Professor Kaiserman is a strict and very picky with his essays. However, he is an enjoyable professor in class. He taught me a lot about English and really pushed me to do my best. Because of him, my writing has improved by far. I cannot thank him enough! :)
He's a really nice guy and very enjoyable in class, but it's a very difficult course. If you take this class be prepared to work your butt off and expect him to be rather picky when he grades. He's very informative and a great teacher though, but it's definitely not an easy A.
I took Mr. Kaiserman for freshman year, this a wake up call. I got an F on my first essay. I went to him, asked what I needed to fix it and he told me. By the end, I knew how to do write an essay & received an A in the course. After his class, I have received A's in all my ENG classes. Work hard and you WILL know how to write an A paper by the end.
Mr. Kaiserman is a tough teacher, but a good one. He is picky on essays, but will prepare you for future English classes. When I took him freshman year, I had a very hard time. Slowly but surely, after every essay, I went to him and asked what I could do in order to make my essays improve and he told me. By the end,I received an A in his class.
Takes awhile to get used to his style, I got a B- on the first essay even though I usually excel in English classes. It is not impossible to get an A, just do all your readings and dont mess up on the quizzes. Not very clear with what he wants on essays and what is on his quizzes.
Good instructor. Expects a lot from you, but you learn more because of it. He is clear, but you need to pay attention. Follow directions and you'll do fine.
Really prepares you for ENGL 101. I learned a lot. Kind of funny, but you need to do the work.
Professor Kaiserman makes you work hard for your grade, but he is extremely helpful and is always there for you during office hours. He also offers quite a bit of extra credit so take advantage of that. He has a good sense of humor and is a very likable person! Just pay attention, do all the assignments, and participate in class!
There are two papers, one group project, two tests (midterm and final), and DAILY homework. He does offer a ton of extra credit though! He is a good professor and I honestly learned a lot in this class. Kaiserman is a very intelligent and funny professor and I would totally take him again.
If you want an A, take advantage of the extra credit from the start! He's a tough grader, but his feedback is great and it'll help you be a better writer.
Great teacher, pretty funny. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT. He gives really good feedback on all your essays, if you put in the work you will get better at writing. The way he does your midterm and final is an in-class essay that he gives you 20 minutes afterwards to revise - helps your grade if you fix them up.
If you wish to succeed in any of his classes, I can't stress enough the importance of focusing on the authors' style and technique when writing essays. It's challenging, but once you get it, you'll be a better writer. Also, if you don't study HARD for the midterm & final, you will not get an A.
I enjoyed the class very much. He changed the way I read and write about literature.
His HUM class was really helpful when I transferred to a four year school. He's not like some other COC professors.
The midterm's not so tough provided you can remember what you've read. Go to office hours! Super super helpful. He really wants to help!
If you try hard, you will do well and your writing will get better. Go to offie hours. Super helpful.
Lectures are based on the reading: homework is reading, so your lectures will be based on what you read. Tests are also based off the reading. A couple of chances for extra credit. He will work with you to help you pass the class.
I learned alot in prof. Kaiserman's class. He gives you a lot of feedback but it really helps you improve your papers.
Great professor! Helps students, answers questions, and is super funny. Deadlines and attendance is super important, and his lectures help with the papers. He offers a lot of extra credit, you just have to go to it.
Great instructor! I learned the process of writing. He is very helpful. I would definitely take him again.
This Professor Kaiserman was a cool guy. Make sure that you do all of the assignment that he gives you. He makes you type and print out your homework and if you just write it he won't accept it. Give out 4 essays total but they are fairly easy.
A great, funny dude. His lectures are informative and I never once lost interest. Well informed about the current literature scene. He cares about his students and will really help you if you reach out to him.
Tells jokes in class to keep it interesting. Unlike hs he actually reads ur papers.
Once I learned that you had to do the reading for this class, it became one of my favorites.
Great class! Great teacher who wants his students to pass. Do the work and pay attention and should do great!
A great professor. You will definitely improve your writing with him. You can tell he truly cares about his students. Do ALL the homework and you will past. He is willing to help as much as you need.
Great professor, yet he is an extremely hard grader. You will not pass if you don't do the readings! Lectures are very interesting if humanities interests you and he is pretty funny at times. Take advantage of ALL extra credit even if you don't think you'll need it. Daily homework is assigned and must be printed for credit.
He is pretty cool, except his electronic policy. Readings are mandatory to pass but homework isn't too bad if you explain yourself well. The two tests are aren't too bad if you do the homework, but the essays are graded pretty hard.
pretty difficult, but you will learn a lot from him.
Nice guy. I dont really like writing but he makes it ok.
he is very tough on grading papers. Very organized and likes to joke around with the class... If you keep up with the homework and do the readings you should be fine, gives a lot of work and expects you to put your time and effort into it.
He's kinda funny. Does invention exercises to help you with the papers. Good criticism on essays. Not an easy grader and expects quality analysis. If you get B's on the essays, but do well on the rest of the work and do some extra credit you can get an A.
If u are looking to take an easy class for G..E. Credit, then dont take him. He makes you work , many reading assignments that are due every class, some material can be challenging but workable... if you dont read the books you dont stand a chance of passing. He himself is a good professor that knows his material and can teach it.
The subject itself is difficult with a lot of information. Kaiserman's class requires attendance because he goes over every assignment and makes your job a bit easier. There are two papers, more of a dialogue and option of a rap. Lots of reading, but the reading is interesting. Midterm and final are similar to the hw questions and then one essay ?
Kaiserman is a great teacher, but on a personal level is a dry and rude person. He grades very fairly, and lays out the criteria and work for everyone equally. Yet, he tends to be very rude, dropping demeaning comments when someone gives a wrong answer or is only partially right. This made coming to class every week very hard and discouraged me
Before I went to CSUN, I had Kaiserman for English 91. I bombed he first paper but he was so helpful after that. I really got better at English because of his class.
Well, there's a lot of reading, particularly up front but the ideas in the class are really interesting. The second half of the film has more films.
I took Kaiserman's 101 last semester. I'm not that into writing, but he's a funny prof so it's not as bad as I thought it would be. He's got clear standards, you just have to pay attention to the directions.
He gives you real feedback on the essays. If you do the drafts and follow direcations you should be good. Papers take more work than HS but thats because its college. Jokes around in class and is sometimes funny.
On top of his stuff and cracks jokes. There are four papers and an in-class final. As long as you put effort into the work you should be fine.
He might be better at teaching English 103, because his English 101 class is difficult. He adds an extra paper to the course because he feels it will help us get better at writing. Where my writing has slightly improved, my stress levels, for trying to please his demands, are way too high.
Homework for every class. Easy homework assignments, but takes time to do. Respect the teacher. He is a tough grader. You will improve your writing but your grade doesn't guarantee an A. In his class you will only receive an "A" if you write "A" papers. Take him if you like to write. If you're not a writer, do not take him.
He's funny but a tough grader. I thought his class was fun, but his assignments made people extremely stressed. Personally, I wouldn't take the class since there is alot of homework and the papers require alot of commitment. I've improved but my stress for that class was crazy.
I thought the class was challenging, but not impossible. I got Bs on most of the papers, and still managed to get an A because of the homework and other assignments. About 10% of your grade is an easy A. If you do the GLAs and see the TLC tutors it's an automatic 100% just for doing it. Tons of extra credit available too.
I've never recieved a "C" in English. But apparently in this class I did. I did the assignments, tried my hardest with the papers and did extra credit. STILL, I got a C. I don't recommend since he's papers require ALOT of time. I agree that he was funny (at times), but at the cost of being condescending. He's just honestly a tough grader.
He gives good feedback and the paper assignments all fit together really well. The class is really organized. I felt like my writing improved this semester.
I took Humanities in HS, but that class was a joke. His class makes you read a lot more than I'm used to, but it makes you think about stuff in a new way. Two papers, two exams, and easy homework. Exams are relatively easy, but the essays take some work.
I wasn't always the best student in this class, but Kaiserman reached out to me and really helped to make sure that I got through.
I had a difficult time writing many of his papers. They had a clear grading criteria, however I always had a difficult time getting at least a B on them. The homework requires work and time but it really isn't that hard. I just found his grading criteria to be difficult to meet.
I took US Lit 2 with him a few years ago. Cool readings and really passionate about the subject.
Nice guy. Go to office hours. So helpful when you do. He WILL totally help you write your paper.
Tons and tons of reading. Lecture heavy so if you miss a class, you'll be clueless. Tense classroom energy. Most of the students dropped the class. Lots of forced, uncomfortable group activities.
This professor changed my life. I'm just an average student. I normally am afraid to raise my hand an engage in the conversation, but I always was happy that I did in this class. I'll never forget this professor, he's amazing and offers tons of insight to current events and writing in general. Want to learn something? TAKE. THIS. CLASS.
Many people dropped him and it felt weird to be in the class. It was just very tense. I wasn't the best writer, but I wanted to improve. After the first couple of papers I realized he expects everyone to be a perfect writer. Just drop him, if you're not writer.
This was one of the best classes I've ever taken! TAKE HIM! The class is very simple with four papers, a clear rubric and a lot of help offered. As long as you do all the work, you'll for sure pass. The lectures were enjoyable. I'll definitely miss this class.
Cares about his students and helps you in office hours. He wants you to do well and cares about you.
Prof. Kaiserman is a very fair professor. If you want a professor who holds you accountable, this is the way to go. He also uses his class website for everything, which is very useful if you forget what the homework is or if you are absent.
He helped my writing skills to improve I feel like I improved a lot within this course. He cares about his students and your feedback about the class. Great class!
Dr. Kaiserman is such an inspirational professor. He truly cares for his students and wants them to succeed. You are going to have to do a lot of work in his class but these are assignments designed for you to receive a good grade. His papers have a clear grading criterial and you are more than welcome to go to his office hours to talk about papers
This class is incredibly interesting and conversations within the class were riveting. There is a lot of reading required in order to do the homework but it is very interesting. Watched films in class so the lectures were not purely him lecturing. If you do your work you will 100% get an A.
Professor Kaiserman cares about his students and that shows through his teaching. If you need help, he is there to guide you through whatever it may be. This class was primarily focused on readings, lecture, and watching/analyzing films. As long as you put in the effort and stay on top of your work, there is no reason why you should not get an A.
Kaiserman is an overall nice guy, but a terrible professor. I took two of his online classes in the middle of the pandemic and every day was full of stress. The work load is insanely heavy even if you plan ahead and he grades papers harshly. His advice on papers are rude and he expects perfection. First time I ever got a C in an English class.
Prof. Kaiserman is really available to help students. The reading was interesting. Three papers and quizzes you can take a second time.
Taking ENGL103 - Critical Read/Write/Thinking in spring 2021. Professor Kaiserman is nice. However, His course seems to lack withdrawal from political opinionated material. Seems to be ready to share his own opinion which comes across as unprofessional.
Professor Kaiserman's class is difficult, but worth it. Don't expect an easy A. Don't expect him to be like other professors. He takes writing seriously and wants his students to succeed. If you're looking to be challenged, take Kaisermans class. If you want a professor who cares, take his class. Meet with him and let him help you!
If you are an English major, I highly recommend his class. He will definitely push you in the right direction for upper-division classes. The difficult aspect about his class, is that he incorporates A LOT of literary theory and criticism into the reading. He definitely expects students to work hard and think critically about the course materials.
I shouldve headed everyone' warning about the difficulty level of this class. I'm an English major, i've taken dozens of courses and never struggled this much. First off, this class has so much reading sometimes 200 pages in 1w. Super personal specific standards on essay formats. Wants 4+ responses per discussion board. 3+ essays a class.
bruh this guy is so insanely work heavy. doesnt even care that it is a pandemic and overloads his students. has the harshest grading criteria and literally expects professional PHD level papers to get anything higher than a B
I have never taken such a difficult English class in my life. I do not recommend unless you can do PHD level papers and have 8+ hours of time on your hands to study and do homework. I wish I listened to others before coming into the class. He also brings his political opinions in every lecture which doesn't make sense in a Lit. class. Take World I
Ive never had a professor like this, truly never explains what he wants done, he just throws stuff out there. Expects you to take quizzes on reads and bases the answers off his opinion. I had upwards to 8 assignments the first week of class, hes very harsh at grading too, request too much work, I would truly recommend for no one to take his class
I have gone to COC since 2013 and have had many teachers from Stats and Biology to early Childhood Education and Psychology and I have never had a teacher quite this difficult. I'm not sure if it is just the online environment, but the expectations for writing assignments and discussions for a community college English course is a bit much.
DO NOT take this professor! I do not know where all the 5 star reviews come from but this is a real warning to anyone who is considering. He is the only teacher for these classes but you can take a the class off campus at another community College and get the credit transferred. Even that is better than having to deal with this nonsense.
Professor Kaiserman's class isn't the easiest, but it'll help you to improve your writing! He truly cares about his students and helping them hone their skills. As long as you follow the directions of his assignments/papers, you will pass. Take this class if you want to improve as a writer and are willing to put in time and effort needed to do so.
Better be good at essays. Better enjoy the amount of work he demands. He's with 1 of 4 classes? Drop 2. Fair warning he is a bit of a hypocrite. His class is "not for someone who cant handle an opinion". But he takes offense to an opinion if he doesn't like your opinion (Seen first hand in class.). Doubtful? The recent ratings support this.
Professor Kaiserman's class is by no means easy, but if you want to challenge yourself and improve your writing, his class is for you. Professor Kaiserman cares about the success of his students and gives very helpful feedback on papers to guide you in the right direction. His class will make you a better writer!
would not take the class again, but a decent experience.
He's full of contradictions & misspellings & can't even follow his own syllabus or grading criteria Does not support his students or care about them. Has a PHD & thinks he's better than you in ALL aspects. Horrible communication! If you challenge him, he will retaliate against you by lowering your grade and making it impossible to recover. ARROGANT
Second time taking Kaiserman. Lots of reading and work, sometimes boring and laborious reading content, but overall it is a good class if you are willing to put in the work. Keep in mind I HATE early Am Lit but I think Kaiserman is a good, passionate, but difficult teacher. His five-week Multicultural English class is more fun. Take it if you can.
Professor Kaiserman clearly cares about this subject. The class is very structured and if you struggle to meet due dates this class is not for you. The best part about this class is its essay grading system, complete his contract you will get an 85% on the essay. This class is super straight forward, I highly suggest taking it!
I have taken over 30 classes, this was by far the worst teacher I have ever had in my entire Academic career. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR and pick a different teacher. BEWARE --- AWFUL TEACHER - AWFUL PERSON
You should consider finding a different teacher. This guy is excessively concerned in a negative way and really shouldn't be teaching. Take his class if you are looking for the worst experience.
Read all of the '1' rated Feedbacks. I should have taken them seriously. Awful class, Awful teacher, worse than awful. Stay away and take British or World Literature.
This teacher should be a mall cop - THERE'S NO WAY HE SHOULD BE EMPLOYED AS A TEACHER if you are reading this, avoid his class at all costs. The negatives greatly outweigh any positives.
Do not take this class!! Teacher grades WAY too harshly and gives many assignments.
*I took English 272 "The Bible as Literature", but it wasn't an option above* Prof. Kaiserman is a nice guy, he is very particular in the criteria he wants you to meet in order to do well. I would consider him to be a harsh grader. He proctors EVERYTHING. 2 discussion boards a week, 1 lecture/quiz each week, 2 papers, LOTS OF READING!
First day of Winter session and already have insanely high stress. The amount of reading given just within the first week is insane, especially since this class is an online 5-week course. This class is not 100% online as stated... there is a mandatory viewing of a movie on zoom.
He makes you sign contracts, watches you while you write essays through chrome devices he uses because he is paranoid that you are cheating! He will have you take pictures of your I.D and will have you do this every time you take a quiz. Then he simply blocks and deletes all canvas content without notice. take another professor
This professor was awful to me the first week of the semester. I dropped his class within 3 days. There is an excessive amount of reading just for one week. He suspected me of cheating (ps I wasn't) and sent me rude emails. I would not recommend this class to anyone, especially with a full schedule. Worst teacher I've ever come across.
I dropped out of this class on the deadline because it was a workload. He is complex and excessive with all material homework, quizzes and lectures. There will be a lecture of 16 pages that he wants you to know and you can't even have notes with the quiz. The discussion question are very complex and could be simpler for students to reply about .
enormous workload, tough grader
Would not reccomend this class at all. I have taken easier 4&5 credit classes at COC than this class. Unfortunately this class is a requirement and it is my last semester before transfer. This class has been nothing but headache, I have never been this stressed for a class before. The professor is a harsh grader and gives lots of work!! Don't take!
I wish I could go back in time and take this class with a different professor. Listen to all the ratings as they are true. High stress class!!! Worst COC professor and every professor has been amazing so far!
just don't take him.
No.. just no. Save yourself and don't take this class. I don't need to say more. He's very specific and strict, he allows no room for creativity in writing. Please please please don't take this class.
Professor Kaiserman's class was awful. Huge workload, very rigid structure, and no room for creativity. He often assumed the worst in students and was quick to accuse of cheating. The course felt more like a test of endurance than a learning experience. Not a supportive or encouraging environment.
Save yourself
You ever wanted to meet Helen Keller? Take this class if you do not want to feel seen or heard. He assumes the worse of his students and does not allow creativity in your writing. He is very nit-picky, is never pleased with anything, and is a harsh grader overall. You will have to do a lot of homework and he assigns like you do not have a life.
Genuinely save yourself. This man is one of the harshest graders I have ever encountered and allows no room for creativity in your papers. His workload is actually insane and will take up a majority of your time. He is also horrible at responding to emails (he barely answered mine). Please save yourself and don't even THINK about taking his class.
Dr. Kaiserman puts a lot of effort into organizing this course. If you follow the schedule he provides you should have no trouble passing. I missed about five assignments, and did not do great on the tests, and passed with a B. More importantly, the material he teaches is engaging. If it is new to you, it can be uplifting and life altering.
This professor cares about students in a tough love kind of way. He has a lot of expectations and they are doable if you put in the time daily. FYI- You have to print out the readings, essays, assignments before class. His delivery and instruction could improve, however, if you have to take his class, you will be fine as long as you do the work.
