Professor Shafer explains problems step by step to make sure you understand. He doesn't get give too much homework. In my opinion his tests were easy, he gives you review sheets that are pretty close to the test. He is a bit boring but very easy to pass. I had a 98 the entire semester.
Great professor, and I will take him again in the future if possible.
Professor Shafer is a fantastic teacher. Very nice personality, funny, and great at explaining confusing or difficult concepts. He's very nice to his students and is always ready to help. definitely recommend him, especially if math isn't your strongest subject. You will enjoy his class.
I took him for intermediate algebra and though I am very good at math, this class was super easy!
Statistics was really easy! His lectures are pretty boring but overall the material was fairly simple. If it weren't for the computer i would've fallen asleep on more than one occasion, but he's a really nice guy who offers help if you need it. I would recommend it because its super easy
Great professor! Made Statistcs really simple to understand, and the study guide helps a lot because it looks almost like the exam. If you have any questions he makes it known that he is there to help, and he also wants his students to succeed in the class. If math isnt your strongest subject, I highly recommend taking him!
TAKE HIM!
Do the work and u will pass. Lectures are long and unbearable at times but take good notes and do the the review her give and u will pass
TAKE HIM! He explains math so that it become easy.
Excellent teacher! Teaches at a good pace. Keeps office hours, so you can ask for help out of class. Reasonable amount of homework, 4 exams, and a cumulative final. Offers extra credit. Very easy to understand. Did not use the textbook, just buy the WebAssign access code. I HIGHLY recommend taking this professor, whether you're good at math or not.
He recommends 3 to 6 hours of studying. If you don't have the time, don't take his class. He's a good professor overall, you just have to work really hard for a good grade. For such a easy class he makes it pretty hard. I wouldn't take him again.
I took Professor Shafer for statistics and this was the first time I've ever passed a college math class without struggling, stressing, and needing a tutor. He makes it so easy to understand, he gives great exam reviews for you to study, and he is more than happy to answer any questions whether it be over email, in class, or during office hours.
Professor Shafer was literally the BEST math teacher I've ever had since high school. He explains EVERYTHING clearly & really helps you understand math. The lectures can be long, but he takes his time making sure you understand the material. He's always flexible & available for you after class. I will definitely take him again for College Algebra!

Great professor! He really makes math very interesting! Grading scale is very fair, lectures are thorough and precise. Also, quizzes everyday to keep you on your toes.
Shafer is the most patient math professor! He gives excellent notes, you're given a week to do homework assignments, and his tests mimic his study guides. He made this class painless for me and I'm not too strong in math. He's very nice and always willing to help! I wish I would have taken him for my other math classes last year! TAKE HIM! :D
Mr. Shafer was an amazing math teacher! I took him for Statistics. His lectures can be long, but the homework is so easy and only 3 tests throughout the whole semester, that is up to you of course to keep up with studying etc. to earn your grade. I would highly recommend him for future math courses, because he cares for you and wants you to pass.
Professor Shafer is amazing! His lectures are clear and he explains every step of each problem. If you have questions, he is there for you. He is quick to respond to emails. Be prepared to study! He gives take home exam reviews one week before each exam and if you use them to prepare you will get an A on each one! No book, just online code!
Professor Shafer is a great math teacher. He gives great reviews for the exams and gives great lectures. You will be expected to do your homework and study, but as long as you keep up with things/ask questions when you have them you'll be fine.
Really great professor. His lectures are very clear. He breaks everything down and repeats himself multiple times to make sure everyone is on the same page. I am very bad at math, but he made this class easier. Pay attention and take notes, and you will pass the class.
The one thing that I really didn't like about him is that tests are 80% of your grade. Homework and quizzes are only 10%, and I'm not a good test taker so I found this annoying. He gives quizzes everyday so if you skip, the quiz is a zero. His lectures are good but if you ask a question he's not very clear on the answer & doesn't help much
Awesome teacher, he may seem tough at first because he tries to not answer too many questions while going through sections because he says to just wait till he finishes and your question will be answered (Usually always true) then if you still don't get it or need any additional he is willing to help during his office hours. Overall, he's great!
As long as you pay attention to his lectures you will pass. He gives out lots of examples for his statistics class and the homework REALLY helps in understanding the topic. All of the homework is online. Tests are not hard either. He is also willing to explain anything to you over and over again in various ways until you can easily understand it :)
Overall, Shafer was an outstanding professor. I have taken him for College Algebra as well as Statistics and he teaches very well. It may seem like he is moving fast at times but he does it so that you have a class to review for the test. He gives quizzes almost every class but they help a lot and are not worth too much! Do homework, study, pass.
Easy Class!! Professor Shafer is really great in his lectures. He will explain everything over and over again. He likes to make sure everyone is learning the material. Homework, quizzes, 3 tests and a final. Just do your work and you have an easy A. Would take him again for any other class.
Awesome professor. Every due homework comes with quiz on it, so be prepare. Tests arent difficult at all. I really recommend this professor.
Having failed Statistics 2023 (online) in the Spring, I was not sure how I would do in a class on campus. Seeing that it was also the B session, I was very apprehensive; however, Professor Shafer accomplished for me in six short weeks what I failed to understand during the entire Spring session! He is truly a gifted instructor!
Awesome professor! Pop quiz arent difficult and are only 5 question from the hw. Tests are easy. My final was my highest grade.
Professor Shafer was amazing, took him for college algebra. He is truly passionate about math and projects that onto the class. Provides reviews for all tests and final there is a 1 question quiz each day based on the homework and lecture and is extremely helpful. All in All, great professor 10 out of 10 do recommend
Professor Shafer was awesome, he cares a lot about math and knows his stuff! Great exam reviews that will help you pass the exams, not too much homework and very helpful. If i showed up on time to class to take the quiz in the beginning of class i would have had an A, but finished with a B. Overall awesome teacher! Take him!
Shafer is a cool guy, very easy to approach for help, but boy does his class kill you. If you want the A, you're really going to have to study study study. He is awesome with examples and gives good feedback, just make sure to show up to class. There is no textbook required, but you will need to buy a code for MyMathLab.
Professor Shafer was probably one of the best math teachers I have ever had. He explained things in a way that I enjoyed and found easy to digest. I usually have a hard time with math classes but I am very glad I took Professor Shafer. Quizzes at the beginning of class really help (only 1-2 questions). Statcrunch was invaluable.
Professor Shafer is a really great professor, his lectures are good and he doesn't give too much homework and has a short 1-2 question quiz on the homework due that day. Take notes on his lectures and do the exam reviews and you will do well on the tests. Took him for college algebra and statistics and got an A in both.
If you have trouble understanding math definitely recommend. Goes over the material piece by piece. Explains very well and clearly states on what you will be grades. However he is not all that energetic so his lectures can get tiring. Also, all homework is done through mymathlab.
Professor Shafer does a great job of teaching this class. He will work through a problem on the board and then go back and reteach it to help you to better grasp it. If you consider yourself a good test taker TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. I got 100% on all 3 exams and since exams are 80% of your grade it benefited me.
Would not recommend.
Solid choice if math isnt your thing. Explains everything so clearly and in a way that EVERYONE in class can understand. PowerPoints for stat class are SUPER helpful to review. Test reviews are great. Reviews info in class before every test. ONE OF THE BEST PROFFESORS OF MY COLLEGE EXPERIENCE!
Kinda a nice guy, but sadly wields his limited power like a weapon instead of a tool to teach. I've seen him be ruthless to special needs students. So um ya nope outta this one.
Professor Shafer is an extremely good math professor. If you don't understand something, never be afraid to ask him to explain it again! The course is pretty quiz-heavy, but they're short and most of the time if you show your work you still get partial credit even if your answer is wrong.
goes through each problem very detailed and writes everything out which helps out a lot. It's important to do good on all the tests and always do the exam reviews which he gives out a week or two in advance. He takes his time going through the problems so if math is one of your weaker subjects, I would definitely recommend taking his class!
Professor Shafer is a good choice. He does well at explaining the concepts and is very kind. I truly enjoyed the class, it just was a lot work as math does not come easy to me. However, it was very rewarding in the end.
Good class, teacher is very helpful and wants you to past, Office hours are great and easy to find office, always emails back
His online courses were set up very straight forward. Each week you do your homework assignments through MyMathLab. Exams carry majority of grade. (3 total) He gives partial credit and alters grades. I had a very hard time in algebra and this was mt 2nd time taking it. Struggling to pass he gave me every chance he could find (partial/xtra credit).
I took Shafer for College Algebra and again for Statistics. In both classes I couldnt recommend him enough! Hes such a great guy, definitely dont be afraid to ask questions in lecture if you dont understand whats going on! Theres a quiz in class every time an online homework assignment is due, so definitely keep up with that.
I wish i could've completed this course with Prof Shafer because he was a good teacher and caring guy but i got mono and bombed my first test. He has 3 tests that are 80% of the course grade and i just couldn't bring my grade back up. He for sure knew his stuff and had good power-points but it was just bad timing for me.
Very responsive and attentive. Makes sure you know what is coming up. Great lecture videos. This class currently uses MyMathLab, which is not as good for studying as some of the other programs out there. But if you have trouble with anything, he is happy to help you through it.
Loved this teacher! Ive always been iffy with online classes but this professor did a great job teaching and explaining every lesson. There are 4 tests and quizzes each week but they are easy plus the lessons wont take long to watch and take in. He offers ex credit plus all study guides are ex credit as well. Answers emails fast & helpful & nice!
During the transition from f2f to online, Shafer did nothing to accommodate to his students needs. He still made the exams twice as hard and difficult to understand while also using Lockdown Browser. His extra credits were only a couple of points while exams were still worth 60% of the final grade. This is the first class I have ever failed.
I have NEVER done so well in a math course in my life. Professor Shafer made sure that every student in his classroom understood the material. He would break down each math problem step by step just to ensure everyone was on the same page. His workload was reasonable, and the homework assigned actually helped refresh what we learned in class.
One of the best math teachers i've ever had, he breaks everything down and makes it very simple and easy to learn, and will sort out any mistakes on homework or quiz/tests. 10/10
I had professor shafer fo Algebra. I liked this class until he withdrew me from his course with no warning because i went on a yearly family vacation and didn't sign in for attendance even tho I did my work 2 weeks early. He was a okay teacher nothing bad nothing special but you make sure youre signing in for attendance or he will screw you over.
Statistics is not hard, there is a lot of writing involved, but there's a lot of math that you don't need an entire 50 minutes to learn. At times I could write down a formula, sleep through his class, and be done for the day. Pearson's stat homework is actually very helpful when you get an answer wrong. DO NOT get stuck with him online (pandemic).
Loved Professor Shafer. This is probably the best online class I've ever taken. He offers lots of extra credit, the chapters are short and he provides videos for every topic with clear, easy to understand explanations. Not a lot of homework but you have to understand the concepts. Gives feedback and partial credit for tests. Would gladly take again
Take this professor! Great videos and examples. The subject can be a little difficult but he gives tons of extra credit. I thought I was going to be a B or C but ended up with an A because of the extra credit. If you put in the effort to learn the formulas and practice it can be a somewhat easy A, especially with the extra credit.
Professor Shafer was a great guy. He was very nice and not mean in the slightest way. He uses StatCrunch which makes things so much easier. If you remember the steps in StatCrunch and do not overthink it, you'll pass. It's not like a normal math class remembering formulas. I would recommend this class as a last, easy math class. Good luck!
He is an approachable, easy going professor. His exams are easy and he gives lots of extra credit. He also takes your lowest exam grade and averages it with your final exam grade to replace the low one. But make sure to attend lectures and take good notes
I always had the hardest time in math class, but Prof. Shafer made my life easy. You have to show up for every lecture because if you don't you'll be lost for the rest of the unit. There's also a lot of homework and quizzes due twice a week, but if you take the time to do them and show up to class it's almost impossible to fail.
Adam Shafer was the best math teacher I have had at Seminole State. I would recommend him to anyone looking to take calculus at SSC (already signed up for his calc 2 class). He completely lectures off of his slides which are clearly laid out (never uses a textbook). COME TO EVERY CLASS AND PUT IN THE WORK AND YOU WILL HAVE A STRONG CHANCE TO PASS.
This was the best math teacher I've ever had at Seminole State! He teaches from lectures, that are available on canvas. I highly recommend going every class and if you do the reviews for each test, you will pass the tests. He is very helpful also if you have any questions! So take him if you have the chance!!
I took this class online. Professor Shafer provided a clear outline of assignments/due dates week by week. He also provided a PowerPoint and videos to accompany each week. He literally spells everything out. I'm visual, so the materials he gave were perfect. He leaves feedback and is quick to respond to emails. I'd definitely take his class again!
Took MAC2312, had a good overall experience for Calc 2's reputation for difficulty. Lecture heavy, detail and repetition oriented, a short quiz at the beginning of most classes which incentivizes you to learn the content in real time. Ample study material and manageably difficult exams, all around good teacher.
Great professor. Calculus 2 is always said to be a difficult class, but taking it with this professor made it very understandable and fair. Grade is based on online homework, in-class quizzes which correspond with each homework, and 5 exams (including the final). Exams are very fair and this professor provides plenty of study material for them.
Such a great professor. This was my third attempt taking STA but first time with this professor. I passed with a B. Plenty of extra credit opportunities and he replaces your lowest test grade with the average of your final. Definitely recommend!
This was my 2nd time taking STATS, but my first time with this professor. First things first, if you don't put in the effort, you will not pass. However, Mr. Shafer always gets back to you when you reach out for extra help or guidance, and he provides great feedback on the assignments and exams you submit. HIGHLY RECCOMEND THIS PROFESSOR!!
Prof Shafer personifies an amazing teacher. His lectures and PowerPoints provide all the necessary information required to pass his class. He goes into great detail explaining the hows and whys of solving all problems you'll be presented with within his class. As long as you watch the videos and do the assignments you'll fly through the class.
Professor Shafer is very kind and answers questions quickly. But the resources he gives for the class aren't that helpful and his lectures are so short - I often had to look up videos or go to tutoring to figure out the problems. The first half of the course is way harder than the second half. The second half was a breeze - all done on Statcrunch.
He does not respond well to questions, do as much practice on your own as you can; the material is not very difficult but is a little hard to grasp at times. I did not enjoy his teaching style; it was like reading from a book. Take someone else if you can.
I was stressed about this class because I didn't do well with my other math class. He made the class 10 times easier. There is quite a few assignments and 4 exams that are on camera. He gives a lot of partial credit if you are on the right path to answering the question.
Professor Shafer was great! I understood everything so well and thats a lot for me as math is not my strongest subject. Gave good test reviews in class and lectures were good. Also provides extra credit for each test and gives partial credit on tests as well. He grades attendance as well though so try not to come late as he takes attendance asap
If I could rate this individual a zero star I would. So, I spoke to him multiple times via video conference and took tutoring and this guy is so by the book he will fail you just for not showing both sides to a blank piece of paper on a proctored test. Hopefully, this is the highlight of his career.
Very fair and forgiving.
This guy deserves no more than 0 stars. He will deduct points for the smallest things. I got a 0 on an exam because he heard someone that wasn't in the same room that I was in. He doesn't respond well to questions. If you go over 10 minutes to submit work for an exam he'll give you a flat out 0. Thanks to him I won't graduate, hope he gets fired.
This professor was very understanding. The powerpoints he created were extremely helpful and I was able to obtain a good understanding of statistics by the end of the semester.
Professor Shafer helped me understand math for the first time in my life. Gives good feedback and responds to emails fast. 100% recommend
10% of your grade consists of 20 quizzes, which you need to be on time to class for, 10% homework, most of which were pretty long (don't think that's his fault), 60% tests, 20% final exam. tests are pretty much designed for you to pass and he's generous on partial credit. Next to nothing is online, but he's a good teacher and will answer questions.
My class would start at 9:30 and he would already be doing attendance for tardiness at 9:29,IF he wasnt already doing a quiz that you would miss if you were five minutes late. Also, if you submit something in late it is AUTOMATICALLY 50% off. When I was paying attention to his lessons I felt like i wasnt learning anything. Worst math prof Ive had.
Always attend his class and just pay attention to the homework problems that is done. Lectures are well-thought and thorough, he also gives a lot of examples to help you understand the topics of the chapter.
It was a blessing to have Professor Shafer as my statistics teacher. He is very understanding and helpful. He provides multiple resources for help, even making videos showing how to solve each kind of math problem in the course. He offers good feedback, tons of extra credit, and is a lenient grader. I recommend him for anyone taking the course.
Do not take his online statistics class! He will fail you on a proctored test for not showing every square inch of your house during the environment checks. If you excel at doing questions via formulas rather than using StatCrunch, he will fail you for cheating. Maybe he's a decent professor for his in person courses, but stay away from online!
Professor Shafer is a great teacher, but the class is very hard. You have a quiz every day starting the second week. HW is due the week after he goes over it in class, and the day it's due, you get the quiz. It's usually only 1-4 questions. Overall, he's a nice guy and is willing to answer any questions.
I took this online, and it was a very easy class. I went through the PowerPoints to figure out how to do everything in StatCrunch and did the homework, which took a max of 2-3 hours each week. Very generous on partial credit on tests and gives good feedback. He's also very responsive to emails.
direct, helpful, great feedback
Soulless and doesn't care. treats the job like a boring 9-5
