Adam replys well to emails, I'll give him that. But his class is extreamly difficulty. His lectures are full of mistakes. I missed a quiz (worth 2% of my grade and hey, life happens) and he almost took away my access to the midterm review. After emailing him, he finally granted access to the review, but didn't let me earn the 9% grade it was worth.

I switched to a different professor after 2 classes. He does not lecture which makes zero sense since this is a math course. He uses Perusall and has us make comments on slideshows that we are supposed to teach to ourselves (heavily time consuming). In class we only do group work and he barely helps explain things when you have questions.

he thinks his "strategy" of a flipped classroom works but it clearly doesn't. not a single student understands the topics they're working on, because it's not our job to teach them ourselves.

I should have listen to his reviews cause he is potentially the worst professor at ASU, I dropped his class after 2 times going, he doesn't teach, he isn't helpful, and expects us to know the stuff.

I took Adam last semester for Discrete and I have to say that he is one of the worst professors I have seen at ASU. He doesn't teach at all and makes us just watch boring videos for the lectures. Going to class was mandatory and was useless as he made us solve overcomplicated problems and didn't bother explaining at all and he should be fired.

Expect to be teaching yourself, I really do wish this class was attendance optional, since you come in to just sit at a lab and teach yourself math. Exams were each month, if you follow up with your assignments and study the reviews, you should be fine. The reviews really do help in this course.

Professor Leighton's class was an awful way to start my time at ASU. The fact that attendance was mandatory, yet he relied fully on an online course made no sense. Don't expect him to respond to any emails or questions. As he relies fully on his TAs to do the teaching for him. He should not be teaching.

I loved this professor, his class is mostly group work based and daily preps which I thought was easy. You'll understand the material if you read the daily preps and engage with your group. He's also pretty lenient with exam grades, you can get the wrong answer but only get like 2 points taken off so you can still pass the exams.

The class is tough overall. I had to take MAT 117S and barely passed. Got a 0 on an exam due to a camera issue but the prof fixed it after I reached out. Prof seems nice, reach out if you need help. He posted announcements but didn't engage much. If the material is hard 4 U, I'd suggest a personal tutor—ASU tutoring didn't help much.

This class should be an online course. Adam is really nice and for an easy class like MAT117 his system of class isn't that bad. But you're basically teaching yourself all the information, and just doing a bunch of work in ALEKS. Coming to class felt like a waste since everything is just independent online.

I took his MAT 117, and it wasn't that bad. It was boring because it was a self-taught class rather than a lecture class. I knew most of the material before, so it wasn't that difficult for me, and it was self-explanatory. He is pretty helpful sometimes if you need some assistance. Sometimes I think he's just there to be there, I guess.

Adam seems like a good dude who cares about his students, but I have some serious problems with the way the class is taught. He teaches by solving math problems on a projector, and he moves quickly, often with illegible handwriting. I would have appreciated some more ungraded practice problems in class, which he doesn't really do.

Ignore bad reviews, the design of the course pacing is the problem. Adam obviously cares about math and has a deep understanding of it. He's dedicated to helping you succeed. If you show up, follow along, and actually try, you'll do well. The only people who suffered in this class were the ones who were looking to coast by or skip class frequently.

I retook math with Professor Leighton, who is EXTREMELY helpful and genuinely cares about students. Homework is easy and minimal, attendance is taken 2/3 classes, and he teaches exactly what's on the exam. He offers study hours, optional attendance class review days, and even lets class out early when he notices stressed students. Highly recommend!

He was by far my favorite professor! He has a nice energy, and although he teaches in a weird way it is manageable. As long as you ask questions in class, learn with the homework, and study with the practice exams you are set. I'd also recommend studying the group works, as he usually gives quizzes about them. I wasn't sure what to expect, but the reviews to me don't match how he taught. He did ask us to write an essay before the start of class and then never asked us again.
