Great professor. Sometimes his lectures can be tedious, but he is very interested in cognitive psychology and is always willing to help his students. Tests are moderately hard and require lots of studying, but they are only based on lectures, so no textbook needed. He also gives lots of options for easy marks and bonus marks.
Dr. Krawitz has done a great job running this seminar course - he encourages us to be engaged and participate in lectures, and is always available to clarify meaning when you are confused. He does take a long time to get marks back though...
Extremely clear in class. His tests are completely fair, and easy for the most part. You can tell he really loves cognitive psych.
He started out awkward and uncomfortable but quickly started cracking cheesy jokes. Teaches pretty heavily from the text but his slides are good and the coglabs are easy marks. His tests are fair, there are no surprises but they're pretty thorough. You can tell he's super passionate about Cognitive.
Awesome, awesome, awesome! Nothing better than a prof who really loves their subject. If you're not that into cognitive psych, you certainly will be after taking his class. Definitely recommended.
Thought I wouldn't like this class, but turned out to be one of my favorite classes and professors to date! Material is pretty straight forward, exams are fair and easy if you study hard, work load is very manageable. CogLabs are super quick and easy marks, and Prof Krawitz is a super nice guy!
Adam is a wonderful human, a great teacher, and a brilliant mind. We are very lucky to have him at UVic. If you get the chance, take a class with him!
He is very nice and means well but is not very animated. He doesn't explain things very well and isn't very inspiring. He uses iclickers (attendance) and does most of his stuff out of the textbook. Okay Prof
I did not enjoy this class at all. He gave us our first exam marks back over 6 weeks after we wrote it AND AFTER the course drop date. He lectures verbatim from the slides but you still need to go to class because of the attendance mark. Exams were difficult. Maybe he was having an off semester provided the other testimonies below...
I found this class to be hypocritical...the class materials and how we were tested...too much hypocrisy...like if we are learning about anxiety, may be it should avoid making the students feel that way...definitely not an easy course, he gave back our first midterm marks 6 weeks late, he never even responded to emails...
Really nice guy, but slides are basically slightly extended from the textbook. His tests were pretty difficult but he was great at teaching the topics.
Extremely knowledgeable, and helpful prof. iClickers (yes, they are unfortunate and expensive inventions)make attending classes a must, but he made an hour and a half lecture an interesting, thoughtful and helpful one. Explains concepts very clearly, much more competent at the teaching part of being a professor than many others. Recommended!!
Friendly and helpful, makes material interesting/easy to understand.
Great prof that loves what he does and is super clear in what he teaches. Grading system is made in your favour. Iclickers, coglabs, and 1 short review paper are all easy marks. The midterms are straight forward and fairly easy if you pay attention in class or read the textbook. Highly recommend!
I'm not sure why I found him so likeable. Perhaps he is somewhat quirky and an almost shy/hesitant sense of humour. He appeared to know the content and studies in great detail (beyond what was provided in class). So any attempts to probe further were entertained. The classes were interesting and went by fast for their length. Recommend as a prof!
Love this class. Exactly what I wanted. If you read the material and attend class I would argue you could easily get a B+ if not an A-. He is a great prof who explains everything very well, and is very approachable after class or during office hours. Our tests marks were returned with in a week or two at most, and emails responded next day.
This class was the most boring class I have ever taken. Reads straight off his slides and when he doesn't its usually some repetitive information that doesn't matter that could have been said in under 3 seconds. Shame, this class could have been interesting if he made his own material instead of copying and pasting the whole text. Lazy professor.
Highly recommend! Dr. Krawitz's lectures are structured, clear, slow paced and he repeats himself which is great for note taking in this class. Multiple choice and written on exams, cog labs are always tested on these! Such a great prof, and makes the 1hr and 20minutes go by so quickly! A really great prof, loved his class!
Absolutely wonderful guy. Extremely passionate about what he teaches and you can tell he is extremely bright. I rarely rate a prof on this site but I enjoyed him so much that I thought I would this time. Tests are fair, textbook isn't necessary as he covers everything in detail in class. Take a class with him if you can!
Adam was awesome! He is super quirky and funny; I don't think I've ever enjoyed a profs comments during lecture quite as much. Kinda cute too, in a nerdy/awkward way. Textbook is a little unneccesary. Coglabs are easy marks, unless you don't do them on time. Lectures with examples straight out of the text, which is a little lazy.
Incredible prof. Genuinely helpful in class or outside. Very easy going. Exams are easy for a third year course. Written assignment is pretty much free marks (unlike biology assignments). take this course and tell him I said thanks!
This was a great course. The content was interesting and easy to digest. Lectures were seminars and involved a lot of conversation. Dr. Krawitz is knowledgeable and respectful of everyone's opinion. Even at 8:30am I looked forward to it. One of my favourite courses without question. Only negative aspect was that marking was really slow.
Dr. Krawitz is a nice guy, a good prof, easy to understand and straight forward. Problem is he is slower than a sloth when it comes to giving you marks. For the first 2 and a half months we had zero marks and no feedback whatsoever. As of today we still have no final marks at all. He is basically impossible to reach too, emailing him does not work.
Dr Krawitz is a really nice, approachable guy (which is why I chose to take a seminar class with him), but his lack of organization is absolutely infuriating. For the entire semester we didn't receive ANY marks! (Seriously, not 1). It is now well into the next semester and they still haven't been posted -- big time headache!
Still no grades!!! We only got back proposal and forum posts. No one has a clue if they passed this sucker-which is why the class is hilarious. It is quite possible that this is less of a seminar, and more of a sick experiment. The marking guidelines are ambiguous at best. He has a doctorate, but doesn't understand how email works. Not worth it.
Overall good prof, teaches harder course so expect harder tests. Is never unfair in his marking and will always take time to answer questions.
I enjoyed his lectures. Amusing sense of humour that made the 80 minute class bearable. If you don't understand something he will explain it every way possible to ensure you do. Tests are fair and definitely on the easy side. He's a great prof. Definitely recommend.
The lectures are well related to the textbook material, but the tests make you think a lot "between the lines" to prove you really understand the concepts instead of just memorizing facts.
Really interesting topics covered in this class! For the tests you are forced to apply your knowledge in a way that create challenging questions. If you listen to the lectures and study hard it's manageable.
Interesting lectures. Found the labs difficult as some of the information need to complete them were in the lecture slides that wouldn't be posted until after the lab was due, as well as often the material also wouldn't be covered in the textbook. Exams are hit and miss, often given situational questions that weren't discussed in class or text.
Krawitz, although very kind and humble, is one of the most boring professors I've had. Originally looking at other Rate My Professor comments on him made me think this was going to be a fun class. Unfortunately I spent most of the classes doing other homework, listening to podcasts, and reading peer-reviewed articles on the class information.
Krawitz is very knowledgeable about what he teaches and wants his students to learn. He uses iClicker and research participation for bonus marks, so grades aren't weighted heavily on exams. Labs can be difficult because they are often due before covering the material in class. Tests are fair and noncumulative. Attend class and you'll be fine.
I didn't like his classes. He talks a lot and makes the lecture really boring. His exams are extremely difficult. The book is useless and his slides contain little to no information. Get ready to write every single word he say in order to pass his class.
I thought Adam did a pretty good job of making the lectures bearable, especially considering it was an 830 am class and some of the content was fairly dry. His tests centre mostly on lecture slides and if he sees a question was poorly answered by all he will make it for bonus. Make sure to study the graphs/images in his slides for the exams.
his tests are 100% the exact same as his lecture slides. Great GPA booster
Found 251 super boring and his tests a bit challenging, but really enjoying his 351A class! Notes appear more detailed and the exams are easy if you put in the effort! The textbook doesn't seem too necessary though. Overall it seems like he cares that his students succeed in his classes. He also does iclickr and research credit which is nice!
Tests are replicas of lectures. I studied from the lectures and didn't show up to class (or buy the text book) and I aced the tests. Questions in tests are straightforward. The only thing you need to buy is the online code (worth 15% of overall mark)
Adam is a gem. His tests are super fair and straight from the lecture slides. You need to supplement his slides with in-class notes though, so showing up is pretty well mandatory to do well (as it should be...).Overall, he will go out of his way to help you if you show that you want to succeed. Great prof
Dr. Krawitz was a great all-around prof! His lectures are mandatory as there are iClickers daily and while his slides are posted online, you have to take notes on them in order to understand the majority of them. The "lab" (online quizzes) were great mark boosters and helped with understanding. Textbook is useless, just buy Sylvius code.
wanna do everything with him, then i can get an average A+ on my undergrad transcripts.
Made an otherwise difficult course quite easy. Provided a textbook which I only used for further explanation. His tests are based directly off the slides with minimal critical thinking. If you study hard off the slides and understand the concepts you will do very well. Taking notes in class is key. He provides quizzes and bonus research points
I didn't want to take 251, but it's required for my program. Came away feeling great that I decently well in a course that isn't my cup of tea, and feeling inspired to learn more. Krawitz is clear, excited about the material, and just generally a lovely, gently, kind man.
I enjoyed my semester with Adam however I feel that the course could have been improved. He did the best with what he had which makes him a good prof
I really liked Krawitz!I was a bit nervous going into mind&brain but he's really great at his explanations/makes things very clear. If you attend lectures you'll know what he wants you to study for on the exams, which are super fair. Enjoyed the lectures A LOT (but I'm a psyc major so could be biased). DON'T BOTHER BUYING THE TEXTBOOK (not used)
Prof. Krawitz is very knowledgeable and is very clear in explaining a rather difficult area of psych. A lot of the things you need to know are not on the slides, so attending class is highly necessary. No textbook for this class though, as all of the readings he posts are online PDFs (and are relatively short in length, which is nice).
This class is easy if you pay attention in lecture, the 3 midterms are all lecture based don't bother reading the textbook for them. You do however need the textbook for the weekly online quizzes, they are easy as the answers are in the text or in the lecture slides. Don't ask questions unless its general, if its specific he doesn't know the answer
Solid dude, knows his stuff. Mind and brain is reasonably easy if youre interested in the subject matter, but not transcendental. If youre not into cog & neuro sciences then its gonna be a pretty dry semester.
He was very kind and always available after class. He spoke a bit fast sometimes but was in general very good. He used good visuals in class. He was over all a good teacher in my opinion and graded pretty fairly.
I personally did not understand the way he spoke in class regarding his class. He was a great teacher though. I wouldn't take him again just because the way he lectures doesn't work for me personally but he was very caring and helped me outside of class. I have to say he is a solid choice if you can take notes fast.
Dr Krawitz is a kind professor who is willing to help students both inside and outside of class. He was not great at answering specific questions asked by students, but his exams are fair, and his lectures are clear.
I have never loved a class more just because of the prof! Krawitz is exceptionally good at using diagrams, graphs etc to engage you and explain the content in a fun way. The tests are all based off the slides so you definitely dont need the text book but it helps for assignments.
Adam made psyc 251 an awesome class. He is very knowledgeable and explains the lecture material in a very clear and easy to understand way. He gives good examples and is very organized. Exams are a huge portion of your grade and they are all based off of his lectures. His exams are fair if you study enough for them. Amazing prof!
Most favourite psyc prof I've ever had! Very straightforward with class expectations and marking tests. Enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and an overall interesting person to listen to in lecture. He relies more on his lecture slides than the textbook, so definitely attend class if you want to do well on the test!
Krawitz is my all-time favourite professor at UVic. He is caring and insightful, and always wiling to help if you have extra questions. He's the only professor that I've ever had to show their true personality. He is able to mix in his own interests, with the course material and still make it extremely interesting. 10/10 would recommend!
Krawitz is the best prof ever! Such great lectures and very clear, fair exams. If you study you will get a good grade in this class.
Adam really is a caring prof. I took this class for the easy A+ and Adam delivered. Lectures are a bit dry (and unnecessary to go to unless you're like me and want those clicker marks), especially if you've already taken 351B and D. I like that Adam added in the neural network section - something I hadn't learned before. Overall, easy easy class.
Adam was one of my favorite profs this sem. He's caring, funny, and his exams are easy and fair as long as you study. Going to the lecture isn't necessary (as his exams are all based off the lecture slides which he posts) but I found myself going bc he was just that awesome! Didn't use the textbook much, just for clarification and labs.
All test questions directly from slides, with the slides being extremely clear and intuitive. Krawitz is also really funny and his classes are enjoyable (sometimes can be boring). Great Prof!
Great engaging prof, seems like a genuinely kind person which reflects in lectures somehow. Very good at explaining concepts. Not an easy class if you don't get neuropsyc stuff, but tests are fair and coursespace quizzes/labs will help with learning. Great prof!
Krawitz is amazing, organizes his slides in a super intuitive manner, uses actual experimental research to explain concepts and explains things incredibly concisely and clear. Tests entirely from his slides, and 15% is free marks if you show up to most classes and do the online homework on time.
Adam is a wonderful prof, hands down. He puts all the slides and information up on CourseSpaces, so even if you miss class, you have what was discussed right on your computer. The way he explains things, especially such a broad topic such as neuroanatomy, makes sense, and he is always available to ask questions and is approachable and friendly.
Dr. Krawitz was an awesome prof to have for this class, and he explained concepts at the perfect pace with a lot of creative, interesting, and engaging examples. What makes Dr. Krawitz a real gem however is that he is a genuinely great human being who sincerely cares about his students and how they do in his class.
Dr Krawitz is clearly passionate about the subject. He explains concepts using terms that students would understand and always welcomes questions (even though he is not always able to answer them). Slides are well-organized; exams are fair. There was one final assignment but I found it very engaging since I got to choose the concept to discuss.
Professor Krawitz is great, hes obviously very smart and knows so much about what he teaches but he really makes it clear what hes talking about. You can survive without going to lectures but id highly recommend it, everything he tests on comes from lectures. Definitely take a class with him if you have the opportunity!
Extremely academic man, and the course is not psychology at all it is 100% neurobiology so prepare for that. He is unable to take apart challenging concepts adequately to make them understandable. If you get bio youll do great, otherwise buckle down and go to office hours. He is extremely accomodating for office hours.
Krawitz never ceases to disappoint. Engaging lectures, very straightforward with his testing and expectations, helpful outside of class. Plus he makes a lot of good dad jokes. Would highly highly HIGHLY recommend.
Adam is my favourite prof at UVIC! His passion for cognitive psychology really shines through when he talks about perception and high-level cognitive processes. Some of the concepts in 351A are a bit abstract, but he guides you through with plenty of examples and simplified schematics. Cannot recommend him enough! He deserves more recognition.
AK is the best and so highly under-rated. He is passionate, smart and cares about his students. His exams are okay as long as you have attended class/read the slides. Gives iclicker bonus, online quizzes (easy), and its not necessary to read the textbook (so not too hard to get a decent mark). He also makes dad jokes and is so awkward and adorable.
I thought Adam was a great prof! The exams and concepts are not always easy and you have to memorize a lot of little studies. I took 251 and didnt care much for it but I loved 351A and learnt a ton from it too! Attending class is very important.
Adam is such a wonderful and adorable! big dad energy, just overall awkward and adorable. His tests are fair, and come straight from his lecture slides. The course is well organized, and I actually enjoyed myself while learning many new concepts. The mindtap activities made things more engaging. overall this was one of my favorite classes this sem!
Hes a really knowledgeable prof who clearly cares. Very easy to talk to and his office hours are supremely helpful! You dont really need to read the text, I didnt read the last half and was fine. He tests almost exclusively from his slides and homework questions, very clear on expectations
Best prof I have ever had, highly recommend!! The exams were short answer and very fair - from the online studies/activities we did and lectures. There was a paper that was marked super fairly as well. Krawitz is literally the best, make sure you take at least one class with him!!
Adam is the best professor I have had at Uvic to date. His exams are very reflective of his lectures, making it not necessary to read the textbook. His passion comes out in every lecture, which are engaging and interactive. Amazing professor and human, totally recommend!!!!!
I found Dr. Krawitz's lectures extremely interesting, I always looked forward to his class. This was partly due to the course content, but his clear and engaging teaching style was what really made the class enjoyable. His tests were fair and didn't test on facts that were only from the text. One of the best profs I have had so far.
Dr. Krawitz is one of my favourite professors. This course was not easy by any means but his youtube videos (due to the pandemic) helped me immensely. I deeply regret not asking him if I could have recorded his lectures from the start because it truly helped me. I ended up preferring his online lectures over in class lectures!
Dr. Krawitz is a super amazing professor. You can tell he truly cares about his students and them doing well. His labs are definitely harder than the exams but you can find the answers on quizlet. His exams are directly from the lecture notes. If you attend class and study the lecture notes you are sure to do well.
Very clear and easy to understand lectures. Extremely caring and respectful! Labs are a great aid to understanding concepts! Tests on slides, but also understanding. Pure memorization will not get you an A or A+.
Such a great prof! He's super helpful and makes it super clear how you'll be graded in the class. Definitely take his classes if you get the chance.
Very good and receptive Prof. He is one of the best lecturers I have had. He doesn't purely read off slides and goes into just the right enough of detail without overwhelming you. Class load is fair and easily do-able. 10/10 would take one if his classes again.
I loved Krawitz. While I didnt do too well in the class because neuroanatomy is not my area of expertise, I absolutely loved his teaching and his lecture style. He very obviously wanted his students to succeed and made each lecture very engaging and interesting. The online labs were also great to help consolidate learning before exams
I've heard good things about Krawitz and I know he cares about his students but this class was SO BORING. I was not engaged and felt like he just talked over his slides. He had technical difficulties a lot and would just disappear on zoom. I wish I liked him and this class more :/
Krawitz is SO caring and kind. He is so sweet and tries his best to make his lectures super interesting. He is so clear about test and homework criteria and clearly cares about his students. You will never be surprised by what is on the test. As long as you take comprehensive notes on what is in class, you will do extremely well.
I took this class back in spring 2020 and was very happy with the course overall. Tests were fair, lectures were good, although 80 minutes can be a little too long. When things moved online Adam was very accommodating and kept his lecture quality high. 100% would recommend.
Adam is everything a professor should be. No tricky wording, no unnecessary complications. He keeps his lectures interesting and informative, and tests are exactly what you would expect. Made PSYC 251 a breeze compared to other lecturers (read: Iris Gordon).
Sincerely the best professor I've had. His tests are very very fair and manage to actually make me learn / apply the knowledge I've learned in his classes. All of the tests and assignments are completely dependent on his lectures, so attend those. Pay attention, take some notes and take the time to understand his slides!
Amazing, caring, and accommodating prof. Presents material in a clear and easy to understand manner. Ample time for straightforward tests. Weekly quizzes that are not too difficult or time consuming. If you have the choice for profs I would always choose him!! He says textbook is mandatory but you could get by without it
Easily my favourite prof this semester. His lectures are easy to follow and interesting. He also has small lab assignments so we can apply the concepts and it really helps with understanding the material for the tests. His tests are fair and as long as you take notes in class and pay attention you'll do well
Dr. Krawitz is a gifted professor, and a person who proves to his students that he cares through his humility as a scientist (often admitting the things he doesn't know or lay claim to), while explaining things at a level that doesn't exaggerate his competencies. If you have the chance, take a class with him!
He is a great prof! However, we did not get any marks back until the day that marks were due. This means that even assignment due at the beginning of the semester were not graded until the end of the course, leaving the students completely unsure about their grades.
I was not looking forward to this class at the start of the term, but Dr. Krawitz was amazing. He makes a pretty difficult topic understandable and interesting, even at 8:30am. His class quickly became my favourite. He offers chances to gain extra credit and is always super friendly and helpful at office hours. Made me love neuropsych!!
Adam is absolutely fantastic. Super passionate and fun lectures, incredibly kind guy too. Had Recorded lectures but they quite often had technical difficulties, Don't rely on them. This is a very heavy class with lots of material to learn, I would suggest taking it with a light course load if possible
Adam is the sweetest prof ever! This is my second time taking a class with him, first time in person. His tests are no walk in the park, but if you study everything he talks about in class and have a good conceptual understanding of the material you will do well. I genuinely felt so comfortable and felt like I was in such a safe place in his class!
The course has alot of material to memorize but If you have to take PSYC 251 take it with Adam Krawitz. He is amazing at explaining concepts and very knowledgeable.
This is my second class with Dr. Krawitz, I think he's a very great teacher. If you're willing to put a good amount of work in you'll get a good grade! My experience in 251 and 351C was that we would only be tested on things that overlapped from the lecture and the textbook. If you have a question for him definitely go to office hours over email.
Overall Prof Krawitz was a good teacher, he was quite rigid in the way he wanted things done but he gives you lots of ways to up your grade (labs and participation marks) so if you show up, and listen to the lectures you will do pretty well. the exams were quite difficult, so that would be my only critique
Really fun, and intelligent guy. Very very very hard exams. He gives lots of Labs that can up ur grade in the class, but my God you'll have have to study at least 3 hours a day. But an amazing prof can make a not so fun class, bearable.
Adam Krawitz is a great prof who is super knowledgeable about what he's teaching. The book can provide a further understanding of the topics from class, but if you attend classes and study from the slides, you will be fine! A lot of ways to boost mark with labs, extra credit. Exams are based on lectures and very fair if you actually study/review!
Among the best professors in the Psyc department. It is possible to do well in this course if you put in the effort, and that is all I ever want from a professor. Thank you Dr. Krawitz for teaching an excellent course.
I really enjoy this professor's lectures and the way he teaches. I have had him in prior courses although I am taking PSYC 317 as an elective. I've never had such a hard time grasping content for his tests that it seems that he expects us to know how to connect the dots for all the topics. The class avg for the midterms have been horrible. Beware..
Very hard tester. If you dont have to take this class then dont. Its gonna hurt your GPA.
As a professor Adam is wonderful, he makes this really challenging topic engaging. As a course, there is no way around it, it is a lot of material and no matter how good the prof is it will always be a hard class. Adam provides opportunity for extra credit, and participation marks which provide a nice boost. Tests are heavily based on memorization.
Dr Krawitz was a really good lecturer. He makes the material seem less hard than it is. His tests are super fair and if you study the lecture notes well you'll do great! The "labs" each week are super easy too.
Prof Krawitz is a brilliant lecturer who knows how to break down the most complex topics into easily understandable explanations. Homework reflects exam formatting, and helps students understand topics at hand a lot better, thinking outside the material. Slides are great with visuals to help understand.
Took 317 as an elective and honestly is one of the harder electives I've had to take. Really gonna have to put in the hours of memorizing and applying concepts of the systems together. I love Professor Krawitz and I've taken many classes with him although the class average's for the midterms are so low... FYI lectures were somewhat dry but recorded
Tough midterms. Lots of application to different concepts.
If you get the chance, take a class with Dr. Krawitz!! He is an excellent lecturer who is very clearly passionate about what he teaches. Absolutely one of the best professors in the psyc department!!
professor Krawitz cares about the content and tries to teach it as fun and precise as possible. tests were worth 75% of final grade but multiple choice questions are fair (they do not try to trick you) - make sure you actually have a deep understanding of the content though. highly recommend him if you're a visual learner.
Such a great prof. Dr. Krawitz is the kindest, most passionate, and humble professor I have ever met. He provided very clear grading criteria, fair exams, and thorough lectures and managed to keep a room full of students engaged at 8:30 am. I am really looking forward to taking more upper-level courses with him in the future. Soooo awesome. :)
Took both 251 & 317 with Krawitz and believe him to be the best prof in the department. He doesn't take himself too seriously and explains some very complex ideas in very simple & accessible ways. If there weren't a 350 character limit, I could probably write a short novel on why it's worth the effort to take a class with Krawitz.
Kravitz is an amazing proffessor, very engaging in lectures and also very clear on what he wants as outcomes.
Dr. Krawitz is great. His lectures are clear, interesting, and engaging. The course is test-heavy and I found the exams to be hit-or-miss (85, then 60). Memorize the slides! Bonus points are a great addition to the course. Also, when the snowstorm hit and our final exam got cancelled, he moved it online instead of postponing it which I appreciated!
Professor Krawitz is a phenomenal teacher, he is clearly passionate about what he teaches. Lectures are always inspired, which can make the drier sections of lectures fly by very quickly. Krawitz is extremely clear about what you are expected to know for each exam, there is never any surprises. Best professor ever, I wish more prof's were like him.
I loved this prof so much, he was organized, clear, funny, and totally made me fall in love with cognitive psych. Lot's of exams and you have to buy textbook program access, but the course is designed well
Incredible prof! Cognitive Psyc. can be really complex but he makes it fun and interesting. The exams are hard with more statistical questions than I was expecting, but he provides a lot of information and study guides so there are no big surprises. Hard to get a hold of via email though. Big tip-do all the Cog Labs and review them for tests!
Adam is a great prof but avoid taking class as a GPA booster. Material is interesting but regardless of the work you put in to study, the test results won't back it up. Our (Fall 2023) TA was extremely inconsistent across her marking was nearly impossible to find a time to meet with. Tests didn't seem difficult but the averages were very low.
The best professor I have had at Uvic (4th year Bio/Psyc student). Tests off exactly what he teaches in lectures/slides. Textbook is just to support this. Very caring, accommodating, great speaker, overall just the best professor I have had. Go to class, take notes, make flashcards based off the slides and notes and you will ace the course.
One of my favourite psych profs. He sparked my interest for cognitive psych, I absolutely loved his class. He is engaging, and extremely knowledgeable. Tests really make you think, and test your knowledge
Awesome prof! Lectures are interesting and engaging. He gave options to gain extra credit which was helpful to compensate for lower exam grades. Overall a great prof, I would absolutely take another course with him.
MEMORIZE THE SLIDES!!! The textbook is useless for preparing for exams. Adam records his lectures, something I found very helpful when studying. Allowed SONA bonuses and faux 'labs' which helped boost my grade after poor test performance. This is a tough course with tough exams but Adam is a very friendly, entertaining prof.
Sensation and perception sounds cool but it's pretty boring content. Dr. Krawtiz makes it worth it though because he's so caring and passionate. The tests are harder than those in 251 but very doable and the short answer is marked very fairly.
pretty straight forward class. I enjoyed the material and how it related lots to computers. Tests mainly based on lectures and labs. 10/10 recommend. Our TA Kim was not good at responding to emails and I also had problems with Krawitz responding as well which was frustrating. Class avg 72%
Professor Krawitz is very reasonable, as someone who struggles with neurobiology I found his PSYC 251 course to be straightforward and well-explained. If you have questions, he is happy to help explain concepts outside of class. While the lab questions can be challenging, his tests are fair as they only cover the concepts from lecture.
Probably my favourite prof at UVic, this is the second class I've taken with him and I've loved both. The material presented is super challenging to understand but Adam's explanations make it easy. Tests are difficult but very fair. As long as you go to lecture and pay attention, you can do well. 100% recommend any class with him!
Great prof, nice guy, enjoyable lectures (recorded and uploaded to BS). Went in a bit intimidated by the material, but Prof. Krawitz made it digestible and applicable. Textbook isn't needed, just review the lecture slides. 2-page article review paper (worth 5%) was the only assignment and he accepts SONA credits for 2% bonus.
Krawitz is genuinely a good prof who can explain concepts in a clear way. Fair marker, I forgot to hand a paper in an hour late and he let it slide without penalizing me. Posts lecture recordings which is helpful. Only downside is the content and tests are more difficult to grasp (at least for me), but study hard and it really is doable
Dr. Krawitz is a great prof, his slides make sense and he is easy to follow during his lectures. He is also great at expalining concepts if you don't understand and is willing to "dumb it down" if needed until it makes sense for you. He uses iClicker in the class so you can get some bonus marks as well, and also uses SONA.
I loved PSYC351C with Krawitz! He's an amazing professor who anticipates and answers students' questions before anyone even asks them. His lectures are very interesting, and his exams are very fair. If you go to all the lectures, do the homework, and study using the posted slides, it is easy to do well in the class.
Krawitz is an amazing professor! His PPT are easy to follow and his explanations for each topic were very clear and easy to understand. Tests are fair as long as you do the labs and attend lectures. Very friendly during office hours, but not the best at responding to emails. He also uploads class recordings, which I found to be super helpful.
Amazing instructor, approachable, he had clear and easy to follow slides. He records his lectures, which was super helpful for studying purposes. His tests were fair, but found that you need to apply the concepts to real life situations.
Krawitz makes course concepts digestable and super interesting. He's also transparent about class expectations and posts lecture videos and slides to brightspace for studying and homework. Supplementary reading material was not mandatory for completeing homework and exams, but relevant and helpful to understanding topics.
Adam Krawitz is one of the best profs I have ever had. Though I did not like the course material very much, Krawitz made it awesome. He is funny and created great examples to learn and remember the material. I would love to have a course with his again. Krawitz made a course I thought I would hate into a course I love!!
I loved this class, super interesting content and Dr. Krawitz made it engaging! I'd definitely recommend
The best professor I've had at UVic. I've made sure to take every class he teaches at the school
the best prof at uvic
Professor Krawitz is a fantastic lecturer who makes the course content engaging and digestible. The lecture recordings and Unstuckstudy were incredibly helpful for studying and understanding the material.
Krawitz is probably my favourite professor at UVIC. He is the best lecturer I have had and really knows what he is talking about. The courses he teaches are some of the more difficult in psyc but he makes it worth it. His exams are super fair and very lecture based. I recommend taking a course with him he is just such a cute and lovely guy.
I love Adam. He is just so awesome.
Amazing prof, amazing guy, makes tricky material interesting and entertaining, very fair, super cool course I would definitely recommend taking a class with adam.
Prof Krawtiz is an excellent prof, he really knows his stuff and provides good explanations for all the content. Tough exams so it is essential to study, go to lectures, take good notes and ask questions. My grade reflects my lack of note taking but overall a good class
Best professor at UVIC. I would take this course over and over again if I could. PSYC 351A is amazing because Adam makes it very interactive. I cannot recommend this course and this professor more.
I absolutely loved classes with Dr. Krawitz! He is a phenomenal teacher and single-handedly made me decide to give cognitive neuroscience a shot. Classes are recorded which by rewatching them on 2x speed is how I finished with almost 100% in the class. There is a "mandatory" textbook however I did not open it and did better by focusing on lectures.
Even though I don't have much of an interest in cognitive or bio psychology, I would consider taking a class in this stream if Prof. Krawitz is teaching it! He had engaging lectures and the online "labs" helped further my learning. I didn't read the textbook after the first few units, instead focusing on the slides for studying. Would recommend!
Dr. Krawitz is a cool guy! The content was super interesting, and the course was awesome overall. I had a great time. He also mentioned Fugazi in the lecture which was sick!
Anything that's on an exam he covers very thoroughly in class, so if you take a lot of notes you don't need to purchase a textbook. He's great at answering questions, responds to emails quickly, and makes lectures as interesting as they probably could be. Also a lot of your grade will come from easy things like attendance or short online quizzes.
I love Adam Krawitz, he explains hard to conceptualize concepts in a way that makes the material engaging. With that being said, there are a few notes I have: the exams were fairly difficult - there wasn't any guides for studying, the final was cumulative, and seemed like a guessing game on what to study. Paper being worth only 5% seemed off.
Prof. Krawitz is clearly very passionate about what he teaches and is very responsive to any questions and concerns. He's a pretty funny guy too and tries to have fun with his classes. Would definitely recommend.
Adam is such a great prof and organizes his lecture material very well. He makes difficult content easy to understand and it such a nice guy! 10/10 recommend this course as it was super interesting!
Such a great prof and just a great guy. He is so wholesome lol I love being in his lectures, you can tell he is genuinely passionate about what he teaches. His slides are straightforward, a good outline but I write down nearly everything he says. He makes it very clear what will be expected on his exams and its clear he cares for his students.
Adam has quite challenging course material for students to learn so you need to put in a substantial amount of effort for understanding but it is very reasonable based on the topics covered. As well, his lab assignments give fairly well rounded questions based on content relevant to the topic and content which will be tested on- great feedback.
Lectures are engaging and he brings good energy. Midterm was more difficult than expected; details only briefly mentioned in class need to be studied rather than just core concepts.
Krawitz is an amazing professor and the class is interesting however it is NOT easy! Only take this class if you do have an interest in the cogn/neurostream! The exams are application based questions and require a lot of thinking. The course is very heavy and you get loaded with information especially when you are not specializing in these streams.
my shayla. miss him every day
Adam is very knowledgeable, passionate, and clear about his expectations. I recommend going to lectures as they are very helpful in understanding the many, sometimes complex studies we are tested on. Although studying is a must, his tests are fair. His occasional jokes make this class very enjoyable and interesting.
Adam is so passionate about being a prof and so kind&silly! His expectations are incredibly clear and exams are fair. From someone who was so scared to take the cog stream, I was pleasantly surprised by how engaging and fun this class was b/c of how great of a prof he is. also don't need to read the textbook, just study the slides and go to class!
His lectures themself were quite interesting. You also DO NOT need to read the textbook. I read the textbook for midterm 1 and never touched it again. However, he was never able to answer a question. Someone would ask smth and he would just end it with "im not rly too sure". The final was also very hard. I wouldnt take a class w him again.
Prof Krawitz is an amazing teacher. I thoroughly enjoyed his class although it was very tough. Content heavy and a lot of memorization. But it is more than possible to obtain a good grade in his class as he weights his tests very fairly, gives good feedback and genuinely wants you to do well in his course. Watching or attending class is a must!
Adam is a great lecturer and super funny. This course is content heavy, and you need to know small details, but very interesting overall. Reading the textbook is not mandatory, but the only midterm I got 100% on was for the units where I read the textbook, so take that as you will. Attendance counts for 5%, but lectures are posted online.
Dr. Krawitz is amazing! He explains difficult concepts very clearly. He is so kind and his lectures are very engaging. This class with him made me love cognitive psychology.
kindest, most accommodating and understanding professor! Really tough class and hard exams, but amazing Prof!!!
I really liked Krawitz's class, he made lectures interesting and informative, just make sure to pay attention and take notes on what he says over slides with pictures on them because that's important info that is likely on tests. I got the textbook but you don't really need it, anything on the tests will be covered adequately in class.
I would consider the textbook optional. Only helpful if you are struggling with a topic. He tests on the lecture slides so study those well. Sylvius and Iclicker are NOT optional so overall its a bit of an expensive class but so worth it if you are interested in the field. The first few units and lab assignments scared me but it gets better.
King. Don't buy the textbook. Rewatching the lectures that he posts is very helpful.
Fun lectures that went at a great pace! The textbook is collecting dust on my shelf, I never used it. Tests will be fine as long as you study. You'll often need to know WHERE things are in the brain (got me a few times). Slides are usually informative but sometimes have images that he'll explain in lecture-- take notes!
I really enjoyed this class. Prof Krawitz is super nice and really helpful during office hours and after class. He is pretty fair on tests and tells us what to expect. Questions cover lecture material and lab assignments. I studied lecture slides and labs and did well in this class, the textbook is more helpful for lab activities.
Very funny and caring professor, would definitely recommend taking a class with him. He clearly loves his job and his work, and it has a huge benefit on his teaching. Uses iClicker for attendance but it wasn't much of the final grade percentage. I skipped 70% of the lectures and still got an A, all content is easy to find on the Brightspace.
