested with lectures. Tests are not that difficult as long as you read all the material and pay atention in class. i learned alot
Boring and Boring, but easy if you are good at studying by yourself. I don't think he is helpful at least you are good at Poli Sci. As I was checking previous comment, it seems this professor is checking this web-site!
Online class. The class is really good, though at times hard. There are weekly essays you have to write, but they're interesting. The quizzes can be challenging and book-use is heavy. Still, you will learn a lot, and don't think Dr. Buckley doesn't take hard work into consideration. This is the class to take with a very helpful/nice professor.
take him! He is the smartest person you will ever know. This guy has lived life and knows what he is talking about. Took him at SMC and CSUN. Best pol sci professor I have had.
He knows a lot, but if your point of view isnt like his, he will not hesitate to interrupt you and make snide remarks. he makes a lot of snide remarks and pretty tasteless jokes about the things going on in the world. he imposes his own personal opinions on the students, something which i believe should not be the practice of a poli sci teacher.
He's an ok teacher. Definately not the best. His tests are out of the book. He'll put in like 1 question from his lecture. Tests are 1/2 multiple choice and 1/2 essay. Although he offers make-up exams, don't miss his tests! The makeups are ridiculously hard. 75% of his final comes from the multiple section part of his previous tests. Read the book.
thought this prof was smart and interesting. He can be a little bit intimidating but if you ask questins, he will help you. Must go to class every day, take notes, read, and take the practice quizes and you should be able to swing an A. I worked hard, learned alot, and ended up with an A

Buckley is a cool guy. Def. one of the most intelligent people I've encountered at SMC. He knows his stuff and has an excellent way of teaching that actually engages students in discussion. The tests are not easy, but if you put forth the effort and go to office hours, you'll be fine and learn a lot. POLI SCI MAJORS TAKE HIM!!!
Great for poli sci majors. Relates info to students through news headlines. Lecture can sometimes be hard to follow but hell clear it up if you ask. A is possible if you read the book and study the material. Def recommend. Great class discussions; encourages participation; forces you to support your stance; points out flaws of illogical morons :'D
I took this class online. Dr. Buckley is a great teacher. The class was pretty hard, a lot of reading and the tests were challenging. Overall great class, but not for those who don't want a lot of work.
Took his online class for Poly Sci 1. Lots of reading and lots of weekly quizzes and online tests. I don’t recommend taking this class online. My roommate took the same subject same time but on campus and he had less then half the work load. Dr. Buckley is helpful if you email him questions, the class is just boring and being online makes it worse.
He is a knowledgable teacher, and interesting thread topics. I took him online, and I appreciated his structure. The only thing I did not like was he asked us to buy two books and one is only used for a week, and its $60. I took my chances and winged the quizes...it hurt me a bit but it worked out.
This was a great class, even online. I loved the topics we had to address, and the fact that you have to write so much. My favorite phrase to see quickly became "Nice Thread." I learned a lot, thought his comments on threads were insightful, and enjoyed the class more than I'd anticipated. You must stay current with reading!
All of the comments, good and bad, are true. He is extremely intelligent, one of the few SMC professors with a PhD and work experience. He is cynical and argumentative, but he is worth it. His tests are super easy; 4 per semester and no hw. You will get a first-rate education with him.
I took this class online over winter intersession. It was a great class!!! You write weekly threads, have 10 question quizes and a midterm and final. The tests/quizes are easy and you learn a lot!!! Even with a busy schedule, I managed to get an A!! Professor is highly recommended!!!!
I took him online and I must say I had a very, very tough time. Politial science is a hard subject for me. I dropped it b/c I was just so annoyed. No matter how hard I studied, I kept getting bad grades. He actually reads the threads. The quizes were so hard!!! I just wanted to bang my head against the wall b/c it was that hard of a class.
Took the online class. There's a lot of reading (2-3 ch./wk) and a weekly discussion essay, plus multiple weekly 15 min quizzes but, the answers to the ?'s are straight out of the book. Grade relies heavily on discussion responses. In-depth, well-written responses should get you an A w/a lot of effort or a B w/a bit of effort. You work for that A!
He is avery good teacher. I took him for polsc 2 and 7...if you love political science you will pass the class with flying colors. His thread discussions are very interesting to discuss.Recommend for those who are eager to learn ad not just get an easy A !
I think he is very knowledgeable about his subject, almost to the point of frustration for his students. He asks questions for threads that are very straightforward, but then wants the answer to expand past what the question is asking for. His grading at times seems a bit arbitrary. He will respond quickly, but his answers seem sarcastic at times.
you could only miss 79 points or forget about the A. Easy B hard A. No extra credit as Prof demands too much reading, threads, and difficult timed 15 minute quizzes. Acts arrogant and doesnt care about his students. In the online class just says "read the sylabus" which gets annoying. Unhelpful and hard. rec to polysci majors otherwise stay away!!
The most god awful class I have ever taken. Absolutely ruined my 4.0 GPA. Required for my major and it was impossible to do well. I can't express how ridiculous this class is. IMPOSSIBLE TO GET A GOOD GRADE. He makes it way harder than it needs to be. The tests/quizzes were a joke. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!! NO MATTER WHAT!! SAVE YOURSELF!!!!
I just finished his pol 7 online class and got an A. If you work hard and has some brains there shouldn't be a problem to get an A. He dont seem very helpful, if you ask anything you can expect a short : read the syllabus. But I understand him, I too would be irritated if I got as many stupid questions that he gets. Really smart, fair grader.
Took the online class. You must meet the deadlines of the WEEKLY assignments:(M)1-2 quizzes, (W) thread (350 word response to a ques. he posts and comment on a few students threads), (SAT)1-2 chapter tests(10 q's) a midterm & final(50 q's) & you'll get an A. Interesting subject, work for your grade!
His class is lame. It is not based on how smart you are, it is based on memorizing an entire textbook and reciting it back to him word by word. That is not having brains, that is being a clone. I can learn more on my own.
the comment 2posts down from this sum it up. you have to work to keep your grade up, but i found this class very helpful and informing. for an A you have to read pretty much 70%of the entire text book. i took it online,my final grade was looking to be under 90% but i emailed him, he kindly said if i get an A on the final i get an A the class, i did
Very intense tough class without a doubt! There's lots of reading, writing, and many quizzes. The material is straightforward but READ THE BOOK! Q's come from it. This is no easy A class and you MUST put in many hrs of studying and dedication. rec to hardworking students who want to have a feel for university level coursework, otherwise stay away!
A great online formatted classroom, answers questions on the bulletin board quickly and is also very helpful. Does not respond to emails, which can be a little troublesome, but the quizzes and tests were straight from the reading and the "online quizzes", so if you did all that there should be no trouble, the postings are great assignments.
This was my second online class w/Professor Buckley. It's true that you must work hard to get an A; however, the weekly online quizzes thoroughly cover each chapter. Think outside the box when contributing to the Discussion Questions and back up your claims with facts. This class will be rewarding if you are ambitious to learn about politics.
Crazy easy! ! ! as long as you have the capacity to think you dont have a problem. Got a B because of early quiz messteps, but final is only 50 points and my overall post grade ws an A. YOu really dont have to read(or i didnt). Reads posts, and you can respond for a better grade. Cake walk for those that take online classes
I took this class online over the winter. It was very intense. If you read the book and do your posting you will do well. Respond to teacher when he writes about your discussion. Quizzes based ALOT on reading. READ!!
What a terrific teacher. I took two classes with Professor Buckley and I learned more from him about writing than from any of the English professors at SMC. He's billiant, hilarious with the softball insults, extremely knowledgeable and tough. Of all of my coursework at SMC, I will remember him most. He's a rare find.
I was interested in this subject but am now unable to see how anyone can truly love it. It's better to take this class in a classroom. The online class goes very fast, and you have no way of really asking questions or gaining clarity if you have trouble. The book is horribly written and a complete joke, this author spells his own vocab words wrong.
Took it online in 8wk class. He moves very fast,2 chapters a wk.Do well on all the boards and you will do fine.Fair grader but impossible to get a perfect score.1pt quizzes are easy,15 min quizzes are hard.He isnt much of an emailer but in the end he graded the class fairly.
A lot of the good things and bad things that are said on here are true, but Dr. Buckley treated me fairly I believe. Not an easy A but definitely and easy B.
I took Doctor Buckley during the fall semester in person and I discovered that he based 95% of his test questions on the practice exam questions online. Once I discovered that I did very little reading and I still got an "A." Study the practice exams.
Horrible! Inconsiderate! Offensive! Does not use the textbook. Gives grades and notes that do not apply.
I have taken both online and on the ground classes with Buckley. He is rude and acts like your bothering him anytime you have a question. He does grade fairly. Online classes are more difficult than on the ground class. Difficult quizzes, based off heavy reading. He is very very arrogant, but he is very knowledgeable about the subject.
Taking an online class now. Prof doesn't seem to be a very good communicator. Class entirely too convoluted, & uses this ridiculous examguard software that never works! Definitely do not recommend on any level!!
he's the only professor I dislike in SMC. took an online class with him and he definitely doesn't care about his students. what the other comment said about him is right. he acts like you are bothering him anytime you talk to him or ask him anything
I wanted to meet with Buckley and he gave me an appointment and did not show up. I was getting As in all tests, and many times I proved my answer with the quotes so he had to give me credit. After the last exam was rated, I published the list of incorrect questions. Buckley tried to fail me and deleted the comments of students who supported me.
good teacher. doesnt do anythin. U write essays nd he gives u As. So don't forget to do ur hw nd ur straight
I have just completed Buckley's Comparative Politics 8 week course. The material is very interesting, however the difficulty and convuluted nature of the tests caused a lot of frustration. Unfortunately, I barley passed with a C. This class put a real dent in my GPA. Advise- AVOID THIS CLASS AT ALL COSTS.
I signed up for his online class, even though I had read what others had rated him, raters were right!! You need to have a PC for exams which was not mentioned when I signed up for the class, I have a Mac. When I emailed him (at his suggestion) about the problems with Examguard he was unhelpful and condescending. My GPA is important so I dropped.
Very easy grader, you just have to write short essays every week and the final is take home.Easy but If you wanna learn something you should look for another prof!He just make us watch random movies!I think he's just there to make easy money, keeps looking at the clock. He's not very intelligent as well he cannot communicate,he talks like a teenager.
easy easy easyjust write essay every week and you are ready to go for an A. Lazy teacher, avoide to his class if you really wanna learn something.
best professor at smc
Expectations are clear in this class. Lots of writing: 2-4 page paper every week in "response form." Online quizzes are easy, 15-minute quizzes are detailed questions from book. Helpful, but isn't shy to passive-aggressive comments in e-mails. Nature of class forces you to do further research. Would recommend for those who aren't afraid of writing.
Good teacher, that knows very much about a lot of things which makes the discussions after the movies very interesting. Rather easy class if you like to write and you do learn a great deal.
He's crystal clear in what he expects and he spells it out at the beginning. If you're taking online course and you struggle with essays, you will learn to write in the threads: he expects clear, concise arguments backed up with facts. It's worth the effort. He knows a lot. He's also wickedly funny in his responses to stupid questions.
Pretty easy to get an A. Watch movies in class (some are really good), weekly assignments are due, and there is a take home final. Doesn't use the book AT ALL so don't buy it.
Each class is one movie and a short lecture. Grade based entirely on 1-2 page weekly papers, final is a writing project. Fairly easy grader as long as you cite your sources and answer the essay questions fully. Films are great and I enjoyed myself a lot in this class. Would say NOT rigorous enough for a Poli sci major trying to transfer though.
A very different kind of class. The professor holds a cynical view of politics and prefers to teach through his movies. Summary: Watch movie in class, discuss, go home and write two pg essay on related theme. It's very straightforward and nobody should have any problems with the class unless you don't hand in your work or cite your sources.
This class is hella easy. A couple of the movies were dull, but other than that, most of em were very interesting. There's a 1-2 pg essay due every week, and he gives you a certain topic which is always easy to research (the topics are not specifically about the movie) he doesn't require any textbook either. he adds almost everyone. cool class.
ONLINE class Spring 2011. OUTSTANDING professor, GREAT communication, Well organized class, EXTREMELY clear what you need to do. Material makes this class somewhat difficult, need to study, research and write a short essay weekly. Uses Exam guard which works with all browsers but will not let you cheat hence the complaining from some students. A+++
Online class. Not a bad teacher at all. I hated the Examguard he used during tests, it kept kicking me out so I was nervious during tests & quizzes. A lot of material to cover, slighly boring, but managable. Expect to read the book, take good notes, prepare for the exam & post lenghy discussion threads. Worked hard, got an A
I took his course spring 11 and thought it was great. It's no easy task, but not impossible. You just have to do the work, participate and follow instructions. If you want to learn then I highly recommend his class. An A is truly earned...I got a B...lol.
Amazing class. I took it online in the summer. The assignments were insightful and required actual thinking and writing. The class is set up so that students can voice their opinions and post them for other students to either agree/disagree with in response. READ THE BOOK. Online tests require knowledge of the text. Great for Poli Sci majors.
I take online classes to have the freedom of learning in between work, an internship and another class. Tests on Saturdays, quizzes on Mondays and thread posts on Wednesdays, and no room for error. Tried discussing alternatives for two tests I won't be able to take, nothing. Don't take if you're an adult with responsibilities.
Buckley is a great professor. He is very detailed in his responses to you, and very fair in his grading. I took the online class, and due to the writing assignments, learned a great deal about politics. I would recommend him and Comparative Politics.
I took this professor twice for Political Science 1 and 2. He is a very easy professor just do the threads and make sure to add good examples, and you should get at least a C.
Awesome professor! Watched films in his class and then wrote essays on them every week. His opinion is very honest and he does not censor himself. Also had fun on his unconventional final. Highly recommended if you need/want to take Pol Sci 1!!
Took Dr. B's 8-week online course over the summer. If you can teach yourself, already have strong writing and research skills, and just need a little guidance, this is the course for you. Learned a lot, worked my ass off and got an A. Plus, Dr. B's comments to stupid posts are totally wicked...
Impossible to get an A. If you want to get an A you will need to learn how to memorize a textbook word for word, and the entire textbook at that because every little bit of it is important. Not very clear what is going to be on his quizzes either so you must memorize everything. This class ruined my GPA. Now I probably can't transfer anywhere nice.
I took the online 8 week course. Discussion posts require research, make up the bulk of the grade, and can be posted early. Tests only on Saturday. Examguard can be buggy (and is pointless) but he is around til 4pm to reset if needed. I used the 2nd edition (was 2 dollars) of the book & was fine. Lecture pdf's very helpful. Great overall, recommend
EASIEST class you will ever take. All you do is watch movies and turn in essays relating to the movie. All you'll need is good writing and research skills for the essays. Even though all we did was watch movies, I learned a lot from writing the essays. I am glad i took this course with him.
Oh God, If you want an A, you got to learn the whole book, Got a C.
I took Prof. Buckley's Pol. Science 2 course online. Just read the books(2 books) and you'll do great. I got the ebooks which made it easy when looking for specific topics. I hardly, if ever, read and got a B. The answers for quizzes are provided online just search for them.
Great class, very easy A as long as you take the discussion posts seriously (they are the majority of your grade). Less work than many online SMC classes, but more than many campus classes. Used an old cheap edition of the text and it was essentially the same. Do the reading if you want to do well on quizzes. Nice guy, good class.
Not very difficult. Take the discussion posts seriously, as they make up a huge portion of your grade. Requires a lot of reading. He's very helpful and responds to questions quickly.
I had poli sci 1 with films which reflected politics. All great films and its a fun class. Class discussion afterwards in which he passes out microphones to the students to share their thoughts on the film. Dr. Buckley is very snappy but he means well. lots of research needs to be done to develop opinions. Overall a cool class
This class is not easy, it is difficult and yet SO rewarding. Dr. Buckley expects a lot from you, but I was blown away with how much he cared, and how helpful he was. He wants you to learn & do well. I visited his office hours on three different occasions and he was beyond helpful, and caring each time. He worked with me throughout the semester!
For his online classes, he pretty much expects you to be on the computer morning, noon and night. You have to post several threads with academic citations at numerous points during the week and take tests on Saturdays. Also count on paying a fortune for the textbooks, which you do need for the class. Steer clear.
Prof. Buckley's online class is not incredibly difficult, but VERY reading and writing-intensive. He requires you to write an essay every week on the material as well as take a quiz every Saturday (which can be inconvenient). He's a fair grader though and very straightforward. Also, he kindly applies a rather fair curve at the end of the course!
Online class must do 2-3 quizzes every saturday, must complete an essay each week with credible citations. Don't need to read the book if you are familiar with the US Government class you took in high school. He grades fairly. He is not helpful or understanding AT ALL. Very rude in his email responses. Don't bother emailing him with any questions.
Very fair professor!
Very easy teacher online, all you have to do is read the chapters and respond to the threads every week. Also, there's an easy quiz every Saturday. Do the reading and you'll be okay.
Excellent Professor. The class is challenging but if you put in the hours you will be rewarded.
He's changed! now he has really hard online quizzes (for the regular class) , everybody was complaining about this class. If you really need to take him ask your friends to help you looking up the answers because you only have 15 min (not enough time to do it by yourself)
Dr. Buckley's class is a challenge but it is very interesting material and you'll learn a lot. I took it in 8 weeks which probably increased the difficulty. READ THE TEXT BOOK and take good notes. Work hard and it will pay off.
I took this class online. You have to READ the book! and write a well orderly format essay. Not 700 words! it should be concisely with some citation from the book, to get to your point. I notice students didn't comprehend how essay formats work. The quizzes are a bit difficult. Overall, I loved the class and it's pretty easy.
Taking political science with him ON CAMPUS is the the best choice I ever made. Although he can be rude at times he respects people who are outspoken and the class is overall easy. We watched movies, wrote esaays, and spoke about the film after. He even takes papers 2 weeks late, but will deduct points. However not so good for poli sci majors.
Overall Professor Buckley is crystal clear in his requirements in this online course. The way to get an A is to read the textbook thoroughly to get through the chapter by chapter quizzes, to get good supporting evidence for the weekly essays (threads), and to survive the midterm and final exam. The textbook is your best friend for better or worse.
Dr. Buckley is a fair professor. There is a ton of reading every week. There are three quizzes due each Saturday , which weren't too bad if you did the reading. His answers to questions are rather short . The threads really make you think and use your critical thinking skills. If you aren't into political science this class may be boring to you.
(8wk)Dr. Buckley's online course was simple and clear. 5 essays between 4-700 words, just provide a coherent response, and cite your sources and they should be easy. HOWEVER, the quizzes are ridiculously difficult, You really need to understand the text. there are 12, 10 question quizzes, 15min long and two 50 question test 1hr. he uses Exam guard
Taking my second online class of his. I don't like school nor am I a great student and I love his class. The weekly threads are 400-600 words. My english teacher hates my papers and he never has anything bad to say. If you do all the assignments and atleast google the answers you will pass if not get an A. Take any of his online classes.
Classes were 3 hours long but we watched a movie during most of the time and had a small discussion afterwards. The online quizzes are about the films we've watched. There is extra credit every week. Very chill prof.
Take his class. you wont regret it !!!!
He gives clear instructions on how to get full credit, the test and quizzes are all about the material in the book and understanding the 6 concepts of liberalism, individualism, etc. If you can stay on schedule, do your homework on time and listen to his instructions then it is an easy A. I liked him and the class, just a bit of devotion.
One of the most interesting online classes I have taken. Be prepared to write and take quizzes every week. Easy A if you put the effort on your essays.
Took him online, and he taught nothing. Not one thing. His slides were BS, and there was no lecture. I have no respect for this man after taking this BS class. He hated responding to questions. If you want to teach yourself, do a lot of work, & basically help this guy get a paycheck for doing absolutely nothing then take his class.
He is very clear in what he expects from the class, but if you want someone who is helpful, or even civil in his responses to your emails look elsewhere. He has quizzes for online classes on saturdays, which is a little ridiculous considering that most college students going to CC probably have work.
There's a weekly discussion where you post an essay and respond to 2 other students, take book-generated quizzes for completion credit, and then quizzes that are actually graded - expectations are pretty clear. What makes me really irritated about this class is that those quizzes are ONLY open Saturdays and a lot of reading is required.
He does not care about his student's success. I asked him how I could study better so I can get a good grade on the test and he just said to know the material and read it thoroughly? His lack of care is greatly shown especially when he makes his assignments due on a Saturday night.
Weekly threads and responses were due (sometimes the topics were tough to write about). He gave decent feedback and asked questions about what the students wrote. The reading is definitely mandatory for quizzes and midterms.
Watch movies in class then 10 question quiz on movie due sat nights. 400 word essay on related topic due sunday nights. 1 point extra credit available per week. you lose 2 points on essay if youre absent in class. He grades tough on essays. No mercy for those who miss tests, quiz's, essays. He's yelled at people for small things so dont test him.
Very hard tests that are extremely specific, making it hard to get the questions right. Offers no extra credit even for a grade less than 1% away from an A.
Lame class. I didn't learn anything and we just watched movies. He would often snap at people who didn't say anything after the films, but he didn't teach anything to provoke conversation. Saturday quizzes and Sunday essays are inconvenient. If you miss the Saturday midterm like many people in my class did, don't expect to have a chance to take it.
I know professors hate when students ask "will this be on the final?" Well... you literally NEVER hear a lecture in this course that relates to a quiz or exam. You also have to be online every Saturday morning. To top it off, lecturer Buckley has a serious lack of respect towards his students in class or email.
His tests are ridiculous. He asks questions on the most specific and unimportant information. Also doesn't answer back to emails often.
*online* seeing a lot of negative reviews but this class is truly not that hard if you put in the work. It's impossible to get an A without reading the textbook, so be prepared to read weekly assigned chapters and incorporate the book into your discussion post. All test questions can be found word for word in the book. You will do well if you read
Super rude ! Beware
Professor Buckley seems like he does not care about his students. While the course itself isn't bad, professor Buckley makes it worse. He gives minimal feedback and is often stark and impolite. Do not take if you do not follow directions because he will give you no credit for assignments missing his guidelines.
Despite the bad reviews, Professor Buckley made the class really interesting. The movies he chose all had to do with a certain topic that would help for the weekend essays. The quizzes were based on the movies and were really easy if you actually pay attention. All the movies were really interesting and captivating.
International Relations class was easy, Comparative Politics was more difficult because some quiz questions were not from the book. One discussion post a week and quizzes, I think we had 2 tests.
easy A if you show up and do the assignments. A man of few words. hard to read him. he is short and to the point
He is very strict with his grading and offers no extra credit. Assigns discussion posts that must be 400 words every week and about three quizzes each week. He never gives perfect scores on his discussions always 90/100. I guess no one is good enough for him. He does not care about his students or his job. Lazy professor DO NOT TAKE HIM.
Buckley is a very straight to the point man. Many students confuse this with "mean", which is far from the truth. He is very respectful, he just has a clear grading criteria. Each assignment is worth points, and a certain number gets you an A. It is very possible to get an A in the class! I didn't get one because I was lazy on initial assignments.
absolutely HATE this teacher. It's so difficult to receive an A, that you end up just wanting to drop the class. He makes assignments due in the middle of the week, which makes planning your time really hard and is honestly just an inconvenience. the purpose of online classes is to be able to do the work when is convenient for YOU. 20/10 DONT take
Weekly essays based on chapters. You dont really need to read, just look for key words. Little tough on grading. the usual comment on other's posts/essays. answers to quizes are online. I had a B and since i aced my final he agreed to bump my grade to an A. do research on what youre writting!!! respond to his questions on your posts.
Took this teacher for an online class in politics. Super easy, just one online quiz each week and you can find all the answers online and one discussion of 400 words a week. Easy A and you don't need the book. Would definitely take this teacher again!
If you're gonna take his class for a short semester I don't recommend at at all. His class is very easy, it's just the crazy amount of reading involved plus the discussions that you have to do every week. On top of that, when you do take his quizzes which are only 10 questions but since you have an crazy amount of reading, u never know what to stud
I am currently taking a Comparative Politics online class with Dr. Buckley, and I couldn't be more pleased. The online class is well organized with points allocated to discussions (essays), quizzes, mid-term, and final. Dr. Buckley is a fair grader who gives students the opportunity to collect points by responding to his questions. I learned a ton.
Hes very clear on how to pass the class Just do every assignment and read. The books are easy to read and interesting. He helps a lot. Gives enough time for studying and all answers are in the book. Awesome and down to earth.
This class consist of discussion and quiz's every week and it is one of the hardest online classes I have done my whole life. This class is excessively way to difficult and extreme for someone that is new to online classes. Be careful and be prepared to write papers on papers. I feel like I am stuck in a whole and cry every time I open my laptop.
This class consists of full on paper every week and expects you to write like a doctoral degree in English and nothing is ever enough. Expect to cry every day thinking how you will study for your quiz and completing your discussion. Be careful and make sure you are able to do this class because this class should be worth 6 units. Non understanding!
I Crashed This Class, Watched 1 Film A Week, You Take A Quiz For Every Film ( 10 Q's) & Write A 3-4 Page Paper On Prompt For The Week. There Are Little To None Extra Credit. Show Up To Class On Time, All The Way Through, and Participate. Cite Works On Papers & Turn Everything On Time & YOU Will Receive A Passing Grade (Hopefully a A+ Like I Did)
I took this class to learn about International Politics/Policies. A large component of the class was dedicated to structuring our arguments/thesis development. Students were provided the opportunity to further support their thesis after initial submission/Dr. Buckley's Comments. Of 5 essays, I was asked to do this once; a solid class/experience.
This is a basic poli sci class, there is no reason the professor had to make it so difficult. My problem is he was an extremely harsh grader and the quizzes were so specific that you couldn't possibly remember the answers. The quizzes are timed so you can hardly look at notes or even google as a last resort. tanked my GPA.
Professor Buckley is one of a kind. He does not suffer fools easily and will not hold your hand. He is passionate which is refreshing. He is extremely well-read and you will learn a lot. This a great class with amazing films every week plus papers and quizzes that reflect that week's theme. He is great if you want to learn and participate.
My understanding of politics as a whole has been increased dramatically. The weekly discussion essays really help to solidify your grasp of specific ideas and also the opposing side. The textbook is an absolute joy to read and I'll be keeping it. If you do the chapter readings and pay attention, you'll really upgrade your view of the world.
Dr. Buckley is entirely average. You can basically show up and pass this course if you participate. The work is easy, his engagement is minimal, with feedback like, "ok" on papers. If you want to really learn something new, this isn't the professor for you. If you want to cross off that prerequisite, he's perfect.
Dr. Buckley gave little to no feedback. After posting discussions, he might pose questions in response, but gave no feedback on how to improve work. He did not engage in the class, but you could learn his politics - he graded those he agreed with better than those he disagreed with politically. Lazy and arrogant is how I'd describe him.
This guy is the worst, dont expect feedback or commentary on how you can improve your discussion posts. He nitpicks your work and NEVER actually teaches beside assigning reading from the textbooks. This is a basic poli science class but expects you to be an english major also. Do not take!!
Ive taken a bunch of 8 week courses, but this one is tough. As a more advanced level writer, I tend to breezy through courses that make you write a lot since its basically just research- not for this class. Buckley is seeping with cognitive bias and makes his Facebook style short essays an upward battle with super condescending comments. Be-ware.
Took his 8 week online class. He's the type of professor to reply "K." to your emails. He does not grade discussions generously and has some sort of bias, giving very poor feedback to improve on your next essay. His weekly quizzes are much easier. However, you will not pass this class without reading every chapter from the textbook.
I took Buckley's 8-week course. There is a discussion(Essay) and 2 quizzes every week. The class is hard but if you read the textbook and and work hard you will get an A.
If you have to take this class for credit in order to transfer, choose another professor. So much work that it feels impossible to be able to get it all done, especially because he is an extremely harsh grader. He gave me a 0 on an assignment I turned in, I emailed him to ask about it and a day later he dropped me with no explanation.
His online class is based on weekly (1 or 2) quizzes and discussion boards, which are essays. PPL like to complain about him being a tough grader but TRUST ME when I tell you that some PPl posted literal garbage and expected to get an A. Some didn't even know how to cite or write paragraphs. Best advice, take English 1 first. Its really not hard.
I took him during fall and it consisted of one zoom meeting a week where we would watch a film and have a small discussion after then we would take a 10 question quiz on said film& also have a 400-600 essay due every week but very manageable. Overall, such a nice professor, you surprisingly learn a lot and a fun class. Final is based on all quizzes
Hes a really horrible professor he does not engage at all and didnt enter in 4 quizzes for me and I emailed him so many times and he just ignored me I regret taking this class he is so rude and unhelpful.
First of all, he does not reply back to emails and does not teach at all. During covid, we have to learn ourselves from reading the textbook nO lectures or zoom meetings. No support whatsoever, besides his grading system, is so odd YOU HAVE TO WORK, for an A or B.
The class is structured like typical online classes. He does not give great feedback at all. He makes odd comments and doesn't suggest how you can improve on your discussions. As long as you do the work, quizzes, and readings you should be able to pass. Also make sure to give your best work with the discussions.
Took his Scholars 8-week class and it was a lot of work, but I LOVED it. You'll learn a lot of valuable information in this class. A lot of writing (400-600 word discussions), but the topics are interesting and he offers feedback. Weekly chapter quizzes, 5 discussion essays, a midterm and a final. SEE HIM DURING OFFICE HRS. He's there to help you!
I took his 8-weeks class, and I read a lot and wrote a lot. However, you need to use a textbook because of every discussion and test from the textbook. Basically, the discussion is an essay, so you must follow an essay format to do this assignment.
Meh. Totally lacks inspiration. Hes incredibly boring. However, the class is ok and easy, has a good, steady pace and is very predictable. You should be able to write and research a bit, grade is mainly based on weekly discussions which are like mini essays. I actually really enjoyed writing them. All the answers to quizzes and exams are on Quizlet.
Took an 8-week version. No original lecture materials, it's just slides from the textbook publisher. Not much to look at in the actual website. Your "feedback" is a generic comment. This is a great example of a "ghost professor" with minimal interaction. At least the textbook is interesting.
I can respect harsh grading if instructions and feedback are given but Buckley is just elsewhere. My success in this class feels like it is in spite of Buckley, not because of him. The textbook and subject matter are interesting, having Buckley just made it difficult to enjoy. Also, the weekly quizzes, midterm, and final were all on Sunday.
This is just a woke film class where actually learning abt polsci is extra credit. Every quiz/test is on Sunday and are abt specific details in the movie so u have to pay close attention to things like character names. It's a fairly easy class but the professor does not seem to care and doesn't give feedback. Some of the essay topics were cool tho
This class is very easy, all you do is watch movies if you're into political films this is the class for you but if you're actually majoring in Political Science on a Pre-Law track do not take this class. There is no substance, all you do is watch movies then get graded on things you weren't taught but you're somehow expected to know.
Don't take his class unless you're ready to be graded based off his opinion. He gives zero feedback, expects you to know things he doesn't teach you, and grades so poorly. he doesn't seem to care at all, probably explains why it feels more like a film class than a political science one. You don't learn politics just political movies.
So dismissive and passive aggressive. Is a tough grader and gives no feedback on weekly discussions which are worth 100 points. Doesn't teach at all just expects you to read the textbook. Literally the worst.
He is teaching three different classes and everything is different for each class. He has a Synchronous and Asynchronous class and depending on which class you're in the work is different but he groups you all together like you are. The class is lecture-heavy or test-heavy depending on the class. You can do everything right and still get an A.
The content of this class is great and I've learned a lot abt intern. relations. But the prof. is the worst. He gives 0 feedback. 0 extra credit. He doesn't want you to pass. The only "feedback" he gives is a question to make you write even more. This class could be amazing if he wasn't such a terrible prof.. Im a 4.0 stdnt Ended with a 87%
If I could give him a 0, I would. This man would never respond to my emails and would input the wrong scores on tests/quizzes. When I asked him to correct my grade in Canvas, he would just ignore me. After he finally responded, he said it was too late because he already submitted our final grades. It was complete BS.
I took 8-week Comp. Gov with Professor Buckley and I really enjoyed it. Almost the entire grade is on discussion posts, so if you enjoy writing, this should be an easy class for you. One tip I would give if you are taking his class is write longer than suggested (1000-1500wc) and use a lot of examples. The longer essays almost always scored higher.
Incredibly rude professor. I ordered the wrong textbook by mistake, let him know & missed a few quizzes on the first week of class because I didn't have the material. I asked if he could reopen the quizzes for me so I could take them, even if just for partial credit, and he said no! What kind of professor says no to making up work? Tanked my grade
Professor Alan is amazing ! I met with the professor every week for an office hour to assist me with my discussion, he told me No one will fail his class as long as they turn in ALL of the work. He is easily accessible just send a email asking to zoom meet and the times available for you , very caring and try his best to make the class enjoyable
If you want to spend your week reading 80 pages per chapter, then sign up for this class. He is not vocal at ALL in the class, and he never gives feedback, he just grades and moves on. Anything you do must be perfect or else you fail. Lastly, the reading is extremely confusing and doesn't correlate with International politics at all. Don't take!!
While I enjoyed learning the information, I found it to be very stressful. 5 essays, 18 quizzes, and 2 exams. All of the lectures came from the textbook publisher, he does not provide any feedback for essays, and for our class, had 3 quizzes due on the same day as the final. Got a good grade, but definitely put A LOT more work into this class.
Took this class for an easy A but definitely a lot more tough than I expected only because he is a pretty tough grader, never once was I able to get an A on a discussion post which by the way he expects an essay for each discussion post 400-600 words. We had 2 online quizzes and 2 chapter quizzes each week which weren't super difficult.
People complaining about essays forget that PS7 is an honors course. Buckley is a very good professor, one who encourages you to think and form opinions based upon fact rather than spewing the popular take of the day. He challenges you in your essay and writing, which very much helped me. Great professor, would recommend for dedicated PS majors.
If you don't like writing argumentative essays, you'll hate Professor Buckley as you'll have to write five essays over the course of the class. I personally found them interesting, and he gave good feedback. The tests included lots of random statistics that we didn't learn, but they were relatively easy.
I took the 8-week course, and it was hard only because of the weekly essays, but you have to put effort into your work. Prof. Buckley appreciates long essays that show a good understanding of the discussion topic, his grading seems biased, but if you reply to his comments under your discussion, you will get a higher grade. Write as much as possible
I took Pol Sc 7 again since it was. requirement, and Professor Buckley was definitely a tough professor. His assignments are weekly discussion essays and he grades with bias and it depends on what you say. The quizzes aren't too bad and the required textbook is a bit irrelevant. Not an easy A and you really have to work for your grade.
I messaged him for advice and he ghosted me. in fact, my canvas dashboard mysteriously vanished after I emailed him 1 month after class ended. Some of his in-class advice was to use Jstor - as if no student knows. He provided just enough words to meet the moment. Don't expect help after class ends. No nonsense guy, distant, vibe is a bit dark.
Thid class made me cry. I don't understand when professors make the course harder than it's supposed to be knowing damn well we want to transfer. He basically is not there for you, you're on your own.Very HARSH on grading
Course consists of multiple quizzes, discussions, and 2 exams. He isn't accessible as I tried contacting him twice and got no response. You have to buy the textbook to cite in your discussion essays. There is no rubric for the essays so its a hit or miss most times. Missing out 1 assignment brings your grade down. No extra credit. Independent work.
This has probably been the worst professor I have ever met. He is unaccessible. He dropped me for his course for no reason and then I had to email him to reinstate me to his class and gave no reason to why he dropped me after completing his assignments. The discussion posts can be a hit or miss, since he does not have a clear rubric. \
The class consist of watching a movie and discussing about it for 5 minutes. One essay per week, no guidance, no criteria, nothing just a subject is indicated in the description, you have to guess what is expected from you. No feedback either and he never responds to emails. He clearly wants to do as little as possible.
Scholar here. It's not a hard class if you submit everything on time. Do not miss any quiz or exam; he might not give you a 2nd chance. 5 discussion posts; difficult to get more than 90, but try to always answer his response to your discussion essay. It might boost your grade a bit. Not a good professor honestly, not engaging at all.
Dr. Buckley is an interesting instructor. The class required a lot of participation in discussions and quiz. A lot of reading and research is needed to succeed in his class. It was very stressful especially in a shorter semester. Answering quizzes also needed a lot of attention to detail to the textbook. Honestly not recommended but worth the shot.
Frequent discussion posts and he does not hand out many A's. This class is not for cheaters. Exam answers are not on the internet and solely based on textbook. Do not consider using A.I or ChatGPT in his class because he will call you out on the discussion board and it will be embarrassing for you. He will argue against you in your discussion posts
This class definitely weeds out bad writers. Grading is based off of weekly discussion essays (400-600 words), with arguments needing to be well articulated and based off strong evidence. Its hard to get an A every time, and he rewards thinking outside the box and unique arguments, so try to stand out. Take if you're good at reading and writing.
You have to be a good writer to do well in his class. Don't go into it thinking you can cheat since it is online (he will know). He will counter-argue points you made in your weekly essays so be prepared to have a solid response. An A is definitely possible just cite the textbook and reliable outside sources and be confident in your responses.
