nice guy, but hes really confusing. He tries to tell you whats on the test, but hes not very clear about it.
Awesome prof!!! Very helpful, and gives you a clear idea of the exam ("hints" at all the qestions). his lectures match up really well with the text. all u have to do is review and u will do well on his exmas. and he is very enthusiastic about teaching and it shows! take his class!
his class is tough!
he is a wicked proff
Gives a lot of hints in class though he doesn't take attendance. If you study your text a lot plus online slides he gives you will be fine without going to class
Great teacher, a little boring at times but overall easy to understand and loves what hes doing. You have to do a lot on your own though. Attendence is not mandatory.
Awesome! Will try to get him for future classes!
Good prof, hard exams.
A great teacher! You can tell that he loves what he does. He using so many examples from his experiences in the field. It is so interesting. Although, he does have difficult exams.
The best professor i ever had. Great speaker, gives great examples for each topic that he talks about and explains them really well, interacts with students well and is very friendly, shows funny videos or pics to make everyone laugh and wake up during the mornings, gives stories about his past experiences in hospital jobs and current life.
Great teacher, but very hard exams; He gives examples and all which is great, but reading the textbook on your own time is mandatory to ace the exams.
Dr Howorko is a great professor. His exam are extremely difficult though. Go see him during office hours for help with exams! Attending class will help you achieve good grades.
Probably one of the best proffs I've had. His personal examples help you understand. you MUST go to class, its not boring. He's really good at explaining and teaching. His wit and intelligence really makes you want to pay attention. Study!
Exams are really hard, expected to get around a 90 on an exam i thought i did amazing on but got a 67, marks short answers really hard. Not recommended
Hes great to be in class with, but his tests are so hard.. Im just not sure what he wasnts I go to every class and Im still failing :-( Most of the work you have to do yourself with the textbook he gives no homework no papers so everything is in class and on your own text book learning. please dont fail me.
Howorko is an excellent prof. His tests are hard but the study requirements are clear. I remember a lot form psyc 104 and 105. Also he doesn't mark the tests other people do, and they're fair.
His class is super difficult.... i JUST passed and im a A student. Your mark is 100% exams and they are all SUPER DIFFICULT. Avoid unless ABSOLUTELY necessary.
Had him for both 104 and 105 . Studying the textbook inside out is mandatory to do well in is class ; notes are directly from the textbook. Tests are really hard if you don't know stupid specific details from the textbook . Lots of trick questions
Not an effective teacher at all. He reads off his power points, which are re-worded from the textbook. You are better off just reading from the textbook because you hardly pull anything out from the lectures. You must read the text book because the exams are difficult, if you dont. I would not recommended taking a course from Howorko.
I studied a LOT for exams. It was a must for this class. I went in to my first(of three) midterms, and only ended up with a 67% because I only studied off of the notes. After that I read the textbook chapters, and used mypsychlab. Helped a lot more than his notes. Just study and the exam will be easy.
He's a tremendous teacher. I was just trying to fill up some time-slots between classes but ended up with 4 psych courses because of the interest he could develop on the subject. Good personal details and very clear and in depth, but study! Tests can be murderous if you come from a different concentration.
He was ineffective. He does his lectures directly from the textbook. You could pass this class without ever going to his lectures and by just reading the textbook. Not to mention, his slides are useless, they are powerpoints provided from the textbook companies.
He does his lectures directly from the textbook. You could pass this class without ever going to his lectures and by just reading the textbook. Not to mention, his slides are useless, they are powerpoints provided from the textbook companies.
Great teacher! has wonderful examples and interesting stories. his exams easy if you study. he is a fair prof who really loves what he does
Lectures and content are interesting. VERY HARD MARKER. Over two thirds of my class failed. I saw many people who had written a full page for a question out of ten and received zero marks. I find it hard to believe that they had nothing of value to say in an entire page of writing. To be successful study notes and textbook and attend class.
Howorko is a terrible prof. He reads straight from the textbook and teaches extremely subjectively. He makes up stories and tells the stories from the textbook like they were his patients. He will not debate with students or try to speak about both sides of an argument. He will only speak about his opinions. I would not suggest him as a prof.
Adam Howorko is an amazing prof. Your mark is based 100% on exams. He tells you in advance exactly what to study. His exams are hard, no doubt - but he tells you EXACTLY what's going to be on the exams during lectures. Lectures are very textbook based. Not showing up seems easy enough, but don't grumble when you don't know what to study.
I loved this class, he made it extremely interesting. Class is not at all mandatory, but your attendance is marked at random and worth a small portion of your grade. Reading the textbook will get you a great mark (in the a range). I found him a little intimidating and did not want to ask questions. Overall, good prof. The course content is awesome.
Overall he's an outstanding professor, and I would definitely take another course from him. He helped make the transition from high school to university for me a lot easier. The tests are quite difficult, however, if you do the practice questions he posts on moodle you'll be guaranteed to get an A.
He was probably the rudest, and most condescending teacher I've ever had. He thinks he has more power than he really does.
He's a wonderful prof and I would definitely recommend him. He's the best one for the beginning psych courses especially!
First class he told us all classroom rules, if you don't follow them he does not hesitate to ask you to leave. Made lectures so fun and interesting, I loved going to that class. He gave lots of great examples, he definitely cares about his teaching! Read the textbook on your own, without it you will have a tough time with his tests.
Thinks he is more powerful than he is - threatened to have anyone with a visible phone removed from Concordia. 3 midterms and a final w/ last 2 chapters in it. NOTHING ELSE. Modelled after final exams & NOT easy despite studying; they are filled with questions he talks about in class. Does not give chance to improve grade. Unaproachable despite :)
Dr. Howorko is a very knowledgeable prof. His tests aren't too hard if you study and he posts practice short answer questions online that he will use for the exam. The only problem I had was that he would give different versions of the test with different SA questions ... and some versions seem to have easier questions.
I found his lectures interesting although his exams killed me. In class, he kept me focused in the concepts he was teaching by using videos, examples, and personal stories. I do appreciate his teaching HOWEVER his exams are extremely difficult. None of my study methods seemed to work and I did poorly on all of my exams (which is your entire grade)
I had Dr Howorko for 104 and 105, and did enjoy him as a prof. His lectures are interesting but the tests are extremely difficult, even when you study. She posts 500-question "practice tests" that he takes the questions from, so you can do some prep apart from reading.
Tests are brutal and he is arrogant. He is also hardly accessible as he teaches at other universities. Don't take him if you don't have to. He doesn't seem to realize that he teaches an intro class.
Tough grader, attendance is marked sporadically and counts for marks, read the book as he covers the main big things in general. Do the practice questions in the book and MyPsychLab. Do the ones he posts too. Pay attention.
He will stop and have a conversation with you if you catch him in the halls or on campus. Really descent guy. I loved him as a professor.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH HIM. His powerpoint are so long and not clear. several times you have to consult the textbook for more clarity. Very OCD in terms of cellphone use, and he'll snitch to the dean if he has to. His final is Cumulative and he marks super tough:(( if you're willing to put a lot more work than u have to though i guess he is ok
Dont do it !!! his finals are cumulative and will not tell u what to expect at all. Ive never seen such a tough marker ever, There was 9 different versions on the final. He is determined to preclude prosperity for his students. power points are LONGGGG and not clear. Very arrogant please avoid him if you can
He is an excellent lecture, but because he only has tests to grade a student on their is no way to now whether or not you fully understand the content before it makes a large difference in your grades. Overall, his classes are interactive, and he will answer questions but he will make you have a name plate and if he sees your phone your in trouble.
Dr. Howorko is definitely one of my favourite profs. Despite some people finding him arrogant, I think he is a genuine person and will take more classes from him. The only issue I've ever had in his class is mandatory attendance. He takes attendance randomly and of course, it would be on the few days I would miss. Other than that he is awesome!
He makes you have name plates on your desk and if you're caught with a cellphone or on your laptop other than taking notes he will report you. You are only marked on 3 midterms and a final. I did not learn anything in the classroom so I stopped going and did it on my own using the textbook. Attendance is part of your grade but no sheet went around.
He gives you test bank questions so its easy to do well in his classes, overall would take again and can't wait for PSY105 with him
He seems to forget that you are a first year student... and he makes it so you can't review your exams. So you never know what you have to work on. But he truly is a sweet guy. He gave me an attendance make of 50% even though i showed up to class everyday. I had to go talk to him about it and he was willing to raise the mark up.
Makes lectures fun and interesting, is pretty precise on the learning material. Really smart guy, easy to access outside of class when he is in his office during office hours. Tests are pretty tough but the practise questions help immensely. Just do the questions and study. Overall great Prof, would recommend.
Has "spotters" in his class who are other students who decide your participation mark. Tests are all questions from test bank, memorize these you'll pass. Not actually about understanding psych it's about memorizing test bank questions as it's basically impossible to pass otherwise
Hes a great prof, mostly cause he actually tries to get you to understand the material, makes the course fun with jokes but can brag a lot about his many careers, amazing for his practice questions! Although theyre around 200 each but if you do them, youre almost guaranteed an A! Made me want to switch my minor to psychology!
He is by far my favourite prof at our school. If you don't show up to class though it makes it harder to pass. Overall though he is easily accessible and so much fun. Easy GPA booster if you pay attention.
Taking his classes (PSY104/105) during spring terms, he keeps the classes interesting with stories or experiences of his own. His lectures are very informative and the stories/examples help me understand concepts much easier. From past spring classes I have taken, I could not stay awake for 3 hours. I would totally recommend him!!
I really enjoyed his lectures but the tests were super heavy. when studying, you think you know what your doing but then you do poorly on tests, which sucks. But he is a super interesting guy and he keeps his lectures interesting by telling personal stories which i enjoyed. You also CANNOT go on your phone at all or hell threaten to remove you...
I will avoid classes that has his name on it. I'm a really good student with other classes but for some reason, passing this class is sooooo hard. The amount of synonyms he uses from his slides to his tests are ridiculous. The cellphone thing is true.
Howorko is extremely controlling over his class which can be understandable; however, his spotters he rewards to snake out other students who are on their phones or not writing notes during lectures are just over the top. After all, we are all paying for the course and as long as we arent actively distracting, that is no other students business
Howorko is on an absolute power trip. He is incapable of having a conversation in which both parties (him and the student) are respected. He threatens expulsion very loosely and makes accusations against you which are very hard to prove. But, given his arrogance, it is impossible to stand up for yourself without unfair repercussions
Dr. Howorko isn't terrible but he uses language in his exams that he doesn't use in class. His midterms are a bit harder but he provides a test bank that you can work off of.
Every intelligent. READ THE TEXT BOOK!!! He makes the classes very interesting and has great examples. His exams are pretty intense so read the textbook.
Letures are extremely boring. Fails you for attendence marks if you dont have your name plate out everyday. does not communicate with the studens whats so ever. His notes are so irrelevent u must read the textbook.
Generally has good lectures, but doesn't use same terms on exams. Super smart guy! Shouldn't be teaching lower level classes, expects more than what he is giving. Impossible to email, emailed him a week before a paper was due for a few days extension over an emergency, he did not reply until day before it was due saying no. Hard to talk to
His exams have tough language but if you read the textbook and review testbanks you should be ok. I absolutely loved him as a prof. He's incredibly caring and is available to talk to outside of class. He talks about himself a lot but I found it pretty interesting. his classes are HARD so you really have to put in the effort.
Howorkois a good prof. Genuinely loves what he does. But his emams are so bad!! super super difficult. read the textbook inside out and you will Get a solid b
Dr. Howorko is that kind of professor that tells you not to bother with the textbook on multiple days just to tell you that the textbook was mandatory 2 weeks before the final. The classes are interesting, but have no practical application to the test material. There is a textbook test bank which all the tests are based on. AVOID HIM AT ALL COSTS
Great professor, tells a lot of interesting stories that works well with the material. The exams are a little tough and it's a lot to know but he tries to make it interesting and is very helpful if you have questions.
Smart guy. You can study the textbook thoroughly and maybe get a b.
Howorko really knows his stuff and it shows in every class. He truly wants the best for his students, one of the best teachers to visit in office hours. His tests are hard but not insanely difficult but studying the textbook is crucial. If you want to actually learn Psychology or majoring in it and want to retain it, recommend this Professor.
The hardest class I have taken. His slides are USELESS. Take notes from the TEXTBOOK and study the TEXTBOOK or you will fail. His lectures have tons of information. His tests are hard as frig, but if u study the textbook you'll do ok. He's funny and super smart. His classes are enjoyable, just don't fall behind. He's also very opinionated.
The textbook is SO IMPORTANT in his course. Most of the questions he asks on midterms and quizzes come from the textbook, his slides are only the basic info. You MUST read it if you want to pass. Also he takes attendance randomly and docs participation marks if you dont have your name plate out so always remember to put it in front of you
The midterms/final were extremely difficult. He constantly reminded us that he had a clinic and CONSTANTLY bragged about his son and always felt the need to bring up the fact that he teachs at uofa too. Do not recommend taking. Switching majors because of him. I lost my passion for psychology after meeting him
This prof almost made me want to drop out a few times ngl, his exams and tests are very discouraging. I barely passed even after reading the textbook word for word and doing testbanks, he always talks about information in higher level classes, should not be teaching an intro psych class, he expects too much. Will not be taking his classes again.
Honestly, a really solid guy/prof. I struggled a ton in his PSY104 class, but LOVE him for PSY105. Study the TEXTBOOK word for word. If you just use his slides you will fail. Take your notes ahead of time FROM THE TEXTBOOK. He uses tons of real-life stories and examples. He is caring and if you talk to him one on one, he will really invest in you.
do not take him for PSY 104 . he has the hardest tests ever. and the number of questions in the tests are very hard to finish with in the time frame. because of the online transition becaause of corono, he literally increased the number of questions in the final and decreased the time . 160 questions and 1.5 hrs to finish. that ia almost impossible
Since switching to online for Covid, he has been impossible to connect with. I know its a big adjustment, but he has told us how he's been teaching online at other institutions for years, so it definitely isn't new for him. Our final exam is 160 questions in 90 mins. Extremely unfair. Wont answer any emails. I really liked him until all this.
He's honestly not that bad. He's not my favorite but I find if you put effort into being on top of the readings, should will do well. I just don't understand why he went to the extreme when online classes started. Changing the quiz from 5 min to 3 min was very frustrating because i find I was rushing so hard through the questions.
100% recommend. I enjoyed his lectures both on campus and online. His exams are textbook heavy! So study the textbook. His slides are very useful, use them as a template for the textbook notes, they go hand in hand- people think its lazy of him but the students are probably to lazy to read the textbook... He is extremely nice, very understanding
The material itself isn't too difficult but the way he teaches and approaches things isn't that great. He made things uneccesarily difficult when online classes started.
Avoid his class at ALL costs!! I forgot my ID card in my car before a midterm and made go get it my car was parked near the expo centre. Even though I had my license and knew my ID number he made me go right before the test. Came back to class made me wait for a bit before giving it to me. Had 20ish minute to write a 55 question long test.
I've taken PSY104,105,275,367 with him and found the lectures enjoyable. Attendance is mandatory as well as textbook reading and the exams are multiple choice. He expects you to know your material like any other prof and is also very friendly. Some students also finish 50 MC question midterms in 20min, the long online exams were to prevent cheating
Took PSY104 as a final-year elective this spring due to the limited selections of courses in spring/summer semesters. Professor came off as very smart, and was very available and approachable. Study the slides and do all of the content on Mindtap and you will do extremely well. I really cant stress how good the mindtap online companion was enough.
You guys in Psych 104, 105, 275 and other classes that are just multiple choice axams- the trick is to read the textbook. All his exams are multiple choice. Find the testbanks. I literally just memorized the testbanks and aced every quiz and exam. The lectures can get boring but he is a great prof.
No chance for grade outside of tests. No papers, no projects. He is difficult to talk to. Is rude and sexist. Acts as though our tuitions don't help to pay his salary. He is stuck up and not approachable. I would recommend taking this course from someone else. His notes are useless. You can learn more from the textbook than you can from him.
He is a nice guy and is very helpful if you have questions, but his exams are terrible. Textbook 100% His exams are 60 questions, 60 minutes. Good luck if you take his class, you won't do good with time anxiety. For an entry class, there's such high expectations. 1 minute per question and it's in-depth analysis questions. More time and he's fine.
Unless you have the test bank, good luck. Also, he's an unreasonably tough grader for group projects, he docks marks for stupid things. Unless you have a really good attention span and like to read a lot, it's hard to get a grade easily.
Midterm: 55 questions, 50 minutes. Quizzes: 7 questions, 5 minutes. He will tell you that the rushed quizzes get easier as you do them, dont fall for this. They dont. No opportunity for grades outside of quizzes and tests. He's nice... sometimes funny... other than that? no bueno.
I have taken every class Howorko teaches and have always thoroughly enjoyed his classes. He is knowledgable and brings in personal experience from his work outside of teaching to help students understand. his exams are textbook based and as long as you read and study the textbook you will do fine. He is really understanding and nice!
His exams are really really hard. There is a 7 question test after every chapter that you get 5 minutes to do. Two 55 multiple-choice midterms and one 120 question final. He is a very nice man and I enjoyed his teaching but his work load and expectations are too high for an intro psy class.
This professor has so many personal stories that directly relate to course material providing students with a deeper understanding. Chapter quizzes kept me on top of school work and made studying for finals easier. Very knowledgable professor with an amazing attitude. Make sure to study the text book if you want to do well on his tests.
very smart gentleman, but creates impossible exams/quizzes.
Really knowledgable professor. He cares about the students and provides great examples of material. His tests are hard and text book based. If you want a good grade studying the textbook along with his lectures is very necessary.
Very professional, everything has a guideline. Attendance very favorable and checked often. Frequent quizzes and hefty exams. Very textbook reliant. Sometimes goes on irrelevant tangents that more than once resulted in rushing the end of a unit making students teach themselves. Mostly, I don't like how he talks to students, I do not feel respected.
He was an amazing prof, but intimidating for a first year. His expectations are clear and gives lots of resources but his tests are hard if you don't study a lot. With that being said, he knows his stuff so well it can be hard to follow but if you know what to expect it's not terrible. I recommend taking for 200+ level.
Very smart man, but should not be teaching an introductory psych course. He made it VERY hard to succeed, would recommend taking this class with someone else. I found him rude and did not teach in ways we (1st years) could understand AT ALL. Expected us to already understand and know all the material. He said some things that could be reported.
Dr. Howorko challenges everything, including conversations. He rants about his "MD" days, which are way off-topic. I would avoid this prof, he is not understanding or accommodating.
