Very Easy Going cool teacher Take Him!
Great professor, this was one of my favorite classes to go to this semester. He will try to put up a front like he is really mean the first day but he is a really cool guy.
Not sure what my grade is yet, he is a slow grader unfortunately. He is definitely an interesting professor, makes learning enjoyable. I thought his tests were okay, others described them as hard. There is a group presentation and a 5 page paper that are not fun; seek his help and he will give it.
He is an engaging professor, he makes criminology an interesting topic. He speaks very fast, take very detailed notes. He is NOT an easy professor but neither is he hard. I know students that passed and students that failed. My advice is do all your weekly discussion boards!!!
Dr. Sanford is such an awesome person he is very knowledgeable and understanding. He assigns quick writes for every lecture and there is a big paper assignment. There is no study guide provided. the power points for the class are your study guide. The test are 40 multiple choice ?'s and 5 essay ?'s. You cant go wrong with this class.
LOVE HIM! He's a good person, he's funny, his class is info then discussion. If you're not really a talkative person in class he will bring it out of you because the information he provides is so interesting. Took him for Juvenile Delinquency and learned SO much. Some may say he's bias, but I just think he's keeping it real- which he does.
He makes you buy a book that we never used. The class itself involves ALOT of work!! I got a B in his class and i am terrible at math. be prepared to work hard, hw, exams and labs consume a lot of your time!
I do not recommend the class if you have other hard classes. There were 3 assignments every week, in addition to discussion board responses to classmates. A TON of writing is involved- this is NOT an easy A, you have to work for it. 6-8 pg paper at end of classes. Do all work and you will pass. I got an A-.
From the first day of class this teacher rubbed me the wrong way by stating that he was going to give us "LARGE amounts of work" in order to make us better students. He's condescending, sarcastic, and curses at his students. Very unprofessional. The classwork is comprised of busy work, and his tests are difficult. I recommend taking someone else.
As the semester progress the material is interesting and the discussion is insightful, but his exam are very difficult. The discussion board is a have to do basic, so is attendance. Textbook use is very crucial. I would not take him again because he rubs me the wrong way with inappropriate questions as if I speak for the entire race of my people.
He's very helpful. He has 3 exams, drops the lowest (free response). NO STUDY GUIDE. However, just STUDY & READ! Discussion Boards every week along with Quick-writes and a research paper due(6-8 pgs.)Definitely recommend him, and interesting topic.
this class is very interesting. there is nothing too hard about this class, but there is homework every week. Also there is a paper. The final is optional if you do well on the first two test.
I WOULD NOT recommend this teacher!I took this course online.I wrote 46 pages worth of work(I counted)plus a 6 page paper.Unbelievable for a 300 series course! This class is nothing but busy work (summarizing the text book). If you have issues with Blackboard or how you submitted something, he is NOT understanding, even if you tell him immediately.
Taken him several times - Great teacher that truly cares about his students and knowledgeable in what he teaches. Definitely makes you earn your grade. Weekly quickwrites are tedious but very helpful. Book not mandatory, just attend the lectures and you'll get all the information you need to know.
Taken him several times - Great teacher that truly cares about his students and knowledgeable in what he teaches. Definitely makes you earn your grade. Weekly quickwrites are tedious but very helpful. Book not mandatory, just attend the lectures and you'll get all the information you need to know. Workload is a bit heavy - nothing impossible.
This teacher lectures so fast. He modifies his syllabus every month. You will have to submit 3 assignments per week, a total of 48 assignments a semester. He grades hard and will make you re-do the assignments if you fail which is double the work. Rented book and never touched it.
Dr. Sanford cares about his students as if they were his own children. I took him for a modern theories class and although the topic itself was boring, he made it connect with real life examples that really stuck with you. Activity Worksheets and Quick Writes are due every week. If you don't go to class and take notes you won't pass.
Lectures way too fast it's insane! Expect homework every week. Take good notes and try not to miss a class. Only 3 assessments. If u want a good grade, expect to do a lot of work!
Professor Is extremely fast when given lecture. Exams are somewhat hard and every exam is base on the lectures. The way that this professor grades is by different Modules and is not fair game. He's always talks and give examples of his life preference. I don't like the fact that he doesn't use a book. So please don't buy the book. Poor :(
Honestly a lot of busy work. Assignment due every week, but you basically summarize what you've learned throughout the week's lessons. His lectures are tough, but interesting. It's been a year since I've taken him, and I still remember everything he taught me. If you're truly interested in SOC and want to retain the info, he's def the prof to take.
He definitely means business so if you're lazy or looking for an easy A, don't take him. He is there to push you and make you earn your grade. His homework assignments are lengthy and you must read in order to pass. Though very challenging, this class was also rewarding; I learned a lot! He is also there for you so don't be intimidated by the load
This professor puts grades on blackboard and expects students to be graded off modules. If you are not a good test/quiz taker do not take this course. The quizzes are based off his lectures but are not worded properly. He assigns assignments weekly and grades them up to his standards. I would never take him again.
The class overall was pretty easy. The material is clearly presented and the teacher is very easy to get a hold of. He grades differently than other teachers. He grades based on modules, and on day 1 you know exactly what work you need to do to get the grade you want. Confusing at first but no tests! Only easy quizzes. Pay attentiongood grade!
The first day of class I was intimidated by the syllabus and now that the class is over, I enjoyed the material and realized what was expected of me as a student wasn't bad at all. He is clear on what you have to do to pass the class. It is your choice of what grade to get. Keep ahead of your assignments so you don't struggle at the end. Fun class!
OMG ! Do Not take him ! Weekly writing assignments are ridiculous. There's more focus on How to write, than on the actual topic of this class. It seems as he's never satisfied with what we turn in. His video lectures are 100 miles per minute and good luck trying to take any notes. I would never take him again, and I can't wait all to be done.
I took him for two classes on my first semester there. The class is tough but as long as you keep up with the readings and assignments it's not bad. You really need to put time aside for his class. I learned a lot i really enjoyed the class and you work for the grade you deserve. The grading is based on modules but it's all you. I got B's
For those who think that students below, who gave this professor good ratings, are credible (it's very suspect, if you ask me), here's the list of assignments just to get C. 6 immediate quizzes based on syllabus (which you must pass in order to continue), 19 written assignments, and additional 4 quizzes based on lectures. This dude is insane !!
I have never worked so hard for a B. EXPECT A LOT OF HOMEWORK! Minimum 3 assignments for this classes a week, each about 2.5 pages single spaced. Showing up to office hours gets you no where because he refuses to discuss your work. If you are late or absent your grade drops! In the end the work was so tedious that I retained ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!
The big warning I will give is that his grading system is the strangest I've ever seen, and very hard to understand right away. But, it actually works to student's advantage as long as you do the work. Lots of Discussion Board, but the class is interesting and Sanford is very fair
You will have so much homework you probably would not have time for any other class and that is just to get a C try to get an A it is doubled that. The homework or Research Exercises do not match up with the test. I have not learned anything in his class. I would not recommend this class on my worst enemy.
Not a professor I would recommend. You are better off taking another professor that will actually teach you how to research. Grading scale that he made up. It is according to his standards if you get a E or an M, yes an E or a M. Yes you can resubmit the work but you will be so backed up on work it will be better to get it right the first time.
This professor's assignments are very time-consuming. You'll be so busy stressing over his class to worry about your others. There's about 4 assignments due in a week but they are ALL lengthy; there's no break. Time management isn't even enough. You really have no time for anything else and I don't think he considers that.
He is very tough!! Grades set up on an E M R U scale and there are grade modules so you only complete the items based on the grade you want! I don't recommend if you are looking for an easy A+
Very tough grader and assigns so much work to finish by the end of EVERY week. Every class you get in groups and discuss online lectures. He grades you using modules which is such a bad idea. If you have enough time on your hands and willing to accept a challenge, take him. But even if I had all the free time in the world I still wouldn't take him.
Never again will I take this professor! Harsh grader, a lot of work, a lot of quizzes, too many discussion boards.... If you are taking more than 3 classes I would not recommend him at all.
Do NOT take him. I have never done SO much work for a class. He requires so much work, it is unbelievable. As if he forgets that there are other classes to be taken. There is work due every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. HUGE LOAD. I regret taking this class so much. DO NOT TAKE HIM!Don't say I didn't warn you.
Dr. Sanford is one of the best person and authority figure that i have taken in this school. he is very clear on his syllabus about his grating rubric. he does ask for a lot of written with his journals but they help him know what he has to help the class with. daily quizzes see videos before class allows late work.
Lectures go way too fast, gives no study guides, does not go In depth about his lectures because he wants to hurry up and force his worksheets on the class. I received a B+ in the class, but I felt like I didn't learn anything from him. He also can be hostile towards students at times. If you miss more than one day of class than your grade drops.
Dr. Sanford is very clear at the beginning of the semester of what he expects from his students. You need to work for that A. He also responded quickly to every email and provided guidance at any and all times during the course! Highly recommend, if you are eager to learn and sharpen up your writing!
What a terrible professor, I give him a failing grade! Meaningless work and unwilling to help. So full of rules that it's hard to get a good grade. He loves to be stickler about every little aspect of your work. Learned a lot of rules but learned no real content. This man should be fired, not an educator in the real sense of the word.
He do too much. I don't like anything about his class. He puts extra stress on you. He can care less if you pass or not. Its a mandatory class that's y he puts you the the hopes. This is a teacher I would never retake. I don't like giving bad ratings but it is what it is.... He adds stress to the stress we already got in our personal lives...
Horrible, his lectures all online and have to watch them before class. He has very strong views and there is a quiz for attendance every class at the beginning.
First off, Pay Attention or you will fail. Concentrate on the first few weeks of class how he grades. READ the syllabus like 3 times. Emphasis put on the fact you are not in High School any longer, so grades will not be given to you. Your grade has to be earned. First decide what grade you want, then do the work in the related column.
If you don't like writing don't take this class. Says hes available to help but his responds are based on the syllabus. Tough grader he has his own system. Also that he designs this class to work around of lives but not true. There are 8 projects that consist of 3-4 pages and journals that are also the same. Definitely not taking again.
short and simple, do not take. You will regret it, i guarantee it 100%
Do not take him! He expects everything to be perfect every time. If the assignment isn't perfect he will make you do it all over. There are like 4+ assignments you must complete to get into the course. He is very condescending and rude. He is not clear with directions and is not open minded to alternative solutions.
Guy is a real chode yall. First online class at a different Uni and it was just a complete disaster. Grading critera is unclear ended up changing it last minute at the end of the semester because we didnt understand. Want work done the way HE wants it or would do it. Anything else is to be redone till it is to his liking. Work load is death.
He is very much understanding.
This is by far the hardest class i've ever taken. So much time spent on a paper but didn't even learn anything about criminology. The class only met once a week therefore, we were in there for 2 1/2 hours so he took up the whole time just having us do activities. This class could've just been online since he never taught anything in class.
Very kind person once you get to know him. His class is hard but is willing to work with you and pass you if he sees the effort. Everything required to pass his class is on the syllabus, Pretty self explanatory.
very tough grader, but lets you re do the assignment as many times as you need. visiting office hours definitely helps. many students stress a lot over his coursework but it is pretty easy once you get help
Dr. Sanford is a pretty straight forward person. He lets you know exactly what you need to do in order to get the desired grade you wish from the class. His grading is a bit different but not too bad. He provides more than enough time to finish and resubmit an assignment. Also, provides good feedback on what to fix before resubmitting.
By far one of the best instructors I came across! Take this class you will pass! Yes he gives a lot of work but he also allow you to pick your grade base on how much work you are willing to do. He's not that bad at grading, he tell you exactly what to fix then allow you to resubmit your work. Final is optional and all quizzes are done online.
I understand that everyone wants that easy professor and easy grade. Well the way this class works and how the professor has it described its very plain and simple. if u want a C, do the C work, if u want an A then do the A work. Yes it is an uppder div class, there is work to do but it isnt impossible. dont wait until the due date to do the work
Like any other upper division course loaded with work, I have no complains other than it runs like an online class. He gives hand outs, lectures are on video and all assignments are turned in on Blackboard. If you're the type of student that doesn't do well with online classes don't take him it will be difficult however, not impossible.
He is very clear from the beginning of what he expects. If you're not taking a lot of classes then this class shouldn't be a problem. To get a C in the class requires a LOT of work. But, he gives you "extra credit" assignments (takes way to much time). He's always available.
Dr. S is probably the worst professor you can take whether it is an online or on campus class.
There was nothing too love about this class, it was nothing but a ridiculous amount of busy work. Not only that, but it has to be correct by his definitions in your own words and not the online version.
Yo have to work and do assignments if you want the grade. Also he is not an easy grader you ave to get a passing grade on your work in order to move on to the next. You do not learn what so ever you are learning everything at home and if you do not know a term you MUST refer back to his lecture videos you CAN NOT look them up at web. He will report
Stay away from this professor! If you look up terms online for vocabulary he will report you to the director of community standards, you could possibly be expelled just for looking words online. Lot of work which is expected but ridiculous, never take
Your grade is passed on the work you put in and it is best to complete your work by the first due date. He gives you multiple chances to turn in your work and he makes time for people outside of class that need help. MAKE NOTES FOR EACH LECTURE and know that you are not alone. Make friends that can help you with your work. DO NOT PROCRASTINATE.
First off let me say this is the first time i felt i really had to get on this thing. He is too much , & I'm not talking about the work. He is very critical , and i felt i wasn't really learning anything. Also, he talks about not being biased , he is def biased. DO NOT TAKE & get ready to waste at least 15min in the beginning of class.
this class should of been online , he doesn't do anything in class. just reads the news and gives us his biased opinions.
Professor Sanford has a hard course. He makes you resubmit assignments multiple times, and you cannot move on to other assignments until the first assignment is done. He gives you feedback, but his expectations are too high. I would avoid this professor at all costs.
Follow every step on every assignment. If you miss a step, he ask you to resubmit it. Read the syllabus. Read the syllabus. Read the Syllabus and you still might not get it all. Lectures might be 15 minutes long, but it might take you an hour to wright good notes. His discussion questions are based on the Video lectures so you can't skip.
The way he grades your assignments is by incomplete or complete. He always gives out incompletes because he is so specific with what he wants and he will hardly let any mistakes slide. Dont recommend. If you want an A in his class you need to complete about 11 bundles which equal to about 60 assignments.
Dr. S gives plenty of work to the point that you might be lost. You have to read the syllabus very careful and plenty of times. He is definitely a tough grader and usually makes you re-submit the work if something is wrong. Terms have to be from what he defines the terms to be, not the web. I will not take him again. It is too much work. Plz Avoid.
reading these rates might be overwhelming but honestly, his class is not too bad. everything that you need is there for you to follow. he grades tough cause he wants you to truly understand. but fix it and you'll feel so good about it. its intimidating at first but once u get the hang of it, it will almost be stress-free. take him. u got this!
This class requires you to be engaged, have consistency, and discipline to get an "A". The way he awards points and credits is different from any other professor I've had. The upside is that you can pace yourself, just make sure you do the work. If you want to be academically challenged this is the professor for you.
His grading system is so backward. For instance, if you turn in an assignment with a few mistakes, he sends it back to you and keeps sending it back until it is PERFECT. I would rather take a 7/10 on an assignment than have to redo it over and over just for a "complete grade" on it. This causes students to be so behind.
Truly the worst professor I had in all my 4 years. He is extremely picky about grading and makes you do assignments until its perfect, I'd rather get 7/10 then move on. This makes students fall behind a lot. His grading system is terrible, his syllabus is 34 pages and so confusing. Do not ever take his class, it's awful and will drive you insane.
Awesome professor! Might take a couple of weeks to understand the structure of his class but once you get it is super easy. You determine your own grade and there is so much flexibility.
After reading reviews I took in consideration of those who rated him greatly. I'm very organized and do assignments beforehand, but this professor really tested my patience. Will return assignments if not 100% to his satisfaction, tests are super confusing and rushed with workload of all other assignments. I definitely do not recommend.
The professor's grading system is confusing at first, but it is pretty easy. Only way to fail is if you do not do any work. He gives plenty of time to submit assignments, and encourages students to attend office hours. He actually wants students to know what they're doing, and that is why many find his class stressful.
Literally so awful. This is supposed to be an intro-level class, but does way too much. I do very well in all my other classes and the only way to get a passing grade in this class is if you do 60+ assignments all on your own. His syllabus is over 20 pages long. When you try to talk to him about his poor grading style he just brushes you off.
Great personally but when it comes to work this course can be a lot to deal with. You just have to make sure you write a to do list to stay organized. Write down all the assignments and their due dates , try your best to complete them early. It was cool but not the easiest course to get through. dedicate 2-3 hours of studying for sure.
Don't waste your time. His grading system is useless and confusing. As an entry-level course, he makes it 100x harder for no reason. All of what he says is heavily opinionated and the entire course is made up of his 'research' and point of view. He also makes comments about his health as though it is an excuse to be a horrible person.
Interesting course, and the lectures can be helpful for other future classes. The grading system however is horrible, with the way to see what your current grade is is very confusing. The syllabus is over 20 pages long, and it is an extremely heavy load in order to get an A for the class. Reaching to a C is fairly easy if you manage weekly workload
Just don't take him.
God he was f-ing awful. Never again.
This professor is honestly great, he is very understanding when it comes to his student's personal lives. If you take his course be prepared for A LOT of work if you want an A in the class. Attendance is mandatory, and if you miss a class you're subject to falling behind very easily. This is NOT a math class, it is more terms and concept based.
He is the worst professor ever in the Sociology Department. His expectations are way too HIGH for my taste. He acts stickler and grades very tough. There are so many assignments that MUST have a perfect score! Avoid this professor! Please do not take him for the sake of your GPA!
This professor lets you do the work on your own time. He isn't going to tell you each week what to be doing, it's more on your end to do it all on your own time. If you want an easy pass for a C you can do six assignments from bundles. It may seem confusing but trust me it's not. It's an easy class just do your part. He's very upfront.
Coach is horrible the work required is just too much and he makes things harder than they need to be he is clearly not in touch with the times he doesn't know how to talk to people or not be condescending when he talks if you are reading this just know If you pick his class and you are at a university you will regret it
Run Run away now This was by far the worst teacher I have ever had during my college years I sincerely hope Cal State does not give him any more classes believe the reviews that you see above and run away now while you have a chance
This class requires a lot of your time and if you decide to slack off it's going to be hard to get back up on your feet. If you are not ready for slot of work do not take it otherwise the grade depends on you and your own work.
He has an odd grade system, but I don't mind it, you basically choose your own grade by deciding what modules you want to do. He does return assignments back to you and grades it as incomplete until you fix whatever he wants you to, which gets annoying if he returns it multiple times. The class wasn't hard, it felt like a lot of work but easy.
Easy class. He's very clear on what he expects. Everyone complaining either slacks off or rushes thru HW. Make sure when you're doing each assignment you read the instructions thoroughly to avoid having to resubmit (which will make it seem like even more HW). You work on your own pace. His workshops actually helped me a lot with my writing.
This professor is passionate about his work and teaching, it shows through his very detailed oriented syllabus and modules. He provides a list of modules to complete for a specific grade and prepares you for what to expect. It can get hectic without time management. He MAKES you redo INC assignments, he believes in learning through one's mistakes.
don't take him if you want to pass this class with a C this class is for you because he makes you do optional assignments in order for you to get the grade that you want and as well his grading is so dumb because he wants everything to be the way that he wants it so yeah
Professor Sanford's Soc 368 course was disappointing. His syllabus was confusing, and I decided to take a chance on his class. He goes by "Bundles," and even though I completed some of my work, the grading system was frustrating. He only gave one point per assignment, and overall, it just didn't feel worth it.
Absolutely the worst professor I have had by far. The material itself isn't horrible but the execution is. Super hard to understand the grading system and you will have tons of time consuming homework. He forgets we're adults and not in school full time. Do NOT recommend at all.
This teacher finds ways to not give you full credit and complains and minus points off just for not numbering your questions, any little thing. I wish I read about him before signing up. I would like to help future students and tell them to not take his class.
Class looks overwhelming at first. He grades by bundles. You just have to pay attention at the beginning of his lecture and the overview of the class. It seemed hard at the beginning, but you start to pick it up and figure out how the class goes, and it gets easier
Class kinda sucks ngl it's like so confusing at first cause it's like he throws a bunch of workload on you, He also grades by bundles, and you need to complete at least 6 of his bundles to get a C in the class. Lecture videos are kinda long, and some assignments you can't move forward with until you meet the satisfactory level for him from the old1
The class itself is not hard and the professor is a nice guy. However it is just way too much work. The class assignments take so long to do although they are not too difficult. Very time consuming class.
