We need slides not just questions

Imagine level 1 lecture, level 2 sample test, and a level 5 test

We need more content to be explained, not just solving problems

Spends a whole lecture trying to explain 1 question from the textbook. He doesnt even explain the concepts and theories properly. The midterm was not like the practice tests that were given. He expects us to do some next level finance when this is supposed to be beginners!

Why did DeGroote hire him? This guy is trash and doesn't know how to teach!! This was the most I've ever seen a prof screw his students on a midterm

I dont mind hard work, but when the professor prepares ya textbook questions and then puts questions that are 5x harder on the midterm... thats when its a problem. As well his lectures are just textbook questions which are very unhelpful, feeling very screwed over by him

He cant teach at all, midterms were 10x harder than sample midterms from previous years and practice tests. Something is wrong with his teaching methods because we arent given enough resources to succeed

Does one textbook question per lecture which is 50 minuets, gives 25 long questions in 2 hours, so how is that enough time? How is that fair? This guy is a scam and needs to rethink his whole course

Prof just does one question per lecture to prepare us for the midterm. Felt extremely unprepared for the test and he said that the test would be similar taste to practice questions and practice test which was absolutely false. Huge curveballs. Run if you see his name as your prof

His assessments are extremely unfair and tests you on material either covered in a rush or material that is totally unknown, not much can prepare you for the exam.

Easy sample test and then the holy bad test 1. When you solve the most difficult question of sample test. Ok, you can solve the easiest question of test 1.

This man teaches absolutely nothing in class, tells us to do textbook questions and then completely throws the hardest possible questions on the first midterm of the INTRODUCTION to Finance course. Crazy.

Brutally hard exams that are completely different from any prep given. Also, this is a prerequisite course for next semester, so if anyone fails because of these completely unfair midterms, we're screwed for next semester.

Doesn't prepare you for the midterms, he assign's questions that are much easier than the test questions.

This professor has absolutely no idea how to teach. Most of his lectures consists of doing ONE example question. 1 hour for 1 question. He gives no practice questions. If your able to answer the most challenging question in the textbook, congrats, you can answer the easiest question on the exam. You cant understand anything he says worst prof ever

Teaches everything on excel and never explains anything such as how formulas appear. When you ask for clarification he tells us to use excel which we cant use on the midterm or exams. Worst prof degroote has ever hired

Doesn't teach concepts, poorly demonstrates how to solve problems. The tests do not resemble what is taught and assigned as practice, and success in this class is impossible without outside resources. It has been a very discouraging experience, and frankly he has turned me off completely to studying finance.

If you think these reviews are an over exaggeration youre wrong this is honestly the worst and rudest professor I have ever had. Does not care for students and goes out of his way to confuse everyone. Did not clarify what was exactly on either midterms and teaches one problem an hour and expects the students to understand. Worst ever!

TOUGH GRADER! He does not teach you course content you have to do it yourself. His midterms are all unrealistically advanced questions. Oh, you wanted a good GPA? Sucks for you it's impossible in his class. Wears nice sweaters though.

TA's useless, Prof is even more useless. Each lecture he is late, does not care to help his students, is extremley rude and treats every lecture as a tutorial by doing only 1 question for the entire 50 minute lecture. Does not provide fair assesment criteria, does not provide helpful resources.

Makes me want to drop out. How can this be considered an introductory level course?? Midterms are way harder than practice tests and lectures are uselessly spent on doing single problems. Solid appreciation for his trademark white cardigan though.

The lectures are useless and the chapter questions are the only thing can help you.

Absolutely horrible experience of a class. He would spend the full 50 minutes of class doing ONE question with poor explanation and just expected students to follow what he was doing. Lecture questions and assigned practice did not reflect at all exam material. No way to study or properly prepare for his exams. Good luck.

Please do not believe the good ratings; they are all trolls. This prof does not how to teach. Final exam was BEYOND me. He added a twist onto every question for the exam. Everyone has low grades... just terrible prof!!!

I cannot believe how McMaster can hire someone who does not teach the course at all and expects you to learn the Finance on your own. The text book we use is completely garbage as it does not even explain 99% of the formulas needed to write the exams and midterms.

This has been my worst experience ever. Avoid this prof at all costs. This is an intro to finance yet he tests us like we've been doing it for years. I would be okay with the challenging exam and midterms if he actually taught us what we need to know to do well. Yet he only does one question when each one has 20 variations. So disappointed in Mac.

This prof makes the midterms extremely difficult which especially sucks because there are no assignments to help bring your grade up. I'm sure he is very intelligent, but he has absolutely no idea how to teach the material. I got nothing out of attending lectures. The final exam was awful.

I had him for 2FA3 and I thought there is no way he could be any worse. I was wrong. I devoted 110% of my energy for a 3 unit course and was only able to get an A-. I did every single question in the textbook, not just recommended problems. EVERY. SINGLE. QUESTION. He claims he directly takes his questions from for exams but I still struggled.

If you have text anxiety, do not take this course with him (he will give you 5 questions to practice from, none of which will help you on the test). The group projects are fun (he did a good job at that) but you will not get a rubric for it. He will decide on a rubric AFTER you submit it. Even with past excel and VBA experience, you will struggle.

The group assignments were fun, BUT you won't have a rubric available for these projects. He makes one up AFTER you submit your assignment. Spend LOTS of time with Excel and VBA or else you won't pass!

This course was just not organized very well. He teaches using excel when (Fall 2019) we were being tested doing the questions by hand. I found that the course material became easier when I skipped lectures and taught myself the material. He is clearly knowledgeable, he is just not good at explaining these concepts . I would avoid him if you can.

This class was a mess. He would teach the basics of an excel function and then test you on a complicated use of that function that I guess you were supposed to teach yourself. The second assignment required a deeper understanding of VBA and coding in general that didn't match the course description that no previous knowledge was necessary.

.... Make's things unnecessarily hard. I've been lucky enough to work in the VC and private equity industry early on and I promise you every single calculation you learn in this class is useless. Hardest midterms ive ever written. Theory is only useful thing which is maybe 1 question out of 35 on the exams. Almost 300 word paragraphs per question
