Very helpful professor. He may scare you at the beginning of the semester, but just hang in there. He is excellent in explanations, and you don't really have to talk in his class if you don't want to, he encourages participation anyway. very responsive and helpful through e.mails. Interesting lectures, and kind professor, go for him!!
He is a jack ass towards guys. He thinks he is funny. I am passing his class but he tries to make you fail but assigning impossable topics to write on. No test. Only a final and 7 papers to write.
Great professor, he is extrememly intelligent, and he has a passion for philosophy. Although if you're not GENUINELY interested in philosophy, you are not going to do well at all in his class.
He was a great teacher. If you are not interested in this type of stuff then the class gets boring, but it is very easy.
If you like a professor that uses a fake accent, then he is for you. Remember when Madonna went to England & came back with her fake accent, same thing here. He will often stare off into space as if he is in deep thought or something attempting to look complicated. I wish he would concentrate on teaching & less on trying to impress his students.
Most of his quirks listed on previous posts are true. His accent is hilarious! He was a good professor for this class, however. Just make sure you do the reading, understand the concepts, and participate in class and you'll be fine. His grading and due dates were very lenient.
Young, intelligent professor, but narcissistic and aloof. Grading is arbitrary depending on his mood at that moment. Prefers to be addressed as "Dr. Miller." The material can be stimulating "only" if religion and its attributes seem interesting to you. The thesis statement is the most important detail of all the essays, of which there are many.
I am taking Professor Miller's online Philosophy class and although the class ouline scared me at first, his clarity makes it manageable.Week to week the assigments are predictable. That is very nice for an online course where there are no face to face reminders.I wish all professors were as clear in what they expect from the students!
I took this class online, it was great. The material was easy, theres an assignment due every week, but they aren't very hard if you read, and the papers are actually interesting. The passages that he chose were good passages for reading, and he was a great professor.
Absolutely enjoyed his class! Eloquently explained material and led an interesting class.
I took Adam Millers Comparative Religion class and found it quite irritating. I guess I would have done better off with his online course. I dont believe his attendance should be so judged upon and he should birng his pompus ass down to earth. If your looking for a fun and class who someone values YOUR opinion, this one isn't it.
I really enjoyed this class. All the grades in class were based on written papers and 2 exams. There was a research paper due at the very end of the semester that was worth half of your grade.
He's a wonderful teacher. His teaching style is very interesting and funny.
If you are not interested in the subject then it wont be enjoyable. Lectures are easy to understand and no mandatory participation. There are 4 analysis papers that are somewhat difficult. Accepts late papers with 20 points off as long as they are turned in before the final day of class. If you do the work you will pass.
Hes a great teacher with a rare sence of humor. You will like his class if your into philosophy, its a fun class, but you do have to write a few 5page papers that suck. You get easy 2second homework assignments(helps with your grade), and he is always there to help you!
He is very nice and has a funny personality. I recommend his comparative religion class only if you are generally interested in religion. You have to write 4 5-page essays but if you pay attention and read the books, it is simple. I definitely recommend him as a teacher for philosophy.
Awesome professor! His lectures were extremely interesting. There is a lot of writing but it's actually fun if you are into Philosophy. He's funny and pretty cute!
Dr. Miller is a GREAT teacher!!! I had no interest in Philosophy before I took his class. There are daily writings and papers, and attendance is a must! But over all it is a GREAT class... I learned a lot!!! He is SUPER HOT TOO!!!
You will write a lot of papers in this class. It was fun but definetly not easy! No quizzes but he has Daily Writing Assignments and a word of the day. This is so easy. Just do it and turn it in because it can seriously make a difference in your grade. Take notes. His notes will help you write your papers.
I loved Dr. Miller! He made class fun, and he was funny! =] You do read several books throughout the semester, but he clearly explains what's going on. He also engages students in lectures and there are no wrong answers. Alot of writing, but easily done if you take notes. Not a blow off class but an A is possible.
I took him for online summer 3, he was a good teacher and his assignments were clear. It is a lot of reading. I liked the class but I have become fond of philosophy. If you don't like philosophy and don't like to read you should probably pick another class.
Dr. Miller (because he has a PHD in philosophy so he is kind of cocky) was a pretty nice teacher. When I missed class, I would shoot him an e-mail and he would thank me and tell me what I missed. 3 Analysis papers that were basically your grade, and the final was a few essays that he gave you before the exam to study. Much easier than expected
He is funny, and explains the topics very well.
enlightening.
One of the best classes I've ever taken. The professor is a very easy going and has a funny socratic style classroom.
I had this teacher for Introduction to Phil and then decided to take him for Ethics as well. Great teacher, not the easiest class but if you love Philosophy this is a great teacher and knows what he is teaching. That rarely happens in Philosophy!!
There are 3 essays. There is a writing assignment pretty much every day, that you must type up at home and return the next day. Essay format stays the same for each essay. He is kind of weird, he squeaks in his words sometimes and as a previous reviewer said, does stare into space a lot. The final has four essays and is crazy hard. Don't take!
I hated this class and I love Philosophy and Religion. The course was nothing like the course description said. His arrogance and narcissism are astounding. His assignments are extremely hard and he has a lot of stupid guidelines. He takes very little interest in students. The books he chose were completely irrelevant to the class. I felt cheated.
Dr Miller as he likes to be called might be intelligent but his arrogance just makes him nothing more than an ignorant buffoon.
I took his online Philosophy course and I have really enjoyed it. I don't understand all of everything I am reading but its pretty easy as long as you give it your all you will get a good grade. There is a ton of paperwork though, every week you have the same assignment with the exception of the few essays!
Professor Miller is a great teacher, hes very funny and laid back. He wants you to do well and will help you no matter what. Couple quizzs and 3 papers. Pay attention to what he says, very smart.
quite sarcastic, used several philosophical books, if you take good notes and show up every class you do not need the books, but can help. have to write a paper like every month and then you get to choose to write an in class essay over any of the people you learned about through out the semester. has little 5 question quizzes also.
Great teacher. Sarcastic, funny, will constantly review over material. He makes it quite clear what he wants on papers, which makes up most of the grade. Numerous quizzes, does NOT allow extra credit. Half my class dropped in the first month, but stick with him, he has a wonderful passion for Emerson.
Professor Miller was awesome. He can be quite sarcastic, but is very fun and cares about his topics. You definitely should read the books he assigns, but some students got away without doing so. Overall the class was fun and not overly difficult.
He was always very fun and sarcastic, encouraged discussion and broke down mind-numbing ideas into manageable pieces. I had no trouble with this class and found it easily challenging (if that makes sense) I would recommend everyone take the class, but you have to be there ever day to get it, and read the books.
You will have to READ and WRITE more essays than any other course. Literally one per week. If you don't like reading 40 pages per week then writing an analytic essay on what you had just read and its application to pop culture this is not the course for you. If you can handle the work load, however, it is an easy A.
I had Dr. Miller's World Religion class. His dry, snarky sense of humor made his class a lot of fun. My one gripe is his papers; he does not give grades of 100, period, and will not give you feedback for improvement if you get above a 90. As a perfectionist, that drove me nuts. Still a fun class, though, with interesting readings and discussions.
I very much enjoyed Dr. Miller's Comparative Religions class. It is true that he doesn't provide feedback for grades over a 90 unless requested. Dr. Miller had no qualms in sitting down with me and providing any information I needed to help me improve. If you want a witty professor who makes you think, then I'd recommend this one.
There is a lot of reading and writing but as long as you read the writing is pretty easy
Lectures are well organized, and all the key points get repeated every class so you know exactly what to study. The "quizzes" are all the same, basically, and the three main grades are papers that are pretty easy if you're okay at writing papers!
He assigns a lot of at home study along with three big papers. He isn't a tough grader but the assignments can really pile up if you don't stick with it. He maintains an orderly classroom and approached the sometimes controversial topics with grace. If you appreciate sarcasm you'll enjoy his lectures!
100% Recommended! The class is nowhere near difficult, most of the work is just the 3 papers, but if you do them early you simply can relax and enjoy the lecture. Miller is completely hilarious and makes the material stick in your head, can't complain about a single bit of the class.
His final exams are super easy (although they are 300 questions long). He responds FAST whenever you email him with an issue or question. I would say that he grades fairly and that his course works is easy to do, and everything is clearly outlined ahead of time. Would love to take him again.
I'll be honest, I enjoyed him so much the first time for Comparative Religions that I took him again for Intro to Philosophy. Dr. Miller is funny, insightful, and a great professor. There is never a boring moment in class. He assigns 3 papers and as long as you listen in class, he gives you the info you need to make an A. Highly recommended!
For starters Dr. Miller is a stone cold fox, making it easy to pay attention in class. When lecturing he doesn't drag on for the whole hour he will interact with his students. 3 papers all have to be 5 pages long, these papers are a little difficult but if you are coming to class and taking notes about the text you will have an easier time writing.
A lot of students seemed to enjoy Professor, excuse me, DOCTOR Miller but i didn't care for him much. He was very arrogant, sarcastic, and narcissistic. If you are okay with that then you should be fine in his class. Make sure you are on time! He is pretty clear on his lectures and assigns long papers that are fine if you read. Overall, meh.
This is basically a literature class, with reading and a writing assignment every week. But not just any writing assignment, the exact.. same.. one.. word for word.. every week.. the whole semester.. They're easy, just follow directions but my god.. The best thing about college is now knowing that the bad philosophy class can't hurt me anymore.
Dr. Miller was an overall decent professor. His lectures were interesting at first but by the middle/end of the semester I was falling asleep because they got way too boring. His is very clear on his expectations, and assigns 3, 6 page papers, but he is an easy grader. Go to class, take the notes, and it's an easy A.
Mr. Miller is funny if you can stay awake long enough to catch a joke. Classes are a little repetitive but it makes sense when you see the exam. Taking this class was a huge mistake, don't take it unless you HAVE to. I think Mr. Miller forgets that it's an INTRO to philosophy class and doesn't need to be to intensely in depth
Don't bother taking this class unless you're amazing at essays.
Dont take his online classes. Makes you buy $140 book. Read 40+ pages out of the book every week and then write an essay on what you read that should be around 2 pages. each week its the same exact assignments and essay just reading different parts of the book. Expects way to much time to be put into his class esp. if your full time student/work.
I loved this class. Straightforward. No hoop jumping. Great professor
Adam Miller was one of my tougher professors but in a good way. There are 3-4 major papers (Final is essay oriented) but if you do the readings and take notes you'll do fine. There's 4-5, very short, books you'll need to read so keep up and be prepared. Lots of fun, just be upfront if you need help and he'll work with you. Lots of fun!
There is no one better than Professor Adam Miller at what he does.
Nice professor. The weekly assignment is the same 2 page paper every single week over what you read. Writing/reading heavy class. Online class is open-book, timed exams/quizzes. To get an a you really need to put in work, not a class you can do the bare minimum in.
Too many papers and the midterm and final are tough (lots of questions, little time). Not too hard but you read 40 pages a week and write a long paper over it every. single. week. Bit of a tough grader, hard to get a 100. For philosophy this was intense. The work load adds up. Weekly paper & quiz, one large paper, midterm, and final
Dr. Miller is a great philosophy teacher. He is funny, smart and pretty interesting. His class can be a bit repetitive at times, but it's still fun if philosophy interests you. The final is tough but everything else is pretty easy. All you have to do is read the books and do all the assignments. He basically gives the answers to everything.
I enjoyed this class and the professor makes the class interesting. There are weekly writing assignments and papers to write, but the instructions are clear. Easy to study for test too. I recommend Miller.. don't miss out. You won't regret it.
Professor Miller is one of the best professors I have had. He makes online courses easy to follow and actually learn from. I had him for Intro. to Philosophy as well in class and he was even better. I would take Professor Millers classes over and over again if I could. I would highly recommend him if you do not mind reading and writing papers.
Prof. Mille is not open to change. It is either his way or the highway. His has very strict grading scale which made it difficult to get a good grade. There is a lot of reading and writing that go into the class on a weekly bases. The midterm does not give enough time to complete and makes you rushed. Then the final is less time/more questions?????
Dr Miller was, by far and without a doubt, my favorite prof at Collin. He is very knowledgeable & encourages open discussion on the topics we read about. He provides very specific instructions on what he expects from the essays. Follow those & contact him for any help. My writing skills have improved more from him than any of my English profs.
It is very easy to do great in Dr. Miller's class. He is very clear on what he needs you to do each week. He is very easy grader and to him participation matters. As long as you do what you need to do, you will pass.
If you cant handle writing a paper every week do not take this professor online. I only did because I can handle writing papers. Its basically the same thing every week which is nice just very repetitive. He is a fair grader and enters grades pretty quick. Just have to try and you will be fine.
Dr. Miller is a really nice guy. He can be a bit repetitive, but he doesn't grade very hard on assignments. You can find most of the books free online, especially the Plato ones. He has a few homework assignments that are completion grades, and 3 papers that are pretty annoying to do but aren't really that hard. He really likes philosophy lol.
Took online for fall semester. Every week the assignment is the same as the last. You'll study 1 philosopher a week, read 1 chapter and write 1 paper. This is a heavy writing intensive class, so if you don't mind that then he's a solid choice. Exams are easy. Fair grader.
I would not take this class with professor miller again unless you plan to get a PhD in philosophy. There is literally a writing assignment every week on top of writing an 8-10 page research paper. So unless you love to read 60+ pages a week, write a paper, and not focus on any other classes then do not take this professor.
I took the eight week course which made the course load heavy but I also skipped a half of what the in person classes required and still made an A. Just do the work, stay on top of the assignments, and RE READ your essays. The class is philosophy but he grades like an english professor
I took his class online and it wasn't hard, however, it was essay heavy. His quizzes are unlimited attempts. There are 5 essays, one being an 8-10 page research essay. He is very clear as to what he expects from you, and IMO, is a fair/easy grader (I did the 8 page research essay the day it was due and got a 96 on it if that shows you anything).
His lectures are great, very informative, and fun. You have to read a lot of philosophical texts, and write essays on them (4 shorter ones, then a big research paper at the end of the semester). All the material is on Canvas, quizzes are not timed, and are pretty easy. Not harsh with grades at all; I wrote a 3 page essay in one day and got a 96.
Your grade reflects on your ability to word and analyze the philosophers ideology and their text through essays, the papers are straight forward with a clear rubric, thats easy to follow. Overall Miller made me want to show up through his amazing humour and personality, he wants you to pass! and also have a good time in class, 10/10 professor
Professor Miller is by far one of my favorite teachers. He's always cracking jokes and getting his students involved in the lesson. There are four essays over different philosophers, but the rubric is easy to follow. There's a research paper at the end, which is time-consuming, but the final exam is just like the quizzes, so it's pretty easy.
Professor Miller makes philosophy easy and fun, but going to each class is important if you want to get a good grade. He will look for things he taught in class in your papers. I recommend taking this class as a 16 week course, otherwise it may be too crammed to enjoy. The class is well organized and run, there are 4 essays about 2 pages and one 8
Dr. Miller is a great professor. His lectures are engaging and very informative. In total, the class will cover 4 philosophers who each get three weeks of material dedicated to them. Week one will be an overview, week two you'll read a primary text, and week three you will write an essay over the text that was read. TAKE THIS CLASS!!!!
Dr. Miller is very knowledgeable in the topic. I suppose he is pretty funny but it can get awkward sometimes. Each unit (4) requires a primary text reading, a few quizzes and other readings, and writing a paper. He is also very lenient on deadlines. He allowed anything up until the end of the semester. Just don't procrastinate and you will be fine.
Adam Miller is great in many ways but he does require many papers for his class but you are aloud to take the quizzes as many times as you would like. He gives out very clear instructions but I'm not great at writing a paper so that's why I have a low grade.
He grades papers like we are Ph.D. students... The mean grade for all writing assignments was below a 70 and there are multiple 5+ page papers that are roughly graded. NO ONE got a 100 in any of the writing assignments, RED FLAGGG.
Although I came into the class disliking philosophy, Miller made me appreciate the course. We wrote 5 papers in total. If you're willing to go to class to understand what the philosophers mean, then you'll do great in the class, he goes easy on grading. He also lets you turn in late papers up until the week of finals.
I took Professor Miller for a summer session; he was a fantastic professor. I learned a lot in his class about philosophy, and although there were no textbooks, he gave us texts that we had to read and write a paper about. It's a lot of reading, but the quizzes, which are a series of T or F questions, are pretty chill. I recommend taking him!
Took Professor Miller online and it was a very straight forward semester. I took this class with microbiology and music appreciation as well; and, I didn't find the quizzes, discussion posts or exams too much for me and it was very easy to balance. He assigns videos and articles that align with the quizzes, discussion port and writing assignments.
Professor miller was great, some of the reading was a little difficult to understand as its philosophy but I'd suggest outside sources online if you have any difficulty would highly recommend if your taking philosophy- excepts late work and his grading didn't seem very strict to me. Took his class online and he was quick to respond to questions
Professor Miller made philosophy enjoyable, he is an accommodating and lenient grader. Lots of reading, but if you go to class it is not too bad. The course consists of weekly quizzes and writing assignments every three weeks.
Very good professor! Gave good lectures and was extremely clear on the material and instructions. The only difficult thing about this class are the reading and the essays, but they are doable if you spend some time with it. Highly recommend overall.
If you hate essays, DO NOT take this man's class under any circumstances. Just take a freaking art class instead. He literally admits to his students that this class is not important but still assigns so many pointless assignments and then continues to grade on the worst grading scale ever. He refuses to give out 100s on any papers. You're welcome
He's a decent professor. Admittedly I didn't work as hard as I could have. His paper grading is a bit harsh, but it's not impossible to get an A. There is a lot of reading involved. I wouldn't say he's a bad professor by any means, but his class is a fair bit difficult.
Very funny and amazing professor.
great professor
nice man
do not take be warned.
TAKE HIM!! You have about 3-4 quizzes a week and a discussion, but the quizzes are unlimited attempts (best score is kept) and the discussion is usually over what you learned. 5 writing assignments, but the rubric is easy to follow and 1 final quiz (1 attempt) . This is the easiest A I've gotten. Never had any questions regarding his work. EASY AAA
Going to his early morning class is literally an existential comedy special. He is super intelligent, and homework was so easy. I see a lot of comments about essay exams, but if you go to class and ask questions you will pass one hundred percent. He also gives us the essay questions before so there is no excuse to fail in my opinion.
He was a very chill professor. You don't have to go to class and the lectures were easy to follow even if they were boring. The guidelines for the class were easy to follow and each module has a good amount of work. Something I didn't expect from the class was the amount of papers you write. For a 1301 class, its a ton of work and even more essays.
Professor Miller is an acceptable instructor. He assigns six essay papers that come with detailed directions, along with a 100-question final exam. If you enjoy writing essays and excel at them, he can be a great professor; if not, good luck!
If you love writing essays then this is the class for you. The deadline to turn things in was amazing (end of the semester), but please stay on top of your work. If you love philosophy, then you'll love this class.
Initially I was worried about this class after the first lecture, however Professor Miller had really good lectures. Take notes on the lectures because it will be on the exams. All the exams have a writing component, 3 essays per exam.
Dr Miller's lectures were always super interesting and engaging. Homework and quizzes were online and easy. Essay exams for all 4 units (at the end of each unit) and 3 essays per exam. 4 essay questions were posted online in the beginning of the course and he would choose 3 to put on the exams. He also went over all of them in the lectures.
Professor Miller's PHIL1301 class is an engaging, manageable course. While it involves regular essays, his grading is reasonable. unstuck study and the free textbook helped me stay on top of the workload.
The best teacher
Dr. Miller is an excellent philosophy professor whose clear and engaging teaching stands out. His lectures are concise, easy to understand, and engaging. He asks for participation without putting anyone on the spot. I had no background in philosophy before this class, but Dr. Miller's teaching sparked my interest. Highly recommend Dr. Miller!
Took this online during Wintermester. Had an essay due every week and a 4000 word final. He also had quizzes after each module but they were easy. Overall I think it was a decent class and he's a pretty lenient grader as long as you do the work.
