Great professor. There was 6 tests throughout the semester with the lowest grade being dropped. Every section had homework for the book you could do for 8 points extra credit. Information comes from powerpoints and if you do the homework you will do well on the tests.
This class was very hard for me. He expects you to know an insane amount of material but he is the most helpful teacher I have ever had. He practically begs you to come see him for help and he takes as long as necessary to help you understand material. He is one of the best professors I have had at SVSU.
Very nice guy. Extremely helpful. Very friendly and obviously knows what he's doing.
Dr. Warhausen is one of my favorite professors I have had at SVSU. He is very personable, funny, and easy to listen to. He goes fast throughout lecture, but if you print out the powerpoints, you can keep up fine. He also is helpful during recitation and in the CAA. I am very happy I had him as a professor after hearing friends complain of theirs.
Dr. Warhausen is an awesome teacher. I'm definitely a right-brained person, so I had a lot of trouble keeping up with all of the new math. I found his tests extremely difficult. If you're a left-brained thinker, I think you'll do awesome in this class! He made himself available for help, but I never really found it useful going to his office hours.
Dr. Warhausen is an awesome professor. The class isn't the easiest but he's super helpful and all you have to do is go to his office hours. He makes chem fun and interesting. He brought liquid nitrogen into class and actually poured it on my hand! Probably the coolest thing I've ever done in class!
Professor Warhausen is the best professor I've had at SVSU. his class is not easy, but as long as you do the homework, you'll be in good shape. He really does care about everyone in the class understanding the material, and actually teaches instead of reading from slides. 6 exams, and a final. HW for each section is worth 8 pts extra credit. KCCO
Professor Warhausen was a great teacher. I wasn't so good at chem, but by the time I was done with his class, I really thought that I was where I should be knowledge-wise. His recitations aren't mandatory to show up to, but I found them helpful. He's a great professor.
The only thing I can say that is not so great is his ego and his confusing powerpoints. Otherwise, this is your kind of teacher. Super involved with his students and can tailor an explanation to your understanding.
Dr. Warhausen is awesome! He is very helpful. Exams are very fair. 8 extra credit points for each set of homework completed. I highly recommend him!
Very nice teacher. Willing to help students and gives out candy at his office hours.
Dr. Warhausen is a great professor. I took him for Chem 111 and 112. Relays the material well. Teaches so that you learn the material, not just skate by. Gives extra credit for doing homework. Tests can be tricky but it's because he wants you to learn. I definitely recommend him.
Pretty good professor. His lectures are clear and easy to understand. The homework and tests are really tough but the homework is given as extra credit. The book is essential to passing the class and not skipping a lecture period.
Awesome professor & would defiantly recommend. He is very willing to help. His lectures are overwhelming but it's chem, its not an easy subject. I had to do a lot of work outside of class. personally didn't think the hw helped prepare much for the exams. Only thing I didn't like was he wasn't very lenient w grading. Gold Stars though!
What a cutie...I mean how can I not pay attention when i have a hottie professor
The course is only based on exams. Each exam is only 20 questions, worth 5 points a piece. He does let you drop your worst exam grade at the end. Still a difficult class, especially if you miss a few questions on the tests. He's very helpful in office hours and really pushes for students to come to office hours if they need extra help.
This class is not an easy but this teacher is really willing to work with you to make sure you know the material and gives ample extra credit opportunities. It is a class you have to work for but he makes it east to get help if needed.
Pay attention in Lecture, and take the time to do the homework. Homework is counted as extra credit, and it'll give you good practice for the test material. Tests were multiple choice, and not overly difficult. Pay attention and study and you'll do fine. Dr. Warhausen is super cool and I'd highly recommend him. He's young and down to earth.
I was worried about Chem-other professors are said to be tough and I usually flunk these kind of classes but even I was able to get a B even though I didn't understand much of anything! It's awesome! Take this guy! He's real nice too.
Absolute favorite professor I have ever taken. Your only grades are tests, there are 6 test in the semester but they are only 20 questions. He offers "homework" problems that are used as extra credit. He is great at conveying the material and does not rush the course. If you need help he is always in the tutoring center and always at his office.
Very good professor who makes sure that he is made available to his students. He does his best to help his students succeed in this very challenging class. He will always make special accommodations regarding his office hours.
Amazing professor! Don't get me wrong this class is hard, I myself had to fight every day just to pass this class but Adam is a down to earth guy who wants to help you. GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS! He will work with you! I basically camped outside his office, One of the most helpful professors I have ever had. Would definitely recommend him
Very nice guy and super down to earth and is always willing to help you but this class is SOOO hard. I failed and got a 46% in the class even with his help from office hours. All he does is read off the powerpoints and doesn't go into much detail, i always had to go to the tutoring center for help. Good guy, not a good professor though .
Very nice guy, however he often tries to cram way more into lecture than he should, especially in the last five minutes of class. Does not thoroughly explain important topics. There are several things on exams and homework that were not covered in lecture or in the notes.
I don't think he is a good to be a teacher or professor. Is hard to understand what he is talking about. I don't recommend anyone to take any class with him.
Pretty bad professor. His lectures are not clear and hard to understand. The homework and tests are really tough but the homework is given as extra credit. The book is essential to passing the class and not skipping a lecture period.
This class is the hardest class I've taken ever. Only reads off power points in class. If you miss a class it's very hard to catch up the next day in class. There is a lot of sapling homework to do as well only 5 exams worth 100 points and only 20 questions. Worst professor I've taken. He doesn't explain things well and makes you feel stupid.
This class literally says in the description to not take it as a general education requirement, which I did. He goes really fast through the slides, so it's easiest to just print them off, though it kills your print balance. He uses a free online textbook, and Sapling for homework and quizzes. Quizzes are homework, and homework is extra credit.
Worst class I've ever taken in college. This class is not a G.E. class at all. I do not recommend taking him. Lectures are way to fast and to much information. Even going to his office hours it didn't help.
One of the best professors I have ever had. He's very clear in lectures and is always willing to help outside of class. Go to recitation, helps a ton. Homework and quizzes are online which are a guaranteed 100% if you put in the work. 5 exams+final but he drops the lowest exam score. I would definitely recommend him!
Overall, nice teacher but tough class. Lectures are based solely off slides. Exams cover a lot of material for only being 20 questions long but the lowest exam is dropped. Homework (which is extra credit) and quizzes are done over sapling so if you put effort into them you should do well. Take the time to go to recitation, he will be very helpful.
HORRIBLE. If you are bad at Chem do not take him. He goes through about 45 slides a day on the PowerPoint and makes no sense. No study guides or anything. I had to reteach myself everything and failed his class. Even the tutoring center didn't know how to do his problems. Just take someone else for your own safety.
Very tough class but Warhausen makes it possible to pass. Go to recicitation, it helps a ton with the homework and quizzes. Put a lot of effort into the sapling homework and quizzes, because it will save your grade. Exams are very hard, but he drops your lowest score. He is a funny and kind guy who cares, so show up and put in the effort.
One of my favorite professors here at SVSU. In fact, I made sure that i got him for CHEM112 as well. Yes, he does make you work for a good grade, but that is the way college should be approached in my opinion. He challenges you but also makes himself extremely accessible for any questions and help you need. If he fits in your schedule, take him!
he is one of the most helpful professors. he speaks one thing so many time, you gonna get in on the mind. study slides and sums he is teaching you gonna get A- easily. For "A" you need to study hard.
Dr. Warhausen is by far the best professor at SVSU. I took him for both 111 and 112 and earned high grades in both. Unlike most professors, he doesn't teach off of the powerpoints but rather uses the powerpoints to teach. That being said, he can go through the material rather quickly but will always try to make himself available for outside help.
Adam is a great professor. He's really nice and funny. He really cares about his students and wants to make sure they understand. He makes himself very accessible outside of class if you need help. If you show up to class, do the homework, and ask for help when you need it you should be fine.
I'm not the best at Chemistry, but he made it easy to understand and actually fun to learn. The lectures do get boring sometimes. But he is easy to reach outside of class. I definitely suggest going to office hours because he goes so much more in depth and makes Chemistry really simple. I never opened my textbook either.
He is very test heavy! 20 questions...5 points per question... doesn't even look at work only gives you pints if it is right. Gives sapling extra credit! and also has homework on there! he is very test heavy and is lectures are fast and jammed packed. There were over 200 kids in my class and it was almost impossible to see him one on one.
He goes through the slides super fast. Even if you have taken chemistry before, he can be hard to understand. If you're not good at chemistry, do not take his class unless you want to retake it or end up dropping it.
Made coming to an 8 am class fun and interesting. While he does have 5 exams that are 20 questions it is easy to get points off. He usually curves tests. The sapling HW is extra credit and the quizzes are actual points. He takes time after class to help struggling students and even sits in the library to people who can't come to office hours.
I prefer not to take it with him
Overall, he's a good professor, but it's a hard class to keep up with. He gives extra credit for each homework assignment and all the quizzes are online. If you do the extra credit and use notes on the online quizzes, you'll be fine.
Great professor. If I had to take another Chem class I would take it with him. Chemistry is not my strong point, but he made it so easy to understand. In addition, he is available outside of class and in the library sometimes for one on one time to explain concepts if youre not understanding something.
The class was basically a review of high school chem/AP chem. The tests can be tricky, but you get to drop the lowest one and the online homework is extra credit. Prof moves quickly through lectures, but they are all on canvas so you can print them out. He is great at explaining topics in different ways and giving examples with clear steps.
One of my favorite profs I have ever had. Very funny, makes things easy to understand. My one issue I found was that his tests took the material much further than the homework or lectures did.
The lecture class is so big it's too easy to skip. He rushes through basically everything to make sure he's on schedule with teaching material, though he is very knowledgeable on the topics it's difficult to fully grasp the content.
Dr. Warhausen was a great professor. He explained all the concepts well in class and in recitation. By the time of the final exam, I had over a 100% in the class. Unfortunately, I walked into the 112 final thinking it would be as easy as the 111 and dropped a letter grade... Would highly recommend for general chemistry, no complaints!
Great prof for chemistry and lab
Dr. Warhausen really kept his students in mind for this class. He grades fairly and lets students have a say in things. Homework was extra credit. I highly recommend for Chem 112.
Dr. Warhausen is a great professor. He explains things very well. He is always willing to help whether it's during recitation or office hours. Recitations are very helpful. All homework assignments are extra credit earning up to 4 points for each hmwk. Exams are only 20 points so it's harder to receive an A. The lowest exam grade gets dropped.
Warhausen was an excellent teacher for Chem 111. His teaching is mainly based off of lectures, but he doesn't make you buy a book, which is definitely a bonus (textbook is free online). Chemistry was the subject I struggled with the most in high school, but he found a way to explain everything so that it was both engaging and made sense.
Professor warhausen is very nice but his class is difficult. There are 5 exams along with online homework (extra credit) and quizzes for each chapter. His lectures are all on a PowerPoint and he goes very fast. Overall, he was nice and caring but too fast for me.
He was a very nice professor however he moved really fast and required students to memorize a lot of information for exams. Dont take this class with any other science course.
He speeds through slides, which made it hard to retain any information he was giving us. Test were pretty difficult and really easy to make simple mistakes on. Recitations were not too helpful, only for sapling homework. He is a nice guy and super intelligent. You just need to put in the work. He does give a lot of extra credit through sapling.
If your a fast learner and dont need a lot of examples then youd probably do fine. If you need a lot of examples and need a slower lecture warhausen is not the professor for you. Also his tests are very hard, chem 112 is a math heavy course and his tests are all or nothing multiple choice. I would definitely recommend taking professor Coote!
Overall hes very smart, he should probably be in a different profession because teaching is not for him. He goes way to fast and doesnt let his student comprehend before moving on. Extremely hard tests, and recitation is pretty useless.
Warhausen does a really great job of explaining the material during lecture. All hmwk is extra credit. Exams are only 20 questions but out of 100 points each. Tends to curve most exams. Very approachable during office hours. Attendance is not mandatory but would highly recommend. Couldn't imagine passing without attending lectures.
Dr. Warhausen is a very nice, caring guy that definitely knows what he's doing. However, during lectures, he often just read from the slides. He's very open to questions and always want to help. His exams are VERY tough. I studied my butt off for them and still hardly received the grades I had hoped to. Gives lots of extra credit from Sapling
Gives VERY hard tests. Hard class. Good professor
I would only take Warhausen if you are very comfortable with chemistry. He goes through slides very quickly and his tests are difficult, always do the homework on sapling for extra credit!
Dr. Warhausen moves very quickly in his lectures, but still explains thing well and is always willing to help with questions. All his exams are 20 questions multiple choice worth 100 points. The sapling quizzes are graded, but the sapling homework is extra credit. If you pay attention and do all the sapling the class is not bad. Do the extra credit
Dr. Warhausen truly cares about his students and is great at explaining tough concepts. That being said, he goes through lecture slides really fast, which can make it difficult to retain the lecture information. Otherwise, he is a great professor.
Class is out of 700 points. 5 100 point exams which are 20 multiple choice questions. ACS Final is 200 points. 100 points of Sampling quizzes. Drops the lowest exam. 50 points of extra credit for doing sampling HW. He goes fast through lectures but is open to questions and assessable during office hours. Had a 96% in class until ACS Final.
His class periods were lectures and it was fast-paced but he focused on concepts that students struggled with and breezed through ones that most understood. Recitations and office hours were great times to ask questions and he is very helpful during these times. There was a lot of sapling homework but a lot of material was covered and it was E.C.
This class was considerably more difficult than 111. It took working on practice problems outside of class and reading before the lecture to grasp material well. Delivered material well but this class is hard if you attend the lecture and do sapling homework only. An outside study group is recommended.
I loved this professor as a person but as a professor he wasn't that great. During class he technically gives you a moment to ask questions but this doesn't happen super often. He also lectures from the moment the clock starts to the moment it ends. PLEASE DO THE HOMEWORK!!!! I suck at chem so this was a stressful class for me.
Adam Warhausen is a very nice guy. He seems to really care for his students and has even let me retake a quiz. This just wasnt enough for me to pass this class. Online/F2F course, where quizzes were weekly and I would spend hours studying and continuously fail them. No tests this semester, and I suggest doing sapling homework ahead.
I took his lab, it was easy although I had another professor for lecture. I dont recommend this, taking the same 2 professors will make it easier. That being said lots of my classmates dropped out of his class because the online chem was quite hard. I had a good experience except my lectures and lab didnt line up
The class is very fast-paced. Oftentimes we were anywhere from 1-3 chapters ahead of what we are being quizzed on (13 weekly quizzes instead of tests). The quizzes are incredibly difficult, the class average on every quiz, was about 60%. There are 50 extra points offered. The overall class grade was curved by about 7%. You'll learn a lot for sure
He seems like a great guy, but not a great professor. His quiz questions are written weird, and most don't correspond with what he went over in class. He gives you 25 minutes for 5-6 questions (most aren't multiple choice). He gives extra credit for sapling HW, but sapling quizzes are taken for a grade. I don't recommend if you have test anxiety.
Dr. Warhausen cares about his students but is not very good at lecturing or writing quizzes. He often reads directly from slideshows during lectures, which makes it difficult to stay engaged. On quizzes, there would often be concepts that he expected us to remember from previous classes without reviewing them. Would interrupt me while I talked.
He is not the best professor, in fact he might be the worst. I would study for every weekly quiz, and no matter what, I never got a good score. When I emailed him about it, he wouldn't explain how to do certain problems, and can come off as rude and arrogant (a know it all). I do not recommend taking this class, I am a 4.0 GPA student, or I was.
This is the only class that I have done this bad in (my worst was a B+). Considering that I studied for every quiz/final and got terrible grades on everything shows how it will go. Even with the extra credit, it did not help my grade that much. I am sad that this is going to ruin my GPA because it's a 4 credit class and he just read the slides.
I took Dr. Warhausen online, and this class was easily the most difficult class Ive taken. As a person Dr. Warhausen is very nice, but unless youre brilliant in chemistry, I would not recommend. The class was out of 500 points, 400 points of closed note/book exams, 100 of quizzes, and 40 extra credit points.
I would not take his classes ever again. He was not helpful when I reached out to him. He sent out pre-recorded non interactive lectures that were very in depth. It was hard to apply what was needed with how it was being taught.
I took chem 111 with Warhausen twice, first time I failed, second time I dropped the course, third time I took it with Froelicher and passed with an achievable A. His exams were way too challenging and not a fair test of knowledge. He treats the course like an upper level class when its really just a requirement for most majors.
Adam only thinks that people who are taking this class are chemistry masters that are only going to become a chemistry professors. Doesn't teach very well, just expects you to already know everything about chemistry before coming into his class. Would not recommend to anyone unless you are already a chemist.
A lot of the reviews here are overwhelmingly negative, but my experience was very good with him. I do love chemistry and I think enjoying class lead to me being successful. However, if you apply yourself and do work outside of his Extra Credit homework (the only homework you will get) I am confident you will succeed.
Adam understands chemistry very well but what he fails to understand is that the people in his class do not understand chemistry to the same degree. Without my prior knowledge and my tutor I would not have been able to pass this class. I would advise to take with a different teacher unless you are able to teach yourself.
Warhausen is overall a very nice person but not a good professor. I often came out of his lecture more confused than I was by just reading the book. He thinks everybody who takes his class are already masters at chem. He knows a lot but expects that everyone in his class is to the same level of knowledge as he is. Class is extremely test heavy.
Adam was the worst professor I've ever taken at SVSU. He expects you to be a chemistry master and if you are not well basically he said too bad so sad. I asked him for help many times and he yelled at me when I wasn't understanding the information. I would recommend NOT taking this professor if you can avoid it.
I read lots of poor reviews on Dr. Warhausen prior to taking this class which made me super nervous. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that he is actually an excellent professor. He offers plenty of extra credit opportunities, and lectures correlate perfectly to exams. Office hours were very helpful.
I did not like him at first but by the end, he became one of my favorite professors. He really wants you to do well, he gives lots of assignments to give you more points in the grade book. He is super helpful and always gives at least a 5 point curve on exams. The only thing I didn't like is the final is a state exam, not his own.
Worst professor i've had at SV. The HW/tests have little correlation, and he does the bare minimum in regard to his duty as a professor. When a class averages below 60% on exams in Gen Chem, it is clearly a reflection of the quality of the professor. If it's not too late, find a different one. Tip: bring him a helium balloon for EC, he loves them.
I'm not sure why people hate him so much. His class is not easy, but he ALWAYS stops and asks for questions and genuinely cares how you're doing in the class. He moves fast so definitely come to lecture but his exams are all 20 Qs and MC and he offers so much extra credit for homework that helps offset exam scores.(only grades for completion)
Dr. Warhausen is passionate about chemistry and it is easy to tell. The exams may be on the tougher side but I believe that is because chemistry is an overall subject that people struggle in. He is generous when grading exams and understands that his undergraduate students are not chemists. An overall great semester with him.
Sitting in this class is like watching a train crash into a car except you are the car and the train is Warhausen with his bs homework assignments and reviews that look nothing like the tests. I have to say, he is good to look at but this class is not the way you want to be railed. 100% math exams. oh and he loves helium balloons
One of the very best I have learned under at this university. Chemistry as a subject moves quick and is difficult for many. Recitation period to answer students' questions is offered every day. Homework directly correlated with exams and he was fantastic in breaking things down further when it was needed. 10/10 for me.
Dr. Warhausen wants his students to do good, but his lectures are so fast. He is welcome to questions and explanations but reads directly off of the slides. Quizzes on canvas do not correlate with the exams or what he's teaching in class. GO TO RECITATION! I would not have passed if I did not go. HW = extra credit, DO IT! Exams are multiple choice
Dr.Warhausen is an extremely good professor. He moves fast in lecture but is easily accessible during recitation and office hours. If you put in the work doing homework and asking questions outside of class you will do well. He truly wants to help and is extremely approachable.
Although chemistry isn't my forte, he made the class a much better experience. I appreciate how he is a present professor and actually listens to feedback given from his students. This particular professor offers many opportunities to keep your grade intact, it's not just straight exams. Also, go to recitation! You can go to as many as you want.
Great professor, offers homework as extra credit (DO THE HOMEWORK)
Professor Warhausen is a very compassionate person and wants everyone to succeed while they study. He offered around 50 points of extra credit this semester as well as curving every exam and some quizzes. Do all the homework problems and go to recitation and you will be just fine in the class.
he curves all exams. chem is hard but dont make it harder than it needs to be. if you study and pay attention in lecture, you will do good. he teaches well and has recitation.
Very concept heavy class and asks you to memorize a lot of equations. Other than that he's an overall nice guy and lectures good. I would go to recitation every time and make sure you do the homework (hw=extra credit).
Dr. Warhausen is a really good guy who actually cares but his tests are so hard. Often there are things on the test that I didn't recognize at all. He does give a lot of extra credit and drop your worst test.
He is a super nice guy and I'm taking him for 112 next semester. This class is hard no matter who you take it with. He drops your worst exam and dropped 2 quizzes. He offers 36 points of extra credit which I recommend doing. Going to recitation is extremely helpful as he will ask how you feel about lecture material and help with anything you need.
Great professor! Attend lectures, take notes, and go to recitation. He is willing to help if you ask. There are weekly quizzes and then 5 exams. There are plenty of extra credit opportunities. It is a hard class but doable.
I also took Warhausen for CHEM111 and received an A. For both courses, Dr. Warhausen was amazing because he would be willing to work with you during his office hours and recitation. He does want you to succeed and you will if you put in the effort. To do this, I suggest taking advantage of him as a resource and to study as much as possible.
Helpful if you reached out, but the homework problems and review questions poorly reflected exams. Often times, there were questions on the exam that he never had us practice. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT, it helps a lot. Took 5 exams and he drops the lowest grade.100 points, 20 questions, multiple choice. Provided periodic table and some formulas.
I took Warhausen for both 111 and 112 and loved him. If you reach out to him and he sees you are trying he will do his best to help you. The tests are always 20 multiple-choice questions and he always curves. The drop exam really helps and do the extra credit!!! He understands not everyone likes chem and he posts all of his lectures. Take him.
Dr. Warhausen is a down-to-earth professor who genuinely cares for his students. He tries to keep you roped into his lecture by making jokes and references. However, his exams always have 20 questions, making it hard to get a high score. The averages on exams were always 60 or below, and that's with the usual 10-point curve.
The exams were difficult as they were only 20 questions out of 100 points. He drops the lowest exams out of five. The textbook is free and he gives extra credit for each chapter. He talks quite fast during lectures but is more than willing to help you if you attend recitation or office hours. Overall, good professor!
Warhausen was a great professor! he gave 5 exams and dropped one. gave quizzes each week but dropped your lowest. the textbook was free so you don't need to buy it. his lectures were very fast paced so be prepared to review on your own time. he is really helpful and encouraging. willing to negotiate with students too. overall great professor.
Professor Warhausen is great - he really cares and offers lots of extra credit. The class is challenging, but doable if you attend lectures, do the homework, and utilize resources like the free textbook and unstuckstudy for study prep. Recitation is also super helpful.
pretty straight forward, disregard most of what the lecture says. his exams are identical to the practice problems or recommended problems he gives you.
I liked Warhausen, but I struggled a lot in this class. I think that is partially from the way he teaches, it's like he knows the information so well, he doesn't explain it enough. Again, I liked him, this class was just difficult for me.
I had him only for the lab, but it was a breeze. Dr. Warhausen was super helpful when I needed clarification on labs, and he gave a short pre-lab lecture right before each lab, which was super helpful. Also plays music during labs, which was enjoyable. Awesome professor!
Grade is based solely on 4 out of the 5 exams (he drops the lowest). Super nice guy, and cares about your learning. GO TO RECITATION! That extra 50 mins of time in a smaller group is so helpful when asking questions and working through questions. I didn't read the book, but do the practice problems he recommends before the exams, they help a lot.
