never had this professor, if you have, rate him/her so i will know something!
He is a really good teacher. Everything you need to know is on his powerpoint presentations. No attendance policy, you actually get extra credit throughout the semester just for coming to class. Tests follow his powerpoints exactly.
a champion among men, very nice, very helpful. willing to help you with troubles. easy tests, however studying required. overall an awesome guy, funny, etc. take his class.
really funny, nice guy, no attendance policy, but you do have to study for the tests but they follow his notes exaclty
Dr. Doughty is such a sweet guy! He's funny and SO helpful. His tests are pretty tough, but if you ask him for help, he will do anything he can to help out. No attendance policy...but you get extra credit for coming to class. A lot of studying required to do well on tests, but overall i would defintiely recommend!
Nice and funny, gives tough quizzes every couple chapters with a lot of information. Fun class but not easy. Throws out candy for participating and attendance isnt required but you get extra credit randomly for showing up.
Very hard quizzes!!!! Read the book, and do the online quizzes, those help a lot! If you have any questions he will help above and beyond.
Such a sweet heart, he really cares about his students and wants us to learn. Too bad it was 8 in the morning so we weren't THAT engaged. Tests are straight forward, but some questions can be a little tricky. Just study the notes, and the parts of the text that he tells you to and you'll be fine. Great professor, highly recommend!
Great teacher
He is a great professor and really cares about his students. He obviously really enjoys his profession and wants everyone to do well. He also give exam grades on web ct just hours after each test. Not too bad of you study hard and know your stuff.
Best teacher I have had at CofC! Is really interested in the study of psychology! Notes are all on slides so easy to follow! TAKE HIM!!!
very clar and helpful. Do your work and study the notes.
Attendence not mandatory but you would get extra credit for showing up plus it is not a boring class. Doughty def. made me really interested in what we were learning. Best psych class I have ever taken and def. at the top of my list in all class history. Just remember to get your research points it can change your grade from an A to an A-.
This was my favorite class this semester. He's interesting, fun, and very understanding with any problems you might have. He has a cute little son that you're certain to see pictures of. I'm taking the lab I enjoyed his class so much.
LOVED HIM!! He is one of the best teachers at CofC! Always willing to help. Attendance not mandatory but get extra credit for it. About 5 small papers. 5 test. Cumlative final. Always willing to help with anything. Post everything on WebCT (except notes). Read book and pay attention. It will be an A with hard work!
Very nice guy, and ALWAYS willing to help. Attendance not mandatory but you get up to 15 pts EC throughout the semester for showing up. 5 Hard tests, multiple choice (goes up to letter L in choices)matching, true/false, essay, small papers, cumulative final. Reading is important! Be ready to work hard and learn a lot... this is not for slackers!
My favorite class this semester, also one of the best psych teachers out there. The class is involved, but if you go and take an interest, you'll do fine. Be prepared for lots of papers though, nothing too hard, just a few pages. I'd definitely take him again.
I had Dr. doughty for conditioning and Learning as well as the lab. He is a great professor. You will work hard but as conditioning goes, you will be rewarded for your hard work by getting an A in his class. He is very passionate about his topic and is more interested in what you learn than what you score on a test.
Dr. Doughty is one of the best teachers I have come across. He is very straight forward with all information. He uses power point for his lectures which come straight from the chapters in the book. If you read ahead and take good notes you will do fine. He is extremely helpful and cares about his students. Take his course!
Dr. Doughty is an extremely nice teacher. Its better to read the chapters before class so that you understand the lecture better but it is possible to do well without reading. If you have a problem turning in one of your papers on time, he is really understanding. If you get the chance, take Dr. Doughty!
Dr. Doughty is great! If you go to class and study hard for the tests than you will do well. Reading the chapters in important and will help on tests. The tests have a lot of true/false and short answers. He likes to see you understand intro to pysc. He has made me want to minor in pysc! He is awesome. Very helpful..inside and outside of class.
He will help you anytime. He will check over study guides you made and look over papers before you turn them in. Always go to class. Just do what he tells you to. Excellent professor. Honestly, the most effective i've ever had. Very motivating
Super-nice prof and passionate about Behavior Psych and pigeons, but don't take this class unless you're a PSYCH major, and RECENTLY had Intro. Covers a LOT of material very quickly, but you must write what he SAYS, not useless PPoint outline. Previous reviewer said he's flexible about late papers - he's not! Very helpful and nice, but by the book!
Tough class. Tests are ridiculous. Worked my butt off in this class. Average of all students for final grade a low C. Sometimes giving a final grade should be more than just adding up points, dude.
Great professor, as long as you study the notes and read the book, you're good. Go to class too, if you miss a lot, you're not going to make it.
Dr. Doughty is an excellent teacher. He can be picky sometimes on tests, which are very thorough and hard. If you go to class everyday you can earn extra credit. Take Him!
Your grade is made up of 7 quizzes, 4 papers, 4 tests (half-lecture, half-book), and 1 cumulative final exam. He gives extra credit sporadically if you attend class. All of his methods of assessment are essay-type questions. Attendance is not mandatory, but he takes it personal if you don't (grading-wise). OVERALL, he's an alright professor.
Attendance is not mandatory, but he will definitely take it personal if you don't come. I was making an A in his class until I had to miss a week. Suddenly, I started getting Ds and Fs on all of his subjectively-graded tests. GREAT TEACHER, but don't take him unless you can attend every class.
Very good teacher. Must take notes in order to pass. Gives extra credit for attendance. Tests are very difficult, but he will help you out as far as preparation and studying.
Really helpful and fair. The quizzes are hard after he takes away the study guide but after another quiz or two you should get the handle on it. He's chill and has interactive lessons. If you have him with a learning community, don't compare him to the other class. That's just stupid. Just fill out his study guide and tests will be easy.
Good class. He is very helpful if you need it. Read the book, it helps A LOT for the test. The tests are mainly short essay but there may be a few multiple choice questions every once in a while. Attendance is not mandatory, but you get random extra credit days, so ithelps to go. Overall the you will learn a lot, and the teacher is great.
doughty is the BEST! :) he really cares about his students. and he is an all around really good guy. he can be kind of awkward at first, but definitely get to know him and stop by his office every now and then.
i do not understaind these good ratings from other people. Doughty was the worst teacher i have ever had. It basically was a 9am in a dark room with power point slides which he dosnt put online. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. i worked really hard and still did terrible he is awful!
Doughty...He's a good guy and is very passionate about behavioral psychology. He can be a bit moody sometimes, but he will like you if you pay attention and be respectful. Not always the clearest and can ask vague questions. Tests are all essay format. He does grade pretty fairly overall.
He is incredibly difficult to follow. His power point presentations are disconnected and incomplete, and his explanations of them are equally as confusing. Tests are all essay and hard to predict. I took two 300 level psych classes before his and got A's in both. I'll be thrilled to get a B from him. I do not recommend his class.
He nice is class but his tests are all essay, and he expects you to know every single detail of every concept, the book barely helps, and hes an extremely hard grader, if you take him you must go to class or you're going to be lost, he also has an obsession with pigeons...kind of weird
If you go to class and take notes and do the study guides, you will make an A. This is an easy class. You just have to memorize the study guide. Also, I thought his lectures were interesting and he's super nice. If you have a question, he's more than willing to answer it.
One of the best professors I have had at CofC. His class is hard and a lot of work. A good part of the class did fail because they did not complete the study guides (which were like 20 pages of memorizing short answer questions) He is however very helpful and always around during his office hours. He takes attendance by giving extra credit.
he's VERY helpful and willing to answer any question you have. attendance is not mandatory, but 10 days out of the yr he will take roll and for those who are there will receive 2 pts extra credit. i had a 9 am and always looked forward to going to his class! study and youll get an A
This is a very challenging class, do not take it if you have a heavy load. His notes can be vague and he expects you to know information beyond the textbook, so you can't miss anything he is saying in class. Go to his office hours and don't get behind!
Not a hard class if you actually put in the effort. Doughty is super smart and really funny. Always willing to help. Put in some effort and you will be fine. Highly recommend for c and l
I strongly dislike this professor. The material is SO easy, but it seems to me like he is extra harsh on the grading and makes the tests confusing so that people will not do well, the class will seem hard, and he can feel important because he teaches a "difficult" class. It's irritating.
Pretty easy going guy. 4 tests and a final. Some grade boosters throughout the course. Attendance isn't mandatory but it will add 20 points extra credit. Read the book and do the study guide & you'll be fine.
Good teacher, he is passionate on the subject and knows his stuff. However, he is a very hard grader and wants very specific answers. He gives study guides for tests, but they are still very difficult. I liked him but I would never take him again.
Knowledgeable teacher and gives you study guides for the tests but he makes material way more difficult than it needs to be. He is way too particular on grading and will deduct way too many points. I walked out the exam thinking I got an A because I knew every answer and actually got a C. I would not recommend him.
I LOVED Doughty. He is very helpful and will go out of his way to do so. The material is hard and he tends to make it seem a bit harder, but if you take good notes, do the study guides, and read the book, you will do fine. Tests are mainly essay style. He's laid back and really nice. Go to office hours if you need help! He's great! Def take!
He's the best professor for the internship course. Class meets every other week. Weekly summaries but a big paper due at the end. He's rather relaxed about this course compared to others. If you're thinking about the internship course, take it with him!!!
Dr. Doughty is the best professor that I have had at Cofc, and this class has definitely been very interesting. Dr. Doughty cares a lot about his students and knows everyones names by heart. He even emails you after you receive a good test score. A few things I recommend: complete the study guide, don't miss class, go to his office hours, go to SI.
Pretty difficult class. 4 Tests, Research Paper, Presentation, Book to read, Self-management project, and more. Good professor--makes you work hard! It's a long of work so make sure you are interested in ABA. So much to learn about ABA.
Very nerdy, lost weight, lost hair but didn't lose enthusiasm for psychology! Loves his pigeons. Super great for career advice. His wife works with children. You'll hate this class but love how much you learn.
Really great and passionate teacher (loves his pigeons), but can be a pretty tough class. As long as you take good notes and show up to class everyday (or get missed motes from a friend) you probably won't need the book at all. The final is long and cumulative, but the class builds on itself so not too bad.
This guy is hella hard but he makes it worth it. He is a great professor with great teaching skills. He is more than willing to help. I failed my first exam and he emailed me to see what he could do to help. He is hard but great at what he does.
Gives you study guides, but the study guides are nothing like whats actually on the test. 5 tests and 4 papers you have to write, he's very arrogant and kind of all about himself. Would not recommend.
Dr. Doughty is such a great guy. Class is a little tough but if you go to class, go to SI, and do your study guides, youll be fine. He is of great help to discuss your test and work outside of class also.
Dr. Doughty is great. A little quirky, but you'll get used to him. He really cares and wants people to do well. If you don't come to class it's going to be hard for you because the material is harder than other psych classes. If he likes your section though he's pretty funny. Overall really enjoyed his class. Tons of extra credit as well!
Reading the textbook is necessary to pass this class. The tests are pretty difficult and there are six of them & a final. If you just want an easy class for credit, this isn't it. It actually made me change my major. There are plenty of opportunities for extra credit though.
Dr. Doughty is a fun guy. His lectures are fun, but he can go off-topic sometimes. Make sure to read the textbook because a lot of his test questions come from that. If you follow the study guides, then you should be fine. There's a couple papers, but they aren't bad. If you put some effort in, you'll do fine.
Dr. Doughty is monotoned and very hard to listen to. I dropped this class mid-semester because we had a test every week, and we did not cover all of the material in class that was on the exam. He told us "go read the textbook." He is a very tough grader.
Dr Doughty's class was actually pretty entertaining, and it was very interesting. I only took psychology originally as a way to do gen-ed req and a pre-req for a possible major class, but I really liked it and will be taking more psych classes. 10/10 highly recommend Dr. Doughty's class for psych103.
Dr. Doughty is obviously very passionate about C&L, but this means that he flies through the material and expects you to pick it up quickly. Lots of tests and there are quizzes on a novel you are to read. But there are study guides for tests, and your lowest quiz grade and lowest test grade are dropped. Tough class, but it feels good to do good
Professor Doughty is a great professor. He makes you work for your grade, and simply reading the material won't be enough. He does create a study guide for each exam, although I had to create flashcards to memorize them. He makes you work for your grade, although he makes class very interesting.
Good professor, can get a little sidetracked during lectures, but the important takeaway is that you need to read and do the study guides in order to do well on his exams. His exams are based on how well you know the concept and if you can apply it to whatever situation is asked. If you have questions during class, be ready to try and explain it.
This is the first time I have ever had a class with FIVE exams and then a final exam, so SIX total. Final exam was a four pg research paper but would prefer a regular test. He is funny and silly but goes over the material too fast. Make sure to ask tons of questions and study groups. I did not do SI since my SI was not the best. I learned a lot! (:
Although professor doughty is very kind and makes class interesting, this was genuinely the hardest class I have taken in college. There is a test about every 2 weeks which is heavily focused on the textbook, so if you don't read it you'll fail. Study guides provided but I often found that they had barely anything to do with what was on the test.
Lectures are pointless. Never gave an actual exam date, but literally would not let me take a test early even though I had class registration that day which takes 3 hours. I go to every single class, I'm a good student, and this is the only class I've struggled with. The concepts aren't hard at all he just doesn't teach. There is too much reading.
Genuinely the hardest "intro" class i have taken. You are only graded on 4 tests which he states are on the lectures but are completely different than what is taught in class. He is a nice guy but often rambles during lecture so what you need to know for tests is lost. Gives study guides but they are NOTHING like the test. I had to withdraw.
I have no words, this intro class is impossible to take. Although he gives an extra credit points for showing up to class, that does nothing for you in the end. I believe it's impossible to get an A in this class unless you are entirely dedicated to the major psychology. Good luck if you end up taking the class!
I loved Doughty's intro to psych class! Yes there is lots of textbook reading and tests. However, he gives you all the tools you need to succeed in his class. Go to the lectures and DO THE STUDY GUIDE!!! His tests are based on them. While there is a lot of work, it is not hard to pass his class as long as you try. Id take one of his classes again!
I took Dr. Doughty's intro class during Fall 2023 and he is by far my favorite professor. He is a tough grader but if you're a psych major it really sets you up for success in the future. The study guides helped immensely for the exams, make sure to do them and take notes during his lectures.
hes a very nice professor, the exams were very application heavy, do the study guides, 6 exams plus final.
This class sucked. 7 tests including the final, daily quizzes for the first month on a 200 page book, 2 easy writing assignments that are graded very particularly. Hard work is not rewarded in this class; you either do well or you don't. Go to every class, go to SI, go to O.H., read the textbook, do the study guides. Do not recommend.
The material was somewhat interesting, but the application of it was near impossible. I spent 5-8 hours on average outside of class studying for exams, and only received an A on 1/7 of them. His grading is SO beyond particular. Even with weekly S.I and O.H. I could not get an A. Attendance is taken for credit down to the second class starts.
Dr. Doughty will call you out and then continue to make a big deal about it throughout the rest of the lecture, SO MANY TESTS and they are worded so weird. He is very particular about grading making it nearly impossible to do well in the class.
Exams every 2 weeks, very little information on powerpoint slides, does not repeat or write things down that will be on the exams, most work I've ever had to do for a 3 credit class. Don't reccommend
He goes way too fast and expects you to know everything. Don't take him pls save yourself
Doughty's presentations are extremely wordy and filled with abbreviations that he expects you to know and remember. The only grades you receive are quizzes and some exams. Exams are also wordy and extremely specific, and they are pretty much all formatted the same. It is definitely a lot of information that is not easily digestible.
Your grade in the class only comes from tests and quizzes, which are extremely hard. He goes through the content very fast, and when asked a question, he talks down to you and does not try to explain the information in a different way.
Try and take this class with another prof if you can. Has a way of making simple concepts more complicated than they need to be, and will sometimes get upset with students for not understanding. I don't mind a tough class, but it seems I spent more time learning about the profs style of testing than I did actual psychology.
You get extra credit for the classes you attend, but other than that this course was horrible. He goes super fast and does a terrible job explaining when asked a question. the exam questions are extremely confusing and he will take off many points for even a wrong word used. try to take this class with a different professor
please do not take this course. 7 exams and a few quizzes which barely even help your grade. exams are confusing and he is a tough grader. i have never studied for a class more in my life, i cannot stress enough all the reasons you should avoid this class.
This is the hardest class I've ever taken and I was a pre med chemistry major for a year. I sit in his lectures and I cannot understand ANYTHING he is saying. The only reason I'm getting a decent grade is because of the SI sessions. GO TO THESE. He makes you feel bad when you ask a question and sometimes will refuse to answer.
please take this class with anyone else possible. harder than any stem class I have ever taken, and only bc this prof wants it that way. 6 exams + 5 quizzes! lectures are impossible to understand but are all he tests on. reading or reviewing slides b4 tests will not help. studied for over 24 hours total before an exam once and still got a D.
Please save urself and DON'T take this class. Tests are nothing like what he teaches in class. The tests are too long for a 50 min. class and the wording is so extremely confusing. Go to office hours and SI sessions to ask questions. Be prepared to cry, and even if you think you did good on an exam, you're probs wrong so prepare urself
