A very nie man. He joked around a lot and tried to make the class not as boring as it actually was. He told lots of interesting stories in class. He would tell you what would be on the test the class or two before the test. We had the opportunity to earn 4 bonus points on our final grade. He gave a study guide for parts of 2/3 tests we had.
It was a very informative class. Dr. Decker made a class I thought I would dread, very good. I would definitely recommend him. He is well prepared and always seems to have a smile.
One of the best HPS teachers. Fairly easy and gives easy opportunities for extra credit (up to 4 points on your average). Attendance not mandatory or necessary.
Great professor. Really cares about students. I hardly ever skipped a lecture. Not that I was interested in the material, but he made lectures interesting with his enthusiasm and humor. He tells you pretty much all of the details you need to know for the tests and they aren't hard. I studied for an hour or 2 the day of the exams and did fine.
He is one of the better health teachers, but don't expect like high school health. You will need to put effort into it
What a refreshing professor. I just took the summer session and have to say I really enjoyed it. Dr. Decker was engaging, funny and very knowledgeable. I will definitely recommend his class to my friends.
Class was pretty boring, but Dr. Decker has some pretty good stories. Tests are m/c and directly from lecture slides. 3 tests, 3 online quizzes, 2 easy assignments and one essay. 5 extra credit points are available on final average
Great professor. Makes health class actually interesting. Don't have to show up, but you might want to anyways. Also, easy A as long as you study for the tests and do all the assignments, of which there are not many.
I did bad on my first quiz. However If u spend the whole afternoon before each test you will easily get an A. Just study from the power points and memorize them by hear. I aced the remaining tests easily. Don't even buy the book. Just buy the access code online which contains an online version of the book.
I am really enjoying Dr Decker's class so far. He has lots of student participation and everyone seems engaged. He is easy to listen to.
Dr. Decker is a great instructor. He teaches everything you need to know in a very clear & precise manner. You'll need the book for the online quizzes. But his tests come directly from his ppts and lectures. He makes the lectures interesting with stories and facts from his past. Attend lectures because he'll give you answers for the tests.
I took this class in the summer and the lectures were really long. There were only 2 exams and contained a lot of information to memorize. I wished Dr. Decker would take his time to explain the material rather than skip some of the major topics that are on the exams.
Dr. Decker is an amazing anatomist. The class is so relevant if you are going to graduate school, medical, dental, PT, etc... His lectures are clear, to the point and engaging. You never want to miss class. He has been my favorite professor so far at GT. highly recommend!!
I just finished my first semester in a graduate DPT program. Dr. Decker's human anatomy course saved me. I found myself teaching others in my class. I will never forget "skunkus in my uncus" highly recommend him for any class.
Professor Decker was very knowledgeable in human anatomy. He took what could have been a very dry and boring subject and brought it to life with many clinical examples. He made the course very relevant if you are going into a health professional field, like med school. I will be taking him for APPH 1040 when he teaches it next.
Very funny, very clear. Class in general is not the most exciting but he definitely makes it better.
I had Professor Decker for human anatomy. I can honestly say I walked away from the class with a greater understanding of human anatomy that I will certainly take with me to medical school. He was extremely knowledgeable, caring and went above and beyond most teachers at GT. Take Dr. Decker if you plan on going to grad school.
Dr. Decker is a great lecturer and a great guy. The tests were a little difficult, though, especially for APPH 1040. But I would take the class over again just for the lectures. You can really tell that he is passionate about the subject, and it rubs off on his students.
I took this over the summer. So much material crammed in to such little time. Was a total of 6 or 7 lectures at 3 hours each. If you can, just take it during a full semester.
Dr. Decker is an awesome professor for human anatomy! He always adds clinical examples and fun tidbits to accompany the lectures which keeps me focused and interested. His tests are very detailed and get into the nitty gritty of everything he covers, but I feel like I learned a lot in his class and had fun doing it!
I had Decker on Pacific Program, and I'm actually writing this review before even finished the class. Wonderful guy, absolutely hilarious, and very straightforward with his class. First day of class he told us "This is a 2 hour class, and I will treat it like a 2 hour class." He clearly also knows A TON about the subject, and is passionate.
He's just a good-natured person who genuinely cares about what he's teaching. I took it over summer short semester which was over a 2-hour class, but he knows how hard it is to sit and focus for that long so he made it fun and often gave us breaks. He made what would normally be a boring class, amazing. 10/10 would recommend. Easy material.
Super easy class- tests are 100% a memorization game. But, you'll also have a ton of fun in the class and you will actually retain the information you learn. Though I believe I still could've ended with a 98 without attending, do attend the class!! Dr. Decker is engaging and funny, he really cares about his students' success. Awesome dude!
Not too hard of a class if you put the time in. Heavily tested on small details and diagrams. He really cares about his students and loves what he teaches, but class can get a little boring.
Human Pathology course was outstanding. He introduced USLME licensing board questions to prepare us. I feel very ready for medical school .Dr. Decker loves this stuff and always gives 110% for each lecture. Watch out for exams . Your hand will be cramping after doing 4 -5 pages of essay style questions and case studies. Excellent course,,
Dr. Decker is THE BEST. He is so funny. The tests can be a little specific so make sure to actually study but he does give a lot of extra credit. I took this in the summer and he always let us leave like an hour early. Super chill guy!
Dr. Decker was so much fun, especially since his content could be boring at times. He teaches a mandatory class for all students, so I'd recommend getting his if you can. He genuinely cares that students learn something helpful from his course despite it being mandatory, and I feel like I did. GO TO CLASS because he gives exam hints.
Dr. Decker is one of the preeminent anatomists in Georgia. This man loves what he does and is a valuable resource if you plan on going to graduate school in any healthcare field. He presents the material in a way that makes you want to come to lecture. He is also using human prosected cadavers in anatomy lab. The whole experience is outstanding!
He came in on his own time Sunday morning to give us a review for the big joint and muscle test this week. He tests on origin, insertion, innervation and action. He knew it would be our most challenging test so far. All I can say is start studying early! I will definitely take him for Human Pathology.
Dr. Decker is awesome. One of the funniest professors you will ever have. This guy is brilliant, but he knows that if you're taking 1040 you most likely are there just for the credit. He understands this and makes the class as painless as possible. Take him, you won't regret it.
Dr. Decker is a great and caring professor with a thorough understanding of the content he teaches. He occasionally goes off on tangents on material that isn't of importance, but he really does a good job of preparing students for pre-health programs and future anatomy courses. Given the course is anatomy course, memorization is key.
I had Human Pathology with Prof. Decker. The course was an upper level senior course and I worked for my grade. All the content was med school based and I feel I have a good foundation for medical school. I am applying to Emory and hope this class gives me an edge. Cardiac pathology was my favorite especially all the fetal septal defects.
I am really thankful that Dr. Decker teaches at Georgia Tech. Because it is a research school, there are not many health base classes or professors that understand that some students want to become doctors. I am just so grateful for all the work you have put into anatomy/pathology for us to further our careers as physicians.
Human anatomy with Dr. Decker was a great experience. I attended his human neuroanatomy seminar he conducted for the GT neuroscience club last fall. He used real human brains and spinal cords. We were all on the edge of our seats as we learned internal brain structures. Im taking pathology when he offers it next.
His assignments were very easy and his exams came straight from the lectures. He's very specific about what is going to be on the exam. Lectures can be long but some parts are pretty interesting because they're applicable to real life.
Dr. Decker is a laid-back professor. I had him for the summer session and he was really understanding. The lectures, although some students find them drawn out, were really interesting. He makes jokes during the lectures. Assignments are easy and tests are mildly difficult if you don't study, though I can only speak for the online version of APPH.
Had him online for short summer session. His teaching format was powerpoints with attached audio narration on each slide. He seems very passionate about what he does, which makes the lectures interesting and engaging. He also adds some hilarious jokes in there. Really cool. Down to earth. The assignments teaches you about yourself. Take good notes.
Pathology with prof Decker was an outstanding experience. I am currently a first year med student at Emory and am already using the info he taught me in path and anatomy.
He's the best! Very knowledgable and really wants his students to get the most out of the Health requirement.
I love this man! Taking human anatomy online is not ideal, but he has made it actually enjoyable. Tons of information and detail, but the course is laid out perfectly and well organized. I cant wait to get back to campus and shake this professors hand. I hope I can take the human pathology course next time he offers it.
Backloaded the entire semester and you grade through your first 3 tests is a joke. The self proclaimed most accommodating professor of the 21st century... it seems course stability is lost when too much accommodation is made and students who work very hard and get 4.0s are, by chance alone, left to get lower grades than the rest.
A lot of students were screwed by the end of the semester. It is not recommended that you take him online. Maybe in person he is better when there are four exams and 1 final. He ended up dropping an exam and having the final over a small section with questions unlike any of the past tests. Seemed really inconsistent and it tricked many people.
I love Dr. Decker. He is very knowledgeable and good at conveying that knowledge in an engaging way. He sprinkles in lots of stories and anecdotes. I feel that I learn a lot in lecture. The tests are challenging because of the large information volume, so make sure you study.
Dr. Decker's an expert, no doubt about it. He's lecture-heavy and can be dry to listen to, but he gives an amazing foundation in Anatomy for anyone Pre-Health. He gives lots of acronyms to help you remember, and regularly reminds you not to wait til the last minute to study for his class. So, take good notes & pay attention to the little details!
I had Dr. Decker for 4 classes: Anatomy, Pathology, 1040 and Cardiac Diseases. He was tough but fair. In Anatomy, dont get behind on the readings in Moores. He uses some of the book on his exams. The cadaver prosections were really cool. Holding organs was the highlight of my undergrad studies. Highly recommend him.
Dr. Decker did a great job with Human Pathology. The USLME step 1 style questions at the end of the course were difficult by doable. I am so ready for med school next year thanks to this man. He is a GT treasure.
Professor Decker is awesome. Lectures are super interesting and he is really fun. Tests are easy (if you take good notes) and assignments are simple. Has a delorean which he let us see which was really cool.
I took this class for the summer short session. I was loaded with other classes so I didn't attend his lecture, and was able to get an A by looking at the slides he sends out. His lectures are really interesting and diverse, so I would say go if you can, especially if you like anatomy.
I am taking human anatomy with Dr Decker and the lectures are very engaging. The man loves what he does for sure. I am definitely taking pathology in the spring. I have been on the fence between biomed engineering and medicine and he has changed my outlook. Seeing the cadavers in lab is something i am looking forward to
Dr. Decker is very passionate about anatomy! The class content is generally going to be tough to learn just because it's anatomy but Dr. Decker makes it engaging and fun to learn by sharing these hilarious, relevant stories & mnemonics. Very caring & enthusiastic. I am a visual & kinematic learner so I didn't have cram/stress bc of how he taught.
Dr. Decker is a great lecturer and really passionate about the course material. He'll be the first to tell you he's not super concerned about your grade in this course, he cares more about preparing you for the next phase in your education. You definitely have to work for your grade, but it's a great class.
Tests were open-note, but I still feel like I learned a tremendous amount in this class despite it being so. Don't fall behind in lecture and review the material every day, and you're guaranteed an A with him as your professor.
Given the pandemic, I found out the course was modified from what is was previously, so I dont know how hell have it set up in the future. I think he mentioned all testing will be back in class, so online tests will most likely be no more. I found the course thoroughly engaging and very informative. Dr. D. has a true passion for the material.
I am currently in human pathology. We covered our first case study and I found myself hanging onto every word Dr. Decker said. He actually uses students as demos which really makes the study come alive. I want to be a cardiologist, so I am excited to get to cardiac pathology.
Very passionate about anatomy and really engaging in class. Make sure to write down everything he says as his quiz questions are pulled directly from his lectures. 4 straightforward case studies and 8 or so quizzes that can trick you up if you aren't studying/paying attention to what he says in class. Overall a very cool and likeable guy
I had Prof Decker for human anatomy and have really enjoyed the course. A must if you are going to med school. he seems to have the class geared in that direction. Kind and considerate to his students.
Pathology was an excellent experience. I am so glad I got to take anatomy and pathology with him. I hope it's not true, but there is a rumor he is leaving GT this year to teach at a med school out of state. He will be missed and I wish him well.
He is leaving tech to teach anatomy in medical school. I took him in 2018, during New Zealand/Australia/Fiji study abroad, and it was a great class. Thank you for everything, Dr. Decker!!
Dr. Decker is as humorous as he is kind, and he's as kind as he is smart. And he is very smart. As for his lectures, they're informative and clear. You'll know what the tests assess, and if he goes on about another topic, he'll make it clear whether you need to know about it. Also, enjoy the day 1 icebreaker. You'll feel right at home!
He's the best
Took him during summer semester and he made lectures interesting. 10/10 recommend
Easy class- light work and easy exams.
I love this man!
Hilarious and understands that most people are there because the class is required. He makes it easy to do well in his class and the lectures are actually interesting, even if you don't care about anatomy. Also provides really cool out-of-class experiences that you normally wouldn't get as a non-science major (like holding a human heart).
Decker is the best! This class was more focused towards anatomy and biology than I originally anticipated, but it was honestly pretty easy. I took it during the summer and all of our tests were online and there was no final. He's very passionate about the subject and a great person, and the class is an easy A.
I took Dr. Decker for human pathology. Hands down the most useful pre-med course at GT. Loved every minute of it.
I was going through a very difficult time last semester, and Dr. Decker was the only professor that took the time to listen and encourage me. I will forever be grateful. Just a great human being!
It's helpful to come to class as you may not always find everything you need on slides, but he keeps lectures very engaging and interesting. You can tell he really cares, and he's happy to help students with anything even outside of course material. You certainly need to keep up with material but the course load isn't too difficult.
I took this class over the summer and he managed to make lectures for entertaining and easy to understand. All exams where taken over canvas at home. Great guy.
Dr. Decker is a great choice for anatomy. He's so knowledgable and passionate, and never fails to make lecture engaging. It is helpful to come to class since some of the information is sometimes not listed on the slides and the slides can sometimes be disorganized. That being said though, I would definitely recommend him to anyone!
I was recently accepted at the Emory School of Medicine. Dr. Decker, and his Human Pathology course, gave me the confidence to apply to such a great medical school. His knowledge as a human anatomist is unsurpassed. I will never forget what this man has done for me and my classmates pursuing medicine as a career. All CT is derived from mesenchyme!
Dr. Decker is one of the greatest professors there is. His lectures are always incredible and never fail to make you laugh, and he teacesh anatomy in a way that makes it easy for anyone to learn and I couldn't imagine taking it with anyone else. If you have the opportunity to take his class, you have to do it, it's an experience you shouldn't miss.
I am in medical school and took Dr. Decker's Human Pathology course in 2021. Out of all the classes I took at GT, this class was the most applicable to what I am learning in medical school. My current pathology professor has been very impressed with my knowledge. Thank you, Dr. Decker! You are a GT treasure.
Great professor and a funny lecturer, he can go off track and fall behind in lectures sometimes by telling stories, but his stories are great and they are worth it. He occasionally brings in organs/bones in class for students to inspect. All quizzes are online, and our final was online. There are 7 quizzes 4 case studies and then the final.
Amazing professor. Attendance isn't mandatory and all assignments are taken/turned in online, but it is absolutely worth it to go to class. His lectures are entertaining and he made me so excited to learn about the topics covered in this class. The material is easy to follow along with if you pay attention.
I am a second year medical student at Vanderbilt, and it was Dr. Decker's human pathology course that helped me choose cardiothoracic surgery as my future specialty. The man is a gift and an inspiration to all who take his courses. Easily the most practical course in the GT pre-health undergraduate curriculum.
I wasn't a fan of Dr. Decker for anatomy, but he loves the pathology course and it really shows in his teaching. Classes were entertaining, engaging, and informational! Exams were tough and a lot of memorization but definitely doable!
Dr Decker is the most amazing professor I have ever had at Georgia Tech. He inspires you to learn and is so motivating and caring. If you go to lectures and take notes he tells you exactly what you need to know to succeed in this class. I plan on taking every class at Tech he offers just because of how amazing of a professor he was.
As the course just ended, I can give my honest assessment. Human Pathology with Dr. Decker was a phenomenal experience. My best friend is in his 2nd year of med school, and I showed him my course notes. He said they cover the same material. I was never prouder of Georgia Tech to hear that. This course will prepare you for sure. I love this man!
very nice, funny teacher. you must take the class honestly throughout its duration or you will not do well on its now in-person final exam.
Dr. Decker is very knowledgeable about anatomy and highly respected in the field. He is an awesome lecturer, and I looked forward to going to class each week. Attendance is not mandatory, but you must attend lecture to understand content because lecture slides do not provide all relevant content. Quizzes were all online. Great professor!
Such an inspiring professor for anyone planning on going into the healthcare field. This was one of the few lectures I really looked forward to attending each week. Quizzes are online and a little difficult, but the final was in person and was pretty basic. He is funny and his lectures are super interesting. AMAZING PROFESSOR!!
Dr. Decker is phenomenal! I have never met a professor who cares more about his students. Attendance isn't mandatory but I would highly recommend still going to classes as the quizzes do have material not on his slides. There is now an in-person final, but if you keep up with the material throughout the semester, it's very doable. Highly recommend!
Dr. Decker is a wonderful lecturer and amazing resource for pre-med students! His knowledge of medical schools (which he talks about during lectures) is insightful into the application process. He also knows how to make class both fun and engaging. The course is hard, but very doable given proper studying!
Was a great lecturer and pretty funny although conversations can get sidetracked sometimes. Was very nice on the final by making it pretty easy (compared to the quizzes). Very clearly passionate about what he teaches and it makes the class very enjoyable.
I had Dr.Decker for the Ignite short summer semester and he was AMAZING. Even though there was more emphasis on tests because of the short term, tests were easy and had questions based on lectures and study guides. He is also a very caring professor who radiates good energy. Plus he gives plenty of extra credit.
Dr D. Was a very caring professor and mentor, the class was valuable.
I loved Dr. Decker. He truly wants everyone to do well in his class and gives you plenty of opportunities to succeed. Beware however, I took this class Late Summer 2024 and it moved incredibly quickly. Exams were in person and tough. Make sure you prepare!
Dr. Decker's human anatomy is a tough class, but very important if you plan on going to med school. I took the course last year and plan to take his human pathology course this spring. I highly recommend his classes. He genuinely cares for his students and is very approachable.
Dr. Decker provides amazing lectures to the students because he tells real, applicable stories during class. The course consists of a midterm (in-person), 5 quizzes (online), 3-4 case studies, and a final exam (in-person). You should attend class because he highlights and narrows down important information that will be on the assessments.
Favorite class yet! It was not too hard. Just study the lecture slides. It was very interesting if you are pre med. He does interesting in class demos with volunteers. He is so nice and helpful if you have questions. I had to reschedule an exam once and he made it very easy.
Anatomy has been difficult but I'm doing well. I wouldn't get behind in the course. One of my GT favorites I've taken
Amazing lecturer and tests are pretty straightforward. The resources provided outside of lectures are very lacking so make sure to attend lectures (no notes available outside of class and difficult to self study).
Dr. Decker is a great anatomy professor. He makes it engaging and interesting, which is hard to do. Weaving together personal stories, history, and facts, he makes lectures worth attending even at 8AM. Tests have a lot of content and are closed note, however, they are designed fairly. Great prep for pre-health people; I cannot recommend him more.
One of the most respected professors on campus. You get out what you put into the course. It's a tough class, but taking Dr. Decker created a wonderful learning environment; even for 8 in the morning. Take any class he offers.
Best anatomy and biology professor!!!!
I'm taking human pathology with Dr. Decker. The content is med school based, and I feel very prepared to take pathology when I get to Johns Hopkins this fall. Amazing professor!
Lectures aren't mandatory but contain the important information so attendance is heavily encouraged. He is very knowledgeable on the subject and genuinely wants to help students learn, an A is definitely achievable with regular attendance since his lectures are digestible and he tells you everything you need to know for exams
Dr. Decker was my favorite professor at Tech. He was very involved in his students' improvement and I highly recommend him for any class. The class requires memorization but after taking anatomy with him it was much easier. Physiology is a plus to have before or during this class.
He has an insane amount of respect for his students and offered really cool extra credit opportunities. The lectures are kind of boring but prepare you well for the tests.
WE LOVE DR. DECKER! Genuinely the best prof I've had at GT. Lectures are engaging, go to them! Even if you can pass the class without attending, the things he says in person will stick with you for the rest of your medical career. Exams are a bit tough, make sure you deeply understand the content and are not just memorizing. Flashcards are a must!
Human Pathology was hands down the most useful class I've taken at GT in my four years. I working a summer job in a hospital in my hometown and I'm able to shadow a cardiologist. The cardiologist said, “where the hell did you learn all of this?” I simply said, “Dr. Decker at Georgia Tech.
Amazing lecturer, easy tests based off his slides, and overall great guy. He's also more biology-focused than the other 1040 professors if you're into that
Hands down my favorite course at GT. I appreciated the course was very challenging and I was up for it. Dr. Decker takes difficult concepts and breaks them down in a unique way so we understand. We just finished drawing the brachial plexus and although challenging it was fun to draw along with him on the whiteboard. I can't wait for Human Pathology
I was really struggling with anatomy and school/life in general. He was the only professor that took the time with me outside of class to help me. I will forever be grateful for this man. I wish more professors on campus cared half as much as Dr. Decker did.
