Was an alright class. He wasn't very clear. Take calc beforehand. I would've taken this from another professor if I had the choice.
Professor Coppin was an act, but it was a very difficult class. He tends to skip ahead and use shortcuts after break, and he doesn't seem overly prepared. He's an average teacher to take this class with. You could do much worse.
I survived this class only because he accepted partially correct math embedded in any problem. This class requires TONS of calc, do a brush up before hand. He is easy to talk to and available during his "office hours" as stated in the schedule
Terrific professor. Loves answering (actually answering) questions. Prepares you well for the exams. He tells you what you need to know.
Difficult class, so pay attention and don't skip. But if you ever have any kind of personal/family crisis, he will not accomodate you no matter how life threatening the situation may be. VERY COLD.
Was very into making you understand what you were doing. Great teacher.
Works with you throughout course.
Great Econ prof and very entertaining. Loved listening to his accent. Looks (and sounds) just like the guy from the Red Stripe beer ads.
Don't give up in the first class. He tries to scare evryone off. He is not as bad as he sound. Make sure you act interesting on his classes.Don't be afraid of him
Good guy. Very hyper, but fun. Will answer ANY question and will do anything to help you understand the material. Good class overall. Not a big workload and he understood a lot of reasons/excuses.
I was very excited about taking this class, but I find that presentation of material is somewhat disorganized. I have a hard time following lecture. (Which is not a problem I typically have in any class.)
Two words, Skip him. He is so confused and disorganized.
Exams are tough but his lectures are interesting and he is willing to help whenever you need it
An interesting professor.Lectures are a lil confusing, u dont know what to write and what to just listen to..A lil disorganized with his pictures...But over all a good guy..
I had 4.0's in econ classes before this one.got a 2.0 in this class.coppin has too many things to do other than teaching, and so he is never prepared for anything.lecture is all ramble--no joke.2 tests based on alot of material, and you dont know what you should know for them.10 pg term paper asssignment unclear.is head of ECN @ OU, go figure...? :/
He himself is so confused and disorganized, you'll learn nothing in his classs yet you end up with a high score. Avoid, avoid, avoid if you want to learn, take him to improve your GPA
Dude, that last comment was so true. His examples are identical to his exam questions, just memorize the answers and you’ll ace the course. Take at own risk, but don’t expect to learn a thing. Like that last comment, a good place to improve your GPA.
yes his tests are pretty much what he lectures, and yes if you memorize the graphs he does in lecture you will pass, but only if you understand what he is trying to get across. i had a hard time staying focused on what he wanted us to know. and that is not a problem usually.
Subject is quite interesting to me. The instructor conducted a good class, and has good stories. [Some students talked way too much, though.] Tests were fair--no surprises.
This professor was great after you got to know him. He will not give you the answer and expects you to work for your grade but I learned a lot. He does expect you to do your work. Inmature students who want to goof off and avoid learning (avoid, avoid, avoid)
Horrible, horrible teacher.......if you took him, drop him drop drop.....i will never recommend him to anyone....lectures are terrible, nobody could understand what was going on in class, even if you read a book 100 times you will still be confused, because his lectures are unclear. half of the class droped him the second week.
His exams are okay. He gives you everything you need to know from the lectures and homeworks. Although I have to warn you he is very disorganized and messy. You will learn if you make an effort. Also I recommend getting on his good side because it seems to me that he is partial to some students.
If you are lazy and dump dont take him. The lectures are worthless and the book sucks. He is all over the place very disorginized. Nice guy. Give you the test practicly.
Very dedicated prof. Wants students to learn the subject. Get on his good side and he'll love you.
I swear, she must have gotten his degree out of a vending machine.
He is very easy to talk to and really tries to help you understand the material. If you are having problems in the class make sure you talk to him because he'll explain anything you are having problems with.
Great professor
Challenges you to think about things you ordinarily would take for granted. Lots of knowledge about things international.
This class was sooooo ridiculously hard. I showed up for every class and for some reason it just seemed to get worse and worse. The tests are super hard and he doesn't curve that much and his lectures seem scattered. Wouldn't take him unless you have to
Have taken two classes with this instructor so far, and will take him again in the future. A very good instructor who challenges you to think. Lots of knowledge! He does require you to work on your own outside of class.
I had this professor for an international econ class several years ago. He is very knowledgeable, and holds your interest for hours. I enjoyed coming to class every night. Best class I had at OU.
Enjoyed this class; opened my understanding to many insights about the rest of the world.
I really want to like Professor Coppin but it seems every class I take with him, he purposely wants students to recieve poor grades. Don't get me wrong, he is very smart but smart people shouldn't always become teachers. He is way to "all over the place" for my liking and doesn't really care whether the students are on the same page with him or not
A very knowledgeable professor who conducted an exciting class. Required three exams and a short paper. Class participation is a part of your grade.
Good class, good instructor. This is one class where you are pushed to "think." Class participation is also very important. The professor would explain in 15 minutes what it would take my political science instructor one class period to explain.
I really like professor coppin. He makes lectures interesting and out of four econ professors at ou hes only the second that could actually make me want to come to class. He challenges people to think which is why his class may seem so challenging to some.
Awesome guy, definately knows what hes talking about, always there to help students
You will NEED to get the notes he posts on Moodle, and you NEED to read the book to grasp the concepts he's trying to get across. Working in groups can be incredibly helpful as well. For a while I was damning his Caribbean soul, but he's willing to work with you if personal problems interrupt your studies.
VERY NICE GUY, VERY INTO HIS STUFF. HE HELPS PEOPLE PASS HIS COURSE, AND IS VERY FUN IN CLASS AS WELL
He's very likeable, very nice, and if you aren't that great at Econ--he's very hard. Not incredibly organized, but classes are entertaining enough. Curves his tests, so if you at least show up to the classes and make an effort with the homework, you should still be able to pass the course.
Ok, this class was super hard for me. I'm not good at math and there were a lot of formulas. However, I studied super hard and although I thought I would fail I got a 3.4. Not bad. If he sees that you are truly working hard he will at least give you a little consideration. He is awesome, too and so amazingly intelligent. You will learn a lot!
I bearly got a 2.5 on Econ 200, but with this prof I did much better. I took it in the summer so it was condensed, I studied and got a 3.4. He is pretty funny, does alot of examples. DO NOT TEXT in his class though. he tells you what is going to be on the tests, take good notes and do the forums for Extra credit
Professor is very interested in showing how economics applies in everyday life. I have a new appreciation for the way we make decisions based on having had this class.
This is my first semester at Oakland University and he has made it an absolute horrible experience for me. I didn't understand some of the material and I asked him for help on 4 different occasions. Each time he either insulted me or repeated himself. He never returned my e-mails and he won't answer my questions in class. I feel personally harassed
awful awful class, he is all over the place and makes no sense he talks in cricles and never actually explains what he is talking about. When you ask questions he laughs at you and makes you feel stupid. He might understand what things mean but just beacsue he does doesnt mean the students do and he doesnt seem to get that.
He stands at the front of the room, waves his arms in the air, draws incomprehensible graphs, and then gives you outrageously hard exams. Just don't take his class.
He seems to use his own brand of abbreviations and contradicts what he says often, as well as not leaving notes up for more than 5 seconds before covering them, even crucial ones. He also takes a "guesstimate" approach to what could be the best solution on a subject that focuses on collected data and equations. I definitely suggest another prof.
do not take this class! he repeats himself like 5 times, but it's always in circles. I found out he used to be the economics dean, which explained why this class was so hard. The exams are extremely hard and I put in about 10 hours per week for this class, and I'm barely pulling through with a 2.5.
This was the most discouraging class Ive ever had. His exams are really hard. I got a 3.6 in the class but that was only after the curve. He never gives study guides for exams. Posts extremely hard homework assignments for little points. I wrote a 500 word essay and it was only worth one point. I would stay away from this teacher if you can.
This class is extremely difficult. This professor is the worst I have ever have and possibly the worst Oakland has to offer. He is intelligent, but expects his students to be as knowledgable as him about the subject. The exams are near impossible, and the only purpose the books serves is to help you comprehend what he says in class. Do not take!
He was such a nice guy and tried to be interesting and fun however, it didn't work. I feel like we never had enough time adequately cover what we needed to in the time period and half the time I couldn't get all the concepts in class any way. That being said he must have curved a lot b/c I still ended up wit ha good grade.
Agreed with the last five comments!! Pulled thru with a 2.5 after the curve, I was nervous til it got posted.
Ha ha ha ha ha! If you thought ECN 201 was hard, all you complainers will NEVER make it through ECN 303! Ha ha ha ha ha!
Most people I talked to in class did not like him. You need to get on his good side. Sit in the front and stay after class for a few minutes and talk to him. Do this a couple of times and you will pass. Grades on a curve.
He's a tough grader and has very high expectations. His class will definitely ruin your GPA. He gets upset if you do even the smallest little thing wrong. He should be reported to the dean.
He makes the simplest concepts really confusing. Coppin gets furious when you miss class. I'd rather die than take another class with him.
When he tries to explain things, he makes them even more confusing. I studied for hours and his tests were extremely hard.
I'm surprised by the comments here. Professor Coppin will work you hard, no doubt about that. But you will learn a lot, and not only about Economics. Students who want easy instructors without much effort should look elsewhere. If you actually want to learn about the subject, then he will be good for you.
I will probably receive a lower grade in this course than my current GPA, but that is not because of anyone's fault. This course was different from the other courses I had as a freshman and sophomore. He tried to get us to think critically, and outside of the box. I haven't had to do that before; that's why I worked harder than in other classes.
I'm an Economics major and find all aspects of the subject interesting. This class was one of the best I've taken in terms of the learning. I took it online in Summer, and it required a lot of time investment, but that's what happens in summer. The professor did an excellent job.
He is an amazing professor. He will work you hard but it is well worth it. He is very knowledgeable and if you pay attention you will learn more than you will realize. The class is hard but it is well worth it.
I didn't expect to learn as much as I did, but that's because the professor forces you to be engaged in the class, by using many assignments (maybe too many, but after a certain number, you get extra credit for any others done). He's a story-teller, so pay close attention in order to get all of the nuances. You'll work harder than you expected to.
The class was interesting to me because it discussed the issues related to the financial crisis of a couple of years ago. There are a lot of theories that you have to learn in order to have a better sense of what is going on. The professor helps with lots of country examples. He has an amazing array of k'ledge about the global economy. I recommend!
I wished he would talk louder
All over the place, doesn't focus and make sure it's clear. Too much on calculus rather than the economic part - so it's just like a math class. I'd probably like econ better, if it was a different professor.
He gives out a lot of busy work which will take away time from your other classes. He expects you to know the math so he tends to skip steps when he is explaining the math. He does keep the class engaged and is very interesting. If you are good at math, then this is your class, if not than you should look for someone else
Prof. Coppin seems like he knows a lot about Economics, and that's how he speaks. He expects the students to already know how to do the work before beginning the class. He talks down to the students, and will make you feel inferior if you don't have the right answer. If you can, take this class with another prof!
Great professor, really knows what he's talking about. helps you out a lot to get prepared to exams. Hard class, need to study to a lot for exams. gave us a hint for 1 question on the final.
He doesn't explain anything in detail. If you ask/answer questions in his class and he doesn't like what you said, he makes you feel stupid. Homework is due on Moodle before every class and the amount of time it takes you to do most of the assignments (500 word essays) is not worth the 1 point given. You will never know your actual grade. AVOID.
Where do I begin to givr this genius the praise he deserves? First, he is extremelly intelligent and shockingly passionated about his class and his students. Tough class. To get a great grade: Study the notes he gives you, do ALL of the homework AND the extra Credit.Study in groups. If you do all of the above, you will be fine. Gob Bless this man.
The class was a lot of work, but there is a lot of learning! I took this class a year ago, and can still recall the material because of the way he taught it. He forces you to think by having you attempt the work prior to coming to class. I recommend him if you really want to learn about economics. If you want an easy class, take someone else.
A lot of work for this class, and totally not worth it. Passed it, but didn't enjoying learning it.
AVOID! He is very passionate about economics, but he expects you to basically teach it to yourself. This class comes with a heavy amount of work and listening to nothing dealing with class half the time.
one of the worst profs i have ever taken. He was of no help what so ever. The tests had nothing to do with the review guides that he would pass out. You will never know what your grade is in the class until the end. AVOID
Excellent professor! Thoughts can be a bit sporadic at times, but that and his sense of humor keeps the class alive and interesting. He shows the quickest and most practical ways to find the answers to some of the most difficult economics questions, including a short-cut or two!
There's no end to his madness!
He tends to go off on tangents frequently. I never really know what we are doing in class, since there is no clear agenda. The professor is very intelligent about economics, but I am not. It is hard to learn in his class. The textbook is harder to understand than he is. I would suggest that you find another professor if possible.
Worst professor ever.
Terrible professor. I have had bad professors before, and I just fought through it and did my job as a student. This is my first time ever feeling so terrible about a teacher, and my first rating on here. So that alone means alot. Avoid him at all cost, don't even walk pass him in the hallway.
horrible prof, not helpful what so ever he will also make you feel like an idiot if you do not agree with something he says or if you get something wrong. AVOID
This guy needs to chill out with how many assignments he gives out. They all take an unreasonable amount of time and you can never catch a break. Oh and by the way, they are only 1 point.
Great professor. He's very dedicated to the class, spends countless hours outside it creating lectures to post online and formulating ways to ask exam questions so we can better understand them. If you look at the book, the stuff seems impossible but the way he teaches it is much easier. Attendance isn't mandatory, but do go. You'll learn a lot.
Coppin is best professor I've had so far at OU. This is a tough class and you do have to put the time in outside of class to do well. His tests are tough, but he offers a lot of extra credit, so even if your exam grades are not great, you will be fine. He is passionate about the subject and gives you everything you need to succeed in this class.
He is one of my favorite professors! He teaches a huge amount and really knows his stuff. His homework is only 1 point but each point is 1% of your final grade. He offers upwards of 15 points of extra credit.Attendance is not mandatory but if you don't attend class you wont do well on the tests. Only take this class is you actually want to learn!
This was his first year teaching ECN 201 in about 15 years, so he really didn't know what he was doing. He gives a lot of extra credit, so its not really that bad of a class. He just really doesn't teach you since he is used to upper level econ courses.
Honestly the worst professor EVER. I only took him because his class was the only one available to fit my schedule. There are three exams that are absolutely horrible. He gave us a sh*t load of extra credit because we were all failing the class. The best part is.. he thinks its the student's fault and not his own LMAO.
He is a good professor if you take his class serous. CHECK MOODLE DAILEY! Extra credit is weekly. Also study with all his video lectures, going along with your homework assignment. Attend class every time, he will tell you like 6 questions will be on the test and choose 4 from those 6, sometimes the same exact questions. Go to class do extra credit
Super great guy and very easy going professor. Being an accounting Major I thought this class was going to suck and be super hard. However I have learned nothing but helpful information and thought this was the best class I have ever taken at OU. Great professor, gives study guides and a ton of extra credit.
He rambles a lot. He gives hand outs but it's really hard to follow along in class
Rambles a lot during class and it is hard to follow at times, but he's an awesome person and gives tons of extra credit opportunities. He tells you exactly which questions to expect on the test, numbers wont even change sometimes. There is homework, but he goes over it all in class and half the time tells you the answers beforehand.
Wow. This is a very tough class. In class lectures are everywhere. You better study your butt off if you would like to pass this class. No feedback given whatsoever and exams are near impossible to pass if you don't study like crazy.
Very tough class already. Copping preaches that he values thinkers and spends much of class talking about various topics where he asks you to think and participate. However none of it is on tests and so he doesn't have much time to actually prepare you for the tests. You'll teach yourself with his vids and do lots of extra credit for that 2.0
I'm only halfway through this class and it is one of the toughest classes I have ever taken. Professor is all over the place, I am never clear on what exactly he is trying to teach us. The only benefit of this professor is that he offers a lot of extra credit and even that is difficult sometimes. Also, beware of his moodle page, SO MUCH INFO!!!
Super hard to follow in class because he jumps all around. Homework is given every class but if you do it you get credit. Tests are pretty easy, all you have to do is watch video lectures on moodle. He tells you whats on the test and grades fairly. Overall pretty easy class. Idk why everyone on here is complaining. I'm an average student.
He is a super difficult professor. If he thinks you're smart then you're on his good side, but if he doesn't he will basically give you hell until you drop his course. If you are good at calc and do well on exams then you will be good. His tests are hard but he tells you the type of questions to study, you just have to attend every class.
First off, I dont even know how this teacher is still at Oakland University. Prof. Addington makes you work for your grade and if you have a question, he makes you feel stupid in front of the entire class. Do not skip class, you will not pass. He tells you what is going to be on exam, and then its completely different. I still passed but avoid him!
I think there are pluses and minuses to Prof. Coppin. His lectures were very thorough, and he is very passionate about economics. The homework was fairly easy on MyEconLab. He is a very understanding professor. He met with me during office hours and helped find where I struggled on his tests. I do recommend because he is a good professor.
He jumps all over the place in lectures, and makes almost no sense. His notes don't make sense either. If you are going to learn anything you'll have to teach yourself using the book and internet. He seems to insult people's intelligence every class too, and he even told one lady "If you need a tutor then you should just drop the class."
Posts so many things on Moodle. Almost every day before class there's a forum you must post to - but he never sends an alert or email. Says examples are "low hanging fruit," and other phrases so that you always feel stupid. A strange guy for sure, gets off topic every class session so often that you never know what class was even about.
I was doing poor in his class until I noticed he will tell u in lecture EXACTLY what will be on the exams so PAY ATTENTION! attendance isnt mandatory but important. He is a difficult grader but if you show up to class random days he will pass around a sign in sheet & you will get extra cred for going to class! Difficult class but SO worth it.
I took the 2nd exam and forgot how to do half of one problem, and he told me to drop the class because he would fail me. I wasn't even doing bad in his class. Didn't drop. His lectures are hard to follow, he jumps between topics very often. Unless you want to teach yourself to decipher chicken scratch notes from him do not take.
This guy sucks. Do not take him. He blabs about bs in class that does not even relate to the course. Sometimes you forget that youre in an Economics class because of how off topic he gets. Scatter brained and awful at showing you how to work out problems. Chegg will be your bestfriend.
2 exams, moodle assignments online, and a few extra credit opportunities. Lectures can be long and boring but if you pay attention and take notes you should be fine.
CON:He assumes that all students are knowledgeable about the topic so he doesn't fully explain anything. So if you're not "naturally smart" about ecn, you'll have a VERY hard time. He admits to being bias towards certain students. PRO:He gives you the exact exam problems, so pay attention in class. Does give extra credit. He's funny sometimes.
Professor Coppin is a really cool guy and very knowledgable of economics; however, for someone who really doesn't understand economics or has never seen it before, he is a little intense. If you like economics, he will be a great fit for you. You don't really feel comfortable to ask questions in class. Go to class, he gives you test questions.
Addington is a straight-up wacko. Several times his lecture notes differed from the notes he passed out. He jumps around and starts going off on random tangents while you're trying to understand what he's talking about. There are better professors available for this class. Unless you're naturally a wiz kid, avoid Addington like the plague.
Avoid Addington like the plague, his teaching style is abysmal. He babbles about nonsense, stories unrelated to material, homework unspecified. Two exams worth a majority of your grade, do poorly on one and you're done. Pushes students who are struggling to drop the class and won't stay after at all to help. Worth professor I've ever had, ever.
Terrible teacher! His lectures were all over the place and had no structure. He would go on tangents about things very unrelated to the topic. He also gave so much busy work that I didn't learn anything from. Also insults your intelligence on a daily basis saying things like "this problem is for the smart people." Overall, find another professor...
Addington is the worst professor in the school! Stay as far away from his classroom as possible.
Although he is a full time professor, there are no office hours and if you ask him to stay after class, he may stay five minutes at the most and then storm out of there saying, Watch my lecture videos. Stay far away!
Avoid Coppin at all cost! Enough said.
Every second of his class was miserable. It was only an hour and fifteen minutes but it felt like three hours. He lies about extra credit and doesn't post grades in moodle. If you're not naturaly geared toward economics, he acts like you're stupid. Avoid this professor!
In all honesty, if Coppin is the only professor available it is totally worth it to just wait and take it in a different semester. Avoid this guy at all cost!!!!
There seriously aren't enough characters in this text for me to say all I want to but DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH THIS PROFESSOR. He is beyond disorganized, doesn't post grades on moodle, doesn't provide lectures that correlate with the homework, and is honestly sort of offensive. I got an A in this class because I worked hard, but NOT worth it.
Coppin is the worst professor ever. His class is composed of three tests and a huge amount of homework. After the first exam, he will encourage a third of his students to drop. The class following the first exam will feel like a funeral proceeding and a lot of people will be crying and he enjoys it.
Dr. Coppins class was a true gem of an experience. Clearly, he is VERY knowledgeable and passionate about the topics he teaches and it shows in the classroom. I understand some of the negative comments that proceed mine, yet allow me to explain why they are wrong. If you show effort, passion, and drive, you will be rewarded BEYOND a good grade
His lectures can be unorganized and hard to follow sometimes, but if you are good at math you can usually look at his work and figure it out on your own after the fact. He will answer questions as well - he's quite friendly. His passion for economics is clearly shown and he is funny at times. The exams are generally similar to the homework.
This professor uses real world application of the lectures. While some of his feedback be very critical, he wants his students to ask questions and be involved in the lecture. As long as you try and do the homework you will do good in this class. He does not warn you when assignments are due tho, so you gotta pay attention to moodle.
Do not buy/rent the book. He is a really good and knowledgeable professor! Everything we learn about has a real world application, he just wants us to become better critical thinkers so we usually have in class discussions. Homework is weekly in Moodle but the assignments are easy and he gives practice exams which are similar to the actual exam.
Professor Coppin is a really nice guy, he tries to use real world examples to tie in the material. If you show up and participate in his lectures, you will do well. Professor Coppin wants to see that you are using your brain and thinking, rather than simply getting the correct answers. Dont be afraid to ask him questions, he is extremely helpful.
He wasn't a very understanding professor. I had some issues beginning of the semester and received no help from him. I emailed and emailed him and his replies were very short. He ended up telling me to drop his course because he said I wouldn't make it in his class. Now if he helped like my other professors I would of been fine.
Professor Coppin is a nice guy but his teaching style can be confusing. He offers practice exams so you know what to expect on the exams. He holds review sessions for those who have questions and he actually cares about his students learning. This is not an easy class but Coppin offers a lot of support.
Coppin is not really a good teacher if you don't understand economics like me. But he was really generous with final grades
Professor Coppin is definitely an interesting guy but his teaching and lecture style is all over the place. He is very funny, but he jumps all over the place during lectures and it is very hard to keep up. His saving grace is he gives a ton of extra credit, and all homework is full credit just for submitting. Also very generous with final grades.
If you can avoid this class please do so. If youre like me and have to take it to graduate on time best advise I can give you is talk to him and show him your work and notes to show your trying (kiss butt basically). I believe no one in class understood the material. His lectures dont make sense. He indirectly called me dumb and he called me slow.
He is sometimes hard to follow but he will give you every chance to get a C if you show up and put in the effort. Take his class you will not regret it.
Lectures all over the place!! Funny guy but unorthodox teaching methods and lectures. I thought knew what I was doing until I saw the test and was baffled. Fun class but would not recommend if you want a standard class.
They don't make professors as good as this anymore. He's my favorite professor at Oakland.
Prof. Coppin is most polorizing professor in the school. I personally loved his lectures, talking with him after classes, and being prepared for the exams. Lectures get dry sometimes but he tries to joke around to make his students pay attention. Uses a lot of his old recorded YouTube unlisted videos as reference. Try and connect with him.
I agree with the other comment that he is a polarizing professor. Some hate and some don't. The key to his class is to understand that he is purposely making the math more difficult than needed because it is a critical thinking class. Luckily he gives plenty of online material to study and grading isn't to harsh.
Lectures went off on tangents and unclear with grading. Makes rude/ offensive comments. Grade is either HW or test based. Worst prof I've ever experienced.
Prof Coppin is an interesting guy, his lectures are all over the place sometimes but he has so many videos on moodle of previous lectures that are honestly more valuable than going to class in my opinion. Didn't go to a majority of the classes but you have to make sure to watch all of his moodle videos.
Good professor people make it out to be much harder than it actually is. Go to class and do homework. Lots of extra credit opportunities.
Addington is a complicated professor. He is very old school with his teaching style and refuses to change his ways (even after being reported for a few things). His lectures are all over the place, just like his moodle page and grading style. However, if you go to class and show that you are trying to pass, he will make sure you get a C.
Coppin is one of the more enjoyable people that I've been taught by. Yes, his class is hard, kinda disorganized and gets off topic but you can definitely get a good grade. I am not bad but not great at Econ and I was just fine. Test is similar to the example. He's generous with grades if you show you are trying and participate in class (DO THIS!!)
Hard to grade prof. Lectures can be fun if the class talks and responds to him. Material is relatively simple, use calc to find max points. Do the homework and it will be mostly similar to exams. Grading is weird, Final exam and 2 midterms or Final 1 midterm and homework Do the homework and just dont show up to one exam (the second one) Fun guy too
Coppin can be an acquired taste, but with the right approach, you can get a solid grade. His lectures are unstructured, but the Moodle videos are super helpful. Use Unstuckstudy along with the practice materials to nail the exams.
DO NOT TAKE THIS MAN PLEEEEASE. DO NOT DO THAT TO YOURSELF. Literally the worst lecturer EVER. SO BORING and DOES NOT EXPLAIN ANYTHING. Super unorganized and does not even write out problems. I am suffering. Would rate him a 0 if I could.
HODGE FTW! After repeatedly asking for guidance, Coppin became agitated creating a hostile learning environment without offering any real support. He is ineffective, unprofessional & combative as the entire class witnessed first-hand. I led a group down to the Dean after he failed our midterms, we all got switched out mid semester after fighting.
Lectures are all over the place and will NOT answer his email at all. Moodle page is very unorganized and homework grades are not put out until the end of the semester. Moodle videos do not relate to current topics and are outdated. Also doesn't allow any technology during lectures.
DO NOT LISTEN TO ANY GOOD REVIEWS! DO NOT TAKE! If only I didn't have a limit, I could go on and on. This professor is terrible. He has no compassion, still teaches old school, boring lectures more focused on “critical thinking.” I reached out so many times for help, but he's bias towards specific students. He became more hostile after I asked too.
He's not for everyone but he does care about your success. His grading method is very lenient, and if you do every assignment (completion grade) you are guaranteed to pass. On exams, take the time to explain ALL of your thinking and you will get some sort of credit at least. Long lectures and offbeat humor, but I found his class to be enjoyable.
Professor Addington Coppin was one of my favourite professors thus far! His lectures are easy to follow even if your not a calc student. You need to participate and he will answer all the questions you have, you can even stay after. AMZING PROF
