Although his class seems easy at first, his lectures are hard to follow, there is no book, and no power points to read from> you take notes on what he says only. he gives you study guides before each test, but there is too much covered to study from. be ready for a stressful quarter
i dont like history, i wish there was some powerpoints i can write down, i am a visual learner, not an auditory, if i cant see notes, then i cant learn, no textbook, no notes, just reads from a piece of paper, readings are long, i wish we got our tests back so we can learn what we got wrong, ughhh, dont take this class
Very cool professor and is very clear on his lectures. He do have PowerPoint for you to follow and his exams are fairly easy. I have never read the book and only listen to his lecture and passed exams with an average B. Would highly recommended others to take him =]
This class was fun and easy. Again people below do not know anything. He uses powerpoints, id take attention to what he says to as he goes into more detail than the PP suggests.Never used the book. Easy class fun professor to take
Great professor, you don't need the text at all, even though its cheap, all you need to do is go to class every day and take all the notes. You really learn a lot he makes it very enjoyable, there are 3 tests and an essay not a hard class just make sure your there!
very good teacher. history has always been difficult for me, but i passed his class with a B. his powerpoints are very handy. i suggest you attend class everyday and on time because what he talks about is what's on the test.
ahhh yeah im not stupid, i know stuff, hist 146 is different from 200, im glad i passed with a C, some people have a harder time with certain subjects than others, ok, you had ppts thats y u did real good, so wutever, u probably had a laptop so
Hungate was a great professor. Used Powerpoints and gave study guides. I didn't use the book once I got A's on all tests. He requires a paper that is simple.
LOL to the one who took 146. I also took Hist 146 and 200 with him and he had powerpoint for us to print out and bring to class unlike 200. It was way easier even though I hated history but I ended up with a B+
well the best thing about the class is that there is not textbook required. LECTURES ARE A MUST!.. his test are based strictly on them. i dont like history much but hes was interesting
Tests are based on lecture so attendance is necessary. Book needs to be read since he doesn't cover everything but expects you to know. There are 3 tests and 1 term paper.
His class was easy going bc all you have to do is go to lecture and take notes. ATTENDENCE IS A MUST. I never read the book, but I would say you need it bc his tests did cover things not in the lecture.Negative things:he isnt really helpful. He always directs you to someone else for help. No office hrs. And he doesnt grad his own term paper :/
This teacher was really good. He lectures the entire time but his lectures are not that boring. He lecture in terms you'll understand. To pass basically record lectures lol, because he says a lot. Know the main topics on the study guide well and you'll pass his test. Google each topic too, it helps. I got a B and i hate history, so he was good.
Good teacher. Made the class interesting. Not a history major, just took the class as an elective and I loved it. Easy to understand and actually interesting. 8am class too so that is saying something! Would love to take another of his classes again if I get the chance
Not a history major, but always been interested. 8am classes normally aren't my cup of tea, but Hungate really kept things interesting. Tests were incredibly straight forward. 1 required paper, 1 extra credit assignment. Overall, a great class! I would definitely take more of his classes if I needed more electives.
great teacher. kept me entertained. his test make you second guess yourself so make sure to study all your notes. i really enjoyed his class. make sure to take good notes.
HIS LECTURES ARE ALL VERBAL. NO POWERPOINTS AND NO TEXTBOOK. IT IS IMPORTANT TO TAKE GOOD NOTES BECAUSE YOU HAVE NO TEXT. TEST ARE A LITTLE TRICKY IF YOU DON'T HAVE ALL THE NOTES. READING ASSINGMENTS ONLINE, A PAPER, AND EXTRA CREDIT. OVERALL A FAIRLY EASY CLASS IF YOU ATTEND CLASS AND PAY ATTENTION. CAN GET BORING SOMETIMES
I have to say he is one of the best history teachers I have ever had. There is no textbook, but there is outside reading and a lot of note taking. But he keeps you interested. He seems to love what he teaches which makes all the diffence
I loved this class and the Professor. He posted his lecture notes online so you could follow along and use them to study for his exams. Simple, easy and a stress free class. Study and write the papers you will get an A.
He is a great professor. I really enjoyed his class the tests are mainly based on his lectures so be sure to attend all of them. His lectures are actually interesting and the class is quite easy. He provides one extra credit assignment based on a movie. There are 3 tests and 1 paper that is due.
Great professor! He lectures all class period so be prepared to take good notes or record. Use the study guide to help you set up a note taking system. Makes the material interesting, and I normally don't understand or learn anything from history! Great class.
I took this course in a setting of 20 people... 2 tests; 1st part: pick 5 terms and define and explain significance. 2nd part: longer written essay answer. 1 (7-10 page) paper. Lecture is solely the professor speaking with a picture on the powerpoint, so record every lecture! He is not a terribly difficult grader. Great prof, I learned a lot.
very straight forward. Lectures are good at times but also boring. Showing up to class is essential because test are based off lecture. Test are tricky but as long as you pay attention you will do good. Gives a cool extra credit assignment at the end of quarter. Take this class!
Typical professor but I like him. He is clear in his instructions and the class is fairly easy. You have to go to class and take notes, I guarantee you will pass the class with a B or an A if you pay attention. He gives you a huge extra credit assignment that boost your grade by 5%! That's huge. Took my grade up to a 88% to a 93%. NO TEXTBOOK!!!!!
Adam Hungate is a great professor. he does not give any PowerPoint what so ever! you have to pick and chose whats important for your notes. Your class grade is based on 3 exams and a term paper. Pretty easy class if your a good note taker, and attend class. I enjoyed his lecture's, even though they were very extensive!
He is the best professor I ever had! This class is an easy A as long as you record the lecture and review the study guide. You HAVE to study for his test because some questions may be tricky if you dont know your material. Dont skip class or youll be confused on the test! He does his best to keep it interesting and funny. No textbook required.
I highly recommend Professor Hungate. He keeps lecturers interesting. He gives open note quizzes after every lecture. On each quiz there is extra credit available. Three exams and one mid term paper. He is willing to clarify or answer any questions you may have and he is a teacher who really wants his students to succeed.
His tests are a little tough because he doesn't use powerpoint but he makes the lectures really entertaining. EXCELLENT History professor.
Attend class and take notes and the tests will be easy for you. He is a good lecturer.
He's only lectures no homework and one term paper mid quarter. His tests are multiple choice if you don't study they're kinda thought but overall not bad. He uses power points and put them online. He's clear and uses basic English to explain his point. If you go to class take notes you'll be good and won't need the book!
Basically, you don't have to attend lectures. He gives you three midterms and the review is online. Also required to write one essay on a movie we watched in class. Other than that he's very laid back and funny.
If you show up and take notes you will do fine. He lectures only, no power point notes. His tests are fairly easy spent around 2 hours studying my notes before the exam. He keeps the class funny and he is always there to help.
He is an amazing prof that makes history interesting. I normally hate history, but he made me look forward to each lecture. He is clear and has a great sense of humor. No book is needed because everything is from lecture. He offers extra credit and one term paper. Definitely recommend
Very interesting professor, pretty easy class. Grade is made up of three tests and and essay with an optional extra credit essay. Tests were straightforward and pretty easy if you listened in lecture. Never used a book, all information came from the lectures. The professor made the class very interesting and was overall a pretty nice guy.
I don't like history to start off with but he is a good professor. Just go to class and take notes and take advantage of the extra credit
Professor Hungate's lectures are interesting. If you're into learning about slaves, civil rights movements, and some fascinating historical events then take this class!! I learned a lot of new things from this class. He's reasonable and you get back what you put it. Show up or get the notes from classmates because his exams are based his lectures.
I got 2 C and one D in his test and still passed with a C so... if you hate history like me and don't mind talking a C take him, but I've heard of other professors who are much easier. His test are not really like what he teaches in lecture, so they're kinda confusing. HE DOESNT HAVE SLIDES!!! I HATE THAT SO MUCH. only talks! and talks fast !!
I hated his class he just talks and talks and talks non-stop max he had about 10 slides the WHOLE quarter, his tests are tough. I DO NOT recommend him
Great professor! There is no textbook required, but there are online readings and I recommend keeping up with those because they show up on the tests. 2 midterms and 1 final, but he gives you a study guide. It is essential to go to class since there is no book and he doesn't upload powerpoints to blackboard. He makes boring material, entertaining!
Print the the study guides and bring them to class with you. Exams cover exactly what is presented during lectures. This professor mainly appeals to auditory learners, therefore, if you have the study guides, you will know exactly what to listen for. Do the extra credit ahead of time. It is worth up to 5% of your final grade, it will come in handy!
Funny guy, his lectures are easy to follow, offers extra credit
You have to show up and listen to the lectures. Every question on every exam is in the lecture or slideshow. Not too boring, I promise. One paper. Extra credit is offered. Do it.
He isn't just a good professor, he's a good person. He will answer any question you have. There is no such thing as a bad question in his class. Don't miss a lecture like I did. He doesn't take attendance, but it is crucial to show up. He gives 3 exams, 1 essay on religion, non cumulative final and EXTRA CREDIT. He tries to give us finals week off
Graded by 4 things. DO NOT MISS CLASS. Take tons of notes because he does not provide any slides. Just try to type everything he says. Tests are a bit misleading but overall they are okay, I would recommend an easier History teacher.
Loved Dr. Hungate's class. Keep in mind, he is very heavy with lectures (rarely ever a powerpoint and if there is, the slides are just pictures). So take good notes or know someone that takes good notes and you're gold. He makes use of his time so don't expect to leave the 2 hour lectures early. 3 exams, 1 term paper, 1 extra credit term paper.
Second history class I've taken with Professor Hungate. VERY lecture heavy, but he makes history so interesting that it's not that hard to follow and take notes. If you listen and take enough notes, the exam is very easy due to every question is from his lecture, no surprises. He is funny and very knowledgable about history altogether!
Don't read the readings I did none and got an A in the class. Everything you need to know is on the study guides that you can access on blackboard. DONT WRITE EVERYTHING HE SAYS DOWN. Only half of what he lectures about is on the test, copy and paste all of the terms from the study guide on a piece of paper and write notes on only those topics.
Professor Hungate was an awesome professor and his course is very simple and straightforward. His class is based on 2 midterms, 1 final, and 1 paper. He does offer extra credit throughout the quarter. He does NOT use powerpoints all he does is talk. So be prepared with a laptop to type notes or write really fast. I did not read at all and got a B+.
Notes are taken everyday so it's best that you show up. Only 3 quizzes & 1 paper for the whole quarter, so the class is fairly easy. He's passionate about what he teaches so it makes the class enjoyable. Great teacher, would definitely take it again
Professor Hungate gives interesting lectures. Through his humor and knowledge, he makes you understand. What I struggled with the most were the test, they can be a bit challenging. As long as you study your notes, you'll be okay.
As a student who does not do well with history Hungate was a solid choice. You will have three test each worth 25% of your grade and are 50 questions each but the test are non cumulative. You will also have an essay worth 25% on the movie Jonestown. The good news is he offers up to 5% extra credit for doing an essay on star wars episode 4.
I took his History 200 class before I took 270 and I liked the way he taught, he gave a midterm, final, and a written assignment on a book he assigned us to read in the beginning of the quarter. know how to balance your time and don't skip class! if you have questions he makes sure to clarify and help you.
I love history..... he made me hate history. His reviews are great on here however his class was a drag to go to and the test were frustrating even if you went to class. Study guide did little to nothing to help. Take notes and just relax i guess.
Love this professor! We have 3 exams which are 25% of our grade but as long as you go to class, and take good notes youll be fine. Some students come in class dragging their feet/ dont write down anything and that reflects their grade, you get what you give with this class. His teaching made history interesting , not a boring class!
all he does is lecture and does not provide a power point. tests seem to be very different than the notes.
I like the way he teach the class, he makes it interesting, but if you're not a good listener and a slow writer I suggest you record his voice because he talks fast. Study guide didn't help a lot, no powerpoint slide. We have to depend on our listening and note taking skills. He didnt tell us what was going to be on the exam. Some isnt on the guide
The professor is very cool. One tip of advice that I would give would be to print out the study guide ahead of time. During class you have it and are able to write down the specific topics he mentions. That way when you study you won't have to be looking all over the place at your notes.
Professor Hungate's class was an easy A, his expectations are clear. Show up, take notes, and study those notes after. His tests can be difficult, but studying consistently will allow you to pass easily. He delivers the information in an efficient manner, so there is no reason to get a low grade.
I loved his lectures. Its a long class so it can get boring but he structures his lectures as if its like a story. Three exams one paper and one extra credit paper on Star Wars. If you dont show up to class its going to be hard.
Awesome professor. If you take notes and attend each class then it is going to be an easy class. What he says in class will be exactly what is on the test. Your notes will be more valuable than the study guide. One thing I didn't like is how he graded the paper, I dont even think he read it. Would definitely take him again
Dr. Hungate is a wonderful professor. He tells History like its a story; everything sounds like he's speaking from personal experience. Very passionate about teaching and never skips a beat. 1 midterm, 1 final, 1 term paper, 1 EC paper, but, he's a very easy grader. This is my 2nd class with him and I hope he gets more upper divisions soon!
Consists of three exams non cumulative based on lectures, and a essay on a movie. His lectures are said in a story, so pay attention. Attendance is mandatory in order to do well on exams. No homework, no books, just his lectures. Lectures are really funny and interesting.
Amazing, learned alot. Very simple
He has 2 essays and they both are due at the end of the quarter. One of them is on star wars and it's extra credit. Class isn't mandatory, all exam study guides are posted along with the syllabus the first day. He talks the whole lecture for notes, no power points. He's a funny professor, I enjoyed that class.
make sure to show up. attendance isn't mandatory, but you should. some advice, print the study guide out ahead of time because he covers each section like how it is that way you know what to study.
He basically just talks the whole time so if you're not an auditory learner, you'll fail. You're better off learning by yourself than from him.
Very very easy class! Professor Hungate actually made a topic I could care less about super interesting. I learned a lot. The study guides really helped as well as the extra credit. As long as you show up to class you barely need to study. I did not buy the textbook just the book required to write the paper. Would take again!
Beware of his lectures are quick just him speaking, had a had time in his class. Many classmates found his class difficult to understand
Recommend to print out your review sheet for each exam and take it with you during lecture! Helps out a lot on what he goes over. There are 3 exams, not so hard, just take good notes. STUDY STUDY STUDY for the exams!! they are tricky, BUT NOT HARD! Extra credit opportunity. One essay paper (super easy!)
Professor Hungate makes what is usually a boring subject very interesting. You can tell he really cares about the stuff he is teaching so the lectures are always great. Attendance was not mandatory but I would still recommend going because he covers a lot. There is an EC which is easy and no textbook is required. Just study/show up and youll pass.
Class is very simple. Graded on 3 exams. Never went to class. You can find his study guides for his exams online. 1 essay on a documentary which he shows in class. Did not go to class you can find it on youtube. Professor is very knowledgeable about the subject I will give him that.
Absolutely loved his class, I have never been a fan of history but the way he teaches it is so great you actually want to keep listening and learning more! I would recommend him for any and every class that he teaches!
Alright imma be real with y'all, I passed his class with an A. I did not read the book, and I missed lecture like 4 times. When you do go to class PAY ATTENTION, its actually really interesting. Also there is two essays due, one is on San Fran, read if you can, DONT BE LIKE me and bs it, Is till got an A on the paper not reading it. Good Prof.
He is a good professor and knows his stuff when teaching even if his lectures are sometimes heavy. Although the attendance isnt mandatory for Lectures, if you miss class you wont get any Important information on the exams. Two Exams total, the midterm and one Final, one term paper and gives a chance for extra credit (writing another paper).
Hungate was a good professor if you like lecture heavy classes. He's pretty funny so a lot of the time his lectures can be amusing but he doesn't have slides, he just talks the whole time and you write down what he's saying. 3 tests, 1 essay on a (pretty good) documentary we watch in class but it's also on YouTube , 1 extra credit essay.
great professor, makes things easy. nice and funny guy, easy tests and extra credit options.
There is no book needed, so that means you must attend class to be prepared for the test questions on the exams. It's the small things that you'll be tested on, so you must take notes, but it's history so it is nothing too unfamiliar.
Prof. Hungate is the best lecture I've ever had. I never got bored in his class because his way of teaching was very fun, he lectured as if he were telling a story. I hated history in high school but this class made me start loving it. He's very passionate about what he teaches, which makes the class way more enjoyable and interesting.
This course comes with a lot of detail on the quiz. If you are not local American students and you didn't know everything about American history, you should take more time to prepare for the quiz. Your grand is based on quizzes and tests. The online based on the reading on the blackboard and the YouTube video lecture that the professor recorded.
Very straightforward class. 1 midterm and 1 final each 25% . A 4 page paper on a book fairly easy but its 50% of the class. As long you read the book and read the lectures he posts you will do fine. Pretty easy class !
His teaching is heavy. He didnt give any powerpoint. He just made videos lecture with talking only. His videos lecture is 1hr each. You have to watch 4 of them every week. Unorganized study guide. His test didnt relate to the video lectures. Dont take his class. Choose other classes.
He just gives lectures and readings but the tests are easy A+'s as long as you just pay attention during lectures and study using his study guide.
A very straight forward professor and his syllabus is clear too. It's important to stay on top of lectures & take notes. He only grades 3 exams and there is an extra credit opportunity. He responds to emails relatively fast too. His class is asynchronous so that can either be in your favor or a disadvantage. Make sure to really study for exams.
To be honest yes I passed barely but I just did not enjoy how he taught. I feel like he can fix his own lectures. There is no zoom meetings. No homework. Class is graded by three exams and 1 extra credit assignment. The exams are heavy if you get a low grade better pray you pass the others.
Professor made hour long lectures to watch. Study guides were not in chronological order making it difficult to take notes and study. Class was basically worthless and very difficult. Choose another teacher.
Stay away from this class. Impossible to get an A let alone a B. Hour long lectures a few days week and it is not easyu to study for the class since nothing is in order.
Your grade in the class is based on 3 quizzes, and he doesnt curve them. He does give an extra credit paper, and I would recommend you do it. You ABSOLUTELY have to pay attention to the reading and lectures to pass the class.
He does video lectures and we never actually ever talk to him unless you ask a question. He only grades 3 exams and gives the opportunity to write an extra credit paper based on a documentary film. The exams rely solely on the lectures that are over an hour long. I mostly got B's in all my exams but with the extra credit paper I got an A
Only 3 exams no other assignments. No zoom meetings. If you get a bad grade or miss an exam you automatically fail. His lectures were super long videos, and if you didnt watch them or read long excepts of books he posted, you wont pass the class. Beware of quizlets of the exams. This class seems easy, but poor work ethic can make you suffer.
Basically what everybody else says Your grade is summed up from only 3 tests. This class was great since there was no work, but when it came down to tests the questions are often meant to trick you. If you could take a different professor, do it. He is an amazing lecturer, but you must watch sometimes 2 1 hour videos every week. Extremely draining
I took this class online, but compared to the other classes i have taken online. He is the best he was very clear on what he expected from you as a student. His lectures were long (as expected in a history class), but interesting. Just be sure to take diligent lecture notes.
Your grade for this course is based on ONLY 3 tests (all 3 tests are 50 questions each). Just take the tests during the correct time window and dont bomb them. Hes pretty accessible and he also sends reminders before tests. His lectures are up on YouTube to watch at your own pace. He also offers an extra credit assignment!
The class is barely any work, however, the tests will get you if you aren't prepared. Lectures are interesting but LONG. Very hard for me to watch through them. I did fairly well with minimal work, and would honestly recommend. If you apply yourself, you can get a (relatively) easy A.
Highly suggested to make a groupchat with other students so you can send notes to each other if you miss class!! your final grade is based only on 3 exams (curved) and 1 extra credit assignment (essay). the exams were okay but some questions are meant to trick you so be aware
this class was overall very easy. Attendance isn't mandatory but you should go more then half of the time. If you go to class and take notes, you should be able to pass. You are only graded by 3 things which are EXAMS. 3 exams and thats your grade. Most of the time you could find them on quizlet but taking notes is still helpful.
Very nice guy. His lectures were genuinely engaging and interesting. The contents of the class are very dense so good note taking is a must.
Overall Hungate is your typical college history professor. The class was a lot of work but as long as you keep up with everything you should do fine.
Professor Hungate was a great professor. His class is very straightforward forward although his lectures are mainly him just speaking and less about the slides, he knows his stuff and makes it very interesting if you enjoy history. As long as you show up and take notes and listen you'll be fine.
Guy talks about irrelevant things that are not on the test. Talks for ever to point you cant even take notes. Does not post slides to help out. Overall really bad instructor. Dont take his class if you wanna graduate.
This class was fully online and there were zero assignments so your whole grade is based off the three exams you take throughout the semester and he does offer an extra credit assignment. If you watch the lectures he posts you'll do fine.
All I have to say is his lectures are an hour long but only has like 3 exams during the semester ! Just pay attention and easy A !! He also offers extra credit.
He is a great professor. He talks the whole time but he is funny, and does not make history too boring. There are 3 exams that you have a whole day and like 2 hours to complete 50 questions. I definitely recommend taking him very nice!
Hungate is such a sweetheart. I rarely found history to be interesting, but Hungate made it enjoyable. He only graded the exams and offered extra credit. Attendance wasn't mandatory but I recommend attending as his lectures are really informative and very interesting!
Dr.Hungate is an amazing teacher. His lectures are very interesting and they reflect the true passion he puts into his teaching. There is no homework but instead the class is graded on 3 exams and 1 optional extra credit assignment. The exams are multiple choice and if you attend the lecture, you will definitely understand the content!
Although not mandatory, attendance is super important if you want to pass the class. Missing one day affects a lot. Be sure to take very detailed notes, the class is ONLY graded off of three tests. Tests are 50 questions each and goes over content covered in class. Offers one extra credit paper. Only an easy A if you attend all the lectures.
All exams are online and the class is grades by midterm 1, 2, and the final. Offers an extra credit assignment for optional points.
this class was really easy. no homework! only 3 exams, 1 exam, midterm, and then the final. plus the tests are online, open note/book. he even offers extra credit. if you need a history class take him he's very easy, love him.
such a nice professor!! attendance is not mandatory but his lectures are very interesting and detailed. would recommend going to take notes for the midterm and final. he makes the hour very enjoyable and it usually went by fast for me. no homework but 3 exams and he does offer extra credit. overall very easy and intriguing!
Loved Hungates' class, never a boring moment. He tries his best to keep us engaged and cracks a few jokes here and there. Exams aren't too bad as long as you pay attention to lectures. Final isn't cumulative so that's a plus too. If you love history, this is the class for you (fellow history lover lol).
Great professor for someone that doesn't enjoy history! Was very detailed and made everything very easy to understand. There are only 3 tests that are part of your grade and a extra credit 4 paged paper. Attendance isn't mandatory but there would be random times he'd give out extra credit to the students there. Lots of note taking! Funny professor.
This class is an easy A. His extra credit is VERY helpful and I would HIGHLY recommend doing his extra credit if you begin to struggle throughout the semester.
I had him for a summer program, and he was a good professor. He always came with a positive attitude, and gave Amazing lectures and made the class interesting. On the way. He spoke about the material. he didn't give us any homework, but gave us the opportunity for extra credit.
It was the best class I have even taken!! All the lectures were in person but no attendance point, and all exams were ONLINE!!!! no homework at all. but you might need to write a paper for extra credit.
Very good professor , super caring and funny! Don't skip lectures because he explains everything you need to know for the tests. Just focus on the key terms and definitions he gives. No homework, just light reading and an optional extra credit essay. Fun class, I'd definitely take him again!
Only 3 open book timed exams to do. Exams open one to two days when you have to do an exam, they all have their own due date, only one attempt, once you answer a question on the exam, you can not go back, so read carefully.
really easy class, but the only thing in the grade book are tests. he does curve them too.
Professor Hungate is a very chill teacher, with a straightforward class. If youre the type to skip classes, I would not recommend him, as attendance is make or break for him. His methods of teaching is very lecture heavy, and he does not upload them online. Go to class, and youll get a good grade. He does do extra credit, and his feed back is good.
His class was pretty chill. Only 3 exams throughout the whole course and provides an extra credit assignment. He gives an hour lecture online every week and all you have to do it take notes for those weeks until an exam pops up. Easy to get in contact with.
