Not a very good teacher. Moves very fast. Makes it all about religion which is VERY confusing. I would recommend getting out of his class if you get him.
TERRIBLE. just talks and talks and never gives you a break to catch up on what he is saying. the tests are all based on the readings we do which is never gone over in class. no textbook, very difficult to study for
He is the worst teacher ever. All he does is talk the whole time and you have to write down everything he says, which is very confusing and gives you no time to comprehend anything. There are no handouts, no power points, no notes, and no book. He is extremely unhelpful as well. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. It is impossible to do well. He should be fired
Worst teacher I have ever had, by far. It is obvious that the only thing he is teaching for is a paycheck. If you are doing bad in his class and go to him for help, the only thing he will tell you is that your best bet is to drop the class. DO NOT TAKE!
This is a History 1010 and he is an awful teacher. Tries to make it interesting, which is nice. However, go to him during office hours and he is unhelpful and offers no real suggestion other that to drop his class. THIS IS NOT A SUGGESTION to give students. He clearly doesn't care about teaching or Auburn university.
He is a funny guy and is nice but he is a terrible teacher! He never tells you what to write down, talks about a million miles an hour, won't let you record his lectures and expects you to remember every little thing he says for his exams. DO NOT TAKE HIM.
literally, this man ruined my 4.0 - it is impossible to take notes during his lecture because it is so scattered that you don't know what to write down. he tries to be funny and isn't. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS because it is literally impossible to get an A.
awful professor. talked way too fast and wouldnt let you record his lectures. went to his office several times and he was not helpful at all. worst teacher ive ever had. DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!
Very hard!! He goes very fast and he jumps all over the place! If you hate history I wouldn't take him, however if you do take him I would suggest studying with a group because you can't catch everything he says and write all of it down by yourself. If you are a bad note taker I wouldn't take him...he won't let you record his lectures!! bad teacher
Tests are ridiculously hard asks questions from lecture notes which lectures are hard to follow, no power point. questions are asked using reversed reasoning/how the terms are related to other topics. studied for 8+ hours to make a 70 after making all a's in high school. stupidly hard for a freshman level world history class.
Jortner is a great teacher, in my opinion. I think the people complaining about him just don't exert themselves. He makes class very interesting and that helps the material sink in. Take Jortner if you want to keep history interesting!
Funny Guy, awful teacher! His lectures are scattered to say the least. Almost impossible to find the main idea in his ramblings. No power point or any other type of supplemental materiel. Reading assignments average 200-400 pages a test. His tests are impossible Questions are all meant to trick you, asks about the smallest details in reading
HIs lectures are hard to follow and there is a lot of readings for tests. His tests are super hard, asking many details from readings and lectures and doesn't ask just facts but instead how one thing relates to another. He is not helpful and doesn't really want students to do good. I studied for 8 hours and still failed. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!
Professor Jortner is awesome. His lectures are very detailed and he spends a lot of time explaining things so students may understand better. If you apply yourself and read over notes as well as the readings, you should be fine. The tests are a bit hard and tricky. I studied a ridiculous amount and have a C right now.
Professor Jortner is the worst teacher ever. He is horrible, won't help you- his lectures are impossible to follow and that is all he gives you for the test- plus the 300+ page reading you have to do for each test. He doesnt have a textbook- so he expects you to study his horrible notes. For a freshman level history class, its horrible.Dont take!
Great teacher and an easy class if you take notes and come to class. He does assign a lot of reading but I read maybe 30% of the assignments and focus on the notes and I've gotten a high B or A on every test. I only study for maybe one to two hours for every test I really don't understand the people who say his class is hard...
Would not take him ever again. His tests are extremely hard. focuses mainly on religion, and he is not willing to help students with anything. I would drop his class immediately if you get him. If you are a history major his class might be for you but it is way to difficult for a freshman class.
Not recommended. Lecture notes are random, inconsistent, and presented entirely too fast. Exam questions are highly ambiguous including reading-assignment questions. Four exams each 25% of overall term grade give little room for error. Miss more than 10 questions on an exam and you have at best a C. Overall flawed teaching strategy.
VERY HARD!! His lectures are entertaining and fast paced. He will asterisk terms that matter, but don't go by it, he will test you on everything he says. His tests are very difficult and lots of the questions are ambiguous. He assigns 40 pgs of reading a night on average and some of it is very boring. class is on religion he says wars are boring
He is a very good teacher! Truly passionate about what he teaches! Bring a computer and type notes! He tends to go fast and jump around but bold all stared points and make notecards! Best way to study is notecards! READ everything but saints and sinners its too boring and confusing! Just try PAY ATTENTION and you will do fine! Good teacher
So I'm a good student, I studied hard, I exerted myself, I went to class, I read the assignments- I still got a C. He is a terrible teacher and he's practically useless when you ask questions. Test questions are very specific about the out of class reading and very vague about the lecture material. I hated this class with a passion.
THIS CLASS WAS AWFUL! I am a fairly good student and could not pass any of his tests. I recorded his lectures, typed my notes on the computer, got extra notes from other students, had a study group, did the reading..NOTHING HELPED. I even went to his office and was just given snide remarks I ended up with a D in the class. WORST TEACHER EVER!!
Interesting lectures and very enthusiastic. He gives you all the key words and people you need to know and emphasizes main points. DO THE READINGS because they are a vital part of the test. Just went over notes a couple times and made high A's and B's. Tests are NOT impossible by any means.
Terrible, he refused to help me at all. His office hour suggestions to me was to just "drop his class". He jumped around to much in lectures. Refused to use power points. Tests were hard and unreasonable for a freshman 101 class.
He is a good teacher, but since he did study religious history before, that is mostly what he focuses on. The texts are extremely important, so DO THE READINGS. other wise you will fail the class. He is very helpful with his office hours and even helped me learn to study and even gave me extra points on my test for showing up.
Great teacher. to those who say he isn't helpful or easy, wake up! this isn't high school. dr. jortner's lectures are the most interesting things i've ever heard in a class room. he's hilarious, and, though the test aren't easy, the class is really enjoyable. do the readings and you'll do fine.
Jortner is a very funny, entertaining guy. His teaching skills on the other hand should not be used for a basic History class that consists of mostly freshmen. His readings are at least 200+ pages a week and no matter what kind of notes you take, there will be questions on the test that you've never even heard of. I studied like crazy and got a C
Awesome lecturer and extremely interesting. Do quality work and you'll receive a quality grade.
This class was by far the hardest class I've ever taken. I got A's in all my classes except this one, where i scored a D. His lecture comprised of him babbling and scribbling key words on a projector and expecting you to be able to write down every word he was saying.
Dr. Jortner is an interesting teacher. I worked my butt off for this class and only got a B. He expects a lot from you and wants work that is the equivalent of that of someone with their doctorate in history. However, he knows what he is talking about and I really enjoyed the material he covered.
AWESOME professor. Don't let the other comments deter you from taking his class. Lectures/discussions were so interesting. He is a really smart guy and sometimes the info can go over students' heads, but his class is not hard.
His lectures were definitely very interesting, but it was definitely a difficult class. I highly recommend making a timeline for the test because it will help you sort out dates. Definitely read the texts because that is what the tests are mainly on and I definitely didn't do that and that's probably why I didn't do too hot.
Loved his class! Looked forward to it all week. His lectures are fascinating and hilarious, but make sure you do the assigned readings or his material might go over your head. Favorite teacher at Auburn!
I absolutely loved this class. Even though we never had tests, I feel like I learned so much. Class discussion is very important, so make sure you read and participate. If you do the work, then it is really easy to get a good grade. Jortner is fun in class and really cares about you learning.
HIST 1010 RUN FROM HIM! his notes were horrible-he scribbled a few things down but other than that you have to write what he says for your notes. tons of reading and there will be 2 questions from the reading on the test. never could figure out where he would get the test ques from.
His class is easy enough to do well in as long as you talk often during class and do the readings. However, the class discussions were always really random and scattered in topics. I don't feel like I learned much. If you don't like to talk in class, 1017 isn't for you.
You have to go to class but he's really interesting, but sit near thed front because everything he does is written on the board!
He was scary the first day and half of the class dropped, but after that he was amazing. He keeps class interesting for sure. You HAVE to go to class and you HAVE to answer questions, but it's worth it. I learned a ton. His essays are really hard, but he's willing to help you. You have to be willing to work, but if you are, you'll do well!
His lectures are pretty interesting. You have to go to class and you have to participate if you want credit for the day. As long as you can write a fairly good paper, you will do fine in the course. A good bit of reading, but if I had to I would take him again.
Probably the best history course I've taken. Dr. Jortner's lectures are entertaining and informative. He is definitely passionate about early American history, which is much more interesting than most people think. You will have to work hard to do well, but the class is never boring.
Whoever says that Dr. Jortner sucks is wrong. He'll intimidate you the first day to see who will actually stick around but after that he's so awesome! He's always willing to help and wants you to succeed. Readings can get lengthy but class discussion isn't hard. Go to class because it's the majority of your gade! He loves his job and is great!!!!!
Great teacher, but you either love his classes or you dont When you are wrong he tells you that you are wrong, and how and why. His books are not monsters usually, but there are alot of them. He assigns alot of reading, expects you to do it, particpate in class, and doesnt take excuses. You will learn if you pay attention. No tests, just papers.
A demanding teacher. But if you are a history major, he makes you a better one. Lots of reading and few assigment that require alot of work. More than willing to help, but doesnt take excuses. Opionions and Questions are great as long as your intelligent, but not stupid onew. He tells you exactly where, how, and why you are wrong.
Excellent class with a focus on Thomas Jefferson. Jortner is not the easiest history teacher at Auburn, but definitely one of the best teachers and lecturers. Demands excellence and work, but it is well worth it simply for what you will learn in his classes. History majors should take everything they can with him.
Very in to his lectures but knows a lot about what he is talking about. Wants to know his students but the tests are kinda difficult. Make sure you have all the books before class starts or else you will become very behind on the reading
If you want to be the best, you have to take classes from the best. Dr. Jortner will push you and challenge you the entire way, but he does it with energy, humor, and style. Don't mistake his intelligence for intimidation, he truly wants the best for his students. He is more than happy to invest in you if you show that you are willing to work.
Dr. Jortner is one of the best History teachers I have ever had. History is one of my least favorite classes, but he made it interesting. I wouldn't say he is easy, but if you work hard you can make a good grade. If you outline the readings, take good notes, and listen you will do fine.
Not a fan of the subject, but Jortner knows how to keep you interested. He is fun and entertaining and willing to help if he sees you've been trying. You can tell he loves what he does; he gets very animated about the subjects covered. Assigned seating, no phones or laptops allowed in class, tricky tests, historical novels rather than a textbook.
Jortner LOVES his job! He is very passionate and animated when he lectures! He assigns a lot of reading, but the subject is interesting. His tests are not that bad as long as you STUDY. I am so glad I took this class! YOU SHOULD TAKE IT TOO!!
I definitely recommend Dr. Jortner's class! Not only is he a fantastic teacher, but he makes the class interesting since he can barely contain his excitement. He is pretty tough, but if you do the readings and take notes you'll do fine.
Prof. Jortner is awesome. Knows his stuff, and makes the class fun and entertaining. Tests are very easy as long as you pay attention during the lectures. I did well without doing the reading but I would have definitely made an A+ if I had read.
Dr. Jortner is my favorite professor at Auburn. He's very excited about what he teaches and gets you excited as well. Has great class discussions. You do a lot of work but you learn SO much. I definitely recommend taking any of the classes he teaches.
All you have to do to get an A on the tests is do the readings and occasionally pay attention in class. He's a fun guy.
Professor Jortner is my favorite history professor at Auburn! I took his Religious History course during the summer term and although it is a lot of work and you have to attend everyday if you participate and do your work you'll be fine!
He's a great professor and really really cares about his students. His lectures are exciting and fun and always interesting. He is my absolute favorite professor and I will continue to take his classes for credit or for none because they are so great! Ask questions and go to office hours. Its a hard class but a great one!
Prof Jortner expects you to already know how to read something and analyze it. He is really passionate about history and it shows through his lectures. I don't really like history, but he made it interesting. His pet peeves are attendance and participation!! Also, it is a given you will do badly on the papers because he is unclear about his wants.
Dr. Jortner is a great professor. I have never liked history very much but he made it interesting and entertaining. If you go to class and do the reading you should be fine.
Dr. Jortner knows how to teach and does it well. There aren't many assignments, but if you do the reading and participate you should be fine. The grading is very subjective because there aren't any tests, but that can help you if he knows that you're putting in the effort. This class is really more about critical thinking than history.
He was very rude. He isn't willing to help you. He tells individual students in class to put their phone away. Last time I checked this isn't high school. I ended up dropping the course. Would not recommend
After rejection 3 topics for my research paper he then eviscerates me in his office while there were no wittiness. You have been warned that he has he has done this to other people.
i'm not very much a "history person" and actually enjoyed his class. tells corny jokes but is pretty funny. definitely interested about what he is teaching & makes class interesting. definitely need to read book assignments, but i didn't and guessed on tests and did okay, but i wish i would've read more. overall, not a bad history class to take
Take this guy if you don't want to write essays. 80% of your grade comes from 4 multiple choice tests. His tests aren't that bad. He tells you what you need to know in the lectures. Lots of corny jokes but some of them are funny at times. He gives a lot of reading assignments and 15% of the tests are reading Q's. Good class all round. I approve
Jortner is not going to baby you. Anyone on here that didn't like him clearly doesn't take criticism well. He's going to hold you to really high standards, but he genuinely wants you to do well. BUT you have to work for it. Ask questions and talk in class and he'll like you. GO TO OFFICE HOURS. Genuinely a great professor, despite his reputation.
This class is by far the worst ive ever taken. His teaching methods dont make any sense and the notes you get in class are scattered on the board with no organization. His office hours just send you in circles and dont even try to email him because if doesnt reply and if he does he tell you to go to office hours. Very unprofessional -10/10
Great professor, good lectures, but way too nitpicky when it comes to papers, if it wasn't already hard enough trying to pack a decent paper into 500 words. If you are a flow writer, or analysis writer, dont take this class. it is a nightmare for your writing style, and you will suffer for it.
Tons of reading for discussion questions. You need to show up to class to participate in discussion, but if you do youll get an easy 100 for those points. No tests, just 2 papers and final paper is optional. Really cool guy, knows what hes talking about but difficult/specific grader on papers. I recommend meeting with him for outlining.
IF YOU ARE TAKING HIST 2010 DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. I cannot express enough how difficult he makes such an EASY class. He grades papers as if you are writing the next Harry Potter book. He is a cool dude and his lectures are unique, but you could make a 100 on all his discussions and bomb the essays and end up with a low B or C. Do not take him
IF YOU NEED CREDIT FOR HIST2010 DONT TAKE HIS CLASSSS!!!!!!! He is a smart person, but never a good teacher.
If you are taking history 1010, Jortner is the man. Only four tests the whole semester and no other assignments. Test questions are derived directly from lectures and the few easy reading assignments he gives. He knows his stuff like nobody's business and his lectures are easy to stay engaged with because of it. Doesn't take himself too seriously.
Guys. Take him for History. Thank me later. He doesn't make you buy a book, nor does he read from one. He centers the history around religion which is more interesting to me anyways. During the Covid-19 stuff his lecture videos were the highlight of my week (he went viral). You do have to go to class for any of the info but it's worth it trust me.
Dr. Jortner made the class as interesting in possible, but its only lectures. Graded by only 4 tests, so lots of studying are needed for all of them. Attendance isn't mandatory, but if you have perfect attendance 2 points are added to the final grade at the end of the semester. An okay class overall, but lots of studying and note taking are needed!
Professor Jortner was one of the best professors. He made learning history interesting and he really knows what he is teaching. His tests weren't hard at all as long as you pay attention to the lectures and read the easy readings that are assigned. The only things you have that are graded in his class are four tests.
The class isnt the easiest but Jortner makes it interesting and was super helpful with everything that happened because of covid 19, very understanding, and was not difficult like a lot of professors were!! definitely recommend if you need a history credit!
Professor Jortner was a very mediocre history professor. I am typically one to be invested in my history class, but his lectures honestly we not very engaging. I would only take him again because of familiarity, but it would probably be a last resort. He is very very reading-heavy and there are only 4 exams. As a bad test taker, it was a bit tough.
At the beginning I wasnt having the best time tbh because we had assigned seats and had to take handwritten notes which for me was kinda painful. But Jortner actually ended up being such a great teacher and funny. He stars everything while lecturing that can be on the test and gives outside reading which can be a lot at times but it is helpful.
Your grade only consists of 4 tests, so definitely attend lecture and study. He makes lectures interesting and fun! His lectures were especially captivating during the pandemic and he even went tik tok viral! Definitely recommend if you want to be interested while learning history.
He makes the lectures interesting and you can tell he cares about his job and students, be sure to do the assigned readings and show up for class and you'll get an A.
He was truly passionate about history and it showed. His lectures were dense but readings and having study groups to go over it worked wonders. No electronics allowed in class, but his tests were multiple choice. The exams test you on the readings so it is smart to do them. He really cares for his students though and makes history fun.
I thought he was pretty entertaining during class, he's one of the few professors who actually likes to teach and gets excited about the content.
Not a bad class at all. Mandatory attendance, but gives two extra points to your final grade if you don't miss a class. There are only 4 test that make up your grade, but they're not bad if you study the material he gives during lecture. Would definitely take him again! no essays !!
His lectures are extremely boring to listen to. He assigns multiple readings over a short period of time to have completed. The exams are only easy if you remember very small, specific details from the readings. His practice exams are only five questions when the actual exams are forty questions. If you like to read then this class is for you.
Professor Jortner is the worst history professor I have ever had. The class is treated more like a literature class than an actual history class. The only grades you have are essays that you often do not find out about till the week their due. He grades his essays very meticulously and there is little to no chance for bonus activities.
Professor Jortner believes his teaching method is the way to teach. It's a talking lecture with minimal slides of his own. He assigns a reading every 2 days, and tests on extremely minute details of the readings. Grading is based on 4 exams, but the practice exams are 5 questions while the real ones are 40-50. Very difficult to learn in this class.
You can choose to go to class or listen to the zoom. His exams were all multiple choice, but it was really hard. Definitely read the book to take the test. His tests were proctored.
At the beginning of the semester, it seemed like it would be a really tough class. It wound up being not that bad. There are only four tests in the class that make up 25% of your grade each. Even though that may seem scary, all the info you'll be tested over will be on the powerpoints in the lecture so don't worry. You also don't have homework.
Jortner is a really good professor. He includes humorous stories & facts in his lectures. You can go in person, watch zoom, or watch recorded lectures later on. He puts an asterisk(*) by any important details so you know what to remember. There is a reading every week that will show up on the test. There are only 4 exams, so make sure to study!
Worst Professor and worst class.
Professor Jortner is one of the hardest professors I have had at Auburn. His test are absolutely impossible and thats the only grades you receive. I would never take this class again
I really enjoyed Dr. Jortner's class. This semester, all his lectures were on Zoom, but they were uploaded to canvas so you can rewatch them if needed. I think he is a great lecturer and he is very passionate and knowledgable about history. His class is only graded by 4 tests but they are all mult. choice and not that bad. Definitely recommend!!
Dr. Jortner is an amazing professor. Lectures are not boring bc he really cares about history and wants to make sure we understand. DO THE READING, it makes up about 20% of the test, but if you pay attention to it and take a few notes you'll be able to answer. Grade is made up of 4 tests, but they're all multiple choice. Would 100% take him again.
I dreaded taking History, but Professor Jortner made it so much fun. No exams. Every assignment was an essay. He is a tough grader, so make sure you read his grading criteria. If you are shy, let him know. If you have any difficulties, let him know. Overall, a great class experience. I highly suggest taking history with Jortner.
Dr. Jortner is a great professor. Class is all lectures and LOTS of reading outside of class. 4 tests, the final exam just counting as a test. 80% test material from lectures and 20% from reading (which isn't covered in the lectures). You learn a lot if you pay attention and read, but his tests aren't super easy. Lectures are very interesting.
I do not know how I made an A. Grade is based on 4 tests. Tests are on lectures and outside readings you have to do. He makes the lectures fun to watch, but it is a lot of material. The tests are proctored online. He is accessible outside of class and cares for his students, just the set up of the class is hard.
Amazing teacher. Makes his class fun and whitty. Only grades are the four tests but he ensures that you know exactly what to study in order to succeed.
I loved Dr. Jortner! Take lots of notes and do all the reading and you will pass each exam with A's. If you skip class, do not like to take good notes, and do not do any of the reading, you will not do well in this class. Dr. Jortner is genuinely so interesting and knowledgeable and I always looked forward to attending this class.
This was arguably the worst class I have ever taken.
Dr. Jortner is amazing professor who really engages students. The class is lecture based but he makes it interesting. He makes sure you know what will be on the test which is so helpful. Take good notes, do the readings, and you'll be fine. Highly recommend his classes!
Jortner is clearly so passionate about what he does makes class fun to attend! He is so genuine and truly cares about how his students do. However, the grade for this class is only 4 test grades which are 27-30 questions each. No room for error at all. Jortner is great but his grading system is difficult.
Dr. Jortner is super passionate about history. His lectures can get a little boring sometimes, but attendance isn't mandatory. It is really beneficial to go though. There is a lot of reading, but he sometimes tells you if you have to read it or not in class. PLENTY of EC opportunities if you go to class too. GREAT person, slightly boring class.
He is honestly a really great professor. However, DO THE READINGS!! They make up a large portion of your exams and will hurt you if you don't read them. The only grades are your exams, but he offers A LOT of extra credit. As long as you actually study and put in the work for the class, you should do good on the exams.
Horrible. Avoid at all cost
I loved Dr. Jortner! If you take this class, the best advice is to attend class and do the reading. If you do those things, there won't be any big problems! His lectures are in-depth and really help comprehension, and the SI sessions are great. I really liked him because he seems to really like what he does and makes the class interesting.
Tests are tough. There are lots of reading assignments so if you don't do them, don't expect to get above an 80 on the test. Lectures are really interesting and he makes them fun to sit through. Always has lots of energy. His office hours are really helpful, and he genuinely wants to help you succeed. Offers extra credit and is a great professor!
Loved this class a lot!! Genuinely a fun class and makes the lectures very interesting. Lots of extra credit opportunities. Attendance is key. Tests aren't bad if you go to the lecture and read the assigned reading. Would 100% take this class again.
I LOVED Dr. Jortner's class. The tests are difficult, but he provides extra credit opportunities so as long as you do those you'll be fine. His lectures are really interesting, but there is reading after every single class which can be a lot of material sometimes. He's also always there during his office hours and will make appointments if needed!
This class consists of 5 test grades that make up your final grade. Each worth 20% with the 5th test being the final. The readings for each test aren't required but if you don't read them then you won't score well on the tests. Dr. Jortner is very passionate about teaching which makes the class better, but grading system is not good.
Passionate and interesting lectures. Take good and detailed notes (he talks a lot) but be able to grasp the important main messages when studying for tests. Go to class or you will fail. Read the required readings or you wont do well on tests. Don't bomb your first test, it will be almost impossible to bring your grade up. All multiple choice tests
I took him for HIST 1010, and he was a really engaging professor. There is a lot of reading, and you will have to buy books if you can't find them online. But his tests were pretty straightforward if you pay attention, read, and take notes. I created Quizlets based on my notes and just studied those. Some extra credit opportunities
I would laugh almost every lecture
I absolutely loved Professor Jortner! If I could take his class again I 100% would. There was a good amount of reading but if you stayed on top of it you were fine. There were plenty of extra credit opportunities given, so show up to class and you will get extra credit just for being there. He is the best!!
Professor Jortner makes this class really engaging. While there's a lot of reading, the tests are straightforward if you attend lecture, take notes, and use resources like unstuck study to prep. Definitely take this class if you can - it's worth it!
If you're not looking to engage with the material and participate in class discussion then don't take this class! That being said, I thoroughly enjoyed Jortner's lectures and can confidently say that he made me a much better student. Highly recommend if you're willing to try.
Extremely difficult
This professor required soooo much reading and studying in order to do well. I have a tutor, go to AI sessions, and I am a straight-A student in my other classes. I met with him, and it did not help. I would recommend taking anyone else. For Hist 1010, this class is simply too much work. I study so hard and can't make above a 75.
Your grade in the class is determined by 5 tests (weighted 20% each). Attendance is not mandatory but you have to go if you want to do well. His lectures aren't bad and are actually quite funny and interesting. There is quite a bit of reading too but as long as you actually read and go to class you'll be fine.
Engaging lectures given the boring class material, but too many readings. Only 5 tests, which make up your entire grade with no room to make mistakes. Readings and random trivia are most of the test and only half of the test is actually from the lectures. If you want to know some answers on the tests, though, you must attend every lecture.
Not happy with this dude. Despite studying, I got a bad grade on the first exam, and there's little to no extra credit to recover. With so few graded items and high effort yielding poor results, it's clear this class is unfair and not rewarding.
Be ready for a lot of reading; he assigns four textbooks and online required readings. The readings will also show up on the test. Lectures are long and packed with info. Additionally, tests are tough and don't have many questions. Your whole grade comes down to five exams, no other work given. Don't recommend.
If you show up you will be fine. He is really funny and his lectures are actually very engaging. 5 tests that are very manageable. Lots of reading but you can just skim through and get main ideas. Lots of extra credit opportunity.
He gives 4 textbooks, and his exams felt like trivia; if you didn't know the smallest detail from the reading, then you won't succeed. His lectures are engaging and sometimes funny. He says he offers extra credit, but at the end of the semester, he told us that each extra credit point we earned would only count for .2 of a point, so it didn't help.
I did not go to class a lot, but i did study A LOT! and tbh that didn't matter. His test are so specific and the only grades are the exams. I got top in history my junior and senior year of highschool, but this is just trivia. And extra credit does not help. I did bad on one test and it brought my grade down dramatically.
My first C ever in a history pre req course and i atteneded almost every class and lots of SI . he makes the exams SO difficult for no reason and its the only grades in the class prepare to do so much work and reading. if you dont remeber a little detail from the readinds you will miss multiple questions on the exams
