Prof Tamo is awesome!
prof tamo is amazing! his classes are extremely entertaining and his laid back attitude makes reading the books enjoyable! def. take his classes! you will be so happy you did!
He makes even the most dreaded topics managable and enjoyable. Great teacher!
AWESOME teacher!
Easily the best professor I've ever seen. He is full of energy and is so enthusiastic about teaching; it makes class extremely fun and easy. If I can ever take another class with him, I would jump at the opportunity. What a great guy.
one of the best professors i have EVER had; energetic, friendly, funny, brimming barrel of kitsch.
this class would most likely be the class you would skip IF Tamashasky wasn't the prof. You have to go just to be engaged in his stories and interpretations of readings. Totally down to earth and relates to students, great professor.
I don't know if Tamo is still with AU or not, but he's easily the most engaging, interesting, fun professor I've ever seen. I would do anything I can schedule-wise to take his class, if I were you.
One of the best professors i've ever had. his energy is booming and he's hilarious. he challenges you though, so he's definitley not a pushover. take his classes!!! you'll love them.
Wow, tamo has to be the most energetic teacher i've ever had. he actually cares that you learn material and become a better writer.
Prof. Tamo is everything that a professor should be: challenging, motivating, and more than willing to help. His class is well-structured and assignments force you to improve your writing skills. Very entertaining, easily my favorite class.
Be advised that Tamo's classes are challenging. However, he is a great professor. Extremely organized and enthusiastic. Assignments are hard, but are always clear and he is always willing to help. Take his class.
Tamo is very challenging- but since he is a great prof he makes up for it. He makes class a lot of fun, but he is a hard grader. If you like to be challenged, I reccomend no greater class. Tamos awesome.
Engaging prof, knows lit through and through. I was really upset when I didn't test out of this class but it was by far my favourite this semester, made so entirely by Tamo. The random emails he sends out while preparing the classes were sources of great amusement. I'd gladly retake this class.
Great prof. He loves his students and does nothing but try to get them to think independently. Not an easy class, especially for people who are not great writers. I still managed a B and it was the most satisfying B I have ever received. If you have the opportunity, take his class!!
Great class, but make sure you always go to class and get to class on time. Never take a morning class with this guy. I learned alot from him, very interesting. Work hard and you'll get alot out of his classes
Very energetic. Class delves into intriguing and interesting discussions. Assignments are unique and allow the student to write on topics that relate to their own personal life and interests. I became a better writer, and would not have wanted to take college writing from any other professor.
he's really overrated and quite annoying...too much reading about nothing...very liberal and waste so much time doing stupid quizzes...he wants u to think he's cool...he's smart...but he won't give u an A...tough grader, and it's often really boring
He gets really annoying. Class becomes the same everytime and the class discussion become montomous. He grades very difficult, and you never know exactly what he wants. BORING AND HARD!!! take someone else.
Super nice and helpful. Always makes you laugh. A seriously tough grader.
Doesn't moderate discussions at all so they just turn into shouting matches between two people. Only reads non-fiction/memoirs, not much variety. Hard grader, but not a lot of work involved; no short assignments. Gives stupid reading quizzes that make u feel like ur in 7th grade. condescending.
very cool and engaging guy, class is very entertaining, very difficult grader on papers don't expect A's but i felt like i learned alot, he can be very nitpicky and takes off alot for minor details but u learn to be a better writer
A good, ethusiastic prof. He often throws references from the Simpsons, Star Wars, etc., into his lectures. The class is entertaining and he is helpful, but watch out for his every-class quizes. They hurt you in the end if you miss a few classes. Papers get progressively harder and much reading.
He is an enthusiastic professor, but his lecture is not interesting. It's getting boring and harder. Also, he is too religioustic and very hard grader. If you want a good grade, don't take this course.
Tamo is an amazing professor. My only regret is that he doesn't teach more classes. Do the reading cause there are quizzes that can make or break your grade. Tough with papers, but you'll come out a better writer. Plus he's super dorky fun!
His energy will prob keep u temp awake in the 8:30 class but the class discussions always turn into shouting matches bw a dem and a republican.... it gets old fast. He is also a ridiculous grader... chances of getting an a are slim.
prof tamo rocks!
Could his ego be any bigger? This class isn't about college writing, it's about "Tamo". At least he things he's funny. He's all excited, sure, but all he does is yell alot and then he gives us bad grades and makes us feel like we are all stupid. I don't see why I should have to take this class. We are not learning anything. Avoid.
High expectations? How would anyone know? He's too busy blustering and lecturing. (Isn't this supposed to be about writing?) It seems like he's so preoccupied with trying to impress us that he doesn't teach us. I don't find him intimidating; I find him ridiculous.
fair warning...RUN! the class starts out interesting and fun but soon turns into a forum of who can impress him the most. extremely unfair grader and SUPER anal about citation. so if you know MLA like the back of your hand, you're in good shape. do the reading to do well on the quizzes which will make or break you brownie points=knowing comic books

Do not be fooled, this professor is awful. Tamo may give the appearance of being humorous and a decent guy, but in the end he turns his class into a forum for disgruntled liberals and atheists. He also tends to forget that he is teaching basic college writing and grades too hard. DO NOT take him.
Prof Tamo is awesome. He is really willing to listen to his students and if there's something you don't like about his teaching or the class he'll help change it. He's not that easy but you'll be a better writer after the class. He's also just a really good guy in general.
The New Yorker Course is awesome
AMAZING PROFESSOR! Honestly, he is demanding but a great guide. He will make sure you understand the material and improve the quality of your writing exponentially. You may not agree with him on everything he says but he is respectful and he will make you learn how to win in arguments. Very fun and outgoing, tough grader, but worth your time! :)
Tamo is awesome. My favorite professor at AU so far. A tough "A" if there ever was one, but you'll always remember this guy. Great course material. Genuinely cares about students, and still carries on correspondences several semesters after the class ended. Highest reccomendation.
I LOVE TAMO!! Seriously this was one of the most challenging courses i've taken and I LOVED every minute of it. If you get a chance to take one of his courses.. do it!
Tamo is the best professor I have had so far. His class was also the hardest, but he is helpful and the class discussions have been my favorite part of college thus far.
Prof Tamo is the greatest professor at AU! His course, the readings he assigned, essays were always interesting and made me do even more research on topics. He is understanding, helpful while still challenging. Do go to his office even just for fun! Prof Tamo is the best
Perhaps the best professor at AU, by far. He knows what he's talking about, and does whatever he can to make you a better writer. Quiz questions can sometimes be annoying, but they make you a better reader. He's the nicest guy in the world outside of class, and although an A is almost impossible, taking his class is still an amazing experience.
Hardest professor ever, had him for College writing. Almost impossible to get an A, and also hard to get an A-. Ton of writing, ton of reading, very very hard grader. To give him credit, he is a nice, pretty cool guy, just super hard and a lot of work.
He is the most difficult Prof. you will ever have but you will emerge form his class a far better writer than you could have imagined. He is always entertaining and generally a great guy! Do the reading, participate and ask questions. Done expect an A.
If going to college means learning to you then DO take this prof. You will learn a lot not just about the world but about yourself. Majoring in Political Science I've expanded my knowledge in different areas. I've taken him for both LIT 100 and LIT 101 and haven't missed or been late to any of his classes. His office hours are fun and helpful too
I was placed into 100 and although it kicked my butt, I learned more with him than with any teacher I have ever had. I chose to take him again for the New Yorker 101 and it was the best academic decision I have ever made! A's are impossible, but he is still 100% fair. He isn't just a professor, he is a mentor and now a true friend.
Prof. Tamo is so much fun, his class is really reading intensive and he usually gives a quiz on the reading the day it's due. He is really helpful if you ever have any questions. Use his office hours to go over your papers it helps a lot.
He's a very tough grader but the type of teacher that leaves one scratching their head at the end of class, in a good way. He's very fun, but make sure you proof read your papers A LOT
His classes are tough, but our discussions were always interesting and very usefull. It is rare to find a professor as engaging as he is, and though the work load is quite large, I highly reccomend his course.
Class was extremely engaging and interesting. Make sure to read the NY articles thoroughly and look up words you don't know. Prof Tamo is awesome. My only complaint is that he doesn't really have a grading rubric, so its hard to understand how you got the grade you did. Other than that, it's a great class and will improve you writing drastically.
Prof. Tamo is amazing!! Though the material can be challanging, he is ALWAYS willing to help out and is sooooo nice. i hope i can have him again next semester!!
this guy is hysterical, and class is always very enjoyable, even something to look forward to. but prof tamo can be the biggest **** sometimes. i can honestly say i have never had a teacher, let alone another human being, say such mean and degrading things as he has to me. unless you are a published writer with thick skin, i don't recommend him.
Hardest but BEST class ever. (Never laughed so hard in my life than during his classes.) Take Tamo if you want to improve your writing exponentially in a short amount of time but be prepared for a huge workload. Definitely go to office hours for help.
I took Tamo's college writing class last year, and it was literally the best class I've taken at AU. This guy's hilarious, bright, engaging, and insightful. He has the ability to improve every single one of his students' writing skills. If all you care about is getting As, take this class: it'll bring you down to Earth (it did for me)!
One of the best professors at AU, extremely interesting but also challenging. Makes you a much better writer. A lot of reading, but discussions are mind shattering. Highly recommended.
Very difficult professor, has clear favorites and makes no attempts to hide it. Gave no direction on essays on graded on extremely high standards for a non writing based, 200 level, gened course. Do not take him if you care about your grade! Made me hate LIT!
I took Tamashasky last year in his New Yorker class. It was great--he totally took my writing past where I was, which most profs might have considered "good enough." If you can look past probably not getting an A, you should take any class you can with him. One of the two best profs I've had so far at AU.
Sure Prof Tamo is hard, but he is approachable, energetic, engaging, and actually cares how you do. Be engaging in class and he'll love you. His essays are graded way too hard in my opinion, but if you come up with an outrageous topic and either pull it off or come close to doing so you'll get a good grade no matter what.
Tamo is a really hard grader, but he is a very nice guy. He is very helpful and easy to go to for office hours. Thing is, its nearly impossible to get an A on essays and the quizes suck. But try to find very creative ideas for the essays. Something you are really interested in and that maybe he doesnt really know about. It will help your grade.
Tamo's class will challenge you greatly. Making As in his class is almost impossible, but don't let that stop you from taking the class. College is not about making all As, its about learning. However, remember that making an A is possible, I know this for a fact. You have to have bold arguments and well written papers, and he will teach you how.
I hated writing until I took his class. Great professor. I learned a lot about how to write for the reader and how fewer words are often better. Be prepared to analyze the text a lot and contribute to class discussion.
I've taken a lot of english classes and this guy is the best english/writing teacher I've ever had. He's super passionate about what he does and he fires you up about your own work. I was never a fan of writing before his class and he taught me to love it. He also respects you enough to tell you the truth when you write something weak. Boss.
HE. IS. AWESOME! I don't even like writing, but I looked forward to his class. He is hard (Definitely don't plan on an easy A), but you will learn a lot and become a better writer/reader! He is incredibly passionate about what he teaches and will gladly work with you with anything. Plan to work hard, but have a big return!
Probably the BEST professor I have ever had (and ever will have). Expects a lot, but does a brilliant job in engaging with his students, and keeps things interesting. HE. IS. AMAZING. His classes will change your life.
Great teacher, though he is a hard grader. Very funny and interesting. If you are up for a challenge and want a great professor then take his class. If you are looking for something easy then stay away.
Prof. Tamo is an EXCELLENT professor. He really knows how to engage his students and he's HILARIOUS. If you're looking for an easy class, do not take it--it's hard, and at times the classes can be a bit repetitive and boring, but what do you expect? It's College Writing. He made me a better thinker, writer, and a better person in the end.
PT is THE BEST! Engaging, absolutely hilarious, mind-blowing class discussions. He has the ability to improve every single person's thinking and writing skills in just one semester. I doubt I will have another Prof. like him again. Do not take LIT-100 with anyone other than Tamo - you will not be disappointed.
Tamo was literally a pleasure to learn from. He is one of the funniest people, let alone professors I have ever met. And although sometimes (usually at 2 am in the library) I hated him, he undoubtedly changed how I view education (positively).
Helpful but too much work
Professor Tamashasky was awesome!! His class really discouraged me at the beginning. However it made me a way better writer in the end. He is not a tough grader, he just expects work to be flawless and well-researched/planned.
Fun class that really does make you a better writer.
The work load is insane and his standards are sky high. it's driven me to tears sometimes, so I don't know why, but he's probably the best, and my favorite, professor I've had at AU so far. Really easy going in person and very helpful at office hours. expects a lot, but the class is totally worth it.
Tamashasky is one of the greatest professors I've had so far. But he is DIFFICULT!!! You have to make sure you're putting the effort in, but if you d, you will get amazing results. He is also the most helpful professor I've had. I took him last semester and still go to his office hours for help in other classes. Take him if you get the chance!
I'm still in his class and I'm doing Creative Writing and I love them. The thing that makes him different is that fact he watches Doctor Who. I would take this class again even though I'm not a Littheatre major.
Great Prof.. really learned so much with him for my first semester. However, beware. This guy has given out like 12 A's in his 10 years of teaching. It's a lot of work and after really putting in the time, and even being praised for my improvement over the semester, a bit higher of a grade I feel was earned.
Prof. Tamao was a prof who was just about always eager to help. I will say if you take his class, be prepared to work harder than ever before. He can be condescending at time and may interrupt, he still helped in better using sources and doing research for papers. Made classes about writing more bearable due to his humor and animated personality
Professor Tamo is one of the best professors at AU you will come across. He is conscientious, helpful, hilarious, and knows how to bring what he is teaching to life. His honest grading helped hone my writing skills. His classes allowed for open discussion which deepened underexplored thoughts and perspectives. His class is worth AU tuition.
Prof T is the best writing teacher at AU. I will not lie, there is a bunch o reading, but he makes the class SO MUCH FUN!! He is always available for feedback, very clear and fun lectures and overall just a funny dude. He is a tough grader but he gives detailed info on what he expects so it's not that bad. Overall a great class, would take again.
Expect a quiz every class and a lot of reading, but he's interesting and full of energy throughout class. Plus, he throws out great innuendos.
Professor Tamashasky is one of the most hilarious professor's you could probably ask for. His class can be difficult but with a strong work ethic it is manageable. He's very entertaining during class so it doesn't feel so boring. If you get the chance, take his class, it will be beyond worth it.
Great Lectures. If you have a valid excuse, he doesn't care. Kinda "Tough Love". Or just "Tough", no Love. Kinda Cold Heart-ed.
Prof Tammo does a beautiful job establishing a true connection with each and every one of his students. Throughout the College Writing 100 course, you are assigned 3 big essays. On the first two, he writes a page worth of feedback for you and you will have an opportunity to rewrite one using his feedback at the end of the semester. Great guy!!
He must not think that his students take other classes, because he assigns more work than all my professors combined. He requires at least 75 pages of reading and a 2-3 page essay to be completed for EVERY CLASS. As a reward, each class additionally includes a reading quiz. If this weren't bad enough, the assignments are mainly time wasters.
Do not take this class. His quizzes are ridiculous- it's not about content, he will choose five random words from the assigned reading and ask you to define them. That's it, so basically you have to read the book and look up all the words that you don't know and define them to pass the class. The reading is terrible and he is unhelpful.
Really tough grader, but it prepares you for future paper. His class is really fun to take and he is a really funny guy who keeps you on your feet and interested in what he is saying. Really cool guy, just really harsh at grading.
Professor Tamashasky's classes are fun to take, but be prepare to work for your grade. He requires a high degree of performance that goes above and beyond the written requirements. Semester is broken into two sections: poetry then prose, with a portfolio due at the end of each unit. Don't be afraid to try new things and ask for help.
Argumentative Writing was the one class I would look forward to each week. I had no idea what to expect, but PT was one of the greatest professors that I had so far at AU. He gives very insightful lectures and his enthusiasm about each piece of literature adds a new depth to his class. I recommend going to his office hours as well!
If you care about your grades and GPA, don't take this class. This class has way too much reading for a writing 101 course, expect 60-100 pages a class. Also there are ridiculous quizzes where he'll take 5 random words from these readings and expect you to know it- overall, DONT DO IT
Prof, Tamashasky made a subject I dislike into something I looked forward to. He taught me more about writing in one semester than I learned in all of high school. If you want to become a better writer, take his class.
Professor T was great but the class was really hard. I took him for college writing 101. He is such a cool and fun person to have as a teacher. His class was very difficult though. You have to read everything he assigns or you will not pass. There is a quiz every class on the reading. Kind of a hard grader but also helps your writing improve.
Way too high of standards. He expects work from his students that has no errors and is innovative which is almost impossible for freshmen writers. His critiques are not helpful nor clear. A few of his attempts to be funny are actually really offensive. The final exam is when you learn the most and partially makes up for his faults as a professor.
Tamashasky's class was the hardest class I took my freshman year, but I can say without a doubt that he made me a better writer. I usually just get As on my papers with no real feedback-- Not so with PT. Class was incredibly difficult, but he's a fantastic guy and keeps it engaging. If you want to be a better writer, take Tamashasky.
All right, so sit back and get ready to work. You will not pass unless you try. The course itself is very interesting. I love reading about Lincoln and Darwin, but the professor will quiz you on random words within the chapters. However, the classes are engaging and fun, just pay attention and you'll do fine.
I found the class to be very difficult, if you are not ready for pop quizzes and a large amount of work be prepared for a surprise. If you have difficulty going through dense reading daily this class may not be for you. There are also pop quizzes every day.
his college writing class was easily the most difficult and time consuming class i have taken so far in college but it was 100% worth all of the time and effort put into it. He really cares about his students and keeps classes engaging and interesting. couldn't recommend it more
He is not good at explaining assignments or the point he is trying to make in his lectures and his assignments are worded in a very obscure way, making them hard to understand. He is an unreasonably harsh grader with subpar feedback. Going to his office hours CAN help but only holds in-person meetings once a week. Lots of boring and long readings.
NO NO! When I took this class, I checked ratemyprofessor, a majority of the people here said he was tough but good just a few semesters ago. All lies. Now I just want to point it out to the freshman and sophomores to watch out. Make sure you check student evaluation on MyAU before you even take this class. Adam is terrible. I didn't learn anything.
He definitely makes you work for your grade but will improve your writing immensely if you put the effort in.
He's a really good teacher and pushes you hard to get the grade he believes you can achieve. If you don't do the reading or take notes during class, you'll probably struggle. He's also fun and really cares about his students.
Great professor and will really challenge your values and ideals. Very quiz heavy, expect to be heavily annotating every reading but honestly it really contributed overall to the quality of the discussions held in class. Very knowledgable and respectable.
Always made his classes interesting and fun, you never get bored in class. Labor based class so you do need to put in the effort but at the long run it helps you to become better at the material. Would recommend him 100%.
Professor Tamashasky is one of the best writing professors I've ever had. His class is solely labor driven, meaning that your grade is certain to be a B if you meet all the labor requirements. Papers don't receive a grade at the end. Class is made of 3 essays and some small assignments. As long as you do the work required, you will be fine!
Incredibly difficult and grades unreasonably harsh considering that it is a 100 level course. Unreasonable expectations for a freshman course, and seems to take pride in n this difficulty. A's are incredibly uncommon, good luck if you attempt this course.
PT is a really great guy to take if you are prepared to be engaged and work hard. It certainly won't be an easy A but has made it clear that he is willing to help in any way he can both in his class and regarding the school in general. He's smart and will meet you where you are as long as you put some effort in.
I dont like him at ALL! He is ruthless and will fail you even if you put in the work, he also only listens to feedback from certain students of the class... never liked him never will.
PT is genuinely the most caring professor I've ever had. He cares not only about ur grades & ur performance in his class, but also about U. His lectures are full of jokes, & he really wants his students' input. It's really discussion heavy, so make sure u do the readings if you actually want to understand. He just wants u to learn as much as u can!
such a cool concept of labor-based grading!!!!! He really wants you to learn and not stress over a grade! If you do all the work, you automatically get a B-- if you do a little more work you can get an A really easily. This ensures that you'll grow as a writer by a lot
Don't know why he received the 1 "star" review. Cares about the students in his class, like his children. Realized during quarantine that some stuff was bigger than schoolwork. Read the required material and take good notes for the quiz. Had a lecture based class and, although skeptical initially, was a great choice. Would take again, 100%
PT's been the best writing professor I've had in my entire academic career. The class is completely labor-based, ultimately making the students responsible for their own grades. He offers extra labor options and gives AMAZING critical feedback on all of your work. Decent Amount of Work < QUALITY education. Choosing him was the BEST decision!
This man is an actual legend. He is one of the nicest professors I've ever met and his class is labor-based so automatically get a b if you hand everything in on time. He is so nice and responds to emails fairly quickly and clearly loves teaching and getting to know his students. Could not recommend more
Really fun and funny guy. He really builds a sense of community in his classes. Gives AMAZING feedback to help you grow as a writer. I don't even know how he has bad reviews, any reviews that say otherwise are so wrong! Easy class with lots of support and accommodation from him. Take the class!
This course was very hard for a freshman class. There was a ton of writing every week and a number of pop quizzes on random words from the readings. I would not recommend this course.
PT is amazing! If you have the opportunity to take his class DO IT! His class is labor based so that takes some of the pressure off. Effort is still expected. Creativity is encouraged. Best writing teacher you can take.
I might be in love with PT (sorry if you see this!) Honestly, he's the nicest teacher I've ever had. He loves to talk and teach about writing to an insane degree and he made me think my writing actually matters. Its not even for a grade because he doesn't use grades, but somehow he still makes us all care about what we're writing. Take him!
He is an amazing professor with an amazing personality. He is open to hearing everyone's thoughts and he's very knowledgeable about the latest on social media. There are a lot of readings, but they're all interesting. If you engage in conversation and do the readings you'll have a fun time conversing in class. He is the best WRTG prof out there.
PT is literally the BEST Professor!! His energy and passion for writing are infectious, and he is chill and open to hearing everyone's perspectives. He gives really diverse readings and he makes the class fun and created a community, even when we were virtual. He gives excellent feedback and truly cares about us as people. DEFINITELY TAKE HIM!!!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE PT!! He is by far the kindest, most invested professor I've ever had. His class makes me so happy to be a part of, and I cherish our discussions. He cares so much for his students and is willing to go above and beyond. Words cannot describe how much I adore this man, please take his class!
He is definitely open minded to different topics, so he is an easy conversationist. You'll find out he's very passionate about Coates if you take his 101 class. Mostly weekly readings and RRS to complete. There are a few essays, which is normal. He's a very nice guy and very supportive of his students. Highly recommend! WRT-101-033 was the best!
I LOVED PT. If you have the opportunity to take a class with him, do yourself the favor and sign up. His class is lively and never boring. He offers great feedback on essays and has amazing choices for required reading. Please, if you get the chance, take a class with PT.
Literally such a great prof! This course was labor-based which was refreshing yet manageable. Classes were always enjoyable and PT genuinely cares about his students.
pt is a cool dude and very smart. doesn't do grades, just completion, but it makes it hard to care or put effort into the class. gives some bull assignments sometimes and can be very condescending when you ask him basic questions about the class. overall a very stress-free experience but a little tiring with structure
highly recommend taking his core-107 class if you want to participate in class, and not worry outside of it. participation based, so automatic b if you show up and do the work, but optional extra credit if you want an a. i would advise against taking his class if you don't like in class discussion, since thats the bulk of it. but overall, loved it
PT is the most enthusiastic and caring professor I have ever had! Would absolutely take his class again. He is the best!
PT is a really fun and fair professor! The gradeless system makes it hard to care about turning in high quality assignments, but class still ends up being lots of work since he does assign more work to turn in than most profs. He makes discussion in class really fun (as long as you can handle his high energy) + cares about his students a lot.
PT is the absolute man. The class doesn't have a traditional grading system, which pretty much takes of a ton of stress. There is a lot of work, but as long as you just get it done, you'll get a good grade in the class. He's accessible outside of class, and willing to work with you on due dates. He cares that you grow and learn, which is nice.
Professor will make the class lively and engaging. He is also very caring and understanding. You will do great in the class as long as you try!
hes so fun and personable I felt like his actual friend. labor based grading so as long as you show up and turn things in you will pass. I took his West Problem of Evil class and it was the most interesting class ever. feels like late night stoned chats about the meaning of life its so much fun and enlightening
PT is literally the best. If you have the chance, please take him!! His classes are labor based so as long as you meet all the labor requirements you will end the class with a B, but if you'd like a higher grade you can complete extra labor. PT is such a cool and funny white guy!
PT is incredibly sweet and understanding. I struggle with reading/writing, and I thought that having a passionate teacher would help me do well. Sadly, I did badly in this class. LOTS of reading outside of class and confusing texts made it hard to keep up. But if you're passionate about literature, you'll love this class. Just wasn't for me.
Professor Tamashasky was truly an amazing teacher to have for this class. He is clearly very invested into the material he teaches, which is invaluable. His grading style is also well suited to a writing class, since it lets you experiment in whatever way you want without fear of impacting your grade. I would absolutely recommend his class to all.
PT is an exceptionally educated man in his field and is capable of conveying dense philosophical material in an engaging way to even the most uninterested undergrad. Fair grader and understanding in times of crisis, I would absolutely recommend this class to anyone.
Awesome guy! He actually understood how to teach us how to write and always made class engaging. He asked him if we could push back a paper's due date and he did it without question. Only thing to be weary of is that he does labor based grading, basically meaning if you don't do extra credit you will get a B in the course.
The one qualm I have with his class is his "labor-based" grading system, as it can be a bit confusing. He is very VERY funny and casual, and if you go with that flow, you will have a good time. He offers a lot of extra credit and is easily accessible during office hours!
The West's Problem of Evil is his element, but because of this, some of the philosophical questions can be a bit loaded. There is a LOT of reading as well as a comprehension homework for each, and they can pile up if you miss just one. He does, however, offer a lot of extra credit.
overall great guy! he cares about his students as people and is totally willing to change the class to fit the needs of the students. If you can take his class.
PT is such an awesome professor, I am so lucky I was able to be in his WRT 100 class this past semester. PT provides great feedback on essays, does labor-based grading, and makes me excited to go to class. Take PT if you have the chance, it'll be the best decision you ever make.
PT is a hilarious teacher who is really passionate about what he does. I love himThe class is really heavy and got a bit out of control and accusatory instead of respectful at times. You need to be able to both stand your group and change your opinion. The labor based grading system means you have to do a ton of extra work to get an A which sucks.
PT is one of the best professors you can take at AU. He uses a labor-based grading system, which means you are guaranteed a B as long as you show up to class and have no missing assignments, although you can do extra labor in order to receive a higher grade. This took much stress off of the class.
Tamashasky's class is very low stress because there are no grades. If you do every assignment and a couple extra assignments you will get an A. He genuinely cares about his students and their well-being. He will actually read your papers and give multi paragraph feedback so you can improve. Taking this class is the best decision I have made.
Labor based class makes it so as long as you do the work, you get a B. If you do extra labor, that can increase to an A. PT focuses on feedback rather than grades, so if you put in the work, your writing can improve a lot. PT is super accessible during drop-in hours and is super friendly even if you're talking about something other than school.
PT is the absolute best. He is always so happy and eager to come to class. Discussions are fun and he challenges us to think differently. Highly recommend taking PT if you can
One of the best profs at AU. PT uses a labor based grading system, which means there aren't traditional grades. Everything is just based on completion and you automatically get a B, but there are extra credit opportunities to bump your grade up to an A if you want. Feedback on writing is amazing & this class has truly made me a better writer.
PT is one of the greatest professors of all time! He always made me want to come to class and discuss whatever topic we were discussing. There is a lot of reading, but you'd be perfectly fine skimming it. He grades based on labor, so you are guaranteed to get a B, and only have to do 3 extra assignments to get an A.
One of the most energetic and caring professors you'll have at AU. Grades are done through completion/effort, so they are pretty stress-free. If you need help or clarification, he's very easy to get in touch with and very understanding. We read 4 books throughout the semester, all fairly philosophical. I hate reading but they were good books.
HIs class is graded on a labor-based system, so you are pretty much guaranteed a B if you turn in all assignments. If you want a higher grade, there are some optional assignments that you can do to raise your grade. He's a kind, hilarious, and caring guy. Wouldn't recommend him enough.
PT is an amazing professor with an infectious energy. He never fails to make class fun and engaging, and he very clearly cares about every student. The class is labor based so he provides a lot of great, encouraging feedback instead of a letter/number. Attendance wasn't mandatory, but I never wanted to miss this class!
PT is an awesome professor who uses a labor-based grading system - as long as you do the work, you'll get a B. Engaging lectures, helpful feedback, and friendly office hours. unstuck ai is a great study tool too!
Hold up....PT is goated
The best professor. The West's Problem of Evil is very evidently his favorite class to teach, and his passion for the class makes it just as fun to be in it. Labour based grading makes the discussion-heavy classes enjoyable.
PT is such an engaging prof! Looked forward to class because of his energy and hes so funny and clearly passionate about what he does. For his Coates and NY class, get ready for weekly readings and HWs, but they are not difficult and there is an engaging class discussion. Labor based grading and extra credit available to get an A.
3 major essays with a bunch of exercises to prep for due almost every class. Very enthusiastic and caring. Lots of participation opportunities. He uses labor based grading so you'll end up with B but the extra credit stuff to get an A is so easy you have no reason not to do them. Would gladly take him again.
Really cool guy and a super fun class. Grading is labor based, so everything is graded on completion and timeliness but you will have to do extra work to receive an A. Classes are discussion based so doing the readings is a must. Would highly recommend if you find the subject interesting, he's a super passionate and caring professor.
PT is the greatest professor at this university, bar none. He does a great job of explaining complex moral issues in a fun and engaging way. He's caring, funny and overall just a chill guy. His class is labor-based, which means there's a good amount of reading (about 40-50 pages a week), but it's graded only on completion. Awesome class overall.
Took PT for the Coates class and I couldn't recommend this class enough. For a 9:45 class he was always energetic and excited to hear all ideas. Gave very good feedback on essays and gave tips on how to improve. Wants all of his students to succeed. Uses labor-based grading so as long as you do the work plus extra labor you will love this class!
Automatic B. Very engaging and a really good professor
So, his class is labor based which is a good thing. If you turn in assignments, you are guaranteed a B even if the paper is bad, as long as it looks like you tried, you're going to get a B. You have to do extra assignments though to get an A which is easy it's just a presentation in front of the class. He is funny too so I would take him.
Super funny and nice. Really understanding. He makes lectures fun even at 9:45am. You will need to do extra credit for anything above a B but it's not too bad.
One of the best profs ive had. PT is kind, inviting, and incredibly informative. Hes lively in every class and you can really tell he cares about his students.
PT is wonderful. I had him for Core 102 and WRT 100. Made my 9:45 so much fun. He does this job for the love of the game. He is always happy to see his students and even makes Core 102 interesting. wrt 100 is labor-based, so u get a B, but extra credits bring u up PLS DO THEM it's lit so easy, just a presentation YOU pick. core102 auto A.
Light courseload, but is very passionate about what he teaches. Also offers extra credit opportunities in the form of projects, presentations, and scoring high marks on exams. Very fun person to be around as well.
PT is a great professor. He provides great feedback on essays, and the projects was easy/self-explanatory. The only downside is sometimes he can come off as rude. His emails also seem harsh/rude as well but overall, he is a very easy professor but sometimes he expects too much for the instructions given. I would still take his class though.
With no exaggeration, this man is literally the nicest, most enthusiastic guy ever!! Encounter AU is super boring, but I really looked forward to it because of Tamashasky! The class is "labor-based" but honestly if you just do the assignments, you'll get 100. He is the perfect professor for this class!
