Do not take his class if you want to learn plasma physics. His heavy homework focused on stupid math and could not help students understand course materials. It seemed to me that he was giving a lecture about math rather than plasma physics.
Willing to take feedback and adjust course accordingly
Wasn't clear about course structure and exam dates, but was very flexible and accomodating. Lectures were very focused on derviations of equations rather than their applications. Overall, super nice guy but could have been more organized and structured.
Very approachable, and was open to feedback regarding the course and teaching. Difficult course in terms of content, but recitations were helpful on the homework and further understanding of the course. Attending lecture and reading helps a lot on some otherwise difficult concepts.
Great professor, very personable and easy to talk to. Very accommodating and understands that students have a lot on their plate. Lots of homework, lots of reading quizzes. Reading quizzes really tested knowledge of the material. Homework tended to be more difficult than the exams.
Wasn't very clear on course or grading guidelines, but was very accomodating and provided a generous amount of ways to make up for bad performance.
I had a really good time in this class. He was clear about the subject and found that I enjoyed taking the course far more than I was expecting. It's nice to see a professor that actually cares about the subject matter they're teaching.
Professor Sefkow does a good job of explaining all of the material necessary for the course. The homework and tests come from material covered in lecture, and the assignments do help build understanding for the material. My only gripe is that he is not very organized and his schedule is just wrong, so it is hard to plan ahead for his class at all.
There were a few organization issues on his end making it hard to plan ahead but he was very accommodating and gave us opportunities to gain credit back on assignments and worked to fix any issues. As a lecturer he did an effective job teaching us the information and would check to make sure we got the concepts and you can tell he cares.
I thought that professor Sefkow did a good job teaching Fluids. He was very respectful and listened to the students. The only complaint I have about this course was that it lacked structure so one could not plan accordingly. Overall I enjoyed this course and learned a lot.
He is a very respectful professor that cares about his students and their outside commitments. However, he shows up late to almost every class or right at the time lecture starts. He loves to hear feedback from students which is unlike most professors but he had a lack of structure in the course. Overall, I would have him again.
Professor Sefkow is very open to student feedback and answering questions during class. He was easy to talk to and would take student's concerns into consideration when making decisions about the course. The only problem I saw was that things seemed a bit disorganized sometimes.
Professor Sefkow is incredibly catering towards students. He is constantly offering extra office hours and other resources to help his students. The TA lead recitations are somewhat useless as it heavily relies on the quality of the TA leading. The course grading scheme has changed multiple times throughout the course which has been a bit annoying.
Professor Sefkow takes time go deeper into questions presented in class and reflects an ethusiam over thoughtful questions that I haven't encouned often as a student. He makes an effort to memorize all the names of students in his class which made me feel more seen. It is clear that he enjoys teaching the subject.
very approachable and helpful professor. exams were really conceptual and hard for me. I did ask for help and he responds well over email and gave some advice. Lots of opportunities for improving grade.
Professor Sefkow is always willing to listen to feedback and truly does carefully consider each student's input when given. He teaches the material effectively and is clear on what material is important during his lectures which is then reflected in the assignments and exams. He is always willing to clarify anything during office hours or by email.
The Professor is approachable both in and out of the classroom, and he will pause for any question a student raises in class and respond to students' problems during his office hour. The content is difficult due to the nature of fluid dynamics, particularly the derivation of equations and concepts, but HW & test problems rely less on hard calculus.
I was pretty nervous about taking fluid dynamics at first, but Dr. Sefkow was able to explain concepts very well and was very accommodating. It's very clear he cares about students actually learning the content and wants everyone to do well. He is very positive and enthusiastic about the subject. He is definitely my favorite engineering professor.
The class is not too bad overall as long as you do the work. Most material is directly from the textbook. I wish he added more practice problems to go over in class. You can tell he cares about his students and gave multiple opportunities to help grades out throughout the semester, even though a few of his test questions were unfair/unclear.
Professor Sefkow genuinely cares for the success of his student. He always make sure to ask if students have questions during lecture and is readily available with office hours. The class can sometimes be a bit disorganized since he may occasionally cancel lectures. The recitations are also lackluster since you are just given solutions to problems.
His tests, weren't very reflective of the homework problems/review given to us. Throughout the semester he's also changed the grading scheme multiple times which seems nice, but with doing this has also made an optional project required with only 2 weeks left in the semester. Prof Sefkow had great intentions, but the way he did it wasn't the best.
Super nice person, however, lacked in being a great professor. The professionalism has been all over the place this semester with the syllabus changing and often showed up late for class. Syllabus changes were slightly understandable since this was his first semester teaching this course, but threw off students for the expectation of the course.
Very reasonable with assignments and exams, just don't try to use the bills as a excuse for a homework extension.
Professor Sefkow is an extremely caring and accommodating person. He regularly asked students how they were feeling about the course and welcomed feedback. Lectures were a bit hit-and-miss. Sometimes, he would present the content well and clearly, but other times lecture felt disorganized and confusing. The course generally felt a bit disorganized.
Professor Sefkow knows the material of the course very well and provided reasonable material to go along with it. However, he is very disorganized; often late to class, completely changed the syllabus in the last two weeks of class. Was his first time teaching it so it might be easier for him to plan for things in the future.
This professor has a great awareness of students' needs in class and ensures that every student is appropriately addressed according to their needs. He is excellent at teaching and structures his course with recitations which proved helpful. He also provides additional valuable advice to students not doing great in class.
Overall, the professor is doing a good job giving lectures to students. His exam is quite challenging for students. He cares about students' opinions and always think of improving the teaching methodology.
Professor Sefkow is very friendly and caring for his students. Despite his relative lack of experience in preparing for lectures or the method of organizing rubrics throughout the semester, which involves multiple changes and is pretty confusing, his intention is genuine and respectful.
Professor Sefkow is very caring and passionate professor. He always tries to reflect on students' opinions and thoughts, and he tries to give students a variety of chance to improve grades in different ways. Exams might be a bit hard, but if you focus on his lecture and his recitation class, you'll do great in the class.
The professor did respect the students as he tried to remember everyone's names. The content of this course is harder than the exam and quiz, but some of the conceptual question and concept are not explain well. You do need to read the textbook inorder to do the homworks and quizzes, but the workshop is useful as half of the hw is covered.
Professor Sefkow is caring and accommodating as a professor. As a student athlete I had travel come up for a game when one of our tests was scheduled and he made sure to accommodate me taking the exam at a different time. He also is also hosts office hours often to talk about any concerns you may have with the course. Easy to talk to and helpful!
He cares a lot about the students and the class but was very disorganized and changed the grading scheme too frequently. It was his first year teaching this course so I'm sure that he will have a much better idea of how to organize the class next time.
Professor Sefkow is a very friendly and enthusiastic person. He clearly loves teaching and cares a lot about how the students experience the course. His homework are designed to encourage participation during recitation and read the textbook, making the course less stressful while emphasizing the crucial topics.
Professor Sefkow is a great professor overall. The lectures tend to move fairly quickly because of the 50 minute class time; however professor Sefkow makes sure to inform students of his availability outside of class. He is very eager to help in office hours and willing to make accommodations to work with students with grading, assignments, etc.
The lecture is taught pretty clear, and the homework is helpful for understanding the main points from the book.
He cared a lot about his students and tried to fit the course to their schedules. However, this did lead to a little confusion as the syllabus kept changing. Overall very nice professor who is very interested in the topic he was teaching.
Overall, the professor is doing a good job giving lectures to students. His exam is quite challenging for students. He cares about students' opinions and always think of improving the teaching methodology
Overall, the professor is doing a good job giving lectures to students. His exam is challenging for students. He cares about students' opinions and always think of improving the teaching methodology
Prof Sefkow is very down-to-earth and funny, it's clear he cares for his students, always asking what he can do to improve. However, he did have a semi-disorganized style that was especially uncomfortable to those who rely on testing accommodations, ie. not knowing when a midterm/quiz is scheduled until days/hours before.
Professor Sefkow is a great professor, his lectures and assignments are explicit and valuable material for the exams he gives. There were a few mix-ups in terms of scheduling in this course but overall he is very caring and considerate of students and their other commitments.
Professor Sefkow shows respect for students. He is always open to feedback and you can tell that he tries to help students out when he can by offering extra opportunities to improve your grade. However, the course was quite disorganized: he showed up late to class regularly and did not follow the syllabus.
Professor Sefkow was teaching the class for his first time so it was a learning experience for him, with a few mistakes here and there, but he was accountable and made up for them. He was open to feedback and constructive criticism which is great. He always tried to understand the student's situation and be academically accommodating when necessary
Professor Sefkow genuinely cares about this course and the student who are taking it. As it is his first year taking this course it is understood that some changes are to be made to the syllabus as the semester goes on. However, I feel he was too accommodating to students in that people took advantage of his flexibility.
Cares a ton about students! Has a strong understanding of course content and lectures well. But, his flexibility to 'help' the class grew over the semester into a mess of undefined projects, unclear due dates, and anxiety. He has the personal/academic skills to teach well, but did not display any logical planning in design of course operations.
Professor Sefkow was a good teacher, and always was very approachable. It would've been nice to have clear course expectations defined from the start but that's my main gripe.
Professor Sefkow is extremely intelligent and coherent during his lectures. He knows how to structure lectures and recitations so that students wish to participate, and it is clear that he wants all of his students to be successful. He is always open to helping a student outside of class, and he makes sure that we all get the assistance we need.
Prof. Stefkow shows great knowledge and enthusiasm for the course he teaches. He has been a bit disorganized with the course schedule, nonetheless he has cared for his students well being and has provided students with as much as information as possible to succeed in his class. There is space for improvement when regarding course structure.
Professor Sefkow cares a lot about this class, but he is too disorganized. The homework keys he used often had errors, he was never clear about the grading system of the class, he set unreasonable assignment deadlines, and he made multiple changes to the syllabus until the end of the semester.
Professor Sefkow is great, but the class itself is challenging. He truly cares for his students and looks for ways to help them improve. The main issue was the class structure and organization overall. His tests are hard since he combines problems from homework/recitation into exam questions to challenge problem-solving skills, so be ready to study
Professor Sefkow was always receptive to feedback and willing to take accountability. He also was willing to be flexible for students. His teaching style emphasized big-picture ideas rather than getting caught up in little details.
Professor Sefkow is a great professor. His lectures are clear about the materials and the homework was helpful. He cares about students a lot and he listens to the various opinions.
Professor is very receptive to students, and sets clear expectations for the course! Extra help is made available to complete assignments, and exams are pretty fair if the assignments and recitations are understood.
Professor Sefkow is very knowledgeable about the topic of Fluid dynamics, It was his first year teaching the course so there were some bumps along the way. He handled these issues to the best of his ability and it ended up being a good class. He was sure to answer any questions in class and go into detail about them so students can understand.
Professor Sefkow is very smart and dedicated to his profession. He did a solid job teaching ME225 this semester.
Professor Sefkow is a very knowledgeable and dedicated person about fluid dynamics. He has a great passion about the subject and clearly wants to share his knowledge with his students. As a first-year teacher in such a comprehensive and intense subject we faced some inconsistencies with the course schedule that he handled very smoothly.
The concepts are introduced in class, and writing out textbook examples in homework helps with understanding. The professor is very approachable and understanding. Exam times are sufficient and good for slow workers. However, the course (hw, quiz, exam, project) is not quite following the schedule, kinda hard for people who like to plan ahead.
The class is a tougher course for sure but if you're willing to show you care about the course then Sefkow is more than happy to accommodate and be reasonable. Honestly for an engineering professor he is super fair and really nice, just start the homework early and attend class for the pop quizzes (which he sometimes lets you make up if you missed)
Professor Sefkow is very nice and cares about students. He is willing to accept feedback and change accordingly. He also provided opportunities to improve grades. This was his first semester teaching the course, so at times it was a little disorganized. I believe in future semesters this will not be a problem.
Professor has a lot of availability to ensure students understand the concepts. Cares about student's question, concerns, opinions, and feedback.
Professor Sefkow is a great guy and really means well, but tries to please everybody. He changed our grading scheme multiple times to try to please people in our class, but it really ended up making no one happy.
I thought he was really chill and understanding. Taught the material well
Prof. Sefkow does a great job making his lectures interesting and informative. He makes complicated concepts digestible for his students and makes himself available for help and questions. He clearly cares about his students.
Overall a really good professor. Just wished he gave us more time for us to study for midterms but other than that, content was actually digestible and he was a decent lecturer.
I loved the way Prof. Sefkow ran lectures. He always slips in these funny jokes while lecturing and I mean, when you're listening to fluid mechanics explanation, any joke will make you laugh (nothing against fluids :) The instructor is accessible, helpful, knowledgeable of the subject, and always able to relate it to real-world applications.
Professor Sefkow was very engaging and provided excellent guidance throughout the class. No complaints at all.
He's a good professor and very obviously cares for his students. He also makes the optional recitations very useful to go to by covering half of the questions on the upcoming homework during that recitation. However, he is very unorganized. The exam dates would constantly change and would not match with what the syllabus had originally said.
He changes the schedule whenever he wanted. Try to please everyone without actually pleasing anyone.
Very good professor, very understanding and offers good support so don't hesitate to reach out! Go to lecture and recitation, actually read the textbook (especially helpful when making cheat sheets), and you're all set for the class
Always changing syllabus until one week before the final week.
Unreasonable final and project grading.
Always changed rubric for grading. Even change the exam date arbitrarily.
Prof. Sefkow is great at taking complex topics and breaking them down into more digestible pieces. He really cares about his students and keeps the syllabus very flexible depending on their interests. His class felt more like a discussion. His lectures can be dense, but he's very open to answering questions and focuses on understanding.
I took Plasma 2 as a first year graduate student. He was amazing and made me feel more confident about my knowledge coming from Plasma 1. His lectures are neatly written and contain full sentence explanations so write down exactly what he writes. I loved the spurious discussions as a class when someone asked a tricky question, rather than avoid it.
Professor Sefkow emphasizes a lot how important it is to understand each topic and uses great examples as often as he can so that the material covered can be understood more intuitively. Always open to any questions regarding the class and also discusses implications of the material into other topics.
Professor Sefkow is an incredible and caring educator. With his detailed, flexible teaching style and engaging discussions, I enjoyed learning the course material on a deep level. He always made himself available outside of class hours and would adjust due dates and exam restrictions based on open communication of class feedback. Amazing lectures!
Was having a really rough year and professor Sefkow helped make it a lot easier. Really good guy and professor
Definitely make sure you have access to the textbook for this class. His lectures line up almost perfectly with the textbook, so it is a great resource for supplementing what you learn in class.
Sefkow is a solid professor. His lectures are pretty solid, but it is tough that he doesn't post lecture notes or anything so try to make it to class. Homework, recitation, etc is pretty manageable and it is nice that recitation is tied in with the homework.
Uses relevant examples from the textbook to assist with the material, answers everyones questions, and does a good job making sure all the material is covered. Make sure to have the text book.
Great person who cares about his students. Course could have moved more swiftly to better cover the harder content.
Professor Sefkow's lectures are thorough, and he follows along with the textbook very well, so if you need to miss or skip lectures, you can catch up on your own. Homeworks are graded a bit harshly, exams have conceptual questions. He is very reasonable, I contacted him about potentially missing an exam the day before, he was very accommodating.
Prof. Sefkow is an approachable professor that does listen to the needs of the students. The lectures were good, however sometimes they felt a bit repetitive of the textbook. Homework grading was tough later into the semester.
Professor Sekfow is difficult yet fair. While his assignments and exams are extremely challenging, his grading criteria favors those who are willing to put in the work. Be prepared to work very hard in his class.
Class is based on the textbook, so good to have access to it. Recitations are very helpful for doing the weekly homework. Exam questions are fair. He is willing to listen to the classes concerns and input on assignments, but sometimes is a little disorganized.
He is very accomodating with students' needs and really seems to want students to succeed. Lectures aren't recorded and he doesn't post his notes though so attend class to get the notes which follow the textbook pretty chronologically. Not many examples during class at the beginning of the semester which made the material more difficult.
He basically recites the textbook, but the examples he uses are very thorough and got better over time. Willing to accommodate students, and not too hard of a grader. He is decent at explaining if you ask for clarification. Homework is very useful for understanding. His course was easy for a fluids class. Didn't cover enough material imo though.
The lectures are good and they cover most of the book. Recitations are helpful with the homework. Quizzes are tough so be prepared to study for them.
Teaches very closely to the textbook - getting your hands on a copy is a must. Lots of diagrams and examples, drawn well on the board in lecture.
Reading is important as the textbook goes along with the lectures. There were short in class quizzes every couple of weeks. Recitations were a great help for the homeworks.
Reading can be super important since the lectures rely on the textbook. Fair on exams and homework. Recitations help tremendously for the homework.
He is a tough grader and asked the TAs specifically to grade harder. There are reading quizzes that often are on things he never taught. Doesn't post notes, only writes small and messy on the board. He's a very nice guy, he just isn't the best professor.
Professor Sefkow is overall a pretty nice person, but not a great professor. He doesn't post lecture material so going to class is a must. There is a lot of information he does not go over so you will definitely need the textbook. He gives reading quizzes are tedious because you practically need to memorize the chapter word for word to do good.
Solid professor. He speaks clearly, gives a lot of examples, covers the material, and is open to student feedback. He mostly read directly from the textbook. His ability to go "off script" was rather limited. He gave the students opportunities to improve their grade, but his rubrics were frustrating. I had neither a bad nor exemplar experience.
Clearly restates content straight from the textbook in his own speaking style. Is very clear in his words.
Clearly restated content straight from the textbook, in his own speaking style. Very nice.
Very kind and made himself available outside of class time. However, he followed the textbook very closely and there was an imbalance between long mathematical derivations and useful practice problems/practical applications of the material. Grading was stringent, but not unreasonable.
He seems like a nice guy and explains things well. Doesn't record lectures or post notes unfortunately. The way he runs the class seems like he's very new to teaching. Follows the textbook to the letter, his lectures are textbook recitation sessions. Sometimes provides materials to help study for exams but sometimes not? TA's carry the course.
Good professor! I would choose him again. He is very approachable and easy to talk to. If you miss a quiz, you can always go to his office hours to make it up, and he will patiently answer all your questions. He's also an easy grader, but you should be prepared to spend time reading the textbook to succeed in the course. Highly recommend!
He is a very nice professor, but his lectures strictly follow the textbook and do not explain the material enough for full understanding. Be sure to attend recitations, as the TAs will go over homework problems and help prepare you for the exam.
Professor Sefkow is a nice guy, but he mostly just lectures out of the textbook. I almost never felt like I got anything out of the class that I wouldn't get from the book. He is very available for students, and during office hours would explain concepts in a way I wish he did in class. He also started grading harder partway through the semester.
Prof Sefkow is nice and cares about his students. However, lectures aren't engaging and he only uses the blackboard. He doesn't record or post lectures. His handwriting can can be illegible, due to spelling mistakes and small writing. Homework can be difficult and may require a TA to teach you. Can be a harsh grader. Beware of hard reading quizzes
Fantastic professor, he makes learning fun.
Professor Sefkow is a great professor. He takes the time to help his students when they ask, is compassionate, and understands busy schedules. His quizzes can be difficult. The professor wants students to get the most out of his class and will explain confusing concepts in a one-on-one setting.
Inter-personally, he is nice, but the class can be slightly disorganized. If you do not read the textbook and try to understand both the equations and the concepts, you will have a hard time. If you go to his office hours and try to care, he'll walk you through the whole problem, answer and all. Lots of questions on the assigned homeworks. So-so.
Professor does a great job of communicating and explaining material, also a really nice individual. Sometimes grading criteria can be a bit confusing so just do your best on everything.
