wow. what an amazing teacher. he is so dedicated and eager to help everyone. it's obvious that he LOVES teaching. i'm in his college composition class and will try to take his creative writing class, not because i like writing, but because i think he's an great teacher. i would HIGHLY recommend taking his classes.

Dreaded taking an ENG class before this, but definitely taking 112 with him next time he teaches it. Show up, put in the effort in and out of class and you're golden!

Ace! I'm currently taking him online and he's awesome! He grades you on the quality of your work rather than your ability to agree with his viewpoints (which he doesn't state at all, awesome!). We wrote a ton of argumentative papers and he was very helpful. I would recommend taking him.

Took his class online and it involved alot of work. If you're looking for an easy online class with minimal work, then this isn't for you. There is an assignment(usually a paper) due every week and when youre working and also taking other classes at the same time it becomes very time consuming. I took this as an ELI class. His discussion board questions and assignments are thought provoking and very interested! He truly cares about his students! Great professor!

If you do the work there's no way to fail. You just have to TRY and he'll see the effort and give you a good grade. Creative Writing was really fun, be ready to discuss your work and have people talk about it in workshops, those REALLY help you be a better writer. Easy A if you just try.

I hated English until I took this class. He chose interesting & important topics - but also broad enough for everyone to enjoy. While he does expect well written assignments he's more interested in what you have to say, how you analyze, and present arguments. His teaching is amazing. No text required. Assignments are vague, but that's okay because he seems to want you to define the assignment yourself and doesn't mark you down for interpreting the assignment your own way. Just do the work on time and this class is an easy A. Mr. Chiles repsonds to emails quickly if you have a question. Midterm and final are easy, too.

Best online teacher I every had. Straight forward course work. All assignments are explained well. His assignments are very interesting and challenging. He answers emails back quickly. Only down side he doesn't give much feed back on assignments.

Challenging class but not hard at all. There is an essay due every week that he grades kind of harshly but still will get a B. There is a lot of peer work together. The class is not hard but it is time consuming. You'll pass the class if you know how to BS in a grammatically correct way.

By far the best instructor I have had for English. English is a subject I struggle in a great deal. He made a class that normally terrifies me clear and informative and in an interesting way. If I had any questions he responded in a short amount of time.

I took his 8 week class online. There were tons of homework and discussion forum required. He is very responsive, I got a response in every email I sent out. Just make sure to finish by his deadlines in order to get full credit. There are couple of research paper involved and a group project. I'd say it's doable, I worked hard to get an A.

He is clear, gives interesting topics to write about, send deadline reminders (within 1 day) I normally had 4 assignments week (3 graded), there were all connected, and gradually advanced in depth. He does not give feedback on lower grade assignments, and does not accept late work. To be ok: Keep up with the schedule and do all the assignments.

I enjoyed the class though be sure to post your work on time. I easily got an A. Fun assignments and he responds to your emails quickly. Highly recommend.

The final is an essay about what you learned in the class, and he gives extra credit! A lot of the work depends on participation, so if you actually do you work, you'll pass. He's super nice!

Everything is presented clearly at the beginning on what is expected. I was able to improve my writing and understand the fundamentals of writing an essay. There is plenty of constructive feedback and assignments are graded quickly. Excellent class.

He's a good professor. I took an eight-week course and it took some work. Assignments are due midnight on Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday every week, however, they are accessible from the very beginning of semester. He's fair and the assignments are interesting.

Great Prof. I took his online, 8-week course and the process was so smooth. Had 4 essays to turn in, 2 of them were exams. Homework consisted of reading and responding to articles and classmate's forums. There were a couple simple quizzes. He gave great feedback and was there when you needed him. 100% recommend this guy. I had the pleasure of having Instructor Chiles for ENG 112. I took the 8 week accelerated online class for Fall 2017. There is a lot of writing and research involved however, topics are very interesting which makes the work very tolerable. He gives constructive feedback and is very fair in grading. 1 mid term and 1 Final, I highly recommend him!

I took professor Chiles 16wks in person an it was really easy. We were assigned 5 total papers with 2 being one midterm and one final. Discussion boards were a weekly assignment but really easy. If you dont get at least a B just drop out of college.

You will like to sit in Prof. Chiles' class and listen to him to explain the boring writhing skills vividly and accessibly with both powerful verbal language and effective body language. Plus, no textbook, all you need to do is writing 5 essays. And he will there for you whenever you have problem. Good choice to be his student.

For the midterm, we were allowed to use a prepared outline & final was a reflecive essay on what we learned in class. I had him for a first 8-week summer course this year. As long as you know how to push yourself with deadlines that may seem tight, you can earn an A in his class! The assignments he gives you have variety and are interesting enough where you won't get bored. You'll be writing several papers, but the final exam is pretty easy. No textbook required!

Prof Chiles online eng 112 course was very well structured and grading criteria was clear. However, he takes a long time to grade assignments. Course has 2 exams (midterm and final). Course is separated by 4-5 units. Lots of reading and writing. Almost every unit ends with a paper. Gives good feedback on assignments. Would take again.

Hes easy - I took him online. There was maybe an hours worth of homework every week. The quizzes were so easy (and can be found online). Just turn in your homework every week and youll be fine. The 2 exams are essays and youre allowed to bring in an outline (the outline is a homework assignment). He is reasonable and you learn ab cool topics!

Professor Chiles is a very energetic, passionate teacher which makes him a good choice for a earlier class. Every paper was between 2-4 pages , 4 papers in total plus a pretty easy final paper reflecting on the class. 10 discussion boards that are pretty easy. Also he's british but sounds australian so that's kinda cool.

Take this professor, you won't regret it. He is extremely caring and wants you to succeed. Gives great feedback when grading your work. I took this professor in fall 2018. He is literally the best English professor at Nova!! He is not a tough grader at all. He is so nice and will help you when you need it. Such an easy A class with him. You are just graded by 4 papers that are easy to do.

Great professor, but rough on grading if this is your second language. He takes off a lot of point if you have grammar issues. Very clear on all his assignment/ discussion board/essays and reply quick on email. Easy to talk to and willing to help students. Get ready to write a lot! 10 discussion board/1-2 paragraph each. 5 essays total.

Pressor Chiles is a very good guy and gives good feedback to improve your writing. He does give a lot of assignments on top of multiple papers so be ready for that. However hes very approachable guy who encourages discussion and communication so hes open to any questions or concerns.

He's very nice and sends emails each week stating what needs to be done that week. He isn't a harsh grader, but he is quite strict on grammar and punctuation, so you'll get points off for that. I highly recommend this professor because he gives a variety of different assignments rather than just essays.

Professor Chiles was a pretty good professor. I really liked him for my 8 week ENG 112 class. There were a few easy quizzes and discussion boards. The essays did take a long time to write. The only thing I HATED about the course was the podcast unit where he expected people to have editing skills. At least he's a very easy grader.

Chiles class is a great class to practice your literature and writing skills. He gives clear feedback on all your work, and only takes off a few points on grammar. Pretty sure he gives a good chunk of credit for good faith effort. Some of his assignments were tedious though. What annoyed me is that he had a final project and a final test at the end

Relatively easy grader. Final exam and midterm consist of an essay that is opinion based and is based on the assignments previous to the exam. They also include some multiple-choice questions, but they are easy. There is some extra credit. Some assignments are worth a lot (almost as much as the exams).

Really chill professor. Not a ton of homework and as long as you turn in your homework on time. Gives great feedback to help raise your grade. I had no problems

Hands down my favorite English teacher. He always gave great feedback on papers and had reasonable deadlines for the papers. Lots of reading-but that is to be expected in an English course. Papers almost every day, but they were short and really sharpens your writing skills. Discussion boards were insightful and offered many different viewpoints.

Prof. Chiles is a great instructor, he's very caring and helpful. I took this class during the summer, Mysteries in Lit & Film.. I LOVED THE CLASS! Though there's assignments for all chapters, every text/film viewed are very interesting. I watched films I never thought I would, and I think I would do it again. Definitely recommend!

Professor Chiles did a really great job of laying out exactly what you were supposed to do for each assignment, so there was no confusion. You definitely have to put in the work to get the readings done on time, but I never felt like Chiles assigned too much work per week, so I was never overwhelmed by the course load.

Mr. Chiles/Adam is a really COOL teacher! I have never taken creative writing until now & it was the BEST choice I've ever made! I wish he was teaching ENG212 so I can register for his class again. He allows his students to explore creativity (not picky) in writing & as long as you do the assignments and participate, you'll get an A for sure.

Professor Chiles keeps his lectures entertaining. He plans out all lectures and all assignments making your skills get better. There are 4 essays in total throughout the semester. You have to show up to class for points. He is very understanding when you are going through situations mentally or having a tough time.

Wasn't always a big fan of writing and I'm not English savvy at all, but I got A's on every one of my essays when I didn't even think deserved an A. Mr. Chiles is a great professor. Even though we don't meet in class he gives great comments on assignments and if you have questions he responds quickly through email. He does give 2 assignments a week, but that's what to expect for a 12-week class. The assignments are that hard you just have to put in a little work. Professor Chiles is the GOAT!

Professor Chiles is one the best professors NOVA has to offer! I had him for creative writing last year and he was absolutely amazing! He has a Harry Potter meets Austin Powers vibe. On the first day of class he spoke so firmly and as if he were yelling at us but this was because he is so passionate about what he does!

Best English teacher I've had yet. Just show up to class on time, write a few papers, and its an easy A. He only takes off 1% if you turn something in a day late, and gives very generous grades. If this is your first class at nova, take it at a reasonable time so you won't be late or absent since that is basically the whole grade for eng111 classes

(I took this professor for ENG 236: Short Story.) Professor Chiles has been my favorite English professor at NOVA. His class is very well organized and easy to navigate. I loved the stories he had listed to read and the discussion boards which were actually really fun to be a part of. The professor is also very friendly and responds fast :)

I took him for ENG 111 and 112 and I wish I could take him again. He is an amazing professor and I truly enjoyed studying because of him. He teaches a lot of great stuff if u take him through an in-person class. I wish I could take him again truly and I truly miss having chill teachers like him. and would only have 1 assignment per week. TAKE HIM.

Professor Chiles is engaging and passionate. While attendance is strict, his feedback helps improve writing skills. I found unstuck AI a great tool for boosting study prep along with the course materials.

Took this class along with 3 other classes during the Summer 2024 semester. Do I recommend doing that? No. Do I recommend this class? Big yes. If you're interested in Mystery, this class is definitely for you. Grading was clear in each assignment; and he will give feedback in a submission comment and/or if you ask for it. Loved this course a lot.

I love Prof. Chiles. Modules created by him. Materials in Canvas. Content clear/engaging. Passion for students. With MOA, I had a safe environment. Knew names. Embraced culture. Room for beliefs in writing. Fostered connection. Gave benefit of the doubt, helped understand. I struggle with mental health, he saw worth. These words come from my heart.

Professor Chiles is a very, very lenient teacher. He really wants his students to pass. His work isn't difficult whatsoever. I had him for an online course. I had his wife last year for ENG 111 and she is good as well.

He gave very clear feedback on how to properly complete my assignments. I'd say he was a pretty easy grader as long as you followed the rubric. Would definitely take again.

Prof Chiles is great! Definitely recommend you take him as hes generous with his grading, engaging with his lectures, and overall cares for his students and their education. He gave multiple extra credit opportunities through the semester. Its still an english class so duhhh theres writing, but topics are interesting and easy to get invested in.

Professor Adam is the best professor in NOVA he really cares about his students and give feedbacks for all the assignments. Please if you can take his class you going to like it

Hands Down! the best Professor I've ever had! I never considered myself a good writer before taking this class, but after I took his class I am more aware of my abilities. Although it was only a ten week course I learned lots. I 100% recommend!

Mr. Chiles is one of the best professors I've had. Just do the work and you'll get a good grade. His rubrics are very clear. Since it's English, you'll write papers, best as a 15-week course. Overall, TAKE HIM! He's excellent and you won't be disappointed. CLASS IS EASY A! His feedback is amazing and grade always on time.
